UPD 8101 Masters Dissertation

Description.

The candidate is required to independently develop a project brief, which addresses the most important issues in the field of planning and design, with respect to the area of specialization. The dissertation must be developed to respond to the issues raised in the project brief at an advanced level of planning philosophy, technology and spatial concepts.

The student is expected to select a topic for research, which enhances the planning and Design knowledge, and must address planning and design issues.

DISSERTATION

The course is hands-on, which empowers the students to implement research project and develop skills in developing research proposal for their dissertation.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Objective:    

  • To give the student knowledge and hands-on skills in advanced research methods with bias to health emergencies/disaster situations and to guide the student in developing proposals for research for the thesis

At the end of the course, the student should be able to: 

  • Develop a researchable project in the realm of health emergency/disaster problem;
  • Write a dissertation research proposal using principles of scientific writing;
  • Use computer software to determine appropriate sample sizes, dummy tables to guide data analysis from the research undertaken;
