പെലെ; കാല്‍പ്പന്തിന്റെ മജ്ജയും മാംസവുമായിരുന്ന രണ്ടക്ഷരം

അഭിനാഥ് തിരുവലത്ത്, 30 december 2022, 10:54 am ist, പെലെ എന്ന പേര് സ്‌കൂളിലെ സഹപാഠികള്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കളിയാക്കിവിളിച്ചതായിരുന്നു. തുര്‍ക്കി ഭാഷയില്‍ അഴുക്ക് എന്നര്‍ഥംവരുന്ന പദവുമായി പെലെ എന്ന വാക്കിന് സാമ്യമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഈ പേരിലായിരുന്നു കുട്ടികള്‍ അന്ന് പെലെയെ കളിയാക്കിയിരുന്നത്. എന്നാല്‍ തങ്ങള്‍ കളിയാക്കി വിളിച്ച പേര് പില്‍ക്കാലത്ത് ഫുട്ബോള്‍ ലോകത്ത് ഒരു ബ്രാന്‍ഡായി മാറുമെന്ന് അന്നവര്‍ ചിന്തിച്ചിട്ടുപോലുമുണ്ടാകില്ല.

ലോ കത്ത് ഫുട്ബോള്‍ എന്ന കളിയെ കുറിച്ച് കേട്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്തവര്‍ പോലും ഒരുപക്ഷേ പെലെ എന്ന ഇതിഹാസത്തേക്കുറിച്ച് കേട്ടിരിക്കും. സോഷ്യല്‍ മീഡിയയും വാര്‍ത്താമാധ്യമങ്ങളും ഇന്നത്തെ ആഗോളരൂപം പ്രാപിക്കുന്നതിനു മുമ്പ് ഫുട്ബോള്‍ എന്ന മാന്ത്രികതയിലൂടെ ലോകം കീഴടക്കിയ താരം.

എഡ്സണ്‍ അരാന്റസ് ഡൊ നാസിമെന്റോ എന്ന പെലെ പില്‍ക്കാലത്ത് ലോക ഫുട്ബോളിലെ ചക്രവര്‍ത്തിയായി വളര്‍ന്നത് കാല്‍പ്പന്തുകളിയോടുള്ള സമര്‍പ്പണം ഒന്നുകൊണ്ടു മാത്രമായിരുന്നു.

1940 ഒക്ടോബര്‍ 23-ന് ബ്രസീലിലെ റിയോ ഡി ജനൈറോയില്‍ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 200 മൈല്‍ ദൂരമുള്ള മിനാസ് ജെറൈസിലെ ട്രെസ് കോറക്കോസില്‍, ജോവോ റാമോസ് ഡൊ നാസിമെന്റോ ഡൊണീഞ്ഞ്യോ - സെലെസ്റ്റേ അരാന്റസ് ദമ്പതികളുടെ മകനായാണ് പെലെയുടെ ജനനം. ട്രെസ് കോറക്കോസ് എന്ന വാക്കിനര്‍ഥം മൂന്ന് ഹൃദയം എന്നാണ്.

കുടുംബത്തിലെ മൂത്ത കുട്ടിയായിരുന്നു പെലെ. ബള്‍ബ് കണ്ടുപിടിച്ച തോമസ് ആല്‍വ എഡിസണോടുള്ള ആദരസൂചകമായാണ് ഡൊണീഞ്ഞ്യോ - സെലെസ്റ്റേ അരാന്റസ് ദമ്പതികള്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ മകന് എഡ്സണ്‍ അരാന്റസ് ഡൊ നാസിമെന്റോ എന്ന പേര് നല്‍കിയത്. പില്‍ക്കാലത്ത് ഫുട്ബോള്‍ ലോകത്തേത്തന്നെ ആ മകന്‍ തന്റെ പേരിലെ രണ്ടു വാക്കിലേക്ക് ചുരുക്കി.

ഡിക്കോ, പെലെ എന്നീ പേരുകളാണ് ചെറുപ്പത്തില്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തിനുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. കുടുംബം അവനെ ഓമനിച്ച് വിളിച്ചിരുന്ന ഡിക്കോ എന്ന പേരിന്റെ അര്‍ഥം യോദ്ധാവിന്റെ മകന്‍ എന്നായിരുന്നു. പെലെ എന്ന പേര് സ്‌കൂളിലെ സഹപാഠികള്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കളിയാക്കിവിളിച്ചതായിരുന്നു. തുര്‍ക്കി ഭാഷയില്‍ അഴുക്ക് എന്നര്‍ഥംവരുന്ന പദവുമായി പെലെ എന്ന വാക്കിന് സാമ്യമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഈ പേരിലായിരുന്നു കുട്ടികള്‍ അന്ന് പെലെയെ കളിയാക്കിയിരുന്നത്. എന്നാല്‍ തങ്ങള്‍ കളിയാക്കി വിളിച്ച പേര് പില്‍ക്കാലത്ത് ഫുട്ബോള്‍ ലോകത്ത് ഒരു ബ്രാന്‍ഡായി മാറുമെന്ന് അന്നവര്‍ ചിന്തിച്ചിട്ടുപോലുമുണ്ടാകില്ല.

ഈ കളിയാക്കലുകളെല്ലാം സഹിച്ച് പെലെ പുഞ്ചിരിക്കുമായിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ ഇടയ്ക്ക് ആ കുട്ടിയുടെ ക്ഷമയും നശിക്കുമായിരുന്നു. ഹിബ്രു ഭാഷയില്‍ പെലെ എന്നാല്‍ 'അദ്ഭുതം' എന്നാണ് അര്‍ഥം. അവനെ പ്രകോപിക്കാനാണ് അന്ന് കുട്ടികള്‍ പെലെ എന്ന പേര് വിളിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ഒരിക്കല്‍ ക്ഷമ നശിച്ച് കുഞ്ഞ് പെലെ തന്നെ കളിയാക്കിയ സഹപാഠികളില്‍ ഒരാളുടെ മൂക്കിടിച്ച് തകര്‍ത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. അന്ന് സ്‌കൂളില്‍ നിന്ന് രണ്ടു ദിവസം അവനെ പുറത്തിരുത്തി.

ഇന്നത്തെ ഫുട്ബോള്‍ രാജാവിന് പക്ഷേ ചെറുപ്പത്തില്‍ പൈലറ്റാകാനായിരുന്നു മോഹം. തന്റെ ചെറിയ വീടിന്റെ മുകളില്‍കൂടി പോകുന്ന വിമാനങ്ങള്‍ ആ കുട്ടി അദ്ഭുതത്തോടെ നോക്കിനില്‍ക്കുമായിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ കുട്ടിക്കാലത്തെ ഈ മോഹം പെലെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചതിനു പിന്നില്‍ ഒരു വിമാനാപകടമായിരുന്നു. അക്കാലത്ത് കുഞ്ഞ് പെലെയുടെ വീടിന് അധികം അകലെയല്ലാത്ത ഒരിടത്ത് ഒരു വിമാനം തകര്‍ന്നുവീണു. പൈലറ്റിനും അതിനുള്ളിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന എല്ലാ യാത്രക്കാര്‍ക്കും ജീവന്‍ നഷ്ടമായി. തകര്‍ന്നു കിടക്കുന്ന വിമാനം കാണാന്‍ പെലെയും പോയിരുന്നു. പൈലറ്റാകണമെന്ന മോഹം അതോടെ കുഞ്ഞ് പെലെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

കടുത്ത ദാരിദ്ര്യമായിരുന്നു കുട്ടിക്കാലത്ത് പെലെ നേരിട്ടത്. അതിനാല്‍ തന്നെ ഒരു ഫുട്ബോള്‍ സ്വന്തമാക്കുക എന്നത് അവന്റെ വിദൂര സ്വപ്നങ്ങളില്‍ പോലും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. സോക്സില്‍ കടലാസുകള്‍ നിറച്ച് പന്തുപോലെയാക്കിയാണ് പെലെ ഫുട്ബോളിലേക്ക് പിച്ചവെയ്ക്കുന്നത്. പെലെയുടെ പിതാവ് ഡൊണീഞ്ഞ്യോ ഒരു പ്രാദേശിക ഫുട്ബോള്‍ താരമായിരുന്നു. പെലെയുടെ കരിയറിലെ ആദ്യ പരിശീലകനും അദ്ദേഹം തന്നെ. നിരവധി ചെറിയ ക്ലബ്ബുകള്‍ക്കായി ബൂട്ടുകെട്ടിയ താരമായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.

ഡൊണീഞ്ഞ്യോ ഫുട്ബോള്‍ കളിച്ച് സമ്പാദിക്കുന്ന തുച്ഛമായ വരുമാനത്തിലായിരുന്നു കുടുംബം കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്നത്. ഫുട്ബോളിലുള്ള പെലെയുടെ കഴിവ് നന്നേ ചെറുപ്പത്തില്‍ തന്നെ ഡൊണീഞ്ഞ്യോ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. കുടുംബത്തിലെ കടുത്ത ദാരിദ്ര്യം കാരണം ഡൊണീഞ്ഞ്യോയ്ക്ക് തന്റെ ഫുട്ബോള്‍ കരിയര്‍ നേരത്തെ തന്നെ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു. അന്ന് ഏറ്റവും തുച്ഛമായ വേതനമായിരുന്നു ഫുട്ബോള്‍ താരങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ലഭിച്ചിരുന്നത്. പിന്നീട് ഒരു ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ ക്ലീനിങ് ജോലി ചെയ്താണ് അദ്ദേഹം മകന്റെ സ്വപ്നങ്ങള്‍ നേടിയെടുക്കാനായി പൊരുതിയത്.

കൃത്യതയാര്‍ന്ന പാസിങ്, ഡ്രിബിളിങ്, തോള്‍ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ഡിഫന്‍ഡര്‍മാരെ മറികടക്കുക, പെട്ടെന്നുള്ള വേഗവ്യതിയാനങ്ങള്‍ എന്നിവയെല്ലാം പെലെയെ ചെറുപ്പത്തില്‍ തന്നെ ഡൊണീഞ്ഞ്യോ പഠിപ്പിച്ചു.

വൈകാതെ തന്നെ പെലെ പ്രാദേശിക തലത്തില്‍ വിവിധ ക്ലബ്ബുകള്‍ക്കായി കളിക്കാന്‍ ആരംഭിച്ചിരുന്നു. സെറ്റെ ഡി സെറ്റംബ്രോ, കാന്റോ ഡൊ റിയോ, സാവോ പൗലിന്യോ, അമേരിക്വിന്യ, ബാറു അത്ലറ്റിക് ക്ലബ്ബ് ജൂനിയേഴ്സ് തുടങ്ങി വിവിധ ക്ലബ്ബുകള്‍ക്കായി കുഞ്ഞ് പെലെ കളിച്ചു. പെലെയുടെ മികവിലാണ് ബാറു അത്ലറ്റിക് ക്ലബ്ബ് രണ്ട് സാവോ പൗലോ യൂത്ത് ചാമ്പ്യന്‍ഷിപ്പുകളില്‍ കിരീടമണിഞ്ഞത്.

പ്രാദേശിക തലത്തില്‍ പേരും പെരുമയും സ്വന്തമാക്കിയ പെലെയെ 15-ാം വയസിലാണ് ബ്രസീലിന്റെ പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഫുട്ബോള്‍ ക്ലബ്ബ് സാന്റോസ് തങ്ങളുടെ പാളയത്തിലെത്തിക്കുന്നത്. 1956-ല്‍ ബാറു അത്ലറ്റിക് ക്ലബ്ബിന്റെ പരിശീലകനായിരുന്ന വാള്‍ഡെമാര്‍ ബ്രിട്ടോയാണ് പെലെയെ സാന്റോസിലെത്തിക്കുന്നത്. ഇവന്‍ ലോകത്തെ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച ഫുട്ബോള്‍ താരമാകുമെന്ന് സാന്റോസ് ഡയറക്ടര്‍മാരോട് പറഞ്ഞാണ് ബ്രിട്ടോ പെലെയെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കലെത്തിക്കുന്നത്.

വില്ല ബെല്‍മിറോ സ്റ്റേഡിയത്തില്‍ നടന്ന ട്രയല്‍സില്‍ സാന്റോസ് കോച്ച് ലുലയെ അദ്ഭുതപ്പെടുത്തിയതോടെ ക്ലബ്ബ് താരവുമായി പ്രൊഫഷണല്‍ കരാറിലെത്തി. 1956 സെപ്റ്റംബര്‍ ഏഴിന് കൊറിന്ത്യന്‍സിനെതിരെയായിരുന്നു പെലെയുടെ സീനിയര്‍ ടീം അരങ്ങേറ്റം. ഒന്നിനെതിരേ ഏഴു ഗോളിന് സാന്റോസ് ജയിച്ച ആ മത്സരത്തില്‍ ഗോള്‍ നേടാനും പെലെയ്ക്കായി.

1957 സീസണില്‍ തന്റെ 16-ാം വയസില്‍ പെലെ സാന്റോസിന്റെ സ്റ്റാര്‍ട്ടിങ് ഇലവനില്‍ ഇടംനേടി. ആ സീസണിലെ ടോപ് സ്‌കോററും പെലെയായിരുന്നു. സാന്റോസിലെത്തി 10 മാസത്തിനു ശേഷം പെലെയ്ക്ക് ബ്രസീല്‍ ദേശീയ ടീമിലേക്ക് വിളിയെത്തി. 1958-ലാണ് സാന്റോസില്‍ പെലെ ആദ്യ മേജര്‍ കിരീടം നേടുന്നത്. കാംപെണാറ്റോ പൗലിസ്റ്റ കിരീടമാണ് അന്ന് സാന്റോസിന്റെ ഷെല്‍ഫിലെത്തിയത്. ഇത്തവണ 58 ഗോളുകളുമായി പെലെ ടൂര്‍ണമെന്റിലെ ടോപ് സ്‌കോററായി. കരിയറില്‍ സാന്റോസിനായി 643 ഗോളുകളാണ് പെലെ അടിച്ചുകൂട്ടിയത്.

വൈകാതെ ദേശീയ ടീമിലെത്തിയ പെലെയുടെ അരങ്ങേറ്റ മത്സരം 1957 ജൂലായ് ഏഴിന് അര്‍ജന്റീനയ്ക്കെതിരെയായിരുന്നു. 16 വര്‍ഷവും ഒമ്പത് മാസവും പ്രായമുള്ളപ്പോഴായിരുന്നു അത്. ആദ്യ മത്സരത്തില്‍ തന്നെ ഗോള്‍ നേടിയെങ്കിലും മത്സരത്തില്‍ ബ്രസീല്‍ 2-1ന് തോറ്റു.

വൈകാതെ 1958-ലെ ലോകകപ്പെത്തി. പെലെയുടെ കരിയറിലെ ആദ്യ ലോകകപ്പ്. അന്ന് കാല്‍മുട്ടിനേറ്റ പരിക്കുമായാണ് പെലെ സ്വീഡനിലെത്തിയത്. സെമിയില്‍ ഫ്രാന്‍സിനെതിരേ പെലെ നേടിയ ഹാട്രിക്ക് ഫുട്ബോള്‍ ചരിത്രത്തില്‍ ഇടംപിടിച്ചു. ലോകകപ്പ് ചരിത്രത്തില്‍ ഹാട്രിക്ക് നേടുന്ന ഏറ്റവും പ്രായം കുറഞ്ഞ താരമെന്ന നേട്ടമാണ് അന്ന് പെലെയ്ക്ക് സ്വന്തമായത്. സ്വീഡനെതിരായ ഫൈനലിലും താരം തിളങ്ങി. 17 വര്‍ഷവും 249 ദിവസവും പ്രായമുള്ളപ്പോള്‍ ആദ്യ ലോകകപ്പ് ഫൈനല്‍ കളിച്ച പെലെ സ്വീഡനെതിരേ രണ്ടു ഗോളുകളും നേടി. രണ്ടിനെതിരേ അഞ്ചു ഗോളിന് ജയിച്ച് ബ്രസീല്‍ അന്ന് കിരീടം സ്വന്തമാക്കി. ടൂര്‍ണമെന്റിലെ നാലു മത്സരങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്ന് ആറു ഗോളുകളാണ് പെലെ അന്ന് നേടിയത്. ടൂര്‍ണമെന്റിലെ മികച്ച യുവതാരമായും പെലെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

ആ ലോകകപ്പോടെ ഫുട്ബോള്‍ ലോകം പെലെയ്ക്ക് പിന്നാലെയായി. റയല്‍ മാഡ്രിഡ്, യുവെന്റസ്, മാഞ്ചെസ്റ്റര്‍ യുണൈറ്റഡ് ക്ലബ്ബുകള്‍ പെലെയെ ടീമിലെത്തിക്കാനുള്ള പരിശ്രമങ്ങള്‍ ആരംഭിച്ചു. ഇതിനിടെ ഇന്റര്‍ മിലാന്‍ താരമായി കരാറിലെത്തുമെന്ന ഘട്ടംവരെയെത്തി കാര്യങ്ങള്‍. എന്നാല്‍ ബ്രസീല്‍ ആരാധകര്‍ ഒന്നടങ്കം ഇളകിയതോടെ ഇന്ററിന് കരാറില്‍ നിന്ന് പിന്മാറേണ്ടി വന്നു. ഇതോടെ പെലെ പുറത്തുപോകാതിരിക്കാന്‍ 1961-ല്‍ ബ്രസീല്‍ സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ പെലെയെ ദേശീയ നിധിയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.

1962-ലെ ലോകകപ്പ് ആരംഭിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ പെലെ ലോകത്തിലെ തന്നെ മികച്ച താരങ്ങളുടെ നിലയിലേക്ക് ഉയര്‍ന്നിരുന്നു. മെക്സിക്കോയ്ക്കെതിരായ ആദ്യ മത്സരത്തില്‍ തിളങ്ങിയ പെലെയ്ക്ക് ചെക്കോസ്ലോവാക്യയ്ക്കെതിരായ മത്സരത്തിനിടെ പരിക്കേറ്റു. ഇതോടെ ടൂര്‍ണമെന്റിലെ പിന്നീടുള്ള മത്സരങ്ങളില്‍ പെലെയ്ക്ക് കളിക്കാനായില്ല. എങ്കിലും ഗരിഞ്ച തിളങ്ങിയതോടെ തുടര്‍ച്ചയായ രണ്ടാം തവണയും ലോകകപ്പ് ബ്രസീലിലെത്തി.

1966-ലെ ഇംഗ്ലണ്ട് ലോകകപ്പ് പെലെയുടെ കരിയറിലെ ഏറ്റവും മോശം അനുഭവമായിരുന്നു. ഗരിഞ്ച, ഗില്‍മര്‍, ഡാല്‍മ സാന്റോസ് തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രഗത്ഭരടങ്ങിയ നിരയുമായാണ് ബ്രസീല്‍ ലോകകപ്പിനെത്തിയത്. പക്ഷേ ആദ്യ റൗണ്ടില്‍ തന്നെ പുറത്താകാനായിരുന്നു ടീമിന്റെ വിധി. പെലെയ്ക്കെതിരേ എതിര്‍ ടീം ഡിഫന്‍ഡര്‍മാര്‍ കാടന്‍ ഫൗളുകള്‍ പുറത്തെടുത്ത ലോകകപ്പായിരുന്നു അത്. ബള്‍ഗേറിയക്കെതിരായ ആദ്യ മത്സരത്തില്‍ ഒരു ഫ്രീകിക്കിലൂടെ പെലെ സ്‌കോര്‍ ചെയ്തു. ഇതോടെ തുടര്‍ച്ചയായ മൂന്ന് ലോകകപ്പുകളില്‍ ഗോള്‍ നേടുന്ന ആദ്യ താരമെന്ന നേട്ടവും പെലെ സ്വന്തമാക്കി. എന്നാല്‍ ബള്‍ഗേറിയന്‍ താരങ്ങളുടെ കാടന്‍ ടാക്ലിങ്ങില്‍ പെലെ വീണുപോയി. ഹംഗറിക്കെതിരായ രണ്ടാം മത്സരം താരത്തിന് നഷ്ടമായി. അതില്‍ ബ്രസീല്‍ തോല്‍ക്കുക കൂടി ചെയ്തതോടെ പോര്‍ച്ചുഗലിനെതിരായ മൂന്നാം മത്സരം പെലെയ്ക്കും ടീമിനും നിര്‍ണായകമായി. പരിക്ക് പൂര്‍ണമായും ഭേദമാകും മുമ്പ് പെലെയെ പോര്‍ച്ചുഗലിനെതിരേ കളത്തിലിറക്കാന്‍ കോച്ച് വിസെന്റെ ഫിയോള നിര്‍ബന്ധിതനായി.

ലിവര്‍പൂളിലെ ഗൂഡിസണ്‍ പാര്‍ക്കില്‍ നടന്ന മത്സരത്തില്‍ ബള്‍ഗേറിയയുടെ അതേ മാതൃക തന്നെ പോര്‍ച്ചുഗലും പിന്തുടര്‍ന്നു. പോര്‍ച്ചുഗല്‍ ഡിഫന്‍ഡര്‍ ജാവോ മൊറൈസിന്റെ പാടന്‍ ടാക്ലിങ്ങില്‍ പെലെ മൈതാനത്ത് വേദന കൊണ്ട് പുളഞ്ഞു. ഉറപ്പായും ചുവപ്പു കാര്‍ഡ് ലഭിക്കേണ്ട ഈ ഫൗളിനു നേരെ റഫറി ജോര്‍ജ് മക്കാബെ കണ്ണടച്ചു. മൊറൈസ് കളത്തില്‍ തുടര്‍ന്നു. അക്കാലത്ത് സബ്സ്റ്റിറ്റിയൂഷന്‍ ഇല്ലാതിരുന്നതിനാല്‍ പെലെയ്ക്ക് കാലിനേറ്റ പരിക്കുമായി കളത്തില്‍ തുടരേണ്ടി വന്നു. ലോകകപ്പ് ചരിത്രത്തിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും മോശം റഫറിയിങ്ങുകളിലൊന്നായി ആ സംഭവം മാറി. ആ മത്സരത്തോടെ ഇനി ഒരിക്കലും ലോകകപ്പില്‍ കളിക്കില്ലെന്ന് പെലെ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.

പിന്നീട് 1970-ലെ ലോകകപ്പിന് മുന്നോടിയായി പെലെ ബ്രസീല്‍ ടീമിലേക്ക് വിളിച്ചു. പക്ഷേ അദ്ദേഹം കളിക്കാന്‍ കൂട്ടാക്കിയില്ല. അതോടെ ബ്രസീല്‍ ഇളകി. ആരാധകര്‍ ഒന്നടങ്കം കെഞ്ചിക്കേണു. ഒടുവില്‍ പെലെ വഴങ്ങി. ആറ് യോഗ്യതാ മത്സരങ്ങളിലും പെലെ കളത്തിലിറങ്ങി. ആറു ഗോളുകളും സ്‌കോര്‍ ചെയ്തു. 1970 ലോകകപ്പ് പെലെയുടെ അവസാനത്തെ ലോകകപ്പായിരുന്നു. കഴിഞ്ഞ ലോകകപ്പ് ടീമിലെ പ്രധാന താരങ്ങളായിരുന്ന ഗരിഞ്ച, നില്‍ട്ടണ്‍ സാന്റോസ്, ഗില്‍മര്‍, വ്ളാഡിമിര്‍ പെരെയ്ര, ഡാല്‍മ സാന്റോസ് എന്നിവരെല്ലാം തന്നെ ബൂട്ടഴിച്ചുകഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

എന്നാല്‍ പെലെ, റിവെലിനോ, ജൈര്‍സിന്യോ, ഗെര്‍സന്‍, കാര്‍ലോസ് ആല്‍ബര്‍ട്ടോ ടോറസ്, ടൊസ്റ്റാവോ, ക്ലോഡൊവാല്‍ഡോ എന്നിവരടങ്ങിയ ബ്രസീല്‍ ടീം ചരിത്രത്തിലെ തന്നെ മികച്ച ടീമായാണ് വിലയിരുത്തപ്പെട്ടത്. ആ ലോകകപ്പില്‍ ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിനെതിരായ മത്സരം പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്. മത്സരം 4-1നാണ് മഞ്ഞപ്പട ജയിച്ചുകയറിയത്. മത്സരത്തിനിടെ പെലെയുടെ ഗോളെന്നുറച്ച ഒരു ഹെഡര്‍ ഇംഗ്ലണ്ട് ഗോളി ഗോര്‍ഡണ്‍ ബാങ്ക്സ് സേവ് ചെയ്തു. ഗോളെന്നുറപ്പിച്ച് പെലെ ഗോള്‍, ഗോള്‍ എന്ന് ഉറക്കെ ആര്‍ത്തലച്ച ശേഷമായിരുന്നു ബാങ്ക്സിന്റെ ആ രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തത്. നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ സേവ് എന്നാണ് പില്‍ക്കാലത്ത് ആ രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തല്‍ അറിയപ്പെട്ടത്.

ഇറ്റലിക്കെതിരായ ഫൈനലില്‍ പെലെ ബ്രസീലിന്റെ ഗോള്‍ വേട്ട തുടങ്ങിവെച്ചു. ബ്രസീലിന്റെ 100-ാം ലോകകപ്പ് ഗോളായിരുന്നു അത്. ഇതില്‍ പെലെ നല്‍കിയ പാസില്‍ നിന്ന് കാര്‍ലോസ് ആല്‍ബര്‍ട്ടോ നേടിയ ഗോള്‍ ലോകകപ്പ് ചരിത്രത്തിലെ തന്നെ മികച്ച ഗോളായാണ് കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. മത്സരം 4-1 ന് ജയിച്ച ബ്രസീല്‍ ജുലെസ് റിമെറ്റ് ട്രോഫി വീണ്ടും സ്വന്തമാക്കി. ഗോള്‍ഡന്‍ ബോളിന് പെലെയല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊരു അവകാശി ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു. മൂന്ന് ലോകകപ്പുകള്‍ നേടുന്ന ആദ്യ താരമെന്ന നേട്ടവും പെലെ സ്വന്തം പേരിലാക്കി.

1971 ജൂലായ് 18-ന് റിയോ ഡി ജനെയ്റോയില്‍ യൂഗോസ്ലാവിയക്കെതിരെയായിരുന്നു പെലെയുടെ അവസാന രാജ്യാന്തര മത്സരം. പെലെ കളിച്ച മത്സരങ്ങളില്‍ ബ്രസീലിന്റെ കണക്കുകള്‍ ഇങ്ങനെ; 67 ജയങ്ങള്‍, 14 സമനില, 11 തോല്‍വി. പെലെയും ഗരിഞ്ചയും ഒന്നിച്ച് കളത്തിലിറങ്ങിയ ഒരു മത്സരത്തില്‍ പോലും ബ്രസീല്‍ തോറ്റിട്ടില്ലെന്നതും ചരിത്രം.

ബ്രസീലിനായി 92 മത്സരങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്ന് 77 ഗോളുകള്‍ നേടിയ ശേഷമാണ് അദ്ദേഹം ആ മഞ്ഞക്കുപ്പായത്തോട് വിടപറഞ്ഞത്.

ഫുട്ബോള്‍ മൈതാനത്ത് എന്നും എതിരാളികളോട് യുദ്ധം ചെയ്ത പെലെ കളത്തിനു പുറത്ത് ഒരിക്കല്‍ ഒരു യുദ്ധം ഒഴിവാക്കുന്നതിനും കാരണമായിട്ടുണ്ട്. 1968-ലായിരുന്നു അത്. അക്കാലത്ത് നിരവധി പേരുടെ മരണത്തിനിടയാക്കിയ നൈജീരിയ - ബയഫ്ര യുദ്ധമാണ് പെലെ കാരണം വെടിനിര്‍ത്തലിലെത്തിയത്. നൈജീരിയയില്‍ ആഭ്യന്തര കലാപം നടക്കുന്ന സമയം. ലാഗോസില്‍ സാന്റോസിനു വേണ്ടി കളിക്കാന്‍ പെലെ എത്തുന്നു എന്ന വാര്‍ത്ത പരന്നതോടെ 48 മണിക്കൂര്‍ വെടിനിര്‍ത്തലിന് കലാപകാരികള്‍ തയ്യാറാകുകയായിരുന്നു.

ബ്രസീലിന്റെ മഞ്ഞക്കുപ്പായം അഴിച്ചുവെച്ച് വീണ്ടും ആറു വര്‍ഷം കഴിഞ്ഞാണ് അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ പ്രൊഫഷണല്‍ കരിയര്‍ അവസാനിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. 1977 ഒക്ടോബര്‍ ഒന്നിനായിരുന്നു ഫുട്ബോള്‍ രാജാവിന്റെ അവസാന മത്സരം. ന്യൂയോര്‍ക്ക് കോസ്മോസും സാന്റോസും തമ്മിലുള്ള മത്സരം ഫുട്ബോള്‍ രാജാവിനായി പ്രത്യേകം സംഘടിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടതായിരുന്നു. പ്രൊഫഷണല്‍ കരിയറില്‍ സാന്റോസിനും കോസ്മോസിനും വേണ്ടി മാത്രമേ പെലെ ബൂട്ടണിഞ്ഞിട്ടുള്ളൂ.

മത്സരത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യ പകുതിയില്‍ കോസ്മോസിനായി കളിച്ച പെലെ രണ്ടാം പകുതിയില്‍ സാന്റോസിനായി കളിക്കാനിറങ്ങി. ന്യൂ ജേഴ്സിയിലെ ജെയ്ന്റ്സ് സ്റ്റേഡിയത്തിലായിരുന്നു അന്നത്തെ മത്സരം. ആദ്യപകുതിയുടെ 43-ാം മിനിറ്റില്‍ കോസ്മോസിനായി പെലെയുടെ ബൂട്ടില്‍ നിന്ന് ഗോള്‍ പിറന്നു. പ്രൊഫഷണല്‍ കരിയറില്‍ കറുത്ത മുത്തിന്റെ അവസാന ഗോള്‍.

ഇടവേളയ്ക്ക് പിരിഞ്ഞ ശേഷം പെലെ സാന്റോസിലെ തന്റെ വിഖ്യാതമായ ജേഴ്സ് ധരിച്ച് കളത്തിലിറങ്ങി. എന്നാല്‍ ആ 45 മിനിറ്റില്‍ പെലെയ്ക്ക് തന്റെ പഴയ ക്ലബ്ബിനായി സ്‌കോര്‍ ചെയ്യാനായില്ല. മത്സരം 2-1ന് കോസ്മോസ് ജയിച്ചു. മത്സരം അവസാനിച്ചതോടെ കാണികള്‍ ഇളകി മറിഞ്ഞു. പെലെ നിറ കണ്ണുകളോടെ അവരുടെ കൈയടികള്‍ ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങി. സഹതാരങ്ങളായിരുന്ന ഫ്രാന്‍സ് ബെക്കന്‍ബോവര്‍, ആല്‍ബര്‍ട്ടോ, ബോബി മൂര്‍ എന്നിവര്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കെട്ടിപ്പിടിച്ചു.

രണ്ടു പതിറ്റാണ്ടിലേറെക്കാലം ഫുട്ബോള്‍ മൈതാനങ്ങളെ കോരിത്തരിപ്പിച്ച ശേഷം ഒടുവില്‍ പെലെ തന്റെ ജീവശ്വാസമായ കാല്‍പ്പന്തിനെ താഴെ വെച്ചു. എന്നിട്ടും ലോകമെമ്പാടു നിന്നും അംഗീകാരങ്ങള്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ തേടിയെത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. 1977-ല്‍ അവസാന മത്സരം കളിച്ചതിനു പിന്നാലെ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ യുനിസെഫ് വിശ്വപൗരനായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. 1997-ല്‍ ബ്രിട്ടണ്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ പ്രഭു പദവി നല്‍കി ആദരിച്ചു.

1999-ല്‍ രാജ്യാന്തര ഒളിമ്പിക് കമ്മിറ്റിയുടെ നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലെ മികച്ച അത്ലറ്റായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടത് പെലെയായിരുന്നു. ഇതേ വര്‍ഷം തന്നെ പ്രശസ്ത ഫുട്ബോള്‍ മാസികയായ വേള്‍ഡ് സോക്കറിന്റെ വായനക്കാര്‍ നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ മികച്ച കളിക്കാരനായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത് മറ്റാരെയുമായിരുന്നില്ല.

2000-ല്‍ ഫിഫയുടെ നൂറാം പിറന്നാളിനോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ ലോക ഫുട്ബോള്‍ താരമായതും പെലെ തന്നെ.

ലോക ഫുട്‌ബോള്‍ ഇതിഹാസം പെലെയുടെ ജീവിതകഥ പറയുന്ന സിനിമയാണ് ‘പെലെ: ബെര്‍ത്ത് ഓഫ് എ ലെജന്റ്’. സിനിമ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്യുന്നത് ജെഫ് സിംബലിസ്റ്റാണ്. സിനിമയുടെ സംഗീതം നിർവഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് എ.ആര്‍ റഹ്മാനാണ്.

“I’ll win a world cup for Brazil, pai. I promise” 1950 ലെ ലോകകപ്പ് ഫൈനലിൽ ബ്രസീൽ തോറ്റതിൽ വിഷമിച്ചു വരുന്ന Dondinho യോട് മകനായ ഡിക്കോ പറയുന്ന വാക്കുകൾ ആണ് ഇത്. വീട്ടുജോലി എടുക്കുന്ന അമ്മയ്ക്കും മുൻ ഫുട്ബോൾ പ്ലെയറും ഇപ്പോൾ ആശുപത്രിയിലെ ക്ലീനിംഗ് ജോലിക്ക് പോകുന്ന അച്ചന്റേയും മകനായ തെരുവിൽ കളിച്ചു വളരുന്ന ഡിക്കോ എന്ന പെലെയുടെ അതിജീവനത്തിന്റെയും ലക്ഷ്യത്തിലേക്കുള്ള കുതിപ്പിന്റെയും കഥയാണ് ചിത്രം പറയുന്നത്.

ഒരിക്കൽ വാസ്കോയുടെ ഗോൾകീപ്പർ ആയ ബിലെയെ പെലെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞത് കേൾക്കുക അവന്റെ അമ്മ ജോലിചെയുന്ന വീട്ടിലെ കുട്ടികൾ അവനെ പെലെ എന്നു വിളിച്ചു കളിയാക്കുന്നു. എന്നാൽ നാട്ടിൽ നടന്ന santos football clubinte മത്സരത്തിൽ എല്ലാരേയും ഞെട്ടിക്കുന്ന പ്രകടനവും ഡിക്കോ കാഴ്ചവയ്ക്കുന്നു. ആ മത്സരം കാണുന്ന Waldemar ഡികോയെ സാന്റോസ് ക്ലബ്ബിലേക്ക് ക്ഷണിക്കുന്നു. എന്നാൽ അമ്മയുടെ വാശിയിൽ ഡിക്കോ അച്ഛനൊപ്പം ജോലിക്ക് പോകുന്നു. ജോലി സ്‌ഥലത്തുള്ള ഇടവേളകളിലും അച്ചൻ ഡികോയിലെ ഫുട്ബോൾ കളിക്കാരനെ പുറത്തു കൊണ്ട് വരാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നു. മകനിലെ ഫുട്ബാളിനോടുള്ള സ്നേഹം കാണുന്ന അമ്മ ഡികോയുടെ ഇഷ്ടങ്ങൾക്കു അനുവാദം നൽകുന്നു.

സാന്റോസ് ക്ലബ്ബിലെ യൂത്ത് ടീമിൽ നിന്നും പ്രോ ടീമിലേക്കും പിന്നീട് ലോകകപ്പിലേക്കുള്ള ബ്രസീൽ ടീമിലേക്കും എത്തുന്ന ഡിക്കോ തന്റെ തനതു ശൈലികൾ കൊണ്ട് ലോകകപ്പ് എന്ന സ്വപ്നം ബ്രസീലിനു നേടിക്കൊടുക്കുന്നു. ബ്രസീലിന്റെ വന്യമായ ജിംഗ താളവും ഫുട്ബോൾ ആവേശങ്ങളും മനോഹരമായി തന്നെ ചിത്രത്തിൽ കാണിച്ചിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. AR റഹ്മാന്റെ മ്യൂസിക് ചിത്രത്തെ കൂടുതൽ മനോഹരമാക്കുന്നു. ഏറ്റവും എടുത്തു പറയേണ്ടത് ചിത്രത്തിൽ പെലെ ആയി എത്തുന്ന Kevin de Paula യുടെ പ്രകടനം ആണ്. ഫുട്ബോളിനെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവർ ഉറപ്പായും കണ്ടിരിക്കേണ്ട ചിത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നുതന്നെയാണ് Pelé: Birth of a Legend.

Introduction

Pele: The Autobiography is a remarkable book that chronicles the life of one of the greatest soccer players in history, Pele. Written by Pele himself, this book provides an intimate look into his career and personal life as he recounts his journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the most iconic athletes ever.

The autobiography begins with Pele’s early years growing up in poverty-stricken Brazil and how playing football provided him with an escape from reality. He details how he was scouted at age 11 by Sao Paulo FC and joined them at 15 where he quickly rose through their ranks to become their star player despite being much younger than everyone else on the team.

From there, we get an inside look into what it was like for him when Brazil won its first World Cup title in 1958 when they beat Sweden 5-2 in Stockholm; something that had never been done before or since then! He also talks about other successes such as winning two more World Cups (1962 & 1970), three Copa Libertadores titles (1959–60 & 1962–63) plus numerous individual awards including being named FIFA Player Of The Century twice – once each time it has been awarded!

In addition to all these accomplishments, we learn about some struggles too, such as dealing with injuries throughout his career which eventually led him to retire prematurely at age 34 due to chronic knee problems; but even after retirement he still remained active within football circles coaching teams such as New York Cosmos among others until finally retiring completely from professional sports altogether shortly after turning 50 years old back 1999/2000 season.

Finally, towards the end, part autobiography focuses on post-retirement activities which include working closely with the United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF using the platform to raise awareness of global issues of children around the world. Also continuing to serve as the ambassador of the sport itself both domestically and internationally through various initiatives campaigns events etc… All together gives readers great insight into the man who not only became arguably the best ever to play the game, but someone who used fame to betterment society whole long afterward too!

Pele, one of the greatest footballers of all time, was born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in October 1940 in Tres Coracoes, Brazil. From a young age, Pele showed signs of being a gifted footballer, receiving his first pair of boots when he was eight years old and quickly making a name for himself in his neighborhood. He was such a prodigy that a top Brazilian club signed him at the age of fifteen and renamed him ‘Pele’, which would become the name he is best known by around the world.

At sixteen, he made his professional debut with the legendary Santos Football Club. He would stay with them for nearly two decades, becoming their all-time leading goalscorer and most successful player ever. It was during his time with Santos that Pele really began to make a name for himself, showing his incredible talents on the pitch and becoming an icon of the game. He won numerous awards and titles with Santos, including the Campeonato Paulista seven times and the prestigious Copa Libertadores twice.

Santos resisted offers for Pele for as long as possible, but eventually accepted an offer of around $100,000 from the Italian club AC Milan. However, this transfer never went through as the Brazilian government declared him a national treasure and stopped it from happening. This was a major moment in Pele’s career, as it firmly established him as one of Brazil’s most beloved players. 

Once he was back with Santos, he continued to perform at an extremely high level and helped them win two consecutive Campeonato Paulista titles. During this period, Pele gained invaluable experience which enabled him to reach even greater heights on the international stage. He also made significant strides in improving his tactical awareness and becoming an even more complete player. 

It was during this time that Pele began to demonstrate the leadership qualities which would make him one of the greatest players of all time. He proved to be a natural leader and was always willing to take responsibility for his team’s performance. This proved to be a key factor in his and Santos’ success throughout his career. 

In 1957, when Pele was just 17 years old, he won his first major trophy as Santos claimed their first Campeonato Brasileiro title. This was the first of many successes that Pele would have with the club, and it laid the foundation for his illustrious career.

On top of that, he was incredibly efficient in front of goal; in 1966, he scored 66 goals in 60 games. It was a record that stood for many years until it was broken by former Santos player Neymar Jr.

Throughout his time at Santos, Pele established himself as one of the most iconic and influential figures in soccer history. His success at the club level paved the way for his triumphs with the Brazilian national team, and his legacy has endured to this day.
