wait for you book review

Wait For You by J. Lynn (who also writes as Jennifer L. Armentrout). William Morrow, an imprint of Harper Collins. 2013. Personal copy.

Late to her first class, she runs into Cameron Hamilton, sending pens and notebooks flying. He’s handsome, he’s flirty, he’s nice, so Avery does what anyone would do.

She runs away. “I moved over a thousand miles to start over and I already mucked it up in a matter of minutes.”

Except Avery runs into Cam again. And again. Walking home, he’s there. Once back in her apartment building? He lives across the hall. They share a class. Cam likes her.

Starting over isn’t easy. She hadn’t planned on handsome Cam. She hadn’t planned on falling for him. Is she ready for something to happen? Will Cam wait for her?

The Good : As I explained in my review of The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden, as part of my preparation for the ALA Conversation Starter I’m doing with Sophie Brookover and Kelly Jensen, I’m reading a lot about what “New Adult” is or isn’t, what is or isn’t being published, and, of course, reading some of the books that have the “New Adult” designation. Briefly, New Adult is primarily for a readership of ages 18 to 25.

I liked Avery and Cam, even if at times Avery was erratic in what she did or didn’t do. As a character, she didn’t really work for me until the second half of the book. Cam — Cam had the patience of a saint. It’s not just that Avery sent mixed messages; it’s that Avery had secrets, some pretty significant, and those secrets really affected her ability to truly connect with those around her. While the timeline of recovery made sense from Avery’s point of view, how did Cam see it? Especially a Cam who had no idea that recovery was even going on?

Oh, spoilers, by the way. So if you’re like me, looking for a NA book to read? This was a nice quick read; and (as far as I can be a judge after just two books!) contains the emotional impact that readers are looking for. So many feelings! Being honest, even there were certain things with the plot and Avery’s characterization that had me eye-rolling, or didn’t work for the type of reader I am, I really liked Avery, Cam, and their friends; liked the plotting in the last third of the book; and am going to keep my eye out for the sequels that tell the story from Cam’s point of view, as well as a story for Cam’s sister and Avery’s best friend.

Spoilers. As with Callie and Kayden , this had a certain level of hurt/comfort to it, except it wasn’t quite as overblown soap opera. The past that Avery is running away from is that she was raped, wasn’t believed, became the town outcast, was emotionally neglected by her parents, and had a suicide attempt. Cam’s past hurt is more a secret than a hurt: he beat up his sister’s abusive boyfriend and was arrested. Cam is supposed to be a “player,” but in terms of what is in the book, that just seems to mean that he has had lots of sex before he meets Avery. He never appears to be in doubt about wanting a relationship with Avery (at least, not in a “but I’m a PLAYER” type way), and never cheats on her.

As with Callie and Kayden , I kept wanting to yell at Avery, “therapists! they have therapists in West Virginia!” What I liked is that Avery is doing her best without any type of outside counseling; she truly believed, I think, that new place meant new Avery. To a certain extent, yes, that is true. But, as Buckaroo Banzai said, “no matter where you go…. there you are.” Wait For You turns out not be about Cam waiting for Avery to be ready, as Avery waiting for herself to truly deal with and address the rape and the aftermath. Cam ends up being an important part of her support system in this happening, but this is not Cam “fixing” Avery.

Here’s another thing I tend to yell at books that include unreported crimes, especially the type of crime that tends to be repeated by the perpetrator. “Call the police,” I say, “so it doesn’t happen to someone else. This isn’t just about you.” I won’t say how, but Wait For You addresses this point in a way I found satisfying. (It would only be “very” satisfying if there were a fourth book. But that’s as spoilery as I’ll get on that point.)

Other reviews: Interview with the author at Digital Book World; Avery’s Book Nook; Dear Author; Under the Covers Book blog; Babbling About Books.

I know it’s impossible and hardly fair to judge New Adult on two books. With both books, I was struck by the emotional intensity; the desire for reinvention; and finding someone to trust after a lifetime of not being able to trust. Since I’m approaching New Adult not just as a reader, but as someone wondering whether New Adult is a thing and how to meet readers’ needs, I’m glad I read them (and may try a few more) to understand what readers are looking for and what other books may meet those needs.

With the low price point of many of these books, I think “eh, it’s cheap enough, so why not buy it and see whether or not I like it?” From what I understand, that’s not an uncommon approach to these books and is part of the explanation of the high sales. So what if I don’t like it, or don’t read it? It’s just a couple of dollars! For those of you who want to spend even less, that is, nothing, there’s a free ebook sampler of New Adult titles called Between The Covers: The Hottest New Adult Books.

If you have suggestions for other New Adult titles I should try (especially one that doesn’t include recovering from sexual assault), please let me know!

SOME THINGS ARE WORTH WAITING FOR… Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself. SOME THINGS ARE WORTH EXPERIENCING… Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, omplete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed. SOME THINGS SHOULD NEVER BE KEPT QUIET… But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her? AND SOME THINGS ARE WORTH FIGHTING FOR…

I picked up this series because I need more JLA in my life and it’s as simple as that. What more reason could I possibly need to read this book?

section header

Quite simply put, this is one of JLA’s contemporary romances; it is a college romance set in West Virginia University centered around freshman Avery Morgansten, who pretty much running from a past. She meets new people, among them the rather charming and handsome Cameron Hamilton.

section header

The main character, Avery, is the most complex character here, in my opinion, and this is a good thing because if she is the protagonist I wanna know more about her, to dissect her, to understand her! I think she is a great character, very nicely multi-faceted, and very intriguing from the get go.

Cameron is a complete heartthrob! Cam is officially joining the ranks of my book boyfriends because of how husband material he is. He is a great guy and a great complement to Avery, I think.

The side characters here were just so good! They had some amazing lines and I just loved their appearances, especially Jacob and Britt. I am just in love with the whole gang!

section header

Wait For You starts out like any normal college romance, but ends up being so much more. I love how JLA really built up the content in this book because I started getting worried that just one book on Cam and Avery might not suffice. But JLA really took her time and nicely stretched out the story so there was this really nice, smooth flow.

There were so many iconic moments in this book; so much so that I am considering a reread once I am done with the whole series! Would be totally worth it! Also, can we appreciate how the story was not always just Avery and Cam? There were a good, realistic mix of Avery’s everyday life while giving us a generous dose of the romance here! Bravo!

section header

Wait For You is a contemporary novel, so not really much world-building going on, but I still felt quite a bit of it. First of all, I have never been to college; the way my curriculum goes is that we finish high school with our A-Levels and go straight into university (and I was 17 when this happened!), so I felt like I had a bit of an atypical academic journey there. So, these college romances are my guilty pleasures; I am living my life voraciously through these.

I am thrilled to say that JLA literally made me want to go to college with this novel! Thrilled because that’s great writing, not because I love living my life in education institutions. So, I am gonna say props for world-building! Love it!

section header

Let’s go with the biggest theme here first: romance. JLA’s portrayal of relationships here, meaning Avery and Cam, was just amazing!. I love how they go through this journey, but they have their own bits that they need to work on their own to meet the other halfway. I am a huge fan of the chemistry between these two and I am in desperate need of a Cam in my life! HAHA!

The really heavy theme here was the sexual abuse and the stigma that comes with being a survivor. Having no personal experience, I feel uncomfortable discussing this on a public platform, but what I liked about this book was how JLA brought in many different issues around that theme from multiple points of view.

section header

I can safely say that Wait For You is officially one of my favourite reads of 2021! And I was shocked that my second book of the year just blew away like this! I would totally recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance with lots of chemistry, steam and substance!

Anyone else on a JLA binge right now? Let me know in the comments below!

Series: Wait For You (Page 1 of 2)

Book review + interview + giveaway – fire in you (wait for you #6) by jennifer l. armentrout (j. lynn ).

Synopsis: From the # 1 New York Times and International bestselling author, Jennifer L. Armentrout writing as J. Lynn, comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and hope. Full of familiar, fan-favorite characters and no two people more deserving of a happy ending, Fire In You will burn bright beyond the last page… Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living. She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what. Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the past sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.

Fire In You was the perfect conclusion to the Wait For You Series!  Watching Jillian and Brock’s story unfold reminded me yet again why Jennifer Armentrout is my favorite author.  You see she writes these characters that embed themselves deeply into my heart.  I feel every single emotion they take on, and I become completely invested into their lives.  And Brock and Jillian did just that.   The chemistry between them was insanely seductive and their story continually pulled at my heartstrings.  You must meet them!

I gave my heart so completely, so fully to someone else, that when my heart was broken, those pieces I’d freely given away weren’t mine any longer. My heart wasn’t complete.

Jillian Lima has known Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell since she was eight years old.  Her father took in a fourteen year old Brock and helped him straighten out his life.  They became the best of friends, and Jillian was always Brock’s little shadow.  She adored and loved him with her whole heart, until the night he shattered it and then her life was ripped apart by a gunman.  We start the story six years after that horrific night, and Jillian is finally ready to start living her life again.  She accepts a job at her father’s company, and even agrees to go out on a double date with Cam and Avery.   BTW you get to see ALL of the people from the previous books, and yes it was beyond amazing seeing where they all were in their lives!  But Jillian isn’t prepared for Brock to come back into her life.  He isn’t part of her plan for living again, and she truly isn’t ready to face him or her past.

He pushed off the wall, wrapping a large hand around my arm, stopping me. “We haven’t seen each other in years and you’re just going to walk away? No hug? No ‘how have you been?’ Nothing?” “Sounds about right.” I pulled on my arm, and after a few seconds he let go.

From the moment Brock walked back into Jillian’s life and crowded her in that hall, I was a goner.   Brock makes you want to fan your face, laugh and melt into a puddle while you have a goofy grin on your face.  Okay maybe that’s just me, but he’s seductive, charming and I desperately wanted him on every single page of this book.   With his take charge attitude and an alpha personality he knows exactly how to push Jillian outside of her comfort zone.   Especially when he would say the right things, or touch her oh so perfectly.  Her traitorous body loved it, while her mind fought it.  Yet Jillian isn’t the quiet little girl he once knew .  She stands up for herself at times, and it impressed not only me but Brock too.

“I don’t know you anymore,” he said quietly, and when I didn’t respond— couldn’t because the statement caught me off-guard, he tipped his head back. “I know the old Jillian. Could sit here all day and tell you about her, but this Jillian? I don’t know her.” A wry grin appeared. “But I want to.”

Yet Jillian still feels hindered.  She has nightmares and she’s self-conscious about the way surgery changed her features because of that night six years ago.  I felt not only her frustration but her nervousness and at times her fear.  I just wanted to give her a huge hug and make her understand that she was enough.  To tell her to have faith in herself and see how wonderful she was.  But as the story progressed, I became so proud of how much she grew.  And for how much strength she found in herself.

“Please tell me I’m dreaming right now.” “If you were dreaming , I’d hope we’d both have less clothes on.” “What?” My jaw hit the top of the table. Was he flirting with me?

While I loved watching Jillian and Brock in the present….you have to read the restaurant scenes because I can’t stop laughing every time I think about those times…, we also got to peak into moments from their past.   Whether it was a flashback to the night where everything went horrifically wrong or to a story from when they were much younger, we got to see their whole relationship.  We fully understood what they meant to each other.  It made perfect sense why the story proceeded in the way that it did.  Oh my gosh, I could go on and on because I loved every part of this story but I’ll let you discover the rest for yourself!  Just know that I laughed, I cried and I fell madly in love with Fire In You!  Jillian and Brock completely captured my heart and I promise you’ll fall hard for their story too.

✮ What is something that we might not know about Jillian and Brock?   Jillian has never seen Star Wars and Brock is afraid of snakes.

✮ What type of scenes are your favorite to write and will we find one of those moments in the pages of Fire in You? I love to write first kiss scenes and there is definitely a first kiss scene in Fire in You.

✮ What’s your favorite quality in either Jillian or Brock? My favorite quality in Jillian is her ability to forgive.

✮ While I’m not ready to say goodbye to this series, I must know, who was the hardest character to write in the Wait for You Series? Calla was the hardest character for me to write because she was dealing with both physical and emotional scars. It was difficult to find the perfect balance for her character in Stay Wi th Me.

✮ I always love how the characters from the previous books appear in the current book. Who will you miss writing about the most? I’ll really miss writing all of the characters because they’re all different.  I had a good time writing their characters and their stories.

BOOK REVIEW – Forever with You (Wait for You #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Synopsis: Some things you just believe in, even if you've never experienced them. For Stephanie, that list includes love. It's out there. Somewhere. Eventually. Meanwhile she's got her job at the mixed martial arts training center and hot flings with gorgeous, temporary guys like Nick. Then a secret brings them closer, opening Steph's eyes to a future she never knew she wanted—until tragedy rips it away. Nick's self-assured surface shields a past no one needs to know about. His mind-blowing connection with Steph changes all that. As fast as he's knocking down the walls that have kept him commitment-free, she's building them up again, determined to keep the hurt—and Nick—out. But he can't walk away. Not when she's the only one who's ever made him wish for forever . . .

Forever With You was a story that was passionate, sultry, captivating and insanely seductive.  It was perfection in my eyes.  The charm and banter that filled the pages pushed this story to a new level of sexy that I desperately search for each time I open a book.  But you want to know the best part?  When I reached that final page, I was left feeling giddy and smiley despite the fact that I cried, a lot.  I’m still on a book high and Forever With You has officially become my favorite book in the Wait For You series!

More than once I’d been accused of being standoffish and bitchy. The truth was, it wasn’t that I was mean or unfriendly.  I just generally sucked at small talk with people I didn’t know, and most important, I had a severe case of resting bitch face.

I. Loved. Stephanie!  She was confident (at times), wasn’t afraid to defend herself, and underneath it all she was genuine and sweet.  But in all honesty, I didn’t know what to think of her going into this book.  She seemed nice enough, but I kept picturing that scene where poor Teresa walks into Jase’s room and Stephanie is standing there without her shirt on.  Teresa and Jase weren’t together and Stephanie didn’t do anything wrong, but I felt horrible for Teresa.  So starting this book, Stephanie was truly an unknown since I never once had a good grasp on her.  But by page 2, I knew that she was astounding!   Her swearing skills were impressive and I loved the way she interacted with Nick!  Smiles were ensured and I found myself easily feeling every single emotion that she felt.  And that made for an amazing experience!

“…..the fact that you think I came here looking for just you insinuates that I’m desperate.  The fact that you think you can get with me after speaking to me the way you did tells me you don’t think very highly of me.  And after one night with me you think you can dictate to me where I can go and what I cannot do?  You must think I’m stupid.” His brows flew up. “Steph-” “Don’t.” I lifted a hand, stopping him.  My middle finger might have been extended as I stepped around him and snatched my purse.  “This conversation ends with a – how about you go fuck yourself.”

Nick was charismatic, charming, dark, sultry, sexy, and had a tortured past.   Sigh .  He could also go from being thoughtful and caring to the biggest ass on the face of the planet.  Nick was everything that I always want to lust after in a book boyfriend.  He was the type of man whose actions and words could be the polar opposite.  One moment he was doing something that made you want to sigh out loud and grab him by the shirt and kiss him and then in the next moment his words could be like a slap across the face.  He was a fun puzzle to figure out and I enjoyed every single moment trying to learn who Nick was.  And I know that Nick is a character that is going to stick with me for a very long time because he had that profound of an impact on me.   There was so much depth to him.  And when we got to see every single part of him, the good and the bad, it was impossible not to love the whole package.  He truly was a beautiful person, jackass and all!

His hand lingered in the space between us and then he cupped my cheek.  The move startled me as he dragged his thumb under my lip.  “It’s really a shame.” I frowned.  “What is?” “Us,” he said, his voice low as his thumb made another sweep, and my breath caught. “That you and I are the way we are.  It’s a damn shame.”

So YES I loved this book!  It was truly stunning!  I just wanted to run around my house jumping and laughing because this book was so much of everything I always want.   G ive me a heroine who I will love, give me a tortured man who will steal my breath away, give me fiery chemistry, give me a story that is all-consuming and I will fall in love with every single page.  And that I did!

BOOK REVIEW – Dream of You (Wait for You #4.5) by J. Lynn, Jennifer L. Armentrout

Synopsis: Abby Erickson isn't looking for a one-night stand, a relationship, or anything that involves any one-on-one time, but when she witnesses a shocking crime, she's thrust into the hands of the sexiest man she's ever seen - Colton Anders. His job is to protect her, but with every look, every touch, and every simmering kiss, she's in danger of not only losing her life but her heart also.

I was the kind of woman who got the guy in the books. But not in real life. Never in real life.

Dream of you was a playful book that I devoured way too quickly.  It had elements of intensity, sexiness and reality laced throughout the pages, which made for such an enjoyable read!  Abby and Colton were people that I easily became attached to and cared for deeply.  They were a wonderful addition to the Wait For You Series!  And while I may be wrong, this book felt as though it was the sexiest in the series!  And that’s saying a lot, since it was only a little over 100 pages long.  Or maybe it was because there was so much crammed into such a short story.  But looking back over Dream of You, I love how the banter and sex scenes were written.  They were scorching hot from the beginning until the end!

Oh goodness, I had only ever read about men staring at women in a way that it felt like a physical touch before. I hadn’t really believed it possible. It was.

Abby is a character that you must meet!  She was a breath of fresh air and so many people will be able to find little pieces of themselves in her.  That’s because not only does she fan-girl about books/authors that we’ve heard of, which was amazing, but she was self-conscious about her body.   She definitely didn’t have the best self esteem in the world, and I have rarely seen that portrayed in books that I’ve read.  It was interesting listening to Abby’s inner ramblings and negative comments about herself, because those are the things that so many of us do.  At times, she knew that she shouldn’t be thinking those thoughts, but she couldn’t stop them either.  But that’s not Abby’s only issue.  Four years ago her husband passed away, and in the meantime she has consumed her life with work which is editing books.  Fun!  But s ince her husband passed away, Abby hadn’t been interested in a guy, let alone thought about wanting to get naked with one.  So when Colton stepped into her world, her insecurities flared to life.

Our gazes locked, and in an instant, a horrifying connection was formed. He saw me. I saw him. I saw him shoot someone in the face. And this man, this killer, knew that.

The way that Abby and Colton met was definitely not desirable.  She was a witness to a homicide, and Colton was one of the detectives at the police station that was to interview her.   The moment that he stepped into the room, I fell all over him.  Because Colton is another male, in a long line of guys that Jennifer Armentrout has created, that I am in love with!  He was protective, sexy, sweet, caring and did I say sexy?  I loved his brother Reece, in Fall With Me, and Colton was every bit as desirable!  There has to be something in their blood, because any words that would spill out of Colton’s mouth made me want to throw myself at him.  Want to see proof?  Nicknames or terms of endearment can easily rub me the wrong way, I know, I know, I can be way too picky.  And I never thought that I would be a fan of honey, but when it came sailing out of Colton’s mouth, it was perfection!

Closing my eyes, I exhaled softly. “You want to see me, but I’m not sure you really want to. I don’t look like—” “I know what you look like,” he said, his voice low as his gaze met and held mine. “I have two eyes and I’ve been checking you out often. Enough that it would probably make you uncomfortable if you knew. I fucking adore what I see.” He drew my hand to his groin, folding my palm over the rigid length. “I want what I see.”

So even though this book flies by way too fast, it is a definite must read for fans of the Wait For You series!   The sparks between Abby and Colton, even during a basic conversation, were hot, hot, hot!  I loved it!  Oh, and I can’t forget Abby’s dirty thoughts.  The things that would pop into her head, my gosh, she had me giggling and covering my mouth while shaking my head no way.  I loved her!   So please do yourself a favor and pick up this book!  So much fun and sexiness is packed into such a quick story, and I loved every minute of it!

BOOK REVIEW – Fall with Me (Wait for You #4) by J. Lynn, Jennifer L. Armentrout

Synopsis: Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice. Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already. But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

Fall With Me was fun, sexy and charming!  I always enjoyed the scenes in the previous book with Roxy.  She worked at the bar that is owned by Jax and was a true friend to Calla.  She helped her out and always came across as funny and cute.  But I noticed every time that Reece, who is a cop and friend of Jax, would enter the bar, Roxy would try her hardest to avoid him.  I wanted to get to the bottom of what happened between the two of them.   And my oh my, the details of their past was shocking, fun, and I was rooting for them the whole time!

I wasn’t going to think about any hard things, unless those hard things were a part of Reece’s anatomy. I smacked a hand over my mouth, but a giggle escaped nonetheless.

Roxy and Reece are childhood friends who seemed to take it too far one night.  Their past has haunted the both of them, but for entirely different reasons.  But not everything can stay in the past forever.  Especially when you have their chemistry!  Their banter was scorching hot!  Heck,  even when they were in the same room together, it was beyond clear that they belonged together.

One never knew when their life was about to be irrevocably altered. There was no warning. If anything, it always came when everything was calm and good.

But while the story may sound light and happy, muahahaha, it is not!   Fall With Me has a subtle creepiness to it that sneaks into the pages. It started to make me second guess the noises I was hearing and my surroundings.  Of course I read this book at night, which was the wrong decision.   That lingering creepy feeling had me walking around my dark house just so I could check my doors and windows to verify that yes everything was locked.  Because I knew that paranoid feeling wouldn’t go away until I was certain that nothing could touch me.  But after checking my house, that feeling didn’t go away.  That’s because I kept thinking that this could happen to anyone. To you or me.  And that was insanely unsettling.

“No. Seriously. That’s not a ‘nothing.’ I don’t ever want to hear my sister’s name and the word pole in the same sentence that involves dancing.” Cam glanced at Katie, wielding a slotted spatula, causing Jacob to sidestep a spittle of grease. “No offense.” She shrugged a shoulder . “None taken. Only the few and the proud can handle it.” I scrunched my nose. “Isn’t that the Marines’ motto?” “Yes,” sighed Reece.

In the mix was also all of the characters that I have fallen in love with in the previous books.  I loved watching them interact with Roxy and Reece!  And while all of that was fun, one of my favorite things about this book was Reece.   Reece was crazy sexy.  He was demanding yet caring.  He was protective yet understanding.  He was one of those take charge guys who could easily make you melt.  And when Roxy described his SWAT team outfit, oh my gosh.  Soooo hot.  Unbelievably hot.

So of course I had fun reading this book.   I quickly flew though the pages.  Friends, humor, sexiness and hot scenes?  Yes please!  But there was an undercurrent of seriousness that was within this story.  And now that I’ve had a day to think about it,  I am so glad this issue was present in Fall With Me.  Because it seems as though so many books gloss over the seriousness of this issue or portray it as something that you should desire.  But in real life, it isn’t.  At all.   I am so thankful that I read Roxy and Reece’s story, and I hope that they make appearances in the future books in this series.  Especially if Reece is wearing his SWAT uniform!

BOOK REVIEW – Be With Me (Wait For You #2) by J. Lynn

BOOK REVIEW – Be With Me (Wait For You #2) by J. Lynn

Synopsis: Do Teresa and Jase have a real shot at getting together or will life get in the way? Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she's in love with her big brother's best friend, but he hasn't spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, life-changing kiss. Then she got out of a terrible relationship. Now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It's time for plan B: college. And maybe she'll have a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real. Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he's not telling anyone—especially not his best friend's incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn't have time for a relationship. But it doesn't help that all he can think about is kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him. As they're thrown together more and more, Jase and Teresa can't keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they're willing to risk to be together and what they're willing to lose if they're not. . . .

I love the way J. Lynn books make me feel! They are sweet, sensual and have just enough angst to drive me the right kind of crazy. The second installment had me nervous, because how in the world can anyone live up to Cam and his cookies and eggs?! But you know what? Jase did an exceptional job. He brought cupcakes to Tess, yes cupcakes. I’m a sucker for cupcakes, and each time that happened I kept falling for him more and more. Well, when he wasn’t being his grumpy shut-down self, but more on that later! Be With Me was another exceptional book in the Wait For You series, and I loved each and every moment of Jase and Tess’ story.

“I mean, do you believe that some things are just meant to happen?” He murmured as he dropped his head and his lips brushed my neck. Another strangled gasp parted my lips. “Like no matter what you do, what you tell yourself, things are just going to happen? Some things I don’t think you can stop.”

Being Tess, well, it’s kind of complicated right now. After injuring her knee, she is stuck going to college where her brother Cam goes. It’s only temporary, and while it’s frustrating as hell, there is one benefit of having her dreams momentarily de-railed. Jase Winstead. Her brother’s best friend. They kissed when she was 16 years old and heaven help her, but she hasn’t ever been able to get him out of her head. She compares all other kisses to him, and sadly none have ever live up to that one blissful moment. Since then, Jase has been avoiding her. But with them going to the same school, there’s no way he can keep running away. And she’s right, because even during her first tour of the new town, she gets to drop by with her brother to see Jase. But she’s about to learn that Jase can flip from hot to cold in the blink of an eye, and being around him will be one confusing ride.

He looked away, shaking his head. “You don’t get it, Tess. I can’t have you.” “But you do have me,” I whispered, and then clamped my mouth shut. Did I just say that? Horrified, I could only stare as his eyes widened. Oh my God, I did just say that out loud.

I loved Tess. Her inner thoughts were absolutely hilarious. She constantly had me cracking up and I loved the way she saw the world. She had a smart mouth, a huge heart and she knew what she wanted and wasn’t going to compromise for anything less. Probably my favorite thing about her was her reactions to Jase’s sexiness. His comments and actions had me grinning like a loon and her reactions were exactly how I would react, I loved it!

Jase – “Keep saying my name.” His fingers bit into my skin, eliciting a hiss of pleasure from me. “And I’ll never stop. I swear to you.”

Jase was toe curling and smile inducing. Even when he was being the biggest jerk on the planet, I still couldn’t get enough of him. Although his douche-bag jerkiness isn’t excusable, that boy has a whole jeep load of baggage. It continually haunted him and while he was fighting his inner demons, he became the King of hot and cold to Tess! His sexy self would be intoxicating one instant and in the next he would be utterly intolerable. His whiplash feelings towards Tess drove me crazy. I just wanted to shake him and fix him. But when Jase was being good, oh wow, he was amazing. He was mind-blowing sweet and thoughtful. The cupcakes and all of the little things he did for her View Spoiler » finding something that made her feel like she was flying again, tucking her in, bringing her chicken noodle soup, picking her up from school « Hide Spoiler  made my heart completely melt and fall for Jase hard.

Jase – “You know, I’ve tried staying away from you. I’ve tried ignoring how I feel about you, which isn’t how I should feel. But it’s like fighting a losing battle. And I don’t want to fight it anymore. I don’t want to ignore this.”

I had so much fun watching Jase and Tess’ story unfold. Having a smile on my face while I’m laughing, being giddy and nervous always means that I have fallen for a book. And I adored this book through and through.
