(ii) The number on first card is

(iii) What is the number on the 19 th card?

(iv) What is the number on the 23 rd card?

(v) The sum of numbers on the first 15 cards is

A sequence is an ordered list of numbers. A sequence of numbers such that the difference between the consecutive terms is constant is said to be an arithmetic progression (A.P.). On the basis of above information, answer the following questions. (i) Which of the following sequence is an A.P.?

(ii) If x, y and z are in A.P., then

(iii) If a 1  a 2 , a 3  ..... , a n are in A.P., then which of the following is true?

+ k, a + k, a + k, , a + k are in A.P., where k is a constant.
k - a , k - a , , k - a are in A.P., where k is a constant.
, ka , ka ..... , ka are in A.P., where k is a constant.

(iv) If the n th term (n > 1) of an A.P. is smaller than the first term, then nature of its common difference (d) is

(v) Which of the following is incorrect about A.P.?

case study from ap class 10

(ii) What is the first term?

(iii) Which term of the A.P. is -160?

(iv) Which of the following is not a term of the given A.P.?

(v) What is the 75 th term of the A.P.?

*****************************************

Cbse 10th standard maths subject arithmetic progressions case study questions with solution 2021 answer keys.

Geeta's A.P. is -5, -2, 1,4, ... Here, first term (a 1 ) = -5 and common difference (d 1 ) = -2 + 5 = 3 Similarly, Madhuri's A.P. is 187, 184, 181, ... Here first term (a 2 ) = 187 and common difference (d 2 ) = 184 - 187 = -3 (i) (b): t 34 = a 2 + 33d 2 = 187 + 33(-3) = 88 (ii) (d): Required sum = 3 + (-3) = 0 (iii) (a): t 19  = a 1  + 18d 1  = (-5) + 18(3) = 49 (iv) (a) :  \(S_{10}=\frac{n}{2}\left[2 a_{1}+(n-1) d_{1}\right]=\frac{10}{2}[2(-5)+9(3)]=85\) (v) (b): Let n th terms of the two A.P:s be equal. \(\therefore\) -5 + (n - 1)3 = 187 + (n - 1)(-3) \(\Rightarrow\) 6(n - 1) = 192 \(\Rightarrow\) n = 33

Here the savings form an A.P. i.e., Rs 2.75, Rs 3, Rs 3.25, ... So, a = 2.75, d = 3 - 2.75 = 0.25 (i) (b): Amount saved by Anuj on 14 th day = t 14 = a + 13d = 2.75 + 13(0.25) = ₹ 6 (ii) (d): Total amount saved by Anuj in 8 days \(=S_{8}=\frac{8}{2}[2(2.75)+7(0.25)]=₹ 29\) (iii) (a): Amount saved by Anuj on 30 th day = t 30 = a + 29d = 2.75 + 29(0.25) = ₹ 10 (iv) (b): Number of days in June = 30 \(\therefore S_{30}=\frac{30}{2}[2(2.75)+29(0.25)]=₹ 191.25\) (v) (d): Let on nth day, he saves 10 times as he saves on 1 st day. t n = 10(2.75) \(\Rightarrow\) a + (n - 1)d = 27.5 \(\Rightarrow\) n = 100.

Let the numbers on the cards be a, a + d, a + Zd, ... According to question, We have (a + 5d) + (a + 13d) = -76 \(\Rightarrow\) 2a+18d = -76 \(\Rightarrow\) a + 9d= -38 ... (1) And (a + 7d) + (a + 15d) = -96 \(\Rightarrow\) 2a + 22d = -96 \(\Rightarrow\) a + 11d = -48 ...(2) From (1) and (2), we get 2d= -10 \(\Rightarrow\) d= -5 From (1), a + 9(-5) = -38 \(\Rightarrow\) a = 7 (i) (b): The difference between the numbers on any two consecutive cards = common difference of the A.P.=-5 (ii) (d): Number on first card = a = 7 (iii) (b): Number on 19th card = a + 18d = 7 + 18(-5) = -83 (iv) (a): Number on 23rd card = a + 22d = 7 + 22( -5) = -103 (v) (d):  \(S_{15}=\frac{15}{2}[2(7)+14(-5)]=-420\)

(i) (c) (ii) (c) (iii) (d) (iv) (b) (v) (c)

We have, 3 rd term = 4 and 9 th term = -8 i.e., a + 2d = 4 ........(i) and a + 8d = -8 .........(ii) Solving (1) and (2), we get d = -2, a = 8 (i) (c) (ii) (d) (iii) (b): Let t n = -160 \(\Rightarrow\) a + (n - 1) d = -160 \(\Rightarrow\) 8 + (n - 1)(-2) = -160 \(\Rightarrow\) (n - 1)(-2) = -168 \(\Rightarrow\) n - 1 = 84 \(\Rightarrow\) n = 85 So, t 85  = -160 (iv) (a) (v) (a): t 75 = a + 74d = 8 + 74( -2) = -140

CBSE Class 10 Maths Case Study

CBSE Board has introduced the case study questions for the ongoing academic session 2021-22. The board will ask the paper on the basis of a different exam pattern which has been introduced this year where 50% syllabus is occupied for MCQ for Term 1 exam. Selfstudys has provided below the chapter-wise questions for CBSE Class 10 Maths. Students must solve these case study based problems as soon as they are done with their syllabus.

These case studies are in the form of Multiple Choice Questions where students need to answer them as asked in the exam. The MCQs are not that difficult but having a deep and thorough understanding of NCERT Maths textbooks are required to answer these. Furthermore, we have provided the PDF File of CBSE Class 10 maths case study 2021-2022.

Class 10 Maths (Formula, Case Based, MCQ, Assertion Reason Question with Solutions)

In order to score good marks in the term 1 exam students must be aware of the Important formulas, Case Based Questions, MCQ and Assertion Reasons with solutions. Solving these types of questions is important because the board will ask them in the Term 1 exam as per the changed exam pattern of CBSE Class 10th.

Important formulas should be necessarily learned by the students because the case studies are solved with the help of important formulas. Apart from that there are assertion reason based questions that are important too.

Assertion Reasoning is a kind of question in which one statement (Assertion) is given and its reason is given (Explanation of statement). Students need to decide whether both the statement and reason are correct or not. If both are correct then they have to decide whether the given reason supports the statement or not. In such ways, assertion reasoning questions are being solved. However, for doing so and getting rid of confusions while solving. Students are advised to practice these as much as possible.

For doing so we have given the PDF that has a bunch of MCQs questions based on case based, assertion, important formulas, etc. All the Multiple Choice problems are given with detailed explanations.

CBSE Class 10th Case study Questions

Recently CBSE Board has the exam pattern and included case study questions to make the final paper a little easier. However, Many students are nervous after hearing about the case based questions. They should not be nervous because case study are easy and given in the board papers to ease the Class 10th board exam papers. However to answer them a thorough understanding of the basic concepts are important. For which students can refer to the NCERT textbook.

Basically, case study are the types of questions which are developed from the given data. In these types of problems, a paragraph or passage is given followed by the 5 questions that are given to answer . These types of problems are generally easy to answer because the data are given in the passage and students have to just analyse and find those data to answer the questions.

CBSE Class 10th Assertion Reasoning Questions

These types of questions are solved by reading the statement, and given reason. Sometimes these types of problems can make students confused. To understand the assertion and reason, students need to know that there will be one statement that is known as assertion and another one will be the reason, which is supposed to be the reason for the given statement. However, it is students duty to determine whether the statement and reason are correct or not. If both are correct then it becomes important to check, does reason support the statement?

Moreover, to solve the problem they need to look at the given options and then answer them.

CBSE Class 10 Maths Case Based MCQ

CBSE Class 10 Maths Case Based MCQ are either Multiple Choice Questions or assertion reasons. To solve such types of problems it is ideal to use elimination methods. Doing so will save time and answering the questions will be much easier. Students preparing for the board exams should definitely solve these types of problems on a daily basis.

Also, the CBSE Class 10 Maths MCQ Based Questions are provided to us to download in PDF file format. All are developed as per the latest syllabus of CBSE Class Xth.

Class 10th Mathematics Multiple Choice Questions

Class 10 Mathematics Multiple Choice Questions for all the chapters helps students to quickly revise their learnings, and complete their syllabus multiple times. MCQs are in the form of objective types of questions whose 4 different options are given and one of them is a true answer to that problem. Such types of problems also aid in self assessment.

Case Study Based Questions of class 10th Maths are in the form of passage. In these types of questions the paragraphs are given and students need to find out the given data from the paragraph to answer the questions. The problems are generally in Multiple Choice Questions.

The Best Class 10 Maths Case Study Questions are available on Selfstudys.com. Click here to download for free.

To solve Class 10 Maths Case Studies Questions you need to read the passage and questions very carefully. Once you are done with reading you can begin to solve the questions one by one. While solving the problems you have to look at the data and clues mentioned in the passage.

In Class 10 Mathematics the assertion and reasoning questions are a kind of Multiple Choice Questions where a statement is given and a reason is given for that individual statement. Now, to answer the questions you need to verify the statement (assertion) and reason too. If both are true then the last step is to see whether the given reason support=rts the statement or not.

Arithmetic Progression Class 10 Notes

Cbse class 10 maths arithmetic progression notes:- download pdf here.

Get the complete notes on arithmetic progressions in this article. These notes are useful for the students who are preparing for the CBSE board exams 2023-24. In this article, we will discuss the introduction to Arithmetic Progression (AP), general terms, and various formulas in AP, such as the sum of n terms of an AP, nth term of an AP and so on in detail.

Introduction to AP

Sequences, series and progressions.

  • A sequence is a finite or infinite list of numbers following a specific pattern. For example, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,… is the sequence, an infinite sequence of natural numbers.
  • A series is the sum of the elements in the corresponding sequence. For example, 1+2+3+4+5….is the series of natural numbers. Each number in a sequence or a series is called a term.
  • A progression is a sequence in which the general term can be can be expressed using a mathematical formula.

For any finite sequence, it is generally represented as a 1 , a 2 , a 3 , ……a n , where 1, 2, 3, …, n represents the position of the term. As the series is represented as the sum of sequences, it is represented as a 1 + a 2 + a 3 + …. + a n .

For any infinite sequence, it is generally represented as a 1 , a 2 , a 3 , a 4 , … and the infinite series is represented as a 1 + a 2 + a 3 + ….

Arithmetic Progression

An arithmetic progression (AP) is a progression in which the difference between two consecutive terms is constant.

In arithmetic progression, the first term is represented by the letter “a”, the last term is represented by “l”, the common difference between two terms is represented by “d”, and the number of terms is represented by the letter “n”.

Thus, the standard form of the arithmetic progression is given by the formula,

a, a + d, a + 2d, a + 3d, a + 4d, ….

Now, consider the infinite arithmetic progression 2, 5, 8, 11, 14….

Here, first term, a = 2

Common difference = 3

Here, the common difference is calculated as follows:

Second term – first term = 5 – 2 = 3

Third term – second term = 8 – 5 = 3

Fourth term – third term = 11 – 8 = 3

Fifth term – fourth term = 14 – 11 = 3

Since the difference between two consecutive terms is constant (i.e., 3), the given progression is an arithmetic progression.

To know more about AP, visit here .

Common Difference

The difference between two consecutive terms in an AP ( which is constant ) is the “ common difference “ (d)  of an A.P. In the progression: 2, 5, 8, 11, 14  …the common difference is 3. As it is the difference between any two consecutive terms, for any A.P, if the common difference is:

  •    Positive , the AP is increasing .
  •    Zero , the AP is constant .
  •   Negative , the A.P is decreasing.

The formula to find the common difference between the two terms is given as:

Common difference, d = (a n – a n-1 )

a n represents the nth term of a sequence

a n-1 represents the previous term. i.e., (n-1) th term of a sequence.

Finite and Infinite AP

  • A finite AP is an A.P in which the number of terms is finite. For example the A.P:  2, 5, 8……32, 35, 38
  • An infinite A.P is an A.P in which the number of terms is infinite . For example:  2, 5, 8, 11…..
A finite A.P will have the last term, whereas an infinite A.P won’t.

To know more about Finite and Infinite AP, visit here .

General Term of AP

In Arithmetic progression, a n is called the general term, where n represents the position of the term in the given sequence.

The nth Term of an AP

The nth term of an A.P is given by T n =  a + ( n − 1 ) d , where a is the first term,  d is a common difference and n  is the number of terms.

Finding nth Term:

Determine the tenth term of the arithmetic progression 2, 7, 12, ….

Given Arithmetic sequence: 2, 7, 12, …

Common difference, d = 5

I.e., 7 – 2 = 5 and 12 – 7 = 5.

And now, we have to find the 10th term of AP.

Hence, n = 10

Thus, the formula to find the nth term of AP is a n = a + (n-1)d

Now, substituting the values in the formula, we get

a 10 = 2 + (10 – 1)5

a 10 = 2 + 9(5)

a 10 = 2 + 45

Therefore, 10 th term of the given arithmetic sequence 2, 7, 12, … is 47.

The General Form of an AP

The general form of an A.P is: ( a, a+d,a+2d,a+3d……)  where a is the first term and d is a common difference. Here, d=0, OR d>0, OR d<0

The Sum of Terms in an AP

The formula for the sum to n terms of an ap.

The sum to n terms of an A.P is given by:

S n =  n/2( 2 a + ( n − 1 ) d )

Where a is the first term, d is the common difference and n is the number of terms.

The sum of n terms of an A.P is also given by

S n =  n/2 ( a + l )

Where a is the first term, l is the last term of the A.P. and n is the number of terms.

Finding the Sum of n Terms of an AP:

Determine the sum of the first 22 terms of the Arithmetic Progression 8, 3, -2, ….

Here, the given arithmetic progression is 8, 3, -2, …

So, the first term, a = 8

Common difference, d = -5

3 – 8 = -5

-2 – 3 = -5

And, n = 22.

Therefore, the sum of the first 22 terms of the given AP is -979.

Arithmetic Mean (A.M)

The Arithmetic Mean is the simple average of a given set of numbers. The arithmetic mean of a set of numbers is given by:

A . M =  Sum of terms/Number of terms

The arithmetic mean is defined for any set of numbers. The numbers need not necessarily be in an A.P.

For example, of x, y and z are in Arithmetic progression, then y = (x + z)/2, and we can say that y is the arithmetic mean of x and z.

Basic Adding Patterns in an AP

The sum of two terms that are equidistant from either end of an AP is constant. For example:  in an A.P: 2,5,8,11,14,17… T 1 + T 6 = 2 + 17 = 19 T 2 + T 5 = 5 + 14 = 19 and so on…. Algebraically, this can be represented as

T r + T ( n − r ) + 1 = c o n s t a n t

The Sum of First n Natural Numbers

The sum of first n natural numbers is given by:

S n = n(n+1)/2

This formula is derived by treating the sequence of natural numbers as an A.P where the first term (a) = 1 and the common difference (d) = 1.

Finding the Sum of First n Natural Numbers:

For example, if we want to find the sum of the first 10 natural numbers, we can find it as follows:

Here, n = 10.

Now, substitute the value in the formula,

S n =n(n+1)/2

S 10 = [10 (10+1)]/2

S 10 = [10(11)]/2

S 10 = 110/2

All the formulas related to Arithmetic Progression class 10 are tabulated below:

First term a
Common difference d
General form of AP a, a + d, a + 2d, a + 3d,….
nth term a = a + (n – 1)d
Sum of first n terms S = (n/2) [2a + (n – 1)d]
Sum of all terms of AP S = (n/2)(a + l)
n = Number of terms
l = Last term

Practice Questions

  • Find the sum: 34 + 32 + 30 + . . . + 10
  • How many terms of the AP: 9, 17, 25, . . . must be taken to give a sum of 636?
  • Find the sum of the odd numbers between 0 and 50.
  • In a school, students thought of planting trees in and around the school to reduce air pollution. It was decided that the number of trees that each section of each class will plant will be the same as the class in which they are studying, e.g., a section of Class I will plant 1 tree, a section of Class II will plant 2 trees and so on till Class XII. There are three sections of each class. How many trees will be planted by the students?
