కొంత‌కాలంగా మాస్ క‌థ‌ల‌తో ప్రయాణం చేస్తున్నారు యువ క‌థానాయ‌కుడు రామ్ పోతినేని(Ram Pothineni). మాస్ ఇమేజ్ ఉన్న క‌థానాయ‌కులంద‌రి కెరీర్‌లోనూ కీల‌క‌మైన పోలీస్ స్టోరీలు క‌నిపిస్తుంటాయి. రామ్ కూడా త‌న ఇమేజ్ దృష్ట్యా పోలీస్ క‌థ‌ని ఎంచుకుని ‘ది వారియ‌ర్‌’ ( The Warriorr ) చేశారు. ఇదే చిత్రంతో త‌మిళంలోకీ ఎంట్రీ ఇచ్చారు. రెండు భాషల‌పైనా మాస్ ద‌ర్శకుడిగా త‌న‌దైన ముద్రవేసిన లింగుస్వామి ఈ చిత్రాన్ని తెర‌కెక్కించ‌డం, రామ్ తొలిసారి ఖాకీ పాత్రలో న‌టించ‌డంతో సినిమాపై అంచనాలు పెరిగాయి. ( The Warriorr Review) మ‌రి ఆ అంచ‌నాల‌కి త‌గ్గట్టుగా సినిమా ఉందో లేదో తెలుసుకునే ముందు క‌థేమిటో చూద్దాం.

క‌థేంటంటే: స‌త్య (రామ్ పోతినేని)(RAM) ఐపీఎస్ అధికారి. త‌న కోరిక మేర‌కే క‌ర్నూలుకి డీఎస్పీగా వ‌స్తాడు. విధుల్లో చేర‌గానే ఊరికి ప‌ట్టిన రోగాన్ని న‌యం చేయ‌డంపై దృష్టిపెడ‌తాడు. ఆ రోగం పేరు స్థానిక గ్యాంగ్‌స్టర్ గురు (ఆది పినిశెట్టి) (Aadhi). మ‌రి ఖాకీ దుస్తుల్లో ఉన్న స‌త్య.. గురు ట్రీట్‌మెంట్ కోసం ఎలాంటి ఆపరేష‌న్ చేప‌ట్టాడు. ఆ క్రమంలో ఎలాంటి స‌వాళ్లు ఎదుర‌య్యాయి? స‌త్య త‌న బాధ్యత‌లను క‌ర్నూల్లోనే ఎందుకు చేప‌ట్టాల్సి వ‌చ్చింది. అక్కడ విజిల్ మ‌హాలక్ష్మి (కృతిశెట్టి)గా (Krithi shetty) ఫేమ‌స్ అయిన అమ్మాయితో స‌త్యకి సంబంధ‌మేమిటి? త‌దిత‌ర విష‌యాలు తెలియాలంటే సినిమా చూడాల్సిందే(The Warriorr Review).

ఎలా ఉందంటే: ‘ఒక రౌడీ, రాజ‌కీయ నాయ‌కుడు కావ‌డం మామూలే కానీ, ఒక ఐపీఎస్ ఇలా వైద్యం చేయడం కొత్తగా ఉంది’ అని ఆది పినిశెట్టి (Aadhi) ఓ డైలాగ్ చెబుతాడు. బ‌హుశా క‌థానాయ‌కుడు రామ్‌కి(RAM) కూడా ఈ క‌థ‌లోని ఆ అంశ‌మే కొత్తగా అనిపించిందేమో. వాస్తవంగా కూడా మిగ‌తా పోలీస్ క‌థ‌ల‌కీ, దీనికీ తేడా అదొక్కటే. హీరోకీ విల‌న్‌కీ మ‌ధ్య సాగే వార్ అంతా సేమ్ టు సేమ్‌. ( The Warriorr Review) ట్రైల‌ర్‌లో చూపించిన దానికీ, ప్రథ‌మార్ధంలో క‌థానాయ‌కుడి పాత్రకీ వ్యత్యాసం ఉంటుంది. స‌ర‌దా స‌న్నివేశాల‌తో క‌థ‌ని మొద‌లుపెట్టిన ద‌ర్శకుడు (Lingusamy).. అటెన్షన్ ప్లీజ్ అంటూ మెల్లగా గురు దురాగతాల‌తో క‌థ‌లోకి తీసుకువెళ్తాడు. స‌త్య‌, గురు, విజిల్ మ‌హాల‌క్ష్మి.. ఇలా పాత్రల‌న్నింటినీ ప‌రిచ‌యం చేస్తూ క‌థ‌లోకి వెళ‌తారు. ఒక‌వైపు నాయ‌కానాయిక‌ల మ‌ధ్య ప్రేమ‌క‌థ, మ‌రోవైపు గురు గ్యాంగ్  చేసే హంగామాతో ప్రథ‌మార్ధం మాస్ ప్రేక్షకుల్ని ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది.

గురు అకృత్యాల‌పై క‌థానాయ‌కుడు క‌న్నెర్ర చేయ‌డం నుంచి అస‌లు క‌థ మొద‌ల‌వుతుంది. విరామానికి ముందు వ‌చ్చే మ‌లుపు సినిమాకి కీల‌కం. ఐపీఎస్‌గా స‌త్య ఎంట్రీ ఇచ్చాక ఫేస్ టు ఫేస్ వార్ షురూ అవుతుంది. ఇక్కడి నుంచే ద‌ర్శకుడు త‌నదైన ప్రభావం చూపించాల్సింది. హీరో, విల‌న్‌ మ‌ధ్య సాగే వైరంతో పోలీసు క‌థ‌లు దాదాపుగా ఒకేలా ఉంటాయి. వారి మ‌ధ్య బ‌ల‌మైన సంఘ‌ట‌న‌లు, ఎత్తుకు పైఎత్తుల‌తో డ్రామాని జోడించి ఆస‌క్తిని రేకెత్తించిన‌ప్పుడే పోలీస్ క‌థ‌లు ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటాయి. కానీ, ఈ సినిమాలో ఆ త‌ర‌హా స‌న్నివేశాల్లోనే బ‌లం కొర‌వ‌డింది. మ‌హాల‌క్ష్మిని కిడ్నాప్ చేసి హీరోకి ఝ‌ల‌క్ ఇవ్వడం బాగుంది కానీ, సైలెన్స్ ఈజ్ మోస్ట్ వైయొలెన్స్ అంటూ ఆ స‌న్నివేశాల్లో ఏమీ చేయ‌కుండా నిలుచుంటాడు క‌థానాయ‌కుడు. అది ప్రేక్షకుల‌కు అంత‌గా కిక్ ఇవ్వదు. అలాంటి స‌న్నివేశాలు ఒక‌ట్రెండు ప్లాన్ చేసినప్పటికీ అవి పెద్దగా ప్రభావం చూపించ‌వు. చివ‌ర్లో కొండారెడ్డి బురుజు వద్ద హీరో విల‌న్ త‌ల‌ప‌డటంతో క‌థ ముగుస్తుంది. ఊహ‌కు త‌గ్గట్టుగా సాగే క‌థే ఈ సినిమాకి మైన‌స్‌.  ప్రేమ‌క‌థ‌, పాట‌లు, ఫైట్లతో కావ‌ల్సిన‌న్ని క‌మ‌ర్షియ‌ల్ అంశాలతో మాస్‌ని అల‌రించే ప్రయ‌త్నం చేశారు.

ఎవ‌రెలా చేశారంటే: ఐపీఎస్ స‌త్య పాత్రలోనూ, ప్రథ‌మార్ధంలోనూ రామ్ మంచి అభిన‌యం ప్రద‌ర్శించారు. ఆయ‌న పాత్రని డిజైన్ చేసిన తీరు బాగుంది. రెండు కోణాల్లో సాగే ఆ పాత్రలో ఆయ‌న ఒదిగిపోయిన తీరు న‌టుడిగా ప‌రిణ‌తికి అద్దం ప‌డుతోంది. డ్యాన్స్‌లు, ఫైట్లతోనూ ఆక‌ట్టుకున్నాడు. ఆది పినిశెట్టి చేసిన గురు పాత్ర సినిమాకి ప్రధాన‌బ‌లం. రాయ‌ల‌సీమ యాస మాట్లాడుతూ అందులో ఒదిగిపోయాడు. ఆది త‌గిన ఎంపిక అని రుజువు చేశారు. విజిల్ మ‌హాలక్ష్మిగా కృతి అందంగా క‌నిపించింది. ఆరంభ స‌న్నివేశాల్లో ఆమె వినోదం పంచింది. ఎక్కువ భాగం స‌న్నివేశాలు గురు, స‌త్య వైరం నేప‌థ్యంలోనే సాగుతాయి. దాంతో మిగిలిన పాత్రల‌కి పెద్దగా ప్రాధాన్యం ద‌క్కలేదు. న‌దియా పాత్ర ప‌రిధి మేర‌కు న‌టించారు. సాంకేతికంగా సినిమా ఉన్నతంగా ఉంది. దేవిశ్రీ ప్రసాద్ స్వర‌ప‌రిచిన మూడు పాట‌లు బాగున్నాయి. నేప‌థ్య సంగీతం మాత్రం మాస్‌ సినిమాకు తగినట్లు లేదు. కెమెరా విభాగం ప‌నితీరు మెప్పిస్తుంది. నిర్మాణం ఉన్నతంగా ఉంది. ద‌ర్శకుడు లింగుస్వామి రాసుకున్న క‌థ‌లో కొత్తద‌నం కొరవ‌డింది. ప‌లువురు ఐపీఎస్ అధికారుల స్ఫూర్తితోనే ఈ క‌థ రాసిన‌ప్పటికీ, త‌న మార్క్ డ్రామా క‌నిపించ‌లేదు. పాత్రల్ని డిజైన్ చేసిన విధానం, కొన్ని మ‌లుపుల‌పైనా ఆయ‌న ప్రభావం క‌నిపిస్తుందంతే.

The Warriorr First Review: Ram Pothineni-N Lingusamy Dish Out A Full Energetic Mass Entertainer!

The first review of Ram Pothineni's latest film The Warriorr is out. The movie seems to be an entertaining mass action film with its shining moments.

Written and directed by N Lingusamy, the warriorr marks the Tamil debut of Tollywood's energetic star Ram Pothineni. The movie is slated for a grand worldwide release on July 14.

A few of the film buffs and Censor Board members who got to see the movie firsthand before anybody else shared their opinions on it through their respective social media handles. Going by their opinions, the movie is sure going to be a super hit.

The movie is billed as a heavy action drama with mass elements and Ram, easily shoulders it. The film's songs, dance sequences, action scenes, and performances by the cast are being applauded.

Ram Pothineni looks ravishing as a cop in uniform and his portrayal of DSP Satya is very impressive. He nailed the performance of the character. Fans of the actor are sure going to enjoy his performance in the film.

According to a few reviews on social media, the first half is quite entertaining with two songs, and the twist just before the interval bang is kind of a highlight for the movie. The popular Bullet song and whistle song are placed in the second-half narration. The second half is filled with visually entertaining mass elements. The face-off scenes between Ram's character and Aadhi's character are another highlight of the film, say the reviewers.

Ram and Lingusamy’s collaboration for a mass action drama has raised curiosity. While it marks Ram’s debut in Tamil, it also marks Lingusamy’s Telugu debut. This becomes a test for Ram and Lingusamy respectively. Will Ram & Lingusamy prove their mettle. Let’s find out whether they are successful in their mission or not.

What is it about?

Satya MBBS (Ram Pothineni) moves to Kurnool with his mother (Nadhiya) for his house surgeon where he meets RJ Whistle Mahalakshmi (Krithi Shetty). But honest doctor Satya is disturbed by the challenges from local rowdy Guru (Aadhi Pinisetty). He returns to Kurnool as Satya IPS and how he hunts down Guru forms the crux of the story.

Performances Ram is at ease as doctor Satya since he is seen as a soft, handsome and charming guy. When he transforms into DSP Satya he is not in full form. Krithi Shetty is okay as Whistle Mahalakshmi. She is good at songs and romance. Whereas her role is not ended properly and she goes missing in the conflict between the protagonist and the antagonist. Aadhi Pinisetty shines in the powerful role of Guru. He dominates with his performance. Nadhiya is alright as a determined and confident mother. But she is typecast for the role. Brahmaji’s plays dishonest police SI Devaraj which is also regular. Ajay’s character as villain’s side-kick is just filler and adds no value to the story. None of the other characters get noticed.

Technicalities Lingusamy picked up a story that is half-baked and fully predictable. While the characterisations of the lead were etched well, the director is clueless over weaving such a powerful story around them. He totally lost his grip on the film after revealing the crucial twist during the film’s interval. Devi Sri Prasad delivered good songs but he failed in giving thumping background music. But the songs placements do spoil the feel. Visuals are appealing, thanks to neat cinematography. The film’s pace struggles.

Slow & Predictable Screenplay Half-Baked Story & Dialogues Routine Climax

Lingusamy is a talented director who has delivered films like Anandam, Awara, Pandem Kodi and Run. But he had also delivered Pandem Kodi 2, Suriya’s Sikindar (Anjaan) that failed to impress. His latest offering The Warriorr, featuring Ram Pothineni, belongs to the latter. This is yet another disappointment from the seasoned filmmaker. The Warriorr takes off on a regular note where the hero is introduced followed by a song and then the hero shifts from Hyderabad to Kurnool where he meets his love interest (Krithi Shetty). There are some cute moments of romance initially. But they are not enough to take the story forward. The actual story begins when the face-off happens between Satya and Guru. The film’s first half is mostly managed by its treatment and the twist is saved for the interval.

Once the twist is unrevealed, the film turns even predictable. The DSP Satya’s mission is to take revenge on Guru and bring his empire down. After the interval, the film takes a nosedive. The director failed to sustain the interest in the conflict between the hero and villain. It is just a one-upmanship game that doesn’t interest the viewers. The scenes like the kidnapping of heroine and hero-villain track expected to work, but they don’t. The songs in the second half only obstruct the flow of the narration. However, songs may work for masses where Ram and Krithi danced well against nice sets. But the patience of critical audiences are tested here. The film is filled with scenes that are already seen in several old mass films.

The investigation of Dean Robert’s murder is also disappointing even after DSP Satya possessing a video proof. And the climax is even underwhelming where the hero lets go of such a baddie, guess why? Because he is a doctor at heart. The film also pays tribute to several doctor-police personnel in real-life. It is evident that a seasoned director suffers with second-half syndrome and the film failed at the script development stage itself. Despite good performances and nice songs, they can’t save the film owing to routine story and flat narration. Overall, The Warriorr is a case of ‘operation failed and patient dead’.

Bottom-line: War On Audience!

Story Review

Satya (Ram Pothineni) goes to Kurnool to join as a House Surgeon in the Kurnool government hospital. As Satya endears himself to all as a doctor with a generous heart, stunning developments take place in his life. To find out those stunning developments and how his relationship with his mother Rajyalakshmi (Nadiya) and how his love life with Whistle Mahalakshmi (Kriti Shetty) progressed and what it has got to do with the hard core criminal and aspiring politician Guru (Aadi Pinisetty), what is the secret behind DSP Satya, enjoy The Warriorr on the screen.

Artists, Technicians Review

Ram slipped into the role tailor-made for him. As he has done lover boy roles and mass roles in his career, doing the role with dual shades turned out to be a cakewalk. While as a doctor he looked soft and handsome and his chemistry with Kriti Shetty appealed to all. Then as a tough police officer, he looked mass and rugged and took on Aadi Pinisetty. His body language, expressions, and emotions are good in both roles. He showed variations in these things as a doctor and as a police officer.

Kriti Shetty looked cute and oozed with glamor in songs. She got a good screen presence and made the best use of it. She emoted well in a few of the scenes. The songs are well choreographed between both of them and it is a treat to watch both of them on screen. Nadiya performed well as a caring mother and at the same time showed her toughness when confronted by Aadi. Aadi Pinisetty looked menacing on screen. His looks and hairstyle are perfect and his mannerisms are good. However at times, one gets an impression that he imitated Allu Arjun's mannerisms and dialogue delivery in Pushpa. Brahmaji performed well as a cop showing dual shades. Akshara Gowda, Bharati Raja, Jayaprakash, Ajay, and others performed according to their roles.

Lingusamy is known for his mass action entertainers. When Ram teamed with Lingusamy, many expected breathtaking action sequences. Lingusamy tried to elevate Ram's mass image with intense action blocks. He started off the narration in a slow and normal manner and as the story progressed elevated Ram's heroism vis a vis Aadi Pinisetty. The narration went on a predictable note and as in Lingusamy's earlier films, the story lacks logic. He blended the first half with family elements, a few romantic scenes, and sentiment sequences in the Hospital to show Ram as a person who cares about everyone. Ram and Kriti Shetty's romance is shown in a realistic and appealing manner and with the entry of Aadi Pinisetty, the narration picks up pace. The entire first half talks about Ram as a caring doctor trying to bring justice to the people taking on the mighty and powerful Aadi Pinisetty. The Interval block introduces Ram as the DSP and this sets the stage for the clash between Ram and Aadi in the second half.

The second half is loaded with mass action elements between Ram and Aadi and though the intensity is there when movie lovers expected Lingusamy to take it to the next level, it comes down crashing. Few of the action blocks are shot in an interesting manner but the second half turned a bit predictable and routine and finally, the story comes to an end. Scenes involving Ram and Naditya elevated the mother-son bonding, Ram and Kriti Shetty, a beautiful romance, and Ram and Aadi, a clash of personalities. For all the highs, Lingusamy failed to power Warriorr to the next level with a weak story, screenplay, and direction.

Devi Sri Prasad's songs are foot tapping and Whistle and Bulletu songs stand out. His background music at times elevated the proceedings but at times failed to do so. Sujith Vasudevan's cinematography is good and could have been better. Naveen Nooli could have used his editing scissors more to do away with the routine elements both in the first and the second half. Production values are fine.

Ram and Lingusamy's The Warriorr increased expectations with interesting promotions. The foot-tapping songs increased the hype and fans got excited about Ram's Kollywood debut. Lingusamy true to his forte elevated Ram's mass image to another level showing him as a caring doctor and then as a ruthless police officer. Though Ram's heroism is elevated with a few intense action sequences, foot tapping mass beats, the story turned out to be extremely routine and Lingusamy failed to power it to another level with his screenplay and direction. Considering all these aspects, CJ goes with a 2.75 for The Warriorr.

Star hero, Ram is doing’s back to back mass films and for the first time, he has turned into a cop with his new release ‘The Warriorr’ which has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Satya(Ram) is a duty-minded doctor who gets posted in the city of Kurnool which is under the rule of a dreaded gangster Guru(Aadhi Pinisetty). He tries to revolt against Guru but fails badly. Left with no choice, Satya changes track and turns into a cop. How did a doctor become a cop? What did he do in his new avatar? That forms the rest of the story?

Plus Points:

The basic transformation of Ram from a doctor to a cop has been showcased quite well. Generally, in any cop film, the logic goes for a toss. But here in The Warriorr, director Linguswamy has made sure that the film does not have over-the-top elements as the scenes flow in a proper manner.

Aadhi Pinisetty is one of the major pillars of the film and he as Guru has killed it with his performance. Be it his look or dialogue delivery, Aadhi is top-notch and dominates Ram in the first half. Nadia as Ram’s mother is decent in her role.

The climax fight between Ram and Aadhi has been executed well. Krithi Shetty looks pretty and sizzles in the songs. Brahmaji is also neat in his role and makes some sense in the end. The BGM composed for Aadhi is quite good.

Last but not the least, Ram is quite good in the film. He plays both a doctor and a cop and showcases the difference in his characters quite well. He is subdued in the first half but makes up for it in the latter part with his dances and aggressive performance. The cop role suits him quite well.

Minus Points:

When you take up a cop story, there is nothing much new to showcase content-wise. So, one needs to narrate the film in a gripping manner. Though the first half is written well by Linguswamy, the second half has the same good versus bad storyline.

Lingusamy is known to make action films in a particular style and has done the same with this film. Though the narration is decent, it does not arrest you much with its screenplay. More hero villain elevations should have been added from the first half itself.

Technical Aspects:

Music by DSP is pretty good and the songs have been choreographed quite well. More than the songs, DSP’s BGM is pretty impressive. The production values are pretty good as the camera work nicely captures the Rayalaseema setup.

Coming to the director Linguswamy, he has done a passable job with the film. Though he does not show anything new, he gives the masses what they expect from a cop drama. Credit should go to him for not adding over-the-top and logic-less scenes. He just narrated the film in a routine template without going overboard.

On the whole, The Warriorr is a masala cop drama that has some impressive mass blocks. Ram and Aadhi Pinisetty hold the screen with their impressive act but the story is a bit routine and quite predictable. If you are okay with this aspect and like to attempt a mass film, The Warrior can be happily given a shot at a single screen.

Rest of the story deals with the Satya, Guru’s actions to counter each other

Expectations are moderate to above the average on this film due to HIT audio. First one hour of the movie is fast-paced despite being a regular story. The director Linguswamy shows his strength dealing with mass elements mainly highlighting the villainy. Mass scenes offer some freshness from shot making perspective, but the honeymoon period is short lived. When the doctor becomes IPS, the movie goes redundant loops instead of racing up. Writing team had good opportunity to elevate the movie further as the foundation in first half was setup for the Satya Vs Guru war in second half. However, the film turns predictable and unappealing confrontation scenes spoil second half

Ram as a doctor looked innocent, and equally good as IPS officer.KrithiSetty as RJ Mahalakshmi looks wise is just okay. Color Color song is a routine hero introduction song. Audio hit songs “ Bullet Song “ and “whistle song” come in second half , both sets follow same color scheme anddances are good. AadhiPinisetty role is menacing as mafia don Guru. Devisri Prasad background score is not up to the mark. However, the songs are good.

The Warriorr movie review: Try not to fall asleep in this Ram Pothineni film

The warriorr movie review: lingusamy has repeated the same movie that he has been making throughout his career with different actors and costumes, including the 'loosu ponnu' archetype..

What is the worst thing that could happen when lights dim and you settle down in a theatre to watch a film? When you can predict a film — from start to finish — within the first few minutes as the movie begins. And that, dear members of the audience, is what makes director N Lingusamy’s latest film The Warriorr one of the worst movies of this year.

The story of The Warriorr goes something like this — there is a bad man in Kurnool and he’s doing a lot of bad things. Then a good man arrives, who does good. Now, the good man tries to stop the bad things being done by the bad man and a clash ensues. An attempt is made by the bad guy on the life of the good man, who tries to protect himself and others. Eventually, they fight in front of the Konda Reddy Fort. The End.

To break the monotony of this good vs evil fight, Lingusamy peppers the movie with frequent dance numbers and over-the-top, refurbished dialogues of every ‘mass’ movie that’s ever been made. There is very little originality in this film that is worthy of being discussed or even dissed. It’s almost shocking how a filmmaker with over 20 years under his belt, continued to make movies that offer nothing even remotely entertaining. The Warrior is an example of the director’s creative bankruptcy and incompetence to reinvent his storytelling skills to suit contemporary times.

Lingusamy has repeated the same movie that he has been doing throughout his career with different actors and costumes, including the ‘loosu ponnu’ archetype. Whistle Mahalakshmi, played by Krithi Shetty, is just called in for service only during the dance numbers. And her character’s relevance to the narration is almost non-existent. Ram Pothineni as Sathya just tries to look cute in a doctor’s white robe and cop uniform. There is no room for him to do any acting. Aadhi Pinisetty as Guru has the only job of looking macho and menacing. The film asks very little of his talent.

ఇతనికి వరాలు (ఆషికా) అంటే చిన్నప్పటి నుంచీ ఇష్టం. ఆమె వరదరాజు (రావు రమేష్) అనే ధనవంతుడి కూతురు.

కిష్టయ్యకి పెద్దయ్య (నాజర్) అంటే గౌరవం, విశ్వాసం. అనాధైన తనకి పెద్దయ్యే పెద్దదిక్కుగా ఉంటాడు.

తండ్రి ఇష్టానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా వరాలు కిష్టయ్యని పెళ్లిచేసుకోవాలనుకుంటుంది. అనుకోని సంఘటనలో వరదరాజు చనిపోతాడు. తండ్రి చావుకి కారణం తన ప్రేమే అని నమ్మి కిష్టయ్యని దూరం పెడుతుంది వరాలు.

మొత్తానికి పెద్దయ్య మూడో కొడుకు దాసు (షబ్బీర్) తొమ్మిదేళ్ల తర్వాత ఆ ఊరికొచ్చి వరాలు మీద కన్నేస్తాడు. అక్కడి నుంచి ఏమౌతుందనేది కథ. 

ఒక భాషలో ఫలానా చిత్రం అద్భుతంగా ఉందని దానిని మరొక భాషలోకి తెచ్చినప్పుడు ఆ అద్భుతం రిపీటవ్వడం చాలా అరుదు. ఎక్కడో "దృశ్యం" లాంటి సినిమా తప్ప యథాతథంగా తీస్తే ఆడవు. అందుకే కమర్షియల్ కారణాల కోసం మార్పులు చేస్తుంటారు. అయితే ఏది మార్చాలి, ఎంతవరకూ ఒరిజినల్లోని పార్ట్ ని యథాతథంగా తీయాలి అనే నిర్ణయం దర్శకుడు తీసుకోవడంలోనే రీమేక్ చిత్రాల గెలుపోటములుంటాయి. 

మళయాళ మాతృకని కొద్దిగా మార్చి సంక్రాంతి బ్యాక్ డ్రాప్ పెట్టి, హీరో బిల్డప్పులు తగిలించి, క్లైమాక్స్ మార్చి తెలుగు కమర్షియల్ కిచిడీగా వండిన చిత్రమిది. 

అల్లరినరేష్, రాజ్ తరుణ్ లాంటి మంచి టైమింగున్న నటుల్ని పెట్టుకున్నప్పుడు వాళ్లతో బోలెడంత హ్యూమర్ పండించొచ్చు. కానీ ఆ దిశగా మార్పులేవీ చేయకుండా ఒరిజినల్లో ఉన్న ట్రాకునే నడిపారు. పాటలు, రొమాన్స్ కలగలిపి వినోదాత్మకంగా మలిచే ప్రయత్నం చేసినప్పటికీ ఆశించిన ఫలితం రాలేదు. 

సినిమా మొదలై ముప్పావుగంటైనా అసలు కాన్-ఫ్లిక్ట్ పాయింటేంటో తేలదు. తెర మీద అలా సన్నివేశాలు కదులుతూ ఉంటాయి. డైలాగులు వీక్ గా ఉండడం వల్ల ఎక్కడా ఎంగేజవ్వడానికి చాన్స్ లేకుండా పోయింది. ప్రతి సీన్ కి ఒక లక్ష్యం, ఆడియన్స్ కి ఆసక్తి పెంచేలా చేసే కథనం ఇందులో లేవు. ఏ సన్నివేశమూ పాకాన పడకుండానే వేరే సీన్లోకి వెళ్లిపోతుంటుంది. 

ఉన్న సీన్లు, డైలాగులు అన్నీ పాత చింతకాయలాగానే ఉన్నాయి. సినిమా 1963, 1988 బ్యాక్డ్రాప్ అయినంత మాత్రాన ఔట్ డేటెడ్ సంభాషణలు రాసుకోమని కాదు కదా! 

సాంకేతికంగా ఈ సినిమాకి కెమెరా వర్క్ ఒక్కటీ బాగుందనిపిస్తుంది. కీరవాణి బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ ఓకే. పాటల్లో "ఎత్తుకెళ్లిపోవాలనిపిస్తుందే..." హాంటింగ్ గా బాగుంది. 

నాగార్జున ఫిజిక్ పరంగా తన అసలు వయసుకి 25 ఏళ్లు యంగ్ గా కనిపించాడు. మిగిలిన యాక్టింగంతా తన స్టైల్లోనే సాగింది. 

ఆల్లరి నరేష్ పాత్రలో డెప్త్ ఉంది. రాజ్ తరుణ్ మాత్రం అసలెందుకున్నాడో అర్థం కాదు. అసలా పాత్ర పర్పస్ కూడా బలంగా లేదు. 

ఆషికా రంగనాథ్ చూడడానికి బాగుంది. ఆమెకి తగినంత స్క్రీన్ స్పేస్ ఉంది కానీ రుక్షర్ కి అసలు లేదు. మిర్ణా మీనన్ కి ఒకటి రెండు సన్నివేశాల్లో కాస్త నటించే అవకాశం దక్కింది. 

రావురమేష్ ఓకే. నాజర్ పాత్ర చివర్లో కన్సిస్టెన్సీ తప్పినట్టయ్యి, సడన్ గా గిల్ట్ ఫీలైన ఎక్స్ప్రెషన్ తో ముగుస్తుంది. 

ఈ చిత్రంలో ప్రధానమైన సమస్యలు- ఎమోషన్ పండకపోవడం, రాసుకున్న డైలాగులు ఒక్కటీ పేలకపోవడం, కాలం చెల్లిన కథనం, దర్శకుడు వినోదాత్మకంగానే తీసాననుకున్నా ఆ వినోదాన్ని ఆడియన్స్ ఫీలవ్వకపోవడం. వీటికి తోడు అవసరం లేని హై డోస్ ఫైట్లు, నరుక్కోవడాలు టార్గెట్ ఆడియన్స్ కి శిరోభారమౌతాయి. 

ప్రధమార్ధం ఉన్నంతలో కాస్త సరదాగానే సాగినా, ద్వితీయార్ధానికి వచ్చే సరికి మరీ హెవీ అయిపోయింది. 

చిత్రం నిడివి 2 గంటల 26 నిమిషాలే అయినా మూడు గంటల భారాన్ని మోసిన అనుభూతి కలుగుతుంది. మళయాళ మాతృకలో 1960 ల-1980 ల నేపథ్యముందని తెలుగులో కూడా ఆ టైం లైన్ లో తీసారు తప్ప అసలీ పీరియడ్ బ్యాక్ డ్రాపుకి పర్పస్ ఏంటో కూడా తెలీదు. పైగా ఆ కాలం నాటి కథ అని గుర్తు చేయడానికి పాత నాగేశ్వరరావు పాటలు పదే పదే వినిపించడం కూడా ఓవర్ డోస్ అయ్యింది. కథలో ఎమోషన్ ఉండాలి కానీ ఏ పీరియడ్ బ్యాక్ డ్రాప్ అయితే ఏముంటుంది తేడా?

తెరపై యాంబియన్స్ బాగానే ఉన్నా ఆడియన్స్ కి కథనంలో ఫ్రాగ్రన్స్ అందదు. పండగకి పూర్తి స్థాయి వినోదాత్మక చిత్రం చూద్దామనుకునే ఫ్యామిలీ ప్రేక్షకులకి ఇది పైసావసూల్ అనిపించదు.

After the tremendous success of "Bimbisara," Nandamuri Kalyan Ram's films have gained popularity. "Devil" initially grabbed the attention of cinema lovers for this reason, and its trailer was also intriguing due to its grand look.

Has the film lived up to its promise?

Story: In 1945, Devil (played by Kalyan Ram), a British spy agent, is assigned to investigate the murder of a Zamindar's daughter in Rasapadu. 

British General Kenneth instructs Devil to uncover the identity of Trivarna and the method by which messages are being transmitted to INA chief Netaji Subash Chandra Bose from the Jamindar’s house.

Nyshada (played by Samyuktha), the niece of the Jamindar’s wife, is suspected of engaging in covert activities for the INA. Under the pretext of a murder investigation, Devil manipulates Nyashada into trusting him and convinces her that he genuinely harbors feelings of love for her.

Will Devil succeed in determining the true identity of Trivarna? What motivates Devil to work for the British? Will Nyashada genuinely place her trust in Devil?

Artistes’ Performances: Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, portraying a British agent, perfectly embodies the appearance of a British agent, thanks to his outfits and overall getup. He puts in his best effort to bring the character to life, aligning his performance with the requirements of the story and genre.

Samyuktha's depiction of a girl secretly working for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose holds interest.

Malvika Nair, portraying another INA independence fighter, has a brief but impactful character.

Shafi, Ajay, and Satya all deliver decent performances in their respective roles.

Technical Excellence: The film is mounted on a large scale, and the production design is superb, effectively capturing the 1945 look.

Soundarajan's cinematography does justice to the era setting, and the costumes contribute to its technical assets. However, the background music is not effective in certain places.

Analysis Presenting a spy movie in a captivating manner is an enormous task, especially for Telugu filmmakers, given the recent failures in this genre. Managing a period spy thriller is even more challenging. Writer Srikanth Vissa skillfully combines the elements of the murder investigative genre with a spy thriller set in the British era.

The basic storyline crafted by Srikanth Vissa possesses the potential to become a riveting period espionage thriller. Indeed, the film commences in a really interesting manner. The Sherlock Holmes-style investigation at the beginning of the story may not be particularly thrilling, but it effectively establishes the mood and generates anticipation for the subsequent events. Moreover, the film neatly transitions toward the spy genre.

The portrayal of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, along with certain Indians secretly assisting Bose in the Madras presidency, is sufficient to evoke a sense of patriotism in this espionage thriller. However, these emotions only arise if they are narrated effectively. Indeed, "Devil" fails in this aspect, despite its storyline.

The narration and execution of the story have failed, despite its potential. It is straightforward to identify the Trojan that the British dispatched as a mole. The twist of the hero is quite straightforward, as he is the protagonist of the film and immediately guessable.

There are a couple of patriotic portions in the second half when it is revealed how a tiny group of freedom fighters is working secretly to support Netaji Subash Chandra Bose. But they are also underutilized.

While the first half of the film feels dragged out, the events near the end of the film feel rushed. As a result, despite having some interesting episodes in both halves, it ultimately lacks an engaging vibe.

Although Kalyan Ram's look, sincere performance, and spectacular production design work in its favor, "Devil," on the whole, is not a satisfying watch due to its flat storytelling and lack of effective handling.

Bottom line: Unsatisfactory Outcome
