Research Volunteer (laboratory of Prof. Antonia Kaczkurkin)

Research volunteers in the BRAINS Lab in Wilson Hall assist with data collection for studies on anxiety and depressive symptoms. Duties may include recruiting participants, administering cognitive tests, assisting with prepping participants for EEG and fMRI data collection, serving as a back-up MRI participant, completing data preprocessing and cleaning, conducting literature reviews, assisting with IRB submissions, updating the lab manual and website, and assisting with basic data analysis and visualization. This is an unpaid position for Vanderbilt undergraduates that is ideal for those seeking research experience in preparation for graduate or medical school. The requirements are as follows:

1) The student is expected to work a minimum of 3-4 hours per week in the lab.

2) The student must complete human subjects, cognitive assessment, EEG, and fMRI training.

3) The student is expected to be reliable, show attention to detail, be highly responsive, and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Continuation in the lab will be decided based on meeting the expected weekly hours, satisfactory performance, and timely completion of lab tasks.

Research & Program Officer, Office of Faculty Development & Diversity

Description

Stanford University School of Medicine, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, was founded in 1858 with a mission to be the premier research-intensive medical school that improves health through leadership, diversity, and a collaborative approach to discovery and innovation in patient care, education, and research.

The Office of Faculty Development & Diversity fosters excellence across Stanford Medicine through an inclusive faculty community that reflects the global nature of medicine and science today. OFDD offers professional education, leadership programs, networking opportunities, speaker series, and skills-building workshops on cultural considerations, mentorship, unconscious bias, conflict resolution, and other topics critical to creating a positive environment. The Research & Program Officer will implement and administer this vision and mission.

Duties include:

  • Conduct and manage research projects on faculty recruitment, retention, advancement, and diversity. For example, analyze and report on gender and race/ethnicity equity in patient satisfaction and faculty evaluations for presentation to Stanford Medicine leadership and at national conferences.
  • Manage professional education and leadership programs for Stanford Medicine faculty. Target applicable opportunities to faculty. Evaluate existing programs and suggest improvements and/or gaps in programming, including developing and sourcing new programs.
  • Develop and maintain databases on information related to diversity in medicine, including potential research areas, leadership training topics, and assessment methods to plan future research and programming activities.
  • Prepare workshop and training materials on faculty development and diversity topics including leadership, mentorship, unconscious bias, and microaggressions.
  • Write and edit articles for internal and external audiences, including peer-reviewed publications, on topics such as faculty recruitment, retention, advancement, and diversity. Develop relationships with key audiences and publications.
  • Support OFDD in developing content and managing logistics for diversity symposia and cultural competency workshops. Conduct outreach to key constituencies to drive attendance.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong interest or educational background in medical school environments, educational programs, professional development activities, program evaluation, and/or diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience conducting research and using statistical analysis.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint.

Andy Van Schaack

Principal senior lecturer, department of human and organizational development, associate professor of the practice, division of general engineering.

Dr. Andy Van Schaack is a professor at Vanderbilt University with appointments in the Peabody College of Education and the School of Engineering. He teaches courses in social science research methods, organizational psychology, judgment and analytic-reasoning, and technology forecasting. His research focuses on the development and assessment of technologies that make teaching and learning more effective, efficient, and accessible. Early in his career, Dr. Van Schaack worked for Apple in Cupertino, California and Tokyo, Japan. More recently, he founded and served as Chief Scientist for several technology companies including Cerego of San Francisco, California and Livescribe of Oakland, California. He has earned 15 patents (granted and pending) for inventions related to adaptive learning systems and digital pens technologies. As the Associate Dean for Online Programs at Peabody College, he was responsible for launching Vanderbilt University’s first two online graduate degree programs. In 2017 he was the recipient of the Madison Sarratt Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (Vanderbilt University’s teacher of the year award). Dr. Van Schaack holds a bachelor’s degree in instructional psychology and a doctorate in instructional technology from Utah State University.

To assist in the data acquisition and data analysis of experimental laboratory research under the direction of Professor Amelia Fuller, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Santa Clara University. This is a part-time, fixed-term position. Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices. Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools. Coordinate university tax reporting and other tax matters. Manage the University’s endowment reporting and unitization of endowment pool. Assist the Assistant Controller and Controller in preparation of the University financials. Act as a Finance Representative to various University departments and train other Finance Representatives.

Accounting Manager, Investment and Financial Reporting

Under the supervision of the Custodial Services Manager, the custodian shall clean and maintain the interior areas of campus buildings to established standards of hygiene. This position requires continuous movement and mobility. Reasonable accommodations will be made to facilitate the performance of this work by persons with physical or mental impairments. This position is included in the SCU Maintenance bargaining unit. Union membership is a condition of employment.
