When I feel low, I prefer playing it instead of just going shopping or playing computer games. The game often reminds me of how my father taught me some simple techniques for defending myself from bullies by hitting them with the ball. It was one of the first lessons my father taught me on how to defend myself instead of relying on my big brother in school.

How to Play Badminton

Playing it is easy. With two rackets and a shuttlecock, you can get a game going. The shuttlecock, which is essentially the “ball” in badminton, is made from goose feathers and attached to a small piece of cork. The rackets for playing are light, weighing about 90 grams.

When playing, you need to smash the shuttlecock in the opponent’s direction. Players need a lot of energy to ensure that the shuttlecock crosses over the net in the opposite direction. Shot-wise, there are six main types of shots: the serve, the clear, the drop, the smash, the backhand drive, and the forehand drive.

A Woman Playing Badminton

Badminton is played on a rectangular court. Like tennis. the court is halved with a net; the only difference is that the net is raised higher and the ball is lighter. The game was derived from the house of Duke of Beaufort, in England, where the first game of badminton was played.

The best part about playing badminton is that it gives me a reason to gather my friends and family and spend time with them. My friends and I have played in several competitions, but I have never reached the finals until recently – I was the finalist in the Austrian badminton open tournament for teenagers. In the end, I was the second runner-up.

The most interesting thing about badminton is that the more you play, the more you feel challenged by your opponent. Getting involved in the game frequently makes you want to perfect your skills and become a great player.

Playing it is more fun, engaging, and fulfilling than spending time immersed in computer games. Having played this game for a long time, my body is in great shape, and I have made many friends along the way. To me, it is more than a sport that keeps me active. It is a great way for me to unwind, destress, and meet new people.

Have you ever tried playing badminton? If not, it is a great time to start. Find someone who plays and get coached on the basics of the sport. I guarantee that all the stress you’ve experienced on that day will melt away. Once you have mastered the basics, try getting involved in a singles match and see how well you fare. Competition has a way of bringing out your need for excellence and drive to succeed.

Even if you’re not sure if you’ll like it, give it a try. You never know if it will eventually become your favorite activity or if you’ll end up joyfully winning your first championship in a few years’ time.

Short Essay On My Favorite Game Badminton

For many people it’s basketball, and for some, it’s volleyball. But to me, badminton is the sport that makes me feel happy, energized, inspired, and fulfilled. I never really thought that I would end up playing competitively and be so attached to the game, but it has now become a regular and important part of my life. I can no longer imagine my weekends without it.

An indoor game played with two rackets and a light shuttlecock, badminton is quite heavy on running and arm work. The shuttlecock flies on a different trajectory than other sports “balls,” so you would really need a lot of practice to get used to its impact on your racket. It is also an Olympic sport. I love watching the matches with my other friends during Olympics season.

More than a way to maintain a good weight and stay active, badminton has become a way for me to destress after long days. It has also helped me find people who share the same love for the sport. I play singles matches or mixed doubles with my friends every weekend, and we always make it a point to bring in someone who is new to the sport.

At the end of the day, badminton is a vital part of my life that I hope to keep in the years to come. No matter how busy I get, I know that this passion of mine will sustain me through the darker days.

How To Explain Why Badminton Is My Favorite Game?

To explain why it is near and dear to your heart, you have to go beyond explaining the basics of the game, its history, and the most popular techniques. You have to get personal as you write your essay. Think about how far back your love for the game goes. What started it? Who inspired you? Was there a particular moment in your life when you decided that you finally couldn’t live without it? What kind of joy or thrill do you get out of it? Identify all the ways in which the sport has added value to your life and write convincingly, with the goal of encouraging the reader to give it a try. Your goal at the end of the day is to deepen appreciation of it, especially if they are not as well-versed in the game.

Why Is Badminton An Indoor Sport?

Many people are probably wondering why badminton isn’t an outdoor sport. If you’ve ever tried playing it outdoors, you will notice that there is an increased difficulty in getting the game going due to many weather factors. Most commonly, the wind changes the trajectory of the light shuttlecock, which affects its course no matter how well you hit or aim at it. Even a light wind or gentle breeze can completely affect the direction and pace of your shuttlecock. Many times they will end up getting caught in the air and dropping down completely mid-way.

I hit them with the ball. It was one of the first lessons that my father taught me to defend myself instead of relying on my elder brother in school.

How to Play Badminton Game?

Playing badminton is easy, and all you must require is a shuttlecock and two rackets. The shuttlecock acts like a ball and is made from a goose feather attached to a small piece of cork.

The rackets for playing are lightweight, around 90 to 100 grams. While playing, you must smash the light shuttlecock towards the opponent’s direction. In badminton, players require a lot of energy to make sure that the shuttlecock crosses the next towards the opposite direction.

These types of shuttle are still used nowadays. But the shuttles are made from synthetic materials allowed by BWF, which is a short name for Badminton World Federation. So, this essay is an insight into my favourite game, and the rules and regulations followed worldwide.

While playing, there are six major shorts, and these are the forehand drive, the backhand drive, the smash, the drop, the clearing, and the serve. Badminton is played over a rectangular court that has a division in the middle using a net.

Badminton can be played with a light racquet and requires only a few players. It is one of the best sports that require a certain level of fitness, and this essay will discuss what you need to know about it. We will also discuss how kids can write an essay on badminton for classes 1, 2, and 3 and the key points to cover. • Write a few lines on the benefits of playing badminton for both physical and mental health.
  • End the essay with a conclusion paragraph and summarise.

Badminton is a great sport that is excellent for all age groups, and kids get the most joy out of it and can play with their friends. Here are 10 lines on my favourite game, badminton, for an essay for classes 1 and 2.

  • Playing badminton increases natural immunity.

Writing a small paragraph is beneficial for kids as they feel comfortable writing small sentences. Given below a small paragraph on badminton for their reference:

Badminton is one of the most played games worldwide. I am very fond of this game and want to be an internationally acclaimed player. Therefore, I work very hard to learn the game. This game has benefited me in many ways- my stamina, speed, and concentration power have increased tremendously. Currently, the Badminton Association of India manages this sport in the country. Players can participate in either singles, doubles, or mixed groups. Did you know that a small cork was used to play badminton instead of a shuttlecock in the olden days? Nowadays, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) has approved using lightweight shuttlecocks.

Badminton is an indoor sport that can also be played outdoors by both kids and adults. Here are a few lines that make a good essay for classes 1, 2, and 3:

Badminton is a fantastic game to be played by many people professionally and just for fun worldwide. A racquet is used to hit a shuttlecock, and players must try to land it on the other side of the court. When the shuttlecock is missed by a player and lands on their side of the court, the other team scores a point. The best part about the game is that it is easy to play and the rules are simple. The game is a great stress-buster, burns calories, and helps keep a healthy weight. Players must wear lightweight shoes since they must be on their feet throughout the game and run across the court. Playing badminton makes an individual physically active, and their concentration power increases. Top players like PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, P Gopichand, Srikanth Kidambi, and P Kashyap have taken Indian Badminton to the global platform and inspired many kids to take up this sport seriously.

Playing badminton is fun because one can make new friends along the way. School children are often asked to write an essay for class 3 on their favourite game, badminton. Here is how to go about it:

I love playing a game like badminton as it keeps me well, uplifts my mood, and keeps my brain sharp. Running around the court all day long is a great way to have fun; my friends play it too. I enjoy playing badminton since I can play it outdoors and indoors.

My father has taught me the best techniques for playing badminton, and there are different ways to handle the racquet. Ensuring a comfortable grip on the handle is essential, so the hands don’t get tired easily, and we can play longer. Playing a sport like a badminton is good for the mind and body, and it’s a lot better than playing computer games since I’m active all day. There are different games like cricket, kabaddi, baseball, and table tennis famous in India, but badminton is the second most popular game.

Meeting My Idol

I started playing badminton when I was just a kid and it quickly became my favourite sport. I would spend hours on the court, practicing my shots and trying to perfect my technique. As I got better, I started competing in local tournaments and eventually made it to the state level. But my ultimate goal was always to meet my idol, Saina Nehwal.

One day, I got the chance to meet her in a unique way. I had been selected to participate in a training camp for up-and-coming badminton players. The camp was held in Hyderabad, Saina's hometown and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to learn from some of the best coaches in the country.

I arrived at the camp and was greeted by a sea of familiar faces, all of us united by our love for badminton. We spent the first few days training hard, working on our footwork, shots, and strategies. But the highlight of the camp was when Saina Nehwal walked into the training hall.

I couldn't believe my eyes, my idol was standing right in front of me. She greeted us with a warm smile and began to demonstrate her techniques and strategies. I was in awe as she effortlessly executed her shots and moved around the court with grace and precision.

Saina took the time to answer all our questions and offer feedback on our own performances. She even shared her own experiences and gave us advice on how to improve our game. It was an unforgettable experience for me, not only because I got to meet my idol but also because she was so down to earth and approachable.

I left the camp feeling motivated and inspired. I had not only learned new techniques and strategies, but I had also gained a new perspective on the game. It was a unique opportunity to learn from one of the best badminton players in the world and I felt grateful for the experience.

Ever since that camp, I've been working even harder to improve my game and make my dream of playing at the national level a reality. I know that it's not going to be easy, but I'm determined to make it happen. And I'll always remember the training camp where I got to meet my idol Saina Nehwal in a unique way and it gave me a new perspective on the game.

Know all the basic badminton rules and regulations, how to play the game, court lines, how to score points and more!

Badminton rules

Badminton is one of the most popular sports in the world, with a passionate fan following around the globe.

It is also one of the biggest draws at multi-sport spectacles like the Olympics.

A regular fixture since the Barcelona 1992 Olympics, badminton now has five disciplines at the Games after mixed doubles was introduced at Atlanta 1996.

China has since emerged as the sport's dominant force with a total of 20 golds, 12 silvers and 15 bronze medals at the Olympics. Indonesia are second with eight golds, six silvers and seven bronze medals.

While badminton is most popular in Asia, it also attracts great interest in Europe with players from Denmark among those regularly challenging for top honours.

Badminton rules

As outlined by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), here is a simplified rundown of the rules of badminton .

Badminton can be played either as singles or doubles. In singles, there are two players competing against each other. In doubles, two pairs of players form teams and compete against each other, resulting in a game of four players.

Badminton scoring system

All singles and doubles matches are the best-of-three games. The first side to 21 points wins a game.

A point is scored on every serve and awarded to whichever side wins the rally. The winning side gets the next serve.

If the score is 20-20, a side must win by two clear points to win the game. If it reaches 29-29, the first to get their 30th point wins.

Change of ends in badminton

In badminton, players are required to change ends under specific conditions. They should change ends at the conclusion of the first game. If a third game is required, they should also change ends at the end of the second game. In the third game, the change of ends occurs when one side reaches a score of 11 points.

Winning a point in badminton

A point is won if the birdie (shuttlecock) hits the ground in the opponent’s half of the court, including the lines.

A point can therefore be conceded if a shot goes outside the court boundaries, if the birdie hits the net or passes through/under it, or if a player strikes the birdie twice with their racket.

Players must wait for the birdie to cross the net before playing a shot, and while you can follow through over it, touching the net with your body or racket results in a point being conceded.

How to serve in badminton

The birdie must be hit below waist height, with players serving diagonally into their opponent’s service box. Both players must remain stationary until the serve is made.

As per badminton singles rules, the server starts from the right service court, and will serve from that side every time they have an even amount of points. A player serves from the left every time they have an odd amount of points.

Each player will retain serve for as long as they keep winning points.

In badminton doubles, the server will start on the right-hand side and keep serving, while alternating sides with their team-mate, so long as they keep winning points.

If the receiving side takes the point, they assume serve. Going forward, the player who did not initially serve for each team will only assume the service once their side has won a point as the receiving side.

What is a badminton court’s dimensions?

In singles, a badminton court is 13.41m (44ft) long and 5.18m (17ft) wide. The width extends to 6.1m (20ft) in doubles.

The net is 1.55m (5ft 1in) high at the ends and 1.52m high (5ft) where it dips in the middle.

A serve must pass the short service line, which is 1.98m (6.5ft) from the net.

Beyond the short service line, there is a line which runs down the middle to split the left and right service courts. There is also a doubles service line 0.76m (2.5ft) in from the baseline.

That means each service court (four in total) is 3.96m (13ft) long and 2.59m (8.5ft) wide.

The badminton birdie (shuttlecock)

The birdie , also referred to as the shuttlecock , is badminton’s unique ‘ball’.

The cone-shaped projectile is formed using feathers or a synthetic material which are attached to a cork or rubber base.

The birdie’s shape means it will always fly cork-first once struck, and remain so until hit again.

Made up of 16 feathers, the birdie is between 62-70mm long and weigh between 4.74 and 5.5g. The tip of the feathers should create a circle with a diameter from 58-62mm, with the cork/rubber base 25-28mm in diameter and rounded at the bottom.

From 74th Place to Spelling Champion: One Boy’s Journey to Win the Scripps Bee

Bruhat Soma spelled a stunning 29 words correctly in a 90-second spell-off to claim victory in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

When Bruhat Soma lifted the ceramic Scripps National Spelling Bee trophy in a blizzard of confetti as cheers erupted from the audience late Thursday night, he was shocked but he also knew that, finally, he had achieved his goal. He was the champion.

“I’m really happy that I won,” Bruhat said during a phone interview on Friday morning. “It’s like a dream come true.”

The 12-year-old from Tampa, Fla., won in a spell-off round — just the second one to be held in the history of the competition. Bruhat rattled off a head-spinning 29 correctly spelled words in 90 seconds, including heautophany, nachschläge and puszta.

Bruhat’s spell-off sprint on Thursday night won him the competition’s trophy, the Scripps Cup, and a grand prize of $50,000. He far surpassed his competitor, Faizan Zaki, a sixth grader from Dallas who correctly spelled 20 words, and also the bee’s previous spell-off record of 22 correct words in 2022, according to Bee officials.

The spell-off came easily to Bruhat, who said he had prepared for this exact moment for six months. His father, Srinivas Soma, would prepare a daily list of 30 words for him to practice spelling out in 90 seconds, leaving him “kind of nervous, but I knew I had prepared” once the big moment arrived.

In addition to studying with his father, Bruhat said he used SpellPundit, a popular tool among top spellers, and the dictionary to get ready for Scripps. He also worked with a spelling coach and practiced his vocabulary by making his own list of words to study, focusing on his trouble spots.

“I’ve worked really hard,” he said.

The 12-year-old said that while some people studied with music, in the company of others or while snacking, he said he preferred to do it alone in a quiet environment.

“Quality of studying is also important,” he said, noting that if someone studied for a lengthy time but didn’t have the focus required to learn the words, “there’s really no point.”

Bruhat was eliminated last year in the first round of the quarterfinals, tying for 74th place. “I was pretty disappointed by my performance, and I knew I had to work harder,” he said in a recorded interview that aired during the show.

But his failure to make the finals last year drove him to study even more for this year’s competition, Bruhat said on Friday morning.

“Instead of going down, I decided to be really motivated by that,” he said, adding, “so don’t be discouraged by failure.”

Bruhat went into Thursday’s competition with a goal in mind and the confidence that he knew what he was doing, because he had worked for it.

“I feel like working for it is the hardest part,” he said. “But I was able to do it because I really wanted that trophy, and now I finally have it.”

The 12-year-old also competed in 2022, when he tied for 163rd place.

Bruhat’s first word of the night was habitude, which means one’s “usual disposition or mode of behavior or procedure.” He steadily conquered words like Okvik, an Alaskan geographical name, and hoofddorp, a Dutch word, as the competition progressed in intensity and difficulty. He remained poised onstage, rarely seeming nervous and often thinking through the words by mock-typing out the letters in the air.

After his win, Bruhat was joined onstage by his parents and two siblings, who expressed pride and elation at his achievement.

In a recorded interview aired during the show, Bruhat — who is tall for his age — said that he also enjoys basketball. His favorite player is LeBron James, according to his bio on the Scripps National Spelling Bee website. He also enjoys reading, Ping-Pong and badminton, and he plays the snare drum in his middle school band.

While competing, his forehead was marked with a vermilion tika, a Hindu symbol of power and purity. His parents said that Bruhat memorized about 80 percent of the sacred Hindu text, the Bhagavad Gita.

Now that he’s won, Bruhat is unable to compete again for the Scripps Cup, which means he gets to relax this summer, play some basketball and maybe go on vacation.

“I guess I’m done,” he said.

But the future looks bright for the newest champion speller. He said he hoped to be a doctor some day, but he’s not quite sure what kind.

“Probably in high school, I’m going to look at all the options and choose,” he said. For now, though, summer awaits.
