When should I seek treatment for a hip condition?

If rest and over-the-counter medications aren’t enough to relieve persistent hip pain, you should schedule a diagnostic evaluation at Southern Oregon Orthopedics.

The physicians also recommend getting an evaluation for hip pain that worsens even with treatment or if you lose mobility in your hip.

Hip replacement surgery

This ball-in-socket joint is the largest in your body and is made up of bones, cartilage, ligaments, and tendons that work together to give you mobility.

If you damage any of these structures in your hip or you have a condition like arthritis, it can lead to chronic pain and inflammation that limits what you can do physically. When conservative treatment can’t relieve your pain or improve your hip’s mobility, you might need hip replacement surgery.

This type of surgery can also address osteonecrosis, a condition that can develop when a hip fracture or dislocation limits the blood supply to your hip joint and causes the joint to collapse.
