Review Guidelines

Authors are requested to submit articles directly to Online Manuscript Submission System. First, please log in to ScholarOne Manuscripts at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/bmr and edit your user information accordingly. You can also check the status of your manuscript any time at the Author Center after logging into this URL.

Submitted papers are pre-reviewed by Editors-in-Chief and judged to be processed for peer-review or rejected in 7 days. Papers passed through the pre-reviewing are processed to peer-reviewing by the editorial board members and experts in related field. The Editors-in-Chief typically select one reviewer from the Editorial Board and/or experts outside the Editorial Board in corresponding research fields. In light of the reviewers’ opinion, the Editorial Board decides whether or not to accept the submission for publication. Papers are judged as accept, minor revision, major revision or reject for publication. The whole reviewing process will usually take 2—3 weeks after receipt of the manuscript. Review process need not any payment.

Author Guidelines

 Revised January 1, 2024

1.     Editorial Scope

Biomedical Research (Tokyo) publishes original research articles and reviews from a wide range of medical sciences, mainly in the fields of experimental and basic medicine. In vitro studies are recommended to joint with in vivo experiment; only in vitro studies using cell lines are discouraged. A submission of merely statistic or clinical studies is unsuitable. The purpose of Biomedical Research is to facilitate interdisciplinary discussion of topics in different research fields of medical sciences, toward understanding the discipline of how cells, tissues and organisms are structured and function in both physiological and pathological contexts.

Submission of a paper to Biomedical Research involves the tacit assurance that no similar paper, other than a preliminary report, has been or will be submitted for publication elsewhere. Papers that do not conform to the general criteria for publication in Biomedical Research will be returned to authors without reviewing, to avoid unnecessary delay in submission elsewhere.

2. Type of Manuscripts

Full papers are expected to encompass complete findings of original research. Communications are short articles of special interest and importance that are qualified for a rapid publication. The length should not exceed 5 pages on published issues. Preliminary but worth reporting observations can be considered as a communication. Review articles should provide concise and critical discussions of current developments in experimental and medical sciences. Before preparing a review article, prospective authors should consult an Editor-in-chief.

3.     Organization of Manuscripts

A full paper should be assembled in the following order: title page, abstract, introduction, experimental procedures (materials and methods), results, discussion, acknowledgements, references, tables, figure legends, and figures. All pages should be numbered consecutively starting with the title page. It is important that the authors confirm, on the pdf for peer-review, the submitted paper is correct in style.

Title page should include the title, names of authors and their institutions, a running title of not more than 30 characters including spaces, and the name and e-mail address of author(s) to whom editorial correspondence should be addressed. The abstract should be intelligible in itself, and should not exceed 200 words . Results and discussion sections may be combined when appropriate. Any tables and legends to figures should be written on separate sheets.

A communication should not be divided into sections, but the title page and the abstract (with approximately 100 words ) are required.

Authors should follow the Recommendations of the IUPAC-IUB Commission for nomenclature and abbreviations. Any non-standard abbreviations should be minimized, and appropriately defined when used.

4.     References

Citation of literature reference in the text should be given in parenthesis including the first author (first or first and second authors in cases of total two authors) and publication year. When references are more than 2, they must be ordered in year order.

References cited in the text should be listed in alphabetical order at the end of the article. Articles submitted for publication and unpublished observations or personal communications should not be included in the reference list, but can be cited as such only in the text. Responsibility for the accuracy of bibliographic reference rests entirely with the author. Citations in reference list should include the names of five authors at the maximum (and use et al. for more), publication year, the title, volume number, both first and last page numbers. The authors are recommended to follow the form seen in current issues of Biomedical Research (Tokyo) .

5.     Required items listed at the end of text

☆Ethics approval and consent to participate

For example; The Ethics Committee of xxx University approved this study. All methods were performed in accordance with relevant guidelines, regulations and the Declaration of Helsinki. Written informed consent was collected from all participants.

☆Conflict of Interest (COI)

☆Funding

☆Author contributions

6.     Charges to Authors (Article processing charges)

Authors will be assessed 10,000 Yen per printed page (each page on line publication), and the total cost will be billed at the time of publication. The inability to pay the page charge will not prejudice publication of the paper.

7.     Proofs and Reprints

Correction of galley proofs is the responsibility of the author. Corrections other than printer’s errors should be avoided, because they may cause a delay in publication. Any substantial changes at the proof stage require editorial approval.

Reprints can be ordered at prices shown on the reprint order form which will be sent to the author with the proofs.
