Send Word, Excel and PowerPoint Files over WhatsApp

WhatsApp previously introduced the feature to send PDF files to WhatsApp Contacts. The company is now enhancing the feature by allowing users to send and receive other office documents viz Word, Excel, PowerPoint files and txt. This makes WhatsApp even more usable for employees and students who often need to send reports, assignments and presentations to their colleagues, classmates or bosses.

How to Send Office Documents to WhatsApp Contacts

The feature is currently enabled on WhatsApp for Android and iOS devices. In case you are on a different platform, just hold on for some more time.

  • Update to the latest version of WhatsApp. Older versions might not allow you to send office file formats.
  • Make sure that the receiving person has also upgraded his WhatsApp to the latest version. In case you’re sending to a group, each member of the group should have the latest version of WhatsApp before you can send.
  • Launch WhatsApp and open the chat window of the contact or group to whom you want to send the Word, Excel or Powerpoint document.

Add attachment WhatsApp

That’s it. When sent, WhatsApp will display the number of pages and size of the document to you as well as the contact receiving the same.

Share Microsoft Office files with WhatsApp in 6 steps

Adrien Lancaster

With WhatsApp it is now possible to send Microsoft Office documents to your contacts. Handy for sharing a Word or Powerpoint file with someone, for example. In this tip we explain how it works.

To send Office documents via WhatsApp, it is important that you have version 2.16.2 or higher installed. This means not only that you can send Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel files that you have created on your iPhone, but also any documents that you have stored in iCloud Drive. On your Mac you can now, for example, work out a Word document, save it in iCloud Drive and then share it on your iPhone via WhatsApp.

Share Microsoft Office files with WhatsApp

  • Open WhatsApp and choose a chat where you want to send an Office file;
  • Tap the circle with the arrow in it to open the share menu;
  • Choose ‘Share document’;
  • Select the app in which you saved the document. iCloud Drive or Dropbox for example;
  • Find the document and tap ‘Send’;
  • The file will be sent and will appear with a small icon in the chat window.

Thanks to this new option, you no longer have to transfer documents to PDF before you can send them via the chat service. Just keep in mind that the recipient can only view these files in WhatsApp, and will need a separate app to edit them. If you receive an Office file yourself, you can open it and then press the share icon (the square with the arrow in it) and select an app.

How to send documents on WhatsApp for desktop

' src=

by Collen Kriel

Last week, Facebook-owned WhatsApp released a desktop app version of their popular messaging service for both Windows and Mac users. The WhatsApp desktop app has now also received the functionality to share files, a feature that rolled out to iOS and Android users on the WhatsApp mobile app in March.

The file sharing functionality is rolling out to both the desktop versions of WhatsApp and the web-based version. We look at how you can send documents to your WhatsApp contacts on your desktop.

How to send documents to your WhatsApp contacts on your desktop

If you have not downloaded the desktop app version of WhatsApp , follow the steps below or read our detailed instructions for WhatsApp on your Mac or Windows desktop .

  • Go to WhatsApp’s download center and download Windows or Mac version.
  • The desktop app will open and you can scan the QR code with your smartphone.
  • WhatsApp will be mirrored on your desktop

Alternatively, if you would prefer the web-based version of WhatsApp , go to https://web.whatsapp.com/ and scan the QR code .

To send a document to a WhatsApp contact on your desktop, click the paperclip icon found in the top right-hand corner. In the drop-down menu, you will see options to share a photo or video, take a photo using the webcam and lastly share a document . Click on Document > select the file you want to share.

Supported file options include PDFs and Office documents , like PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, etc. Sharing documents on the mobile versions of WhatsApp is limited to 100 MB , so there is likely to be similar limitations on the desktop app and web versions of WhatsApp.

WhatsApp remains the most popular messaging app with over a billion monthly users and rumors are circulating that the messaging service could be getting additional features. Features, unearthed by Phone Radar , include the ability to record voicemails, the ability to send archive files and a ‘call back’ shortcut that will be added to the notification panel.

We will have to wait and see whether these changes will arrive on WhatsApp any time soon.

How to use WhatsApp: A step-by-step beginner's guide

Published on April 30, 2024

WhatsApp boasts more than 2 billion users worldwide, but if you don’t live in one of the countries where it’s popular, you may have never used it. Still, if you’re looking for a good messaging platform, it’s one of the best messaging apps available. In this guide, we show you how to use WhatsApp for beginners and answer some common questions like whether the platform is safe and encrypted.

To use WhatsApp on your iOS or Android phone, download the app from the Play Store or App Store and follow the instructions to verify your phone number. Once logged in, you can message any of your contacts that also have WhatsApp installed on their phones. The app automatically fetches contacts from your phonebook, so you don't need to know someone's username to use WhatsApp.

How to install WhatsApp on Android and iOS

whatsapp icon google pixel 4 xl

The first step in learning how to use WhatsApp is installing the app, and you can do it in just a few minutes. The app is completely free and only requires a phone number and a mobile device to sign up. Keep in mind Whatsapp is designed for phones, not tablets. If you have a tablet, there are still workarounds for Whatsapp, but we’ll cover those later in this guide.

Without further ado, here’s how to install it for Android or iOS:

  • Install the app from the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iPhone).
  • Launch the app and approve the requested permissions.
  • Enter your phone number and tap Confirm .
  • Enter the verification code received via SMS (WhatsApp may do this automatically).
  • Import existing contacts into the app (optional).

That’s all there is to it. You’re now ready to start chatting with any of your contacts that have WhatsApp installed. You can also manually add contacts to WhatsApp if you don’t want to import your entire contact list.

How to set up your WhatsApp profile

whatsapp android profile picture

Before you start chatting, there is one more step you may want to take. Creating a profile will help your contacts know who you are, even if they don’t have your number saved in their contacts. You can add a picture, name, and a short bio.

  • Tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the app and tap Settings .
  • Tap your name at the top of the screen.
  • To change your picture, tap the camera icon and select a photo.
  • To change your name, tap the pencil icon next to Name .
  • Enter or adjust your bio by tapping the pencil icon next to About .

You can also change your phone number from this screen, and the process is the same as when you first set up your account. It will send a verification code via SMS, and once confirmed, WhatsApp will transfer all of your chats and contacts to that number.

How to start a chat on WhatsApp

Now that your profile is set, it’s time to get to the task at hand: chatting! The first time you open the app, you won’t have any chats open, but you can start a new conversation by tapping on the chat bubble in the bottom right.

whatsapp chat bubble

Select the contact you want to chat with from the list. If you already have a previous chat with that contact, it will open that instead of a brand new chat. All that’s left is to type your message at the bottom of the screen. After entering your text, tap the arrow icon alongside the text box to send it.

whatsapp mobile menu icon

You can also send pictures or files on WhatsApp by tapping the + icon next to the chatbox. WhatsApp has a built-in camera app, but it’s better to use your normal camera app to take the picture and select it in the gallery to send. This will give you more editing options and generally results in higher-quality photos, which you can send without compression with the HD photo quality option.

To start a group chat, tap the same chat bubble as before, then tap New Group . You can then select the members you want to invite, enter a name for the group, and start chatting.

How to use GIFs on WhatsApp

How to use gifs on WhatsApp

Sending gifs on WhatsApp should be a simple task, but the exact steps are far from obvious. To make matters worse, they differ between iPhones and Android phones.

To send a gif on Android, you first need to open a chat and tap on the smiley face next to the text box. Then, tap the gif text at the bottom of the screen to see a selection of the current most popular gifs. To search for more gifs, tap the magnifying glass at the bottom left and enter your keywords. Once you’ve found and selected your gif, all that’s left is to press send.

It’s worth noting that the process may be easier depending on which brand of phone you have or if you have a different keyboard installed. Often you can tap the gif text above the keyboard instead of the complicated process above.

To send a gif on an iPhone, open a chat and tap the plus icon in the bottom left. Then, select Photo and Video Library from the menu and tap the magnifying glass icon in the bottom left to search. Once selected, tap send .

How to call using WhatsApp

One of the most useful features when using WhatsApp internationally is the ability to make phone calls . Unlike standard international voice calls, WhatsApp calls use your internet connection rather than your phone line, so they’re completely free (barring any data overage charges when not on Wi-Fi).

whatsapp ios call buttons

To start a phone call on WhatsApp, all you need to do is open a chat window and tap the phone icon in the top right. If it’s a group, you can even select multiple people to call simultaneously.

The steps for making a video call on WhatsApp are virtually identical. Just tap the video camera icon next to the phone icon.

How to use WhatsApp on your computer

how to use whatsapp web

If you prefer typing on a keyboard (or don’t like looking at your phone all day), you can also use WhatsApp from a computer . You’ll need to keep your phone nearby, but it can be a convenient way to chat or send files from your PC or Mac.

  • On your computer browser, navigate to web.whatsapp.com .
  • Open WhatsApp on your phone, tap the three dots in the top right, then WhatsApp Web .
  • Tap the plus icon at the top right.
  • Point your phone camera at the QR code on your computer screen.
  • WhatsApp should instantly log in on your computer.

If you don’t want to use a browser, you can also install the WhatsApp PC client directly on your computer. If you think someone is using WhatsApp Web without your permission, you can remove access from your phone by following the first two steps above.

How to use WhatsApp on an iPad or Android tablet

Apple iPad

With iPadOS adding lots of new features every year that make it more and more like a computer, it might come as a surprise to learn that using WhatsApp on your iPad is quite difficult. You can install the app directly, but you have to remove it from your phone, which obviously isn’t ideal.

To use WhatsApp on your iPad, you need to use the web portal outlined above. Even then, there’s an extra step involved due to accessing the site from a mobile browser.

whatsapp android desktop site

The trick here is to request the desktop version of web.whatsapp.com . This will tell WhatsApp that you’re using a computer instead of a mobile device and allow you to connect your phone with the same steps above. How exactly you request the desktop version will depend on which browser you’re using, but we’ve outlined the steps for Safari below.

  • Open the Safari browser and navigate to web.whatsapp.com .
  • Tap the three dots next to the URL field, then tap Request Desktop Site .
  • Open WhatsApp on your phone, tap Settings in the top right, then WhatsApp Web .
  • Point your phone camera at the QR code on your iPad screen.
  • WhatsApp should instantly log in on your iPad.

Note that this trick works with Android tablets and iPads of all sizes, and they can be paired with both Android phones and iPhones in any combination.

whatsapp for tablet beta

Android users who are signed up for the beta program can also now use a test version of WhatsApp for Android tablets . If you are not in the beta program, you can get the APK file from a third-party source. There’s no word yet on when the tablet version will be rolled out for the iPad.

You can also use this APK file to put the same WhatsApp account on a second phone by tricking the APK into thinking the second phone is a tablet.

What is WhatsApp?

WhatsApp stock photo from Dec 2021 5

WhatsApp is a free chat app that launched at the dawn of the smartphone era in 2009. It wasn’t until 2015 that it became the most popular communication app worldwide, but nowadays, it’s virtually ubiquitous in most of Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.

The popularity of WhatsApp is because it’s free, it doesn’t have ads, and of course, it has a huge existing user base. It also features end-to-end encryption, so your messages are private and secure. However, security policy changes in early 2021 mean the app can share some of your data with Facebook.

In addition to standard one-on-one and group chats, you can also do voice or video calls free of charge, even internationally . Remember that this will eat up your data when not connected to Wi-Fi. One small downside is you typically need a SIM card to use Whatsapp , though thankfully, there are workarounds.

Is WhatsApp safe and secure?

WhatsApp encrypted private chat

With every message and call end-to-end encrypted by default , WhatsApp is quite secure for virtually all uses. This level of encryption means that not even WhatsApp can see the content of your messages, despite what you might hear online.

Still, you should be wary of phishing attempts. Never give your personal information to someone you don’t know, and don’t be afraid to block or report users you think are trying to scam you. WhatsApp also supports two-step verification in the form of a six-digit PIN.

When it comes to privacy, things are more complicated. An early 2021 privacy policy update stated that WhatsApp might share some of your data with Facebook. This will include your telephone number, location, product interactions, etc. Presumably, this is to improve ad targeting in other Facebook products.

This update was the subject of much debate among users but ultimately rolled out on May 15, 2021. Later in 2021, it was revealed that although WhatsApp cannot see your messages, the company regularly uses contractors to do so as part of a content reviewal system. This is limited to extreme cases of child abuse material or terrorism, but it does fly in the face of WhatsApp’s marketing material.

In other words, if you are concerned with your privacy and don’t want Facebook to access some of your data, WhatsApp might not be for you. Other apps like Telegram and Signal offer better security but don’t boast nearly the same number of users.

Other WhatsApp FAQs

Both calls and video calls are free, but will use data if not connected to Wi-Fi. Be careful not to exceed your mobile data limits, especially with video calls.

WhatsApp Plus is an application developed using stolen code from the official WhatsApp app. It enables a few extra features, but needs to be downloaded and sideloaded to work. It is unsafe to use and may lead to your WhatsApp account being banned, or worse, your information being stolen.

Yes, WhatsApp was purchased by Facebook in February of 2014.

While some could consider it a social media app, it’s generally considered an instant messaging or communication app. As more business features are added, it may tip further into social media territory.

No. The app has been blocked in China since 2017, although it may still be accessible via VPN .

Yes. Both calls and messages are encrypted end-to-end, so in most conditions, neither law enforcement nor WhatsApp itself can see them unless they have access to your device.

Your WhatsApp status is pretty much the same as your Instagram, Facebook, or Snapchat story: a way to share a slice of your life with your contacts. You can learn more about WhatsApp statuses here .

How to share your Microsoft PowerPoint presentation on a Mac, PC, or web browser

  • It's easy to share a PowerPoint presentation on your Mac or PC app.
  • You can also share a presentation if you use the online version of PowerPoint.
  • Sharing a presentation can help you collaborate with friends or coworkers.
  • Visit Business Insider's Tech Reference library for more stories .

When creating Microsoft PowerPoint presentations for work or school, it's often necessary to collaborate with others on your projects.

Thankfully, it's easy to share a PowerPoint presentation no matter what version you use. The process looks fairly similar on both Mac and PC programs, as well as on the online version that can be accessed from any web browser. The online option is helpful if you don't have the Microsoft Office program downloaded to your desktop.

For all of these options, you can add a collaborator (which operates similarly to sharing Google Slides ) or opt to send your file as a presentation or PDF via email. There are also alternative methods, such as sending via social media.

Here's how to share a presentation.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Apple macbook pro (from $1,299.00 at apple), acer chromebook 15 (from $179.99 at walmart), microsoft office (from $149.99 at best buy), samsung chromebook (from $269.00 at amazon), how to share a powerpoint presentation on a pc.

Sharing a presentation on the PC version of PowerPoint should look similar on most computer types. The following steps and accompanying photos detail the process on a Samsung Chromebook.

1. Open the PowerPoint presentation you wish to share on your PC.

2. Click the "Share" symbol in the upper right hand corner of the screen. This should give you the option to share either the full document or just the current slide.

  • If you prefer to add a collaborator instead (similar to Google Slides functions), you will need to click the orange button to save a copy of the file to your OneDrive.

3. Choose how you'd like to share the document or slide as an attachment. You can choose to send an email via Outlook or as a message via Zoom, for example.

Additionally, when you first launch the program, you can also find a "Share" tab on the left hand side. This will provide you with the same options for sharing a file.

How to share a PowerPoint Presentation on a Mac

1. Open the PowerPoint presentation on your Mac desktop or laptop.

2. Click the "File" tab in the top left corner.

3. Select "Share" from the dropdown menu. This will grant you the option to either send or copy a link to share, send the file as a presentation or PDF, or manage access to a shared file. Select whichever option you'd like and follow the directions to add contact information.

  • If you wish to manage access and add collaborators, you will have to make sure the file has been uploaded to your OneDrive before proceeding. (If it hasn't, PowerPoint should prompt you to do so at this time.)

4. Sending the file as an email is the most common choice. Selecting this option will automatically open a new draft with the file attached. (Be sure to select "Send PDF" if you'd prefer it to send as a PDF file instead of as a presentation.) Add an address, subject, and body text before sending.

You can also share a presentation by clicking the "Share" button in the upper right hand corner. (This is similar to how it appears on a PC.)

This option is extremely helpful as it provides all of your possible options in a single pop-up. Enter a name or email address (along with an optional message) to send the document.

You can change the permissions settings at the top before clicking "Send," "Copy Link," or "Mail" to share your work. Click "More Apps" to browse additional options, such as sending via social media or text message. Lastly, you can select "Send a Copy" to send as a traditional attachment.

How to share a PowerPoint presentation on a web browser

You can access PowerPoint online on either a Mac or PC, as long as you have your login information for Microsoft Office. Regardless of what browser you prefer to use, the steps to share a presentation are exactly the same.

1. Log in to your Microsoft Office account on your preferred web browser and open the presentation you wish to share.

2. Click the "Share" button in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

3. This will open a pop-up in the center of the page. Enter a name or email address (along with an optional message) to send the document. You can change the permissions settings at the top before sending the link by clicking the "Send" or "Copy Link" option. (Those who have followed these steps on a Mac will recognize that it looks similar.)

Additionally, when you open the main menu, you can click the "Share" tab on the left hand side. This will allow you to invite others to edit the presentation or embed the presentation for a blog or website.

If you are looking to embed online, this will open a different pop-up that will generate a code for you. Select the dimensions desired and then paste the text as needed. Click the "Close" or "X" buttons to minimize the window.

How to use whatsapp on your computer (and web).

WhatsApp on the PC is just so convenient.

Quick Links

Should you use whatsapp on the web or download the app, download the whatsapp app on your windows pc or mac, connect your whatsapp account to the desktop app or the browser.

Want to use WhatsApp from your computer? While there's no standalone WhatsApp client, you can use WhatsApp's web app and desktop client to send messages via your smartphone. Here's how to use WhatsApp on your Windows PC, Mac, or other type of computer.

The desktop app and the web interface are very similar, but there are a few critical differences. The big ones are features—the WhatsApp web interface doesn't allow you to place audio or video calls. Given that limitation, we'd generally recommend that you use the desktop client whenever you can.

Click the phone or video camera icon in the upper right corner to start a voice or video call respectively. Once you're in a video call, you can even share your screen if you want. Just click the screen share button at the bottom, then select the window you'd like to share.

The major advantage you get from accessing WhatsApp through your browser is convenience. You can use WhatsApp Web from any desktop browser (all major browsers like Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge are supported) on any operating system. You'll also get notifications for new messages. You can even use it on PCs that you can't install apps on (like a public computer), but you should exercise caution if you do that. Use a private window, make sure to log out, and keep in mind that software on the PC may be able to snoop on what you send and receive.

If you want a dedicated app, you can use the WhatsApp Desktop application for Windows and macOS. If you don't want to use the link, you can always search "WhatsApp" in the Microsoft or Apple Stores. For added features, you can even use third-party apps. ChatMate for WhatsApp ($2.99) is a great alternative for Mac users.

If you don't want to use the app, just continue to the next section.

The process of connecting your iPhone or Android smartphone to WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop is the same. We'll walk you through the process of using WhatsApp Web.

A New Mexico judge has decided today that Alec Baldwin will still be going to trial this summer for the October 2021 fatal shooting of  Rust   cinematographer  Halyna Hutchins .

“It is ordered that defendant Alec Baldwin’s Motion to dismiss the indictment is hereby denied,” said Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer in her just released ruling Friday. Baldwin’s trial is set to start in Santa Fe on July 9. The  State v. Alexander Rae Baldwin  trial is expected to last about two weeks.

Alec Baldwin Hearing Turns Into Verbal Brawl Between 'Rust' Prosecutor & Defense Lawyer; Judge Sets Ruling On Dismissing Involuntary Manslaughter Charges For Next Week

“After review of transcripts from the January 18, 2024 and January 19, 2024 grand jury presentations, the Court does not find that the ‘prosecuting attorney assisting the grand jury’ engaged in ‘intentional misconduct’ reflecting ‘dishonesty of belief, purpose, or motive’ in the course of the attorney’s ‘presentation of evidence to the grand jury,'” she wrote in the 25-page order ( read it here ).

The move to confirm that the Rust star and producer will face involuntary manslaughter charges, and a possible 18 months behind bars if found guilty, comes a week after a contentious virtual hearing on the defense motion to toss the case out.

Hutchins was killed and Rust director Joel Souza was injured on October 21, 2021 after the Colt .45 Baldwin was pointing at the cinematographer fired off a live round during a rehearsal at the Bonanza Creek Ranch near Sante Fe. The multi-Emmy winner insists he never pulled the trigger on the gun. A claim the FBI and independent analysis have adamantly disagreed with. On April 15, Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed  was sentenced to 18 months in a Land of Enchantment state prison after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter on March 6. Blamed for the live round getting on the Rust set, the 27-year-old daughter of legendary movie gunman Thell Reed is appealing her sentence.

Motions that the combative prosecutors rejected in the strongest terms.

“To further illustrate the fallacy in the defendant’s claim that the revolver had been altered or damaged prior to October 21, 2021, Messrs. Luke and Michael Haag conducted specific testing on the firing pin impression on the primer on the cartridge of the fired bullet that killed Ms. Hutchins,” they said in a May 21 filing (read it here) asking for the defense motion itself to thrown in the judicial trash. “Based on their testing, the hammer had to have been in the full cock position at the time the gun was fired, killing Halyna Hutchins.”

Recharged with involuntary manslaughter  in late January and having  entered a not guilty plea  not long afterward, Baldwin is fighting about half a dozen civil cases in California and New Mexico courts related to  Rust  and the deadly shooting on the troubled set of the indie Western.

Not that Rust itself is on the shelf.

Resurrected in early 2023 and finished by filming in Montana, the now completed Rust has still yet to find a buyer.
