The English minor offers students in other majors an opportunity to study the global literatures written in English—British and American, African, Asian and Australasian—from historical, cultural, and theoretical perspectives. It attends to literary forms, their evolution and traditions, while emphasizing the diversity of literature’s motives, occasions, influences and effects. Along with the considerable pleasure of reading the myriad expressions of literary art in English, what humanity has to say about itself over centuries and continents, the minor provides a substantial education in critical analysis and argument.
Residence Requirement for the English Minor: Four upper-division courses must be completed successfully at UCI. By petition, two of the four may be taken through the UC Education Abroad Program, providing course content is approved in advance by the department undergraduate chair.
