How to Earn 35 Contact Hours of PMP Exam Prep

The Project Management Institute (PMI) requires 35 hours of formal project management education, or “contact hours,” before you sit for the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam . Every hour you sit in a class, training program, seminar, or another similar learning activity gives you one contact hour.

This prerequisite can cause a lot of confusion and stress. You may be wondering how to guarantee the validity of your PMP 35 contact hours or the best way to get the 35 contact hours of formal project management education. Project Management Academy’s experts are here to help.

Want to pass the PMP Certification Exam?

7 Secrets to Passing the PMP Exam

Learn the secrets to passing the PMP ® exam on your first try.

What Qualifies as a Contact Hour?

Only instructional training specifically related to project management performance qualifies toward contact hours. This includes project management classroom training, online or virtual training, workshops, and seminars. While an MBA does not automatically meet the 35 contact hours requirement, you can document each relevant class and receive credit for those hours.

PMI randomly selects applicants for audits, so ensure you can provide documentation for each contact hour if needed. This is easy if you take an online training or in-person PMP exam prep class taught by PMI Authorized Training Partners (ATPs) such as PMA. ATPs are evaluated and approved by PMI, so you are guaranteed to fulfill your 35 contact hours with quality, approved instruction.

What Does Not Qualify as a Contact Hour?

Any training unrelated to project management does not qualify, even if it provides other essential skills and knowledge. For example, although courses on leadership skills can be useful, they will not count towards formal project management education hours.

Exam simulators and self-assigned study hours also do not count; while you should study The PMBOK Guide, this is not enough to qualify for the PMP exam. The good news: contact hours never expire! Even if your hours are from many years ago, they still count.

Why Are the PMP 35 Contact Hours Important?

You can use the 35 contact hours to refresh or update your expertise. While active project management experience is a great thing to have, it doesn’t mean you are trained on PMI-approved project management protocols or ready for the PMP exam. Getting 35 contact hours of formal project management education is a chance for you to make sure your knowledge is up to date.

These 35 contact hours are also an opportunity for exam preparation. For example, PMA’s online and in-person exam prep class is designed to provide the knowledge, tools, and resources to pass the PMP exam successfully. Besides fulfilling the PMI-required 35 contact hours as an ATP, our instructors teach complex topics tested on the PMP exam in an approachable way.

You can use your contact hours strategically as you study for the rigorous PMP exam. Fulfilling the contact hours requirement as you start your exam preparation provides a strong foundation for the rest of your studies. In contrast, if you time these contact hours to fall right before your exam, you can get a refresher on PMI-approved materials.

Classroom training. Access an in-depth, interactive learning experience and community. Some classroom training is more general, while others are designed for exam preparation.

Online training. Take your classes remotely for your convenience. Check that your online course tests your knowledge before awarding your contact hours certificate; this is a requirement for online classes.

Check with your local PMI chapter. If you are a PMI chapter member, you can attend courses, conferences, and chapter dinner meetings. Dinner meetings only count towards contact hours if at least one hour is spent in a learning activity such as a seminar.

Check local or online community colleges. Many community colleges offer project management courses that qualify for the contact hours requirement.

How to Earn 35 Contact Hours for PMP

There are plenty of ways to fulfill your requirement of 35 contact hours. The easiest and most strategic way is to take a PMP exam prep class, such as the options offered by PMA. This guarantees high-quality, PMI-approved content and training. Here are some other options to consider:

Ultimately, the most important thing is you receive quality instruction that aligns with the latest PMP exam content and structure and you have documentation if you need it.

Not sure where to get started fulfilling your 35 contact hours? The experts at PMA have designed in-person and online courses that provide all the benefits that come with project management education and more. These PMP exam prep classes fulfill the PMI-required 35 contact hours, are taught by PMI ATP instructors, are guaranteed to run on the dates listed, and provide a 100% money-back guarantee.

In addition to the PMP exam prep class, you will receive 6 months of access to our online PMP training portal with resources such as supplemental video lectures, application resources, practice PMP exams and questions, and more.

Did you know? We have over 3,000 mentors available right now!

Whether you are making an internal move towards a Project Management role or applying for a new role in Project management, there is usually a requirement to have one or more PM certifications. In this blog, I will review some of the more frequently mentioned PM certifications I have seen in my years of applying and interviewing for PM roles.

Side Note - Most of the recognized PM certificates from the likes of Project Management Institute (PMI) or Axelos can range in cost from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand (depending if you go down the route of instructor led courses), so in this blog, I will also mention some of the cheaper or free introductory courses that you can do online, before making the commitment and signing up for some of the more recognized certifications .

Introductory Courses

If you are looking to dip your toe into the world of project management, there are a few online avenues that you can explore before deciding to pursue any of the recognized certifications mentioned below.

Image

This is probably my favorite resource as they have an extensive catalog of courses from well-recognised educational institutes, such as Harvard, Stanford and Oxford University. However there is a monthly subscription fee to avail of these resources, but it’s money well spent.

Additionally, they also have a lot of courses directly from some of the largest tech companies such as Google, Microsoft and IBM. I’ve personally found these company-specific trainings are ideal to add to your CV in order to help you get to the early interview stages with a company, for example, the Google Project Management: Professional Certificate.

Image

LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning has a great catalog of PM foundation courses that you can do, along with some longer format courses that can help you with exam preparation courses for some of the PM certifications. I think this is a great introduction for anyone considering PM as their next career move. Should also be noted similarly to Coursera LinkedIn Learning requires you to subscribe to avail of the service, but it is a small investment to make in progressing your career that one step further.

Image

Similar to LinkedIn Learning Udemy has a good range of courses, however, these are user-generated content so requires a lot of research into the course you want to sign up for to ensure you are getting the most bang for your buck. I’ve used Udemy for certification preparation and had mixed results. But it is still a good resource to have and to use, depending on the style of learning you benefit from.

Professional Certifications

There are a few more certifications that I did not mention below, but the certifications discussed are the most sought-after ones that I have seen over the last few years of working and interviewing candidates for PM roles.

Image

PMP (Project Management Professional)

Overview 🔎:  Offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI) the PMP certification is the most globally recognized certification for Project Managers.

Requirements 📋:  In order to sit the PMP exam you will need either:

  • 4-year degree, 36 months of project management experience and 35 hours of project management education (or the CAPM certificate - mentioned below)
  • Secondary school degree, 60 months of project management experience and 35 hours of project management education (or the CAPM)

Examination Process 🎓:  The PMP exam consists of 180 multiple-choice questions over 230 mins, covering various aspects of project management, including the PMI's PMBOK Guide.

Image

PRINCE2 (Projects IN Controlled Environments)

Overview 🔎: Offered by Axelos, PRINCE2 is a process-driven project management methodology widely used in the UK and Ireland. There are two PRINCE2 certifications, Foundation and Practitioner.

Requirements 📋: There are no prerequisites for the PRINCE2 Foundation certification however, to sit the Practitioner level, you need to have passed the Foundation exam.

Examination Process 🎓: The PRINCE2 Foundation exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions over 60 min, while the Practitioner exam consists of 68 multiple-choice and multiple scenario-based questions over 150 mins.

Image

CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)

Overview 🔎:  Offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI) CAPM is a foundational certification in project management that can be used as a pre-requisite for the PMP certification.

Requirements 📋:  23 hours of project management education (PMI also offer a Project Management Basics course that can help you achieve this)

Examination Process 🎓:  The CAPM exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions over 180 mins, covering project management fundamentals and terminology.

Image

CSM (Certified SCRUM Master) / PSM (Professional SCRUM Master)

Overview 🔎:  CSM offered by SCRUM Alliance and PSM offered by SCRUM.org are certifications for Scrum practitioners, emphasizing Agile project management principles.

Requirements 📋:

  • CSM: You must attend a two-day Certified ScrumMaster training course conducted by a certified trainer.

Examination Process 🎓:

  • CSM: The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions over 60 mins
  • PSM: The exam consists of 80 multiple-choice questions over 60 mins

Image

Agile Certified Practitioner

Overview 🔎:  Offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI) the ACP certification shows a practitioner's knowledge and experience with various Agile methodologies beyond just Scrum.

Requirements 📋:  21 hours of Agile training, 8 months of Agile project experience and 12 months of general project management experience or PMP certification.

Examination Process 🎓:  The ACP exam consists of 120 multiple-choice questions over 180 mins.

Image

Education Institutions

Lastly there are plenty of Universities and Colleges that are offering Project Management courses both online and in person, these can range from Professional Certifications, Pg (Post Graduate)  Certs, Pg Diplomas, and Masters. While not essential, these are a great way to get some exposure to Project planning and documentation as these courses usually range from 3 - 12 months in duration and throughout this period your course assignments will guide you through examples of documentation and project plans that are required for varying types of projects.

As a PM I think it’s key to not only balance real-world experience from working on projects day to day but also upskilling and obtaining one or more of these certifications above in order to have the theoretical knowledge in place to know when and where to use different principles of frameworks. If you find yourself more interested in moving into the World of Project Management please reach out.

25+ PMP Formulas to Ace Your PMP Exam in 2024

30 Useful PMP Formula To Master PMP Exam

Are you studying for the PMP certification exam?

If so, there are a few key areas you should concentrate on. The first thing would be formulas. Some essential formulas for the PMP exam are critical for passing the PMP certification exam. Although there is no adequate set of formula questions, one must consider these formulas during preparation.

In the PMP exam , you may encounter several simple and direct questions based on the PMP formulas to assess your understanding of these formulas. As a result, understanding these PMP formulas is critical.

In this article, we will go through all the formulas for the PMP exam and provide you with the knowledge of PMP formulas. We’ve put together a list of the cost management formulas you’ll need to know, along with a description of when and how to use them.

What Exactly are the PMP Formulas and Concepts?

If you’re studying for the PMP exam, you probably already know that you’ll need to know a few common project management formulas, where to use them, how to use them, how to calculate them, and, most importantly, how to get the values. Many say that the PMP exam’s hardest part is learning all the formulas.

We employ project management formulas in various project planning activities. Resource management, PMP cost management formulas, and schedule estimation are examples.

On the other hand, the PMP Syllabus includes many concepts that the Project Management Institute (PMI) frequently uses in PMP exams alongside the PMP formulas. PMI uses these concepts to assess your knowledge of fundamental project management terminology.

Formula 1:

Cost Variance (CV) = Earned Value (EV) – Actual Cost (AC)

Cost Variance (CV): This formula calculates the variance between the earned value (EV), which represents the value of work completed, and the actual cost (AC), which represents the actual expenses incurred. A positive CV indicates that the project is under budget, while a negative CV indicates that the project is over budget.

Schedule Variance (SV) = Earned Value (EV) – Planned Value (PV)

Schedule Variance (SV): SV measures the variance between the earned value (EV) and the planned value (PV), which represents the authorized budget assigned to scheduled work. A positive SV means the project is ahead of schedule, while a negative SV indicates the project is behind schedule.

Cost Performance Index (CPI) = EV / AC

Cost Performance Index (CPI): CPI indicates the efficiency of cost performance by comparing the earned value (EV) to the actual cost (AC). A CPI greater than 1 indicates that the project is under budget, while a CPI less than 1 suggests the project is over budget.

Schedule Performance Index (SPI) = EV / PV

Schedule Performance Index (SPI): SPI measures the efficiency of schedule performance by comparing the earned value (EV) to the planned value (PV). An SPI greater than 1 indicates that the project is ahead of schedule, while an SPI less than 1 suggests the project is behind schedule.

EAC = AC + Bottom-up ETC

Actual Cost (AC): By adding the actual costs incurred (AC) to the new, more accurate estimate for completing the remaining work (Bottom-up ETC), the formula adjusts the total expected cost (EAC) of the project. This allows project managers to account for any discrepancies between the original estimate and the actual project progress, providing a more realistic projection of the total cost needed to complete the project.

EAC = BAC / Cumulative CPI

EAC = BAC / Cumulative CPI: This formula calculates the Estimate at Completion (EAC) by dividing the Budget at Completion (BAC) by the Cumulative Cost Performance Index (CPI). The Cumulative CPI represents the average CPI calculated based on the project’s performance up to the current point. It measures the efficiency of cost performance by comparing the Earned Value (EV) to the Actual Cost (AC).

This formula assumes that the cost performance will remain constant for the remainder of the project and provides an estimate based on the project’s historical cost performance.

EAC = AC + (BAC – EV)

EAC = AC + (BAC – EV): This formula calculates the Estimate at Completion (EAC) by adding the Actual Costs (AC) incurred up to the current point to the difference between the Budget at Completion (BAC) and the Earned Value (EV). The difference between BAC and EV represents the remaining budget needed to complete the project. This formula assumes that the project’s cost performance will continue at the same rate as it has been up to the current point.

EAC = AC + [BAC – EV / (Cumulative CPI ´ Cumulative SPI)]

EAC = AC + [BAC – EV / (Cumulative CPI’ Cumulative SPI)] : This formula calculates the Estimate at Completion (EAC) by adding the Actual Costs (AC) incurred up to the current point to the difference between BAC and EV, adjusted by the ratio of the Cumulative CPI to the Cumulative Schedule Performance Index (SPI). This formula accounts for cost and schedule performance in estimating the total cost needed to complete the project.

Beta = (Pessimistic + 4 Most Likely + Optimistic) / 6

Beta = (Pessimistic + 4 Most Likely + Optimistic) / 6: This formula calculates the Beta value, which is used in the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) for estimating the duration or cost of an activity in project management. It involves averaging the Pessimistic, Most Likely, and Optimistic estimates of the duration or cost, giving more weight to the Most Likely estimate.

Formula 10:

EMV = P x I

EMV (Expected Monetary Value) = P × I : EMV represents the expected value of an uncertain outcome and is calculated by multiplying the Probability (P) of a specific outcome by its Impact (I) in terms of cost, time, or other relevant factors. It is commonly used in decision-making to assess the potential value of different scenarios or risks.

Formula 11:

RPN = Severity x Occurrence x Detection

RPN (Risk Priority Number) = Severity × Occurrence × Detection: RPN is a risk assessment tool used to prioritize risks based on their Severity, Occurrence, and Detection. Each factor is assigned a numerical value, and the product of these values determines the risk’s priority. RPN helps project teams focus on addressing high-priority risks first.

Formula 12:

EV = % Complete x Budget at Completion

EV (Earned Value) = % Complete × Budget at Completion: EV measures the value of work completed at a specific point in time and is calculated by multiplying the percentage of work completed (% Complete) by the total Budget at Completion (BAC). It is a key metric in earned value management, providing insight into project progress and performance.

Formula 13:

CV = Earned Value (EV) – Actual Cost

CV (Cost Variance) = Earned Value (EV) – Actual Cost: CV measures the variance between the earned value (EV), representing the value of work completed, and the actual cost (AC) incurred. A positive CV indicates that the project is under budget, while a negative CV suggests the project is over budget.

Formula 14:

SV = Earned Value (EV) – Planned Value (PV)

SV (Schedule Variance) = Earned Value (EV) – Planned Value (PV): SV measures the variance between the earned value (EV) and the planned value (PV), representing the authorized budget assigned to scheduled work. A positive SV indicates that the project is ahead of schedule, while a negative SV suggests the project is behind schedule.

Formula 15:

CPI = EV / AC

Cost Performance Index (CPI): compares the value of completed work to actual costs in project management. A CPI greater than 1 reflects cost efficiency, indicating completion under budget, while a CPI less than 1 suggests overspending, prompting adjustments to manage costs effectively.

Formula 16:

SPI = EV / PV

Schedule Performance Index (SPI): measures schedule efficiency by comparing the value of completed work to planned work. An SPI greater than 1 denotes progress ahead of schedule, while an SPI less than 1 indicates falling behind, prompting adjustments to meet project deadlines efficiently.

These metrics offer concise insights into cost and schedule performance, guiding decision-making to keep projects within budget and on schedule.

Formula 17:

The overarching formula for Estimate at Completion (EAC) encompasses multiple variations tailored to different project scenarios.

EAC = Actual Cost + Bottom-up Cost to Complete

The first iteration calculates EAC by summing the Actual Cost with the Bottom-up Cost to Complete, offering a revised estimate for completing the remaining work.

EAC = Budget at Completion / Cost Performance Index

The second formula divides the Budget at Completion by the Cost Performance Index (CPI), providing an adjusted estimate based on cost efficiency.

EAC = Actual Cost + [(Budget at Completion – Earned Value) / (Cost performance Index x Schedule Performance Index)]

The third iteration combines cost and schedule performance metrics, using the difference between Budget at Completion and Earned Value, adjusted by the product of CPI and SPI, to derive EAC.

EAC = Actual Cost + (Budget at Completion – Earned Value)

Finally, the fourth variation adds the difference between Budget at Completion and Earned Value to the Actual Cost, reflecting a straightforward adjustment for the remaining work.

These formulas offer comprehensive approaches to estimating the total cost needed to complete a project, incorporating actual costs, budget allocations, and performance metrics to provide accurate projections.

Formula 18:

VAC (Variance at Completion) = BAC (Budget at Completion) – EAC (Estimate at Completion)

VAC (Variance at Completion) = BAC – EAC: VAC represents the Variance at Completion, which is calculated by subtracting the Estimate at Completion (EAC) from the Budget at Completion (BAC). It provides insight into the projected variance between the original budget and the expected final cost of the project.

Formula 19:

TCPI (To-Complete Performance Index): TCPI is calculated in two ways:

  • TCPI = (BAC – EV) / (EAC – AC)

TCPI = (BAC – EV) / (EAC – AC): This formula evaluates the future performance required to achieve the project within the original budget (BAC), considering the earned value (EV), actual cost (AC), and estimate at completion (EAC).

  • TCPI = (BAC – EV) / (BAC – AC)

TCPI = (BAC – EV) / (BAC – AC): This alternative formula considers the original budget (BAC), earned value (EV), and actual cost (AC) to determine the required future performance to complete the project within budget.

Formula 20:

Standard Deviation (?) = (Pessimistic – Optimistic) / 6

Standard Deviation (?) = (Pessimistic – Optimistic) / 6: This formula calculates the Standard Deviation, a measure of the dispersion or variability of a set of values. It is determined by subtracting the Optimistic estimate from the Pessimistic estimate and dividing the result by 6. Standard Deviation helps assess the uncertainty or risk associated with project estimates.

Formula 21:

Communication Channels = n(n-1) / 2

Communication Channels = n(n-1) / 2: This formula calculates a project’s total number of communication channels, where “n” represents the number of stakeholders or team members. It provides a quantitative measure of the potential interactions and complexity of communication within the project team.

Formula 22:

Cost plus Percentage of Cost = Cost + n%

Cost plus Percentage of Cost = Cost + n% : This formula represents a method of pricing or estimating costs, where the final cost is determined by adding a percentage (n%) to the base cost. It is commonly used in contracts or procurement processes to account for additional expenses or profit margins.

Formula 23:

Cost plus Fixed Fee/ Cost Plus Award Fee/ Cost plus Incentive Fee

Cost plus Percentage of Cost = Cost + n

These three contract types—Cost Plus Fixed Fee, Cost Plus Award Fee, and Cost Plus Incentive Fee—operate under the same mathematical formula, where the buyer agrees to cover all incurred costs and adds an additional fee to compensate the seller. This fee remains constant throughout the project for Cost-plus Fixed Fee contracts.

In Cost Plus Award Fee contracts, the seller is awarded a fixed amount based on predefined criteria. Cost plus Incentive Fee contracts offer a variable fee based on project performance, with incentives awarded upon meeting specified conditions.

Despite their differences in fee structure and incentives, all three contracts are represented mathematically as “Cost plus Percentage of Cost = Cost + n,” with ‘n’ denoting the fixed fee, award fee, or incentive, respectively.

Formula 24:

ROI = (Net Profit / Cost of Investment) x 100

ROI (Return on Investment): ROI measures the profitability of an investment relative to its cost. It is calculated by dividing the Net Profit by the Cost of Investment and multiplying by 100 to express the result as a percentage. A higher ROI indicates a more profitable investment.

Formula 25:

Initial Investment / Periodic Cash Flow

Initial Investment / Periodic Cash Flow: This formula calculates the ratio of the initial investment to the periodic cash flow. It helps assess the relationship between the upfront investment required for a project and the subsequent cash flows generated over time.

Formula 26:

Net Present Value of Investment / Initial Investment Cost

Net Present Value (NPV) of Investment / Initial Investment Cost: NPV measures the present value of future cash flows generated by an investment, considering the initial investment cost. A positive NPV indicates that the investment is expected to generate more cash inflows than outflows, making it financially attractive.

Formula 27:

FV = Present Value x (1 + i)n

FV (Future Value) = Present Value × (1 + i)^n: This formula calculates the future value of an investment based on the present value, interest rate (i), and the number of periods (n). It is commonly used in financial analysis to estimate the value of an investment over time, considering compound interest.

Formula 28:

Present Value = Future Value / (1 + i)n

Present Value = Future Value / (1 + i)^n: This formula calculates the present value of a future cash flow, discounting it by the interest rate (i) and the number of periods (n). It helps determine the current worth of future cash flows, enabling better decision-making regarding investments or project financing.

Formula 29:

Target Price = Target Cost + Target Fee

Target Price = Target Cost + Target Fee: This formula is used in cost-reimbursable contracts to determine the total price the buyer (customer) will pay the seller (contractor). The Target Price is the sum of the Target Cost, representing the seller’s estimated costs to complete the project, and the Target Fee, which is the profit or fee the seller will earn if the project is completed within the specified cost parameters.

Formula 30:

PTA = [(Ceiling Price — Target Price) / Buyer’s Share Ratio] + Target Cost

PTA (Price Target Adjustment) = [(Ceiling Price — Target Price) / Buyer’s Share Ratio] + Target Cost : PTA is used in incentive contracts, such as cost-plus-incentive-fee (CPIF) contracts, to adjust the final price paid to the seller based on the actual performance of the project.

It calculates the final contract price by considering the difference between the Ceiling Price (maximum amount the buyer is willing to pay) and the Target Price, adjusted by the Buyer’s Share Ratio, which determines the portion of the cost overrun or underrun shared by the buyer and seller. The Target Cost represents the seller’s estimated costs to complete the project.

Conclusion:

Mastering the numerous PMP formulas presented in this blog is crucial for success on the PMP exam in 2024. However, it’s equally essential to carefully analyze exam questions and understand the context in which each formula is applied.

What is the PMP examination pattern?

The standard method of  PMI examinations is center-based testing (CBT). Paper-based testing (PBT) is also available under certain limited circumstances which are detailed in the “Examination Administration” section below.  The PMP examination consists of 200 multiple-choice questions, out of which 25 are pretest questions. These pretest questions do not affect the final score and are used to test the validity of future examination questions. All of the 200 questions are placed randomly throughout the exam.

  • Total Questions: 200
  • No. of Scored Questions: 175
  • No. of Pretest Questions (Unscored): 25
  • Allotted Examination Time: 4 hrs

This examination is preceded by a tutorial and followed by a survey. Both are optional and can take up to 15 minutes to complete. The time used to complete both the tutorial and survey are not included in the examination time of four hours. Examination Administration: Alternative testing options are available in the following instances:

  • The distance to a CBT site is more than 240 km (150 miles)
  • A CBT site is not available within the country of residence and traveling across country borders is prohibited/unduly burdensome

How to schedule your examination after completion of PMP training?

After completion of PMP Training, you can schedule an exam appointment after PMI receives payment of your certification fee. Follow these instructions to schedule your test appointment with Pearson VUE - Pearson VUE Instructions

What is the rescheduling/cancellation policy for CBT exams?

You can reschedule or cancel the exam at any time until two calendar days before your scheduled exam appointment. However, because of limited seating capacity at the test centers, cancellations and rescheduling the exam will lead to a fee.  Please read the following policy carefully.  Within 30 days of your appointment If you reschedule or cancel your exam within 30 days of your scheduled appointment, you will be charged a fee of US $70. This fee helps to ensure greater seating availability at test centers since candidates who wait until the last minute to reschedule or cancel their exams are “reserving” seats that could be used by others. The fee will be charged when you go online to reschedule or cancel your exam within the 30-day period. The $70 charge will appear on your credit card as a charge from the test vendor. The 30-day period does not include the day of the exam appointment. For example, if you scheduled your exam for May 5th, you must reschedule or cancel the exam on or before April 4th to avoid the fee. For emergency situations in which you are unable to change your exam appointment before 30 days of your exam appointment, the Extenuating Circumstance Policy may apply. The details of Extenuating Circumstances are given below. PMI will evaluate these situations on a case-by-case basis to determine if a refund of the rescheduling fee is appropriate.  Within 2 days of your appointment  You need to reschedule or cancel your appointment before you are within two calendar days of your exam appointment. If you wait until you are within two days of your exam appointment, you will be able to cancel your appointment and you will forfeit the entire exam fee. You will not be able to reschedule your appointment at this point and will need to pay associated reexamination fees to schedule a new exam. Extenuating Circumstances PMI understands that there are times when personal emergencies may cause you to reschedule or cancel your exam within 30 days of the appointment OR miss a scheduled exam appointment (resulting in a no-show status). The extenuating circumstances can include:

  • Medical emergency
  • Military deployment
  • Death in immediate family
  • Illness in immediate family
  • Natural disaster
