On the occasion of independence day.

In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Compassionate,

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

May God grant you good health. Welcome everybody, and many happy returns to you and the homeland.

Our meeting on this blessed occasion, Independence Day, is dear to our hearts and is an expression of our pride in the historic achievements of our fathers and grandfathers, for which they offered the greatest sacrifices; those men who marched with the founding father, the martyr King Abdullah Bin Al Hussein, King Talal and the builder, King Hussein. We owe our forebears eternal remembrance and to build on what they built, to continue our dedicated work, and to preserve the independence of this homeland and enhance it, comprehensively.

Independence is a progression of national achievement that enhances sovereignty, free will and independent national decision-making. To preserve independence, we must entrench economic independence through self-reliance.

All of us know the gravity of the challenges and conditions surrounding this homeland that directly affect our economic situation. I also know the reality of the lives of the sons and daughters of this dear homeland, in every district, from Shobak to Mafraq, from Mraighah to Azraq, from Hittin Camp to Qwairah and Jerash and beyond. I have visited the countryside, the Badia and the refugee camps and have learned first-hand the needs of their people, the way they live and their standard of living. This is my major concern and continuous duty. However, I want you, brothers, to know that in our march there are many achievements and bright spots.

For that reason, we march confidently on the right path, and I am sure of our economy's capability, and of our capabilities, as Jordanians, to face challenges, more than at any other time. Be sure, brothers, that we work diligently to realise your ambitions and ensure a better future for the coming generations. Many achievements have been realised in past years of which we could be proud. These achievements are an indicator that our march is right, and that our macroeconomic performance is moving forward for the better. There is an increase in real growth rates, in the ability to create new job opportunities and to increase the productivity of the Jordanian individual. These are all facts of which we are proud, and we are proud of you, because you are the ones who made them happen, and turned them into a tangible reality, with your will and resolve. We do not heed the voices of those who doubt our economic progress. The noble Jordanians will be, as they have always been, a model in terms of their capacity to realise great achievements, without attention to sceptics and out bidders.

On this occasion, I call on everyone to embrace optimism and hope. To be sure that our march moves forward, we will stick together to reap the fruits of what we plant today, God willing. My optimism, hope and confidence in the future stems from my trust in Jordanian youth, from the hope and optimism that radiate from their faces and from my belief in their will and their capability to meet challenges and make the future that we want for our homeland and the coming generations.

Our ambitions to elevate Jordan, now and forever, will remain relentless, with all the resolve and persistence we have. Just a few weeks ago, we were able, praise be to God, to deal with a sizable side of our foreign debt that burdened our national economy. We also launched our grand national project, Decent Housing for Decent Living, which will provide suitable housing for thousands of Jordanian families with limited income. In parallel, we will continue our work to improve the level of basic services, such as quality education and comprehensive health insurance, for Jordanian citizens.

I was keen, from the moment I was honoured to assume responsibility, to work within and outside the homeland, to realise the ambitions of our people, improve their economic conditions and face all the political and economic challenges with diligence, achievement and resolve. Jordan today, in spite of the scarcity of its natural resources, is at the forefront of the region's states in several areas, primary among them are education, economic growth rates and the qualifications of the Jordanian youth who have always proved their excellence nationally and abroad. These achievements could not have been realised without the blessings of security and stability that Jordan enjoys, and that are a product of the efforts of our armed forces and security institutions. On this occasion, I send a sincere Hashemite greeting, full of hope and trust, to all the chivalrous men and women who defend the borders of the homeland, its security and stability.

Political development, guaranteeing basic freedoms for citizens and civil society institutions and enhancing their participation in decision making, are all rights guaranteed by the Constitution; they are major requirements for realising sustainable comprehensive development; this cannot be realised except in an environment governed by the values of freedom, pluralism, tolerance, respect for others' opinions, the rule of law and equal opportunities. Within this framework, I have directed the government to cooperate with Parliament to pass a legislation package related to political development, especially that legislation related to the protection of children and women's rights, the facilitation of public gatherings and the enhancement of the role and independence of charitable organisations and other civil society institutions.

As for the political situation and conditions surrounding this country, we are dealing, praise be to God, with this situation and the latest developments with utmost wisdom and awareness, for the sake of preserving our country's security and stability, and protecting its march and achievements and its balanced relations with neighbouring countries and friends.

As for the Palestinian issue, it is our duty and our firm historic stance to support our Palestinian brothers. We will never hesitate to play any role and will not spare any effort and will use all our good relations with influential states and international circles to empower our Palestinian brothers to attain their rights, and establish their independent state on Palestinian land. We are committed to this role, and committed to the option of just peace on the basis of international resolutions and within the unanimous Arab consensus on a peaceful settlement. We, the Hashemites, have dedicated ourselves to the service of our Arab and Islamic nation and its causes, since the dawn of Islam. We will never abandon our pan-nationalist duty to defend all just Arab causes.

Finally, I would like to extend a greeting of pride and trust to every citizen, man and woman, on the soil of this dear homeland, and reaffirm our determination and resolve to keep Jordan strong, powerful and invincible, always. We will always be, with God's help, firm in all that is right, performing our duty for our loyal people, protecting our homeland and defending its achievements with the vigour and resolve of the noble Jordanians. Many happy returns to you and to the homeland.

Peace, God's mercy and blessings be upon you.

Jordanians celebrate 77th Independence Day

Today marks the 77th anniversary of Jordan's independence.

Jordan Independence Day is celebrated on May 25th each year to commemorate the country's independence from the British mandate in 1946.

Jordan’s independence took place during the reign of the founding King Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein (the Emir at the time), who established the Jordanian state on April 11, 1921, under the name "Emirate of Transjordan.”

During his reign, Jordan’s independence was declared and recognized as an independent state named "The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan."

Independence Day is celebrated with various festivities and events across the country.

Wednesday, the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) lit up the Abdoun Bridge with the colors of the Jordanian flag, on the occasion of Independence Day.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY JORDAN

The Diplomatic Informer Magazine SA wishes to congratulate Jordan on the occasion of the National Day and wishes the Government and the people of Jordan Peace, Unity and Prosperity.

The independence of Jordan came as a result of the London Treaty signed by Emir Abdullah and the British Government. The treaty was signed on 22 May 1946 and was ratified by the Jordanian parliament later on.

Following World War I, the Hashemite Army of the Great Arab Revolt, took over and secured present-day Jordan. The revolt was launched by the Hashemites and led by Sharif Hussein of Mecca against the Ottoman Empire. The revolt was supported by the Allies of World War I including Britain and France.

Emir Abdullāh and the British negotiation about independence, the treaty was signed on March 22, 1946, it took two years for Jordan to be fully independent, in March 1948, Jordan signed it Britain another treaty in which all restrictions on sovereignty were removed for Jordan to be fully independent.

Jordan became a full member of the United Nations and the Arab League in December 1955. Following independence, Jordan established its parliament in 1952 consisting of two houses, the senate and the house of representatives.

On 76th independence day, pwbntytd7fq.

In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

Prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Mohammad,

My fellow Jordanians,

Peace, God’s mercy, and blessings be upon you.

This is Jordan on its seventy-sixth Independence Day, and I am pleased to wish all Jordanians a happy Independence Day, as they celebrate this occasion for the first time in our dear nation’s second centennial.

Jordan’s legacy of struggle and devotion is the journey of all Jordanians—soldiers, workers, farmers, capable in all fields, and builders of pioneering national institutions.

We proudly celebrate Jordan’s Independence. Jordan, the country that has withstood challenges, staying true to the legacy of the ancestors, and remaining steadfast in defence of its land and people, while safeguarding human dignity, freedom, and rights. Jordan continues to stand by the Arab nation and its causes, foremost of which is the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on their national soil. Jordan, a safe haven to all those seeking refuge, continues to uphold the responsibility stemming from the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Over a century, Jordan has not deviated from its principles, while keeping abreast of developments and advancing forward in fulfilling its people’s aspirations for modernisation and change. Jordan is confident, stable, and secure, with the unity of its people and its formidable army and security agencies, as they safeguard the homeland, the people, and national achievements.

In a world witnessing unprecedented political and economic crises, Jordan has strived for decades to contain any repercussions on its national security, capitalising on its international reputation and standing, as well as its keenness on bolstering ties with its Arab brethren to build a system that fulfils the requirements of economic security as a basis for the stability and prosperity of communities.

Brothers and sisters,

We have opened a new chapter of progress and modernisation, with the completion of a system of legislation related to political modernisation. And we will embark on an important transitional phase to build partisan and parliamentary life, paving the way to platform-based campaigning to serve Jordanians under the umbrella of strong legislative and executive institutions, and a state rooted in the rule of law on all, without discrimination or favouritism.

The new Jordan will belong to the young generations. They will chart the path forward, with their strong determination and knowledge, and their openness to the future and global development trends, which wait for no one.

The political modernisation system provides our youth with the opportunity to contribute to building partisan life and political participation, overcoming past fears, in light of legislation that safeguards their rights and paves the way forward to effecting change.

The path to modernisation is not complete without a strong economy that increases growth rates and creates job opportunities. Therefore, in the coming days, we will be launching an integrated economic vision for the years ahead, which will be a comprehensive point of reference.

And before the end of the month, the government will work to finalise a programme to develop the public sector, aimed primarily at enhancing the level of services offered to citizens, streamlining bureaucratic procedures, bolstering workforce efficiency, and advancing the e-government programme.

Moving forward simultaneously on the three tracks of modernisation and reform is a prerequisite to achieving the desired goals. Economic progress is not possible without prudent and efficient administration. And the political and democratic modernisation track cannot achieve its targets without improving citizens’ living standards, ending poverty and unemployment, and providing job opportunities for thousands of youth.

As we strive to launch a new phase for our national economy, we look forward to ending the activation of the Defence Law in the upcoming months, in order to turn the page on the COVID pandemic—which has left tremendous global repercussions in its wake—and start a new chapter of achievements and progress.

My dear brothers and sisters,

Jordanians deserve the very best—always. And it is our duty, as officials and institutions, to exert our utmost efforts to translate this agenda of modernisation into a tangible reality with a direct impact on citizens’ quality and standards of living.

Once again, I congratulate all the sons and daughters of our nation throughout the country on this dear occasion, stressing pride in each and every one of them, and confidence in their determination and ability to accomplish the greatest achievements, especially the servicemen and women of our armed forced and security agencies, who safeguard the homeland and its progress.

Peace, God's mercy and blessings be upon you.
