Maintaining a clean and tidy classroom environment is important for a number of reasons. A clean classroom minimizes the spread of germs , prevents offending smells from lingering, and runs more smoothly overall than untidy classrooms.

Aside from health problems they can cause, your students just won't be able to do their best learning in a filthy room. Teach them strategies for maintaining a clean environment to prepare them for real life and help them thrive in school.

Get the Students Involved

Building a classroom culture that values organization and cleanliness is up to the teacher. Students should be encouraged to take care of their classroom and be held responsible for their own actions from the start.

Teaching Accountability

Rather than spending your valuable teaching time picking up garbage and tidying up after a long day, show your students the importance of individual accountability and prevent clutter from ever becoming an issue. Demonstrate that when they don't clean up after themselves, the classroom becomes too messy to learn in and nothing gets done how it should.

Make the time for a valuable lesson in cleaning. Tell the students to go a whole day without putting anything away and then meet at the end of the day to discuss the outcomes. The students will see how chaotic school can be when garbage and materials are not put away and recognize their individual parts in the process. Devote the next day to developing cleaning techniques and routines together.

Cleaning Jobs

Pass the majority of the cleaning responsibility to your students. One way to do this is to design a system of classroom jobs designated solely to the cleaning and organization of the room. Some jobs to try implementing are:

  • Beginning- and end-of-day recorder: This student will assess the state of the classroom at the beginning and end of the school day and give it a cleanliness grade. Display this somewhere for all students to see so that the class can feel pride when they do well and work toward improvement when the grade is not ideal.
  • Table monitors: The role of these students (two or three) is to keep the tops of tables and desks neat. That means returning supplies to their proper places and wiping down desks that get messy.
  • Floor scanners: The one or two students with this job keep everything off the floor that shouldn't be there. They dispose of garbage scraps and return materials such as technology and folders to the correct students so that they can quickly be put away.
  • Garbage tracker: This student helps out during snack time by gently reminding their classmates that food wrappers need to end up in the trash and lets the teacher know if the garbage cans get too full. If you would like, have this student wear a pair of gloves and help to collect trash.
  • Cleaning motivator: This student is in charge of keeping everyone's eyes on the prize. During periods of clean-up and transition, have them use a microphone to motivate their classmates to keep their areas clean, giving reminders about what needs to be done as needed.
  • Job checker/filler: This job is simply in place to make sure that the other jobs are getting done. Have them record who has done their cleaning job and who has not, filling in for anyone that is absent or unable to perform their duties.

Model each of these jobs multiple times before asking students to carry them out themselves then rotate jobs weekly so everyone gets a turn. Individual ownership will increase over time as students assume these cleaning roles and recognize the importance of everybody's actions—they will also learn to help each other out when mistakes are made. Before long, you will have more instructional time and your students will have good cleaning habits that they will carry with them forever.

Tips for Keeping the Classroom Clean

Make sure that you foster good habits outside of jobs and accountability and an environment that is conducive to keeping the class clean. Try the following strategies for ensuring that cleaning is an efficient and effective part of every day.

  • Designate cleaning times. Set routines for cleaning multiple times a day and don't allow anything to cut into these times (within reason). Your students might be inexperienced and need longer for certain tasks.
  • Have a place for everything. You can't expect your students to make sure that things are where they belong if they don't belong anywhere. Use organized bins, shelves, and cupboards to store materials and show students where every item goes.
  • Be explicit about what clean means. The concept of clean is learned, not innate, and it looks different in every home. Teach your students what clean looks like in school and don't allow wiggle room (e.g. "It seemed clean enough to me." ).
  • Give students their own space. If you are able, provide each student with a cubby and hook to call their own. These should be homes for all the stuff they will need such as folders, coats, homework, and lunch boxes.
  • Make cleaning fun. Cleaning is not naturally fun but that doesn't mean your students can't enjoy it. Play music during clean up times to make it fun and set classroom goals to work toward. For example, 50 clean days earns a pajama party.

Essay On Cleanliness – 10 Lines, Short and Long Essay for Children

Shraddha Mishra

Key Points To Remember When Writing Essay On Cleanliness For Lower Primary Classes

10 lines on cleanliness for kids, a paragraph on cleanliness for children, short essay on importance of cleanliness for kids, long essay on cleanliness for children, what will your child learn from the essay on cleanliness.

The increasing level of competition in education these days has made it crucial for young children to have strong language and vocabulary skills. One of the key pillars to strengthen the same is the activity of writing. Schools, therefore, take measures like making the students write essays and compositions on important headings like an essay on cleanliness for classes 1, 2, and 3, and several others like assignments on famous personalities, hobbies, festivals, etc. Such topics allow kids to explore and become more sensitive about their surroundings and help inculcate good habits in them. By writing about such matters, the children tend to develop good knowledge about the issues while simultaneously working on their vocabulary and language. Here is how you can help your child write a good cleanliness essay in English

Cleanliness is an indispensable value that has to be forged into children’s minds by trusted elders. Hence, it is very important to pay good attention to what you write in your essay. Here are some pointers for writing an essay on cleanliness.

  • Start your essay or paragraph with a short and crisp introduction.
  • Use simple sentences which are easy to read and deliver your ideas clearly.
  • In case of longer articles, make sure that you use an adequate number of appropriate subheadings.
  • While using multiple paragraphs, keep an eye on the continuity between the paragraphs.

The most common format of assignments for students in the lower classes is a simple one which consists of 10 sentences. Here is how to write a good 10 line essay for class 1 and 2.

  • Cleanliness is the habit of keeping the self and surroundings clean.
  • It is a very good habit which every person should practise.
  • The first and foremost step to maintain a healthy body is to maintain cleanliness.
  • Even in our school, great importance is given to keeping our classrooms clean.
  • We are appreciated when we keep it tidy and are asked to clean up when we don’t.
  • We have to throw all the garbage inside the dustbin and not litter on the floor or ground.
  • The government is also taking up measures to maintain cleanliness.
  • Our Prime Minister has also launched a campaign called ‘Swachh Bharat’.
  • The people of India must actively participate in this campaign to achieve the goal intended.
  • We should maintain cleanliness at different levels, starting from ourselves and our homes to the entire society and environment.

As the classes progress, the students must write paragraphs with good continuity between sentences. Here is one example of a simple paragraph on cleanliness for children.

Cleanliness is a value that has to be understood by every individual from a young age. This includes starting the practice of keeping oneself and surroundings clean from a young age. By doing so, we understand the importance of cleanliness and the responsibility that comes with it. Every individual must actively make an effort to maintain a good level of cleanliness. It has a major impact on society and community, though it starts from home and family. Keeping the surroundings clean is also very important to remain protected from harmful diseases. Therefore, it is a good habit to maintain cleanliness.

Writing short essays is a common homework task for classes 1 and 2, and the topic of cleanliness is one of the most preferred ones. Here is a sample cleanliness essay in english in 200 words.

Cleanliness is an important virtue that has to be taken seriously by everyone. It is important to understand its importance across different forms and dimensions. Maintaining a good and clean environment, for example, can help prevent all unwanted and harmful diseases in society and add to the overall hygiene status of India. Achieving such cleanliness levels starts with us as individuals, like maintaining good personal hygiene and keeping our surroundings clean.

To achieve these goals, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has launched the popular initiative of “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. It is each invidual’s responsibility to take an interest and actively participate in this event to make it a success. Many initiatives have been implemented at different levels across the country, like homes, schools, colleges, offices, workplaces, and the general public places. Individual effort is a very important factor in the success of this program.

Apart from that, everyone should understand the necessity and importance of cleanliness for the well-being and betterment of our nation. Many organisations and actively participating volunteers have now taken it upon themselves to promote the values and importance of cleanliness and inform people how it can benefit the country and community as a whole.

Class 3 essays need to have more details. Additional factors like sentence placement and paragraph continuity come into play in this case. Take a look at this example:

As it has always been taught from a young age by elders, cleanliness is an important value that has to be nurtured. It has to be instilled in the minds of children starting from a very young age to promote the knowledge of its importance. When viewed from a bigger perspective, maintaining good hygiene and cleanliness is a good practice for oneself, the family, society, and even the community.

What Does Cleanliness Mean?

Cleanliness can be defined as the habit of keeping oneself and the environment free from all forms of impurities like dust, pollution, and more. This is a very important practice that has to be followed by all individuals to maintain good health and well-being. From a young age, we learn to stay away from any possible dirt and pollution. Cleanliness starts right here, from the budding stage.

Why Is Cleanliness Important?

Maintaining good hygiene and a decent level of cleanliness in all places and circumstances is one of the major contributors to the health of the entire community, starting with one’s home and self. This is why the importance of cleanliness has been preached meticulously beginning from the ancient days through various cultures. By taking initiatives to maintain health at such small levels, great changes can be expected in the long term. This is possible when every individual takes it upon themselves to follow the required guidelines and habits. By doing so, we help improve our country’s overall health condition and aesthetic property, which has a significant effect on the growth and development of India.

Ways To Maintain Cleanliness

The steps and methods to maintain a clean and safe environment start from the basics taught to us by our parents and teachers right from when we were infants. This could include the necessities of life, such as:

  • Brushing our teeth
  • Bathing regularly
  • Wearing clean clothes
  • Tidying the bed after waking up
  • Washing hands whenever needed
  • Clean food habits and eating practices

Apart from this, there are several active initiatives and programmes launched by our government. A good example of this is the “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. Every Indian citizen must actively take part and contribute to the same.

To wrap things up, it is about time that every resident in India starts making changes in their everyday life to help maintain a neat and clean environment. Through these tiny implementations, a huge difference can be brought about over time. We should also take measures to create awareness among the general public regarding the importance of personal hygiene and cleanliness, along with how it can affect the community.

By writing a good composition on cleanliness, your child will understand the importance of being neat, tidy, and hygienic. This is an effective way to make them realise how they can improve their daily habits and build a cleaner environment.

Cleanliness is a habit everyone must practice in their lives. It should be a way of living as it helps one lead a healthy life and drives the nation to maintain a progressive and welcoming vibe.

Don’t Have The Disgusting Classroom… How to Keep It Clean

The beginning of the year is SUCH a fun and exciting time. We have fresh supplies, clean classrooms, new books for our library, fresh notebooks for our students, sometimes even new furniture.. and GRAND ideas of how our classroom is going to be run. HOWEVER, this year, and ALL years, CLEANLINESS needs to be top of mind for the classroom.

Guide to keeping a clean elementary school classroom.

Below I outline 5 steps to set our students and ourselves up for CLEANLINESS success this year:

1. set explicit expectations for all classroom furniture.

  • Students need to know EXACTLY how to use and NOT use furniture in the classrooms. These expectations should be posted, taught, retaught and referred to when necessary. By doing this explicitly in the Fall and keeping them posted throughout the year, there is no room for confusion with students, parents, guest teachers and any guest entering the classroom.

Flexible seating expectations for elementary students.

Looking for a quick (and editable) flexible seating expectation set? Snag what I use here and or click here to read more about how I set up flexible seating in my classroom.

2. Set CLEAR expectations for ALL supplies

  • How do you want students to keep track of their pencils, glue sticks, markers, crayons, etc. this year? Set CLEAR expectations with your students, keep this posted and make time to review/help your students get organized at the beginning of the year. By starting the year off slow and taking time to go over these routines, students will know your expectations and will be more likely to continue to follow them throughout the year.

classroom cleanliness essay

Snag this EDITABLE classroom supply expectation chart set here .

3. Set ROUTINES for all activities including using the bathroom, washing hands, entering/exiting the classroom.

  • Practice, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Students need time to learn and master these routines to keep everyone safe and healthy. Start by making a list of every time students will be leaving the classroom or their seats, and write out exactly what you want that to look like. Then, review this with your students. And then… review it again! Give them time to practice and remind them throughout the year.

For example: Bathroom Routine:

  • Student Raise hand
  • Student Put on Mask
  • Student Use Hand Sanitizer
  • Student Grabs Bathroom Pass
  • Student Student Walks Quietly In Hallway
  • Student Uses Restroom
  • Student Washes Hands
  • Student Returns Bathroom Pass
  • Student Returns to Seat

You can even attach this to your bathroom pass as a constant reminder for students.

It might seem excessive, but it will pay off in the long run! For younger students, add images or keep your directions more simple.

4. Attend to SOCIAL EMOTIONAL needs.

  • Students will respect you more if they feel emotionally connected to you. They have to know you care before they will care what you are saying to them. Take time for a morning meeting. You can read more about how I run my morning meetings here .

Morning Meeting to boost social emotional learning in the elementary classroom.

5. Set aside time for cleaning each day.

  • Make a list of the days of the week and what you want deep cleaned each day.

For example:

  • Monday – Clean iPads
  • Tuesday – Clean Inside of Desk
  • Wednesday – Clean Book Bin
  • Thursday – Clean iPad
  • Friday – Clean Out Mailbox

You should also have a daily list:

  • Water Bottles
  • Personal Items

But most importantly.. students need TIME to do this. If you want it to be a priority, you have to make time for them to be successful. You will also need to provide tools for students to be successful. This might mean making sure students have plenty of Clorox Wipes or whatever cleaning supplies your school allows.

What are you implementing to make sure your students are successful in cleanliness this year?

Essay on Cleanliness | Cleanliness Essay for Students and Children in English

February 14, 2024 by Prasanna

Essay on Cleanliness: Cleanliness is the state of a room or a place that is clean and tidy. It’s one of the values which you learn from when you are a kid. You can’t force someone, to be honest, and trim; the one thing that you can do is to encourage it. Being clean and keeping your surroundings clean improves the quality of life.

Everyone needs to encourage others to keep their surroundings clean. Cleanliness doesn’t only refer to keeping your surroundings clean but also refers to keeping yourself clean and tidy. You must have heard your parents and teachers talk about cleanliness.

Long and Short Essay on Cleanliness in English for students and Kids

Below, we have provided one extended essay on cleanliness of 400-500 words and one short essay on cleanliness of 200 words.

Long Essay on Cleanliness in English 500 words

Essay on Cleanliness is suitable for students of grades 7, 8, 9, 10, and competitive exam aspirants.

There are many essential things that we need in life, like food, water, and clothes. Another thing that we need in life is cleanliness. It’s one of the things that we need to learn and make a part of our lives. Keeping our selves and surroundings clean is one of the lessons we learn from a young age.

You need to keep our surroundings clean if you want to avoid diseases. One of the things that happen if we don’t keep things fresh and tidy is that it becomes a breeding place for bugs. If you keep your environment clean, you will not fall ill. The presence of a clean environment means the absence of the possible growth of cleanliness.

If you leave things like food items out for a long time, there’s a growth of bacteria and viruses. However, if you keep throwing away things that are wrong or have expired, there won’t be any growth of bacteria and viruses. You can enjoy living your life healthy without worrying about the bacteria.

One of the things that you need to remember is that you need to keep the country clean as well. Many people think that keeping your house clean is enough. However, you need to realize that you need to keep your country clean too. Instead of thinking that it’s someone else’s responsibility, you need to take on yourself to make that you don’t contribute negatively to the country’s environment.

There are various ways in which you can keep the country clean. One of the first and most important ways is to stop littering the roads and public places. The Impact of Clean Schools on Student Success and Teacher Retention

by Julie Hogan | May 31, 2022 | Resources

classroom cleanliness essay

Proper cleaning and maintenance in schools can make a meaningful impact on educational success for both young learners and teachers. Consistent, thorough cleaning to protect against any infectious disease – not just COVID-19 but also norovirus or the flu – can enhance the success rate of everyone on campus. Taking a deeper look at how aspects of educational life are affected by great cleaning and facility maintenance can give school leaders a better understanding of what is at stake when planning for the scope of custodial and building engineering services.

CCS Facility Services Clean Schools Impact Student Success infographic

Students’ ability to focus on learning is the top priority for any educational institution. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has collected and shared dozens of studies and resources documenting the correlation between facility cleanliness – and notably air quality – and academic performance. The EPA states: “Airborne or surface-level dust affects health, and housekeeping protocols that thoroughly remove dust from surfaces have a positive impact on health.”

Teachers and other staff also face an elevated risk when educational facilities lack thorough cleaning. School staff members interact with dozens – or sometimes hundreds – of students every day, and they need to be able to work in a clean space that does not distract from educational efforts or impact anyone’s health. Clean classrooms can lead to fewer teacher sick days and therefore improved classroom continuity. Per the EPA : “Student performance also can be affected when teachers are absent due to illness.” Additionally, the National School Boards Association comments that “when schools have effective policies and practices that support the health of their students and staff, absenteeism decreases, concentration improves, and behavior problems are reduced.”

The presentation and upkeep of school buildings also play a role in how students perform in the classroom. According to studies collected between the late 90s to early 2000s , schools with backlogs on maintenance requests were found to have lower daily attendance rates, while schools that were able to perform timely upkeep saw a boost in standardized testing scores.

There is an increased understanding in recent years of the impact of proper ventilation in educational buildings. School-aged children are particularly at risk when it comes to poor air quality, with the EPA stating that “children breathe more air, eat more food and drink more liquid in proportion to their body weight than adults. Therefore, air quality in schools is of particular concern.” Improper airflow can result in both short- and long-term effects on student and teacher health. This includes headaches, coughing, eye sensitivity, and exacerbated asthma. Children are more susceptible to the latter, with one in 12 children experiencing asthma according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention . In a landmark study recently published by The Center for Green Schools , data collected during the COVID-19 pandemic shows that most K-12 schools are struggling with their indoor air quality (IAQ), noting “the most frequently cited challenge to implementing protective air quality measures at schools was that school buildings were not designed to support the strategies that were being recommended.” Understandably, factors like building structure and budgetary constraints impact a school’s ability to pursue improved air quality measures.

Cleanliness and air quality also can be a factor in teacher attrition. In a 2002 survey “Schneider, M. 2002. ‘ Public school facilities and teaching: Washington, DC and Chicago ,’ 80 percent of educators surveyed who graded their overall school conditions a “C” or below would consider changing schools, and poor air quality was cited most often for teachers’ low grades for their schools.

Schools’ main line of defense against infectious disease is the work performed by custodial staff. When considering custodial services in classrooms, cafeterias, and other shared spaces to deliver maximum cleanliness, electrostatic cleaning is an effective tool as it can disinfect large areas while evenly coating hard-to-reach surfaces.

Originating in the 1940s, usage of electrostatic disinfection methods ( such as foggers, sprayers, and vaporizers ) has grown tremendously over the COVID-19 pandemic. Check out CCS’ video on how we perform electrostatic cleaning in schools and our article on electrostatic cleaning for more information on the practice.

Finally, switching to green cleaning procedures and products can prove beneficial for staff and student health. Many chemical cleaners can be harmful to children if not stored or used properly, making use of sustainable options a great alternative for schools without sacrificing cleaning quality. In addition, eco-friendly products are less environmentally impactful with minimal cost difference. CCS Facility Services’ Director of Corporate Workplace Safety, Wellness, and Innovation, Don Buffoni, shares: “There is virtually no downside to switching to green cleaning. It is important to distinguish yourself from the property next door, and green cleaning equates to a longer life for a facility. When working with vendors who use environmentally preferred supplies, product choice is very controlled and must meet certain certifications.” Programs such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) provide roadmaps for facility managers looking to make the switch to environmentally healthier commercial cleaning practices for their campuses.

School Cleanliness: Tips for Creating a Cleaning Plan That Suits Your School

According to the Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association , 22 million school days are lost each year due to the common cold, and up to 38 million school days due to the flu. And, what’s more, the state of education in the U.S. has a severe chronic absenteeism problem which affects learning in major ways.

When you combine unhealthy habits of rising late that continue into high schoolyears, along with the necessary dentist/doctor appointments that occur, missing school quickly becomes something that just “happens.”

We Can’t Afford Any More Issues in Education

The COVID-19 pandemic that hit the U.S. in 2020 turned bad habits into everyday occurrences as children stopped going to school and learned online from home.

This culminated in a change in attitude toward missing school. Although we’ve all been given the “all clear” to return to our lives, the habit of attending school on time has been broken.

Missing just two days a month of school can be a real problem for kids in several ways. Children who are chronically absent in kindergarten and first grade are less likely to read on grade level by the third grade.

For older students, being chronically absent is closely related to leaving school for various reasons―even more than low grades or test scores. When absences add up, these students are more likely to be suspended and drop out of high school.

Children need to take absences when they are ill, of course. And a mental health day is always great when needed. So it is important to keep children well so they can use their absent days when they truly require them.

Schools have always been a breeding ground for viruses, bacteria, dirt, dust, and infections. Poor hygiene leads to teacher, student, and staff absences, costing billions of dollars to compensate.

In addition, we know that students and teachers alike require clean, organized, hygienic environments for optimum learning. When they don’t get it, parents will take their children to a different school, and teachers will leave to find greener pastures.

We now know—because we are experiencing it—that when schools fall into disarray, we lose valuable educators and childcare workers. They have the choice to work elsewhere for better wages. And parents can choose to homeschool, learn online, or even go to a different school.

Considering how much money schools lose annually due to a lack of hygiene, hiring a professional cleaning company or cleaning staff can contribute to saving money and enjoying cleaner (and successful) schools.

U.S. education is layered with issues—some that a teacher or even an administrator can’t control because a solution is beyond their reach. But cleanliness and facility management—that’s an easy win.

So check out these school cleanliness tips to help keep the entire building safe, clean, and conducive to learning.

Start With The Basics

The way to a clean school is one clean classroom at a time. Start by talking to the teachers and learn the tasks they can do to keep their classrooms and the teacher's lounge clean. Every little bit does help.

For example, the kids and teachers can set aside an hour each week to tidy up and declutter the classroom. Teachers and other staff can wash their coffee cups and glasses after use and wipe up any spillage or mess they make.

These basic rules will help you and everyone at the school maintain a good level of hygiene daily. A clean working environment will increase productivity, improve the students' and teachers' moods, instill pride, and reduce the number of absences.

Also, be sure to keep classrooms stocked with disinfectant wipes. Although they do not replace a professional cleaning that should be done nightly, they help mitigate viruses and germs.

Section Off The School

The most effective method to maintain cleanliness in school is to divide and conquer. Section off the building and make a cleaning plan for each section or by room type.

For example, you'll need one plan for all the hallways, entryways, and areas with high foot traffic. Bathrooms, classrooms, and teachers' lounges will need a thorough daily cleaning plan, while activity rooms that kids use only a few times a week will need deep cleaning after each use.

This method of planning allows you to calculate costs, hire staff, and streamline the process. For instance, if you see some sections needing more work, you can request that your facilities management company add more tasks to their regular work. Or you can choose to hire more staff and get more supplies.

Once you have this basic knowledge, you’re also able to work closely with a mature facilities management organization. You’ll be able to have a well-informed conversation with an education cleaning advisor to develop your customized plan — together.

Don't Skip Regular Disinfection

Disinfection of all surfaces, no matter how big or small, is crucial for the health and safety of students and employees. During cold and flu season,  schools are breeding grounds for bacteria and viruses , and disinfection can help reduce the number of sick people and absences.

In addition, COVID-19 is not altogether gone. Although cases have dropped and we learned much from it, that virus remains. Immunocompromised folks (teachers and kids alike) must stay vigilant.

Teachers should do regular disinfection of all surfaces in their classroom, especially doorknobs, desks, chairs, sponges, activity tools and toys, sinks, computer screens, keyboards, mice, and light switches. Cleaning staff will also be able to assist here. Because, let’s face it, we all want to go home at the end of the day, not do another hour of deep cleaning.

Cleaning staff should disinfect bathrooms, kitchens, and common areas several times a day.

Your cleaning crew and facility management team can safely handle and store supplies. Also, if your school would prefer eco-friendly cleansers, your team will be able to provide that, too.

Place Recycle and Trash Bins All Around Your Educational Facility

Kids, staff, and visitors are more likely to responsibly remove trash and recyclables if receptacles are readily available. Ensure you put recycling bins all around the school premises, both inside and outside.

There should be larger trash cans in hallways, toilets, gyms, school entrances and exits, and the schoolyard. Always ensure smaller cans are in all classrooms, designated teacher areas, and other offices.

When you put garbage cans everywhere, they'll be hard to ignore, and there will be fewer candy wrappers, chewing gum, and crumpled paper on the floor. (Although, let’s be honest, you shouldn’t see gum or candy in your school at all).

Remember to keep a type of map where all bins are located and have them emptied correctly at the end of the day. Some bins will also have to be emptied more than once a day. You’ll monitor the bins to make sure you are keeping them clean and maintained.

Once you begin working with a mature facility management company , you’ll have a partner to help you with bin waste and recycling—and much more! Not all facilities are the same, so ensure your commercial cleaning crew has customized their approach to your vision and facility layout.

Hire A Mature Facility Management Company

Although the U.S. childcare market size was valued at $60B as of 2022, the state of education in the U.S. is in crisis. With a teacher shortage and the ability of families to choose where and how their children learn, the market, especially in the private sector, is only poised to grow.

However, traditionally in the janitorial sector, turnover is high. Schools and educational institutions have often faced high turnover of their janitorial staff, and hiring and training new people is more expensive than retaining them.

There is a way to solve this problem. The most efficient and cost-effective solution for schools is hiring a modern, mature facility management company.

You can hire a team for the entire school year, on a monthly or weekly basis, and even for special school events. You'll work with trained facility management professionals with years of experience and expertise. In addition, the cleaners are trained business owners with continual oversight from OpenWorks.

OpenWorks specializes in school cleaning services with the goal of creating a healthier, safer, and better place for learning. Our dedicated team of cleaning professionals will maintain and improve the educational facilities consistently.

Create A Cleaning Schedule For The Staff

Your facilities management provider will have a schedule for each section of the school, along with the time allotted for cleaning, the supplies that are required and who is working on it. When everyone knows what they should be doing and when it's easier to keep the rooms and surfaces clean.

If you hire a professional cleaning company, no one on your staff will have to worry about making a schedule with the required details. Your team will come prepared with a plan you can agree upon together.

Raise Awareness With Students And Staff

No matter how efficient and trained your clearing staff is, you must raise awareness with the people working and studying in the building. Everyone should take care of the place by doing small things that mean a lot.

Some examples are throwing trash in the garbage instead of the floor, flushing the toilet after use, keeping the chairs and desks clean, and cleaning up after themselves. After all, teaching these items are important items for children to learn.

The school can organize workshops where teachers and cleaners will talk about the importance of hygiene, clean classrooms, washing hands often, and taking care of the school's cleanliness as a team.

You can also organize recycling and cleaning events, where school staff, teachers, kids, and parents work together on beautifying the space.

No less significant will be the description of the impact of various problems. Try to suggest ways to solve them.

Why Essays on Cleanliness Are Important?

The persistent attention of society to the achievements of science has made it a necessary part of everyday life. In this context, the issue of cleanliness plays a significant role, associating with many phenomena of a different nature. The lion’s share of the latter demonstrates the wide degree of influence of the chosen concept in different areas.

For this reason, the significance of the essay about cleanliness is largely dictated by the focus on the range of problems that arise in the context of certain events or human actions. Moreover, many papers contain the author’s unique ideas for combating these difficulties and the development of ways to prevent them.

300 Word Article on Cleanliness

The Role of Hygiene in Modern School Medicine

Educational activities are potentially hazardous to the health of children and are characterized by a significant number of risks. Often a significant proportion of the latter is due to learning conditions that do not comply with modern hygienic regulations. Equally important are technologies, modes, and teaching methods.

Cleanliness makes a significant contribution to solving the problems of protecting and strengthening the health of the younger generation. The task of the hygienist is to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of schoolchildren in educational institutions and, above all, in the field of conditions and organization of the educational process, nutrition, physical activity.

Also, the task of the doctor is to work closely with the administration of the educational organization, colleagues, and parents, using technologies to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population.

Hygienic assessment of the sanitary and epidemiological state of educational organizations is carried out with the assignment of indicators to the optimal, acceptable, and potentially dangerous conditions of training and education, contributing to the development and cumulation of student fatigue, the formation of morphofunctional deviations, and dangerous, contributing to the development and progression of school-related diseases.

When conducting production control in educational organizations, it is necessary to monitor the organization of laboratory research and testing, the availability of certificates, sanitary and epidemiological conclusions, personal medical books, as well as to carry out visual control over the conditions and mode of training of employees of the organization.

The hygienist should contribute to the activities of educational organizations in the field of compliance with the requirements of sanitary legislation, the development and implementation of preventive measures, the provision of educational activities that are safe for the health of children, and the implementation of production control, including through laboratory research.

Evidence-based medicine has evidence that if schools carry out effective sanitary and hygienic (preventive) measures, use modern achievements in preventive medicine, including the hygiene of children and adolescents. Then they get a pronounced health-saving effect of their activities.

A clean school
creates a positive learning environment

classroom cleanliness essay

Personally, I remember the hectic changeover’s between lessons as I ran from one end of the school to the other, the older kids having food fights in the canteen and the water fights on hot summers days. They were the good old days.

We all remember our teachers for the good and the bad. However, did we ever consider the unsung heroes who kept us safe and comfortable in the environment where we learnt out most valuable lessons: the cleaning operatives and school caretakers?

In a report published by the Northern Ireland Education and Library Board, it was found that there are a number of strategic benefits to a clean school: creates a positive learning experience and contributes to the ethos and culture of the school; encourages good hygiene practices; promotes a positive image to parents and reassures of pupil safety; teaches respect for property and environment; reduces hidden costs associated with deterioration of property and expenditure on maintenance.

Minimise risks In addition to the indirect impact cleaning staff has on the learning experience of pupils, maintaining a good standard of housekeeping at your school will also ensure a safe and hygienic environment for all users of the building, including pupils, staff and visitors.

With many accidents in schools being as a result of slips, trips and falls, it is essential to minimise these risks through maintaining a high standard of housekeeping.

Unlike many other building types, education facilities have to accommodate large-scale movements of pupils, staff and others, often concentrated into short periods of time, such as during lesson changes. With this in mind it is essential that spillages are cleaned up without delay and a “caution: wet floor” sign is used to protect building users to ensure areas are kept free from hazard or obstruction.

Since its establishment over 50 years ago, The British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) has continued to campaign to raise awareness of the requirement for accredited training and standards within the cleaning industry.

Over the years, the Institute has heard many horror stories about cleaning operatives whom, as a result of not receiving accredited training, have endangered themselves and other users of the building. In particular, BICSc has heard stories about operatives who have mixed corrosive chemicals with their hands or have left chemicals within easy reach of primary school children.

For any teacher or parent, it would be their worst nightmare should a pupil be injured as a result of coming into contact with chemicals that should have been stored out of reach.

As this illustrates, it is essential that all cleaning operatives receive accredited training in skills such as chemical competence when preparing cleaning solutions, to ensure health and safety while performing cleaning duties.

Furthermore, without initial accredited training, cleaning operatives will not have been trained in how to clean effectively and safely. For individuals outside of the cleaning industry, who only think about cleaning at the weekend when it’s time to do the dreaded housework, it may seem an obscure concept that individuals need accredited training on how to clean because, after all, we all know how to clean our own homes, right? In some ways this is true, but in fact there is much more to consider within commercial cleaning, such as the risk of cross-infection, correct use of chemicals and health and safety requirements.

Chemical competence Unlike regular household cleaning, many cleaning operatives are required to use a range of different chemicals, like floor, toilet and window cleaners and polishes. Furthermore, many of these chemicals are purchased in a concentrated form and require diluting. Many of these substances are designed for use in well-ventilated areas or can cause health problems, such as asthma and dermatitis, if used inappropriately.

With many operatives expected to use these chemicals within areas with little or no ventilation, such as toilets or corridors, operatives are not only posing a risk to their own health but also that of the students and staff at the school.

With one in 11 children in the UK suffering from asthma, it is essential that schools do everything within their capabilities to provide a safe environment, this includes clean and hygienic facilities.

Assess substances By law, employers are required to assess the risk of substances used within a workplace under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002. For employees, preventing exposure to harmful substances may require: the adoption of good working techniques that avoid or minimise contact with harmful substances and minimise leaks and spills, including safe storage of materials; providing personal protection equipment, such as gloves or eye protection; ensuring good hand care, for example, remove contamination promptly, wash hands properly, dry thoroughly and use skin creams regularly; ensuring the workplace is well-ventilated.

It is essential that cleaning operatives understand the relevant COSHH data sheets to ensure they are aware of what the hazards and risks are and also of what to do in an accident or emergency.

Before conducting any task, an operative should consult the risk assessment, follow the directions on the product labels, use hazardous substances only for the specified purpose, dilute according to specific instructions, open containers with care and never leave containers open.

Safe storage of
Equipment & Materials All hazardous substances used for cleaning within schools must be stored appropriately and must not be accessible to the users of the building, ie, not stored in teaching areas, staffrooms or toilets.

By ensuring a well-maintained and E
F organised cleaning storage area, operatives and employers can further increase the safety of their operatives by ensuring: hazardous materials are out of the reach of young children but remain easy to access by the cleaning operative (ie, not stored above head height); containers are not left open; there is suitable ventilation where required; warning signs are used correctly; all equipment and materials are labelled correctly; heaviest equipment is stored at the lowest levels; storage areas are dry and not immediately next to a heat source; and hazardous substances are not overstocked.

In addition to ensuring that operatives store equipment and materials effectively, it is also necessary that an operative receive sufficient training about the safe and correct disposal of hazardous products and materials.

By ensuring cleaning operatives understand the requirement to store all equipment and material safely and correctly, employers can confirm the health and safety of all staff and students, including the cleaning operative themselves.

Common complaints Further to the risks posed by the use of hazardous materials within schools, it is also necessary to establish that equipment and materials are used safely and correctly.

It is essential to make sure equipment is suitable for use (ie, not damaged or faulty) and is used in a safe and effective way (ie, not left out after use or cables left trailing). How many instances have their been in your school where a pupil or member of staff has tripped over a trailing cable or slipped on a wet floor in the bathroom because there was not a “caution: wet floor” sign?

For many, these are common complaints but they are nonetheless preventable through accredited training and knowledge.

Additionally, cleaning operatives are often employed within a workplace that has been designed with other workers in mind (ie, classrooms). This may generate additional challenges or health and safety problems that require the operative to make adjustments for the environment they are working within. For example, many secondary schools are on multilevels so, as a result, operatives are expected to carry equipment (such as vacuum cleaners) up and down stairs. This may
cause an operative serve physical damage, ultimately affecting attendance and the long-term cleanliness of the facilities. Standards and best practice When dealing with buildings such as schools, it is essential that all cleaning operatives are provided with the knowledge and skills to allow them to implement colour coding and best practices, such as “from clean to dirty” to minimise cross-infection.

In essence, to clean “from clean to dirty” ensures that an operative always starts with the cleanest area of the environment first, gradually working through to the soiled areas. To illustrate, you would never clean the toilet of a washroom and then continue to the hand basin before you clean the door handle, as you would spread germs from the toilet to all the other areas of the washroom.

Unlike many office buildings, schools often have a wide variety of different facilities that require cleaning, such as classrooms, washrooms, food technology suites and kitchens/canteens. As a result, it is necessary to implement a colour-coding system for cleaning materials and equipment.

The BICSc recommended colour code recommends the use of red materials for general washrooms and bathrooms, red and white materials for higher-risk sanitary appliances, blue for general low-risk areas, green for general food and bar use, yellow for clinical areas and white for site specific or specialist.

Through adopting a colour-code system within the school environment, cleaning operatives are able to minimise the risk of cross-infection by using the correct colour-coded materials within the correct designated areas. As we are aware, the spread of general coughs and colds, and more serious cases of flu, are commonly spread among schoolchildren.

Although children are inherently more vulnerable to common illnesses as their immune systems are still developing, it is possible to reduce the risk by adopting cleaning best practices.

Development of skills Scientific research demonstrates that student health, attendance and academic performance is improved with clean and well-maintained schools. Furthermore, accredited training and development of skills are crucial to the delivery of a quality service, while allowing operatives to carry out their roles effectively.

Green schools in America have indicated that staff and pupil absence decreases with the introduction of green clean schools. Additionally, through accredited training, employers can reduce staff turnover, increase job satisfaction and foster a good team ethic.

Overall, by improving cleaning standards within schools it is possible to promote a positive learning experience for students, improve health and hygiene within the school and improve the school’s ethos and culture. Further information Tel: 01604 678710 www.bics.org.uk

A Clean Start: School Cleaning and Sanitation Solutions for Reopening

Erin Cunningham is a writer and editor based in Maryland with experience writing about state and local government, education, technology and more.

As most K–12 schools prepare to return to in-person learning in the fall, many students are eager to reconnect with classmates, and educators look forward to getting back into the classroom. To make this possible, however, measures must be in place to help prevent the spread of disease. While COVID-19 infection rates have fallen, younger students are not yet able to be vaccinated, and new variants have some experts concerned about potential outbreaks.

Additionally, this past winter had  the lowest flu infections and deaths  since the CDC began tracking flu data. Organizations such as Johns Hopkins Medicine believe that  increased safety measures could be responsible  for the low numbers. Therefore, these measures could prevent drastic flu outbreaks in subsequent years.

To help students and staff safely reconnect, schools will need to consider sanitization strategies. These should encourage hand sanitization and sanitization solutions for classroom technology — particularly shared devices — according to industry professionals and experts.

Why Is Classroom Hygiene and Sanitization Important at K–12 Schools?

“While sanitation has always been important, the COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the public’s awareness of its importance in keeping people as healthy as possible,” says Karol Szacilowski, associate product manager of Enclosures and Cooling at Tripp Lite , a Chicago-based manufacturer of products to power and connect computers, networking equipment and electronic devices.

Schools are particularly at risk for the spread of infections, including COVID-19, says Dr. Ravina Kullar, an infectious disease specialist and epidemiologist and adjunct faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles. Indoor classrooms are crowded, she says, and in some cases poorly ventilated. Kullar adds that students younger than 12 are particularly at risk because there are currently no COVID-19 vaccines approved for that age group, while eligible students — and teachers — may not be protected due to vaccine hesitation.

“Infection prevention is key in a school setting,” says Kullar.

Can School-Issued Devices Contribute to COVID-19 and Flu Outbreaks?

Kullar suggests schools avoid having students share devices when possible to avoid passing germs. She says schools should have hand sanitizing stations readily available and recommends using solutions that are at least 60 percent alcohol – the level in most commonly used brands.

Schools also should sanitize shared devices after each use by an individual student, says Szacilowski.

DISCOVER:  Read up on the do's and don'ts of cleaning school-issued devices.

“In some schools, students are able to take devices home,” he says. “We recommend sanitizing these devices as soon as the students arrive at school in order to mitigate the risk of spreading microorganisms from home to school. We recommend the same process before students take devices home at the end of the school day. This not only gives students, teachers and staff peace of mind, but also parents.”

Here are a few sanitization options available for schools to consider:

Tablets and Laptops

  • Tripp Lite Charging Carts:  Tripp Lite products can help meet district’s charging and sanitization needs. The company offers two 32-port options, allowing IT leaders to choose the cart that best meets their district’s needs. There is  a cart for Chromebooks and laptops , and there is  a cart for tablets . Both provide the same charging and ultraviolet sanitation benefits.
  • Anywhere Cart:  Schools looking for  charging and sanitation solutions  for individual classrooms should consider Anywhere Cart charging solutions. The company offers a lockable cabinet that holds up to 18 devices.
  • Seal Shield:  Districts seeking a solution for a smaller number of devices, such as staff and teacher tablets, might consider the  charging and sanitizing cabinet from Seal Shield . It disinfects devices on four shelves without taking up much space in a classroom or school office.
  • Microsoft:  Microsoft offers tips to help keep its Surface devices clean on its  Support  page.

Hand Sanitizing

  • CTA Hand Sanitizing Stations:   Providing stations throughout school buildings  encourages students and staff to sanitize their hands. While not a substitute for hand-washing, the availability of sanitizing stations can decrease the spread of germs and disease. When used as students enter the building, it helps eliminate germs they may bring into the school.
  • Dr. Libeaute Sanitizer Refill:  Buying hand sanitizer in bulk, such as  the 1-gallon containers offered by Dr. Libeaute , ensures there is always enough to refill any sanitizing stations or classroom dispensers.

Sanitization Services

  • SanitizeIT:  This  CDW Amplified™ service  helps keep classrooms clean by collecting and sanitizing devices. Working with an organization to clean devices ensures staff and students aren’t forgetting that crucial step when left to do it themselves.

“It is important to frequently clean students’ devices to help keep the device looking and working great as well as reduce the spread the germs,” says Anthony Salcito, vice president of Microsoft Education Worldwide .

How Can Schools Keep Students Safe from Disease?

Schools should upgrade their ventilation systems before the start of the school year to help stop the spread of infection, Kullar says. Many of the measures schools have used to prevent the flu in previous years should be effective to curb the spread of COVID-19, she notes.

She says the key is to reinforce those measures and to ensure that school buses are included in sanitization planning as well.

LEARN MORE:  How can smart technology help create healthy school buildings?

“Children are constantly touching their faces,” she says. “If they touch a computer that is shared with a child who is sick, they aren’t going to remember to wash their hands immediately.”

Kullar says these infection prevention measures will be particularly important as new variants continue to spread, including the Delta variant already circulating in the U.S., which affects younger populations more than older people.

“The pandemic isn’t over yet,” she says.

What is the Importance of Cleanliness in School?

What is the Importance of Cleanliness in School?

A school is a place for education, and it’s also a place where kids can socialize and develop skills that will help them later in life.

When it comes to making sure school is a safe environment, the importance of cleanliness in school cannot be overlooked.

If you’re interested in learning how you can ensure that your school is clean, read on to learn more and discover a few tips for school cleanliness that you can put to good use.

Kids Learn More Effectively in a Clean School

If a school environment is dirty or unkempt, it can actually have a negative effect on a child’s overall learning experience. When schools are neat and tidy, children can put their focus on the task at hand.

A clean environment ensures the health and safety of everyone including teachers. When teachers are out sick due to a dirty school, it can affect the kids’ experience, too.

The importance of cleanliness in school reaches far beyond the way things look. It can be much more profound and have a real impact on the quality of the students’ education.

Clean Schools Promote Positivity

When your child’s school is clean, you can focus on the good things about their education. Parents and teachers won’t have to spend their time and energy fighting for a clean school, and instead, they can focus on the educational process.

A neat, clean school promotes a good attitude in everyone. When things are orderly and clean, everyone benefits in some way.

Attitude plays a crucial role in child development and learning. If the school is clean and people are happier in general, this positivity spreads.

Staff Will Be Happier in General

From the teachers to the cleaning staff, a clean school makes everyone much happier. This is especially true for the janitorial staff since they’re responsible for making sure everything is spotless.

You can help your school’s cleaning staff by making sure they have the equipment they need. For example, these used janitorial carts can make cleaning much easier and they’re designed for speed and ease of use.

Whether it’s the gym teacher or principal, a clean school is a great way to ensure that employees are content. No one wants to work in a dirty environment. Just like the students need a clean learning area, the teachers and staff need a clean place to do their jobs.

The Importance of Cleanliness in School and Disease Prevention

Dirt and grime promote the spread of germs , which can also encourage the spread of communicable diseases. A clean school is crucial to ensure that children and teachers don’t get sick.

If sickness spreads throughout an entire school, it can have devastating consequences. The sickness can be passed not just to people in the school, but also to other members of the community.

Make sure that key areas of the school are clean at all times, especially where germs tend to be. This includes places like the cafeteria, nurse’s office, locker rooms, and all restrooms.

Every part of the school should be thoroughly cleaned, and surfaces need to be wiped down and sanitized on a regular basis. Without a clean environment, bacteria and other dangerous germs will thrive.

Another perk of a clean school is that there will be fewer absences by students and fewer sick days taken by the staff. That can save the school a lot of money annually in terms of compensation and lost education time.

A Clean Environment Means People Care

You take pride in your home, and you’re happy to make sure that your family lives in a clean environment. The same thing applies to schools, and it shows that everyone cares about their place of learning.

When a school is clean and tidy, it shows pride in the school itself. This reflects on the attitude of staff members which also trickles down to the students.

Having a clean school means more than just being sanitary. It also shows school pride and expresses that everyone really cares about the place they visit almost every day.

This simple thing helps to create a shared sense of pride between everyone. When students, teachers, and parents are proud of their school, it shows in testing scores and student success.

Get the Students Involved

One way to ensure that your school stays clean is to enlist the help of students. As a teacher, a clean classroom will make learning a much more pleasant experience for all.

Give your students a special task that they should complete at the end of every learning day. Whether it’s putting pencils and pens back in their cups or wiping down the desks, it’s a good way to encourage productive teamwork.

You don’t need to ask students to scrub the floors, but simple tidying up will do. Task each student with one easy thing they can do daily that will ensure your classroom stays organized.

Clean Schools Equal Successful Schools

When it comes down to it, the importance of cleanliness in school is related to educational success. A clean school ensures a positive and healthy environment for everyone involved.

Show your school pride with a clean facility that fosters productive learning and positivity. Work together as a team to ensure that everyone does their part to make your school a clean and safe place to learn.

Aspects of Cleanliness

Disease prevention and hygiene are said to be the two aspects associated with cleanliness. Maintaining hygiene does not necessarily mean keeping yourself clean. It includes your house, your neighbourhood, your city as well as keeping your country clean or keeping your surroundings clean. In this way, cleanliness has more of a cultural and social impact on society as a whole.

Importance of Keeping your Surroundings Clean

With the assistance of cleanliness, we can keep our mental as well as physical health clean, which will make us feel better. Cleanliness offers to ascend to a decent character by keeping the body, brain, and soul perfect and tranquil. Keeping up cleanliness is the basic piece of solid living since it is the cleanliness just which enhances our identity by keeping clean remotely and inside.

Since cleaning is tasking and requires effort from people, some people opt out and cleanliness will not be achieved.

In conclusion, cleanliness is a huge responsibility that requires commitment. The impacts of a clean environment on the performance and achievements should be a motivating factor. If you love a clean place it should be your responsibility to make it clean.

Generally, cleanliness is an act of trying to keep our mind, body, home, dress, surrounding and even every of our other work area clean and very neat. The cleanliness of our body is extremely essential for our mental and physical health. Our surrounding areas should also be kept clean and our environment being clean is of utmost importance to our intellectual and social health. We should try to imbibe the habit of cleanliness and ensure that our home and surroundings are free of dirt; dirt is the primary cause of most diseases we have around us. If our surrounding isn’t clean and our body isn’t properly groomed and taken care of we can become highly susceptible to a variety of disease causing bacteria, germs, fungus and virus.

People with dirty habits are the major ones that spread fatal (threat to life) and very dangerous diseases. A lot of infectious diseases are propagated to different wide areas and can make people very sick and in severe cases leads to the death of the sick. As a result of this, we should do our best to always try to take good care of our health through our cleanliness every day. Cleanliness is a very good habit that can always make us happy and proud of ourselves in the society.

Cleanliness is extremely important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a good standard of living. Cleanliness plays a very vital role in boosting a person’s popularity. A lot of civil laws and programmes have been organised and put in place by various governments of the world. Cleanliness is not just one person’s responsibility or job; everybody should do their best individually and collectively to maintain cleanliness in the country, community, society and the home. We should do our best to fully understand all the different facets of cleanliness so that we can fully benefit from cleanliness.

Cleanliness ranks high on the agenda of great and successful people. Because next to hard work, cleanliness tells a lot about a person’s character. When it is belittled, it results in indiscipline, dirt and disease. Therefore, when people progress, they become more clean and neat. Hence, cleanliness is often seen as an indicator of progress in the civilization of a society.

Areas of Cleanliness:

i. Personal Grooming:

Every individual is capable of the art of personal grooming. It involves cleaning and maintaining the body parts and look good. Taking bath, brushing and flossing teeth, combing, washing hands whenever required, cutting nails and hair at regular intervals are some habits that are important part of personal cleanliness. It further involves keeping our mind from filthiness. While a theist should spend time every day to confess the wrongdoings and receive forgiveness, an atheist needs to spend time on meditation on a regular basis. Keeping ones thoughts clean is as important as physical cleanliness.

Next to personal cleanliness comes keeping the dwelling place neat and clean. Starting with disposing the garbage on a daily basis, it includes cleaning up all rooms on a regular basis, maintaining bedcovers and curtains, trimming the interior and exterior garden, keeping the kitchen sink and toilet free of unpleasant smell, insects etc. It also includes proper disposal of solid and liquid waste into the municipal dustbin and drainage system.

iii. Workplace:

Since major part of the productive day is spent in the workplace, it is necessary to keep it very clean. Being quite larger than home in terms of area and headcount, the workplace requires the collective effort of the employer, employees and janitors to maintain the work environment. Apart from the basic cleanliness activities done at home, the workplace needs additional application of disinfectants, air filters, and waste disposal systems to maintain hygiene and dignity. It needs still more attention at Hospitals, Restaurants and like industries.

iv. Public Places:

Living in communities, it is important to keep public places like roads, beaches, parks etc. neat and clean. If each citizen becomes responsible and could show the same care that is taken for home and workplace, then the city and the entire country would have a clean environment to live, work and play.

Benefits of Cleanliness:

Since health is wealth, cleanliness prevents diseases, promotes good health and thereby preserves our wealth. It maintains discipline at all levels. It promotes self-respect and self-confidence of the family, institution, city and country. A clean environment gives a cheerful mind to improve and progress.

How to Nurture Cleanliness:

Although it is best to learn cleanliness from childhood, it could be developed at point of life whenever the sensitivity is achieved. Being careful and regular on a daily basis is the success mantra for cleanliness. It has nothing to do with being rich. So, it could be achieved by anyone in the society irrespective of their social status and wealth.

Champions of Cleanliness:

The first Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew started the campaign to keep the country clean almost 50 years ago. It made the place pleasant and added value to its economy. The sickness rate is low, life expectancy is more, tourism has flourished and all the citizens benefit from it.

Learning cleanliness from his days in the West, Mahatma Gandhi insisted that a lavatory must be as clean as a drawing room. He strongly believed that cleanliness would promote good health and hence advocated it throughout his lifetime.

Following Gandhi’s model, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated a nation-wide campaign called Swach Bharat on 2nd October, 2014. It functions to provide sanitation facilities, proper solid and liquid waste disposal systems, and safe drinking water.

Cleanliness adds more value to personal and social life. Since good habits are contagious, it is possible to teach children, neighbours and illiterates on the importance of cleanliness, by being a role model. With a collective effort, cleanliness and in turn, good health and happiness are within reach.

Keeping our mind, body, home, neighborhood and workplace Clean and Green is “Cleanliness.” It is one of the most important habits we develop since childhood. We cannot ignore the value of cleanliness and hygiene in our lives. Habits learned in the early phase of our live stays implanted in our mind for a more extended period. Being clean and keeping green is a lifestyle we need to adapt for leading a healthy life.

Cleanliness is not just limited to sanitation of the area where you live. It has a pivotal role in your personal life. Cleanliness in attitude and thoughts play an important element to become a successful person in life. External cleanliness is related to the sanitation of your home and premises. But, it is equally important to have internal cleanliness – the cleanliness of the soul. Removing garbage, dirt and foul smell, etc., are part of sanitation, which helps to maintain the cleanliness of your living surroundings.

It is an imperative factor in life, and everybody must be conscious about the importance to maintain cleanliness. A dirty mind and surrounding is indeed a reason for a person becoming sick. Therefore we have to put conscious effort to maintain a healthy atmosphere by keeping the surrounding clean and keeping oneself clean.

Is it a key to achieve our goals?

Yes, we as an individual hesitate to understand the importance and value of cleanliness in our daily routines. It is not the goal, but it plays a vital role in achieving our goals. Personal hygiene gets affected easily if we don’t take proper measures to maintain cleanliness. And an unclean state of body and mindset can easily distract you from your desired goal. It will stop you, affect your performance and capabilities of your living standard.

For leading a purposeful life, cleanliness is crucial as it complements your true worth. It helps to fight from many dangerous diseases. Consuming unhygienic food, drinking foul water or a poor living condition are a few challenging conditions makes people sick.

For a healthy lifestyle, we need to respect our environment, body, and mind. Right steps taken at the right time will help in building our nation. The enchanted beauty will bring more foreign tourists to our land which will increase the tourism business. Remember, not a single tourist would like to visit a foul land. We, ourselves encourages and strikes the places with mesmerizing beauties. Thus, we should adopt a lifestyle to nurture our surroundings.

How to maintain it?

It is our responsibility to keep the environment clean and making others to understand the importance of maintaining the environment clean. Only the sincere efforts of following certain manners could give a better surrounding. Every government has to play a vital role to carry out cleanliness awareness drives and make sure that people respect the cleanliness laws. The government needs to take strict actions against people who are responsible for littering public places and throw garbage on the roads. Keeping the neighborhood unclean is a shabby practice which causes health issues. A healthy and positive mindset with a good physique is the balance sheet of cleanliness.

Pollution is one of the primary reason for the unhygienic living condition. Making changes in the lifestyle can save our neighborhood from pollution. We have to develop a recycling culture and all materials that are recyclable should go to the recycling plant. It can stop material pollution and spoiling the environment. Purchasing the products made of non-toxic materials will help to preserve valuable resources. Let’s say, investing in reliable and durable household items and reuse them in the future instead of purchasing disposable items will help to maintain a clean environment.

To maintain a healthy environment, we need to look out for greenery and stop felling trees. Trees are an essential resource to purify and control pollution. More trees in our surroundings equal healthy environment and a fresh mindset. Water – one of the most necessary resource needs to be utilized and stored efficiently. Never allow to contaminate water.

Planting the importance of cleanliness among society is essential to motivate the individuals keeping their surrounding clean. There should be a proper awareness campaign to reinforce the need for sanitation, and it can be easy to adopt a strategy to involve students, social and service organization to be part of the drive.

A joint campaign by involving all section of the society is essential to accomplish total cleanliness of a state. If each of us can put their effort to maintain the cleanliness, then it will have a significant impact on the society. Inclusive cleanliness awareness campaign will be helpful in spreading the importance of the subject, and people will start to adopt cleaning the surrounding as their responsibility.

To see the much-awaited change, we need to take strict actions and act with sincerity. Corrective measures required instead of complaining about the pollution. Make everybody responsible for cleaning their premises by actively involving them. Students can start their effort by cleaning their school campus; government officials can engage in cleaning their office and premises, factory employees can participate in cleaning their factory and surrounding, etc. A combined effort of all sections of the society can make a lot of changes in the nation and attitude of the individuals towards cleanliness.

As we live in a society, we are a part of our surroundings, so we need to understand our responsibility as an individual, we should encourage the efforts made by others’ and contribute to ensuring a healthy surrounding. Systematic collection and segregation of waste depending on the scope of recyclability should strictly implement to maintain sustainable cleanliness. For maintaining cleanliness of the environment, we need to process biodegradable and non-degradable waste separately. Similarly, for personal cleanliness, we have to keep our body clean.

Cleanliness has different meanings depending on the matter of discussion. With regard to religion, cleanliness is the state of being pure, without moral contamination. When the subject matter is on the environment, it is the state of being free from dirt. Environmental cleanliness is what most people are familiar with because of the daily interaction with the environment and the impact they have on the lives of individuals with regard to health and expectations of the society. Cleanliness of the environment include everything on the surface of the earth. There are different types of cleanliness in the environment. Mostly, the environmental cleanliness is emphasized during prevention of pollution and health education in the society. Cleanliness of religion varies with the specific religion and its beliefs. The importance of cleanliness is realized in both spiritual and physical aspects. The society s place double standard on cleanliness such that, whatever is clean is admired and fought for.

Types of Cleanliness:

There are two major types of cleanliness i.e., physical cleanliness and spiritual cleanliness. Physical cleanliness has several subtypes according to the object being cleaned. Physical cleanliness involves elimination of dirt and impurities from the body, clothes, food, houses and the outside environment. Body cleaning is done through full body bath with soap and water, handwashing practice and keeping away from dirt. Cleaning clothes is a laundry process whereby manual washing by hands can be done or machine washing. Cleaning the environment is through collection of dirt in the environment and disposing them appropriately, while observing the purity of all the three aspects of the environment i.e., air, water and land. When handling food, cleanliness should be observed through hand washing and using of clean cooking and eating utensils so as to prevent ingestion of dirt. The houses and household items should also be kept clean especially the living space, the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms because we interact with the house environment more often.

Spiritual cleanliness is basically focused on the removal of moral contamination and being pure in the faith and beliefs of the religion. In Christians, cleanliness means the forgiveness of sin and living according to the Bible doctrines. Christians also have cleanliness of conditions considered impure for example menstruation and childbirth. Christians lay strong emphasis on hygiene in humans. In Islam, cleanliness means the cleanliness of hearts of individuals and the good manners of members of the society. Muslims believe that purification of hearts of individuals from feelings of negativity and bad vices like jealousy enables the society to stay peaceful at all times. Muslims also believe that cleanliness from conditions that are considered ritually impure is important. Hindus believe that cleanliness is a divine quality that should be practiced by individuals. Bhagavad Gita describes cleanliness with relation to the Hindu society virtues and qualities that individuals must acquire in order to be given grace by God. Hindus also perform cleanliness through visiting the seven rivers to bathe and purify their minds.

Cleanliness is a vital component of human life both physically and spiritually. Spiritual cleanliness is important in being on the right with your God and following the beliefs and rituals of your religion. On the other hand, physical cleanliness is important in the wellbeing and existence of humanity.

Cleanliness is necessary for health and wellness of individuals and the society. Health and cleanliness relate to each other and influence each other. In order to be of good health, one should practice hygiene. Hygiene is basically the practice of maintaining good health and preventing diseases through cleanliness. Cleanliness of the body, food and environment contribute to the wellbeing of an individual health wise. Cleanliness prevents disease because dirt usually harbors infective pathogens that cause disease to human beings when they get exposed to them. Hygienic practices are highly advocated for by health professionals because it is better to prevent a disease than to wait and seek treatment for it. Hygienic practices prolong the lives of individuals because they will be free of illnesses.

Safety is enabled through cleanliness of the environment. The environment that we interact with often needs to be clean so that accidents can be prevented. For example, in the workplace, daily cleaning will ensure that there are no water spills on the floor that could cause a fall. Clearing bushes around homes provide safety from harmful insects and animals like snakes. Cleaning not only involves the act of clearing bushes and washing floors, but also the organization of the environment. Through organization, harmful objects can be put away so that accidents can be prevented in the environment.

Brand protection can be achieved through cleanliness. In environmental cleanliness, buildings and the surrounding environment are cleaned and organized. As a marketing strategy, cleanliness is an advantage for the brand because it will portray the brand as organized and conducive for human interaction. In this competitive world, cleanliness is a priority consideration for brands. In the food industry, cleanliness is what people look at before they can engage because health well-being is important for individuals.

Cleanliness also enables the extension of a lifespan of an object. With tools and instruments, cleanliness is emphasized because dirt causes reduction of the lifespan like in metallic objects, rust causes destruction of the tools and instruments. In buildings, cleanliness also preserves the integrity and enables longer durability.

Cleanliness is a moral virtue that is admired. When a person is clean, social relations and interactions become easier because society views dirty people as a nuisance and they are inapproachable. Cleanliness is attractive and admirable in the society.

In conclusion, cleanliness in the lives of individuals is unavoidable. Everything surrounding the life of an individual is viable for cleanliness in order to maintain functionality and development. Spiritual cleanliness is mostly focused on purity of self before God and humanity in all religions although the methods of purification are different for each religion. Physical cleanliness is beneficial with regard to human interaction and with the environment in terms of health, safety and lifespan.

3 Minutes Speech on Cleanliness for Students

Short speech on cleanliness.

Hello everyone, I am here to present a speech on cleanliness. In India, it is a saying that goddess Laxmi ( the goddess of wealth and money)  resides where the cleanliness persists. Thus, cleanliness and hygiene are always a priority and important in Indian culture. Also when we see a place or home which is clean it gives us visual treat and pleasure. Cleanliness is also important to maintain good health and quality lifestyle. Cleanliness can also be attributed to a habit of successful people. Next to hard work, cleanliness tells a lot about a person’s character.

speech on cleanliness

With the coming of the new government in the country since 2014, cleanliness is given priority on the whole new level through “Swachcha  Bharat Mission”. The “ Swachacha Bharat Mission” has targeted to clean the country by the year 2030. Also, our national leader  Shri  Mahatma Gandhi has always preached every citizen of the country to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.

Why Maintain Cleanliness?

It is no rocket science to understand that cleanliness is very important in maintaining the health of the family members and the whole nation. As lack of cleanliness and hygiene gives rise to a number of germs. This leads to several deadly diseases ultimately affecting the health of the overall nation. Thus to lead a healthy lifestyle we need to adopt cleanliness in our daily routine.

How to Maintain Cleanliness?

We  should  follow  and   teach our  younger  generation to follow  some basic steps  to maintain cleanliness  on day  to day  basis  like:

  • Brushing teeth before eating anything in the morning.
  • Always wash hands after using the toilets.
  • Always wash hands before eating anything.
  • Wear washed clothes.
  • Always use dustbin to throw the garbage.

Other than these, the females and other members in the house should maintain cleanliness by washing the vegetables before use, cleaning house floors daily with disinfectants, etc. Maintaining human health and hygiene is important but maintaining environmental cleanliness is also equally important.

Maintaining  Environmental Cleanliness

The earth is our home. It provides us with many things of our daily use as food, water, and air. Thus,  we should consider it as our home and become responsible for maintaining its cleanliness. Due to continuous population explosion, we can see here and there, packets of food, plastic beverages bottles, littering, pollution which is making our earth dirty. The environmental cleanliness can be enhanced by adopting measures such as usage of dustbin while traveling or using roads, avoiding spitting and throwing garbage in the surroundings, avoiding usage of plastic bags,  and adopting measures of recycling.

Cleanliness is not only a  necessity but it can also become a habit. A  responsible person is also a clean person. By adopting cleanliness in our home and surroundings, we will contribute to building a healthier nation. A smile is contagious so is cleanliness. When you see a person or a home clean, it also motivates you to clean your surroundings. Thus, we should encourage a number of people to adopt cleanliness measures by mouth publicity or doing awareness camps through advertisements, banners hoarding, etc, spreading awareness on less use of plastic, spreading awareness on the use of recycled products and biodegradable products. With a collective effort, we can achieve cleanliness and in turn, we can get good health and happiness as a reward.
