Fanatics gets a 3.5/5 from me in this section. Right off the bat, it lost points because there is no way to access the platform from a desktop or laptop at the moment. If you wish to use Fanatics, you have to download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store. I found this to be quite restrictive, as, although mobile betting is taking over, many users still prefer to bet on sportsbooks through their browser. Perhaps this is set to change in the future, especially considering the acquisition of PointsBet. 

With that being said, FanDuel’s app itself is fantastic, with a well-thought-out and intuitive interface . It is a breeze to explore the various betting markets, select events, and seamlessly place bets. Visually, the sportsbook has a modern and sophisticated feel with crisp graphics. This sleek design is the icing on the cake, really enhancing the overall experience. I had a lot of fun playing with this app.

This is due to some Android users reporting issues with the app frequently crashing. I tried it out on both, and the performance was consistent in my experience. Still, it’s one to keep an eye on.

Fanatics gets a 4/5 regarding its features. I have to say that I'm impressed by the variety of markets, availability of live betting , streaming, and early cash-out. The withdrawal tracker is something different that definitely makes you feel seen and cared for by the customer. We have to shout out FanCash and the interplay between Fanatics merchandising business and the sportsbook too, which we cover in the promotions section.

There is some room for improvement, though: apart from the withdrawal tracker, most of the features at Fanatics are available elsewhere, so it would be nice to see them come up with something really unique to stand out.

The bonuses are good but fairly run of the mill, while the loyalty scheme is interesting but probably just behind those of the leading competitors. The overlap between the merchandising business and the sportsbook will definitely appeal a lot to some users and less so to others.

Withdrawal Tracker

This unique feature is based on the same kind of functionality that allows you to track online orders – just like food or clothing orders. Click on the withdrawal tracker when you’re logged in, and you can see the status of your withdrawal – for example, if it’s been submitted, accepted, or processed, so that you’ll have a better idea of when to expect your money.

Cashout is a key feature, because it allows you to potentially make some money out of a bet, even if it’s a loss. Cashout isn’t available for all bets though, but you can take advantage of it on certain singles and parlay bets. You’ll usually be able to see the markets that offer cashout, as they’re pretty clearly signposted.

Many online sportsbooks have some type of loyalty rewards program, or offer the occasional cashback or free spins promo to give bettors a little treat, but the FanCash program really stands out.

With the backing of the Fanatics brand, it’s no surprise that the Fanatics sportsbook has a good reputation. It’s rare to find any negative reviews, although of course there are a few out there. The apps are highly rated, and I had a look through some of the customer reviews when I was writing my Fanatics review. Besides a few people who were disgruntled with not winning, there’s nothing concerning floating around.

Smooth User Experience

As I mentioned earlier in my Fanatics Sportsbook review, this is a really modern online sportsbook, so you can expect a slick experience on both desktop and mobile. Navigation is smooth and intuitive, and you’ll be able to make your way around the site with just a few clicks (or taps on mobile). Also, given that you can bet on pretty much all popular sports, Fanatics has something for everyone – whether you want to bet on single markets, parlays, props, or even in-play events, those types of bets are available.

It’s worth remembering that you’ll need Android 6.0 or higher, or iOS 15.0 or later to be able to get the app, and that it’s not compatible with iPads. The Fanatics betting app already has hundreds of thousands of downloads on both platforms, and the ratings are high, and climbing all the time.

I’m pleased to report that I was able to bet on all of the same markets as the desktop app has, and I was able to claim promos including FanCash from the mobile app. The mobile app design is extremely modern and sleek, and functions well on both iOS and Android devices.

Deposit Using Bank Cards, Venmo and More

Fanatics Sportsbook offers a good range of deposit and withdrawal methods that should suit all US bettors, but when I was writing my Fanatics review, I noticed that the methods vary depending on the state. So, you’ll be able to see the exact info when you sign up and log in for the first time. There are also a few methods that Fanatics sportsbook doesn’t accept in any locations, including credit cards, prepaid cards, Fanatics gift cards, Zelle, CashApp, and Play+ cards.

The most popular methods include instant bank transfers, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, debit cards, checks, and wire transfers. It’s worth noting that the minimum deposit is $5 for almost all of these methods, and all deposits should arrive in your account immediately.

Whenever you’re ready to withdraw, you can use most of the same methods, with the exception of Apple Pay. I was happy to see that the minimum withdrawal amount is as low as $1 for most methods, and the money usually only takes 2- 3 days to reach you. If you withdraw using a check, be prepared to wait about 10 working days.

One thing I noticed immediately when I was researching my Fanatics sportsbook review was that I was able to find almost any info I needed directly on the Fanatics sportsbook website, without needing to contact a team member directly. There’s a massive FAQs section that’s packed with useful information, including a betting guide for almost all of the sports.

Despite the helpful FAQs section, the Fanatics Sportsbook customer support team is available 24/7 and you can contact them by email (it may take up to 24 hours to get a response) or through live chat – which is much quicker and the better option in my opinion. To access live chat, log in to your account and click on the “Chat with support” option within your account section. The team should reply within a matter of minutes.

“Is Fanatics legit?” is a fair enough question, especially when you’re going to be using your own real money. I had a very good look into the level of security and licensing when I was writing my Fanatics sportsbook review, and I found that this is a totally legit place to bet.

New customers must place their first $5+ wager the day they sign up for an account, then one additional $5+ wager on each of the following nine days to claim the maximum bonus amount. No opt-in is necessary when placing the first wager, but users must opt-in each day after that by visiting the promos tab, scrolling to the new customer bonus, and selecting “opt-in.”

Qualifying wagers must be at least $5 and have odds of -200 or longer. For example, wagers placed at odds of -200, -110, +110, +250 would all qualify.

Fanatics bonus bets are not withdrawable, but customers may withdraw their net winnings at any time.

Additionally, winning wagers placed using bonus bets only return profits and not the initial stake. For example, if a bettor places a $20 wager using bonus bets at +200 odds and wins, the return is $40 and not $60 as it would be if they placed a cash wager. This is standard practice in the US sports betting industry.

Other than that, there aren’t any other significant restrictions. Bettors may use their bonus bets on any market and can withdraw their winnings immediately. They must use their bonus bets within seven days of receipt and cannot settle them using the early cashout feature. These are also standard industry practices.

Fanatics has yet to roll out many other promotions, except for some scattered odds boosts with $50 max limits. BettingUSA expects this to change as Fanatics ramps up its marketing, but details are sparse at this time.

Fanatics Sportsbook Loyalty Program: FanCash

Fanatics Sportsbook has launched a VIP loyalty program that may just offer better value than some more comprehensive and nuanced rewards systems.

All bettors earn FanCash on their real-money wagers. This virtual currency is the same credit issued to retail customers enrolled in the Fanatics MVP program.

Earn rates are as follows:

• 5% FanCash on same game parlays
• 3% FanCash on parlays
• 1% FanCash on straight bets and SGP/parlays made using an odds boost

FanCash can be redeemed for merchandise discounts on Fanatics.com or for bonus bets. The minimum redemption threshold for bonus bets is just $0.10. This is extremely refreshing considering most online sportsbooks only allow loyalty earnings to be redeemed in $1 or $5 increments.

Once issued, bonus bets can only be applied to one wager and must be used within 90 days. To get around this restriction, merely redeem your FanCash in increments you’re comfortable with.

Two points of note. The first is that Fanatics deserves credit for being semi-transparent about same game parlays and their massive house edge. The fact that SGPs award a bigger kickback than regular parlays clearly illustrates just how “juiced up” they really are.

Secondly, although the rewards seem minimal, they’re actually quite substantial relative to a bettor’s expected loss. To clarify, bettors who place straight bets usually give up about 4-5% to the house. Currently, there is no way to access the sportsbook from desktop or laptop computers.

Originally conceived as BetFanatics, Fanatics Sportsbooks has come a long way since it began beta testing. These days, bettors are treated to an app that is relatively polished, visually gratifying, and stocked with highly customizable quality-of-life features.

Fanatics is also highly responsive to user input and does a respectable job of streamlining the betting process. There isn’t much here that revolutionizes the online sports betting genre, but Fanatics gets a nod for a few unique innovations.

However, Fanatics Sportsbook doesn’t offer nearly as many betting markets as its fiercest competitors, and some of its design choices miss the mark. On top of that, there are a few glaring software bugs that greatly diminish the overall betting experience, and may hurt Fanatics’ bottom line if they’re not squashed.

The rest of this Fanatics Sportsbook review will examine each facet of its mobile app, including its betting markets, odds, interface, and special features.

Fanatics Sportsbook Betting Markets

Fanatics Sportsbook supports what can be best described as a fair number of sports markets. All the major professional leagues like the MLB, NFL, and NBA receive ample coverage, as do college basketball and football, but some international and niche sports are either covered sporadically or absent entirely.

Sports markets vary slightly by season, but these are the markets available at the time of this writing:

• Basketball (NBA, WNBA, and NCAAB)
• Football (NFL, NCAAF, and CFL)
• Motor Sports (NASCAR and F1)
• Table Tennis

Popular international sports like rugby and cricket are practically nowhere to be found, and the soccer betting menu only displays a few leagues. Fanatics Sportsbook doesn’t do much better when it comes to guilty pleasures like cycling, darts, handball, and snooker.

On the other hand, Fanatics boasts a very active tennis market and hangs a decent variety of bets for popular US pro and college sports. Admittedly, even the most fleshed-out betting markets still feel sparse compared to the industry’s biggest players, but at least a concerted effort is being made.

Fanatics Sportsbook offers the following bet types, in greater or lesser volume depending on the market:

• Moneylines : Two-way and three-way moneylines (where applicable) are offered
• Spreads : These markets include a healthy array of alternative spreads for major professional and collegiate sports
• Totals : Fanatics tends to offer as many alternative totals as alternative spreads
• Props : Game, props, and team props are available for major sports; less so for smaller markets
• Derivatives: Bettors can place wagers on the first five innings of an MLB game, or the 1st quarter/half of NBA and NFL games, among other partial game wagers
• Parlays : Bettors can stack several bets together from different games to form a parlay, or from a single game to create a same game parlay. Fanatics SGP menus are reasonably dense, offering everything from spreads, totals, game props, and player props.
• Futures : Fanatics offers futures on select sports, although the betting options are limited
• In-play : Bettors are treated to a suitable menu of in-play options, spanning props, main markets like spreads, and alternative lines. There’s even a limited capacity to create in-play SGPs.

At present, the two biggest omissions are teasers and round robins. Typically, these options can be selected from the bet slip, but on Fanatics they’re nowhere to be found.

Fanatics Sportsbook Betting Odds

Fanatics Sportsbook’s core platform and sports wagering system is powered by source code from Amelco. Previously, Amelco provided code for several now-defunct US sportsbooks, including FOX Bet, Fubo, PlayUP, and WynnBet. That may not be the most glowing resume, but these brands failed for reasons that extended beyond their platforms and betting odds.

Fanatics will receive a second data feed once its acquisition of PointsBet is complete, which should help to sharpen its sports betting tech even further. PointsBet is currently powered by Banach Technology, which it acquired for $43 million in 2021.

A cursory glance at Fanatics Sportsbook’s betting odds reveals pricing that is pretty much in line with industry standards. Fanatics does take its own positions at a greater clip than the average US sportsbook, but not by a significant margin.

The vigorish levied on most wagers is also aligned with the larger US sports betting industry. A few notable comparisons:

• The house edge on popular MLB main market bets like run lines, totals, and moneylines ran slightly higher on Fanatics compared to FanDuel and DraftKings, but lower than BetMGM
• Prop margins were roughly the same across the board compared to DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, and BetMGM, although Fanatics was a bit more prone to take positions on exotic markets
• Fanatics bettors will pay slightly higher taxes on NFL moneylines compared to most other major sportsbooks. However, point spreads and totals were priced at standard -110/-110 odds
• The vigorish on Super Bowl futures was 19.1%, and on NFC/AFC Conference Championship futures, it was 14.5%. In both cases, that’s considered better than average.

The one area where Fanatics Sportsbook really stood out was its NFL alternative lines. Not only does the app post more than 60+ early alt spreads and totals for every NFL game, but the house edge averages out to under 5%.

In short, Fanatics Sportsbook should be on every smart line shopper’s smartphone, if only because it takes minor positions on some lines and offers great betting odds on alternative lines.

Fanatics Sports Betting App

While there’s nothing particularly groundbreaking about the Fanatics Sportsbook app, it does challenge quite a few traditional development norms. In some cases, its ambitious design philosophy pays off, and in others, it falls short of the target.

The differences are apparent right from the get, starting with Fanatics’ extremely visual and unconventional homepage. Instead of merely listing odds for live and upcoming games of interest, the homepage weaves in banners and displays for odds boosts, promoted prop bets, futures markets, and marquee events.

Also, it appears that the homepage is suited to a bettor’s preferences. For instance, someone who constantly browses Premier League lines is more likely to see soccer markets listed above the fold. It’s certainly an innovative approach to sportsbook design and one that sports fans should appreciate, but it all feels too dizzying.

Furthermore, there simply aren’t enough lines posted on the homepage. Whereas other online sportsbooks may list 50-100 events, Fanatics tops out at about 20.

Bettors can access different betting markets from one of the many navigational bars scattered throughout the homepage, or more reliably, by tapping “Schedule.” From this page, betting odds are listed in a more traditional format. However, there are a few issues.

The first is that there’s no apparent way to display leagues in a condensed view. This isn’t a huge deal when it comes to markets like football and baseball, but for sports like soccer that span hundreds of leagues, pinpointing games can be frustrating.

On a more positive note, the app loads incredibly fast, lines update quickly, and the software is highly responsive to user input. The bet slip is a little glitchy but a simple patch should address any withstanding issues.

Fanatics Betting App: Special Features

Fanatics Sportsbook has integrated a few nuances into its app, that if fully realized, could eventually shape how others evolve their mobile betting platforms:

• Advanced search feature : From the homepage, bettors can search for leagues, teams, athletes, events, and promotions and place wagers directly from the search results. For instance, if a bettor types “Pete Alonso” into the search bar, they’ll get immediate access to all of his player props, as opposed to having to dig through various submenus and categories.
• Quick bets : Bettors can save three different “Quick Bet” sizes in their bet slips. From that point forward, they can simply tap on the bet size they’d like to use, and it’ll be instantly inputted into the wagering field. This proves a huge time saver for bettors who consistently use the same unit sizes.
• User customization : Not only does Fanatics Sportsbook use algorithms to personalize your homepage, but you can go to the account management section to customize your Quick Bet features, odds display, and notifications.
• Same Game Parlays : Popular SGPs were part of Fanatics Sportsbook’s launch product and are already well fleshed out. Eligible markets have an integrated SGP tab where bettors can easily piece together their wagers. Fanatics displays odds for all SGP legs, which is a nice touch that other sportsbooks would be nice to employ. Bettors can place SGPs one at a time or combine multiple SGPs from different games into “SGP Stacks.”
• Enhanced golf betting : Fanatics Sportsbook offers an in-play golf betting area where fans can see shot-by-shot data, view the tournament leaderboard, and explore course maps from within the app.

Fanatics Sportsbook In-Play Wagering

It’s fairly evident that Fanatics Sportsbook realizes the importance of providing a solid in-play experience. For major sporting events, in-play menus have as wide a scope as pregame markets.

Live betting lines update quickly, and the odds are generally in line with industry norms. For instance, if a pregame spread is listed at -110/-110 then the in-play line is usually just a tick higher, usually around -113/-113 to -115/-115. The extra juice is offset by market uncertainty.

As mentioned, there’s no way to exclusively access in-play markets, but most live games are listed from either the homepage or within individual market pages.

In order to keep up with the competition, Fanatics will need more in-play features. Right now, there are no microbetting options and bettors don’t have the ability to stream events or view advanced game stats from within the app. The ability to place granular bets on the outcome of the next at-bat in baseball, or next possession in basketball, and to view them unfolding in near real-time is quickly becoming industry standard.

Fanatics Sportsbook Customer Service

Fanatics Sportsbook offers a dedicated Help Center that’s well-fleshed out and intelligently categorized. Bettors should have no problem finding answers to the most queries. Help Center topics can be sorted by topic or by “Trending”.

BettingUSA found the latter option particularly helpful because it led us to the most common questions other bettors had about the app,

There’s also an option to chat with support. Upon initiating the chat option, customers will first have to navigate an automated system that was surprisingly helpful — a first for the sports betting industry. In addition, it was fairly easy to bypass the system and chat with an agent via live chat, send an email, or submit feedback.

The Fanatics Sportsbook Origin Story

Fanatics Sportsbook has been in the works for several years at a minimum. The earliest indication that removed all doubt occurred in June 2021, when Fanatics hired former FanDuel CEO Matt King as the head of Fanatics Betting & Gaming .

Fanatics also made a play at the New York sports betting market in 2021 by submitting a bid for one of the state’s nine online sportsbook licenses. The bid failed after New York regulators selected other operators that already have experience in the US market. However, Fanatics may get another crack at the New York market after completing its purchase of PointsBet, which has NY market access.

Fanatics Sportsbook has only ramped up its preparations since. In May 2022, Sports Business Journal reported that Fanatics had posted a LinkedIn note that included notices of 40 job openings at Fanatics Betting & Gaming. Later, Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin announced plans to sell his stake in Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment, the parent company of the 76ers and New Jersey Devils, because league rules prohibit team owners from operating sports betting platforms.

In October 2022, Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin said his company would offer online sports betting in every regulated US state except New York in time for the 2023 NFL season . Rubin has since walked that prediction back a bit, but he still says the company will be live in upwards of a dozen states by then.

Fanatics Sportsbook Acquires PointsBet US

In early 2022, rumors began swirling that Fanatics was considering buying and rebranding an established sports betting operator. Rubin initially denied the rumors when he stated :

 “We’ll grow organically and by M&A, but we’re not interested in any M&A in the US… In the US, the companies are losing so much money, they just aren’t attractive acquisition targets for us yet. Overseas, there’s much better businesses that could be interesting.”

However, the acquisition rumors persisted. One report indicated Fanatics was in talks to acquire competing online sportsbook Tipico , but talk of that deal faded without action.

Instead, Fanatics Sportsbook announced a $150 million deal with PointsBet to purchase the company’s US assets, including its sports betting and online casino operations. If approved by shareholders and regulators, the deal would grant Fanatics Sportsbook access to a sizable chunk of states with legal online sports betting via PointsBet’s existing market access agreements.

Just when sportsbooks were starting to feel the pressure of competition, Fanatics has launched what could be the biggest push from a new sportsbook since sports betting became legal in 2019.

Fanatics Sportsbook is the betting arm of the Fanatics company that is known for its team and player swag. The merchandise retailer purchased PointsBet Sportsbook for $225 million in July 2023, taking over their online presence in what could be up to 15 states at varying schedules of branding changes.

Fanatics has also bought in to sports card manufacturing with its acquisition of Topps in 2022.

As of Aug. 2023, Fanatics is live in four states — Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Tennessee — with more planned in the future.

Illinois and New Jersey have been rumored to have received or will be receiving an application for a license from Fanatics.

Despite the app for their sportsbook being in Beta testing in states where they’re not yet activated, Fanatics can be downloaded in all but five states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and Virginia.

Is Fanatics Sportsbook Legit?

Yes, Fanatics Sportsbook is legit. Its initial process is on par with current sportsbook operators. That means you can download, sign up, add funds, and wager with confidence.

Fanatics does not have any offers for No Sweat First Bets at this time.

Keep an eye out for it, though. The No Sweat First Bet is exactly what it sounds like: You sign up for the sportsbook, make your deposit and place your first bet. If it loses you’ll receive money — usually paid in bonus bets or site credit — equal to your stake, up to a maximum amount.

Fanatics Sportsbook No-Deposit Bonus

Fanatics Sportsbook Pre-Launch Offer

A majority of sportsbooks will have a pre-launch offer. New states will have a promotional period to sign up for what is usually a monetary bonus leading up to their launch date.

With only four states housing Fanatics Sportsbook at this time, any state with legal betting, or soon-to-be legal betting options, should monitor Fanatics for pre-launch offers.

Fanatics Sportsbook FanCash Promotion

The most prominent bonus for this app is Fanatics Sportsbook’s FanCash rewards . Users of the sportsbook can earn FanCash — which can be used on merchandise and any other Fanatics products — by placing specific wagers:

• Earn 5% FanCash on Single Game Parlays (SGPs)
• Earn 3% FanCash on Fanatics Parlay Bets
• Earn 1% FanCash on Straight Bets (Moneyline, Spread, etc.)

FanCash is earned no matter the outcome of your wager. Fanatics wants users to be able to take their FanCash and explore everything they have to offer.

There are a few instances where you will not earn FanCash. When placing a Futures bet, you will only receive FanCash when the wager is complete, so no FanCash on a wager placed in April that has an expected end date of October.

The same applies to pre-match betting (straight bets, parlays, SGPs). Your FanCash will show up in your account once the wager is complete.

Other Fanatics Sportsbook Promotions

Odds boosts.

Sportsbooks will offer line adjustments to engage users with bets that may not have the best odds but, with a boost, become more attractive.

Fanatics initially offers 1% FanCash for every odds boost wager. For example, if you place $10 on an odds-boost wager, you will receive $1 in FanCash.

Parlay Insurance

Another way to incentivize bettors is with parlay insurance. If your Fanatics parlay bet loses, or loses a certain amount of legs included, you get your wager back as a bonus bet.

This is one way to test your luck with adding one or two more legs to a parlay than normal, with less risk. This is a wager that could be on Fanatics Sportsbook.

Does Fanatics Sportsbook Have the Best Odds?

Fanatics Sportsbook has partnered with Amelco for software and odds. Amelco was most famously attached to FOX Bet before Fox Sports decided to shut down their betting platform.

Fanatics Sportsbook Pricing

When taking a look at Fanatics’ standard betting odds and lines, you see the adjustment for run lines and run totals based on the matchup (-110/+100 for closer matchups on both sides of spreads and totals , or -200/+150 for bigger favorites and underdogs as an example) and some better lines on moneyline bets.

Fanatics appears to remain in lock-step with the majority of books when it comes to setting lines, with instances of getting better odds (ranging from 5-15 cents when looking at MLB lines).

For moneyline bets , Fanatics appears to be set on being slightly different - for good and bad. This may seem like a moot point when thinking about your betting options, but this means that shopping at other books will be in play if you add Fanatics to your sportsbook rotation.

The stellar pricing doesn’t stop once the game starts. In-game odds are typically not as player friendly as pregame betting, but Fanatics does minimize the damage by sticking to 25-30 cent lines where other sportsbooks can go as high as 60 cent lines for ingame bets.

As far as prop betting prices , each book has their tendencies and Fanatics Sportsbook is no different. Nothing egregious, but nothing eye-popping at launch.

All of this will vary by sport, but Fanatics is much in line with other books on MLB as they launch. Time will tell if they vary their lines, and we’ll dutifully update our operator review when we accrue a larger sample size of play time.

Futures odds typically offer big payouts because it’s hard to accurately predict a season-long outcome so early.

How do betting odds work?

Odds always have a plus or minus symbol, then a number. The combination of symbols and numbers always tells you how much you would win. Let’s use two examples, starting with positive odds of +150.

Any odds with a “+” symbol indicate how much you’d win if you placed a $100 bet on that team. So, a bet of $100 on odds of +150 would pay you $150 in profit (plus your initial bet back). Because they pay better, positive odds are most often attached to teams that are less likely to win, according to the sportsbook’s trading team and algorithms.

2024 NBA Draft first round winners and losers: Lakers, Sixers on list

The first round of the 2024 NBA Draft is in the books.

Zaccharie Risacher from France went first overall to the Atlanta Hawks, with Alex Sarr, also of France, following at No. 2 to the Washington Wizards before Kentucky's Reed Sheppard went to the Houston Rockets at No. 3.

Elsewhere, UConn's Donovan Clingan went to the Portland Trail Blazers at No. 7 overall while the Chicago Bulls picked Matas Buzelis at No. 11 overall.

But while those picks feature some of the most prominent names of this class, there are others who could turn out to be better.

Let's analyze the 2024 draft with five winners and losers:

WINNER: Devin Carter, Sacramento Kings

Drafting players is all about getting their profiles right. Are they unique enough? Do they have room to grow and how much if so? Though the 2024 draft didn't have the most enticing talent available, Carter of Providence stood out early on .

Best looks from the first round of 2024 NBA Draft

The Providence guard measured at 6-foot-3 with a 6-foot-9 wingspan while making 37.7% of his 3-pointers on 6.6 attempts in his final year, hauled in 8.4 rebounds and has no issues guarding multiple positions, regardless of his size.

The Kings may already have several guards, most notably De'Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, Davion Mitchell and Keon Ellis, among others, but Carter is a Day 1 rotational player. For Sacramento, he can essentially be a better version of Mitchell since the former first-rounder hasn't developed much offensively.

At No. 13 overall, Carter could be tremendous value for a Kings squad hoping to bounce back into the playoffs next season.

LOSER: Ron Holland, Detroit Pistons

Let's make it clear: Holland is one of the better 3-and-D prospects in this class. But he doesn't feel like who the Pistons should've gone for at No. 5 overall.

At 18, he's one of the youngest players in the class with a 6-foot-6 frame and a 6-foot-11 wingspan. The G League Ignite product isn't a great spot-up shooter but can attack the basket with his slashing skills. There's plenty to like defensively, too, but the Pistons didn't need his profile.

With Cade Cunningham anchoring the team, Detroit hasn't done too well with surrounding him with floor spacers. Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren are prominent players who don't shoot the ball well, with Marcus Sasser and Isaiah Stewart providing the spacing. But Detroit needs more, as well as on-the-ball creators, to climb out of the bottom out East.

Holland doesn't really fix any of Detroit's needs for a top-five pick, even though he'll have his uses.

WINNER: Dalton Knecht, Los Angeles Lakers

For teams hoping to contend like the Lakers , older players in the draft aren't necessarily a bad thing. Knecht of Tennessee is 23 and is a multi-level scorer who converted 39.7% of 6.5 attempts per game from 3-point range.

He's not the best shot creator, but he can score in spot-up situations or off-balance, so he should fit well in several lineups that include LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

At 6-foot-5 with a 6-foot-9 wingspan, Knecht can connect the dots offensively even though there will be some concerns about him defensively. But he should also be a useful player for new head coach JJ Redick, who can certainly devise plays for him to help his acclimation process.

LOSER: Bronny James

After some buzz that Bronny James could be picked in the first round, he ended up not being called at all. The Lakers grabbed Knecht, as aforementioned, while the Phoenix Suns, another possibility, took Ryan Dunn out of Virginia at No. 27.

The 6-foot-2 guard has a 6-foot-7 wingspan with the potential to be a solid 3-point shooter, so he has the ability to be an impact 3-and-D guard early on. The intrigue will be on who selects him in the second round, if anyone does.

WINNER: Jared McCain, Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers have needed more players beyond Joel Embiid to create on their own. Tyrese Maxey has developed into a standout second option, with their newest draft pick potentially fitting the bill.

McCain, a point guard from Duke, is one of the better scorers in the draft. His 6-foot-2 frame with a 6-foot-3 wingspan has its woes, but he offsets it with efficient shooting numbers.

In his lone season as a Blue Devil, he recorded a 46/41/89 shooting split on 10.5/6/2.4 volume. He'll have a role to play off the Sixers bench, which could become robust value at No. 16 overall.

Honorable mentions

Could be a winner : Tidjane Salaün, Charlotte Hornets

With LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, Mark Williams and Tre Mann, the Hornets have promising youngsters at each position. Salaün, an 18-year-old from France, could fill the fourth spot. At 6-foot-9 with a 7-foot-2 wingspan, Salaün could develop into a solid stretch 4 if his 3-point shooting and on-the-ball abilities pan out.

Winner: France

Speaking of France, the European nation had the most first-round prospects behind the U.S. Risacher, Sarr, Salaün and Pacome Dadiet (No. 25 overall to the New York Knicks ) were the four off the board, though it won't be known how successful they will be until a few years down the line. Still, it's another sign the game is becoming more international.

The Brooklyn Nets traded guard Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

NEW YORK (AP) — Mikal Bridges is being traded by the Brooklyn Nets to the New York Knicks, where he will join Jalen Brunson and his other former Villanova teammates, two people with knowledge of the details said Tuesday.

The first trade between the New York rivals since 1983 will put Bridges in the lineup alongside Brunson, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo, players who helped the Wildcats win two NCAA championships and were the core of a Knicks lineup that reached the Eastern Conference semifinals last season.

The Knicks will pay big to get him, with ESPN reporting that they are sending Bojan Bogdanovic to the Nets along with four unprotected first-round picks and one protected pick. The deal was confirmed to The Associated Press under condition of anonymity because it is not yet official.

The Nets acquired Bridges from Phoenix in the deal for Kevin Durant in February 2023 and he went on to average 26.1 points the rest of that season in helping Brooklyn reach the playoffs. The swingman scored 19.6 per game in 2023-24 but the Nets slipped to 32-50 and missed the postseason.

And while his team was struggling, he couldn’t help but notice how much fun his friends were having just a few miles away. The Knicks signed Brunson in the summer of 2022, traded for Hart in the 2022-23 season and then signed DiVincenzo last summer, and reached the second round in both seasons.

The four players helped Villanova win the 2016 NCAA title, and Brunson, Bridges and DiVincenzo were still there when the Wildcats won again in 2018.

They clearly can’t wait to get the band back together.

“This is crazy lol,”  Bridges wrote on the social media platform X  after the deal was reported.

Hart posted a picture of what appeared to be the four players  smiling during a group video call.

The teams hadn’t made a deal since 1983, when the Nets were still in New Jersey and sent Len Elmore to New York for a future draft pick. This one gives Brooklyn more picks to build through the draft or package in further trades.

The Knicks had picks to move and have been looking to strengthen a team that has been on the rise. They were a game away from their first appearance in the Eastern Conference finals since 2000 last season despite losing a number of key players to injuries before and during the postseason.

Their new addition, on the other hand, doesn’t get hurt.

Bridges was the runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 and is currently the NBA’s most durable player, which should quickly make him a favorite of Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau. He has played in all 474 games in his career — and never missed a game in college, either — and led the league in minutes played in both 2021-22 and 2022-23.
