How to Write a Great Esthetician Bio: Tips & Examples

' src=

Aesthetician, esthetician; Whether you focus on specialty facial treatment, a specialized cosmetic procedure, or unique whole-body treatment — one thing is for sure. No matter how you spell it, you need a stellar bio!

A professional bio is extremely important for your career as an esthetician, which is why we’re here to help you craft a great one.

Follow our seven steps and implement some of our most useful tips, and you’ll be on your way to writing that perfect bio. To give you some inspiration before you dive into your writing task, we’ll also include some esthetician bio examples to get those creative juices flowing.

Why is an Esthetician Bio Important?

Before we dive into how to write an esthetician bio , let’s talk about why it’s so important. A good bio not only tells a reader who you are and what you do, but it pulls them in, gets them engaged, and entices potential clients to book your services.

You can also leverage your bio in your esthetician marketing ideas . Variations of your esthetician bio can be used across different outlets, from your social media accounts and website to printed flyers, guest blog posts, and email marketing campaigns.

Essentially, your esthetician bio is a short story about your professional life. Think of it as your condensed esthetician resume, but rather than listing your skills, work experience, and accomplishments, it combines it into an easily digestible, fun-to-read snippet that highlights your resume objective.

So, why do you focus so heavily on crafting that perfect esthetician bio?

Whether you offer massage services or microdermabrasion, your bio is your clients’ first impression. It’s what they will read before they meet you in person or book your services — so it’s crucial to make it strong, clear, and professional.

How to Write a Great Esthetician Bio

1. be clear about who you are.

It’s no surprise that there’s some healthy competition in the beauty industry. Whether you’re a skin treatment specialist, facialist, a massage therapist, or a waxing specialist, when you’re figuring out how to write an esthetician bio , it’s important to be clear about who you are. Use your bio opening to include some quick, effective facts that will help you stand out from the crowd.

2. Focus on Your Specialty

If you’re won dering how to get clients as an esthetician , the key is to promote what you’re good at! Every licensed esthetician has a specialty, something that makes your particular skill set shine. You might focus on facial massage services, brow feathering , hair removal, lash tinting , laser hair removal or a combination of different ones. You may even have your own holistic approach to a self-created skin care program. N arrowing down your specialty (or specialties) and including those in your bio will make your potential client more eager to click “book”.

3. Share Your Passion

Some of the best, most engaging esthetician bio examples share something in common. They convey the esthetician’s passion. Your passion may come from childhood when you watched your mother do braids on your siblings. Or, it may have come later in life, when poor skin condition troubled you and your friends. Sharing your passion and a bit of your backstory helps your reader connect.

4. List Credentials and Education

Once you’ve introduced yourself and your specialty — and appealed to the emotions with a bit of passion-sharing — it’s time to list out those credentials. Before a client books your services, they want to know if you’re qualified to give them that chemical peel, laser treatment, or eyelash perm . As you figure out the best way for how to write an esthetician bio , list out all your credentials and education.

Whether you attended the Aveda Institute, snagged an esthetician certificate from your local community college, or graduated medical school as a dermatologist, credentials, and education go a long way in building credibility.

5. Include Achievements

look through some other esthetician resume and bio samples for ideas of things to include in yours. Whether you’re a master esthetician or an advanced skin care professional, your accolades only matter if your clients know about them, don’t be afraid to offer a little humble brag here or there. Let the strangers reading your bio in on the good work you’ve done in your field and how it’s been recognized. After all, you put in the hard work. Now it’s time to let those achievements and accolades shine.

6. Talk About Your Goals

Where you’ve been is important, but where you’re going is, too. What are your goals for the future as a skin care specialist? Maybe you play to open your own med spa or massage therapy business. Talking about the road ahead will get your clients excited to be part of your journey. If you’re experiencing writer’s block, refer to your salon’s mission statement for some ideas.

7. What Makes You Unique

Similar to your specialty, it’s also important to include what makes you unique in your bio. With this sentence or two, don’t be afraid to be a little vulnerable. Honesty and openness are important when someone is considering booking you for esthetics and skin treatment.

You might focus on holistic, whole-body healing from the inside out, or pride yourself on building long-term friendships with your customers. Clients will come to you with both life and skin concerns, so if you’re open  and approachable in your bio, this helps them feel comfortable before they even click that book button.

Tips for a Top-Notch Esthetician Bio

Still need some further encouragement on how to write an esthetician bio that truly sparkles? Turn to these tips for a top-notch piece of written copy.

  • Be positive: A negative bio can be off-putting to a reader. Try to keep things positive and lighthearted yet still professional.
  • Personal Tidbit: We know a lot of you focus on spa services and skincare all day, every day. But try to add a personal tidbit. Do you love baking or hiking, spending time with your kids, or diving into your city’s coffee culture? Perfect. Adding something other than cosmetology to your bio can make it more approachable.
  • Length: Bio lengths will vary based on whether you’re using them for Instagram, your StyleSeat profile, or at the end of a guest blog. A good rule of thumb is to have a couple of different esthetician bio examples ready and waiting to go, then you can implement them where you see fit.
  • Spell and grammar check : Nothing can affect that perfectly constructed bio quite like a slew of misspelled words or a run-on sentence. To ensure professionalism and accuracy, make sure to toss that bio into a handy dandy spell check program. While you’re at it, running it through a grammar checker would not be a bad idea either.
  • Share your work : Need a second opinion or some h ands-on assistance with how to write an esthetician bio ? Reach out to your friends, family members, and fellow beauty industry pals if you need a little help with your bio. Experienced skin care professionals who has been around for a while can also be a good support system to turn to.

Key Points:

  • Be passionate, positive and personal
  • Be concise and use proofreading softwares or friends and family to help read and evaluate
  • Highlight the important things: your specialties, your education and any accolades.

Examples of Effective Esthetician Bios

Now that we’ve covered the steps of how to write your bio along with some additional tips for estheticians , it’s time to dive into the fun part. Here are some of our favorite esthetician bio examples , along with precisely what we like about them.

  • Infinique : Tonya Conrad covers it all with her bio listed on Infinique’s website. From her background in makeup artistry to her passion for skincare, Tonya’s knowledge and expertise are effectively conveyed throughout her lengthy and thorough bio. Additionally, she lists o ut many of her certificates, which further adds to her credibility as an esthetician goddess.
  • The Skin and Body Spa : The Skin & Beauty Spa does a wonderful job of covering multiple bios for their whole team all within one page . Each bio is a little bit different, yet they showcase what makes each team member unique. Meredith A., for example, is an expert in waxing and makeup artistry, while Brenda F. suffers from rosacea herself and is passionate about serving clients who suffer from this particular skin disorder.
  • Glow Med Spa : What we like about Glow Med Spa’s bio page , is that each of their esthetician bio examples is comprehensive. After a quick read-through of each stylist and skincare expert, we know what they do for their clients’ skin and how they help them to achieve that glow . Each bio is written in the form of a story that covers background, credentials, and esthetician plans for the future, which leads to a well-rounded, engaging read.

How to Write the Perfect Esthetician Instagram Bio

biography esthetician bio samples

Instagram, boasting a staggering 2 billion monthly active users, has carved its place as an invaluable tool for businesses. When we consider that a whopping 62.3% of these users employ the platform for brand exploration, and 90% follow a business on Instagram, it becomes glaringly evident that it's a field we cannot ignore. For you, as an esthetician, this platform provides a golden opportunity to amplify your brand, reel in potential clients, and display your unique expertise. But to tap into Instagram's full power, it takes more than just your bio.

In this piece, we'll dig deep into crafting a compelling esthetician Instagram profile and bio. We'll unravel why your bio is an absolute game-changer, walk you through crucial tips for each section, and throw in some specially curated examples for a dash of inspiration. So, let's get right to it.

Profile picture

The first impression is everything, and on Instagram, your profile picture is your opening act. As an esthetician, the right choice of profile picture can set the stage by conveying both professionalism and approachability. Go for top-notch quality, welcoming picture of yourself - think along the lines of a well-lit selfie or a professionally taken headshot. Remember, you're the one your clients are entrusting with their skincare regimen, and showing your face right at the onset fosters that much-needed trust and credibility.

Steer clear of group photos or anything that could divert attention from your personal brand. And don't forget - your profile picture shrinks down to a tiny thumbnail, so it's crucial to pick an image that stays crisp and identifiable, even in miniature. By opting for a professional and appealing profile picture, you're laying the groundwork for your overall Instagram presence and setting yourself up for that all-important positive first impression.

biography esthetician bio samples

The 'name' section of your Instagram bio is your secret weapon for discovery. Its strategic optimization for SEO and Instagram's search function can propel your visibility on the platform significantly.

When deciding on your Instagram name, including your real name is key. It adds a human touch and personalizes your brand from the outset. It's equally important to clearly label yourself as an esthetician, promptly establishing your professional identity. Adding keywords such as "Esthetician" or "Skincare Specialist" not only helps potential clients understand your line of work instantly but also boosts your chances of popping up in search results when users are on the hunt for local estheticians.

In addition to this, including your serving location can act as a client magnet, drawing in those specifically looking for estheticians in their area. For instance, using a name like "Tampa Esthetician" or "New York City Skincare Specialist" could prove highly effective.

By cleverly optimizing your name with the right keywords and location details, you elevate your chances of being found by potential clients on the hunt for a skincare specialist like yourself.

Your bio is a golden opportunity to let your expertise sparkle and attract potential clients. Given the concise limit of 150 characters, mastering the art of drafting a brief, yet powerful bio is essential. This is your stage to highlight your unique selling proposition (USP) and captivate any Instagram visitors.

This space is perfect for emphasizing your strengths and underlining how you help clients achieve their skincare dreams. If you have a niche or a unique service that distinguishes you, it's time to let it shine. For instance, you could hint at your expertise in anti-aging treatments, acne solutions, or personalized skincare protocols.

If you haven't featured your name earlier, ensure to include it in your bio - it aids users in forming a personal bond with your brand. The strategic use of emojis can sprinkle some personality and grab attention, but ensure they don't eat into the space reserved for vital details.

Also, it's worthwhile to consider weaving a call-to-action (CTA) into your bio if you have room. A compelling CTA can steer visitors to perform an action like 'follow for insider tips,' or 'book your appointment now.'

Crafting a compelling bio calls for strategic thought paired with creative flair. Invest time in brainstorming and experimenting with various versions until you hit that sweet spot of engaging content within the character constraints. Remember, your bio serves as a snapshot of your business and should leave visitors with a lingering impression.

biography esthetician bio samples

The right links on your profile serve as vital signposts, directing interested viewers to relevant information and resources. The easier it is for potential clients to delve into your offerings and learn about your services, the better.

While it's surprising to see many profiles without any links, it's a gap that you should avoid. Even if you don't have your own website, it's crucial in today's digital era to maintain an online presence. If a website is not part of your current portfolio, ensure to provide a link to a third-party platform where viewers can readily make bookings or dig up more information about your services.

If you do have a website, this should always be your profile's primary link. It allows visitors to swiftly navigate to a space where they can delve deeper into your services, browse through your portfolio, or schedule an appointment.

With Instagram's latest update, you now have the capacity to add multiple links to your bio. However, tread carefully and avoid bombarding your audience with a multitude of options. If you've got several links to share, services like Linktree can be handy. Linktree lets you build a custom landing page with multiple links, offering viewers an easy-to-navigate gateway to different resources.

Always remember, your goal is to streamline the process for viewers to find the information they need and take the desired action. By offering clear and easy-to-access links, you not only enhance user experience but also up your chances of transforming potential clients into actual appointments.

Display buttons

Instagram's display buttons are a prime feature, offering a superb opportunity to optimize your profile and craft easy pathways for potential clients to engage with you. Acting as convenient shortcuts, these buttons boost engagement and simplify communication, making it a breeze for interested parties to take action.

The Contact button is one such indispensable tool. It provides a space to add your email, business phone number, business address, and WhatsApp business number. By giving this ease of access, you foster trust and make it seamless for interested clients to inquire about your services or request further information.

Then there's the Action button - another valuable asset. Instagram provides options like "Book Now," "Reserve," or a customizable lead form. By integrating this button, you can motivate viewers to take specific actions like booking an appointment directly. This streamlined method simplifies the process and heightens the chances of converting interested viewers into actual clients.

To further ease the connection process for potential clients, remember to switch on the "Display contact info" option within the "Profile Display" settings. This ensures that visitors can access your contact information without any hitches, as any barriers can potentially lose potential clients.

Bypass the common pitfall of neglecting display buttons. They're potent tools for boosting engagement and easing communication. Even if you lean towards a minimalist profile, make sure to include at least the contact or message button, allowing interested individuals to connect with you effortlessly.

Highlight reels

Using highlight reels strategically can serve as a powerful tool, spotlighting critical information front and center. Think of highlight reels as your curated collection of stories featured on your profile, allowing you to emphasize select aspects of your esthetician business.

As an esthetician, highlight reels can supercharge your profile's efficacy in several ways. Think about featuring glowing 5-star reviews from happy clients to build social proof and cement your credibility. Spotlight your policies, like appointment booking methods or cancellation protocols, to set clear expectations for potential clients. Include a price list or service menu to ensure transparency about what you offer. FAQs can preemptively tackle common queries, saving you time responding to individual messages. Finally, consider dedicating a reel to product recommendations, showcasing the skincare or beauty products you endorse and provide.

By leveraging highlight reels, you can ensure visitors find crucial information rapidly. These visually striking and interactive stories offer an engaging medium to present key details about your business and kindle interest in your services.

Remember to keep your highlight reels neatly organized and clearly labeled. Utilize descriptive titles or cover images to guide viewers and simplify their navigation through different reels. Consistent design and branding across your highlight reels will exude a cohesive and professional appearance.

biography esthetician bio samples

To wrap it up, sculpting the perfect Instagram profile is a key step in harnessing the strength of social media for your esthetician business. Given the vast proportion of users following and investigating brands on Instagram, it's clear that this platform offers huge prospects for business expansion.

A blend of a professional profile picture, a concise and captivating bio, strategically selected links, and the smart use of highlight reels and display buttons should be the ingredients of your success recipe.

Remember, your Instagram is a reflection of your brand. By employing the tips and strategies, you can build a compelling and effective Instagram profile that pulls the right audience, boosts engagement, and ultimately leads to more bookings and business growth.

How To Create A Great Instagram Bio: 7 Steps

1. add a searchable keyword on your instagram name field and username.

The first step to optimizing your Instagram bio is to add a searchable keyword on the name field and the username.

Ideally, whenever users type a keyword or a name on the Instagram search field, the app populates results based on your username to determine the most relevant search results.

Search results are matched by text. Using an Instagram username or profile name that’s related to the content of your posts is your best bet for showing up in relevant searches.

For example, if you are an artist, you may want to include your job title along with your full name on the username or the name field. That way, people searching for you or your services on Instagram can find your account easily.

Notice how Asiko , a professional artist, uses the name field to include his occupation for clarity.

That way, when you search for an artist or use their name, you can find their account easily.

article

If you want to change your Instagram username or name, follow these easy steps:

Step 1: Go to your profile on Instagram

Step 2: Tap or click edit profile

Step 3: Enter the right name and username

Step 4: Hit the submit button or click save, depending on the device you are using.

2. Highlight Your Skills & Target Audience

When Instagram users search you and find your profile, the next thing they will do is check out your bio to make sure they are viewing the right account.

Therefore, a good Instagram bio communicates what your business does and even mentions your target audience.

Having a 150 character count limit for your bio can feel a little tight, so this is your chance to explain to your audience why and how they should get in touch or shop from your brand.

Here are key tips to help you highlight your skills and explain to them what you do.

  • Try to keep your expression simple
  • Use a single thread or theme to link your expressions together
  • Choose readily understandable terms / avoid jargon and acronyms
  • Focus on benefits , not features

For example, Ericka , who Is a social media marketer and an Instagram expert, includes a clear description of what her business entails at the beginning of her bio.

She mentions: “I coach brands on how to use IG to attract, connect + convert their followers”.

article

Right after reading this description, her audience gets a glimpse of the types of services offered and what her content is going to look like.

3. Include Relevant Keywords On Your Instagram Bio

While adding keywords on your username and name field makes you discoverable, the Instagram bio is also a great place to add keywords you want to rank for.

Typically, using keywords on your Instagram may not directly help you become more discoverable on the app, but will give your account more focus and connect you with like-minded followers.

When describing your business on the Instagram bio section, include secondary and primary keywords:

Primary keywords are the main words describing your business. For example, for a landscaping expert, “gardener” might be the primary keyword.

Secondary keywords are those that add a bit more detail to the primary keywords and are more related to the searcher's intent. In our example, secondary keyword can be “gardener near me.”

Adding primary and secondary keywords to your Instagram bio enables your audience to feel more connected to your brand.

Here are a few tips to guide you when choosing relevant keywords:

  • Refer to Google Autocomplete : when you type an inquiry into the Google search bar, Google autocompletes the inquiry based on the most popular phrases people used in that context.
  • Look for Synonyms and Semantics : try looking for other ways of describing the keywords you have entered.
  • Google Keyword Planner : The free keyword research tool tells you the average search volume and how competitive the keyword is.
  • Use paid keyword research tools : SEMrush, Moz, and Ahrefs are examples of paid keyword research tools to give you insights into your Instagram bio keywords.

4. Add a Link to Your Instagram Profile

The simplest approach of adding a link to your Instagram is displaying it in your profile.

Unlike links placed on Instagram comments and posts, a link on your Instagram bio will be hyperlinked. That means whenever Instagram users tap on the link, they will go straight to your website.

When you create an Instagram post, include a call to action that tells visitors to check out your profile for the relevant link to your e-commerce store or website.

Alternatively, you can use a service like Linkin. bio , which turns your whole Instagram feed into a clickable landing page and drives traffic to your website.

When you add links to any Instagram posts your Instagram audience will be directed to the right content or products on your website.

For example, Barbara Corcoran , a real estate professional uses linktree.com to add a link to her business unusual podcast.

That way, she can drive traffic to her podcast effectively.

article

5. Add Your Contact Information

Adding contact information on your Instagram bio means Instagram users can contact you directly. It is an excellent means of developing your brand and Instagram business opportunities.

You can add your phone number, email address, or address to the physical location. This way, anyone who wants to know more about your brand can get in touch with you conveniently.

For example, Décor Finity , supplier of household items includes a phone number of their Instagram bio information.

It also helps to raise brand awareness by making sure it is constantly visible within your niche on Instagram.

A great Instagram bio creates a great first impression and reflects what your brand offers in the first instance.

When creating the Instagram bio for travelers , explain who you are and what you offer your audience. You can do this easily by including keywords on the username and name field.

How to Create a Solid Esthetician Profile Bio

Esthetician, aesthetician; Whatever you choose to call it, whether it’s a specific facial treatment, a specialty cosmetic treatment, or a unique whole-body therapy, you’ll need an excellent bio. You need a fantastic online presence and bio that catches peoples interest!

A professional bio is critical for your career as an esthetician, which is why we’re here to assist you with writing one.

Follow our seven steps and utilize some of our most valuable hints, and you’ll be well on your way to creating the ideal bio. Below we will also be listing out number one Master Aesthetician program!

Why Is It Necessary to have a killer bio?

Let’s begin by discussing why it is so crucial to create an esthetician bio. A compelling bio not only introduces you and what you do, but it also draws in readers, engages them, and encourages potential clients to hire your services.

You may also use your bio in the marketing of your esthetician practice. Your esthetician bio may be utilized across a variety of platforms, including your social media accounts and website, as well as printed fliers, guest blog postings, and email marketing campaigns. This is taught in some Master Esthetician programs near you!

Essentially, your esthetician bio is a brief biography about your career. Consider it as a condensed aesthetician resume, but instead of listing your skills, work experience, and triumphs, it includes them into an easy-to-understand, enjoyable-to-read highlight of your cv objective.

Why do you devote so much effort to creating the ideal esthetician bio?

Your bio is your clients’ first impression of you, whether you provide massage treatments or microdermabrasion. It’s what they’ll read before meeting you in person or hiring your services, so make it powerful, clear, and professional.

How to Produce the Best Esthetician Bio

Make Who You Are Clear

It comes as no surprise that the beauty industry is rife with healthy rivalry. Whether you’re a skin treatment expert, a facialist, a massage therapist, or a waxer, when it comes to writing an esthetician bio, it’s essential to be clear about your identity. Use your bio opening to include some brief, effective information that will set you apart from the competition. A Master esthetician course near you may teach you about writing your bio as well!

Focus on Your Area of Expertise

The secret to finding customers as an esthetician is to demonstrate what you’re excellent at! Every licensed aesthetician has a specialty that sets them apart from the competition. Facial massage services, brow feathering, hair removal, lash tinting, laser hair removal, or a combination of different procedures are all options. You could even have your own unique holistic approach to a self-developed skin care regimen. Including those in your bio will pique the interest of potential clients and make them more eager to click “book” as you narrow down your specialty (or specialties).

Share Your Passion

Some of the most creative esthetician bio samples have something in common. They exude the esthetician’s passion and focus. When you were a kid, perhaps when your mother did braids on your brothers and sisters, you discovered an interest in doing the same. It may also have arrived later in life, when your skin problem had plagued you and your friends. Your reader will connect with you more if you explain a little of your background and why you’re passionate about what you’re talking about.

List Credentials and Education

It’s time to list out those credentials once you’ve introduced yourself and your specialty, and appealed to the emotions with a little passion-sharing. They want to know if you’re qualified to provide them with a chemical peel, laser treatment, or eyelash perm before they commit. When you’re unsure about how to compose a resume for an esthetician, list out all of your education and credentials.

Credentials, education, and experience are all important for establishing credibility. Whether you went to the NIMA Institute, received an esthetician certificate from your local community college, or completed medical school as a dermatologist, it makes a difference. Finding a Master Esthetician program Near you may be a bit time consuming but NIMA is a Great choice and they provide online classes!

Achievements

Consider some other aesthetician resume and bio samples for inspiration. Whether you’re a seasoned esthetician or an expert skin care specialist, your accomplishments are worthless unless your clients are aware of them. Don’t be afraid to flash a little humble brag now and then. Tell your followers about the wonderful things you’ve accomplished in your field and how they’ve been recognized. After all, you worked hard. It’s now time to let the fruits of your labor and honors shine brightly.

It’s vital to understand where you’ve been, but it’s also crucial to think about where you’ll be going. What are your long-term goals as a skin care professional? Maybe you want to start a med spa or a massage therapy practice. Talking about the road ahead will pique your client’s interest in traveling with you on your adventure. Maybe you want to attend a Master Aesthetician class near you!

What Makes You Unique

It’s crucial to include what sets you apart from others in your bio, just as it is with your specialty. Don’t be afraid to be a little vulnerable with this phrase or two. When someone is thinking about booking you for esthetics or skin treatment, it is critical that you communicate honestly and openly.

You could concentrate on curing your customers from the inside out, or delight in forming long-term relationships with them. Clients will come to you with both life and skin-related issues, so if you’re open and personable in your bio, they’ll feel more at ease before they even press that book button.

Tips for a great Esthetician Bio

Still need some more motivation on how to create an outstanding esthetician bio? Take a look at these ideas for excellent written content.

Be optimistic: A negative bio may be off-putting to a reader. Try to keep things upbeat and pleasant, but still professional.

Personal bit: We realize that many of you focus on spa treatments and skin care for the majority of your day. Try to include a personal touch. Do you like baking or hiking, spending time with your kids, or diving into your city’s coffee scene? Perfect. Adding anything other than cosmetology to your CV might make it more approachable.

Length: Different length Instagram stories will depend on whether you’re using them for your profile or a guest blog. The idea is to have a few different aesthetician bio samples prepared and ready to go, then use them as needed.

Spelling and Grammar: Nothing has the ability to demolish a well-constructed bio quite like a slew of misspelled words or a run-on sentence. To ensure professionalism and accuracy, be sure to check it for spelling errors in a handy dandy spellcheck program. You should also check for errors while you’re at it. A grammar checker is not a bad idea, either.

Share your work: Do you need a second opinion or some hands-on assistance in writing an esthetician bio? If you need a hand with your bio, reach out to your friends, family members, and other beauty industry acquaintances. Skin care experts who have been in the business for some time may also be a useful resource. Here’s how to find your dream master esthetician program .

The Art of Making a Lasting Impression as an Esthetician

In the competitive world of the beauty industry, it's essential to stand out from the crowd and make a memorable impression as an esthetician. Whether you specialize in specialty facial treatments, unique cosmetic procedures, or whole-body therapies, introducing yourself effectively is crucial to attracting clients and building a successful career. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore proven strategies to create a strong professional bio and make a lasting impression in the esthetician industry.

Why Your Esthetician Bio Matters

Before we dive into crafting the perfect bio, let's discuss why it holds such significance. Your esthetician bio not only provides essential information about who you are and what you do, but it also serves as a powerful tool to engage potential clients and entice them to book your services. It can be leveraged across various platforms such as social media, websites, printed materials, and email marketing campaigns to promote your brand and attract a wider audience. Think of your bio as a condensed version of your esthetician resume, showcasing your skills, experience, and unique selling points in an easily digestible and compelling manner.

Step 1: Be Clear About Your Identity

In a saturated market, it's crucial to be clear about who you are as an esthetician. Whether you specialize in skin treatments, facial massages, brow feathering, or hair removal, your bio opening should include concise and effective information that sets you apart from the competition. Highlight your unique qualities, expertise, and any specialized training or certifications you possess. This clarity will help potential clients identify why they should choose you over other estheticians in the area.

Step 2: Showcase Your Specialty

To attract clients as an esthetician, it's essential to promote your area of expertise. Clients are more likely to book your services if they see that you excel in a specific skill or treatment. Whether it's facial massages, laser hair removal, or holistic skincare approaches, narrowing down your specialty and highlighting it in your bio will make potential clients eager to book with you. Emphasize the benefits and results they can expect from your specialized services.

Step 3: Share Your Passion

One of the most effective ways to connect with potential clients is by sharing your passion for esthetics. Whether your interest in the beauty industry stemmed from childhood experiences or personal struggles with skincare, conveying your enthusiasm and backstory helps create an emotional connection with your readers. Share your journey, personal anecdotes, and what drives you to provide exceptional esthetician services. This authenticity will resonate with clients and make them feel more comfortable and confident in choosing you as their esthetician.

Step 4: Highlight Credentials and Education

Clients want to know if you are qualified and experienced in providing the services they seek. In your bio, list your credentials, education, and any relevant training or certifications you have obtained. Whether you attended a prestigious esthetician school, obtained specialized training in advanced skincare techniques, or have received recognition for your work, showcasing your qualifications builds credibility and instills confidence in potential clients. Highlighting your educational background and achievements demonstrates your commitment to excellence in the field.

Step 5: Showcase Achievements and Accolades

Don't be shy about highlighting your achievements and accolades in your bio. If you've received recognition or awards for your work as an esthetician, be sure to mention them. Whether you've been featured in industry publications, won competitions, or received positive feedback from satisfied clients, sharing these accomplishments helps differentiate you from competitors and builds trust with potential clients. It's an opportunity to showcase your expertise and demonstrate the value you bring as an esthetician.

Step 6: Express Your Goals

In addition to highlighting your past accomplishments, it's important to share your future goals as an esthetician. Express your aspirations and ambitions for your career, such as opening your own med spa or expanding your skincare services. By showcasing your vision and plans for growth, you can create excitement and inspire potential clients to be part of your journey. Align your goals with your clients' needs and aspirations to foster a sense of connection and build long-term relationships.

Step 7: Emphasize Your Uniqueness

In a crowded industry, it's essential to highlight what makes you unique as an esthetician. Consider your approach, values, and personal touch that sets you apart from others. Whether you pride yourself on holistic healing, personalized skincare regimens, or building long-term relationships with clients, communicate your unique selling proposition in your bio. By being open, approachable, and genuine, you create a welcoming environment for potential clients and make them feel comfortable even before they book your services.

Tips for Crafting an Outstanding Esthetician Bio

Crafting an outstanding esthetician bio requires attention to detail and a strategic approach. Here are some additional tips to help you create a compelling and memorable bio:

  • Be positive: Maintain a positive and lighthearted tone in your bio. Avoid negativity or self-deprecating humor that may deter potential clients.
  • Inject personality: Infuse your bio with your unique personality to make it more engaging and relatable. Let your true self shine through your words.
  • Use testimonials: If you have positive testimonials from satisfied clients, consider incorporating them into your bio. Testimonials add social proof and credibility to your services.
  • Be concise: Keep your bio concise and to the point. Use clear and concise language to convey your message effectively.
  • Proofread and edit: Ensure your bio is free of spelling and grammatical errors. Double-check for clarity and coherence.
  • Seek feedback: Ask trusted friends, family, or fellow estheticians to review your bio and provide feedback. Outside perspectives can help you refine your message and make improvements.
  • Update regularly: As you grow and evolve as an esthetician, update your bio to reflect your current accomplishments, goals, and unique offerings. Regularly refreshing your bio keeps it relevant and engaging.

Crafting a compelling esthetician bio is a vital step in establishing your professional presence and attracting potential clients. By following the steps outlined in this guide and incorporating your unique personality and expertise, you can create a memorable impression and set yourself apart in the competitive esthetician industry. Remember, your bio is your opportunity to showcase your skills, passion, and accomplishments, so make it count and leave a lasting impression.

8 Things Every Esthetician Should Do in Their First Year

How to Create a Killer Esthetician Bio

biography esthetician bio samples

You say aesthetician, I say esthetician: the fact is, regardless of how you spell it, one thing everyone needs is a killer bio! Whether you’re a student or accomplished professional, a great bio is important for your esthetics career. So, what does it take to craft a cool bio that says WOW? Check out our 5 tips to give you some inspiration and get your creativity flowing.

Why do I need a bio?

Good question. Your bio not only tells your readers (visiting your website or in your marketing materials) or a prospective employer who you are and what you do; it engages them and makes them want to know more about you. A good esthetician bio should be used throughout your marketing – social media, website, printed materials including your treatment menu and email campaigns.

In a nutshell, your bio is a story about your life as it relates to your profession. It’s a little like a resume, but instead of listing your specific skills and work experience, it weaves those things into an engaging, easy to read brief highlighting your objectives and showcasing your brand identity.

Your bio is the first impression you make on your clients before they meet you, talk to you on the phone or via virtual consult or book an appointment. It’s critical you deliver a powerful impact to get and keep their attention.

Crafting Your Esthetician Bio: 5 Tips

1. The 3 P’s: Positive, Passionate, Professional. Keep it light and engaging (but professional) – like you are having a conversation with the reader.

2. Get Personal: Add something about you that isn’t specifically esthetics related. Are you a vulture for culture? Do you love to travel or garden? Adding something about you makes you more relatable and approachable.

3. Vary the Length: The length of your bio will vary depending on whether you use it for social media, your website, a blurb at the end of a guest blog or podcast, or an email or letter. It’s recommended to have a few different bio examples on hand that you can quickly customize to fit the situation.

4. Edit, Edit, Edit : Proofreading seems to be a vanishing art these days. We find spelling and grammar errors everywhere from newsfeeds to eBooks and blog posts. Nothing turns readers off more quickly than misspelled words and poor basic sentence structure. Use spell check, grammar check, and/or have someone else proof your bio for accuracy and clarity.

5. Hire a pro : If you feel you just don’t have the talent (or desire) to write your own bio, or your need a second opinion, reach out to family, friends or colleagues with great writing skills or try a freelance service like Fivver (or see resources below).

· Remember the 3 P’s – be passionate, positive, and professional.

· Write clearly and concisely and use editing software like spell and grammar check or another “eye” to help you proofread your bio.

· Highlight your education, your accomplishments, specialties, and something personal about you that would interest your readers.

Make a point to research other esthetician bios on the web for ideas. Look for story form that covers background and credentials as well as their goals and what they do to help their clients achieve their goals.

Your excellent customer service skills create easy rapport with clients. And your incredible knowledge of skincare products makes it easy for them to achieve their skincare goals.

It’s little wonder your client retention rate is impressive, and referrals regularly stream in.

You love the beauty industry, and clients love you.

Your dream job has just become available, and you’re panicked. “How do I make an esthetician resume that gets me an interview?” you ask yourself.

An anxious online search has brought you exactly where you need to be!

This article tells you how to write the perfect resume for estheticians in next to no time.

Whether a manager or a new esthetician, we share crucial information, expert hints, and resume tips on what hiring managers want. There’s also a full esthetician resume sample created on our resume builder.

No supermarket skin care products can match the results of skin care treatments in the hands of a skilled esthetician. Likewise, no DIY resume matches the professional results of a resume builder designed by recruitment experts.

Our resume template s are updated regularly to match current hiring trends. Research shows that resume builder resumes are more successful in landing interviews.

Let's get started!

Esthetician resume writing guide: Where to start?

Skincare plans are essential to glowing, healthy skin, but no two skincare routines are the same because skin types differ. Careers are like that, too. Even jobs that appear similar have significant differences since no two employers or employees are alike.

Way too few job seekers realize that job hunting involves much more than just submitting a resume. Successful job applicants know their career goals and understand what a prospective employer needs.

Getting to that point requires some upfront evaluation, sort of like doing a skin analysis on a new clients skin. How can you address someone’s skin concerns if you don’t understand what you’re working with?

Of course, any assessment also involves recognizing the limits of your product knowledge and esthetician skills. This self-knowledge review happens almost unconsciously as we draw on our existing skills and experience to make sense of the current situation. From here, you know what skincare products and treatments will work for specific clients.

Apply the same process to each job application.

Before starting your job hunt, identify your talents, strengths, weaknesses, and what you want from a future employer. This sets parameters to work in and allows you to plan each job application.

Determine your likes and dislikes by reviewing your career history from when you were a trainee to today. What aspects of beauty do you enjoy, what do you put off until later, and what do you avoid? Usually, things we put off are areas we find tedious or doubt our abilities. In contrast, we tend to avoid what we dislike. With this in mind, you can choose job opportunities that meet your career goals and where you’ll be happy.

Remembering each job's details becomes challenging, though, depending on your years of professional experience. Cut yourself some slack by creating a master esthetician resume upfront. That way, when you see a fantastic job opportunity, you can apply in minutes by referring to your master resume.

That makes compiling a master resume is your starting point.

An all-inclusive master resume that’s readily accessible is essential to meet today’s fast-paced hiring requirements, which brings us to another critical issue. Few job seekers understand how modern recruitment processes work or that AI in HR tech plays a significant role initially.

Let’s explain further –

Hiring managers compile a list of crucial skills required for an employee to succeed in doing the job well. These skills are tagged as keywords and written into the job description given to recruiters. As the job post gets loaded to job boards and websites, keywords are flagged and rated in order of importance. Applicant tracking systems, or ATS, are used to upload job ads to various media. They also receive all inbound applications, which are scanned immediately by parsing software for keyword content. Resumes with a high keyword ratio are moved to the recruiter’s inbox. Those with a low keyword ratio don’t make it through to recruiters' folders, making it unlikely they’ll get read.

Examples of typical esthetician resume keywords include:

  • Beauty treatments
  • Experienced esthetician
  • Facial treatments
  • Monthly inventory
  • Organic skincare
  • Passion for skincare

If your resume is passed to recruiters by ATS, don’t expect it to be reviewed for more than a few seconds. Recruiters know what they’re looking for; your resume moves to the interview list if they find it. If not, and your resume gets removed from the recruitment process.

That’s the reality of modern recruitment!

In truth, it works very well, considering the number of applications each job post receives. Your task is to understand the role of AI in ATS and how to get around it. And the short answer to that is by providing what’s required verbatim.

How you do it is straightforward. Submit a short, sharp, targeted, job-specific, and keyword-focused esthetician resume with only relevant experience and skills. Not only will this get you past ATS, but it will also impress hiring managers. An application that immediately says you can do the job and do it well meets a need and compels a reaction. The perfect response is a callback and a spot on the interview shortlist.

Submitting lengthy resumes full of irrelevant information is a common mistake. Instead of impressing, the resume gets overlooked as no one has time to wade through it in the hope there’s something valuable.

So, back to the starting point. A master esthetician resume to reference and ensure your job-specific resume is always on point.

Expert hint

Focus on what extensive experience, skills, and value you bring. That’s the only thing recruiters and hiring managers want to know when they first read your resume. Only if they think you can do the job will they continue reading.

Master licensed esthetician resume

A master resume details all your jobs, including responsibilities, education, courses, notable achievements, technical skills, and soft skills. Include study dates, education institution names, qualifications, certifications, license details, employer names, tenure dates, and job titles with job descriptions. List any accomplishments or awards under the relevant study or work section, as well.

Your master resume provides an expanded view of your career and is an essential tool for making successful job applications. By comparing job post requirements to your master resume, you ensure nothing relevant gets omitted from your job-specific resume.

A master resume has no specific format since it’s only for your use. However, a reverse-chronological order starting with the most recent and continuing in descending order makes referencing and finding details easier.

Take time to compile your master resume; it must be faultless and detailed. Ultimately, time spent on composition will be saved with each application, and you’re assured nothing important gets omitted.

Save your master and all supporting documents to an easily accessible folder. Aside from job applications, use it to update your LinkedIn profile and other business socials. If your resume makes the interview list, recruiters and hiring managers go straight to your online presence, so keep it updated.

Never apply for a job with your master resume, even if you’re in a rush. Only use it as the foundation for each job-specific resume.

Job-specific esthetician resume templates

No two jobs are ever the same, as each spa, salon, and client base are different. Therefore, approach every job application as a clean slate.

First, establish whether you’re a good fit for the job and if it will move you closer to your career goals. Visit prospective employers’ websites and search online beauty publications for more insight. Likewise, social media can give you an understanding of their client base, skincare products, aesthetic services, team, and management.

If the job ticks all the right boxes, compare the post to your master resume and extract matching skills and experience. Don’t forget transferrable skills, also known as portable skills. As the name implies, these soft skills can be transferred from one job role to another. Typical examples include exceptional customer service skills and having a positive attitude.

Once you’re sure you meet most of the critical requirements, it's time to write a targeted, job-specific esthetician resume. While taking relevant skills and experience from your master, remember to edit the words to mirror the keywords in the job post. That’s to ensure parsing software picks up the keywords and your resume moves through to the interview process. Furthermore, list your professional experience in the same order as the job description; hiring managers usually list responsibilities in the order of importance. In so doing, you bring your value and potential to the fore.

Crucially, your job-specific resume for estheticians jobs must only include the requirements detailed in the post. Anything else is irrelevant info that could hamper your application. A concise job-specific resume hooks readers in and gets you shortlisted. Once you’re engaging with the hiring team, you can provide additional details.

Avoid self-destructive practices like keyword stuffing or exaggerating anything on your resume. Things like this can cost you opportunities.

Format for esthetician resumes

Generally, reverse-chronological order esthetician resume templates are the most popular and work best for esthetician resumes. Other resume formats include combination or functional resumes.

Irrespective of the format, all job-specific resumes have mandatory and optional sections. Your resume must cover the following required areas:

  • Objective statement
  • Personal details
  • Work experience
  • Education/courses

Optional sections depend on the job requirements, or you can include them if they enhance your application. They include:

  • Accomplishments
  • Additional languages
  • Hobbies and interests

You’ve probably seen resumes with and without profile photos and are wondering what you should do. Including a professional resume image depends on the country where the potential employer is based. English-speaking countries in the West, including the UK and the USA, mostly legislate against resume photos to prevent hiring bias. In some of these countries, resumes with a picture are deleted without being read to promote transparency in hiring. The lines are vaguer across Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America, where some countries expect a resume image and others don’t. A quick online check on labor legislation in the specific region will guide you.

Action verbs

A positive, can-do attitude and superior customer service skills are essential for estheticians. Since your resume precedes you, the language and tone of your resume must express your personality and attitude.

Including compelling action verbs is an excellent way of engaging readers and demonstrating your personality. Skillfully weaving action verbs into your resume summary, work experience, and cover letter can compel readers to take action. A quick response gets you into the interview process ahead of other candidates and improves your chances of getting hired.

Esthetician action verbs include:

  • Implementing
  • Recommending

Does an aesthetician resume need a headline?

Resume headlines aren’t necessary, particularly if you have a resume objective. Neither is a resume header. That said, if you have a particular achievement or worked for an instantly recognizable organization, it serves as a resume hook. For example, “Licensed esthetician at Kosmetikinstitut, Switzerland.” Or “ Licensed esthetician with 10+ years of experience and own client base.”

Finishing touches

First impressions count as much for your resume as they do for you in person. And as you already know, esthetics often come down to the finer details.

Your resume background must be white and the font black in a business style, like Times New Roman. Use bullet points where necessary and have white space between sections. You want an ATS-friendly resume that’s reader-friendly, scannable, and saved in PDF format. Using a resume builder sorts these issues, allowing you to focus on quality content, making it the best option.

Draw readers in with tasteful colors on your resume, but only as borders and in resume headlines. Avoid color kaleidoscopes by selecting one color that enhances your resume and possibly reflects your personality or role.

Finally, limit your job-specific resume to one and no more than two pages. The critical job requirements must excite readers and get you on the interview list. Wordy, irrelevant details are a waste of time and will likely see your resume binned.

Only include relevant skills, work experience, and qualifications in your job-specific resume. What’s not in the post is irrelevant. Show you’ve got more to give by adding “detailed resume available on request” at the end of your resume.

What to include in a resume for estheticians? Writing tips and examples

Job posts dictate what information to have in all sections of experienced esthetician resumes. A strong resume includes all your skills and experience that match the job requirements and possibly other details that can enhance your application. Don’t add anything just for the sake of it, though; if it doesn’t add value, it doesn’t belong.

Look for mentions in the vacancy like “added advantage” or “nice to have.” While not essential, these experiences or skills will boost your application. For example, multilingualism might not be a prerequisite, but it enhances your application if the client base is diverse.

Effective resume writing is a delicate balance, just like skincare treatments. Too much attention spoils the result, while too little is likely ineffective. Keep assessing if including optional enhancements, like accomplishments , add or take away from your application.

How to write a personal profile on an esthetician resume

All skin care professionals must have a brief bio as a resume opener. Known as a personal profile, resume summary, or resume objective , it’s the first thing readers see.

Consider it the “about me” section of your resume. A personal profile comprises around 80 to 100 words, giving readers insight into your relevant certificates, licensing, work experience, skills, and notable achievements. Since it’s the first thing readers see, it’s your only chance to impress, meaning it makes or breaks your application.

Usually, it’s best to write your resume objective once you’ve completed your job-specific resume. That way, you ensure it’s relevant to the role and aligns with your resume. Include specifics, statistics, and numbers where possible for greater word count and impact. Don’t forget vital keywords, and write in a confident and persuasive tone. Your resume summaries must be interesting enough to grab the reader’s curiosity, so they keep reading.

Resume summaries are, however, not a cover or motivation letter . Every resume wants a personal profile, but not every job application needs a cover letter.

Esthetician resume objectives are part of targeted, job-specific resumes. It briefly summarizes your relevant experience, skills, and qualifications related to the job. Conversely, an esthetician cover letter is separate and more detailed, providing background details, intentions, and ambitions. Write it in 300 to 400 words, broken into three to six paragraphs on a single page. Usually, a cover letter is addressed to someone specific by name, much like a business letter. Cover letters are targeted to individual job applications, too. Avoid generic cover letters sent with every application. They’re pointless and can damage your chances of getting hired.

Cover letters motivate job applications, articulating to prospective employers why you’re the best candidate. They aim to provide information backed up on the resume to give deeper insight into your application.

A cover letter’s length and additional content can confuse ATS, reducing the keyword count. So, include keywords from the post in your cover letter, too.

Not every job application needs a cover letter. Only include one if:

  • The job post specifies the inclusion of a cover letter.
  • You’re applying directly to a company without replying to a job ad.

Skills to list on an esthetician resume

Esthetician skills are essential in your resume to get hired. The skills section is the first place ATS, recruiters, and hiring managers scan through.

In a job-specific resume, you want only the skills listed in the job post, irrespective of how many additional skills you might have. Esthetics industry skills include soft skills and technical skills in the job description.

Soft skills are inherent or developed personality traits gained from family or social interactions. They’re not traditionally taught, but we can acquire them through career coaching. Active listening is a perfect example. We’re not all born great listeners, but we can learn listening skills from our social surroundings. Even in later life, if we choose to develop active listening skills, we can. It’s a necessary skill in customer service as it helps you recognize consumer pain points.

On the contrary, any technical skills are learned through education, training, and hands-on experience. Initial foundational training continues developing through practice and continuous use. Take advanced skincare treatments, for instance; initially, it can be a little daunting. Regular use, however, improves skills, and soon you’re an expert at it.

The more beauty industry experience you’ve, the more you accumulate. While all skills must be in your master resume, they don’t all belong in your esthetician resume skills section. A targeted, job-specific resume only lists skills stated in the advert.

List skills individually precisely as they appear in the post. Give a rating next to each skill from beginner to expert.

Typical skills for esthetician resume include:

  • Body treatments
  • Hair removal treatments
  • Skincare treatments
  • Retail sales

Include a brief list of your esthetician skills and a proficiency rating per skill. Mirror the job post’s wording exactly, and don’t elaborate. Resume skills are always tagged as keywords for parsing software.

How to write work experience on an esthetician resume

Licensed estheticians can work in private salons, spas, dermatology clinics, department stores, and cruise ships. They can work from home, become salon or spa owners, beauty bloggers, social media influencers, or beauty school instructors, as well.

Specializing in specific services to clients, such as body hair removal treatments, medical esthetics, and laser therapy, increases earning potential.

The esthetician job description for resume section is second in importance only to the skills section. It becomes even more important once you reach the interview stage. Hiring teams will base their interview questions on the details from this section.

Your resume objective gave a brief overview of what value you offer. Here, you expand on it and sell your knowledge of skincare products and treatments as the solution to the employer’s need. It’s simple - they need an esthetician, and you have the relevant qualifications, skills, and experience. It’s up to you to convince them you’re the perfect candidate.

In hiring, it’s not necessarily the most experienced or cost-effective applicant who gets the job; it’s the first candidate most likely to succeed in the role. Employees who excel enjoy their jobs and stay. Staff retention equates directly to client retention and business success.

Make your esthetician description for resume convincing enough to get a callback and an interview. Keep your resume authentic so you’re a perfect fit when you meet the hiring team. Write honestly and confidently, using strong action verbs and listing your work experience in the same order as the job description.

Use a business font, bullet points, clear headings, and white space to make this section reader-friendly. Fit each core responsibility into a single bullet point, including exact keywords. Various people will likely view your resume when you apply to large establishments. Ensure it’s easy to follow, comment on, and share.

What is an esthetician resume summary?

A resume summary, or resume objective, is a short about me bio in around 80 words. Used with or without resume headlines, it sits at the top of your resume, giving readers insight into the content. It must be relevant to the vacancy, contain keywords, and hook attention to make readers want to know more about you.

Must an esthetician be licensed?

While licensing standards vary, almost all countries require estheticians to be licensed before they can practice. A minimum amount of practice hours is needed, followed by practical and written exams before a license is issued. Specific specializations may require separate licensing. Depending on the country, state, or board, licenses must be renewed every few years.

Does an esthetician student need a resume?

Yes. Whether you’re applying for an internship, an apprenticeship, or a permanent position as a trainee, you’ll need an entry level esthetician resume. Compensate your lack of work experience by detailing your education, training courses, and professional qualifications. What Matters Most: Your Skills & Professional Experiences

Your resume skills and work experience

Your skills are the building blocks for your new career. Recruiters want to easily skim over your technical abilities and compare them against the job’s needs. That means you should be comparing your skills list with those in the job description !

Look for keywords like “Manicures/Pedicures” or “Treatment Planning” that you can match in your skills section. List programs and tools by name. Keep your list as relevant to the job as possible.

That means getting specific, and we recommend honing your skills to show your unique approach to the esthetician role! Don’t say “communication” when you can specify that you’re great at listening to clients’ needs.

Sample entry-level esthetician work experience bullet points

Your job skills are amazing, but they’re more like tools of the trade, and recruiters need examples of how you’ve used them. Did you benefit your last employer by improving efficiency?

Recruiters want to see solid examples of your positive impact on other estheticians and clients. Did you improve general practices by suggesting a new client feedback system? How did your display ideas help upsell limited-time products?

And don’t forget the numbers that go with those success stories! Recruiters want quantifiable data that measures your impact. Consider satisfaction percentages, client return rates, and any other positive star ratings or reviews substantiating your contributions as an entry-level esthetician.

Here are some samples:

  • Attended to 16+ clients with strained facial muscles and reduced their pain by 87% within two sessions
  • Promoted Eminence and SkinCeuticals products to record a 38% surge in sell-through rates
  • Streamlined customer scheduling via Meevo and increased weekly bookings by 77% while maintaining 0 instances of double-booking
  • Administered effective wrinkle and acne treatments using LightSim, boosting customer satisfaction ratings by 46%
  • Maintained a customer-friendly environment, earning a personal feedback rating of 4.8/5.0 stars

Top 5 Tips for Your Entry Level Esthetician Resume

  • Aim for a one-page resume . Recruiters can only spend a few seconds on average reviewing your resume. Keep it short, streamline anything you can, and leave them eager for more!
  • If you’re struggling to fill the page with qualifying experiences, think back to any internships you’ve had. Did you shadow an esthetician or stylist in the past for a school project? If it relates to your current goals and strengthens your capabilities, list it!
  • Revisit the job description for this one and pull up the company website, too. Look up what it takes for you to understand the brand and company culture. Then, write your resume with a tone that fits the style of the work environment as if you’d been there doling out skin care treatments all along!
  • If you step back to look at your resume and still crave some more reinforcements, call upon your references! If you have any memorable professors, previous coworkers, or former employers who know how ambitious and creative you are, ask them for professional letters of recommendation and attach them to your resume.
  • Any of our three entry-level esthetician resume templates would look great on you! Once you try them, pick the one that plays up your best features, just like you’d pick the most suitable products to recommend to a client. A side column is ideal if you include internships, volunteer initiatives, or academic awards to boost your credibility.

Cover letters are a great place for an entry-level applicant to expand on their existing work experiences and how they translate into qualifications as an esthetician. They’re also great for experience points that are good, but a little too “clunky” to present on your resume.

You can still leverage those work experiences to your advantage! Not every entry-level esthetician is fresh out of school. If you have experience in a hair or nail salon, you’ll naturally find some overlapping skills. But you can still find translatable organizational and interpersonal skills in almost any profession.

No, you don’t need to fill your whole resume page, especially for an entry-level. Present your top-quality information as beautifully as possible while keeping things readable and sleek.

A professional bio or biography is a short overview of your experience. Professional bios usually include details about education, employment, achievements, and relevant skills.

Purpose of Professional Bios

A bio tells an audience about who you are, what you've done, and what you can do. It can help potential employers, fans, or customers understand your personality and what you stand for.

Writing a bio without a clear starting point is challenging — believe me, I've tried. To ease the process, here are some templates I put together to get you started.

I‘ve found it’s best to keep your professional bio honest and to the point. Too long of a bio, and you risk losing your audience's attention. After all, audiences will only read a web page for less than a minute before clicking elsewhere.

And honesty is key because most consumers and clients won‘t invest in someone or something if it doesn’t seem trustworthy. In fact, 67% of consumers say they must trust a brand before investing in its products or services.

What should a professional bio say?

No one wants to work with a clone — your professional bio should be as unique as you.

When writing your bio, include important professional roles and achievements. Add your passions, interests, and how you bring your values to your work. Finally, your bio should let readers know you and reflect your personality.

Here are the elements I recommend including when writing a professional bio:

Professional Roles and Achievements

It's essential to highlight your career roles and achievements in your bio. This can include your current position, previous roles, and notable accomplishments. It will help establish your expertise and credibility and start your bio on the right note.

Passions and Interests

This might be less essential, but it will help humanize you. Remember: Bios are shared via an impersonal medium, like a screen, and can sometimes feel distant if we don't take the proper steps.

Share your passions and interests, whether or not they relate to your work or industry. That way, you can show enthusiasm and dedication outside your professional life.

Plus, you could find common ground with readers — which is always beneficial.

Take a look at this short bio by HubSpot staff writer Erica Santiago.

biography esthetician bio samples

"Plus," she adds, "I'm always happy to talk about my cats at any given moment. You never know when a fellow cat mom could be reading."

Values and Work Approach

Your values can sometimes show your work ethic more effectively than your career path. It can also help you endear yourself to employers and colleagues who want to work with people with similar values.

So don‘t be shy: Share how you incorporate your values into your work. Whether it’s a commitment to innovation, customer satisfaction, or ethical decision-making, explain what drives you and be enthusiastic about it.

Your Personality

Remember: Your bio should always include a taste of your personality! Your sense of humor, creativity, or collaborative nature could all give readers a sense of who you are. This helps readers connect with you on a more personal level.

Remember to tailor your bio for different platforms and audiences. Also, keep it concise and impactful while highlighting the most relevant information in each context.

First-Person Bio vs. Third-Person Bio

While first-person bios are common, third-person bios can be more effective in formal situations.

Your decision to write your professional bio in the first or third person depends on your desire to leave a more personable or assertive impression.

Both approaches work, provided you tailor them to your goals and audience. What’s important is to be clear and tell your story in a way that connects with your reader.

How to Write a First-Person Bio

Writing in the first person can be a great way to connect with your audience when building a personal brand. When you write a first-person bio, use "I" or "me" to make yourself relatable and approachable.

Here's one way I’d write a first-person bio:

"I'm a freelance writer specializing in small business content. I've worked with companies in a variety of industries like home care to fine leather goods."

Speaking in the first person here connects you with a client or brand based on your experience and opinions. Put another way, writing a first-person bio is like telling your story to your audience.

Here are a few tips to make your first-person bio great:

Don’t start every sentence with "I."

Showing instead of telling is a great approach.

Let’s say you’re a writer who wants to create a short professional bio. Instead of saying, "I love to write," you can say, "Writer. Bad but enthusiastic dancer."

This portrays your writing skill, shows your personality outside of writing as a dancer, and includes a little sense of humor, which is essential for a writer.

Remember, you know yourself better than anyone.

Adding a back story to your bio helps create context for the roles and successes you write about. Think of it like a case study about who you were, what you are now, and the process that got you to your current position.

Focus on valuable details.

Quick facts about you can showcase your identity and values. For example, if you're writing a bio for LinkedIn, think about how to tie your hobby into what you do.

Let's say Animal Crossing is your hobby. Does it align with your career aspirations? It can be a great addition to your bio if you want to pursue a video game career.

However, if your interests lie elsewhere, including a more relevant hobby is better.

How to Write a Third-Person Bio

Third-person bios sound more authoritative and objective. So, if you’re job searching in a formal industry, applying for grants, or trying to get published, you may want to stick to the third person.

For instance, when you write a third-person bio, you may start with:

"Jasmine Montgomery is a Senior Hiring Manager at L’Oreal based in New York. She recruits across several business units to connect with the brightest talent from around the globe."

By only using your name and pronouns to speak about yourself here, you are letting your title and skill set speak for themselves.

These bios create distance between the subject of the bio (you) and the reader through a third person. This person could be anyone, but they usually speak in a tone emphasizing their expertise.

This makes third-person bios feel aloof or overly formal sometimes.

Ideally, your third-person bio should sound friendly but polished, like a message from a close colleague at work. Here are a few tips on how to write a great third-person bio.

Write from the perspective of someone you know and trust.

It can be challenging to write about yourself, so try to see yourself from the perspective of your favorite person at work or a mentor you trust. This can help you write from a position of authority without feeling self-conscious.

Show the reader why they should trust your opinion.

A professional bio often reflects a specific industry or niche. With this in mind, your text should include relevant details that professionals in your industry know. Avoid jargon whenever you can.

Remember, you're telling a story.

If you want a third-person bio, but you're used to writing in first-person, it may help to write it the most comfortable way for you.

Your professional bio is an essential piece of writing, so edit it carefully. Edit your writing from both points of view and see which works best for your target audience.

Here's how to write a professional bio, step by step.

  • Create an 'About' page for your website or profile.
  • Begin writing your bio with your first and last name.
  • Mention any associated brand name you might use.
  • State your current position and what you do.
  • Include at least one professional accomplishment.
  • Describe your values and how they inform your career.
  • Briefly tell your readers who you are outside of work.
  • Use humor or a personal story to add flavor to your professional bio.

If you’re anything like me, you probably don't think about your professional bio until you’re asked to "send one over via email."

You have one afternoon to come up with it, so you scramble together a bio that ends up reading like this:

"Rodney Erickson is a content marketing professional at HubSpot, a CRM platform that helps companies attract visitors, convert leads, and close customers.

Previously, Rodney worked as a marketing manager for a tech software startup. He graduated with honors from Columbia University with a dual degree in Business Administration and Creative Writing."

To be fair, in certain contexts, your professional bio needs to be more formal, like Mr. Erickson's up there. But there are also cases where writing a personable and conversational bio is good.

Whether you choose the formal or casual route, use the following steps to create a perfect bio.

1. Create an 'About' page for your website or profile.

You need an online space to keep your professional bio. Here are a few to consider (some of these you might already have in place):

  • Facebook Business page .
  • Industry blog byline .
  • Instagram account .
  • Personal website .
  • LinkedIn profile .
  • Industry website .
  • Personal blog .

As you'll see in the professional bio examples below, the length and tone of your bio will differ depending on the platforms you use.

Instagram, for example, allows only 150 characters of bio space, whereas you can write as much as you want on your website or Facebook Business page.

2. Begin writing your bio with your first and last name.

If your readers remember nothing else about your bio, they should remember your name. Therefore, it's a good idea for your first and last name to be the first two words of your professional bio.

Even if your name is printed above this bio (hint: it should), this is a rare moment where it's okay to be redundant.

For example, if I were writing my bio, I might start it like this:

Lindsay Kolowich

Lindsay Kolowich is a Senior Marketing Manager at HubSpot.

3. Mention any associated brand name you might use.

Will your professional bio represent you or a business you work for? Ensure you mention the brand you associate with in your bio. If you're a freelancer, you may have a personal business name or pseudonym you advertise to your clients.

Here are a few examples:

  • Lindsay Kolowich Marketing.
  • SEO Lindsay.
  • Kolowich Consulting.
  • Content by Kolowich (what do you think ... too cheesy?).

Maybe you founded your own company and want its name to be separate from your real name. Keep it simple like this: "Lindsay Kolowich is the founder and CEO of Kolowich Consulting."

4. State your current position and what you do.

Whether you're the author of a novel or a mid-level specialist, use the following few lines of your bio to describe what you do in that position. Refrain from assuming your audience knows what your job title entails.

Make your primary responsibilities known so readers can know you and understand what you offer to your industry.

5. Include at least one professional accomplishment.

Just as a business touts its client successes through case studies, your professional bio should let your audience know what you've achieved.

What have you done for yourself — as well as for others — that makes you a valuable player in your industry?

6. Describe your values and how they inform your career.

Why do you do what you do? What might make your contribution to the market different from your colleagues? What are the values that make your business a worthwhile investment to others?

Create a professional bio that answers these questions.

7. Briefly tell your readers who you are outside of work.

Transition from describing your values in work to defining who you are outside of work. This may include:

  • Your family.
  • Your hometown.
  • Sports you play.
  • Hobbies and interests.
  • Favorite music and travel destinations.
  • Side hustles you're working on.

People like connecting with other people. The more transparent you are about who you are personally, the more likable you'll be to people reading about you.

8. Use humor or a personal story to add flavor to your professional bio.

End your professional bio on a good or, more specifically, a funny note. By leaving your audience with something quirky or unique, you can ensure they'll leave your website with a pleasant impression of you.

Following the steps above when writing your bio is important, but take your time with one section. People consume lots of information daily. So ensure your bio hooks 'em in the first line, and you won’t lose them.

(P.S. Want to boost your professional brand? Take one of HubSpot Academy's free certification courses . In just one weekend, you can add a line to your resume and bio that over 60,000 marketers covet.)

Why Good Bios Are Important for a Professional

You may think, "How many people read professional bios, anyway?"

The answer: A lot. Though there's no way to tell who is reading it, you want it catchy. Your professional bio will delight the right people coming across it on multiple platforms.

Professional bios can live on your LinkedIn profile , company website, guest posts, speaker profiles, Twitter bio , Instagram bio , and many other places.

And most importantly, it‘s the tool you can leverage most when you’re networking.

Bottom line? People will read your professional bio. Whether they remember it or it makes them care about you is a matter of how well you present yourself to your intended audience.

For instance, consider his tagline, under "About" — " Quiet during the day. QUITE LOUD at night! " DJ Nexus tells you when he works awesomely. I got goosebumps just imagining a dance club where he might play music.

The second is the "long version," which is even more interesting than the first. Why? It reads like a story — a compelling one, at that. In fact, it gets hilarious in some parts.

The second sentence of the bio reads: "He was frightened of public school, loved playing baseball and football, ran home to watch ape films on the 4:30 Movie, listened to The Jam and The Buzzcocks, and read magic trick books."

Here's another excerpt from the middle:

I wouldn‘t necessarily be inclined to follow Chris if his bio had simply read, "I post beautiful images." But images that inspire me to travel? Now that’s something I can get behind.

Last, he ends on a humble, sweet note: "He is happiest with his wife Breanne raising their two sons." So inject personal information into your bio — it makes you seem approachable.

  • It highlights Chris’s achievement without bragging.
  • The last sentence portrays Chris as a responsible man who loves his family.
  • The well-written bio speaks to nature lovers who like the outdoors, surfing, and more. This gives them reasons to follow Chris.

10. Lisa Quine : Creative Consultant

The rest of her bio similarly focuses on Twine's strengths as someone who’s able to take hair care "back to basics."

Mouzon effectively grips the reader's attention with this introduction and then dives into some of her impressive accomplishments — including a brand now sold at Urban Outfitters and Target.

The language used throughout Mouzon's bio is authentic, real, and honest.

For instance, in the second paragraph, she admits:

"While building a brand may have looked effortless from the outside, starting a business at age 23 with no resources or funding quickly forced me to realize that early-stage entrepreneurship was anything but transparent."

As an avid Zumba fan, I was excited to include this one. Perez styles his LinkedIn bio as a short story, starting with his background as a hard-working teen who held three jobs by age 14.

His bio tells the fun and fascinating origin story of Zumba, in which Perez, an aerobics teacher in Florida at the time, forgot his music for class and used a Latin music cassette tape instead ... "And it was an instant hit!"

His bio continues:

"Shortly after he was connected to Alberto Periman and Alberto Aghion, and Zumba was officially created ... What started as a dream now has 15 million people in more than 200,000 locations in 186 countries who take Zumba classes every week."

There's something in there for everyone.

  • The last section of the bio shows Ann’s warm personality — "Ann lives in Boston, where she is Mom to creatures two- and four-legged."
  • Written in the third person, this bio has lots of proof (like followers), which shows Ann is a terrific marketing leader.

If you're posting a bio on a social media account or sending a quick blurb to a client, you want to keep it short and sweet while showcasing your accomplishments.

To get started, use these best practices for writing your short professional bio:

  • Introduce yourself.
  • State what you do.
  • Add key skills or areas of expertise.
  • Include a personal mission statement
  • Celebrate your wins.
  • Provide your contact information.
  • Show them your personality.

1. Introduce yourself.

Your introduction is your first impression, so always begin by telling people who you are. You may start with a greeting like, "Hello, my name is" or "Hi! Let me first introduce myself …" when sending your bio as a message.

If you’re writing a bio for an online platform, stating your name at the beginning works as well.

Leading with your name — even as a question — is important for recognition and building relationships.

2. State what you do.

Give people an idea of what you do daily and where you work. Your job title is how the people put you into context and consider whether your profession relates to their industry.

So detail your most relevant work in your short bios, like CEO, professor, and author.

Take a cue from Angela Duckworth , who specifies what she does in her LinkedIn bio:

biography esthetician bio samples

3. Add key skills or areas of expertise.

If you send a bio to a client or potential employer, highlight your most valuable skills. For instance, if your expertise is in social media marketing and content creation, like Ivanka Dekoning , list these skills.

biography esthetician bio samples
  • A joke. "Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once. At least that’s what I learned when I created…"
  • Mention a hobby. "I’ll be honest: for me, tennis is life — Go Nadal!"
  • A fun fact. "Every year, I watch 100 new films! I’m a cinephile and love every movie genre."
  • A few emojis related to your interests. "🎶🤖🎾🎬🎭"

Whichever way you choose to get personal, give people a glimpse into who you are as an individual.

When writing a short bio, it can be tempting to pack in as much relevant information about yourself as possible — but this isn’t the most effective approach.

Instead, focus on including the details that you and your audience care about most and leave out the fluff.

Let's dive into a few examples of short professional bios.

Short Professional Bio Examples

  • Tristen Taylor: Marketing Manager
  • Lianna Patch: Copywriter
  • Precious Oboidhe: Content Strategist and Writer
  • Rebecca Bollwitt: Writer

1. Tristen Taylor: Marketing Manager

Bio platform: blog byline.

Tristen Taylor is a Marketing Manager here at HubSpot. She's written content for HubSpot's Marketing, Sales, and Customer Service blogs; her blog author bio is one of my favorites.

What I love most about Tristen's bio is that it’s a great example of how to deliver information about yourself that is relevant to your work while also sharing fun details that audiences will find relatable.

Her bio reads:

"Building from her experience with GoCo.io and Southwest Airlines, Tristen's work has been recognized by Marketing Brew and BLACK@INBOUND. She lives in Washington, DC, attending anime conventions and painting in her free time."

Gilmore further includes a CTA link within her Instagram bio that leads followers to free, ready-to-use recipes. You might think, " Why would she do that since it discourages people from buying her book?"

But that couldn't be further from the truth.

By giving her followers the chance to try out her recipes, she's slowly turning leads into customers. After I tried a few of her Instagram recipes and loved them, I bought her book, knowing I'd like more of what she offered.

  • The bio is short and direct.
  • The CTA link includes an invitation for people to join her newsletter. Meaning, she can build her email list.

6. Bea Dixon : Feminine Care Founder

Bea Dixon, Founder and CEO of The Honey Pot Company, efficiently uses the space on her Instagram profile to highlight who she is as a well-rounded human — not just a businesswoman.

For instance, while she highlights her girl boss attitude with a tiara emoji, she equally calls attention to her fashion interests (Free People), her pets, Boss and Sadie, and her love for ramen noodles.

Missy – Director/Owner & Esthetician

Missy attended The University of Rhode Island where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Textiles, Merchandising, and Design with a minor in Business. Upon graduation, she then pursued a career in the garment industry of New York City, starting as a Merchandising Assistant for a department store and quickly getting promoted to an Assistant Buyer.

Years later, she realized she had a strong passion for Esthetics and decided to enroll at The Catherine Hinds Institute where she graduated with a certificate in Advanced Esthetics. After practicing as an Esthetician for over twelve years, Missy and her husband Sean, opened The Skin & Body Spa.
