IPL 2023 AWARDS
Dhoni and Co. proceed to lift the IPL Trophy!
Dhoni on his IPL retirement: Looking for an answer? This is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love I have received all over. The easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing would be working hard for 9 months and try to play another IPL. It would be a gift from me, won’t be easy on the body. You do get emotional, the first game at CSK everyone was chanting my name. My eyes were full of water, I needed to take some time off in the dugout. I realised I need to enjoy this. I think they love me for what I am, they love that I am so grounded, I don’t try to portray something I’m not. Just keep it simple. Every trophy is special, but what is special about IPL is every crunch game you need to be ready. There were lapses today, the bowling department didn’t work, but it was the batting department that took the pressure off them today. I do get frustrated, it is human but I try to step into their shoes, every individual deals with pressure differently. Ajinkya and a few others are experienced, so you don’t worry. If anyone is confused, then can always ask. The special thing about Rayudu is he will always give his 100% when he is on his field. But with him in the team, I will never win the fairplay award. I’ve been playing with him for a long time, since the India A tours. He’s a player who can play spin and pace equally well. It is something really special. I felt he would do something really special today, he’s also like me - not someone who uses the phone often. I hope he enjoys the next phase of his life.

Chennai Super Kings beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets in a last-ball thriller to earn its fifth IPL title on Tuesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
With 10 required off two deliveries in a 171-run chase, Ravindra Jadeja slammed a six and a four to record a miraculous win for MS Dhoni’s team.
PLAYERS SPEAK
Ambati Rayudu: It’s a fairytale finish and I couldn’t have asked for more. It’s unbelievable, really fortunate to have played in some great sides. This win is something I will remember for the rest of my life, for all the hardwork in the last 30 years, happy that it finished on this note. I would like to take this moment to thank my family and thank my father, without him I wouldn’t have been here today.
Tushar Deshpande: I said this at the start of the tournament that I want to win the IPL and I am really happy with my performance. Will be working on the areas to improve and with DJ (Bravo), on my side, I have clear plans on how to go about my bowling.
Ravindra Jadeja: Feeling amazing winning fifth title in front of my home crowd. They’ve come in big numbers to support CSK. This crowd has been amazing. They were waiting for rain to stop till late night. Want to say big congratulations to CSK fans. Want to dedicate this win to one of the special members of our team - MS Dhoni. I was just thinking that I need to swing hard no matter what. Yeah anything can happen. I was looking to hit straight because Mohit can bowl slower ones. Want to say congratulations to each and every fan of CSK. Just keep cheering the way you’ve been cheering.
Ajinkya Rahane: Really enjoyed it. Credit goes to CSK management and Mahi bhai. They said they would back me completely if I got an opportunity, and told me what my role was before the season. They did not interfere at all and the freedom which CSK gives is massive. Really happy with the way I batted. This is really special. Great character to have, very intense, very hard-working, great team man I would say. The knock he played today was really really special. Very happy for him.
Moeen Ali: Voice has gone already. Amazing feeling. To beat such a good side on a wicket like that was amazing. You’re always learning from MS, just about how you deal with players and different situations.
Mike Hussey: Can’t take much credit for that, but what a phenomenal game. Credit to GT for the way they fought. Jaddu did enough in the end, thankfully. (On MS Dhoni) He’s an amazing human being, the biggest strength is taking the pressure off the young guys. You saw a good example of that in the qualifier with Senapati, he told him to calm down and he got us that big run-out. Tactically very smart, and he and Stephen complement each other very well. That’s the benefit of experience, they are so cool and calm. Some of those shots from Rayudu, I don’t think many in the world can hit shots to slower balls like that.
Stephen Fleming: We have like 20-odd players and 15 coaching staff. It’s a caravan of people but at the end of the day, you’re all just sitting and watching helplessly. (On developing players) He’s (Pathirana) been massive. We have been a little bit short in the bowling department so Tushar fronted up. We have enough talent there with Chahar, Simarjeet and a few others. With Pathirana, the backend all of a sudden became a weapon for us.
Dwayne Bravo: It has been good, very happy with the team and this journey. Got to give credit to this team. We are all happy and proud to see these young bowlers take on the pressure. (On Tushar Deshpande) Happy with his progress, enjoyed working with him and all the other guys. I hope my best friend Kieron Pollard is watching, he has some catching up to do.
Devon Conway: (On his strategy) I think just positive intent, swing for the hills. It has been great batting with Rutu, such a clean hitter of the ball. Our partnership has worked really well, left-right combination and we enjoy our game together. I think it has been great, the environment here is really great. Happy that we are heading in the right direction and great to be part of this group.
Deepak Chahar: Every time, we had a discussion, he (Rayudu), kept telling me that I am going to win the final. He had the belief! When you are playing, you just want to contribute. It was a simple plan. Me and Rayudu were discussing, whenever we play, we will give our best and win the title.
Ruturaj Gaikwad: This one was more special because how last year went for us. To come back in style, to win games at Chepauk and to win away games. The way everyone contributed through the season. Jinks, Conway.. Rayudu wasn’t getting balls. Would like to dedicate the win to Rayudu. Even today we were talking about having a good start. With wickets in hand, we thought we’ll easily chase down 12-13 an over in the end.

RCB vs LSG IPL 2023: Full List of Award Winners, Man of The Match, Post Match Presentation and Record
RCB vs LSG IPL 2023: Lucknow Super Giants defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in a thriller by a wicket as the visitors chased down a 213-run target at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday. Nicholas Pooran (62) and Marcus Stoinis (65) starred in the win after RCB star batters did some heavy lifting in the first innings.
Sent in to bat first, Faf du Plessis (79*), Virat Kohli (61), and Glenn Maxwell (59) did all of the batting to take RCB to a huge 212/2 in 20 overs. Du Plessis also hit one of the sixes outside the stadium to put himself in contention for the longest six awards. Mark Wood dismissed Maxwell in the 20th over to put himself further in the lead of the Purple Cap with nine wickets.
Chasing the target, LSG were in trouble early with Kyle Mayers (0) and Deepak Hooda (9) and Krunal Pandya back in the pavilion by the end of the powerplay. Marcus Stoinis (65) brought the side back in the chase while KL Rahul brought the side back in the game but their quick dismissals opened up the game again.
However, Pooran took charge with a 15-ball 50 to bring back LSG in the chase with Ayush Badoni (30) helping from the other end. The duo, however, fell late in the death overs as the equation went down to 1 run needed from 1 ball and a wicket to spare as Harshal Patel bowled his heart out at the death.
The match would have headed into a super over after Avesh Khan couldn't touch the final delivery but it was a fumble from Dinesh Karthik behind the stumps that allowed Khan and Ravi Bishnoi to complete the winning runs in a memorable encounter

RCB vs LSG IPL 2023 Match 1: Who Said What
Nicholas Pooran | Player of the Match: "I want to dedicate this performance to my wife and new born. We knew that the game was on, Stoinis and KL had a wonderful partnership. Stoinis kept us in the game and I knew this was a nice wicket. We could chase even over 50 in the last four, it was about cashing in.
"The second ball I came in and smashed a six. It isn't about getting a look in, if it is in my slot then I will smash it for six. Over the past couple of years, I've put a lot of pressure on myself to finish games. Today also I wanted to finish the game, but got out in the end.
"I hope this is the season for me, in a good space and state of mind. Just want to enjoy my cricket, play with a smile and entertain, and win games for my team.
Marcus Stoinis: "It was a beautiful pitch. I knew I had to be attacking but I also knew it was a pretty important stage of the game as well. It was nice to contribute to the team. We are a young franchise. We hadn't won a game away from home this season yet, it's important. We're all getting on really well.
"That's important to get some momentum early. It's fun to hit the middle of the bat and contribute for the team. We did (when asked if his team believed that it was an achievable target), we actually bowled well in the powerplay, it was some beautiful batting from Virat and Faf. Some of those shots, you don't see everyday.
"We bowled okay there and our spinners bowled beautifully. History suggests that 200 is pretty much par. The plan was to get off to a good start and go from there.
KL Rahul: Unbelievable. This is the Chinnaswamy, only venue where so many last-ball finishes are possible. From the possible we were in to end up winning in superb. We had to go hard and the ball swung early, and they got 2-3 wickets to put pressure on us.
"The only reason we got two points today is for the way the lower order batted. Not ideal for me, I want to score more runs and get the strike rate up as well."
"We've played on two tough Lucknow wickets, and today we lost 3 wickets so I went slower. I wanted to stay till the end and play with Nicky. Batting 5,6,7 in the toughest positions to play and that's where games are won and lost. We know about the power in Marcus and Nicky, and Ayush has come along as well. He's played 2-3 knocks last innings, and he's continued to perform well for us."

RCB Likely Retention List: Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, Rajat Patidar In But No Place For...
Royal challengers bengaluru are have some tough retention calls to make ahead of ipl 2025 season..
As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) continues to make the franchises wait for the retention policy ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, franchises are working in the background to find perfect solutions for their respective squads. Reports have suggested that the BCCI is unlikely to allow the retention of more than 6 players ahead of the auction, including Right To Match, making it quite tricky for the 10 teams to decide their retention and release list.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who went on an unreal run last season to make it to the playoffs, also have some tough calls to take before their finalise their retention list. The biggest of all, arguably, the decision whether to retain their skipper Faf du Plessis or not.
5 Players RCB are likely to retain ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction:
Virat Kohli : Undoubtedly the No. 1 pick for the franchise. Virat Kohli might have retired from T20 internationals but still has a lot to offer to his franchise. He was the top-scoring batter in the IPL 2024 season, with 741 runs to his name. There's no way RCB would even think about letting him go.
Mohammed Siraj : Unarguably the finest pacer in the team for RCB, Siraj is one of the core members of the franchise, alongside Kohli. Though his performance last season was up to the mark, the franchise is still likely to show faith in him.
Yash Dayal : His arrival at RCB from Gujarat Titans had become a big talking point but Dayal proved the doubters wrong, proving to be an important asset in the RCB arsenal. Since the conclusion of the 2024 season, Dayal has gone on to impress even the national selectors, becoming a key next-gen star who could be in line to make his India debut soon.
Rajat Patidar: A solid middle-order batter, Rajat Patidar has been a revelation for RCB over the last few years. He is all but certain to keep his place in the roster, and doesn't even face much competition from others in the squad for his spot.
Will Jacks: With Glenn Maxwell being off-coloured, Will Jacks is likely to partner Cameron Green for the two overseas spots in the team. Though, it might not be possible for RCB to keep both Green and Jacks in the retention list if they are to keep hold of Dayal.
Likely to Miss Out:
Cameron Green : The Australian all-rounder is a rare commodity in the sport. Since his arrival at the franchise, Green hasn't set the stage on fire. This is one of the reasons why RCB might decide to release him.
Faf du Plessis: RCB might just decide to retain 5 players and assemble the rest of the squad in the auction. But, if they decide to retain a 6th player, Du Plessis faces competition from Green for the spot.

Mikhail Lomonosov
Born: Denisovka, Archangelsk Province - 19 November 1711 Died: St. Petersburg - 15 April 1765
Mikhail Lomonosov was the great polymath of the Russian Enlightenment. Born in the deepest provinces of Northern Russia, he managed to gain a first-class education through a combination of natural intelligence and sheer force of will, and went on to make significant advances in several fields of science, as well as writing one of the first Russian grammars, several volumes of history, and a great quantity of poetry. In short, he was instrumental in pulling Russia further into the modern world, and in helping to make St. Petersburg a centre of learning as great as almost any in Europe.
Lomonosov was born in the village of Denisovka (now Lomonosovo), a village about 100 kilometers south-east of Arkhangelsk on the Severnaya Dvina river. His father was a peasant fisherman who had grown rich transporting goods from Arkhangelsk to settlements in the far north. His mother, the daughter of a deacon, died when he was very young, but not before she had taught him to read. From the age of ten, he accompanied his father on voyages to learn the business.
In 1730, however, determined to study, he ran away from home and walked over 1 000 kilometers to Moscow. Claiming to be the son of a provincial priest, he was able to enroll in the Slavic Greek Latin Academy, where he studied for five years before being sent on to St. Petersburg's Academic University. The following year (1736), he was a select group of outstanding students sponsored by the Academy of Sciences to study mathematics, chemistry, physics, philosophy and metallurgy in Western Europe. Lomonosov spent three years at the University of Marburg as a personal student of the philosopher Christian Wolff, then a year studying mining and metallurgy in Saxony, and a further year travelling in Germany and the Low Countries. While in Marburg, he fell in love with and married his landlady's daughter, Elizabeth Christine Zilch.
Due to lack of funds to support his young family, Lomonosov returned to St. Petersburg at the end of 1741, and was immediately appointed adjunct to the physics class at the Academy of Sciences. In 1745 he became the Academy's first Russian-born Professor of Chemistry, and in 1748 the first chemical research laboratory in Russia was built for him.
Throughout his career at the Academy, Lomonosov was a passionate advocate for making education in Russia more accessible to the lower ranks of Russian society. He campaigned to give public lectures in Russian and for the translation into Russian of more scientific texts. In this, he found himself in conflict with one of the founders of the Academy, the German ethnologist Gerhard Friedrich Miller (whose views on the importance of Scandinavians and Germans in Russian history Lomonosov also hotly disputed). By composing and presenting at an official Assembly of the Academy in 1749 his ode to the Empress Elizaveta Petrovna, Lomonosov gained considerable favour at court and a powerful ally in his pedagogical endeavours in the form of Elizaveta's lover, Count Ivan Shuvalov. Together, Lomonosov and Shuvalov founded Moscow University in 1755. It was also thanks to Shuvalov's influence that the Empress granted Lomonosov a manor and four surrounding villages at Ust-Ruditsa, where he was able to implement his plan to open a mosaic and glass factory, the first outside Italy to produce stained glass mosaics.
By 1758, Lomonosov's responsibilities included overseeing the Academy's Geography Department, Historical Assembly, University and Gymnasium, the latter of which he again insisted on making open to lowborn Russians. In 1760, he was appointed a foreign member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences, and in 1764 he was similarly honoured by the Academy of Sciences of the Institute of Bologna. The same year, he was granted by Elizaveta Petrovna the rank of Secretary of State. He died 4 April 1765, and was buried in the Lazarev Cemetery of St. Petersburg's Alexander Nevsky Monastery.
Much of Lomonosov's work was unknown outside Russia until many years after his death, and even now it is more the extraordinary breadth of his inquiry and understanding, rather than any specific grand advancements in a particular field, that make him such a seminal figure in Russian science. Among the highlights of his academic career were his discovery of an atmosphere around Venus, his assertion of the Law of Conservation of Mass (nearly two decades before Antoine Lavoisier), and his development of a prototype of the Herschelian telescope. In 1764, he arranged the expedition along the northern coast of Siberia that discovered the Northeast Passage between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. His works also contained intuitions of the wave theory of light and the theory of continental drift. He made improvements to navigational instruments and demonstrated the organic origin of soil, peat, coal, petroleum and amber. Without knowledge of Da Vinci's work, he developed a working prototype of a helicopter.
He wrote the first guide to rhetoric in the Russian language, and his Russian Grammar was among the first to codify the language. His Ancient Russian History compared the development of Russia to the development of the Roman Empire, a theme that would become increasingly popular in the 19th century. His poetry was much praised during his lifetime, although it has been largely ignored by posterity.
Lomonosov is remembered in central St. Petersburg in the names of Ulitsa Lomonosova ("Lomonosov Street"), Ploshchad Lomonosova ("Lomonosov Square") and the adjacent bridge across the Fontanka River. During the Soviet Period, his name was given to the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory, and hence to the nearby metro station, Lomonosovskaya. The Soviets also renamed the suburban town of Oranienburg as Lomonosovo. In 1986, a magnificent monument to Lomonosov was unveiled in front of the Twelve Colleges, the main campus of St. Petersburg State University, acknowledging the enormous debt that institution owes the great polymath who is rightfully considered the father of Russian science.
