presentation for 14th august

14th August, is our INDEPENDENCE DAY and it means a day when we had got freedom not only from our ruthless rulers but freedom from humiliation. At this day we got our own identity and our own valves. Pakistan came into being in 1947 as a sovereign state. 14th August is a day when, efforts of our national heroes are appreciated and celebrated and a day when we get our name and respect. Being Muslims we have our own values, traditions and religion. We Muslims celebrate this day with complete satisfaction and pleasure of being in a separate region where we enjoy freedom of living in every way. Pakistan is a democratic parliamentary federal Islamic republic state. Pakistan has its four provinces, Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The day is a national holiday in Pakistan and is celebrated all over the country with flag raising ceremonies, tributes to the national heroes and fireworks taking place in the capital, Islamabad. President and prime minister delivers speeches and in the speech, the leaders highlight the achievements of the government, goals set for the future and in the words of the father of the nation, Quaid-i-Azam, bring "Unity, Faith and Discipline" to its people. Day starts with flag raising ceremonies in the Capital city Islamabad and so in all major cities in Pakistan. March parade and exchange of guard’s ceremonies takes place on the Quaid-i-Azam’s mausoleum.

People of Pakistan, on this national holiday visit national monuments like MINAR-e-PAKISTAN which fully lit to commemorate the independence of Pakistan from the British Empire. At WAHGA-BORDER flag raising ceremonies takes place while everybody stands quiet and motionless in the honor of "NATIONAL ANTHEM" after that, military parade gets stars.

Names of people like Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Sir Syed Ahmad Khan are always written in golden words in the history of Pakistan. Muhammad Ali Jinnah also known as Quaid-e-Azam is the real founder of Pakistan. Allama Iqbal, with his enthusiastic poetry, motivated Muslims to think and earn their own nationality and name in the world. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, brought Muslim nation forward and made schools and colleges for Muslims so that they may come to know how to fulfill the latest demands of the advance age.

People gave sacrifices of their lives for independence because they could not follow Islam independently and could not perform their religious duties properly in sub – continent. They were punished or disturbed when they perform their religious duties. It offended Muslims but as they were weak nation, they could not do anything. Pakistan came into being after the sacrifices of countless lives. Many of our ancestors lost their lives only for the freedom of their imminent generations, for the sake of independent land where all the Muslims can offer their religious duties with their own wish and freedom.

As citizens of free Pakistan, we must reflect on the values and principles which were in the minds and hearts of those who fought and sacrificed for our freedom. They portrayed inspiration from the values nurtured in the country through ages. Now we are living as an independent nation, which is enjoying all the beauties, charismas of their own homeland. Being an independent and self-respective nation, it’s our duty to serve our country with our best. We should work whole heartedly and with complete devotion for the development of our beloved homeland, we should not forget the sacrifices of our ancestors and national leaders whole made this land happen as an unrestricted territory for us to live. It’s the time to work with that passion which was in the bloods of our national heroes who fought for our freedom; it’s the time for the strong commitment with us for the betterment of our holy land. We should not compromise on our integrity and would not let our freedom and integrity being used by other dominant powers in the world. At this independent day let we rethink about our plans, our actions and their outcomes. We all should pray at this day of best for our pious land and promise ourselves that we would not let any harm on it and will work for its defense till the day of our last breath.

God bless our sacred land, God bless our Pakistan! Ameen. Happy Independence Day

Pakistan Independence Day – August 14, 2025

Pakistan Independence Day on August 14 could be considered a double day of liberation. Muslim Indians also fought to be free of British rule and later re-armed to battle for their own nation-state, present day Pakistan —  once part of the Indian subcontinent. After the British put down the Indian Rebellion of 1857, the Crown assumed full control during the British Raj period. This lasted until Pakistan’s independence in 1947.  The Mountbatten Plan split Pakistan (comprised of West and East Pakistan) from India, creating an independent Muslim nation. In 1971, East Pakistan gained its own independence, becoming known as Bangladesh.  Today, West Pakistan is known simply as Pakistan.

The main Independence Day ceremony ceremony is organized in Islamabad, where the national flag is hoisted at the Parliament and Presidency buildings. This is follow up by the national anthem and widely circulated and televised speeches by the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Pakistan Independence Day is a National Holiday in Pakistan.

2021 marks the 74th Independence Day for the country.

When is Pakistan Independence Day 2025?

“Unity, Faith, and Discipline” is the guiding principle and national motto of Pakistan. The country celebrates its Independence Day on August 14.

History of Pakistan Independence Day

The creation of Pakistan is an astounding one, and quite a unique occurrence in modern history.

Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh were originally part of one giant territory called the Indian subcontinent. Ever since the religion of Islam was introduced and embraced in the subcontinent, peace was disturbed due to clashes and the oppression of Muslims by Hindus. To safeguard the Muslim minority, intellectual thought and philosophies were set into motion after the War of Independence in 1857.

The circumstances were not in favor of the Muslim community but, with courage and faith, the downtrodden Muslims residing in the subcontinent were successful in actualizing their dreams of freedom. In 1906, the All-India Muslim League was founded and, on October 1 the same year, the first delegation of 36 Muslim leaders presented their demand to the viceroy of India at Simla for a separate state for Muslims.

The concept of Pakistan and liberation for Muslims would have remained a pipe dream, had it not been for one man’s superhuman efforts and struggle to make it a reality. Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a barrister and politician, who later on became the father of the nation of Pakistan. Jinnah was the leader of the All-India Muslim League from 1913 onwards, until Pakistan’s independence.

Allama Muhammad Iqbal was another visionary who propelled the idea of the separation of Muslims from India. In his presidential address on December 29, 1930, at Allahabad, Iqbal proposed the idea. The Allahabad Address is now revolutionary in history. The name ‘Pakistan’ first appeared in a pamphlet called “Now Or Never” in 1933.

It was quite a big day in history. Prominent Muslim leaders from all over India attended the session, and there was finally a legitimate solution to the centuries-old struggle of Muslims to gain sovereignty and freedom. On February 20, 1947, the turning point happened when British Prime Minister Clement Attlee made an announcement to grant India complete self-governance by June 1948. After multiple consultations with the British government and Congress leaders, the last viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten, released the ‘June Plan.’

Both India’s Congress and the Muslim League welcomed Mountbatten’s plan. In July 1947, the British parliament introduced the Indian Independence Act. Separate provisional governments were established for Pakistan and India on July 20. Finally, the great subcontinent of British India was partitioned into the two countries of India and Pakistan on August 14, 1947.

The partition was full of bloodshed and carnage. Since the inception of the idea of a separate nation for Muslims, Hindu brutality intensified and there was great opposition to Jinnah and the rest of the Muslim leaders’ ideas to create a sovereign identity for Muslims. Lineages and families were destroyed and tales of partitions are still collected and archived today.

“You are free; you are free to go to your temples. You are free to go to your mosques or to any other places of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion, caste or creed — that has nothing to do with the business of the state.” ― Muhammad Ali Jinnah

Pakistan Independence Day timeline

The Government of India Act results in the British Crown assuming direct control over much of the Indian subcontinent, including the areas known today as Bangladesh and Pakistan.

It's the end of the British Raj (the period of British rule over India, beginning in 1858) and, in the aftermath, divisions in the subcontinent results in Pakistan's hard-fought win in gaining independence.

The founding leader of Pakistan, Muhammed Ali Jinnah, dies.

Pakistan transitions from a dominion to a republic, officially becoming known as the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Why Pakistan Independence Day is Important

Independence means celebration.

Countries around the world have fought hard to win freedom and status as independent nations. The Pakistanis not only fought for independent sovereignty but they also battled for religious freedom. On Pakistan Independence Day, Pakistanis celebrate their many personal, religious and national freedoms.

Muhammad Ali Jinnah led the fight for independence

Several key leaders pushed for Pakistani independence — Muhammad Ali Jinnah being key among them. Jinnah, Karachi-born and London-trained as a barrister, became an organizing voice for independence in Pakistan as part of the Indian National Congress during the early years of the last century. Later, Jinnah helped to form coalitions fighting for Pakistan to be an independent Muslim nation-state. Today Muhammad Ali Jinnah is revered as the first governor-general of Pakistan, who was instrumental in shaping the country's policies and priorities after independence.

Religious freedom is guaranteed under the constitution

Imagine being forbidden to practice your religion because it's illegal. Pakistan Independence Day marks gratitude for the nation's Muslims because their right to freely practice Islam is guaranteed under their constitution. But in Pakistan today, there are several Muslim sects, as well as other religious minorities, who face persecution and daily threats of violence or death.

14 August Speech in English for Pakistan Independence Day

Today I am going to consecrate my words to my homeland in the form of a 14 August Speech in English for Pakistan Independence Day. “14th August” is the day of the Independence of Pakistan and the day to stand up together singing the national anthem and raising the sound proclaiming that ‘we are Pakistani’. Yes of course! This is a devotional day for all Pakistani nationals not only in Pakistan but also for those Pakistanis who are sitting in abroad countries. The reason is that Pakistan is our unique recognition on the map of the world. The reason is before the formation of a separate country for sub-continental Muslims; no one respects the real religious rights of Muslims. One of the big issues between Hindus and Muslims was the difference between their living styles, their rituals, their foods as well as their litanies. If Muslims use to eat cow meat the Hindus use to adore the cow. Muslims bow before Allah and Hindus bow before stones (Baghwan). Moreover, Hindus were superior in amount while Muslims were few and helpless. So in these hurdles, one man sees a dream of Independence and aims to make his dream come true. So, after a lot of effort and sacrifices, Pakistan came into being.

The one who saw the dream of Pakistan was Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal (The Poet of the East). At that time Muhammad Ali Jinnah (Quaid-e-Azam) was a student and a member of the Indian National Congress. But after listing this dream and when he realized that Congress was just supporting Hindus and neglecting Muslims, he joined the All India Muslim League. The entrance of this hero to this party was a massive turnaround for Muslims.

Sir Syed Ahmed Khan did a great job. Sir Syed advised Muslims to learn English so that the British can understand that they are not against them. He organized schools and colleges where Muslims were independently allowed to take admitted and study English. Afterwards, when Muslims got educated they were allowed to apply for jobs. Through this, Muslims were able to get jobs and it helped them a lot.

At the start, Muhammad Ali Jinnah was in supporting the narrative that the British should leave the country and give it to Muslims and Indians who can live here in peace. But later he realized that it is impossible for them to live together. So, he raised his voice for the separation of both nations and demanded the British to leave the country and before leaving, divide both nations and make two countries for them. Following continues hard work and sacrifices, Pakistan came into existence in 1947. On the 14th of August, a new country came into existence and it is called Pakistan. When it was announced that all the Muslims of Sub Continent will migrate from India to Pakistan, Hindus start killing them openly. But in the end, Muslims got their homeland.

  • The creation of Pakistan on 14th Aug. 1947 was the culmination of a struggle that began in 1857 to overthrow British rule over the subcontinent.

  • The British came to subcontinent in 17th century for the purpose of trade and merchandising.
  • Soon they displaced the Mughal Muslim rulers, who had been in the power of 650 years.
  • Prior to Muslim rulers, the Hindus and British rulers the original tribes and Dravidians, were ruling the region.
  • Many cultures and races have been involved in shaping the destiny of this region.
  • Hence, its important to understand the history of the subcontinent in order to appreciate how and how Pakistan was created.
  • Preaching of Christianity
  • Lard Macuaulys education system
  • Sex was considered in civil law rather then in criminal law
  • The title of King after Bahadur Shah Zafar was abolished by British.
  • Rules were dictated by British
  • Unemployment
  • Ancient Times
  • The history of sub-continent started off way back to Stone Age.
  • This was an age of hunting and gathering
  • Though there was some elementary agriculture.
  • The Stone age is followed by Indus valley civilization (3000 to 3500 BC)
  • Thousands years ago the part of India was called the Indus Valley civilization
  • The Indus River is the site of one of the earliest appearances of civilization.
  • It contained two major civilization Mohenjo Daro and Harappa which may date to 3500 BC.
  • This was the period of sophisticated agriculture, trade and commerce, art and architecture, cities and buildings, religion and rites.
  • The Indus Valley civilization is also known as Harappan culture because Harappa, which was discovered by accident, was the first city to be excavated by archeologists.
  • Cotton is known to have been grown in India as early as 3,000 BC, but was almost certainly grown much earlier.
  • Ancient Indians are known to have worn brightly colored clothes. The early Indus River culture is the least studied of the five great river valley cultures
  • The civilization encompassed about 2,000 towns and villages, many of which were mathematically planned.
  • These are the world's first planned cities. The largest city was Mohenjo-Daro. The people lived in baked mud brick houses two and three stories high, and had sewage systems.
  • Each home had its own private drinking well and its own private bathroom. Clay pipes led from the bathrooms to sewers located under the streets.
  • Some scholars are convinced that Indus cities did not develop slowly over time. This suggests whoever built these cities seems to have developed the mathematics and technology in some other place.
  • The basis of the economy as the other river valley civilizations was agriculture.
  • The Indus people used irrigation to water their fields. The main crops were barley, wheat, and a variety of vegetables and fruits.
  • Animals, including the long-horned, humped bull, were domesticated. Cotton appears to have been the principal plant used for clothing. It was woven and dyed.
  • Wheel-made clay was made and decorated with animal and geometric motifs. Illustration of fish on the seals suggest that fishing was an important part of the economy.
  • The long-horned bull was a central image in the Indus culture and interestingly remains important in subsequent Indian iconography
  • The Indus people were a bronze Age culture. Copper and bronze were in use. They used bronze tools.
  • Some scholars believe that they may have acquired bronze technology from the Sumerians.
  • They did not, however, develop iron technology. The Indus people were also traders, trade was carried out through the sea.
  • The Dravidians
  • This very civilization was followed by the Indus Valley civilization.
  • It was said that this civilization was coexisted within the Indus Valley civilization
  • They had high degree of culture, with a religion and established Social Institutions.
  • The Aryans invaded subcontinent around 1500 BC. (Originally from central Asia and entered from Subcontinent from the North-West.
  • Traveled from Sapta Sindhu or the Seven Rivers, in the area from Kabul to Jumna Rivers.
  • Aryans continued their advance eastward, conquering a large part of the Ganges Plain and later crossing the Vindiyas to enter the Deccan Plateau.
  • Aryans referred to conquering Dravidians and native tribe of Indus civilization
  • They were farmers by nature
  • They worshiped natural phenomena
  • The religious rituals of Aryans were derived from Dravidians and later it resulted in Hinduism
  • Polytheistic religion
  • They believe in cast and categories
  • That all cast are determine from birth not through ones achievement in life.
  • At that time subcontinent was divided into different sub-political units. (Many kingdom)
  • The largest Hindu kingdom was establish during the regime of King Ashoka (250 B.C)
  • At the battle of Kalinga it was thought that Ashoka embrace Buddhism.
  • Even at that time Hinduism wasnt dominant religion.
  • 6th century Introduction of new religion Buddhism
  • This religion was contrary to Hinduism believes of cast system
  • Thought they established their own independent regions in subcontinent but couldnt survive.
  • The establishment of Muslim society in subcontinent was due to 3 elements.
  • Arab Traders
  • Arab had trade and business relations with the inhabitants of subcontinents
  • Many Arab traders had their own resorts and properties in subcontinents for the purpose of trade
  • After advent of Islam in 610 entire Arab converted to Islam
  • Arab traders also converted to Islam.
  • Its being said that, their humble behavior was one of the reason that why people in subcontinent converted to Islam
  • The inhabitants of Malabar (Karalla), Kolaam (Traquor), Gujarat (Kathiyawar) also converted to Islam
  • Along with trading the Arabs also preached about Islam
  • Newly converted professor T.W Arnold wrote in his book that, Samari (The last King of Malabar) got inspired from the group of Muslims on the visit to Sri Lanka
  • However the advent of Muslim society in Sindh was initiated by Muhammad Bin Qasims invasion
  • 1. Root cause of invading Sindh
  • - After the successful invasion of Iran during the Khilafat of Hazrat Umer (R.A) the Arabs came across to the rulers of Sindh.
  • - Until the condition of Arabs (In terms of trade) weren't deteriorated the idea of attacking Sindh was not given serious consideration.
  • The rule of Sindh Raja Dahir being famous for his cruelness.
  • In 703 the fire of invading Sindh reached to maximum when the inhabitants of Sindh murdered the Governor of Makraan and approached towards Sindh for shelter
  • In reaction of this very act, Hijaaj-bin-yousuf questioned of sending back to the culprits, which was rejected from Raja Dahir
  • This led to conflict among Arabs and Sindh administration
  • 2. The plunder of Arabs by inhabitants of Sindh
  • In Sri Lanka, the Arab (traders) residents died. In condolence, the King sent gifts to orphans, widows to Hijaaj Bin Yousuf for Banomia Walid-Bin-Abdul Malik (Khalifa-e-Islam)
  • Near Thatha the entire travelers were looted by naval robbers.
  • Hijaaj Bin Yousuf questioned on this very act to Raja Dahir, the reply given to Hijaaj Bin Yousuf was disappointed.
  • The planning of taking over Sindh was started from this particular point
  • Hijaaj Bin Yousuf finally decided to take over Sindh through the help of Muhammad Bin Qasim
  • Muhamamd Bin Qasim defeated Raja Dahir in battles of Debal and Raward
  • As the large no of man died in battle so women burned themselves according to the Hindu customs
  • Though he kept taking over the possession of areas such as Barhama Abad, Ayloor (near Rohrdi), then Multan
  • The inhabitants of Multan fought for 2 months at last they lost and the entire possession of Multan handed over to Muhammad Bin Qasim
  • Thouhg he could have conquered more if the new Governor of Banomiya weren't sent him to imprisonment
  • He ruled Sindh for about 3 years.
  • It was said that he gave religious rights to all peoples.
  • The civil security and religious rights were guaranteed, as he said that your temples will be safe and secure as all others religious groups.
  • It was said that his humble behavior was the reason locals converted to Islam even though they were free to spent their life according to their religion.
  • In his 33 years tenure he molest subcontinent 17 times with immaculate success.
  • Defeated the rulers of Kangdra, Mithar, Thanseer, Kanooj and Somnaat
  • In 1027 Punjab become the part of Mahmood Gaznavis state and how Lahore became the centre of Islamic culture.
  • History written in Pakistan had been dictated by the ruling establishment
  • The nation could not hope to make any real progress, unless distortion were removed.
  • We project our leaders actions out of proportion, in terms of abandoning their black and white
  • Modern history is leading on the same path
  • Historians like Dr Ishtiaq Hussain Qureshi, S.M. Ikram and Moinul Haq wrote history, as dictated by dictators
  • Some historians negated our ancient Indian and South Asian roots and tried to establish our links with Central Asia or with the Middle East
  • Gen Ayub in fact replaced the subject of history in school curriculum with social studies and the history departments of the universities in the country accordingly produced textbooks which contained articles by pro-Establishment writers

Like India , Pakistan achieved independence from British rule as a dominion within the Commonwealth on August 14-15, 1947, the former day celebrated annually as the country’s Independence Day . However, the leaders of the Muslim League rejected Lord Mountbatten , the last British viceroy of India, to be Pakistan’s first governor-general, or head of state—in contrast to the Congress, which made him India’s chief executive . Wary of Britain’s machinations and desirous of rewarding Jinnah—their “Great Leader” (Quaid-e Azam), a title he was given before independence—Pakistanis made him their governor-general; his lieutenant in the party, Liaquat Ali Khan , was named prime minister . Pakistan’s first government, however, had a difficult task before it. Unlike Muhammad Iqbal’s earlier vision for Pakistan, the country had been formed from the two regions where Muslims were the majority—the northwestern portion he had espoused and the territories and the eastern region of Bengal province (which itself had also been divided between India and Pakistan). Pakistan’s two wings, therefore, were separated by some 1,000 miles (1,600 km) of sovereign Indian territory with no simple routes of communication between them. Further complicating the work of the new Pakistani government was the realization that the wealth and resources of British India had been granted to India. Pakistan had little but raw enthusiasm to sustain it, especially during those months immediately following partition. In fact, Pakistan’s survival seemed to hang in the balance. Of all the well-organized provinces of British India, only the comparatively less developed areas of Sind , Balochistan , and the North-West Frontier Province came to Pakistan intact. The otherwise more developed provinces of Punjab and Bengal were divided, and, in the case of Bengal, Pakistan received little more than the densely populated rural hinterland .

Recent News

Adding to the dilemma of the new and untested Pakistan government was the crisis in Kashmir , which provoked a war between the two neighbouring states in the period immediately following their independence. Both Pakistan and India intended to make Kashmir a component of their respective unions, and the former princely state quickly became disputed territory—with India and Pakistan controlling portions of it—and a flash point for future conflicts. Economically, the situation in Pakistan was desperate; materials from the Indian factories were cut off from Pakistan, disrupting the new country’s meagre industry, commerce, and agriculture. Moreover, the character of the partition and its aftermath had caused the flight of millions of refugees on both sides of the divide, accompanied by terrible massacres. The exodus of such a vast number of desperate people in each direction required an urgent response, which neither country was prepared to manage, least of all Pakistan.

As a consequence of the unresolved war in Kashmir and the communal bloodletting in the streets of both countries, India and Pakistan each came to see the other as its mortal enemy. The Pakistanis had anticipated a division of India’s material, financial, and military assets. In fact, there would be none. New Delhi displayed no intention of dividing the assets of British India with its major adversary, thereby establishing a balance between the two countries. Moreover, India’s superior geopolitical position and, most importantly, its control of the vital rivers that flowed into Pakistan meant that the Muslim country’s water supplies were at the mercy of its larger, hostile neighbour. Pakistan’s condition was so precarious following independence that many observers believed the country could hardly survive six months and that India’s goal of a unified subcontinent remained a distinct possibility.

The early republic

Mohammed Ali Jinnah died in September 1948, only 13 months after Pakistan’s independence. Nevertheless, it was Jinnah’s dynamic personality that sustained the country during those difficult months. Assuming responsibility as the nation’s chief and virtually only decision maker, Jinnah held more than the ceremonial position of his British counterpart in India. But there too lay a special problem. Jinnah’s formidable presence, even though weakened by illness, loomed large over the polity, and the other members of government were totally subordinate to his wishes. Thus, although Pakistan commenced its independent existence as a democratic entity with a parliamentary system , the representative aspects of the political system were muted by the role of the Quaid-e Azam. In effect, Jinnah—not India’s Mountbatten—perpetuated the viceregal tradition that had been central to Britain’s colonial rule. Unlike India, where Gandhi opted to remain outside government and where India’s prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru , and the parliament administered to the country, in Pakistan the parliament and members of the governing cabinet were cast in a subordinate role.

presentation for 14th august

When Jinnah died, a power vacuum was created that his successors in the Muslim League had great difficulty filling. Khwaja Nazimuddin, the chief minister of East Bengal, was called on to take up the office of governor-general. Known for his mild manner, it was assumed Nazimuddin would not interfere with the parliamentary process and would permit the prime minister to govern the country. Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan, however, lacked the necessary constituency in the regions that formed Pakistan. Nor did he possess Jinnah’s strength of personality. Liaquat therefore was hard put to cope with entrenched and vested interests, particularly in regions where local leaders dominated. Jinnah had worked hard to mollify competing and ambitious provincial leaders, and Liaquat, himself a refugee ( muhajir ) from India, simply did not have the stature to pick up where Jinnah had left off.

Liaquat was eager to give the country a new constitution, but such an undertaking was delayed by controversy, particularly over the distribution of provincial powers and over representation. Although what had been East Bengal (and became East Pakistan) contained the majority of Pakistan’s population, the Punjab nevertheless judged itself the more significant of the Pakistani provinces. The Punjabis had argued that East Bengal was populated by a significant number of Hindus whose loyalty to the Muslim country was questionable. Any attempt therefore to provide East Bengal with representation commensurate to its population would be challenged by the Punjab. Although Jinnah had voiced the view that Muslims, Hindus, Christians, and all religious denominations were equal citizens in the new Pakistani state, Liaquat could not neutralize this controversy, nor could he resolve the issue of provincial representation. Forced to sell his vision to the people of Pakistan directly, Liaquat engaged in a number of public speaking engagements, and it was at such a meeting, in Rawalpindi in October 1951, that he was killed by an assassin’s bullet.

Home ministry notifies August 14 as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day'

Pm modi announced on saturday that august 14 will now be observed as 'partition horrors remembrance day'. many union ministers and bjp leaders welcomed the announcement. the home ministry issued a notification later in the day in which the announcement was made part of gazette notification..

The Government of India on Saturday declared August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, after an announcement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The gazette notification was issued by the Union home ministry.

Lord Mountbatten discloses Britain's partition plan for India at a conference in New Delhi.

"The Government of India declares 14th August as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to remind the present and future generations of Indians of the pain and suffering faced by the people of India during the partition," the notification said.

Earlier on Saturday, PM Modi announced that August 14 will now be observed as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' in memory of the struggles and sacrifices of people.

The Prime Minister noted that millions of people were displaced and many lost their lives due to the mindless hate and violence caused by the Partition.

Many Union ministers and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders welcomed the announcement. Union home minister Amit Shah congratulated PM Modi for his "sensitive decision" while asserting that the wound of Partition and the grief of losing loved ones cannot be described in words.

The ministry of information and broadcasting said 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' will be a fitting tribute to all those who lost their lives due to the Partition of the nation and were displaced from their roots.

Declaration of such a day would remind the present and future generations of Indians of the pain and suffering faced by the people during the partition, it said.

Pakistan was carved out as a separate country after the Partition in 1947. Millions of people were displaced and many lakhs of them lost their lives in the communal violence that followed.

India will celebrate its 75th Independence Day on Sunday.
