Reflection Paper: The First Filipino

Lara Cagayan

Advent of a National Hero Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines and pride of the Malayan race, was born on June 19, 1861, in the town of Calamba, Laguna. He was the seventh child in a family of 11 children (2 boys and 9 girls). Both his parents were educated and belonged to distinguished families. His father, Francisco Mercado Rizal, an industrious farmer whom Rizal called "a model of fathers," came from Biñan, Laguna; while his mother, Teodora Alonzo y Quintos, a highly cultured and accomplished woman whom Rizal called "loving and prudent mother," was born in Meisic, Sta. Cruz, Manila. At the age of 3, he learned the alphabet from his mother; at 5, while learning to read and write, he already showed inclinations to be an artist. He astounded his family and relatives by his pencil drawings and sketches and by his moldings of clay. At the age 8, he wrote a Tagalog poem, "Sa Aking Mga Kabata," the theme of which revolves on the love of one's language. In 1877, at the age of 16, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree with an average of "excellent" from the Ateneo Municipal de Manila. In the same year, he enrolled in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Santo Tomas, while at the same time took courses leading to the degree of surveyor and expert assessor at the Ateneo. He finished the latter course on March 21, 1877 and passed the Surveyor's examination on May 21, 1878; but because of his age, 17, he was not granted license to practice the profession until December 30, 1881. In 1878, he enrolled in medicine at the University of Santo Tomas but had to stop in his studies when he felt that the Filipino students were being discriminated upon by their Dominican tutors. CHAPTER 2 Childhood Years in Calamba Jose Rizal, like many Filipino boys, had many beautiful memories of childhood. His was a happy home, filled with parental affection, impregnated with family joys, and sanctified by prayers. In the midst of sue peaceful, refined, God-loving family, he spent the early years of his childhood. The beauties of Calamba impressed him as a growing child and deeply influenced his mind and character. The happiest period of his life was truly his childhood days in his natal town.

The Relevance of Studying Rizal in Contemporary Period

A Reflective Essay

I’ve always enjoyed reading the works of Shakespeare, Poe, Whitman, Franklin, and other authors from classical to contemporary back in high school. They never failed to acquire my interest as I study them. But somehow, I never really studied Rizal’s novels on the same approach as I did for my English literature classes. I reckon that it’s because his works are deeply rooted from our country’s history which, for me, somehow became too redundant and seemingly “boring” because of closely related topics from Araling Panlipunan and Filipino subjects since grade school. Honestly, I was kind of surprised that we still had to take a Study of Rizal course in college. Well, I wasn’t exactly aware of the Republic Act 1425 or Rizal Law until now. But after reading the first chapter of The Study of Rizal Course: Reverence Without Understanding, I can say that I feel like I’ve gained a new found sense of appreciation for Rizal, his works and his accomplishments.

The mandated Rizal Law precisely presented a number of objectives on why including Rizal’s novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, in the curricula of private & public schools, colleges, and universities significant in contributing to the cultivation of the youth’s overall moral, personal and vocational development. Other than the ones that are indicated in the Republic Act 1425, there are a couple of reasons I have realized that have resonated with me the most. Although they are somehow besides its point of being nationalistic and patriotic in nature.

First, is that studying the life of Rizal urges us to think differently about the challenges that we face. Reading about how he responded to his personal inferiorities in a positive way triggered me into thinking about how we could turn our weaknesses as catalysts, to turn them into so much more than just setbacks and hindrances. Those weaknesses could turn into possibilities. That even Rizal, one of the most prominent national heroes, encountered mundane experiences from body image inferiorities to racial discrimination and prejudice. Still, he became a perfect embodiment of why being educated is crucial in pushing through the obstacles that we may face in our society today.

I’ve also come to realize that although there are people who still question the relevance of studying Rizal and his works – because I, myself, had been one of them – it has been mandated by law for a reason. When you really look at it, this would be more than beneficial when taught properly. In that aspect, it’s not that different from other courses. And just like in reading fiction, short stories, and novels written by my favorite authors, I would pretty much enjoy Rizal’s works the same way if I hadn’t been too intimidated by it. Other than that, his writings are also viable source of vibrant and enticing narratives.

Lastly, it becomes a stepping stone as we try to self-actualize. Yes, studying his life and works require understanding about the factual details and sequences of events that had happened way back the Spanish colonization period. But this course doesn’t have to be all about memorizing names, dates, quotations, and places that we’d probably forget as the time goes by. Instead, we could approach this course as an opportunity to look back and determine the foundations that had greatly helped in molding our society and our Filipino culture itself. To realize how important it is to know how to communicate and use our voices. To be aware on how crucial it is for us to use our abilities to protect what we have as Filipinos.

Through knowing what had happened in the past and understanding the reason why they happened, we’d be able to ponder upon them. We’d be able to learn from them not only as individuals who need to take part in resolving our nation’s current predicaments, but also as a collective whole in responding to our society’s call for hopeful and altruistic deeds. I feel like I entered college expecting to only focus on learning what I need for my chosen career path. Now I realized that having that kind of perspective was really shallow of me. Taking up a science course doesn’t mean that we should neglect everything unrelated to science. This just proves that being given the chance to study the life and works of Rizal is an opportunity that we should grab as students in the medical field. Thus, relevant for it humanizes ourselves and continuously reminds us our duties and responsibilities as Filipinos.

The Relevance of Rizal Course by: Maribeth Q. Galindo August 7, 2008

M ost often students feels that Rizal course is an additional burden to their studies because it is a minor subject. The person had been studied was already dead. Students further said that what’s the use of Rizal course where in fact they could not use the name Rizal as one of their references when they apply for a job nor Rizal could back up them if they need help…Well of course! A dead person cannot do anything about the life of the living but the thoughts, ideals, dreams, principles or convictions that he left might be very influential to people’s life as a basis of getting strength in their day to day existence. And that’s where the relevance of Rizal subject came in.

Indeed, Republic Act 1425 otherwise known as Rizal law was approved in June of 1956 made it clear that Rizal subject is a compulsory to all students who are enrolled in different colleges and universities. Obviously, a student cannot graduate in his course without taking and passing Rizal subject. Therefore, Rizal subject is equally important to all other subjects.

Moreover, Rizal subject would have meaning if the teacher who taught the subject would not just focus her/his discussion to life of Rizal per see but rather made the life of Rizal as a springboard of discussing the culture of the Filipinos, its political, economic and social affairs in the past and relate it at present situation of the people. In that way, student critical thinking would be developed more. As a result students would take an active part not only in the classroom setting but also in participating outside activities for the betterment of the Philippine society in general.

More importantly, the value of being a religious person, a loving and obedient son to his parents/family, a responsible student, a strong willed individual who stands for his convictions, the one who loves and serves the country are some of the virtues of Rizal that must and should be emphasized in the whole duration of the coarse. And that’s where the relevance of   Rizal subject lies.

Well, definitely it is true. Rizal subject is really important to all of us filipinos especially to students, not only because a student cannot graduate in his course without taking and passing it, but because studying his life would really help and teach us a lot of values that we, as part of our nation, should possess and live with. His very noble life is truly inspiring and worth to be imitated especially by the young ones of our present time. Hence, all of Rizal’s thoughts, ideals, principles and convictions tha he shared to us should not only remain as part of our knowledge, but it must also be practice and put into action as we go along our journey..

' src=

For me, Republic act 1425 or known as Rizal law which made Rizal subject a compulsory to all college students is very important. At start, you would be wondering why this subject is needed to be taken up when it is not related to some of our courses or degrees. But when the classes started and you would start to know Rizal’s life and his works, you would realize that his life could be an inspiration especially that you are relating to a fellow Filipino citizen whom we owe our freedom today as Filipinos. You would also realize that it is nice to know that there is a Filipino who existed like Rizal Who would teach us the values of nationalism and patriotism which he made as his weapon to save his country from injustice and cruelty of the Spaniards.

as this article say, it is true that you can’t give Rizal as one of the reference when you are applieng for a work. It’s just simply giving us the knowledge to be more likely how to handle our daily living as a living person. Isn000000tBeing the obedient one, helpful to their loveones and tought us how to be a responsible person in the present and in the future. Even though his already dead, our teachers just giving the students a guide on how we create the new ideas, the thoughts and the dreams in this generation and follow the good example of our hero. Some students will say it’s only a burden, simply because they dont understand this subject and they dont like it.

Of course, It is important to study the Life and Works of Rizal because He is our National Hero. And I agree that Rizal’s life to be taken up as a subject in college is very influential to all of us especially to us,Youths/Students, because we can get/learn many good traits and values like being a good student and citizen of the country, being obedient, loving and strong willed students that some youth nowadays dont possess it. We Should practice it for it is our own good.

' src=

For me as a student of a University at first truly indeed I get bored with the subject Rizal because I always question myself about the essence of Rizal subject on my course it is very far out in my own term, how could Rizal subject help me in my profession, but I know there are a lot of subjects I have been studying that could not help me in my profession. But, first impression never last, in the blog that I have read I was enlighten because though Rizal could not help us in our profession the future but the ideas and dreams of Rizal could help to be strong and be brave upon facing the obstacles in life coming .Rizal dreams and philosophy in life could be my inspiration on achieving my goals in life.

' src=

Well, this article is nice! It could explain more the relevance, importance and the value of the Rizal course to those students who are getting that course. Like me, I’m a student who is getting the Rizal course this semester, it explains me briefly and open up my mind that Rizal course is not just an ordinary course because it doesn’t only aim to let the student know about the life of Rizal, but it teaches the students about life values.

' src=

The author exemplified things that trully happened in the mind of every college students. As what the author indicated “…students feels that Rizal course is an additional burden to their studies because it is a minor subject” and he was right, that was the very thing that came into my mind when I knew that there is a Rizal subject that is worth 3 units and must be studied for almost 6 moths. But as i was reading the article, I felt shy because I looked on Rizal as a useless subject but the article taught me how to appreciate who and what Rizal was. It gave me an idea of knowing what is the purpose of studying everything about Rizal. It let me realize that the subject Rizal is not just a minor subject and theres no difference of this subject from our another subjects that we are taking up now.

It is important for all Filipinos to know our National Hero, Dr Jose Rizal. It is sad that most students these days don’t know anything about the Philippine heroes which include not only Dr Jose Rizal, but also Andres Bonifacio, Apolinario Mabini, Gregorio del Pilar, Diego and Gabriela Silang, Marcelo H. Del Pilar, Antonio Luna and Juan Luna.

It is important for us to know who planted in the minds of Filipino people through his writings the idea of seeking independence from the colonial masters. The foremost of these writings are the two novels “Noli Me Tangere” (Touch Me Not, also known as The Social Cancer) and “El Filibusterismo” (Reign of Greed) that instigated the revolution . The unrest was further aggravated by the death of the hero by musketry at the Rizal Park.

It is noteworthy to study these two books well, as due perhaps to his nearing martyrdom without seeing the freedom of his Motherland, the conflict in Rizal’s mind was manifested on the creation of another character in the person of Simoun, who contrary to the chracter shown by Ibarra, the pacifist in Noli turns up in El Fili as the rich guy pretending to side with the rich but is in fact siding and urging the Filipinos to revolt.

The teaching of these two novels were not really encouraged by ???? educators / school owners (mostly catholic schools) even up to the present as they want Filipinos to follow the example of pacifist Rizal, not the rebellious Simoun, not the Bonifacio, not the del Pilar. They want Filipinos to remain submissive, malleable and acquiescent..

taking up rizal course maybe a burden to our studies but it also helps us to know the things we haven’t learn yet about the life of Rizal. Upon learning those things, like his values, intelligence, and other heroic deeds. It may help us to be more inspired to do our best specially in our studies and his values may be our guide to become a successful man someday. Knowing and studying Rizal may not only inspires one’s life but it can be an impact to our country and to my fellow filipino citizens. It may give us the initiative to do our best part as a citizen in our beloved country

' src=

For me as a pure blooded Filipino, I don’t consider the course Rizal in our studies as a great burden because Rizal had done such great things for us Filipinos and we should give him honor despite the fact that he had given his fellowmen burdens, he still stand out for us. He didn’t let the Filiipinos down. Before he left, he made sure that everything has been settled and fixed. As I had observed, he is not a selfish being, in fact, he went to other countries to observe the foriegn culture, their status and almost everything about them. He just laid out the truth because of the maltreatment of the friars unto us. For me, if the Filipinos were not discriminated and maltreated the way the Spanish had used to be, Rizal wouldn’t written the two novels about them. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it gives such burden to us, it is for us to be inspired about our being Filipino for our country and also for us to be aware about the situation of the Filipinos in Rizals time. We shuold also be proud because it is Rizal who set us free from Spanish colonization.

' src=

For me, I am favored with the issue that every college student should take the Rizal course. Its not a burden for me as a student because i can be able to reflect the deeds and goals of Rizal as he was a student before.Taking this course is really a big help giving a big impact to reborn the memories of Rizal as our National Hero. We should give thanks to Rizal because our country now may not acquire the total liberation if Rizal didn’t write his novels. Taking Rizal as a course will also develop the thinking of a student. They can relate their present life to the life of Rizal before. They will be more active in participating the class activities but in my own experience the teacher is also a big factor to the understanding of student in this course. The way he/she teaches the lesson will be adapt by the students. If the teacher is not responsible enough in teaching this subject I guess many student will be bored and wasn’t able to comprehend the rest of the period.Furthermore, the works of Rizal as a student or an individual are giving us lessons. Love, Affection, being Patriotic and a pious person were emphasized in this course.

' src=

Taking up Rizal, as a minor subject, well, some says its irrelevant and no significance to their course. Some says its just a waste of time and money considering the fees of per unit in colleges and university are rising. But this subject is compulsory for all students in colleges and university for them to graduate. So the solution would be “just learn to love the subject or find ways to grasp it”.

For me, this subject is not hard ,as it is for some, to grasp or learn to love because what makes me interested about the subject is the issues of inferiority and the cruelity of the Spaniards in the time of colonization. The subject made me realize the unjust ruling of the spaniards over the past three centuries. With this we have grasp the customs, traditions, and even attitudes that diminish the true Filipino culture.

Also the essays of Rizal are quite appealing and very inspiring. I have known many issues from reading Rizal’s essay and even principles. Like Rizal’s essay entitled “To the Young Women of Malolos”, it was a very beautiful essay that caught my attention. On reading it, it made me realize the importance of women in the country and their relevance.

Rizal course might be a waste of time or a burden for a student who’s mind is close for he/she doesn’t consider the true relevance and meaning of the course. The true relevance of taking the course is not merely to study the life and works of Rizal but how did the Filipino people had stand for their country to fight and serve to the extent of this country to survive. Also we have to correct the wrong values that they gained from the Spaniards. We ought to learn from the issues of past and make it as a learning experince from our ancestors.

' src=

Although I haven’t thought of it, even once that Rizal course would be a burden for me, reading the first paragraph of the article, doubts and questions came in. But upon finishing the reading, I came to realize that ,still, we can relate the ideals and life of our national hero to the current issues now; and it is a challenge for us to be like him, although not totally, like to die for our country, but to be like him in his determination in his studies, for instance. We can imitate his virtues that would help us in our day to day lives. Moreover, Rizal’s other virtues like perseverance, patience, his strong determination, courage, magnanimity, prudence, and more can be our guide to become better individuals someday after we graduate from this institution. We, by relating ourselves in his life and virutes, will be the next in line to our predecessors that will lead the people in our country for the betterment of the whole.

' src=

Most often, the students are taking for granted the Rizal subject because they think that this subject is not useful in their fields. they treated it as an additional burden in their studies and not paying much attention on it because what they are focusing on their major subjects rather than on the Rizal subject.

What they don’t know is this subject is so important because it may be so influential to students in terms of thoughts, ideals, dreams, principles or conviction, which was Dr. Jose Rizal have while he is still alive, as a basis of getting strength in their day to day experience.

Today, we already have a law, particularly Republic act 1425 or otherwise Rizal law, which states that Rizal subject is compulsory to all students who are enrolled in different colleges and universities. Otherwise, you cannot graduate if you have not passed the Rizal subject.

Rizal subject would be more meaningful if the teacher teaching this subject would not just discuss things about Rizal’s life, but, rather relate it to the present situation, the culture of the filipinos, political, social and economic issues which are present in our country nowadays. In that way, the students will develop its critical thinking and as a result, the students wilbe active not only in the classroom but also in the outside community for the betterment of our country, Philippines.

Through it, we can develop the good traits of the youth nowadays and in the next generation. This makes the Rizal subject very important to us students.

' src=

I admit that adding a Rizal course would be a burden for me and to other students. Its true that we could not use his name in applying a job but what is important is we would be able to know his principles, ideals and his dreams and it would be very influential for us students.Of course,we cannot graduate in college if we dont take the course and not passing it.It is a challenge for us students to know more about Rizal’s life and as you are studying, you will realize and understand how important the life of Rizal is.Even Rizal law was approved as a cumpolsory in different college courses.I would prefer to study Rizal in order to graduate in our school.

' src=

the article that was posted is telling the fact that students are just given another burden in our studies..but we all know that Rizal subject will greatly affect our personalities, and it is the way to see how chaotic was the situation of Rizal’s time…in Rizal also we only not memorize but instead know our past, culture, and many more…

the life and works of rizal, as i have realized is very essential to our part as a student because our life is not always on school. we journey into different places and meet many different perils in life as a test for our overcoming life’s challenges. Like Rizal, though he is smatrt and intelligent person,he also has weakness like us and undergone so many obstacles in life. but in the end, he never surrender and surpass all the problems he encounter in life and he had succeded in his goal to give freedom our fellow Filipinos. like us students, we also encounter so many problems. as the days passed, our problems are slowly fading out, it is because of the help of our family and friends. they are always their to guide and help us whenever they have problems. in short, Rizal’s works is our inspiration in our daily lives. through his thougths, dreams, ideals and principles, we can be a great person someday. that is why the Rizal subject is relevant in our times nowadays.

the article that was posted about Rizal as a subject is telling the fact that the students are just given another burden in our studies.but we all know that Rizal as a subject will greatly affect our personalities because there are many traits are being sain in the book of Rizal.Because of Rizal also we knew what are the experiences that our fellow filipinos have before.what is important is we not just studie Rizal but we have to Aquire the virtues and values that Rizal had portrayed to us filipino.it is indeed a very challenging work to study Rizal,it is challenging because when we study Rizal we are not just reading but putting ourselves in the situaton of Rizal, our fellow filipino and our heroes and heroins..this article will be greatly acknowledge the student that we should keep Rizal not only in our minds but also in our hearts.

' src=

I admit that at the first time that I encountered the subject Rizal,I always ask my self “why do we taking this kind of subject?”Is these subject related to our course?”But then,as the subject goes on,I came to learn and realize that this subject has a very significant relation to my study. We can relate from his deeds, like doing anything just to got what he want to get.We should also take as a challenge in to our self to be like him.to have a courage to face every obstacle in life.to have a determination to reach for our dream and to be a better person to our country.

' src=

For me, taking the Rizal subject is very important because it is the good or nice guide for the student to survive in their own courses. Rizal subject also remind us in our culture that we forgot a long time ago, our good values and other. We can use this as a little learnings about our past in there time. We nid also this subject to know what was Rizal done to us Pilipinos to save us or to lead us against the spanish colonizer and to other abusers. Rizal experience during his time can be our guide in our time today, because many of us has a difficulty in our studies. Like Rizal, he study very hard to make his parents proud of him and to his teacher that is also proud of him.

' src=

For me, going to schoool is very important because it help us to change ourlives in so many ways.Like Rizal, he attend to school so that he can learn many things and to make his life worth. We need to think what is more important in our life and we need to choose the right courses that we have take because in this time we must be careful in our decisions and plan so that we will not be offend in the last in ourlives. In ourlives, we encountered so many trials and challenges, and we need to face it and fight it in order to be successful in our lives. We must just be courageous and be inspired to those things we will do.And the most worth important thing is we need to be faithful in our Almighty God because we already know that God will help in our challenges in our lives and he will never leave us in the middle of our fight. More important, ther value of being faithful to our Almighty GOd,a thoughtful and loving son/daughter in our parents, a good students, a strong individual, the one who give importance and serves the country are some of the virtues of Dr.JOse Rizal that must and should be emphasized in this beautiful world the duration of the coarse.

' src=

the relevance of the rizal course is even if its just a minor subject, it still has a great impact to our youth today specially to those students. its a way of knowing all about rizal and how is he important to our daily living through influences. rizal course has given students a big help because they’ve been able to compare the past and present and what is right or wrong according to individual beliefs. rizal is important to students.

' src=

the relevance of the rizal course even this subject is a minor its have a great influences to our youth today because it show the situation of indigenous philippines during the spanish regime. Rizal course have a big help because its a way knowing all about rizal and gives idea of how we should act as a filipino citizens because we are all part of this country.

The Relevance of Rizal Course (comment)

For me my comment of The Relevance of Rizal Course is that the attitude of students toward the Rizal Course can be generally traced to our historical unawareness and indifference. Some of us already stopped caring about our significant past, thus making us ignorant of the good lessons we should have learned for our own good. Some of us were just so preoccupied that we had no time to be conscious and look back to learn from the deeds and principles of the people who started shaping the destiny of our nation. Meanwhile, schools, colleges and universities must act in accordance with R.A. 1425 and equip their libraries with materials about Rizal. There are lots of works about Rizal nowadays, written by both Filipino and foreign authors. In this way, the schools, colleges and universities not only complied with the law but helped form historically aware and concerned young citizens.

We all know that Jose Rizal is one of the important person and a part of our life as a Filipino. The subject Rizal is known to every student of the colleges and universities that before thay graduate in college they must pass the subject. Most of the student said that what is the rule of Rizal in their live? Rizal can not help them in times of their difficulties. But they don’t know if they read the works of Rizal they can gain more knowledge. Even Rizal was dead we still put in our mind that he is our hero. He do every thing, he study, and sacrifice for the good of our country. If we realy appreciate his works as a Filipino we can be proud to our self because by his doing we become strong counry, now we na stand in our own and not a tenant in our own land. In terms of family we can get learnings from his family. They are a family who is very supportive to every member of their family and I admire his family. In the teacher they can also get some tips from Rizal becuase Rizal is also a teacher in his time. So I must say that the subject Rizal in important in our study not only to our own purpose that we want to gradaute but in our own self. We aply the leasons that we get in his life for us to succeed in the future.

Taking the Rizal subject is very important most specially for us students or people who did not experience or live during Rizal’s time. By studying this subject, we are now gaining knowledge and having an awareness of who Rizal really is and what are the things that he have done for the good of his countrymen. Rizal’s time was very crucial for all of the Filipinos, and Rizal was one of the brave man who really struggled hard for us to be free from those spaniards. Those people who said that this subject cannot help them in applying a job are immatures. They may also have reasons for not believing that Rizal subject is not relevant in the workplace but from the fact that he was our national hero and for all the things that he have for our country, we must not just do or say any statement about the abolishment of this subject. The DepEp are just recognizing Rizal’s worth. Thus, Rizal’s work served as a graet model to all of the new generations and for the coming generations.

I just want to share this one to you guys. I have this friend of mine who were able to take up Rizal course. Unfortunately, he failed by her teacher. One day, he went to me and it was as if he was torn by a thousand dying souls- he was totally mad and dismayed. This friend of mine, I may say is such a brilliant person. A very intelligent person. Its like he knows everything. But he got failed in his subject Rizal. “dili nako ma apil sa dean’s list ani kat kay nabagsak ko sa Rizal! Dili man unta sya major subject! Sakit kaayo para sa akoa” he said. I was just listening to him as he poured out all his madness to Rizal. He said that he was so disappointed with what happened. He was expecting good grades in all subjects. Then I asked him why he got failed and he said he is not interested with the course. Now, when I had my Rizal subject, I realized that my fiend wasn’t able to understand the subject. Sayang, bright pa man gyud sya. This subject had given me a lot of realization about the principles of life particularly on how you stand with your principle as a person. I also had realized something…that teacher is also an important part of passing this course. If the teacher would just focus on where Rizal had gone through all over the world then that would not be interesting one. But if the teacher will teach you principles about life just to campare it to Rizal, then that would give you an idea how this course is so important. Its like a philosophy I tell you.=)

Relevance of Rizal’s Course (Comment)

In Rizal’s course, there are a lot of questions now on why students have to study his subject. Some of them wonder if it is just a repetition of what they had studied in high school and some says that it is just a waste of money. Because they wont need Rizal’s history in finding a job as their reference. But for me Rizal’s history is important in our daily lives because of his inspiring novels and poems that he has written and risk his life. It gives us an idea about how to live our lives in the fully. He showed us that life shouldnt be just wasted. And on his writings there are informations, ideas that we could use in our daily living.

He tells about the different religions, culture of the different places he had been. And it helps us understand why we do have different cultures to learn for us to be aware of what is going on in the world. Rizal’s course is not just a subject to be studied but an inspiration to each of the filipino. Because what he did for us is not just for his own but for making us realize who we really are..

I agree in your point of view on Rizal subject yah!!!its true that Rizal cant back us up…but the fact that Rizal is past of our heroic person who struggle to find a way just to let the Filipinos know who the Spanish people try to treat us bad.Rizal did a very good job on making us or rather inspire the Filipino to revolt against the spanish.Well, back to teh point on what your try to tell it may be compulsory to all students but for some reason there are still a big use of this course.i read about an article that tells about how Rizal couse is very quite nice and thrilled to learn.some of then reacted like :

“The course opened my eyes to the greatness of Filipinos.”

“This course is for all time. Rizal’s writings are comparable to the Bible.”

“I discovered the defects of our people during Rizal’s time — the same defects are still in existence until now.”

“The messages of Rizal are still very relevant today — for the youth to love their country and defend it and their rights as a people against any foreigner.”

You get the drift.

It would help though to think of Rizal’s writings not as gospel truth but as great literature — which the Bible also is. The teaching of Rizal has also suffered in the past from his works being turned into sacred text. In fact, it is full of wit and humor, Rizal being past master at satire. Some of his essays are utterly droll, as when he apologizes for the lowly Filipinos taking a bath every day as opposed to the aristocratic Spanish who regaled the world only with perfumed bodies.

As to our defending our rights against any foreigner, substitute the word “tyrant” for “foreigner,” and I’m with you wholeheartedly. Rizal wasn’t just a bitter critic of foreign rule, he was a bitter critic of tyranny in whatever way it showed itself. He excoriated the bad side of the indio as much as that of his ruler, and demanded that he live with pride and dignity. He would not have stood for a local tyranny any more than a foreign one.

I too felt that way reading Philippine history for the first time — in my case that was the product of becoming an activist more than attending class — and Rizal’s works in particular. The “Noli” and “Fili” truly were eye-openers, turning Rizal from statue to flesh-and-blood, a singular Filipino who struggled to understand and articulate the vicissitudes of his time. Indeed, turning the past into a beacon for us who were floundering in the stormy seas of history to follow.Rizal’s characters continue to live among us. We still have Señor Pasta, who seeks only personal advancement; we still have Capitan Tiago, who is subservient to higher-ups; we still have Kabesang Tales, who is driven to rebellion by hardship and oppression; we still have Doña Victorina, who takes on the airs of the masters with buffoonish results. If I remember right, Doña Victorina, believed that the “de” after a surname guaranteed aristocracy, so she had not just one but two “de’s” after her name: Doña Victorina de de Espadaña. Rizal was funny, even if he was also deadly serious.

Well, Rizal did say one very important thing — which is twin brother to Santayana’s famous aphorism — that people who do not read their history are condemned to repeat it. Rizal said those who do not see where they came from will never get to where they are going. That has become a very prophetic warning for us.

If Rizal’s characters continue to live today, it is because we have failed to read history, or indeed read him. Our world today is not unlike the one he lived in, the superficial differences in technology aside. Rizal’s world was one where lies and hypocrisy held sway, upheld viciously by the liberal application of the sword. It was a world where spiritual and physical growth was stunted by a culture that militated against it. It was a world where the indios were reduced to despair and indifference, the intelligentsia opting to live abroad if not acquiescing to the tyranny at home. So it was then, so it is now.

Rizal’s writings truly have much to say to our own time. But more than his writings, his life itself has much to say to our time, and that is probably the greatest legacy he bequeathed to us. The guy was monumentally brilliant, a Renaissance man through and through. He was a poet, a novelist, a painter, a sculptor, an ophthalmologist, a botanist, and God knows what else. He even excelled in fencing and pistol shooting. He lived in many places in Europe and knew several Western languages, including a bit of English. By rights, he could have joined the ranks of the elite, the social circles in which they moved not being closed to him, notwithstanding that he came from modest origins.Instead, he chose not to be oblivious to the plight of his land and people and brought it to light in novel and polemic and whatever else he did. Instead, he chose to come home despite having a reasonably good life as an exile abroad and despite the entreaties of his friends not to, because the Spanish authorities could not abide truth and criticism, which were often one and the same. Instead, he chose to rebel against the injustice and folly of his time — however he remained of two minds till the end about the wisdom of an armed uprising — trying to push back the limits of the possible with all the genius and generosity he could muster, embracing the fate that went along with it with grace and fortitude.

More than anything he wrote, it was what Rizal did that has much to teach us. His life was his greatest work, a story continues to unfold to this day but whose meaning continues to elude us. Filipino we can be proud of and want to emulate.

Read history. You will find, as the most thrilling and frightening sensation of all, that you are not looking at the yellowed pages of a book, you are looking at a mirror.

“You can take the man out of the country, but you cannot take the country out of a man…”

Actually, i am a foreign student studying at a catholic university in davao. despite the fact that i am still learning the filipino language and its culture, i feel that i am Filipina by heart… and in reality, half filipina by blood. However, in my opinion, i have never felt my Rizal class as a burden. The subject has nourished my mind about the life’s of filipinos and their prevalent struggles better tha any subject could have probably done.

In my home country, i cannot pinpoint a specific “national hero” or a “hero” at all. We were taught the entire European history, however, our country leaves a blanc space in the book if there it is asked for the greatest of the greatest German man. And today, i feel that it is a sad fact.

I know that we Germans had a lot of great men in history… Renowned scientists who discovered and inventented things, deep thinking concept shapers with their theories of human beings’ mind, or great opinion leaders like politicians that have left impact on Europe’s economic growth and sustainability by law and implementation. However, we had no great man celebrated as Rizal who cared as much as he did for his nation.

And this is to me the remarkable thing. I find it great that it is required in the Philippines to have taken up the Rizal class. Rizal might have died decades ago, nevertheless, his values and virtues are kept alive and must be nourished further in the youth mind.

Since i have been living in the Philippines i have always wondered about the ideals of the Filipinos, and it was through the Rizal class that i understood, appreciated and analysed the culture of the Filipinos, its political, economic and social setting of the past and relate it to the present situation, ideals and concepts of the people. The class helped me to realize how much Filipina lies actually in me.

Maybe it is more than ever in our time necessary to learn and being reminded of Rizal. We just need to take a look around: the youth decreasing participation (or shall i call it passive thinking) in the country’s growth, greedy politicians who rather put their own agenda before that of the people, dissatisfied people who are turning their back to their mother country to look for the greener pastures abroad. That are sad scenarios in our daily lives in the Phillippines – with a sad tendency of increase.

The last thing that dies, is hope. Despite daily struggles of the Filipinos, that may occure in various forms, one fact may never be forgotten nor neglected: We are one country, one nation. It should be in everyone’s interest to protect the general welfare of each citizen, regardless, the lack of resources and fundings and all the other shortcomings.

You can take the man out of the country, but you cannot take the country out of a man. Lets protect our national identity as Rizal did… and he was ready to die for.

My deepest admirations to Jose Rizal. I wish that we Europeans, or rather Germans, would do the same and be proud of our nation despite previous historical events. But why pinpointing at others… change and attitude starts within oneself, right?

In my own opinion,we should agree that Rizal is one of our course because it never relies if the person is dead or not but it emphasizes what we should get in studying that subject. In fact we can get ideas of what really Rizal is on how he express his thoughts by writing poems and novels to enlighten us to free from Spanish colonialism. By studying this subject we can get lesson on how to surpass or problems in our daily lives and also on how to help others by not thinking what is the return if we help that certain person. In making this subject more effective teachers also give examples to their fellow students of what is the connection in studying Rizal course to the present situations so that they will know what are the importance of making this subject us one of our important course. To make this simple, studying Rizal is one way to imply the importance of Rizal to the Filipino people and in to our selves.

Yes, probably Rizal’s works, writings, ideals and principles are much influential to all of us, and could make encourage us Filipinos to do much more for the sake of the betterment of our beloved country. But for me, it is an additional expense to my education. Rizal course is not supposed to be a requirement for a college student because a college life too difficult to deal with already then suddenly they will add a course that its only purpose is to influence lives. It is not just an additional expense to us students but also an additional burden because we have to seriously study Rizal course in able for us to pass that subject. If I were to give a suggestion, it must be for those in High school levels, because students who are still in High school stage are no more worries and to be think about compared to us who are in tertiary level. Yet honestly, I am very impressed with Dr. Jose Rizal specially to his thoughts and writings. Jose Rizal for the masses is pretty straightforward. He became the Philippines’ greatest hero because he agitated for Philippine independence from Spain, for which he was shot. He was a genius, an architect, an artist, businessman, cartoonist, educator, economist, ethnologist, scientific farmer, historian, inventor, journalist, linguist, musician, mythologist, nationalist, naturalist, novelist, ophthalmic surgeon, painter, physician-surgeon, poet, propagandist, psychologist, scientist, sculptor, sociologist, and theologian. Mastered 22 languages; these included Arabic, Catalan, Chinese, English, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Malayan, Portugese, Russian, Sanskrit, Spanish, Tagalog, and other native dialects. He was an expert swordsman and a good shot. He is a very great man who is worthy to be honored.

Because what he did for us is not just for his own but for making us realize who we really are and who we’ll become. I’ve learned that it is a matter of choice that direct the students to read the novels of Rizal and allow them to analyze if the plots of the novels still apply to our present situation.

As for me, we should never forget what Rizal did for us because his death made a difference to alot of Filipino people. And that witout his presence we will never know what did really happened to our fellow filipino on how they suffer just to survive. Rizal’s course help us see the difference between the past and now. For us to be aware and careful on the things that we’re gong to do. klarisse pinon Beed-4

As a student I myself can say what is the relevance of the subject rizal of our studies, even in applying job we cant use this subject, but then ive finally realized that rizal subject is one of the important subject that we have to study, its because if we dont have knowledge about rizal maybe we have no right to call a filipino, rizal own a big part of the philippine history in the past or even rigth now,we all know that rizal is one the hero that fought for the rights of all filipinos against the colonialism of the spaniards, because of his writings, poem and novels we become popular not only in asia but all around the world.

rizal subject is very relevant to our studies as a filipino because we all know that dr. jose rizal is our national hero and we must have our own understanding that why is rizal become a hero,if we have concern and if we love our copuntry we must know the history of our country and the those person who become own a big part of the development of our own country, even in jobs we dont need our knowledge and learnings of rizal but we have to give importance the person that being part of it,and i totally agree that we have the right to continue studies about dr. jose rizal and also i am so pleasure to know the life of our one and only national hero.

and for now and until the end, honestly i erase my bad thinkings about why we have to put rizal as the one of the subject of colleges and universities, because rizal is very relevants to our daily lives,we dont have to critisize the life of rizal,we have to erase our questions regarding the life of our national hero,we have contentment of what our curriculum is and we have no right to questioned the rizal subject,we have to be proud that until now rizal exist even in not in physical but in memories “life can be lost, but memories will remain forever”right?..we have to give more importance the life of our beloved hero, and we to put in our minds that rizal is part of our day to day living,be proud of what you have studied,be proud of what you have learned and learn to treasure this subject in your life..

Teaching the course should not only involve memorizing and reading the novel, instead a presentation of Rizal as an ordinary boy or student who exerted his utmost efforts to be a great and functional person will be highly appreciated by students, while also taking note of his flaws as a person and how he surmounted them through his strengths. Some would argue that the Rizal Law is obsolete and needs to be abolished or amended. But the law is very simple, yet it caters to the Filipinos not to hero-worship but to remember a hero who chose death for the sake of his convictions and of his country. To pay tribute to an exemplary Filipino who even in his lifetime was already revered by his compatriots with the likes of Andres Bonifacio and Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. This law indirectly guides us to live according to Rizal’s examples by knowing him and by reading him.

The relevance of rizal course even if rizal is a minor subject. It is important to take this subject because according to Republic Act 1425 in june 19 1956 give rise to the implementation or the rizal course as a requirement to all students who are endrolled in different colleges and universities.when they are not taking this course the student they cannot graduate in his course without taking and passing rizal subject.and also rizal it is important to us to recognized the relevance rizal’s ideas, thoughts & life values present conditions in the community and our country.and also to develop an understanding and appreciation of the qualities, behavior and character of rizal,as well as his thoughts and ideas, and thus foster the development of moral character, personal disciple, citizenship, vocational efficiency. Many students complain why we take up the rizal course even if they could not use the name of rizal as one of thier referrence when they apply for the job.nor rizal they could back up them if they need help. The rizal course is important to us to know the life of rizal..we learn more a lot about rizal the writing of rizal. .

In Relevance of Rizal Course many students complain why is it necessary to take up the Rizal Course where in they could not use the name of Rizal as their references when they apply for a job.And one of the reasons also is that Rizal Course is a minor subject. In Republic Act 1425 in June 19,1956 gave rise to thew implement of the Rizakl course as e requirement for graduation to all degree and non-degree courses in the tertiary education. It is stated there that every college students should take up this subject whatever their course are.But the importance of this is for to recognize the Rizal’s ideas, thoughts and life values present conditions in the community and our country. The most inportant why we as a student should take up this subject because Rizal serves as a model of all Filipinos for He choose to fight against to the spaniards through His writings. Therefore Rizal subject is the most important subject to all other subjects. In taking up this subject we learn a lot of things about the the deeds of Rizal as well as His writings.Because of His writings Rizal’s life was in dangered. But still He choose to continue for what He started. The main reason why we should take up this course to give value of all the writings of Rizal. He deserves to ber pur National Hero.

' src=

For me,as a student in a university. There must be an importance of rizal is,because he is our national hero so we must take up his subject so that we cant forget all his sacrifices, sufferings in our country just to protect it from those spaniards. Although we cant see him personally now, but those his writings, poems, articles, etc. had made us proud for being a Filipino in this country. Because we had a hero who made the philippines proud also. We should take good care of his writings and many more because this is the only treasure that rizal made us, so that we could able to know whats the differences of the present now and yesterday.

So for me, its an achievement as a filipino to take up his subject in order to become a better person someday, because of rizal’s influenced to us, that we should have to strive more in more to become a succesful person in the near future. Rizal is a good leader to us, a person that full of dreams, and a man has nothing to fear even death. So that Rizal is a inspiration to us in every struggles would come in our way. There must be a solution on it.

Students could read Rizal’s essay, “The Philippines a Century Hence,” and realize that he is just as relevant today as he was more than a century ago. Read Rizal’s words: “All the petty insurrections that have occurred in the Philippines were the work of a few fanatics or discontented soldiers, who had to deceive and humbug the people or avail themselves of their powers over their subordinates to gain their ends. So they all failed.

But history is usually kind to its victims. It sacrificed Rizal at the altar of martyrdom and immortality, a Rizal showing the world and his people that one could die unafraid, proudly and with dignity for one’s country. This was the Rizal that was the subject of veneration by the Katipunan and the popular imagination of the masses, and one that continues in some of our millennarian movements. That was how that martyrdom was used by the 1896 revolutionaries, as Rizal was already a personality known for his well-rounded genius, his open defiance to the clerico-fascist friars through his novels and other writings. The Katipuneros whom Rizal had condemned began spreading the word that Rizal was actually their adviser and his dramatic death geometrically multiplied the ranks of the Katipunan that even his beloved Josephine Backen and his brother and sisters later joined it. The author Quibuyen even provides the insightful detail based on the memoirs of General Santiago Alvarez that Rizal’s last poem handwritten in Spanish on the eve of his execution, that is, ” Mi Ultimo Adios” (My Last Farewell), was directly and immediately given by Rizal’s family to Andres Bonifacio who translated it into its first Tagalog version. Rizal’s death signified the death of reformism, the futility of the passive resistance to an armed colonial power. He was the unifying personality for all forces that had grievances against Spain.

Every individual, especially nowadays, undoubtedly has a lazy side. In Psychology, this would be part of our “shadow”, the darkest part of our personality. In the case of students, this laziness lies in the experience of pressure, particularly in subjects or courses. After all, as the article implies, who would want to study about the life of a dead person when it is not really relevant to our chosen fields of discipline, especially in the working stage after graduation?

Despite of the above-mentioned concept, it is still appropriate that the Rizal law should be implemented. In my stand, it is agreeable that it would not only be able to influence the students. It would likewise help to develop their critical thinking, especially in being aware of the Philippine situation, whether before or now. As what the article says, it could help in the betterment of the society when the students are aware and active. Of course, this is through the educational implications of the subject and the teaching principles utilized by the teacher.

The whole character, embodied in the person of Rizal, which includes his principles, virtues, ideals, values and strengths, would help serve as a role model to Philippine people, and more importantly, to the young ones who are full of aspirations and dreams.

To sum up, Rizal law should be implemented. Despite of its being a minor subject, it is equally important to other subjects because of its special educational implications that would help bring about the awareness and activeness of Filipinos, particularly the youth. The image of Rizal could serve as a role model. His undying courage, passion, and love for the country, though in the midst of danger, should be inculcated in the minds and hearts of every Filipino.

my reaction about the relevance of Rizal course is agree and believe that the Rizal course is very important to the students, eventhough they say that the Rzal course can’t help finding a job,but they never know that Rizal course can give us thoughts, ideals, dreams, priciple and coviction that might be an influential to people’s life.As they aproved the Rizal law that the Rizal course is compulsory you have to take that course or else you canno’t graduate. It is very important because you can learn the culture.political, economic and social afairs in the past and you can compare it to the present.

In that also you can developed your critical thinking, and Rizal experiences is can teach us more brave to face the discrimination of the other culture and other country because as i learn that in times of Rizal all filipinos are called by the spaniards as indios, bastos, ignorante and other discriminating words because of Rizal he proved that filipnos are not like that we filipinos are brave and have an initiative or intelligent. Many experiences of Rizal can teach us and can give us inspiration that’s why we should learn about Rizal’s life and his works.

More importantly of learning the Rizal course is the value of being religious,a loving and obedient son or daughter to his parents and to your siblings. In my opinion i am agree in that law it is because it can improve my knownedge and to give inspiration in every road i take. For me there ‘s nothing wrong to take that course that also can help you to be more confedence and independent. All i can say is life is nothing with out inspiration and determination like Rizal did in sacrificing his life to fight his country. This article was so interesting and I hope that everyone would be able to see this if ever possible. People nowadays have a big difference compared during Rizal’s time.

People now especially to the young ones are much more dependent on their parents and lazier depending on the level/standard of their status in their family. The article of Rizal will really awaken the life of the people or the Filipino people in serving our country well and to enlighten their mind. People now especially those who are exposed to the politics are very much corrupt and serving their family but not for the country. Many people now are going abroad for their family; they suffer a lot, work very hard just to feed their love ones. It is because of our government. They are carving for the money; they have a good life while other people are suffered. It just come to my mind that how are they became a politician when they don’t understand what really Rizal to be happened and it is useless that Rizal suffered a lot for the sake of our country, to save us from the invaders when our very own government has these greed and self interest alienated by themselves to take over our country’s goods. Rizal was a very good example or a model for the Filipino and even he is not already exist here in our world, he will be always in the heart of the Filipinos and using it as our guide or path through the right way just like what he did for our country.

The relevance of subject rizal

for me, it is important to study the subject Rizal that was implemented by our own national hero, Jose Rizal. For us to know how he fight for our country and give us idea how to be a good teenager. As we we all know that Rizal our national hero because of his good doing that we, Filipino students must follow. It is the subject that helps us to be a dood laeder to our country as what Jose Rizal did. As a national hero, we need to study his life for us to hae courage in life and do good thinhs jst like what our national hero. The study of Rizal is not just focus his life but also the history of the Philippines, the era of Rizal. And how they live their life under the spanish rules. It is interesting yet, they considered it additional burden to thier studies.

' src=

As a student I gave importance to my subject Rizal. Some student says that the subject Rizal cant help them if they apply a job and according to them it is very useless to have a subject Rizal. but for me I really give value to my subject Rizal, yes, they are right that the subject Rizal could not help them if they apply a jod because Rizal was dead long time ago,who help them if they apply a job?the soul of Jose Rizal?Thats what they are thinking of.But for me my subject Rizal gave me more knowledge because I know now the life stories long time ago,why we are in the hands of spaniards,etc..I got/gained more understanding to my subject Rizal. We need to have the subject Rizal because Rizal is our National Hero its our responsibilities to know his life story why he became our national hero. I am very thankful to have that kind of subject.

Indeed many people say that Rizal subject is no longer relevant in any course to study it. For the reason that, Rizal couldn’t help them land a job or simply because a dead person cannot help the living. Actually, I am also one of the people who oppose to study Rizal having the same reasons I suppose. But somehow, studying Rizal could help people that aren’t that strong in terms of character. Studying his life is not that entertaining but looking unto his character and works, we can see a strong willed person who fights for what he believes. What I mean is that, Rizal had his virtues, values, morals and etc. which I found relevant to look on to and to apply in life. Rizal can be an inspiration for Filipinos because Rizal didn’t degrade his race, but instead he made ways to uplift our race. We too also must follow his example as a Filipino or as a national hero to uplift our Filipino blood to the world. But again, I am not pro to this subject because it is also tiring and to think of it values and stories of great people cannot alone be found in Rizal’s life. For me it is better to attend a seminar that can change one’s character and life than to study a semester of a subject Rizal.

I might offend people because of this essay and I m sorry for that. But believe me I give two thumbs up for what Rizal has done for our country.

MY comment and the The Relevance of Rizal Course. This is importance because thi is one of the hero that save our nation because. Rizal knows all the filipino peole what he do and our country and rizal is one of a example of the true Filipino person because he is one of a genuse and fight for our country to achive our independents and Kastila. And he is a brave man. thats all mam 3.00

' src=

My comment about the topic “what is the relevance of rizal course” is that. It is honorable for us students to know about the life of rizal for because of what he contributed in our country is a success for us. if we dont know exactly what happened to rizal when he is fighting for the freedom of our country what is the use of his title as a Hero of our country. If we dont know who he is and what achievements he made for the country. And also we could learn values that we could apply to ourselves. For because the values that rizal wants owned could be develop into ourselves. For because the Rizal subject is not only a subject that rely only to works of Rizal but also the values that he had that help him a better person. That’s why it is also important for us students to know why are we studying the subject rizal. For because we are not only studying the works of rizal but also the values that we could apply to ourselves in a day to day existence. that makes the relevance of studying rizal as a subject.

' src=

The issue about the Relevance of Rizal course is good for those who dont like the subject. They can know how important the Rizal subject is.The issue can also inspire the people who are taking the Rizal subject and also those who hate the Rizal subject. For me the issue gives me the reasons that I should take the Rizal subject seriously because I thought that Rizal cant help me to my course but now i realized how important the life of Rizal is i can have my inspiration to the life of Rizal how a loving and obedient he is, a responsible student he is,a strong willed individual who stands for his convictions, and the one who loves and serves the country. Now i realize………

' src=

i think that the rizal course is important. studying the life of rizal will help us students develop our understanding. it is very useful for our future jobs. it can help our way of studying and help comprehencing a subject.

rizal is pangit!

Rizal should not be taken for granted and should be accepted and honored as part of our college curriculum. For it is our duty as his countrymen to know his sacrifices and struggles in changing the course of our history against the spanish colonizers. He is not just an ordinary person, but he is a one-of-a-kind and unique individual possessing a great character of being a nationalistic and a patriot. In which only a few people could possess. I do believe that we could gain a lot of things in his principles, writings and thoughts about life. He is a true martyr and a person worth of knowing for and being imitated. I could say that we should live our life through his great examples and apply it unto our doings and actions. He is also one of the few people that proves in our history up to this time the saying that goes “A pen is mightier than a sword”.

' src=

I don’t deny the fact that this subject will serve as an additional burden to our studies. But that was my first impression. Because when you study this subject you will notice that his life is interesting in such a fact that you can apply his ideas, his philosophy in life, and his values in daily situation. The Spaniards colonized our country for 333 years. No one dare to stood up and fight for their rights except Dr. Jose Rizal. Because of him, Filipinos learn to have the courage to fight for their freedom and to fight their love for their country. We can relate this in our country’s present situation. Like our present government which is not so much different from the Spaniard ruling. Some Filipinos were being oppressed and the corruption were being seen clearly nowadays. Rizal as our hero were being idolized and use as their inspiration because he shows an example of being nationalist and patriotic in the Filipino youth and men.

' src=

Rizal is not just like a minor subject or a subject that should we pass on it. Rizal is actually very helpful to us student, specially on Rizal’s Determination to fight against the colonization of the Spaniards. Rizal thought us many things specially on fighting for our rights and showing justice to our fellow filipinos. The Subject Rizal is a subject which is we can obtain a courageous model which fight his life till the end, Rizals death leads us to an independent nation or country which teach us student to care and preserve the in dependency of the nation. We study Rizal because asside from it is a prerequisite, it is an embodiment of us to honor the hero who died for us so that we can be saved from the colonizers who keep changing our economic activities. The Relevance of Rizal subject., it embodies the life and the doctrine of the native filipinos whcih we can use on our future instances. thank you…

It is true that Rizal course is an additional burden to students’ studies because it is a minor subject and the person that had been studied was already dead. But it is also true that Rizal’s thoughts, ideals, dreams, principles or convictions that he left might be very influential to people’s life as a basis of getting strength in their day to day existence. So which is it then? For me, since Republic Act 1425 otherwise known as Rizal law made it clear that Rizal subject is a compulsory to all students who are enrolled in different colleges and universities, then we should comply with this law. This may sound that I’m an anti-Rizal or a student who just gets bored with the subject, actually I admire the man. But, if Republic Act 1425 wasn’t approved, then maybe, I won’t take much time studying the subject.

To start, i was so confused before why Rizal is in need to study? Eventhough, it is not that related in our course that we are taking up. What for Rizal subject is? How does it help us? Now, after reading this article in this website I’ve come to realize that this subject is a big help to me not only to me but to us. We can learn lessons and advices as well. We are able to know how Rizal’s life will help us. We’ll get inspired of facing the circumstances that we do encounter in our everyday lives. We can be more active in our school, more participative because we’ll be having lots of ideas that we’ve got in Rizal’s life. We will keep in our minds that Rizal subject is part of our lives forever. Because of his being an intellectual, spiritual, loving person and so on and so forth. We are lucky to have him as our hero. Because he does have the characteristics of being one. So we can be like him in a unique way yet fundamentally equal. That’s the relevance of Rizal Course.

Praise ba Jesus and Mary!!

As a student,I don’t think Rizal subject is a burden to my studies because as far as we discuss this matter.Thera are lots of values and traits that I’ve learned which I able to apply in my daily lives. Rizal for me is a great help especially in facing problems that sometimes seems to be threats in reaching my dreams.

Yes,its true that he already gone but it doesn’t mean that we must forget him.He left a big influence in our country that we must have the courage and self determination to fight for our own right in a good and peace way.

Truly,Im proud that Im a Filipino!!!

Thank you and God bless!!!!

For me it is erelevant to study rizals life even thou he is dead surely it can healp us in our dayly life. Some student dont like the subject because they have no enterest on the subject. This are some reson that they dont like the subject.

For me, as a student, it is really significant to all the college students and to all the Filipino citizen to know his relevance of it. I do believe that he did everything to make our country more progressive for the sake of all the Filipino. It is very significant to all of us to understand the things that he had done for us. by taking this subject, we might inspire to do something that is worth for our country. I do believe that being a good student, responsible and being prayerful are the things that we might gain from learning his ideas and beliefs.I must promulgate things to ourself that will surely developed our characteristics to implement a best decision for ourselves. It help us to improve our learnings. We must work and have faith to our almighty God to make thngs to be successful.

' src=

>….that is why pala included ang Rizal course most especially sa mga college students. The thoughts of Rizal left might be very influential talaga as a Filipino and we can use it in our everyday life.

' src=

my comment about the rizal subject we should give importance to it,to developed more values and to apply of what we learn from the life of rizal. it is also nice to know that until now we filipinos have the knowledge of this subject because the school require it and the subject become more interesting.

' src=

I agree that Rizal subject has relevance to the life of the students even the person being studied was already dead..Firstly, not just only for the benefit of the teachers but mostly to the students.Because in this course, being patriotic and nationalistic reflects through the works of Rizal, our national hero. And being a student/youth as Rizal said.”YOUTH IS THE HOPE OF THE FATHERLAND”we are also responsible or we have also a part in building our community and even our country.Though, there are some students that upon hearing the word Rizal might really think,’its a kind of a boring subject’not even thinking the relevance of it. So,I just want to convince not to take for granted the subject Rizal and take it seriously because it is for our own good.

This issue came every time Rizal is taken as part of the curiculum. Yet, it is true that it is quite confusing why it became part of requirement to be taken up in college… what is the connection of it in our course??? I ws able to think of many times, for taking Rizal subject in which carrying 3 units seems so expensive and it add to the problem in school. But I have no choice but to admit the fact that it is part of the big reality. I am a filipino, and Rizal is the Philippine National Hero… It is implemented by the government to have the Rizal(Life and Works) to be part in the colloge curiculum, for it influences all our mind sets nd acts toward thing…as a part of the nation and as a filipino! I do agree with the Law that the congress implement for. 930

' src=

i agree that students should not feel burdened by the subject rizal. true, that they could not have the name rizal as reference, or have him as a backer. even if he is dead, and of no practical use to us still his life is worth studying. there is a good reason why he became our national hero, and that’s why we are studying his life to find out what made him that way. the love for his parents, for his friends, for his country, his will to survive and fight oppression, his peaceful way doing things.. all this traits should be possessed by everyone, isn’t this enough reason to study his life?

' src=

MOST STUDENT TAKES THE RIZAL SUBJECT AS A BURDEN IN THEIR STUDIES. THEY FELT THAT IT HAS NO RELEVANCE AT ALL.OTHERS SAYS WE SHOULD NOT LIVE IN PAST AND MUST MOVE ON BUT WHAT THEY DO NOT KNOW IS THAT IN ORDER TO MOVE ON WE MUST LOOK AT THE PAST IN ORDER TO LEARN AND NEVER REPEAT THE SAME MISTAKES AGAIN.

JOSE PROTASIO RIZAL MERCADO Y ALONZO REOLONDA OTHER WISE KNOWN AS JOSE RIZAL HAS ALLOT TO SHARE WITH US. LEARNINGS THAT WE CAN GET THROUGH THE EXPERIENCES THAT HE ENCOUNTERED DURING HIS TIME. LESSONS THAT WE CAN APPLY IN TO OUR OWN LIVES. DURING THOSE TIMES, AT THE VERY YOUNG AGE HE HAS ENCOUNTERED THE SUPERIORITY OF THE SPANIARDS BECAUSE HIS FATHER WAS IMPRISON BECAUSE OF AN ACCUSED BY AN SPANIARDS. IT BACAME HIS DRIVING FORCE TO STRIVE FOR KNOWLEDGE AND CLAIM THE FREEDOM OF THE PHILIPPINES AGAIN. HE EXPERIENCE ALLOT OF STUFF ALTHOUGH NOT ALL ARE GOOD BUT STILL WE CAN COUGH LESSONS FROM IT.

RIZAL FOR ME IS REALLY A BRILLIANT PERSON. HE FOUGHT WITH OUT ANY WEAPONS BUT INSTEAD HE FOUGHT WITH ONLY HIS KNOWLEDGE AND A PEN. HE WROTE NOVELS THAT AWAKEN THE HEART OF FILIPINOS THAT TIME. HE ALSO WROTE NOVELS THAT SHOWS THE SUPERIORITY OF SPANIARDS BUT WAS NOT LITERALLY WROTE ON THE NOVELS. HE WROTE IT FIGURATIVELY. IN THIS WAY WE WAS ABLE TO WOKE UP THE HEARTS OF THE FILIPINO AND GIVE THE WILL TO FIGHT FOR THEIR OWN FREEDOM. THE DEATH OF RIZAL HAS ALLOT OF MEANING AND RELEVANCE THAT WE STUDENT SHOULD LEARN. HIS SPIRIT OF PATRIOTISM IS A LEGACY THAT INSPIRE US IN SPITE OF THE TRIALS OUR COUNTRY IS ACING NOW.SPECIALLY THIS TIME, WE NEED AN INSPIRATION FOR PATRIOTISM.

Thats right ma’am!! jejeje.. rizal is an example of man who had a great love for his country. i admire him, because he takes his time to help filipinos to achieve freedom against the spaniards. He continue publishing a book to let filipinos realize that we should fight for our country.. our OWN country!! hindi dapat tayo magpaapi sa mga dayuhan na yan!!.. . honestly, unang tingin ko plang sa book ntin,, i doubt if i can survive reading those 200+ pages,, pero so far, kaya ko nman plah.. Rizal contributed a lot for us filipino, and he deserves to be recognize!! 1:00

I was indeed, one of the typical college student who wonders why do we have to include Rizal in our subjects. It would not help me in my work interviews nor in passing the CPA board exam. Reading the article, made me realize I need not to focus fully on my future career. I live a huge society where social, political and economical abuse are rampant ;thus, I should also study on how to solve these problems on my own little way. And studying the life of Rizal would definitely serve as an instrument for me to have an idea on what an ideal Filipino is-like Rizal who protects his country and people- and eventually help in making our country a home for Filipinos embodied with values of a true Filipino, love for country and people. I should be knowledgeable especially on the past events that triggered our current situation and learn how Rizal contributed in the freedom that we enjoy today.

We may be suffering in the problems our country is presently experiencing but in studying Rizal’s ideals, we will be able to have an idea what to do and how to help. Our steps maybe small but it would definitely be of big help. Let us appreciate the subject, after all, the law would not obliged us to take it if it is not significant at all. Besides, it is for us and for our country as well.

….honestly….. i dont like the subject because since i enter schooling Rizals name was already mentioned his works his actions and even his writings and the worst thing is in college it is a requirement in order to graduate, it is very boring subject becasue after 6 years in elementary talking about rizals even high school and even up to college we are still talking about it, i find it redundant. i am not against rizal as our national hero but please elementary, high school is enough, anyway there are still documentaries or movies available in the store right now. It would be helpful for us students to know more about Jose Rizal as our National hero. How he fight the Spaniards for us Filipino’s to be free from them.He made a lot of sacrifices and so on..

But sometimes honestly i get bored every time we will be having our class about Rizal. We are thought since elementary and high school about our national hero, who he is..Why until in college days?

Maybe because they want us not to forget what Rizal did to our country. How intelligent Rizal is ,How he respect his parents and his brother and sisters. His a good example to us students, for us to strive hard and how to be a good individual

They are right, that Rizal cannot help us in finding a job in the future but we should study this couse, Rizal to be specific because it gives us an inspiration to study well and to be like him. Rizal did a great work through his writings for us filipinos to be free from spaniards and for us to be liberalized and feel the beauty of life. Maybe other students said that Rizal course is not that important because its just a minor subject but the emphasis of why we study Rizal is for us to know what’s happening in the past and how Rizal deal with those things.

I think it’s necessary to study Rizal’s life because of of his great contribution to the Filipino people and to the Philippines. His great knowledge, ideas, experiences, thoughts and etc. gives us strength and courage to become more aggressive in achieving our goals in life. Rizal as part of the history in our country, we must acknowledge his presence in school by learning about his life experiences which have a big impact towards Filipino people. Still the relevance of Rizal until now exists.

' src=

We now live in a modern world by electronic gadgets, high technology, scientific and genetic breakthroughs. The Philippines, in spite of its status as an industrializing country, also manages to get by with the current trend of development and industrialization. It is a fact that education plays a vital role in the growth of a country, for an educated and functional population maneuvers the fate of its country and its fate as a people.

At present, many students, particularly those taking up technical, engineering and nursing courses, ask about the relevance of Rizal Course to their courses and planned career paths. Some of them wonder if the subject will just be a mere repetition of what they had during their high-school days, while some insist that the subject, whatever its code, may be just a waste of time and money. Thus, most students tend to be antagonistic not only to the subject but to the teacher and, worst, to Jose Rizal himself.

Rizal Course is mandated by law under Republic Act 1425, authored and fought for by Claro M. Recto. R.A. 1425 is also known as the Rizal Law.

It directs educational agencies such as the Department of Education and the Commission of Higher Education to include in the curricular of all schools, colleges and universities, public or private, the study of the life of our national hero, with emphasis on the original or unexpurgated versions of the Noli and El Fili.

It obliges all the libraries of all schools, colleges and universities to maintain an adequate number of copies of Noli and El Fili in their collections as well as other materials related to the life of Rizal.

The antagonistic attitude of students toward the Rizal Course can be generally traced to our historical unawareness and indifference. Some of us already stopped caring about our significant past, thus making us ignorant of the good lessons we should have learned for our own good. Some of us were just so preoccupied that we had no time to be conscious and look back to learn from the deeds and principles of the people who started shaping the destiny of our nation.

Another factor that’s also fanned negative impressions about the Rizal Course was the way teachers and professors handle and deliver the subject.

Teachers can direct their students to read the novels of Rizal and allow them to analyze if the plots of the novels still apply to our present situation. Provocative questions must be asked among learners in order to allow them to think critically. Professors can assign them tasks that require researches in order for them to visit the school libraries and use the library’s Rizaliana Collection.

Today, among the many things that Rizal is most famous for is his very famous proverb: “Ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling Wika ay higit pa ang amoy sa bulok at mabahong isda”.

Having Rizal subject in the college curriculum is such a burden, it consumes time to be studied with, it requires enough focus but through this we can be able to know about the life of great person, wherein we can look into, can be use as our role model an can also be our great guide in living our daily life. In knowing also the life of our national hero we could also see the great nationalistic trait of a Filipino citizen wherein we could also be… Thats why iI gave credit to those person that continued to encourage people to study Jose Rizal.

' src=

Being a student, who aim to graduate with no hindrances i should took up the course with open heart, because that is neccesary to finished my tertiary level of education.Yes! a admit that really this course is not so important in terms of my field course.Infact, i cannot use this as a reference especially in my major field. For me knowing the life of Dr.Jose Rizal is useless. But if we look in the inner sense and point of views of the Rizal’s subject, practically it has a great help.I,should’nt limit my point of view of views within my self alone, rather i will include all kind of posibilities that i know.During the time that our country was under the colonialization of Spanish government, our fellow countrymen experienced tragic and hardships from Spanish govrnment. And among all the other heroes not one of them made a ways as what Dr.Jose Rizal did.His writings, his works enligthtened the mind of other Filpino Heroes to fight for our Independence.Hence if there no Rizal during that time maybe we are still in a Spanis regime until now. That’s why he considered as the most influencial man ever lived during his time. And by this he proved to us that a pen is truly migthier than a sword. Try to take a look in our economic, education and government today,in just a glance what we notice?Truly we cannot deny the fact that it was really devastating.Economic was not growing, education was not in a quality one,nor it was not uplifting and the most frusrating one is our government that oficials did not do anything for the development of our country instead what they take busy is on how to corrupt our own country. But who will be blame for all of this?NONE!!!!! because we Filipino people chose them to rule our fatherland. Having this kind of government and knowing this kind of event in our country,we people of the Phillipines should open our eyes and get involve to what was is happening today. Taking the Rizal course gave us knowledge on how to live practical but with concern to our own country. In my self this course gave me an understanding that even who we are we can do something better in our country. Not exactly as what our national hero did for our country but even in a little way we can help.By this as a future teacher i can inculcate to the mind of my students that who we are we can do for a change.

Rizal subject is not a burden or boring for me because we need to know what have had happened in the past and the reasons why rizal was considered as our national hero. We need to consider and apply his principles in life that would somehow give us encouragement as we vanquish our future towards politics and governance, socio-cultural, economics and even religious aspect.

Well, most students think that this subject is boring because they just take for granted what had had rizal did in our country. Maybe as a new generation, they cannot relate what are the good things that he made which liberated our country from our oppressors for a long time of sufferings.

How i wish that the next generations will pay such an appreciation and treasure the contributions and influences of Rizal whom worth dying for.Taking this subject is our way of saying thank you to him.

' src=

The Rizal subject is truly a relevant course for us students. Reflecting and knowing the life and the history of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal is indeed a noble idea because its thoughts, ideals and principles that it has, might serves as an instrument for us students to reflect on how great Rizal was and it might give us an inspiration on how to be a fruitful person especially on the present situation of our society.I would strongly believe on implementing the Rizal subject as a compulsory to all students in different colleges and universities because Rizal subject is a meaningful one for it thoughts involves many aspects of life that is greatly related on our present situation.Through this,it would greatly help us to deepen more our principles and thoughts towards our day to day living and could develop more our critical thinking that would make as a better person not only for our family and for ourselves but most especially for the society as well,as what our national hero established.

' src=

Yes, it is on my mind why do we need to study the life of rizal? where in fact this cannot help us nor serve as our reference in future career. Well, on the other side, I realize the sense of this subject.

This subject gave me some information who really Dr. Jose Rizal is. He is not an ordinary person but rather an extraordinary person. Through this subject, I gain moral values. It gave me a brighter vision about my tomorrow. It makes me strong to face any hindrances and obstacles that may I encounter. Not only that, through this subject also many sons and daugthers will open their mind about the importance of having or living with your really family. That being cared and loved by the members of the family. Even how critical or tragic is the situation that your family’s facing basta’t your living together you can really feel that you are not alone. It gave moral lessons to each and everyone.

Rizal Course teaches everyone to be loving to family and fellowmen, nation, culture, customs and traditions and most of all patronizing the really ours. Furthermore, it gave also moral lessons, determination to the young mind, and being participative of some current activities and issues for the development of the nation.

More importantly, Rizal Course gave some virtue and value of being humanistic. That is why, this subject must taken by all students’ with significance not only because this is on the prospectus or stated on the curriculum.

Studying other people’s lives has nothing to do with your career on the near future but could be an inspiration to strive more and continue what is needed to pursue. Rizal’s life was always been a good profile to follow since he plays a good example to students who are striving hard to reach to the place they are aiming for. We can never bring back Rizal to life and let him somehow teach us to be loving, obedient to our family and become a responsible student but by reading and reflecting on what he have done would somehow help us become a better person and maybe being better would become a big help to our nation.

' src=

For me… taking rizal subject is a great addition for me , 1st of all.. you would learn the history of our country, merely speaking of the name rizal, you would also learn a negative of positive attitude of of our fellow country men in his time for each chapter you takle.you would encounter all the strugles, all the sacrifice ,and triumph.

by idolizing him. you would expect perfection.

rizal subject is not a dull… its inspiring….

The relevance of rizal course is letting each students know and aware what our national hero has done for the sake of his fellowmen. It is the benifets of the students of having such course in order to have a knowledge about our own religion, language, culture, historical people and of course to our own native land.Dr.Jose Rizal has parted his bravery and patriotic belief and attitude,he is the only one who take the risk of going abroad just to observe their culture and language. He studied Spanish language so that he can have his own technique to easily alliviate his people who are oppressed with Spanish tyrants.Rizal course is a minor subject, but then it gives the students more knowlegeable about the past events and literary pieces of the Philliphines,In order for the students have specific knowledge about Rizal subject and the significance of studying such course.Lastly,it is part of the Filipino lives because he is a native of our land and as what the saying that goes “TANGKILIKIN ANG SARILING ATIN”.By:Jazlyn Abaquita..MWF..7:00-8:00pm

In This issue about “The Relevance Of Rizal Course”,i can say that it is not a big deal for having a course like Rizal. In my part,im so very happy, because of rizal ideas, thoughts, works and writings is the one that gave me strength to face the problems that i encounter in my life. And also he is our National Hero, so he has a right to be respect because he is a patriotic person,he fought for our country through pen and not bloody war. Yes, your right that the course of rizal could not use for applying job. But in my opinion, having a good attitude is the thing that we can get from him, or let say that he is our model, to be good person in our society, even though rizal course ay hindi part of the requirements in applying a job.Malay natin maging president tayo ng one of the known company, if like natin si rizal ,in the sense of kung matalino tayo, then matulungin, mapagmahal sa kapwa at sa trabaho, then may concern about sa ating country. And then mas mabuti nga yong may course na rizal para naman may alam tayo about the life, works and writings of rizal. Kasi since high school or elementary, yung alam lang natin kay rizal, was he is our National Hero diba?,so it is so good that in college may Rizal na corso. And Then, it was stated in the Rizal Law Republic Act 1425 it was approved in June 1956, state that Rizal subject is a compulsory to all students who are enrolled in different colleges and universities.Obviously, a student cannot graduate in his or her course without taking and passing Rizal Course. Therefore, Rizal course is very important to all other subjects. And also Rizal course was very interesting,in the sense of a book that our teacher required us because all was stated clearly and understandable. And of course my teacher also in rizal, because of her very nice na pag discused hindi ko na feel ang pagka bored sa Rizal ko na subject.Sometimes i felt that rizal was alive, when i read his life. I cannot forget his saying na”Ang Kabataan ang Pag-asa ng Bayan” Because i can relate sa ganyan na saying.Of course kasi, the youth are the survivors of all problems, if all the matured cannot handle. So let’s go back to Rizal course, Another important of rizal course is that when you go abroad then someone ask you thier about the life of our national hero, then you can answer him/her directly without doubtful.Because you have already a prior knowledge about rizal, when you still in college. Then another also, as a soon teacher in this generation, when my pupil will ask me about Rizal, automatically i can share them the whole life of rizal, and that was the advantages and relevance of rizal course. I HOPE THAT NA MAY MAKUKUHA KAYO SA COMMENTS KUNG ITO,KASI IT IS vERY IMPORTANT TO STUDY RIZAL LIFE.Kung sino young gustong mag dis agree, i will tell you frankly that your just wasting your time, so let say that let just face the reality.Thank you for reading, have a nice day.

Honestly, when i read this article i also asked myself what is the relevance of Rizal’s course.I’ve also read that came from a student that why we should take the Rizal’s subject if when we look for a job it cuold not be applied? For me that’s wrong because the life, the history of Rizal help a lot to our country to be recognized. Through Rizal subject people, person who studied the life of Rizal will learn a lot of information from economic, political, social, cultures, customs, beliefs, tradions of the of the other people. we also leaned from his writings which were the Noli Me Tangere And the El Filisterismo and the other poems the deeds and works of the spaniards to the filipinos. How Rizal fight the colonizers using his pen and papers.Through this subject also kahit di nila nagagawa ay pinipilit nilang e apply those ideas, dreams, principles , thoughts and beliefs of of Rizal’s sa kanilang sarili.Dahil sa subject na ito it help a lot because it influence to the filipino people. Rizals subject is interesting especially whjen the teacher taught meaningfully and make the subject not boaring to the students like the other teacher did na ginagawa nilang theater dahil sa sinasabuhay nila ang story ni Rizal.Rizal’s values ay nagagaya at sinusunod ng most of the students gaya ng pagiging relegios, mabait at masunurin.

what can i say about this issue is this, as a student it is very true that we can somewhat say that the Rizal course is an additional burden to our course, because it is not related to my course, IT, but after reading the issue it might be somewhat important to have a Rizal course, especially if this course really improves critical thinking, and we can learn values, that our national hero possesses. I can somewhat say that we must live CHRIST-like, like our RE-ED teachers always say and RIZAL-like.

Having this issue read i can now say that what we study is not the dead RIZAL but the RIZAL which encourages other filipinos to fight for their right, their country, and to fight for what they love. we are studying the RIZAL that lives deeply in each filipino

' src=

It’s okay for me to have a rizal course.

' src=

Including Rizal subject in our curriculum is really a burden for me, because I think I wouldn’t be able to use it in my desired profession. I find it boring to study his life and works because it doesn’t really concern me that much. i am the type of a person who would rather go for a more challenging and difficult subjects than settle with subjects that doesn’t require much analysis. But as I take this subject, I realize that the challenge lies here. I had hard time memorizing names, events, and understanding the main cause of his martyrdom. For me, he seems like a man who knows just what to do to get what he wants. He’s a man of courage, put dreams to reality and a man of values. He made things that had made impacts to peoples of the Philippines and to some parts of the world. As I continue learning more about this subject, I realized the reason why Rizal subject is being required in college. Its about learning his values, reviving the desire of getting more knowledge, and make the youth see how one person like Rizal protected the dreams of the future generations.Rizal was the person envied by many in his time until to this very day. Not one person today could ever have the courage that Rizal had. Not one person could ever immitate the person who left footprints that resembled his virtues and the totality of his image as a son, a brother and a citizen. so, to immortalize him and his works, every colleges and universities are being required to include Rizal subject in every courses. And that for sure students like me will also desire to be like him, “The man who never stopped dreaming and worked for his dreams”.

' src=

Before, for me Rizal course is a another burden as a student. But then during I started studying about rizal’s life it makes me such an interesting subject. Many thoughts about him that i do not know before, then now I kmow something about him..He is very inspiring person, especially to the students.he have a strong personality even though many people sorrounds him that discriminate him.

Well,my comments about this thing is that what is written above are so true that some people are thinking that studying the life of our national hero is no longer important because hes no longer existing to help us or guide us..But of what i understood in our class discussion studying hes life is so important in todays generation,as a youth of today we can change the kind of life we have, maybe in out own little way we can help our society by being aware of what is happening nowadays..For example, helping our environment so that it wont get worst for the years to come, being responsible plays an important role in the happiness of everyone like our national hero he loves the nature so much, the flowering plants, everything in it that is why we should do the same..

According to Republic Act 1425, students should take the Rizal subject in order to graduate. In the first place, I was wondering why is it significant for the student to enroll this subject even though this is not important when finding job. Out of my curiosity, I enroll this subject, the topic is not an ordinary subject, it is an interesting. You will learn here how to appreciate our own history through the works and achievements of Rizal. It was implemented or require to the secondary and college students in order to enlightened the Filipinos of what have done by Rizal to our own country. To inspire Rizal because he gave honor to our beloved nation. He raised the Filipinos being slave by the spanish tyrants. And it is relevant for us to learn and understand the real essence of Rizal subject.

Ma’am ,is it true that the deadline of this project dated August 21,2008? Ms. Galindo,I am very sorry for this very late comment about the topic. Its just so happened that recently i realized dat evrytym i face on a computer,my eyes would begin to become watery again and i would feel that particular headache. It really is a stupidity dat the idea of requesting sum1 to read d topics and to type ds comment, came very late. Imagine?=)

Anyway,Ma’am I enjoyed ‘listening’ 2 a frnd wyl she was reading ur posted topics. About dat “RELEVANCE OF PHILIPPINE HISTORY SUBJECT” thing,it made me realize that somehow, you’re right.=) I was actually one of those students who never gave much importance 2 history subject and one of those hu kept complaining why should we,students, really have to take nd learn such subject which is actually very far and not connected from the job that ive been hoping to do in d near future.Ive been also wondering ever since y do we have to discuss ’bout those thngs dat hav had happened already wen in fact, there are sayings like,”Past is past” and “When all is said and done, juz leave ’em that way”.And now,i realized how stupid I really am for not having come up w/ the idea that you had.I even thought dat I was a very appreciative one but den i remembered dat i didnt even gave much importance to our national hero,Dr.Jose Rizal for he had sacrificed even his own life for d sake of his own country. For our own country. Its sad wen u do not knw ur own country, isnt it?=) Now i knw.We took all the benefit of what had happened a long tym ago without even appreciating and being thankful;without even giving importance 2 d philippine history and all that deals with it. Thanks Ma’am Galindo for raising the philippine flag! =)hehehe Thanks for giving us the chance to understand..more clearly. Thanks for helping us become even more broad-minded. Thanks a lot!We appreciated you a lot. =)

Rizal subject can help somehow the students or anyone who desire to succed in his life. In Rizal subject, it’s full of inspirations that you may internalized in the topics. It teaches you to be persevere as what Rizal did in every failure he experienced. It pays you to be determined in every goal you want to achieve as what Rizal did that no matter problems arose in his life he still deternined to attain his glory. The subject also reflects the patriotism of our hero. With this, a person who is numb and no concern to his country will be enlighted perhaps. Dr. Jose Rizal died to his country for fighting the independence of the Philippines and that shows he was really a magnificent model of patriotic man. The life of Rizal of being a good son was also written in the book. A person who reads and knows this act will be inspired to make things good to his parent and siblings. Rizal is really a noble man that worth to look upon. He is no ordinary man but nevertheless an extraordinary individual from the history and onwards. The ordeal of our hero is not pursuading us to follow his deeds. But we can make a difference to be a good exemplar as a person of our own. We cannot imitate Rizal because we can never be but we are entitled to showcase our our own prowess for the common good of every tao.

For me, the subject rizal is very important to us students. Not just to know the life of rizal but to know his passion and determination in freeing the Filipino people from the cruel governance of the spaniards in his time. It is to make Rizal as the model to all Filipino people by being a religious person, a loving and obedient son to his parent/family, a responsible student, a strong willed individual who stands for his conviction and the one who loves and serves the country even if it cost his life.

The teachers that teaches the subject matter should have a broad knowledge on the works and life of rizal in order for the students to understand well the subject…..

Yes,it is true for me that Rizal’s course is an additional burden for me because the person we are trying to study was already dead. But since the Republic Act 1425 implemented that every student must get the Rizal subject or else we can’t graduate. We never forget that the ideals, dreams, principles of our hero helped to bring the freedom we have in present,he left might be very influence to people’s life as a basis of getting our daily existence. But we need to accept the fact of reality that Rizal can’t no longer at this time.It is important for us to face the reality of life and just remain looking forward not the past of yesterday. It never intend of what the heroes done. But there are still important subject we need to study and involve ourselves for the present economics we have now.

The issue have its own point but we highly empasize the existence and on how did Rizal help the Filipinos to fought against the Spaniards. We can also connect the issue by our personal life. It has a point that it must not only focuses on how his life and writings and love affair happen, we must indicated the culture, values and the traditions of the Filipinos.

Also, Rizal are the one who started the association which the educated man rejoined force to plan against the Spaniards. Without the Rizal course, we cant know the history beyond why Rizal deserved to be our national hero. Without knowing it, we cant share by the other country the hardness of our history and on how the Filipinos joined their hands to get the independence.

Personal Essay on the Relevance of the Rizal CourseThere are so many reasons why Rizal Course is important and most especially relevant untilnow. Personally, a history that cannot be bent by time but only by people is taught during our earlydays in school. I was thankful and excited when I try to reminisce those days. By the time that wefaced the reality of life, it is true that we tend to just focus on our survival and forget or lose touchon the things that built us to where we are now.History for me is very important. Those are real happenings, settings of the past that ourheroes fought so hard for. Hundreds of years may have passed but I am glad that the story of ourheroes and the only Rizal, has inspired so many people and transpired to many revolutions forfreedom, the one that we cannot have for so many years under different colonists. There are many people who are trying to distort our history, who were never in favor ofour independence, who wants to succumb to the ruling of the bad ones, but I know that as trueFilipino citizens, we will fight with our minds and over our dead body can they have control againon us. And it is true that it is not only about the Spaniards, Japanese, Americans and whoever elsewould like to colonize us, but in the sense of being a citizen in this country, it is important to havefreedom, no abuse of power, and where everyone is equal. Rizal taught us that we can fight for itbecause who else will. We will achieve it once we are all united and educated about what ishappening. Despite being different, we will all be united for one goal because of our love for ourcountry.I would like to insert the coming election into why the course is very relevant. I think thatif we all are educated as to why we should vote for the most qualified, honest, genuine, accountable, transparent leaders, we are able to retain the freedom that our heroes shed bloodwith. We have to put in mind that whoever we put in that power, will either get us all up or digour graves deeper. We are putting our hopes in life on them but know that Rizal taught us that wehave the right to take it back. He taught us to always care for our motherland and to never takeadvantage of it. So, I hope that everyone will be more enthusiastic about learning our history andthe works of Jose Rizal. His story should never be forgotten, so our love for the Philippines will stayuntil we die.Submitted by:Monique ColoscosSubmitted to:Sudavee EvangelistaBSPT3Y2
