Slowly, the pandemic spread to various states and union territories including the state of Manipur. The first case was recorded in this region on 24 March 2020. [1] As of 5 June 2020, the total number of cases in Manipur was 157. There are 105 active cases and 52 have fully recovered from the virus. [2]
Here's how the pandemic has affected Manipur. India kicked off its vaccination programme in January this year with its two approved Covid vaccines — Covishield and Covaxin. Currently, anyone who is above the age of 18 is eligible to get vaccinated at any government or private vaccination center in the country.

When Covid-19 first knocked on the doors of Manipur, we were just realising how deadly the disease was in the first few months. Our limited health infrastructure wasn’t ready to bear the onslaught of the first wave of Covid-19. The State immediately went into a shut-open-shut mode of operation.
Following a severe wave of COVID-19 in India, MSF teams responded in Manipur state, providing treatment to patients and supporting the local health system.
The origin of the Education Department of Manipur dates back to 1903 when Rev. Pattigrew an educationist and a philanthropist became the first honorary inspector of schools under the Education Department of Assam. Prior to 1950 there was no separate Department of Education in Manipur.
The state is just the second in the Northeast to cross one lakh cumulative cases. Other warning signs suggest that the situation may only get worse.
