FAQs About Social Media Presentation Templates

What are social media presentation templates.

Social Media Presentation Templates are pre-formatted designs that can be used for creating professional and visually appealing presentations related to social media. These templates can be used across various presentation software like PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Keynote. They typically feature elements such as infographics, charts, and diagrams related to the social media realm.

These templates are used to present data and analytics, marketing strategies, campaign overviews, and other related topics in an easy-to-understand and engaging manner. They are ideal for social media managers, digital marketers, business owners, or anyone who needs to showcase information about social media in a professional context.

Why should I use Social Media Presentation Templates?

Using Social Media Presentation Templates comes with several benefits. First, these templates can save you a lot of time and effort. Instead of starting from scratch, you only need to input your data and adjust the design according to your branding or preferences. They provide pre-made layouts, so you no longer have to worry about designing your slides.

Second, templates ensure consistency in your presentation. All slides follow the same design, which contributes to a seamless and professional look. Lastly, these templates help in delivering your message effectively with the help of relevant visuals, making your presentation more engaging.

Why do I need a Social Media Presentation Template when I can use traditional ones?

Social Media Presentation Templates are designed specifically for presenting social media-related content. These templates usually include graphics, icons, and layouts that are tailored to present social media data and strategies. Traditional templates may not have these specialized components.

In addition, using targeted templates for your presentation can make it more focused and relevant to your audience. It also helps in keeping your audience engaged as the visuals are more relatable and easy to understand.

How customizable are Social Media Presentation Templates?

Social Media Presentation Templates are usually fully customizable. You can insert your text, photos, logos, or any other necessary graphics. You can also adjust design elements like color scheme, fonts, and backgrounds to align with your company branding or specific preferences.

Moreover, the included charts, graphs, and infographics are often data-driven, which means you just need to replace the presented dummy data with your own. This feature can make a significant impact in terms of achieving a personalized and professional presentation.

Where can I find quality Social Media Presentation Templates?

Quality Social Media Presentation Templates can be found on various online platforms. These platforms include template marketplaces and specific tools for presentations like SlidesCarnival, SlideModel, Envato Elements, or TemplateMonster. These platforms offer a wide range of templates to satisfactorily cater to your needs.

When choosing a template, be sure to evaluate its design, customization features, and relevance to your content. A preview function is usually available to help you choose the most suitable template. It's also worthwhile to check reviews or ratings if available to ensure it's a reliable choice.

Pro tips for your Social Media Strategy Deck Template

Consider these tips when creating your social media strategy deck.

A good rule of thumb for your social media presentation: provide an overview before diving into the details. This kind of structure may help your slides connect and flow naturally.

Charts, graphs, timelines, diagrams, and other graphics can transform your social media strategy presentation into a memorable, meaningful one.

Think about including pauses or breaks for Q&A into your social media strategy presentation.

Limit one idea or one topic to one slide. Overcrowding each slide makes it harder for your audience to absorb and remember the information, as well as execute on it.

Social Networking Friends and Enemies………..Just a Click Away! Melody Murphy The University of Alabama AIL 690

What is Social Networking? • Builds online communities of people who share common interests or activities. • Most social networks are web based and provide a variety of ways for users to interact through e-mail and instant messaging services.

Most Popular Social Networking Sites. • The following are registered users • MySpace – 246,351,193 • Facebook – 124 million • Classmates.com -- 50 million • Bebo – 40 million and growing

The good and the bad of Social Networking • Many people like social networking as a way of making friends • The rates of predators are on the rise for social networking • Many businesses use social networks as a hiring tool for employees – good or bad?

MySpace • Offers user-submitted network of friends, personal profiles, blogs, groups, photos, music, and videos for teenagers and adults internationally. • Headquarters are in Beverly Hills, CA. • Founded in 2003. • The very first users were eUniverse employees.

Making Friends on MySpace • Most popular with over 200 million registered users • In 2003 it was a small, music-oriented social network with 89 million people. • It is the 7th most frequented website in the world.

A Typical MySpacer • Are you one? • A typical MySpace has 200 “friends” • Spend about 5 days a week and 2 hours a day on the site using IM, E-mail, and posting and reading bulletins. • In 2006, less than one in three had an uncomfortable experience, only 7-9 percent were approached for a sexual liaison.

Facebook • Founded by Mark Zuckerberg on Feb. 4, 2004. • Initially restricted membership to students at Harvard College. • In March 2004, Facebook expanded to Stanford, Yale, and Columbia. • The expansion continued to all Ivy League schools and to most universities in Canada and the U.S. • In June 2004 – set headquarters in Palo Alto, CA and international headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.

Facebook Continued • Users can join networks by city, workplace, school, and region to interact with other people. • People can add friends, send them messages, update their personal profile, notify their friends about themselves. • It has been blocked in Syria and Iran. • It has been banned at many places of work to increase productivity.

Facebook Opened to Everyone • In Sept. 2005 high school networks required an invitation to join. • Later they expanded membership eligibility to several companies including Apple Inc. and Microsoft.

Facebook vs. MySpace Facebook features: • Join one or more networks • Free, but generates revenue from advertising. • Profiles -photos and lists • Private or public messages. • Join groups of friends. • The Wall • Pokes • Only Plain Text MySpace features: • Customize profile pages by entering HTML (but not JavaScript) into such areas as “About Me” • Free • Bulletins • Groups • IM, TV, Applications, Mobile, News, Classifieds, Karoke, Polls, Forums • Decorated profiles

Classmates.com • Created by Randy Conrads in 1995 • Helps members find friends and acquaintances from throughout their lives from kindergarten through college, work, and the military. • 3.8 million paid subscribers as of 06/30/08

Classmates.com Membership • Basic Membership • Create profiles, view other profiles, photos, biographies, timelines, interests, and announcements as well as searching for friends. Cannot receive emails. • Gold Membership • Pay a fee, send and receive emails, view notes posted on their profile bulletin board, see who has visited their profile and signed their guest book access and use tools for planning reunions and create their own private groups.

Bebo • Founded January 2005 • Bebo is an acronym for “Blog early, blog often” • It has two specific modules – a comment section where other users can leave a message, and a list of the user’s friends. • Default sets it to private. The user may change it to public. • Profiles may include quizzes, photo albums, blogs, a list of bands, a list of groups, and/or a video box.

Are you safe socially networking???Predators are lurking. • There are many predators amongst us while social networking. • The Internet is the number one way that predators try to contact their victims. • National Internet poll of teens showed that over half of them ages 13 to 18 communicated with someone they had never met in person.

How Safe Are Our Children? • MySpace Suicide Case • Lori Drew was indicted in perpetrating a hoax on MySpace against 13-year old neighbor (Megan) who committed suicide. • Megan hung herself after receiving cruel messages, including one that the world would be better off without her. • Katherine Lester going to marry Abdullah Jimzawi • Ran off to the Middle East to meet a man who contacted her on MySpace. • She was only sixteen. • She was intercepted in Jordan, sent back to the US, a hearing in court ordered her to surrender her passport and go to counseling.

Social Networking is a Hiring Tool for Businesses • 22 % of banks say they use sites to research job candidates. • CareerBuilder.com • 1/3 that reported they use the sites reported they found content that caused them to dismiss the candidate from being considered.

Business Bad Reports • They found the candidates posted information about the following: • Drinking or using drugs • Provocative or inappropriate photographs • Poor Communication Skills • Bad-mouthed prior employer • Lied about qualifications • Used discriminatory remarks related to race, gender, religion, etc. • Screen name was unprofessional • Linked to criminal behavior • Shared confidential information from previous employers

Businesses Good Reports • They found out the following information about the candidate: • Background supported qualifications • Great communication skills • Good fit for the company’s culture • Site conveyed a professional image • Great references • Showed a wide range of interests • Received awards and accolades • Profile was creative

Closing……The Good and Bad • Good • Social Networking can help you find old friends, family, classmates, and acquaintances. • It is fun to blog, chat, and email. • It can also be very resourceful in finding a job. • Bad • Be very cautious when receiving messages from someone you don’t know. • Don’t put any pictures, words, phrases, or unprofessional images or objects on your pages that could be damaging to your character or career.

Spending too much time on social media and doomscrolling? The problem might be FOMO

For as long as we have used the internet to communicate and connect with each other , it has influenced how we think, feel and behave.

During the COVID pandemic, many of us were “cut off” from our social worlds through restrictions, lockdowns and mandates. Understandably, many of us tried to find ways to connect online .

Now, as pandemic restrictions have lifted, some of the ways we use the internet have become concerning. Part of what drives problematic internet use may be something most of us are familiar with – the fear of missing out, or FOMO.

In our latest research , my colleagues and I investigated the role FOMO plays in two kinds of internet use: problematic social media use and “doomscrolling”.

What are FOMO, problematic social media use and doomscrolling?

FOMO is the fear some of us experience when we get a sense of “missing out” on things happening in our social scene. Psychology researchers have been studying FOMO for more than a decade , and it has consistently been linked to mental health and wellbeing , alcohol use and problematic social media use .

Social media use becomes a problem for people when they have difficulty controlling urges to use social media, have difficulty cutting back on use, and where the use has a negative impact on their everyday life.

Doomscrolling is characterised by a need to constantly look at and seek out “bad” news . Doomscrollers may constantly refresh their news feeds or stay up late to read bad news.

While problematic social media use has been around for a while, doomscrolling seems to be a more recent phenomenon – attracting research attention during and following the pandemic.

What we tried to find out

In our study, we wanted to test the idea that FOMO leads individuals to engage in problematic use behaviours due to their difficulty in managing the “fear” in FOMO.

The key factor, we thought, was emotion regulation – our ability to deal with our emotions. We know some people tend to be good at this, while others find it difficult. In fact, greater difficulties with emotion regulation was linked to experiencing greater acute stress related to COVID .

Read more: Why am I online? Research shows it's often about managing emotions

However, an idea that has been gaining attention recently is interpersonal emotion regulation . This means looking to others to help us regulate our emotions.

Interpersonal emotion regulation can be helpful (such as “ affective engagement ”, where someone might listen and talk about your feelings) or unhelpful (such as “ co-rumination ” or rehashing problems together), depending on the context.

In our analyses, we sought to uncover how both intrapersonal emotion regulation (ability to self-manage our own emotional states) and interpersonal emotion regulation (relying on others to help manage our emotions) accounted for the link between FOMO and problematic social media use, and FOMO and doomscrolling, respectively.

What we found – and what it might mean for the future of internet use

Our findings indicated that people who report stronger FOMO engage in problematic social media use because of difficulty regulating their emotions (intrapersonally), and they look to others for help (interpersonally).

Similarly, people who report stronger FOMO are drawn to doomscrolling because of difficulty regulating their emotions intrapersonally (within themselves). However, we found no link between FOMO and doomscrolling through interpersonal emotion regulation.

We suspect this difference may be due to doomscrolling being more of a solitary activity, occurring outside more social contexts that facilitate interpersonal regulation. For instance, there are probably fewer people with whom to share your emotions while staying up trawling through bad news.

While links between FOMO and doomscrolling have been observed before, our study is among the first to try and account for this theoretically.

We suspect the link between FOMO and doomscrolling may be more about having more of an online presence while things are happening . This would account for intrapersonal emotion regulation failing to help manage our reactions to “bad news” stories as they unfold, leading to doomscrolling.

Problematic social media use, on the other hand, involves a more complex interpersonal context. If someone is feeling the fear of being “left out” and has difficulty managing that feeling, they may be drawn to social media platforms in part to try and elicit help from others in their network.

Getting the balance right

Our findings suggest the current discussions around restricting social media use for young people , while controversial, are important. We need to balance our need for social connection – which is happening increasingly online – with the detrimental consequences associated with problematic internet use behaviours.

It is important to also consider the nature of social media platforms and how they have changed over time. For example, adolescent social media use patterns across various platforms are associated with different mental health and socialisation outcomes.

Public health policy experts and legislators have quite the challenge ahead of them here. Recent work has shown how loneliness is a contributing factor to all-cause mortality (death from any cause).

Read more: Doomscrolling is literally bad for your health. Here are 4 tips to help you stop

We have long known, too, that social connectedness is good for our mental health . In fact, last year, the World Health Organization established a Commission on Social Connection to help promote the importance of socialisation to our lives.

The recent controversy in the United States around the ownership of TikTok illustrates how central social media platforms are to our lives and ways of interacting with one another. We need to consider the rights of individuals to use them as they please, but understand that governments carry the responsibility of protecting users from harm and safeguarding their privacy.

If you feel concerned about problematic social media use or doomscrolling, you can speak to a healthcare or mental health professional. You can also call Lifeline on 13 11 14, or 13 YARN (13 92 76) to yarn with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander crisis supporters.

ConocoPhillips to acquire Marathon Oil Corporation in all-stock transaction; provides shareholder distribution update

Download .PDF

  • Acquisition of Marathon Oil Corporation is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings, cash flows and return of capital per share.
  • ConocoPhillips expects to achieve at least $500 million of run rate cost and capital savings within the first full year following the closing of the transaction.
  • Independent of the transaction, ConocoPhillips expects to increase its ordinary base dividend by 34% to 78 cents per share starting in the fourth quarter of 2024.
  • Upon closing of the transaction, ConocoPhillips expects share buybacks to be over $20 billion in the first three years, with over $7 billion in the first full year, at recent commodity prices.

HOUSTON – ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP) and Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO) announced today that they have entered into a definitive agreement pursuant to which ConocoPhillips will acquire Marathon Oil in an all-stock transaction with an enterprise value of $22.5 billion, inclusive of $5.4 billion of net debt. Under the terms of the agreement, Marathon Oil shareholders will receive 0.2550 shares of ConocoPhillips common stock for each share of Marathon Oil common stock, representing a 14.7% premium to the closing share price of Marathon Oil on May 28, 2024, and a 16.0% premium to the prior 10-day volume-weighted average price.

“This acquisition of Marathon Oil further deepens our portfolio and fits within our financial framework, adding high-quality, low cost of supply inventory adjacent to our leading U.S. unconventional position,” said Ryan Lance, ConocoPhillips chairman and chief executive officer. “Importantly, we share similar values and cultures with a focus on operating safely and responsibly to create long-term value for our shareholders. The transaction is immediately accretive to earnings, cash flows and distributions per share, and we see significant synergy potential.”

“This is a proud moment to look back on what we achieved at Marathon Oil. Powered by our dedicated employees and contractors, we built a top performing portfolio with a multi-year track record of peer-leading operational execution, strong financial results and compelling return of capital to our shareholders - all while holding true to our core values of safety and environmental excellence. ConocoPhillips is the right home to build on that legacy, offering a truly unique combination of added scale, resilience and long-term durability. With its premier global asset base, strong balance sheet and laser focus on operational excellence, ConocoPhillips’ track record of long-term investments, differentiated shareholder distributions and active portfolio management are unmatched. When combined with the global ConocoPhillips portfolio, I’m confident our assets and people will deliver significant shareholder value over the long term,” said Lee Tillman, Marathon Oil chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Transaction benefits

  • Immediately accretive: This acquisition is immediately accretive to ConocoPhillips on earnings, cash from operations, free cash flow and return of capital per share to shareholders.
  • Delivers significant cost and capital synergies: Given the adjacent nature of the acquired assets and a common operating philosophy, ConocoPhillips expects to achieve the full $500 million of cost and capital synergy run rate within the first full year following the closing of the transaction. The identified savings will come from reduced general and administrative costs, lower operating costs and improved capital efficiencies.
  • Further enhances premier Lower 48 portfolio: This acquisition will add highly complementary acreage to ConocoPhillips’ existing U.S. onshore portfolio, adding over 2 billion barrels of resource with an estimated average point forward cost of supply of less than $30 per barrel WTI.

Return of capital update

Independent of the transaction, ConocoPhillips expects to increase its ordinary base dividend by 34% to 78 cents per share starting in the fourth quarter of 2024. Upon closing of the transaction and assuming recent commodity prices, ConocoPhillips plans to:

  • Repurchase over $7 billion in shares in the first full year, up from over $5 billion standalone.
  • Repurchase over $20 billion in shares in the first three years.

“We remain committed to our differentiated cash from operations distribution framework of returning greater than 30% to our shareholders, with a track record of returning over 40% since our 2016 strategy reset,” added Lance. “We plan to raise our ordinary dividend by 34% in the fourth quarter and we will continue to target top-quartile dividend growth relative to the S&P 500 going forward. Additionally, we intend to prioritize share repurchases following the close of the transaction, with a plan to retire the equivalent amount of newly issued equity in the transaction in two to three years at recent commodity prices.”

Transaction details

The transaction is subject to the approval of Marathon Oil stockholders, regulatory clearance and other customary closing conditions. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2024.

ConocoPhillips will host a conference call today at 10 a.m. Eastern time to discuss this announcement. To listen to the call and view related presentation materials, go to  www.conocophillips.com/investor .

All statements other than statements of historical fact included or incorporated by reference in this news release, including, among other things, statements regarding the proposed business combination transaction between ConocoPhillips (“ConocoPhillips”) and Marathon Oil Corporation (“Marathon”), future events, plans and anticipated results of operations, business strategies, the anticipated benefits of the proposed transaction, the anticipated impact of the proposed transaction on the combined company’s business and future financial and operating results, the expected amount and timing of synergies from the proposed transaction, the anticipated closing date for the proposed transaction and other aspects of ConocoPhillips’ or Marathon’s operations or operating results are forward-looking statements. Words and phrases such as “ambition,” “anticipate,” “estimate,” “believe,” “budget,” “continue,” “could,” “intend,” “may,” “plan,” “potential,” “predict,” “seek,” “should,” “will,” “would,” “expect,” “objective,” “projection,” “forecast,” “goal,” “guidance,” “outlook,” “effort,” “target” and other similar words can be used to identify forward-looking statements. However, the absence of these words does not mean that the statements are not forward-looking. Where, in any forward-looking statement, ConocoPhillips or Marathon expresses an expectation or belief as to future results, such expectation or belief is expressed in good faith and believed to be reasonable at the time such forward-looking statement is made. However, these statements are not guarantees of future performance and involve certain risks, uncertainties and other factors beyond ConocoPhillips’ or Marathon’s control. Therefore, actual outcomes and results may differ materially from what is expressed or forecast in the forward-looking statements.

The following important factors and uncertainties, among others, could cause actual results or events to differ materially from those described in forward-looking statements: ConocoPhillips’ ability to successfully integrate Marathon’s businesses and technologies, which may result in the combined company not operating as effectively and efficiently as expected; the risk that the expected benefits and synergies of the proposed transaction may not be fully achieved in a timely manner, or at all; the risk that ConocoPhillips or Marathon will be unable to retain and hire key personnel; the risk associated with Marathon’s ability to obtain the approval of its stockholders required to consummate the proposed transaction and the timing of the closing of the proposed transaction, including the risk that the conditions to the transaction are not satisfied on a timely basis or at all or the failure of the transaction to close for any other reason or to close on the anticipated terms, including the anticipated tax treatment (and with respect to increases in ConocoPhillips’ share repurchase program, such increases are not intended to exceed shares issued in the transaction); the risk that any regulatory approval, consent or authorization that may be required for the proposed transaction is not obtained or is obtained subject to conditions that are not anticipated; the occurrence of any event, change or other circumstance that could give rise to the termination of the proposed transaction; unanticipated difficulties, liabilities or expenditures relating to the transaction; the effect of the announcement, pendency or completion of the proposed transaction on the parties’ business relationships and business operations generally; the effect of the announcement or pendency of the proposed transaction on the parties’ common stock prices and uncertainty as to the long-term value of ConocoPhillips’ or Marathon’s common stock; risks that the proposed transaction disrupts current plans and operations of ConocoPhillips or Marathon and their respective management teams and potential difficulties in hiring or retaining employees as a result of the proposed transaction; rating agency actions and ConocoPhillips’ and Marathon’s ability to access short- and long-term debt markets on a timely and affordable basis; changes in commodity prices, including a prolonged decline in these prices relative to historical or future expected levels; global and regional changes in the demand, supply, prices, differentials or other market conditions affecting oil and gas, including changes resulting from any ongoing military conflict, including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, and the global response to such conflict, security threats on facilities and infrastructure, or from a public health crisis or from the imposition or lifting of crude oil production quotas or other actions that might be imposed by Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and other producing countries and the resulting company or third-party actions in response to such changes; insufficient liquidity or other factors that could impact ConocoPhillips’ ability to repurchase shares and declare and pay dividends such that ConocoPhillips suspends its share repurchase program and reduces, suspends or totally eliminates dividend payments in the future, whether variable or fixed; changes in expected levels of oil and gas reserves or production; potential failures or delays in achieving expected reserve or production levels from existing and future oil and gas developments, including due to operating hazards, drilling risks or unsuccessful exploratory activities; unexpected cost increases, inflationary pressures or technical difficulties in constructing, maintaining or modifying company facilities; legislative and regulatory initiatives addressing global climate change or other environmental concerns; public health crises, including pandemics (such as COVID-19) and epidemics and any impacts or related company or government policies or actions; investment in and development of competing or alternative energy sources; potential failures or delays in delivering on ConocoPhillips’ current or future low-carbon strategy, including ConocoPhillips’ inability to develop new technologies; disruptions or interruptions impacting the transportation for ConocoPhillips’ or Marathon’s oil and gas production; international monetary conditions and exchange rate fluctuations; changes in international trade relationships or governmental policies, including the imposition of price caps, or the imposition of trade restrictions or tariffs on any materials or products (such as aluminum and steel) used in the operation of ConocoPhillips’ or Marathon’s business, including any sanctions imposed as a result of any ongoing military conflict, including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East; ConocoPhillips’ ability to collect payments when due, including ConocoPhillips’ ability to collect payments from the government of Venezuela or PDVSA; ConocoPhillips’ ability to complete any other announced or any other future dispositions or acquisitions on time, if at all; the possibility that regulatory approvals for any other announced or any future dispositions or any other acquisitions will not be received on a timely basis, if at all, or that such approvals may require modification to the terms of those transactions or ConocoPhillips’ remaining business; business disruptions following any announced or future dispositions or other acquisitions, including the diversion of management time and attention; the ability to deploy net proceeds from ConocoPhillips’ announced or any future dispositions in the manner and timeframe anticipated, if at all; potential liability for remedial actions under existing or future environmental regulations; potential liability resulting from pending or future litigation; the impact of competition and consolidation in the oil and gas industry; limited access to capital or insurance or significantly higher cost of capital or insurance related to illiquidity or uncertainty in the domestic or international financial markets or investor sentiment; general domestic and international economic and political conditions or developments, including as a result of any ongoing military conflict, including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East; changes in fiscal regime or tax, environmental and other laws applicable to ConocoPhillips’ or Marathon’s businesses; disruptions resulting from accidents, extraordinary weather events, civil unrest, political events, war, terrorism, cybersecurity threats or information technology failures, constraints or disruptions; and other economic, business, competitive and/or regulatory factors affecting ConocoPhillips’ or Marathon’s businesses generally as set forth in their filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the “SEC”). The registration statement on Form S-4 and proxy statement/prospectus that will be filed with the SEC will describe additional risks in connection with the proposed transaction. While the list of factors presented here is, and the list of factors to be presented in the registration statement on Form S-4 and proxy statement/prospectus are considered representative, no such list should be considered to be a complete statement of all potential risks and uncertainties. For additional information about other factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from those described in the forward-looking statements, please refer to ConocoPhillips’ and Marathon’s respective periodic reports and other filings with the SEC, including the risk factors contained in ConocoPhillips’ and Marathon’s most recent Quarterly Reports on Form 10-Q and Annual Reports on Form 10-K.  Forward-looking statements represent current expectations and are inherently uncertain and are made only as of the date hereof (or, if applicable, the dates indicated in such statement).  Except as required by law, neither ConocoPhillips nor Marathon undertakes or assumes any obligation to update any forward-looking statements, whether as a result of new information or to reflect subsequent events or circumstances or otherwise.

Use of Non-GAAP Financial Information and Other Terms – This news release contains certain financial measures that are not prepared in accordance with GAAP, including cash from operations (CFO), free cash flow and net debt. CFO is calculated by removing the impact from operating working capital from cash provided by operating activities. Free cash flow is CFO net of capital expenditures and investments. Net debt is total balance sheet debt less cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments. This news release also contains the terms enterprise value, cost of supply and return of capital. Enterprise value included in this release is calculated based on the sum of net debt as of March 31, 2024, and anticipated shares to be issued at the fixed exchange ratio of 0.2550 measured at ConocoPhillips' closing share price on May 28, 2024. Cost of supply is the WTI equivalent price that generates a 10 percent after-tax return on a point-forward and fully burdened basis. Fully burdened includes capital infrastructure, foreign exchange, price-related inflation, G&A and carbon tax (if currently assessed). If no carbon tax exists for the asset, carbon pricing aligned with internal energy scenarios are applied. All barrels of resource are discounted at 10 percent. Return of capital is defined as the total of the ordinary dividend, share repurchases and variable return of cash (VROC).

Cautionary Note to U.S. Investors – The SEC permits oil and gas companies, in their filings with the SEC, to disclose only proved, probable and possible reserves. We may use the term “resource” in this release that the SEC’s guidelines prohibit us from including in filings with the SEC. U.S. investors are urged to consider closely the oil and gas disclosures in our Form 10-K and other reports and filings with the SEC. Copies are available from the SEC and from the ConocoPhillips website.

'Where the chicken at?' Chipotle responds to social media claims about smaller portions

Chipotle is denying influencer reviews that claim the chain's portion sizes have gotten a lot smaller and that there's a lot less meat in menu items. popular tiktok reviewer keith lee begs to differ..

presentation for social networking

Chipotle is denying rumors circulating on social media that customers are getting significantly smaller portions of food.

Several influencers have uploaded TikTok videos claiming that the Mexican grill chain has become stingy with its servings, from its burrito sizes and chip portions to the amount of meat inside bowls.

"There have been no changes in our portion sizes, and we have reinforced proper portioning with our employees," Laurie Schalow, Chipotle's chief corporate affairs officer, said in a statement to USA TODAY on Friday. "If we did not deliver on our value, we want our guests to reach out so we can make it right."

The fast food chain did not clarify how customers will be compensated if they feel their portions were too small.

"Our intentions are to provide a great experience every time, and our meals have always been completely customizable so guests can vocalize or digitally select their desired portions when choosing from the list of real ingredients," Schalow said.

Poor review fuels portions criticism

Online food critic Keith Lee , with more than 16 million followers on TikTok, said that he no longer appreciates Chipotle the way he used to.

In Lee's May 3 video with over 2 million views, he gives disappointing reviews for a bowl and a quesadilla, commenting on its taste and quality. Lee continues to say that it's a struggle to find any chicken and that there were only a few pieces at the very bottom of the bowl.

"Where the chicken at?" he says. "This is how you know I'm not lying. I'm literally looking for a piece of chicken."

One TikTok comment with over 250,000 likes said Lee calling out the chain's servings was very necessary while another wrote: "The rise and fall of chipotle."

Frustrated guests encourage poor reviews

TikTok content creator Drew Polenske, who has more than 2.5 million followers, echoed the complaints, saying he was " sick and tired " of the portions and encouraged people to leave one-star reviews online.

"You remember peak chipotle. you know how they used to load those bowls up. They would give you enough food to feed a small village," Polenske said in a May 3 video. "And now I'll walk into Chipotle, I'll get three grains of rice and a piece of chicken if I'm lucky. I can't do it anymore."

Frustrated customers have encouraged others to walk out without paying if their food portions are unsatisfactory or to boycott the chain altogether. Other users are encouraging the "Chipotle phone method," where customers record employees serving food to ensure greater portions. A Chipotle spokesperson rejected claims that it instructs employees to only serve bigger portions when a guest is recording them.

"It actually kind of really bums me out when people, frankly, do this videoing thing," Chipotle CEO Brian Niccol told CNBC . "It's a little rude to our team members, and, you know, our team members, their desire is to give our customer a great experience."

Reactions on social media to trump verdict filled with misinformation.

After former President Donald Trump was found guilty Thursday on 34 counts of falsifying business records in a New York criminal trial, the spread of misinformation about the trial accelerated online.

The false narratives include that Trump will soon face years in prison (not entirely true as the judge will rule in July), will be ineligible to hold federal office (nope), can't even vote (he still can under New York law), and will be required to wear an ankle monitor until sentencing (also not true).

Likewise, there have been those who have tired to suggest the trial was a complete sham, but legal experts remind us that he had his day in court. Also not true is that case could be quickly overturned on appeal, as it will likely be months before an appeal will be heard.

There has also been speculation that if reelected in November, Trump will be able to pardon himself. As it is not a federal case, the president is unable to issue a pardon.

The Spread Of Misinformation Was Already Underway

Misinformation and disinformation about the case, the charges and notably the aftermath began spreading long before the verdict was read.

However, the amount of misinformation/disinformation has only reached a fever pitch—and it would seem that many aren't bothering to check what is true, what is speculation and most importantly what is simply wrong.

NSA Warns iPhone And Android Users To Turn It Off And On Again

Donald trump $300 million poorer after guilty verdict as truth social stock sinks, aurora alert should you prepare to see the northern lights this week.

Facts matter, except on social media where people are simply quick to repost what they want to be the facts.

"In this day, with more access to information than ever before, we have to be judicious with what we read, listen to or watch," warned Amy Bonebright, assistant professor of journalism at Liberty University. "We're at the threshold of the Internet scales being tipped towards what you see online being purposefully false or negligently untruthful, and once again it's up to the user to be discerning."

More Than A Need To Believe

The spread of misinformation and even disinformation on social media is hardly new, and our deep political divide has certainly turned the platforms into echo chambers for those with strong opinions on such matters. However, the Trump verdict is notable in how so much of it is gaining traction so quickly.

"This is a rich context in which misinformation can occur. One of the factors that can promote misinformation is confusion, and a situation like this where there are no priors is inherently confusing," explained Dr. Cliff Lampe, professor of information and associate dean for academic affairs in the School of Information at the University of Michigan.

"Another key element to promote information is highly emotional events, which this seems to be on either side of the political spectrum," Lampe added. "When people consume and share information from an emotional place, they tend to short circuit the slower, more deliberative types of thought that can catch and stop misinformation."

Misinformation may also tend to spread faster, in part because people may be willing to accept the first news they hear as fact. Later corrections that counter what has been established as the truth need deeper explanation, often with far more details.

"There's quite a bit of research in studies of disasters showing the misinformation can spread very quickly facilitated by social media, and that corrections are slower to catch up and often never replace the original bad information," said Lampe. "An outcome like this has many characteristics of a disaster—a surprising event, highly emotional, consequential but in ways that aren't well understood, and technically complicated."

Purposeful Disinformation

Many of the posts from supporters and critics following the verdict verged on the outlandish and arguably went beyond simply being "misinformation," and instead could be classified as "disinformation" that was meant to confuse matters and sow anger and dissent.

"As this case has consequences on election outcomes that people care deeply about, we can expect to see quite a bit of disinformation, which is bad information purposely spread rather than erroneously spread," suggested Lampe. "Groups on either side of the issue have incentives to use disinformation to moderate what this outcome actually means for the election."

What this means for the 2024 election has yet to be seen, but we can look to the recent election in Russia as a possible guide unfortunately, where disinformation has become the normal part of politics.

"You can see how this goes in Russia where the strategy is to spread so many lies the population can no longer tell what is true or false and thus can't organize a resistance," said technology industry analyst Rob Enderle of the Enderle Group.

"That strategy has helped Putin remain in power," Enderle added. "But any populace that is so broadly misled can't make rational decisions and thus this undermines the very foundation of democracy because it eliminates the ability of the voters to make decisions in their own self-interest benefiting those that otherwise wouldn't be elected and potentially removing, as it did in Russia, the viability of elections, turning them from a critical democratic process to national theater. Doing this should be considered an insurrection as it cripples the government's ability to assure the democratic process."
