Shikaaru Movie Review and Rating!

Noted actress Sai Dhansika starrer Shikaaru under the direction of Hari Kolagani has hit the silver screens today. Let’s check how it fares.

Story: The film opens with friendship-related episodes between four college thick friends. Unexpectedly, one among the friends’ gang named Bobby crosses paths with a married woman Devika( Sai Dhansika ). Instantly, Bobby gets connected to her and eventually friendship blooms between them. One fine day, Devika asks Bobby to visit her house as her husband who is a cop goes for a night shift. Soon after Bobby reaches Devika’s house, her husband comes back from work. The rest of the storyline revolves around how Devika hides Bobby from her husband? What kind of hurdles will Devika face in the process, forms the rest of the tale.

Performances: Talented actress Sai Dhansika is impressive with her acting as a housewife who has many desires in life. Her performance during the second half proceedings brings depth to the proceedings to an extent.

The four guys who are seen as college students have a decent screen presence. Acting-wise, four of them gave a good performance in the key roles.

Artists such as Posani Krishna Murali, Jabardasth fame Chamak Chandra evoke decent fun at parts. Actor Kishore gets a purposeful role and the talented actor impresses with his performance during the climax portions.

Technicalities: Music by Sekhar Chandra is okay but would have to be even better. Compared to previous works, the music composer mark work sounding is missing in the movie.

The photography work by Vasili Shyam Prasad’s okay as he used appropriate framing and lighting setup to shoot the night effect sequences.

While the editing work by Venkateshwara Rao S is okay, writing from Vishwa Karun lacks solid impact. Production values for this limited-budget film are okay.

Analysis: The base idea of Hari Kolagani to explore the hidden desires in a married woman is good and tried to showcase the problems being faced by the woman who is awaiting love and caring from husbands. Though Hari Kolagani’s idea is appreciatable, his narrative lacks a solid punch.

Considering the genre, Shikaaru has full scope to insert good fun elements into the proceedings but sadly the director ignored to add a good dose of entertaining elements in the plotline. To summerize, Shikaaru is a failed attempt by the team. The film has nothing except for a few outdated jokes and silly proceedings.

Verdict: Fun-coated drama!

Kollywood actress, Sai Dhansika’s Telugu debut Shikaaru is out now in theaters. Let’s check how the movie is.

Four Engineering students in Kakinada are about to complete their studies. Bobby(Abhinav Medishetty) is a bright student who helps his friends in their studies. One day, he meets Devika (Sai Dhansika), a married woman with dissatisfaction in life. One day, she asks Bobby to come over to her house. Bobby reaches there but suddenly, Devika’s husband (Kishore) comes home from duty. What happened next? Did Bobby escape safely? How did Bobby’s friends help him out of the house? You need to watch the film on the big screen to know the answers.

Plus Points:

Though the story is nothing new to Telugu audiences, the director Hari Kolagani narrated it in a nice manner. As said in promotions, the movie is an out-and-out comedy with a message. The story runs well in the first half but deviates in the latter half.

Sai Dhansika makes a good debut in Tollywood and she needs to be appreciated for choosing this kind of a role. Apart from her, Dheeraj Athreya steals the show with his innocence and comedy. His dialogue delivery, especially when he talks about the star hero Balakrishna, makes the audience feel euphoria. Tej Kurapati, Navakanth, Chammak Chandra and Posani Krishna Murali also deliver their best.

Minus Points:

The story is quite mediocre and predictable but is enjoyable only because of the lead actors’ performances. The story diverts a little bit from the main issue to address another. In the process, the film becomes a bit dull.

The screen time of the characters played by Annapurna, and Surekha Vani could have been more and their presence in the latter half might have created more humour.

Technical Aspects: 

Director Hari Kolagani succeeds in running the movie well. His skills of narrating the story with decent comedy are commendable. Technically, the movie is fine with good cinematography by Vashili Shyam Prasad and background music by Shekar Chandra. Editing of Venkateswara Rao could have been better as he should have trimmed a few scenes in the second half.

On the whole, Shikaaru is a routine comedy-drama. The comedy scenes are a big relief in the movie. Barring a few lags in key scenes in the second half, the movie is watchable if you have nothing on your watchlist.

Shikaaru OTT release date: When and where to watch Sai Dhanshika’s Telugu film

Sai Dhanshika, who debuted in Tamil cinema with SP Jhananathan’s Peranmai, carved a niche for herself in the industry with films like Kabali, Solo, Paradesi, Aravaan, to name a few. It took the actress nearly a decade to make her Telugu debut with Shikaaru, a full-length comedy entertainer directed by Hari Kolagani. PSR Kumar (Babji) had bankrolled the film under Sri Sai Lakshmi Creations.

Shikaaru, that also starred Abhinav Medisetty, Tej Kurapati, Dheeraj Aathreya, Navakanth and Aadukalam Kishore, hit theatres on July 1 and earned acclaim for its fun quotient. The entertainer is gearing up for its OTT premiere this weekend. Telugu OTT platform aha has grabbed the streaming rights of the film. Shikaaru releases on aha on July 29, the platform announced recently.

The film revolves around four engineering students in Kakinada. One among them, a bright student Bobby, meets a married woman Devika, who’s not quite happy with her marriage. The latter even asks Bobby to come to her house. Just when their romance appears to be taking off and Bobby reaches her house, Devika’s better half returns to home and all hell breaks loose.

Sai Pavan Kumar is the co-producer of the film that has cinematography by Vasili Shyam Prasad. Shikaaru is edited by Venkateswara Rao Srungavarapu, with Shekar Chandra scoring the music. Vishwa Karun is the dialogue writer and Sharmila Yelisetty is the art director. Aditya Music had bagged the film’s music rights. Vageswari (Padma) is the presenter.

In a conversation with OTTplay, while talking about the film, Dhanshika said, “There are good and bad sides to everyone and our life is about how we rectify ourselves and cope with a situation. In a nutshell, this is what Shikaaru is all about. Any woman expects love, attention from her partner and Devika is denied that. She is attracted to someone and invites him to the house. What happens next? The film looks at the lighter side of the situation and is a laugh riot.”

Story Review

Young beautiful and married girl Devika (Sai Dhansika) finds in a peculiar situation along with youngster Bobby (Abhinav) in her house. She is scared what would be the implications if her suspicious husband Narasimha, finds it out. In the meantime, Bobby's friends Siddhu, Ram and others try to save him. To find out whether they are successful in their attempts or not, enjoy Shikaru on the screen.

Artists, Technicians Review

Director Hari Kolagani tried to score a hit with a youthful entertainer. However, within a few minutes viewers come to know that the makers promoted an adult comedy into a youthful entertainer. More than 3/4's film is loaded with double meaning and adult dialogues and only a few among the youth relish such dialogues. Even they too will be put off when there is no story and the makers try to score a hit by playing on their weakness with just adult dialogues.

Hari Kolagani tried to highlight the problems faced by the youngsters if they try to reach out to married women. He may claim that he has a lot of respect for women, but the way he penned the scenes and dialogues show that he doesn't have a semblance of respect for them. There are many cheap scenes and reverted dialogues and especially the entire track of Chammak Chandra shows his perverted mindset. There is nothing to talk about in the story, screenplay, and direction. The story is weak and there are no sparks of screenplay and direction. The entire narration is dragged in the name of adult comedy scaring those in theatres. When the film ended everyone heaved a sigh of relief. Hari Kolagani who made his debut used his Jabardasth experience and turned the film into a Jabardasth show and one gets a feeling that Jabardasth episodes are better than Shikaru.

Sai Dhansika for all her talent showcased good expressions and emoted well. She could have chosen a better film and character for her Tollywood debut. Posani Krishna Murali acted as a police officer and through him, the director tried to attract Balakrishna's fans with powerful dialogues singing praises of Balakrishna. Kannada Kishore,Abhinav Medisetty,Tej kurapati, Dheeraj Aathreya, Navakanth,Annapurna,Surekha Vani and others performed according to their roles.

Shekar Chandra's music did not make any impact and BGM is just ok. Vasili Shayam Prasad's cinematography is ok and the editing of Venkateswara Rao Srungavarapu failed completely. But for that, the fault lies with the director. Production values are ok.

Sai Dhansika hoped for a dream debut in Tollywood with Shikaru under Hari Kolagani's direction. However, all her hopes are dashed as Hari Kolagani came up with the so-called youthful entertainer loaded with double-meaning dialogues. He tried to cover it up with scenes singing praises of Balakrishna. Despite all this, he couldn't make up for the weak story, screenplay, and direction. He could have at least saved his honor by selecting a respectable story. Considering all these aspects, CJ goes with a 1 rating for Shikaru.
