Felix Scholarships

Eligibility, how to apply.

The Felix Scholarship enables outstanding students from India to pursue graduate studies in any subject at the University of Oxford, the University of Reading and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (SOAS). Felix has been supporting students at Oxford since 1991. The scholarships are administered by the three partner universities, with the support of the Felix Trustees. Please see the Felix Scholarship website for more information.

The scholarship will cover 100% of course fees, a grant for living costs (around £17,800) and one return flight from India to the UK. Awards are made for the full duration of your fee liability for the agreed course.

At Oxford, one award is also made each year to a non-Indian student who is ordinarily resident in a low income country outside India. For more information about the non-Indian scholarship, see the Eligibility section on this page.

Scholarship outcomes

Decisions are expected to be made by the end of May 2024. If you have not heard from us by this time, then please assume that your application has been unsuccessful. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we regret that we are unable to contact unsuccessful applicants individually or provide feedback on applications.

To be eligible for both the Indian and the non-Indian scholarship, you must be applying to start a new, full-time master's course or full-time DPhil course at Oxford. You must not have previously studied a course at the same level as the course to which you are applying (i.e. if you already have a master's degree, you will not be considered for this scholarship if you are applying for another master's course). You must be unable to take up your place at Oxford without financial assistance.

Indian scholarship

In addition, for the Indian scholarship, the following eligibility criteria apply:

• You must be a national of and ordinarily resident in India;
• You must have a first-class undergraduate or master's degree from an Indian university;
• You must not hold a degree from a university outside of India (this rule does not apply to study undertaken whilst in receipt of a Felix Scholarship); and
• You are expected to return to India after completing your studies.

Non-Indian scholarship

One award is made each year to a non-Indian student who is a national of and ordinarily resident in a country (outside of India) which is categorized as Other Low Income Countries or Least Developed Countries on the DAC List of ODA Recipients .

In addition, for the non-Indian scholarship, the following eligibility criteria apply:

• You should have a first-class undergraduate degree;
• You must not already hold a degree from a university outside of your home country (this rule does not apply to study undertaken whilst in receipt of a Felix Scholarship); and 
• You are expected to return to your home county after completing your studies.

Both scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Applicants who hold deferred offers to start in 2024-25 are not eligible to be considered for either scholarship.

There is no separate application process: in order to be considered, you must submit your application for graduate study by the relevant December/January deadline for your course. See the  Courses  page for the deadline applicable to your course.

We will use the details you insert in the ‘Nationality and ordinary residence’ section of the graduate application form to assess your nationality and country of ordinary residence. To be eligible for consideration for this scholarship, applicants must be successful in being offered a place on their course after consideration of applications received by the relevant December/January deadline for the course. Course applications which are held over after the December/January deadline to be re-evaluated against applications received by the March deadline or course applications which have been put on a waiting list are not eligible for scholarship consideration. 

Applicants who are shortlisted for the Indian scholarship may be asked to complete a short questionnaire before being invited for interview in India. There is no interview for the non-Indian scholarship.

• The student should be an Indian resident for a minimum of six months prior to application and should be a first-class degree holder from any recognized institution in India.
• If you have completed a master’s degree from abroad, you are not eligible to apply.
• The candidate should have already been admitted for their PhD degree at the time of application. The maximum age limit at the time of application is 30 years.
• The PhD scholarships provide grants of up to 100,000 USD, for covering the tuition fees, living costs, health insurance and one-way travel allowance. In case the total cost of the study is expected to be more than the maximum amount provided under this scholarship, the student is required to show a proof of their ability to cover the additional costs.

TC Global reserves the right to refuse registration of, or cancel a User Name at its sole discretion. You will immediately notify TC Global in writing of any unauthorized use of your account, or other account related security breach of which you are aware.

You represent and warrant that if you are an individual, you are of legal age to form a binding contract, or that if you are registering on behalf of an entity or a minor, that you are lawfully authorized to enter into, and bind the entity or yourself (as the legal guardian of the minor) to, these Terms of Use and register for the Service. The Service is not available to individuals who are younger than 10 years old. If you use a mobile device, please be aware that your carrier's normal rates and fees, such as text messaging and data charges, will still apply. TC Global Content

The Service contains Content specifically provided by TC Global or its partners and such Content is protected by copyrights, trademarks, service marks, patents, trade secrets or other proprietary rights and laws, as applicable. You shall abide by and maintain all copyright notices, information, and restrictions contained in any Content accessed through the Service.

Subject to these Terms of Use, TC Global grants each user of the Site and/or Service a worldwide, non-exclusive, non-sub licensable and non-transferable license to use, modify and reproduce the Content, solely for personal, non-commercial use. Use, reproduction, modification, distribution or storage of any Content for other than personal, non-commercial use is expressly prohibited without prior written permission from TC Global, or from the copyright holder identified in such Content's copyright notice, as applicable. You understand that all information publicly posted or privately transmitted through the Site is the sole responsibility of the person from whom such Content originated; that TC Global will not be liable for any errors or omissions in any Content; and that TC Global cannot guarantee the identity of any other users with whom you may interact in the course of using the Service.

You should be aware that the opinions expressed in the Content in User Submissions are theirs alone and do not reflect the opinions of TC Global. TC Global is not responsible for the accuracy of any of the information supplied in User Submissions or in relation to any comments that are posted.

When you delete your User Submissions, they will be removed from the Service. Additionally, you agree not to:

• make any libelous or defamatory comments or postings to or against anyone;

• Any Content uploaded by you shall be subject to relevant laws and may disabled, or and may be subject to investigation under appropriate laws. Furthermore, if you are found to be in non-compliance with the laws and regulations, these terms, or the privacy policy of the Site, we may terminate your account/block your access to the Site and we reserve the right to remove any non-compliant Content uploaded by you.

You hereby agree that TC Global may place such advertising and promotions on the TC Global Services or on, about, or in conjunction with your Content. When you access third party websites, you do so at your own risk. Termination

TC Global may terminate your access to all or any part of the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice, effective immediately, which may result in the forfeiture and destruction of all information associated with your membership. Save to the extent required by law, TC Global has no special relationship with or fiduciary duty to you. You acknowledge that TC Global has no control over, and no duty to take any action regarding: which users gain access to the Service; what Content you access via the Service; what effects the Content may have on you; how you may interpret or use the Content; or what actions you may take as a result of having been exposed to the Content.

You release TC Global from all liability for you having acquired or not acquired Content through the Service. The Service may contain, or direct you to websites containing, information that some people may find offensive or inappropriate. Governing Law

A printed version of these Terms of Use and of any notice given in electronic form shall be admissible in judicial or administrative proceedings based upon or relating to these Terms of Use to the same extent and subject to the same conditions as other business documents and records originally generated and maintained in printed form. You and TC Global agree that any cause of action arising out of or related to the Service must commence within one (1) year after the cause of action arose; otherwise, such cause of action is permanently barred.

Terms of Use and all other policies available on this Service shall be interpreted and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms of Use and/ or other policies available on this App, including any question regarding its existence, validity or termination, shall be referred to and finally resolved by arbitration administered by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre ("SIAC") in accordance with the Arbitration Rules of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre ("SIAC Rules") for the time being in force, which rules are deemed to be incorporated by reference in this clause. The Tribunal shall consist of 3 arbitrators. The seat and venue of Arbitration shall be Singapore and the language of proceedings shall be English. Subject to the foregoing, the Courts of Singapore shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes relating to the subject matter, herein.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, if a dispute arises with respect to the validity, scope, enforceability, inventorship, ownership, infringement, breach or unauthorised use of any patent, trademark, copyright or other intellectual property right or any non-proprietary data owned and/or controlled by TC Global, whether or not arising from the Terms of Use, such dispute (at the option of TC Global) shall not be submitted to arbitration and instead, TC Global shall be free to initiate litigation, including but not limited to a claim for interim injunctive relief, in a court of competent jurisdiction, in any country or other jurisdiction in which such rights apply.

Integration and Severability

These Terms of Use are the entire agreement between you and TC Global with respect to the Service and use of the Site, Service, Content or User Submissions, and supersede all prior or contemporaneous communications and proposals (whether oral, written or electronic) between you and TC Global with respect to the Site. If any provision of these Terms of Use is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that these Terms of Use will otherwise remain in full force and effect and enforceable. The failure of either party to exercise in any respect any right provided for herein shall not be deemed a waiver of any further rights hereunder. Waiver of compliance in any particular instance does not mean that we will waive compliance in the future. TC Global may also impose limits on certain features and services or restrict your access to parts or all of the Service without notice or liability. If any provision of these Terms is held to be illegal, invalid or unenforceable, in whole or in part, under any law, such provision or part thereof shall to that extent be deemed not to form part of these Terms but the legality, validity and enforceability of the other provisions in these Terms shall not be affected. Assessing your undergraduate application

We welcome applications from all suitably qualified prospective students. We want to recruit students with the very best academic merit, potential and motivation, regardless of their background. 

We review each application carefully, taking into account all of the information provided on your UCAS application form, including:

• academic achievement (including predicted and achieved grades)
• subject combinations
• personal statement
• teacher’s reference
• educational circumstances

In terms of academic achievement, our entry requirements vary by programme, and are listed on the individual  undergraduate degree programme webpages .

Our entry requirements and usual standard offers for each programme for students applying with GCE A levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) are listed on these pages. We also consider applications from students with a range of other UK qualifications including BTECs, Foundation Courses and Access to HE Diplomas ( see further information on these qualifications ) as well as a wide range of international qualifications.

Competition for places

Competition for places at the School is high. This means that even if you are predicted or if you achieve the grades that meet our usual standard offer, this will not guarantee you an offer of admission. Usual standard offers are intended only as a guide, and in some cases applicants will be asked for grades which differ from this.

Undergraduate entry requirements

Equivalent in indian higher secondary school certificate/standard 12 (from the cbse - including the all india senior school certificate examination - and cisce boards only) with gce a levels.

Applicants studying under other Indian exam boards should have at least 80-85% in each subject, together with one of our other accepted international qualifications .

Graduate entry requirements

Graduate entry requirements for applicants from india, taught master's programmes .

To be considered for admission to a taught master's programme (upper second class equivalent), we would normally require a bachelor's degree (BA, BSc, BCom or BTech) awarded after a minimum of three years of study, or the Bachelor of Medicine with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.3/4, 5/7, 6/8, 7/9 or 8/10. Where there is only a percentage grade available, we require 65 per cent.

To be considered for admission to a taught master's programme (first-class equivalent), we would normally require a bachelor's degree (BA, BSc, BCom or BTEch) awarded after a minimum of three years of study, or the Bachelor of Medicine with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5/4, 5.5/7, 6.5/8, 7.5/9 or 8.5/10.

Research programmes (MPhil/MRes/PhD)

To be considered for admission to a research programme, we would normally require a master's degree MA, MSc or MCom) awarded after a minimum of two years, or a master's in a professional subject awarded after a minimum of one-and-a-half-years) with a CPA/GPA of 3.3/4, 5/7, 6/8, 7/9, or 7.5/10.

Fees and funding

Every student is charged a fee for their programme. For undergraduate students, there is a fee for each year of their programme.

Fees cover registration, teaching, classes and individual supervision, first entry to examinations, the use of the Library and membership of the Students' Union. They also normally cover teaching and the use of student common rooms at other colleges of the University of London, if your programme has intercollegiate arrangements.

Fees do not cover living costs or travel or fieldwork. If you receive an offer, you will be informed of the relevant tuition fee amount in your offer letter.

Fees are fixed each spring for the following session only, and will be published in the  Table of Fees .

Tuition fee amounts

For undergraduate students, the individual tuition fee amount is available on the individual  undergraduate degree programme webpages .

For graduate students, tuition fee amounts are listed on the individual  graduate degree programme webpages .

In some cases the amount of tuition fees you will need to pay, and any financial support you are eligible for, will depend on whether you are classified as a home or overseas student, otherwise known as your fee status.

LSE assesses your fee status based on guidelines provided by the Department of Education.

Life in London is distinct. The lifestyle here can be like nothing you’ve ever experienced before. It’s a city with a beating heart that students from around the world treasure. That’s why we think it’s no surprise that a place this diverse has a huge international student population. The number of Indian students in London has been significantly increasing year after year. The city is welcoming more and more Indian students with open arms than it ever has before.

So, how is life in London for Indian students? If you’re a student moving to London (or just thinking about it), don’t miss our top things to know about living in London as an Indian student to help you get settled.

How to Adapt to the Weather

You may have already heard that the weather in London can be unpredictable. This is possibly an understatement! Even though we do experience regular seasons here in the city, where temperatures are generally an accurate reflection of the time of year, grey skies and rainy days are highly likely at any time of the year. The good news is that it usually only pours for a few moments before the showers stop. It’s not often that London sees rain that stretches on for hours.

What Clothes to Pack

Despite this, you’ll want to make sure you have access to warm clothes (think jumpers, scarfs, hats, and gloves), as well as a waterproof coat or an umbrella. It’s also important to bring the right footwear. In the summer, sandals and flip flops are a great option. But in winter, spring or autumn, trainers or boots are a much better option.

How to Prepare for Seasonal Changes

Even though the weather might be tricky to adjust to at first, each season blesses the inner city with its unique charm. When the autumn leaves fall, parks will pop at the sight of red and yellow. In Spring, pink blossom will fall to the ground. In summer, the sun will beam across the city, making the historic buildings look even more fascinating and the skyscrapers shinier than ever. It doesn’t often snow here in winter, but when it does, a white blanket will cover the city floor. Spending your studying years here, you’ll experience the beauty that can be found in every season! To prepare for the seasonal changes, it’s best to have a wide selection of clothes available that you can wear at any time throughout the year.

When are the Seasons?

For a recap on when the seasons hit in London, here’s a handy guide:

April to May with mild temperatures where t-shirts and jumpers are often best

June to August with warmer temperatures where shorts, dresses and t-shirts can be worn

September to November with cooler temperatures where jumpers and jackets are best

December to March with very cold temperatures where coats, gloves, hats, and scarves are best

Understanding the English language

The English language is fruitful. Since you are already looking to study in London, you’ll already have a high level of spoken English skills that will be more than sufficient in getting you by in daily life. However, living and studying in the city will no doubt broaden your vocabulary and refine your fluency in the language. You’ll enhance your abilities to socialise in English and develop a greater sense of understanding of the language. The fluency you will develop during your studying years in London will help you master the social skills you need for future interviews, workplaces and in the international business world.

That being said, slang is popular here and Londoners are always coming up with new ways of describing things. As an Indian student living in London , you’ll gradually learn new terminology for a whole host of objects, places, and feelings. If you’re unsure of any specific words, people in London are more than happy to explain what they mean. Alternatively, you can always ask a classmate what slang words mean or check online for other meanings.

Arranging your Domestics

Although domestic help is available in the city, it can be expensive. Grabbing a takeaway is an enjoyable treat for a night in with your classmates. However, the cost of a takeaway can be much higher in London than if you cook for yourself. Similarly, laundry delivery is a rare service for Indian students l iving in London to purchase, since it can be expensive. To manage your expenditure, it’s a good idea to do as much of your domestics as possible by yourself.

How to do Laundry

Laundry delivery services are available almost anywhere in the city. But this is considered a luxury in London and is often used by people with lots of expendable income. The cost of having your laundry carried out for you every week may be much more expensive than in India. Doing your laundry yourself will likely be the cheapest option. You could use the washing machine at your student accommodation if you have one, or head to a laundrette to use a machine there. At a laundrette, you can expect to pay around £10 (about 1,000 rupees) per wash load when you use their washing machine and tumble dryer services.

How to do Food Shopping

If there are certain meats that you do not eat, then London sells a range of meat choices in almost every supermarket. It’s good to know that some supermarkets sell higher priced food than others. This is sometimes linked to the quality (for example, what cut of meat it is), but since the UK has remarkably high food standards, the higher priced food is usually just because it’s a high-end brand selling the item. There are lots of cheaper brands or unbranded foods for sale in London’s supermarkets that will still be of a high quality. 

As a rough guide, food in supermarkets like M&S and Waitrose will usually be sold for a higher price. Shops such as Tesco’s, Asda’s, The Co-Operative, and Sainsbury’s will be averagely priced. For cheaper food that’s still good quality, Lidl and Aldi are good options. You’ll also find lots of independent supermarkets across London that stock food at varying prices. In any supermarket, you can usually find the cheapest products stacked on the lower shelves.

All supermarkets will let you browse the shelves and some of the larger stores will have delivery services available where you can order your food online.

Where to Find Authentic Indian Stores

As an Indian student in London, we bet you’ll crave a taste of home-cooked delicacy every now and then. But look no further, we’ve got a list of stores where you can find delicious Indian food to satisfy those cravings! Most of the large, UK supermarkets won’t sell Halal meat or many authentic Indian spices. However, there are many international supermarkets scattered around London that will. Likewise, independent Indian food stores are common. Some of the best shops to find Indian food in London are places like ‘The Indian Spice Shop’ in Euston, ‘Bhavin’s’ in Tooting and ‘Taj Stores’ on Brick Lane. If you would prefer not to travel too far for your spices, then Sainsbury’s is renowned for having a good collection of Indian foods.

Budgeting and Managing your Finances

London has so much to offer international students , but it can come at a high price. Everything in London can be expensive – from a small cup of coffee to your monthly rent. There isn’t much you can buy for a pound (which works out about 102 rupees), but there are ways to enjoy the city without missing out. Here are our top tips for Indian students living in London to help with managing your finances.

Travel Cheaper

When living in London, you will definitely want to make use of the public transport network to get around. Hopping on a bus or a train can take you almost anywhere in the city – and beyond! Even as an Indian student, you can apply for a Student 18+ Oyster Card to travel cheaper than other commuters. Alternatively, you can purchase a railcard for 34% off off-peak fares and daily caps on your travel expenditure.

Find Ways to Save Money

There are lots of ways to save money while living in London without scrimping on the fun. You can take advantage of the free stuff – like sightseeing, visiting parks, exploring museums and attending outdoor cinemas. When you are paying for an experience, check to see if you can use your student discount or if pre-booking online gives you a cheaper price. 

It is not just the big attractions that offer students money off to enjoy the city, lots of restaurants and cafés will save their best prices for those studying in the city. They may not always advertise it, but you can ask if they will accept a student discount card. If you are heading on a night out, then London has a ton of student-friendly bars with free entry, happy hours, and hot deals.

Familiarise Yourself with the Currency

As best as you can, try and find ways to quickly familiarise yourself with the currency. As an Indian student living in London, you may need to calculate the conversion rates on a daily basis to establish whether something is cheap or expensive when you first move. Since one pound is around 100 rupees, you could work in multiples of ten in order to quickly decipher the costs of something.

Shop Around for the Best Deals

When in London, you’ll notice that some places will charge more money for the same thing. This highly depends on the shop, the brand, and the area you are in. If you are on a budget, make sure you shop around for the best deal or look online to see if there is anything cheaper. If you are unsure about the price of something, ask a friend for a guide about what you should expect to pay for certain things.

Set Budgets

The best thing you can do to manage your finances without sacrificing your social life is to set a budget. This will help you keep an eye on your expenditure and monitor the impact of conversion rates. Try and map out a clear plan about how much money you have for food, travel, studies, rent and socialising each month. With your newly opened UK bank account, you will likely have access to an online banking app. Nowadays, many of these have in-app spending trackers that you can use free of charge. They can help you monitor your outgoings and add ‘categories’ to your expenditure.

Getting Involved in Sports and Fitness

London is a great city for almost every sporting event you can imagine! Home to many major sporting events, you can find football matches, rugby games, tennis tournaments, cycling events and cricket matches at world-famous venues – from Wembley Stadium to Wimbledon. 

If you’re a huge cricket fan, then Lord’s and The Oval are two of the most prestigious grounds found anywhere in the world – and they’ll be right on your doorstep! Alternatively, you can find a park that hosts amateur cricket matches and watch as many games as you like free of charge! 

Joining a sporting club is also a great way of making friends in the big city . Search online or ask around for a sporting and fitness event near you.

Connecting with the Community

London is an inclusive city with a vast Indian community. There are lots of places where you can find authentic Indian cuisine, clothing, and home décor items, as well as an abundance of activities like Bollywood bar nights and dance groups.

Where to Buy Authentic Indian Clothing

In all parts of London, you can find stores selling authentic Indian clothing. From luxurious international brands like O’nitaa and countless independent stores selling sarees, salwar suits, lehengas, kurta’s and lots more.

Indian restaurants and entertainment

When in London, you will be able to find student-friendly bars that host Bollywood nights out and Indian dance groups where you can show off your skills. For the absolute best of Indian cuisine, hundreds of authentic restaurants scatter the city’s streets. For a cheap Indian meal with bring-your-own-bottle deals, Brick Lane is an ideal choice to explore the food options available.

Networking Organisations

For a ‘home away from home’, INSA (Indian National Students Association) is a not-for-profit organisation designed to create a welcoming network for Indian students living in the UK. Joining is free of charge if you attend any university in the UK and the network will help connect you with other Indian students living in London, while helping to promote your wellbeing.

Study Abroad: UK University Offers Scholarships Worth 7,500 Pounds To Indian Students

Queen's University Belfast, a public research university located in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, has introduced the India Academic Excellence Award 2024 scholarship for Indian students starting their full-time undergraduate studies at Queen's University Belfast in September 2024. There are a total of 15 scholarships available.

Application Process

Interested and eligible students can submit their applications by visiting the official website . The deadline for submitting application forms is June 7, 3pm.

Eligibility Criteria

• Students applying for this scholarship must have graduated from an Indian school and be residents of India.
• They must have secured an overall 85% or above score in their 12th-grade (CBSE or equivalent) examinations.
• The grant offers a reduction of 7,500 pounds (Rs 7.92 lakh) in tuition fees for the first year of study.
• The scholarship is granted exclusively for the first year and subtracted from the total tuition fees at enrollment.
• Applicants must be self-financed and recognised as international fee-paying students, paying the full international tuition rate.
• Additionally, qualified candidates need to provide an essay of up to 750 words detailing their reasons for choosing to study at Queen's University Belfast and how the programme will assist them in achieving their career goals

Hyderabad University invites applications for PhD admissions

The last date for the online application is june 18 and students can download the admit card online from june 28 onwards..

The University of Hyderabad today started the application process for admission to PhD through the entrance examination. The University is opening admissions for select courses like translation studies, English language studies, health sciences, materials engineering, and nanoscience technology.

Interested candidates have to apply online through the official website of the Hyderabad University and for more details on the courses offered, eligibility, prescribed fee, reservation policy, and prospectus.

The last date to register is June 18 and the students can download the admit card online from June 28 onwards. The examination will be conducted on July 7 and students will get only Hyderabad as the exam centre because exams will be held on the University of Hyderabad campus.

PhD admissions to the University of Hyderabad for other courses except the above-mentioned will be through UGC NET, CSIR-NET, 2024 and the schedule for the same will be notified separately. The list of shortlisted candidates will be prepared by the University of Hyderabad to call them for the final interview. The list will be published on the official portal.

The subjects the PhD programmes admission will be based on UGC NET and CSIR NET are Maths, applied maths, computer science, physics, communication, education, chemistry, biochemistry, plant sciences, English, animal biology, philosophy, Hindi, Telugu, Urdu, and other 28 subjects. Interested students can check the list of subjects from the official website.

The QS World University Rankings 2025 are now live ! 

Being the first of its kind to incorporate both employability and sustainability factors into the methodology , the QS World University Rankings provides the higher education sector, governments and students a reliable rankings system that identifies the world’s leading universities in a range of performance metrics. 

This year’s ranking is the largest – featuring 1,500 universities from 106 countries and territories across the globe. For the thirteenth consecutive year Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US has placed first. 

Who are the top ten universities in the QS World University Rankings 2025? 

1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), US 

2. Imperial College London, UK 

3. University of Oxford, UK 

4. Harvard University, US 

5. University of Cambridge, UK 

6. Stanford University, US 

7. ETH Zürich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Switzerland 

8. National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore 

9. University College London, UK 

10. California Institute of Technology (Caltech), US 

Notably, Imperial College London has moved up four places – the biggest improvement among the top ten.  Their progress is attributed to several factors, including their improvement in the ‘Sustainability’ category, (scoring 99.7 out of 100 overall) and in various research metrics including ‘Citations per faculty’, which they earned 86.5 last year, compared to a total of 93.9 this year, for example. 

New entrants  

There are 21 newly ranked institutions in the QS World University Rankings 2025, with the highest debutant being the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) in the United Arab Emirates, with a ranking of 485th – the University scored 100 in indicators ‘International students’ and ‘International faculty’.  

Global highlights of the QS World University Rankings 2025 

China and India’s universities have seen the biggest upward movements for both the number of institutions increasing their ranking position and for the number of significant moves (defined as 10 places or more) in the QS World University Rankings 2025.

Other highlights in institutional performance globally are: 

The UK’s strongest performance is in the ‘International Student Ratio’ indicator. It achieves the world’s second-highest average score among countries with ten or more ranked universities, behind only Saudi Arabia – underscoring the global appeal of UK higher education institutions and their ability to attract a diverse student body. 

The US continues to boast one of the world’s most renowned higher education systems for their reputation, according to employers and academics – this is clear in the ranking as four of the top ten universities, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, Stanford University and University of California, Berkeley (UCB) earn 100 in the ‘Academic reputation’ indicator. 

Canada  

Canadian universities are performing exceptionally in ‘Sustainability’, with two universities among the world’s top five, including the world’s most sustainable institution, the University of Toronto . 

Australia  

Three Australian institutions are in the world’s top 20 – with the University of Melbourne and the University of Sydney each climbing one position to 13th and 18th respectively. Australia also dominates in ‘International research’ in the Asia-Pacific region, claiming nine of the top 10 positions. 

Africa  

South Africa holds the African continent’s top four positions in the rankings – with the University of Cape Town (ranked 171st) being the continent’s highest-ranked institution, an improvement of two places from the previous year. Cairo University (Egypt) completed the top five in Africa, ranking 350th globally. 

Latin America  

Latin America has four representatives in the top 100, one from each of its four largest economies: Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA) in Argentina (71st); Universidade de São Paulo in Brazil (92nd); Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC) in Chile (93rd); and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico (94th).
