A Cruel Angel's Thesis (残酷な天使のテーゼ, Zankoku na tenshi no tēze) is a song from 1995, part of the television anime series named Neon Genesis Evangelion (Japanese: 新世紀エヴァンゲリオン, Hepburn: Shinseiki Evangerion, lit. "New Century Gospel").

The song was originally performed by Yoko Takahashi (高橋 洋子, Takahashi Yōko) and it was released on 25th of October 1995, part of the album named "Neon Genesis Evangelion".

The song was first meant to be classical type, but the composer was afraid it could get the public confused regarding the anime, so they decided to let it be more like an upbeat J-pop song.

"A Cruel Angel's Thesis" has two instrumental versions, arranged by composer Shiro Sagisu and they are played at the end of the series in the final episode, "Take care of yourself".

Looking into the song’s composition, we can find elements like a violin, piano, and guitar.

Since its initial release, the song was covered by many artists, being one of the most appreciated anime songs and it has also a lot of dance cover remixes, that have appeared on the Dancemania compilations.
