Sapienza University of Rome published a call for pre-selection for postgraduate PhD positions with scholarships fund by China Scholarship Council . Italian Government Scholarship 2024 (Application Process)

Start your study adventure in Italy. Good news! Applications for Italian Government Scholarship 2022 are currently open. In this article, we will explain about this scholarship, its benefits and step by step application procedure.

Italian Government Scholarship 2024-2025 is a fully funded scholarship for international students to pursue masters or PhD at the top Italian Universities. This scholarship covers monthly payments of 900 euros, tuition fee and medical insurance.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) intend to promote scientific and technological cooperation, international cultural, Italian language and culture and to support Italy’s economic system in the world (According to Law 288/55 and its subsequent changes and additions). Scholarships are offered to undertake study, training, and/or research programs at Italian Higher Education Institutes, both public and legally recognized.

With 61 vibrant public universities, 30 private universities and 11 public research organizations, groundbreaking university programs, AFAM (Centers for higher artistic education) and 339 courses held in English,  Italy will teach you more than Italian.

Scholarship Description

• Level of Study:  Masters/PhD
• Institution(s):  Italian Higher Education Institutes
• Study in: Italy
• Offered Courses: It is possible to apply for every course organized by Universities recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR). In any case, it is up to the applicant to verify directly with the chosen university the existence of course.
• Program Period: The scholarship duration can be three, six, or nine months depending on the type of course.
• Deadline: June 9, 202 4 (currently closed)

Scholarship Coverage

Italian Government Scholarship provide the recipient with the following benefits:

• Health and Medical Insurance Grantees will be covered by a health and medical/accident insurance contracted by MAECI for the entire duration of the grant. Insurance coverage will not apply to events derived from pre-existing physical and pathological conditions.
• Tuition Fees Grantees may be exempted from the payment of enrollment and tuition fees depending on the policy of each University. Exemption is not granted for courses in Italian language and culture, for which enrollment fees are due.
• Financial Grant Grantees will receive a 900 Euros monthly allowance on a quarterly basis, which will be paid on their Italian bank account.

Eligibility Criteria for Italian Government Scholarship

Following is the eligibility criteria for Italian Government Scholarship for International Students:

• Required Language: English
• Eligible Countries:  Students from  eligible foreign countries
• Applicants for Master’s Degree/Higher Education in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM) Programs/ Italian Language and Culture Courses should not be over 28 years old by the deadline of this call, with the sole exception of renewals.
• Applications must only be submitted by foreign students not residing in Italy.
• Applicants for PhD Programs should not be over 30 years old by the deadline of this call, with the sole exception of renewals.
• Proof of proficiency in Italian is not required for courses entirely taught in English.
• Applicants for Research Projects under academic supervision should not be over 40 years old by the deadline of this call.
• In this case, applicants must provide a language certificate of their proficiency in English Language. The minimum level required is B2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
• Admission to the first year of a Master’s Degree course in Italy requires the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in the applicants’ country of origin; admission to the second year is granted to applicants upon evidence to be on track with their first year studies.
• For Italian language and culture courses, applicants must provide a certificate of their proficiency in Italian language. The minimum level required is A2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
• To be admitted to an Italian AFAM Institute, applicants need to meet the entry requirements and academic qualifications established by the relevant University/Institute.
• To be admitted to a PhD in Italy, applicants need to meet the entry requirements and academic qualifications established by the University; they are also required to provide a letter of acceptance on behalf of the relevant Italian University.
• For a research under academic supervision grants can be awarded to research projects carried out at the Italian Research Institutions (i.e Italian Research Council – CNR, Italian National Institute of Health – ISS, Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics – INFN, Italian National Institute for Astrophysics – INAF, The Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research – ISPRA) under the academic supervision of public Universities or Museums and Archives.

How to apply for a PhD programme

PhD Programmes attendance at the University of Bologna is conditional upon passing an examination. The provisions governing the selection procedure are laid down in the Call for applications and its attachments.

Who can apply

• a graduate (second-cycle degree or single-cycle degree programme) of the University of Bologna or of another Italian or foreign university.
• an undergraduate (second-cycle degree or single-cycle degree programme) of the University of Bologna or of another Italian or foreign university and will graduate by the starting date of the PhD programme.

The new Call for Applications for the admission in the PhD programmes [.pdf 758 KB]  - A.Y. 2024/2025 is now open . Applications may be submitted before June 17th, 2024 at midnight .

The  Call for Applications for the admission in the PhD programmes in Economics, Management, Political and Social Sciences [.pdf 706 KB]  - A.Y. 2024/2025 has expired. It is not possible to submit your application anymore. Selection procedures are now in progress. If you have already submitted your application, you can follow the selection process on your Studenti Online personal page. The final ranking list will be published on the specific webpage of the PhD programme.

A new Call for applications for further PhD positions funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) will be published in July 2024. The new Call will only concern  PhD programmes for which further positions become available .

Before applying

The application must be submitted using the Studenti Online website only . If you are using it for the first time, you will be required to register submitting your personal data.

If you are registered in Studenti Online , you can use the credentials you are already in possession of. If the credentials have not been used for a long time, an account recovery procedure is available on the University website.

Keep in mind that who has participated even once to a selection procedure or has been enrolled in an academic programme at the University of Bologna, is already in possession of the credentials [email protected] . A new registration with the same anagraphic data will not be possible . In this case, the recovery procedure of the previous credentials is required. It is therefore advisable to start your application process well in advance of the deadline .

• Select "Admission application", then "PhD programme" and "Next"
• Select the PhD programme you intend to apply for
• Fill in the online application form and upload the documents
• Remember to pay the €5 admission fee, before the deadline, using the PagoPA system only ( check the Pago PA system user manual [.pdf 314 KB] ).
• Click on "Submit"

Applications that have been filled in but not submitted by the deadline of the call will be rejected.

Other opportunities

For the A.Y. 2024/2025 a new Call for Applications for the admission in the International PhD College will be published. The Call will be addressed to particularly motivated and deserving students successfully admitted to a PhD programme among those of the 40th cycle offered by the University of Bologna.

The International PhD College (I-PHD) is a community of Italian and international PhD students from different study areas and represents the third cycle degree programme of the Collegio Superiore – University of Bologna. PhD students joining the International PhD College may be assigned a contribution for accomodation and must integrate the research activity required by their PhD programmes with interdisciplinary and international training and “coworking” activities on crosscutting themes.

Extra-quota positions

If you’ve been awarded a scholarship funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation MAECI  or by other Institutions in your Country of origin, and you’ve successfully passed the selection procedure as an eligible applicant, you shall be entitled to an extra-quota position. In order to obtain this possibility, please, submit an official document attesting your scholarship awarding.

ITALY: CALL FOR PROSPECTIVE PhD STUDENT APPLICATIONS. Academic Year 2022/2023 - 38th Cycle

DEADLINE: 25th August 2022

Sapienza University of Rome announces the exam-based open call for admission to the 38th cycle of PhD programmes. The  Annex A  indicates the list of the PhD Programmes, including potential curricula; the number of the available positions, with and without scholarship; the type of the admission procedures; as well as the denomination of the PhD School they are part of, in case they belong to any specific PhD School. 

Annex A indicates the website of each PhD programme reporting the admission procedure and evaluation criteria.

The candidates, when submitting their application, must declare for which PhD scholarship(s) they intend to apply for, expressing their preferences in order of priority.

It will not be possible to award a scholarship of any of the types listed below that the candidates have not explicitly selected.

A. Rome Technopole/National Centre Doctoral Scholarships - Ministerial Decree 351 (Type A)

The scholarships referred to in this paragraph provide for:

• a period of study and research in companies, public administrations or research centres, including museums, institutes of the Ministry of Culture, archives, libraries, as indicated in DM 351/2022, from a minimum of six (6) months to a maximum of twelve (12) months, as well as periods of study and research abroad from a minimum of six (6) months to a maximum of eighteen (18) months;
• an increased amount in favour of the doctoral candidate of €15,000.00 gross all-inclusive over the three-year period with respect to the value of the scholarship referred to in Article 13 below;
• the restriction to a research topic consistent with both the specific project within the Rome Technopole or National Centre project and with  Ministerial Decree 351/22 ;
• periodic reporting of the activities carried out (periodic scientific report and time sheet);
• the commitment to publish at least 1 scientific article in a journal of high scientific quality (or patent or other high-quality research product) on topics related to the topic referred to in point c);
• a commitment to collaborate with project partners (organisations, institutions and enterprises) and to coordination with the Sapienza working group coordinated by the Sapienza scientific referee of the specific Rome Technopole/National Centre project.

The successful candidate of the scholarship referred to in this paragraph must, on a quarterly basis produce through the appropriate online platform ( http://dottorati.miur.it ) a report containing an indication of the time commitment (broken down into months in the company, at the headquarters, abroad, if envisaged), and a summary of the main activities carried out by the candidate for validation by the scientific coordination of the Rome Technopole or National Centre project.

This scholarship may only be awarded to candidates who rank within the first 50% of the places in the ranking list.

B. Rome Technopole/National Centre Doctoral Scholarships - Sapienza (Type B)

• the restriction to a research topic consistent with both the specific project within the Rome Technopole or National Centre project;

C. Doctoral Scholarships ex D.M. 351 (Type C)

The scholarships referred to in this paragraph provide for a period of study and research in enterprises, public administrations or research centres, including museums, institutes of the Ministry of Culture archives, libraries as indicated in  Ministerial Decree 351/2022 , from a minimum of six (6) months to a maximum of twelve (12) months as well as periods of study and research abroad from a minimum of six (6) months to a maximum of eighteen (18) months. Exceptions are doctoral scholarships pursuant to Ministerial Decree 351 relating to PNRR PhD Programmes for which only the study and research period is mandatory research abroad from a minimum of six (6) months to a maximum of eighteen (18) months.

The successful candidate of the scholarship referred to in this paragraph must, on a six-monthly basis produce through the appropriate online platform ( http://dottorati.miur.it ) a report containing an indication of the time commitment (broken down into months in the company, on site, abroad, if planned) and a summary of the main activities carried out.

D. Doctoral Scholarships ex D.M. 352 (Type D)

The scholarships referred to in this paragraph provide for a period of study and research in the company from a minimum of six (6) months to a maximum of eighteen (18) months, and periods of study and research abroad from a minimum of six (6) months to a maximum of eighteen (18) months, as indicated in  Ministerial Decree 351/2022 .

The successful candidate of the scholarship referred to in this paragraph must, every six months produce through the appropriate online platform ( http://dottorati.miur.it ) a report containing an indication of the time commitment (broken down in months in the company, on site, abroad, if planned) and a summary of the main activities carried out.

E. Doctoral Scholarships Infrastructure (Type E)

The scholarships referred to in this paragraph provide for the doctoral thesis to be carried out in the context of projects linked to European research infrastructures and funded under the PNRR notice "Strengthening and Creation of Research Infrastructures", in particular the research activities shall will take place in one of the following 3 projects: EBRAINS-Italy, METROFOOD-IT, SoBigData.

F. Doctoral Scholarships Funded by Third-Party Entities (Type F)

The scholarships referred to in this paragraph are funded by public or private bodies, departments or other universities, some with restricted subject matter requested by the funding body.

G. Sapienza Doctoral Scholarships (Type G) 

The scholarships referred to in this paragraph are fully funded by Sapienza in accordance with the provisions of  Ministerial Decree 351/2022  and the  General University Regulations in matter of PhDs .

What is funded

The fellowship amounts to € 16.243,00 gross per year and it is paid on a monthly basis and includes National Insurance Contributions (INPS) which fellowship recipients are required to pay.

Rome Technopole/National Centre Doctoral Scholarships - Ministerial Decree 351 ( Type A Scholarships ) and Rome Technopole/National Centre Doctoral Scholarships - Sapienza (Type B) have an increased amount in favour of the doctoral candidate of €15,000.00 gross all-inclusive over the three-year period with respect to the value of the scholarship.

The frequency of payment of the scholarship is monthly. The amount is increased by up to 50% for any authorised periods of research spent abroad for a maximum of 12 months; the amount is increased for a maximum of 18 months for doctoral students who start a joint thesis supervision agreement with Sapienza and a foreign institution.

Within the financial resources existing in the budget, each PhD student is ensured a budget for research activity in Italy and abroad that is adequate for the type of course and in any case for an amount not less than 10% of the scholarship amount. If the PhD student with a scholarship is not assessed positively for the purposes of admission to the following year and is therefore excluded from the PhD or irrevocably renounces the scholarship, the residual amount can be used according to the procedures set out in the University Regulations for PhD Programmes.

The gross annual taxable income limit to be eligible for the PhD scholarship is set at € 16,243.00 - excluding the scholarship. The cases of total or partial incompatibility for the use of the scholarship are established by current legislation. In particular, scholarship cannot be combined with research grants or other scholarships awarded for any reason, except with those granted by national or foreign institutions useful for integrating, with stays abroad, the activity of training or research of fellows and with funding from the MIUR Youth Fund.

In case of incompatibility, students will have to reimburse the amount of money unduly received. Reimbursements refer to an academic year or fraction thereof. Students cannot be awarded the doctoral scholarship twice.

PhD programmes last three years.

Eligibility

Applications are accepted from candidates, regardless of gender, age and nationality, who hold an Italian laurea specialistica, laurea magistrale or any equivalent academic second-level degree issued by Artistic and Musical High Education institutions (AFAM) or any equivalent academic degree obtained abroad. Applications are also accepted from candidates who expect to receive their degree by October 31 st , 2022. Candidates who do not hold their degree at the time of the application are admitted “with reserve” until they obtain it. 

The Examination Board will ascertain the equivalence of each academic degree obtained abroad to the relevant Italian degree for the sole purpose of this call, or in the frame of inter-university cooperation and mobility agreements.

Admission is conditional to reception of relevant degrees by the indicated deadline (October 31 st , 2022).

Students currently enrolled without a scholarship can participate to competitive exams for the same PhD Programme they are already attending, but, if admitted, they cannot enrol unless they formally resign their doctoral position with the relevant Doctorate Committee. 

Those who already hold a PhD are allowed to enrol, upon successfully passing the admission tests, another PhD Programme without scholarship (if they have been already granted one in the previous PhD), provided that topics and main scientific sectors are different from those related to the already obtained PhD.

Applications

The application must be completed by August 25 th , 2022, at 2.00 p.m. (Italian time). 

In order to apply, candidates must  register  and  login  on Infostud and click on “PhD Programmes”, and follow the instructions. 

The payment of the examination fee is available through the Pago PA system which is accessed directly from the application. The fee must be paid by August 25 th , 2022, at 11.59 p.m. (Italian time). No payment made after the deadline will be considered valid. 

The application is correctly submitted only if the system displays the message “pagamento effettuato/fee paid and the symbol ✓ appears under “pagamento/payment” and “documenti/documents”. 

Any claims related to malfunctioning of the informatics system in close proximity to the deadline will not be accepted; candidates are recommended to complete the application sufficiently in advance in order to allow the office in charge to guarantee any necessary support.

Please note that the paper copy of the application form and of the bank payment must not be delivered to the PhD office. Applications that are not submitted as described herein will be rejected.

Please note that the University will check the veracity of the self-statements presented by the candidate. If the control ascertains the falsity of the declarations, the candidate will be excluded from taking the admission test or, if in the list of nominees will be declared lapsed, without prejudice to the criminal prosecution as for art. 76 of the law n. 445/2000.

In order to submit an application, candidates with a foreign academic degree must also submit:

• Candidates with an EU academic degree:  Self-declaration affidavit with signature (“dichiarazione sostitutiva di certificazione e/o dell’atto di notorietà” according to art. 46 and art. 47 of D.P.R. 445/2000) of academic degree with a full list of exams and grades, in Italian or English.
• Candidates with a non-EU academic degree:  a legalized translation of the academic degree into English or Italian with a full list of all exams and grades obtained.

Applications lacking any of these documents will be rejected.

Foreign candidates holding a non-Italian degree who do not plan or need to request a scholarship may apply for a PhD position, not covered by a grant, as a supernumerary student (Admission as Supernumerary students). Up to one third of the positions assigned to each PhD Programme are reserved to supernumerary foreign students, with separate rankings.

For this purpose, candidates have to specify in the application form, as described in art. 3, their intention to be admitted as supernumerary students, by selecting the option in the field (art. 5 cittadini stranieri con titolo estero - Foreign candidates holding a non-Italian degree).

The new call for applications is online. Deadline: 14 June 2024 at 14:00 (Rome). 

Every year the Italian Government offers some scholarships for students wishing to complete or perfect their studies in Italy. The call for application for the 2024/2025 academic year is now online. For more info, you can check the call (available in Italian and English ) but you will find the main points summarised below. Check the Study in Italy portal for further information and resources.

Who can apply?

• Foreign citizens.

Italians residing in Latvia cannot apply for this kind of scholarships.

Which courses are eligible for a scholarship?

• Master’s Degree courses.
• Courses of higher education in Arts, Music and Dance (AFAM).
• PhD programs.
• Research projects under academic supervision.
• Italian language and culture advanced courses.

Courses need to take place onsite in Italy and in public or legally recognised Italian educational instutions.

What are the requirements to apply?

• If you are applying for a scholarship for a Master’s Degree course : you need to be under the age of 28 by the deadline of the call; B2 level knowledge of Italian language or English language, according to which language is your course taught in; appropriate academic qualification required to enroll in the course of your choice. In your application you will need to mention the university and the course you have chosen. If the course you have chosen requires the passing of an admission test, you need to be pre-enrolled through the Study in Italy portal.
• If you are applying for a scholarship for an AFAM course : you need to be under the age of 28 by the deadline of the call; B2 level knowledge of Italian language or English language, according to which language is your course taught in; appropriate academic qualification required to enroll in the course of your choice. In your application you will need to mention the institution and the course you have chosen. If the course you have chosen requires the passing of an admission test, you need to be pre-enrolled through the Study in Italy portal.
• If you are applying for a scholarship for a PhD program : you need to be under the age of 30 by the deadline of the call; appropriate academic qualification required to enroll in the program of your choice. In your application you will need to include a copy of your academic qualifications and the acceptance letter to the PhD program issued by the Italian university.
• If you are applying for a research project under academic supervision : you need to be under the age of 40 by the deadline of the call. In your application you will need to include your research project with the contacts of your academic tutor and the acceptance or invitation letter issued by the Italian hosting university.
• If you are applying for an Italian language and culture advanced course : you need to be under the age of 28 by the deadline of the call; A2 level knowledge of Italian language. In your application you will need to mention the institution and the course you have chosen.

Language knowledge must be proved by a language certificate. Please check Art. 2.3 in the Call for full details.

In your application you will need to include a scanned copy of your ID card or passport.

What’s the value of the scholarship?

• For Master’s degree courses , AFAM courses , PhD programs and research projects : scholarships consists of 9 months and have a total value of 9.000 euros.
• For Italian language and culture advanced courses : scholarships consists of 3 months and have a total value of 3.000 euros.

You’ll come across 2 main types of financial aid in Italy: government scholarships for foreign students and scholarships sponsored by a specific university . These scholarships also differ in the amount they offer and whether they cover accommodation expenses.

Can I study for free in Italy?

The short answer is yes. But, that means beating a whole lot of competition as the number of spots for fully-funded scholarships in Italy is limited.

If you were granted only a partial scholarship grant, you can still find ways that’d help you cover the rest of your expenses of studying abroad.

For example, you can get a work-study job at your institution, find a part-time job in your city, or get a paid internship .

What’s the DSU scholarship in Italy?

DSU (' Diritto allo Studio Universitario ' translates as 'Right to University Education') refers to financial aid benefits that are defined annually by the region where a university is located.

Many universities such as Politecnico di Milano, University of Pisa and University of Milano have such a program.

The amount of the scholarship is calculated based on your income bracket (financial situation) and geographic origin.

The benefits of DSU scholarships in Italy include:

• monetary compensation
• catering services
• residence services

How can I prove my financial situation?

For some Italian scholarships, European students are asked to provide an ISEE certificate to declare their financial status. You can simply request it from the INPS website .

However, if your family's income and assets are abroad , you can’t be issued an ISEE. So, instead, you must request its equivalent called ISEE-U Parificato.

“ To do this, you can contact the CAF (fiscal assistance centre) affiliated with the university you’re applying to and they’ll issue your certificate. ”

Be ready to send documents on incomes, properties and financial assets for each member of your family. These documents must be issued by the competent offices in your country and translated and legalised according to the applicable regulations that differ from country to country.

2. EDISU Piemonte scholarships

If you're planning to study in EDISU Piemonte, be sure to check out their available scholarships !

International students enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree , Master’s degree , single cycle master’s degree, or PhD courses at one of the Universities of Piedmont such as the Politecnico of Torino and the University of Torino.

The scholarship amount depends on your type of enrolment and residency.

You can get assistance with your accommodation as well as a monetary award with the maximum of €5,108 and an exemption from enrolment and tuition fees.

EDISU Piemonte Scholarships distinguish between 2 types of requirements: merit-based and economic.

According to merit requirements, you must be regularly enrolled and earn a certain amount of credits , depending on your program.

Further, your economic situation is evaluated based on ISEE Parificato financial certificate .

Each study grant is awarded for one academic year and amounts to a total of €11,000 and full tuition fee waivers.

• Take SAT or TOLC test if applying for first or single cycle degree programmes, or
• GRE test if registering in a second cycle degree programme, and
• Be younger that 30 years.

4. Bocconi Merit and International Awards

International students enrolling in AY 2023-2024 Bachelors or Master of Science or Law program in Bocconi University.

Bachelor's students are eligible for the Bocconi Merit Awards and the Bocconi International Awards.

Master's students of science can apply for the Bocconi Graduate Merit Awards and the Bocconi International Awards Graduate.

The International scholarships offer 50% reduction of the tuition fee .

The Merit scholarships offer tuition fee waivers approximately between €13,000 (for Bachelor's) and €12,000 (Master's).

Italian Government Scholarship Details:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI) has made the call for applications for the 2024 Italian Government Scholarship.

The winners of a MAECI scholarship, based on the starting date of the grant and the number of months indicated in the “Dichiarazione di assegnazione di borsa di studio” (Awarding Letter), will receive a monthly amount of 900 euros .

Grants are offered to complete study courses and research/training programs in public or legally recognized Italian educational institutions.

Italian Government Scholarship Requirements:

To be considered for the Italian Government Scholarship, applicants must;

• send their applications exclusively through the Study in Italy portal.
• be in possession of a valid passport or identity card.
• upload a legible photocopy of the document at the time of registration, under penalty of exclusion.
• be in possession of the following requirements by the deadline date of the call (June 9 th  2023, 2.00 pm CET):

Academic qualifications

• Applications must only be submitted by foreign and Italian students living abroad
• Applicants should hold an appropriate academic qualification required to enroll to the Italian University/Institute .

Age requirements

• Applicants for  Master’s Degree/Higher Education in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM) Programmes/ Italian Language and Culture advanced Courses  should have attained the age of majority and shall 
• not exceed the age of  28 years by the deadline of this call, with the sole exception of renewals.
• Applicants for  PhD Programmes  should have attained the age of majority and shall not exceed the age of  30 years by the deadline of this call, with the sole exception of renewals.
• Applicants for  Research Projects under academic supervision  should have attained the age of majority and shall not exceed the age of  40 years by the deadline of this call.

The Italian Government Scholarship will cover:

Versione italiana

The University of Padua offers 59  scholarships to highly talented prospective students wishing to pursue a Bachelor's or Master's degree completely held in English in Padua . The scholarship programme is highly selective. Only candidates showing the highest achievements and school / academic records may receive a scholarship. Successful scholars will be expected to fulfil an ambassadorial role and represent the University at a number of events.

Amount of scholarship : fee-waiver + € 8,000  scholarship (gross amount) per each academic year. The only amount to be paid by beneficiary students for each year consists of an admission fee, corresponding to the regional tax and  marca da bollo .

Duration:  the Padua International Excellence Scholarship has a maximum duration of:

• 2 continuous years for Master’s degree candidates;
• 3 continuous years for Bachelor’s and Single-Cycle degree candidates.

After the duration indicated above, beneficiary students will be required to cover their own expenses as well as tuition fees until graduation.

Who can apply : highly talented prospective international students from all over the world wishing to enrol in one of University of Padua  Bachelor's  or  Master's degrees completely held in English .

How to apply:  you can be considered for the selection procedure, under penalty of exclusion, if you meet the requirements below.

• Do not possess an Italian citizenship (except for dual citizenship including Italian);
• hold a non-Italian foreign secondary school diploma (for Bachelor's or Single-cycle degrees applicants) or a non-Italian Bachelor's degree (for Master's degrees applicants) allowing admission to the Italian University system;
• do not reside in Italy;
• apply to one or more of the abovementioned degree programmes completely taught in English at the University of Padua. Please remember that you can apply up to  3  degree programmes.

If you meet these requirements, you will be automatically considered for the selection procedure.  There is no separate application or additional specific documents to be submitted besides those required to apply for the selected degree programme.

Selection criteria : the Academic Commitee of each degree programme shortlists eligible applicants and awards the most deserving candidates the scholarships, based on academic excellence in their field of study, quality, and records from their prior learning.

Selection results : Scholarships are reserved for candidates applying for the first application period; on an exceptional basis, the Academic Committees may decide to award the scholarship to eligible candidates of the second application period. 

Scholarships selection results will be published at  www.unipd.it/en/assessement-results according to the timeline indicated in the  Call for applications .

Acceptance : if you are offered a Padua International Excellence scholarship you will receive a  Padua International Excellence scholarship offer  indicating the procedure and the deadline to accept it. To receive the scholarship, you must not benefit from other grants and be able to comply with the conditions to finalise your enrolment at the University of Padua. You will receive the first instalment upon your arrival in Padua. The merit conditions required to maintain the scholarship are detailed in the Call for applications.

Payments arrangements and maintenance requirements : the scholarship  will be paid in two (2) instalments of  €4,000 (gross amount) each per academic year upon achievement of the merit requirements indicated in the Call for applications.

Revocation : the University of Padua will revoke your scholarship if:

• you do not obtain at least 20 ECTS by 30th November of the following a.y.
• you decide to transfer to another University or withdraw from your studies.

In the above cases, you shall refund the amount of the scholarship already received.

111 PhD Full Scholarships in All Research Fields at University of Verona in Italy – Open to All Nationalities;  The University of Verona hereby announces a public selection for admission to its PhD programmes for the XL cycle, academic year 2024/2025, with the awarding of no. 111 scholarships.

UNIVR is now accepting applications from the public for admission to its PhD programmes, academic year 2024-2025. PhD programmes officially begin on 1st October 2024 and last at least three years, except for the PhD Programme in Economics and Finance whose duration is four years. To apply for admission to Ph.D. Programmes, candidates (regardless of age or nationality) must be in possession of either a “Laurea Specialistica/Magistrale” or a “Laurea” Degree (Old System Ante Reform no. 509/1999) released by an Italian University. Also candidates with a foreign Master’s Degree (Master of Science or Master of Arts) or an equivalent Master of Science-level degree that in their country grants access to Ph.D. Programmes, are entitled to apply. Applications must be submitted electronically, from 23 April 2024 until 12.00 (midday) of 23 May 2024 (Italian local time).

PhD programmes are the third and highest level of university education in Italy. The objective of a PhD is to learn good methodology for advanced academic or scientific research that can be applied at universities, public authorities or private institutions, or to acquire highly specialised professional knowledge to use in a company. In the context of internationalising research, the University of Verona actively supports international PhD programmes, thesis co-tutoring and the issuing of the additional Doctor Europaeus certificate, as per specific collaboration agreements with foreign universities. It is also possible to be employed in a company on an advanced research apprenticeship contract and work towards your PhD at the same time.

Candidates are admitted to the programmes by a competitive application process. At the end of the three- or four-year period of study, graduates are awarded with the title of dottore di ricerca (PhD) after successfully defending their thesis.

• have studied in Italy and hold a qualification such as laurea magistrale, laurea specialistica or laurea del vecchio ordinamento (pre D.M. 509/1999)
• hold a university degree equivalent to the degrees mentioned above (Master of Science/Art), which grants access to the doctorate in the country where they completed their university studies.

Professional qualifications (e.g., Master of Business Administration – MBA, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery – MBBS, etc.) do not grant access to PhD studies. Those who will graduate by the date of enrolment in the Ph.D. program may also apply and participate in the competition.

Evaluation criteria for admission :   The selection procedure aims to ascertain the applicants’ academic background and scientific research aptitude to ensure an appropriate comparative assessment.The Call for Applications sets out details about examination and assessment criteria.

Taxes and Contributions :   Ph.D. students holding a scholarship must pay a single instalment at the time of enrolment of € 450.00 (€184.00 regional tax + €250.00 University fees + € 16.00 stamp duty)Ph.D. students who do not hold a scholarship are exempt from payment of University fees and must pay a single instalment at the time of enrolment of € 200.00 (€184.00 regional tax + € 16.00 stamp duty)

Italian Government (MAECI) Scholarship 2024-25 (Apply Now)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI) is pleased to announce that the applications are open to apply for the Italian Government (MAECI) Scholarship 2024-25 . The MAECI Scholarship is for foreign students and Italian citizens living abroad. The scholarship is for students to pursue Master’s and PhD Degree programs at Italian Public Universities. Through this Scholarship, the Italian Government aims to promote the Italian language and culture. The scholarship is open to citizens from 139 countries. Many more countries have been added to the list this year.

The scholarship will be awarded for 9 months. This scholarship aims to financially support those students who are unable to afford the expenses. The scholarship includes a monthly allowance, Tuition fee coverage, and health insurance coverage. Scholarships are offered for four different study schemes: Master’s Degree, Courses of Higher Education in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM), Ph.D. program, and Research under academic supervision. All the applicants must be submitted online through the “ Study in Italy ” website. More details about the scholarship requirements and the application process are given below.
