Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology abbreviating CUET has introduced their new Faculty of Architecture and planning in 2009 including the Department of Architecture and Department of Urban and Regional Planning and with a future vision of opening the department of Landscape Architecture. At present studio classes and other curriculum activities are held under a building of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Department. The faculty was introduced in 2009 and already they have two batches admitted in 2010 and 2011. So it has been very urgent to complete the design phase of the academic building of the faculty. Students are also eagerly waiting to be shifted in their own campus. The authority has a great desire to make their new campus building as much sustainable as possible by following the rules of Leadership in Engineering and Environmental design abbreviating LEED. Here feasibility is also a great factor. CUET authority has decided for arranging a design competition for the Faculty of Architecture and Planning as soon as their budget is passed.

This paper aims to present and discuss phases of planning and designing campuses for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The authors argue that creating a taxonomy to control an environment conducive to learning is of the same order of importance as that for education as depicted by Bloom, given the size, financial burden, and influence on learning outcomes. A specific model is proposed for the taxonomy of planning campuses for HEIs with four ordered phases: educational programming, spaces programming, master planning, and detailed design. The researchers followed four methodologies to support the proposed model: A literature review to seek relevant knowledge and terms used in previous studies; a descriptive discussion of the proposed campus planning and design taxonomy model; a survey of experts in educational and campus planning to examine the proposed phases; and, a case study of the campus of Kingdom University in Bahrain where the phases of taxonomy were implemented. In this Working Paper, we compare two institutional types of universities in a systemic way along 13 dimensions and 141 characteristics: 1) The first type is the multiversity, because multiple arts and sciences are co-existing next to each other without overarching integration. The multiversity is an institutional type reflecting the currently prevailing paradigm in higher education, which we call Modernist Higher Education. 2) The second type of university can be called transversity, because it is transformative, transdisciplinary, transparadigmatic, transcultural, transgenerational, transsectoral and translocal. The transversity is an institutional type reflecting the emerging paradigm of Transformative Higher Education. There are many possible variants of transversities. In this paper, we focus on a specific transversity: the University for the Future (U4F). The U4F is a new multi-local university that is currently under development. The U4F is one among other contributions to the formation of the emerging paradigm of Transformative Higher Education. The U4F represents a whole system (re)design of higher education. The contention is that reinventing higher education for the 21st century requires transformative changes in all dimensions in ways that are aligned with each other. The comparison therefore emphasizes the systemic, multidimensional view of the changes that are needed in and beyond higher education to grow out of the contemporary Grand Challenges into a dignified next stage of human civilisation. The comparison is based on long-standing professional experience of the authors in multiversities and in educational innovation initiatives. For the sake of readability, literature is not included in the comparison tables.

Education, which aims to impart knowledge, culture, art and various values, is one of the most important actions performed by individuals. In architectural education, which is part of these actions, candidates are expected to develop creative ideas in response to design problems by using components such as function, context, form and structure. Numerous scientific research studies have been conducted on the manner and methods of design education to materialize this expectation. A portion of these research studies highlights the significant role of spatial and formal experience in imparting design knowledge to architectural candidates. In other words, the environments where architectural education takes place are expected to serve as examples of spatial and formal qualities due to their mission of providing formation to future designers. In this regard, this research focuses on the examination of the spatial and formal qualities of a contemporary architectural product. The relevant architectural product is located within Atatürk University, which has a rich history and has been a center for higher education activities in various disciplines for many years. Established in 1957, the university has evolved along with the progress of new scientific fields and in accordance with a 2010 Council of Ministers decision, the Faculty of Architecture and Design was added to its structure. The research aims to identify design criteria related to the "faculty of architecture" typology and create a micro-scale data source for the future. The experimental section of the research includes evaluations of concept project, implementation project and usage stage. Steps such as examining architectural projects, conducting observation studies in the built environment and documenting the current state through photography have been followed. The research findings indicate that i) Changes occur between the concept project and the implementation project, ii) Current conditions include user interventions, iii) These changes and interventions point to the content of the architectural program.

The Cayirova Campus Settlement of Gebze Institute of Technology (GYTE) consists of three main areas where their connections are mostly isolated: (i) the area including administrative buildings and the school of architecture (ii) the area located between the railway and the seashore , (iii) the area where the buildings left from the Seed Certification Institute. The second year Architectural Design Studio has searched for proposals in order to build relations using the potentials of those areas such as railway/highway connections, the creek, the wood and seashore. There is evidence that the number of students using the campus is growing due to the increases in the acceptance of students in the recent years; and facilities are not adequate for the increasing demands. The absence/inadequacy of these facilities such as central library, dormitories and other accommodation, gathering spaces, student centre, arts & exhibition centre; lead to abundance impression when the common working hours in the campus end. This work aims to present the proposals of students who took part in this design studio. The study is conducted during the 2009-2010 Spring Semester for 14 weeks. Two tutors, one assistant tutor and 10 students attended to the studies. The project topic is presented by informing students about the integration of three main parts of the campus. Then the students are asked to develop proposals within two phases preceding each other. In the first phase, macro-scaled analysis for the particular areas of the campus is focused. The programs of proposals are formatted due to the other campus examples and students' own living experiences. Therefore, the program was not fixed and dictated, but was flexible and open to findings by the students. Students focused on integration of the neighbourhoods surrounding the campus as well as those three main parts. Different approaches were used in order to make use of the potentials of the areas; such as transportation, water element, hierarchy of greenery, user profiles, usage periods and characters of public spaces. As the first phase ended, the students were asked to focus on one particular facility within their proposal. The second phase focused on micro-scaled design and architectural approach. For the proposals of selected facilities; accessibility and sustainability were the main focus in order to create solutions. In both phases; plan, section and facade proposals; as well as the 3D visualisations-modelling and models were used in order to develop the concept. In addition, short animations and weekly sketch exercises were made.

Any construction project to begin with the Layout of the building or structure followed by the Design & Analysis of the structure which is succeeded by cost estimation and planning for the said project. This project involves the layout, design, analysis, planning & cost estimation of a G+1 college building. In this project, we considered the complete planning, designing, detailing, drafting and estimation of a degree building. The area reserved for the college building is around 1 acre. And the complete planning and detailing was done by using AUTO Cad software. The layout of the proposed Ground and first floor degree building is based on a plot of size 28654 Sft. All the drafting work was done by AutoCAD. Designing is done manually. The cost estimate for the project has been calculated using Microsoft Excel. For the abstract cost, Public Work Department (PWD) Schedule of rates has been followed by the Government of Karnataka for the year 2022-23 and a total abstract cost is around 5.00 crores.

By the mid-nineteenth century, art and architecture education in Iran had been based upon traditional apprenticeship. The architecture of the educational buildings in Iran has stylistically changed since the early 1850s, when the first European style technical college was established. Since then, not only have Westernism, nationalism, and modernism influenced the cultural and architectural taste of the Iranian society, but they also had an impact on that of the authorities, and consequently, on that of the university architects, who were commissioned by the westernising governments of the Qajars and the Pahlavis. This study explores the ways in which the traditional styles in designing higher education buildings in Iran have been transformed into modern and regionalist ones.
