Welcome to our homework grids. Children in all year groups from Reception to Y6 will receive a half termly grids with a range of exciting topic activities to complete alongside key skills tasks. Please see the letter and 'How To' guide, below for a full explanation of how these work.

Copies of the grids can be found here too.

Great examples of homework tasks will be celebrated in assemblies and displayed in school. You can also see examples on the Homework Heroes tab accessed via Homework Grids to the left of this page.

For those children and families who produce homework digitally, we have a dedicated email address to which you can send photos, videos powerpoints etc. Work will be forwarded to the relevant teachers.

[email protected]

How to use the homework grids:

-Each grid lasts for a half term

-New grids will be issued each half term

-Children will need to complete one piece of topic / project homework per week (left hand side of the grid)

-Children will need to practise the key spellings & key maths facts (right hand side of the grid)

-Children can choose up to 2   topic / project based tasks from any one area such as maths & problem solving or RE, per half term (to avoid children only ever completing topic activities from the RE section, for example, up to 2 tasks can be selected from any one area)

-Children will need to decide how they would like to practise their key spellings and key maths facts. (each grid will give suggestions of how to do this. Websites, apps and ideas will be given. However parents need to support their children in finding the best ways to secure these facts. We hope this is something you can do together.)

-Children will need to submit their homework on Wednesdays (this will consist of one topic task and evidence of key spelling & maths facts practice).

All homework will be acknowledged by the class teacher and or teaching assistant. This may be verbally, a written comment, remark or sticker.  Please don't feel work has not been appreciated or noticed if comments are not written; we always look at everything that is sent in. Extra special pieces of homework may earn a homework hero certificate too!

Copies of the grids can be found below.

Homework grids.

At LGJS we want our pupils to develop into well-rounded individuals. It is important that they get time to take part in co-curricular interests, both in and out of school, and they need time to relax and to spend time with family. Homework gives the opportunity for pupils to consolidate what they have been learning in school, and lets them find out more about the topics they most enjoy.

Kinders and Reception

There are activities that we encourage parents and children to work together on at home. These practical activities are designed to support the learning that is happening in school. They include individualised reading and phonic activities at various levels; maths games and are not expected to take longer than 10-15 minutes each evening.

Homework is split into three strands:

Essentials – reading, spellings and maths facts, along with some more formal homework where appropriate.

Online support – as a school we subscribe to a number of online portals where pupils are encouraged to practice Maths and English.

The Pick and Mix grids – these grids allow pupils to choose a few activities which particularly interest them and spend the term working on them before bringing them in to share with the class.

p1 homework grid

Give your pupils more control over their homework by allowing them to choose from a grid. There are six grids plus one evaluation page that can be photocopied onto the back. This is a great way to get parents involved in homework and encourages discussion at home. This resource would suit most children in the middle stages but could be used for extending able pupils or supporting those who require extra help.

Description

Homework made easy and engaging with these homework grids.

This resource includes 5 homework grids that are editable/adaptable if needed, to suit your class and students. Engaging and relevant hands-on activities for your students to work on at home.

This resource would also be suitable for remote or online learning.

How to use:

I print out a homework grid for each child each week, to be glued into a homework book or folder. Students complete a set number of activities each week, giving students choice, independence and ownership of their learning. Students circle, shade the boxes or tick the activities that they have completed and may include examples of their homework in their homework book or folder (such as notes, cards, letters, drawings etc, photos etc.) Students hand their homework book or folder in at the end of the week with a parent comment. The page border and Homework Grid lettering can also be coloured in by students as an extra task.

Please give feedback if you enjoy this resource and I'll add some more grids in the future!
