• Pay the fees in SBI Collect portal with the subject specific Application Number
• Login into the admission portal and click "take admission" button against the subject (for which you have paid the admission fees) and category under which you want to take admission.
• Fill up the form and upload the payment receipt and finalise the form.
• Admission acknowledgement and reporting slip will be generated after successful verification of payment. It may take 2-3 working days.
• Go through the notification before taking admission.
• Dates are to be followed strictly
• Upload Clear documents only.
• Candidate may cancel his/her admission after payment confirmation. Admission fee will be refunded following the Presidency University/UGC guidelines.

Presidency University PhD Admission 2024 (Feb) Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. program shall have a Master’s degree with at least 55% of marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade.
• A relaxation of 5% of marks or an equivalent relaxation of grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/ Person with Disability (PwD) as per UGC guidelines.
• UGC or UGC-CSIR NET/NET-LS qualified. ICMR-NET, DBT-BET qualified candidates are also eligible to apply for Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) only.

Selection Procedure

• All applicants are required to upload a research proposal within 500 words. Applicants may be shortlisted based on the research proposals/area of availability of guide in the proposed research areas.
• All eligible candidates will have to appear at an interview / test (online/offline mode), conducted by the Departmental Ph.D. Selection Committees of the University. In interview, the candidates will be expected to discuss their research interests.
• Following the admission procedure, a list of qualified candidates (preferably mentioning their areas of research interest(s) will be published and displayed by the University through the official website.
• Candidates selected for the Ph.D. Programme will be attached to the respective Department at the time of their provisional admission and will be required to enroll on payment of a non-refundable fee, determined by the University.

Yale University has tabbed Stony Brook's Maurie McInnis to be its next president.

Yale University has appointed Maurie McInnis, currently the president of Stony Brook University, to be its 24th president, succeeding Peter Salovey, who is returning to the faculty after 11 years at Yale’s helm. She will begin her presidential duties on July 1.

In a message to the Yale community, Josh Bekenstein, senior trustee and chair of the presidential search committee, described McInnis as “a compelling leader, distinguished scholar, and devoted educator, she brings to the role a deep understanding of higher education and an unwavering commitment to our mission and academic priorities. Her experience and accomplishments over the past three decades have prepared her to lead Yale in the years ahead.”

Bekenstein said that 128 individuals had been nominated for the position, adding that “the search committee was excited by a leader who brought new perspectives from around the country and cared deeply about the best of Yale’s traditions.”

McInnis earned her BA in art history in 1988 from the University of Virginia and her master’s degree and PhD in the history of art from Yale University in 1990 and 1996, respectively.

Prior to becoming the president at Stony Brook in 2020, she served as vice provost for academic affairs at the University of Virginia, where over the course of almost 20 years, she held various academic leadership and administrative appointments, including vice provost for academic affairs, associate dean for undergraduate education programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, and director of American Studies.

She was also a professor of art history at Virginia, where her scholarship focused on the cultural and political history of American art in the colonial and antebellum south.

From the University of Virginia she went to the University of Texas at Austin where she was the provost from 2016 to 2020.

In 2022, McInnis became a Yale trustee. Earlier this year, the Yale Daily News reported that she was a candidate for the Yale presidency.

In her message to the campus, McInnis wrote, “When I stepped onto our campus as a graduate student in the Department of the History of Art thirty-five years ago, I was welcomed into a community that valued curiosity, connection, excellence, and impact. Faculty members, fellow students, staff, and alumni fostered curiosity, encouraged connections between people and academic disciplines, and challenged one another to not only excel in our fields, but also to apply our abilities in improving the world. Those qualities shaped my life and career as I became an educator and art historian and took on leadership roles at universities, and they are the reasons I am excited and eager to return to Yale and New Haven as the next president of our university.”

She said at the top of her list of priorities was “to reconnect with those I know and to meet so many more of you. You make this university what it is. The community environment that brought me to Yale was created by those who came before us and has been sustained and enriched by all of us.”

Salovey praised the selection, writing to the Yale Daily News , “It is wonderful to know that Yale will be led by an alumna who has embraced our university’s values and aspirations. In all her leadership positions, she has championed students and faculty members, opening new avenues for teaching, research, and scholarship. I look forward to supporting Maurie in a role that has meant so much to me.”

McInnis assumes her new presidency at a time when colleges and universities across the nation have been engulfed in controversy, including debates about their admission practices, pressures from donors and legislators over campus antisemitism and other concerns, and student protests over the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. McInnis has recently faced her own challenges at Stony Brook, where a proposed censure of her over the arrests of campus protesters was narrowly rejected by the Stony Brook Faculty Senate.

How Saying “Yes” Changed Everything for Ashmita Ahluwalia

Ashmita Ahluwalia grew up so shy that even raising her hand in class felt like a humongous task, but despite this, she graduated from Newark Memorial High School with top marks. "I didn't realize how much I missed out on throughout my high school experience until I got involved in my senior year." Her shyness often hindered her from fully embracing the opportunities presented to her at school.

Despite her reservations, Ashmita deliberately chose to attend Cal State East Bay, drawn by its proximity to home, the legacy it held within her family and its offering of her desired major in Human Resources. Ashmita had decided that her time at East Bay would be different and that she would be more involved than she ever was in high school. She wanted to take that step out of her comfort zone finally, and her way of doing that was just saying yes to every opportunity that came her way. From joining Alpha Phi to Delta Sigma Pi, she wanted to unlock the potential she was holding back, and through the experiences she gained in these clubs, she started to speak out more. She was eventually elected as Alpha Phi’s Assistant Director of Marketing. 

As a member of Alpha Phi, Ashmita initially felt some hesitation about being part of a sorority that seemed to favor extroversion. However, as time passed, she became more invested in the sorority’s activities, which gradually spilled over into her academics. The more she got involved, the more Ashmita noticed a significant shift in her demeanor. Her shyness no longer confined her, and she began to actively engage with her classmates, confidently speaking up during class discussions and even taking the initiative to organize gatherings on campus. Newfound confidence led to her to eventually run as Associated Student Incorporated (ASI) President. “Serving as ASI’s President allowed me to find my passion for advocacy which is a field I would’ve never envisioned myself in otherwise.”

During her high school years, whilst working at Starbucks, Ashmita met Kabir Dhillon, a former Executive Vice President of ASI at Cal State East Bay. Dhillon’s passion for ASI sparked Ashmita's interest in student government, which she saw as an opportunity to immerse herself in a diverse community and make a meaningful impact. This encounter led her to join ASI in the summer of 2019 as a First-Year Intern and Director of Wellness in 2021.

Her roles proved pivotal in shaping her decision to run for President because it inspired her to work on addressing mental and physical health issues on campus. Ashmita saw the potential to affect even more significant change. “Through advocating for students, I discovered a deeper understanding of myself and the power of standing up for what matters." A powerful statement and platform to run. In May of 2022, Ashmita became ASI President/CEO and already had ambitious goals to revitalize student life and foster the sense of community Cal State East Bay was lacking. She envisioned ASI as a platform for career guidance and a hub for student engagement, striving to make it a presence throughout campus. Accessibility was paramount to her leadership, as she committed herself to being constantly available and responsive to student concerns.

I checked in with Ashmita one year after she graduated from Cal State East Bay. Today, she is working at Lockheed Martin, a global aerospace and defense company, as a recruiter focusing on attracting women in STEM and aviation roles. Reflecting on her time on campus, it is clear that those four years changed her for the better. "Leaving East Bay, I felt more confident and well-rounded than when I entered.” 

Ashmita Ahluwalia's journey from high school to Cal State East Bay to clubs to the presidency is a testament to the power of stepping outside one's comfort zone. Her story is about overcoming shyness, embracing new experiences and advocating for change. Her guiding principle, 'say yes to as much as you can', is a powerful reminder about the importance of trying new things and challenging yourself to grow as an individual.
