Kelly Donovan & Associates

Kelly Donovan & Associates

Kelly Donovan & Associates (KDA) are online seminar creators, resume writers, and LinkedIn profile optimizers. Kelly Donovan began her business in 2008 and since then she has helped hundreds of job seekers. She is a certified professional resume writer and has contributed to various career-related books.

Kelly Donovan & Associates is focused on providing lower-volume, higher-quality career services. With KDA you won’t experience a rushed product with a 2-business day turnaround time. KDA takes time to speak with you on a 60-90 minute consultation and will put in the time to provide top-notch service.

The biggest drawback to Kelly Donovan & Associates would be their pricing and turnaround times. We couldn’t find any a la carte pricing for just the LinkedIn profile makeover but upon calling the business they stated that their minimum project cost is $1,200.

Best Companies That Help You Find a Job

Need Help With Your Job Search?

Did you know there are companies you can hire to help with your job search? Whether you need resume help or want someone to apply to jobs for you, we’ve reviewed the 20 best agencies to help you find a job.

LinkedIn Makeover

LinkedIn Makeover

LinkedIn Makeover is not only the name of this company, but it is also the main service that this company offers. To clarify, this company is not owned by LinkedIn nor are they affiliated in any way. In addition to LinkedIn writing services, this company also offers resume writing, blog writing, and even some corporate solutions. The founder, Donna Serdula, and her team have helped over 5,000 professionals optimize their LinkedIn profiles since 2009.

This company will actually upload your resume for you. Not many services offer to log into your profile and add the information but this one does.

The overall price point could be a little steep for some job seekers. We also were not able to find any reviews online. Lastly, it does not appear that Donna Serdula writes all the LinkedIn profiles herself.

Robin Ryan

Robin Ryan is a career counselor, bestselling author, and the founder and CEO of her company, Robin Ryan. Robin does resume writing, CV writing, LinkedIn profile writing services, and can even help with your job search and interviewing. Robin Ryan has an impressive background appearing on over 2,000 TV & radio shows, and as a public speaker and career expert featured in various major publications. She is also a weekly columnist for Forbes and has written eight books.

Robin Ryan personally writes each of the LinkedIn profiles and does not outsource any of her work. This is great news because many companies that boast talented founders don’t actually have their founders doing any of the work.

Robin requires a 2-hour consultation with her clients. She works on the LinkedIn profile during the consultation which allows you to see in real-time the updates being made to your LinkedIn. This could be a con for professionals who do not have a lot of time to spend on the phone.

LinkedIn Marketplace

LinkedIn Services Marketplace

LinkedIn Services Marketplace is an updated freelance site exclusively available for LinkedIn users. The platform was formerly known as LinkedIn Profinder. It makes perfect sense that LinkedIn would promote LinkedIn profile services. If you have trouble finding these services, it’s actually listed under the “Resume Writing” category.

LinkedIn Services Marketplace is unique because it gives you the opportunity to review your writer’s actual LinkedIn profile before hiring them. If you are in the market for a new LinkedIn profile, having the opportunity to research a writer and see what they consider a good LinkedIn profile is helpful.

Services Marketplace can be a bit challenging to find the best talent. Since the freelancers are usually matched based on your current location, it can be a bit limiting. After all, the odds that the very best LinkedIn profile writer is located in your city are slim. These services can be offered digitally so finding a pro who is not local may be a better option.

The Writing Master

The Writing Master

You will be working one-on-one with Viviana herself on your LinkedIn profile. Viviana has been helping others deliver their message and building their businesses by using creative writing for over 20 years.

LinkedIn profile writing is not Viviana’s sole focus. She also offers web content writing and ghostwriting services. The website lacks details about the LinkedIn profile writing process.

Fiverr

Fiverr is another online freelancing site similar to LinkedIn Services Marketplace. With thousands of freelancers to choose from, Fiverr gives you complete control over finding the best LinkedIn profile writing service yourself.

Fiverr has one of the widest varieties of LinkedIn profile writers that you can find. If you have a set price in mind, Fiverr will let you search through hundreds of freelance writers to find one that is within your desired budget. You can also pay just for specific sections of your LinkedIn profile. If you only want a “summary” but not the rest of the LinkedIn profile, Fiverr has that option.

Fiverr requires a bit more work and research to find a great writer, compared to using a traditional LinkedIn profile writing service from this list. Fiverr has a ton of options, which could be considered a good thing, or a bit overwhelming to others. This site is the most likely of all the sites to leave you with a negative experience because it’s difficult to know what to expect. Use at your own risk.

How to Create a Striking LinkedIn Profile: Guide + Tips

Your LinkedIn profile is a dynamic resume. On it, you can highlight your credentials and work experience alongside your achievements and portfolio samples.

[Featured Image] A person in a maroon shirt sits at a wooden table and works on their LinkedIn profile on a laptop.

Your LinkedIn profile represents your career journey, and you can edit and adjust it as you reach new milestones. Think of it as a dynamic resume. On it, you can highlight your credentials and work experience alongside your achievements and portfolio samples. Your profile is also your portal to sharing your expertise through original posts and interactions with other professionals through their posts and updates.

In maintaining an active LinkedIn profile, you may be able to find new job opportunities , network with like-minded professionals, and position yourself as an industry thought leader. In this article, we’ll offer tips for leveraging your LinkedIn profile as a professional branding tool that tells your unique career story.

How to set up your LinkedIn profile

You can use your LinkedIn profile to signal what you’ve done, what you’re doing, and what you hope to do throughout your career, telling a complete story about your career journey.

LinkedIn organizes profiles into several sections, each of which offers an opportunity to share a piece of your story. Some common LinkedIn profile sections include:

Profile photo

Background photo, licenses and certifications.

Here, we’ll offer tips for filling out your profile sections.

Your profile photo will appear at the top of your LinkedIn profile, and alongside your name and headline in various places across the platform, such as in search results and alongside your posts on the homepage. Your photo is a visual introduction to your entire profile and serves as a digital first impression.

According to LinkedIn, profiles with a photo are 14 times more likely to be viewed than profiles without a photo, so it’s worth putting some thought into the photo you choose [ 1 ]. LinkedIn suggests using a clear photo that looks like you, with only you in it, and in which your face takes up at least 60 percent of the frame. This way, your contacts can clearly identify you from your photo, whether you’ve met them in person already or are meeting them for the first time online.

Just as prevalent as your profile photo, your headline is a brief description of what you do. Your headline will be the first role-related piece of information a person viewing your profile sees. While some people choose to write their current job title into this field, you can define yourself however you want to.

Use this field to establish yourself as the type of professional you want to be seen as. For example, say you are a market researcher at a large advertising firm with a side hustle as a graphic designer. If you want to use LinkedIn to network with other advertisers, you may write your current job title in the headline field. However, if your goal is to expand your graphic design business, you may choose to define yourself as a “data-informed graphic designer” or “graphic designer guided by market research.”

In addition to your profile photo, you can choose a background photo for your profile. Your background photo appears as a banner across the top of your profile. LinkedIn offers some pre-installed background photo options, or you can upload your own. Your background photo doesn’t need to be a photo of you, though it can be. Choose an image that fits into the recommended size parameters, 1584 pixels wide by 396 pixels high.

Use this space to visually set the tone for the story you’ll tell throughout the rest of your profile. For example, if you are a data analyst, you may choose a background photo featuring clever networking-related visualizations, or if you are a dietician, perhaps you’ll lead with an image of the ingredients for your favorite work-from-home lunch.

Your summary appears under the “About” section on your profile. In this open-ended space, you have a maximum of 2,000 characters (around 300 to 500 words) to introduce yourself to the people visiting your profile.

Think about this section as the introductory paragraph to your career story. Here, you can expand on the title you presented in your headline and show a bit more of your personality while highlighting your experience, accomplishments, key skills , and career goals. If you’re hoping to attract a certain type of audience to your profile, you can infuse your summary with related keywords so that your profile appears in relevant search results.

Learn more about writing a LinkedIn summary that helps you stand out .

Tip: LinkedIn doesn’t offer formatting options for the description of your role, so this will default as an open-ended structure. If you prefer to format role descriptions with bullet points , there is a work-around:

If you are using a PC, place your cursor in the Description section and press Alt+0149.

If you are using a Mac, place your cursor in the Description section and press Option+8.

The experience section is where you list your work experience. Much like a resume, you can fill in your title, company, location, dates of employment, and description for each role. Additionally, you can add role-related skills and media, such as links to articles, videos, and more.

This section is the body of your career story. Use your experience entries to show how you’ve progressed and grown throughout your career. In describing each role, spotlight your major accomplishments, and consider whether adding media can help illustrate your contributions. For example, if you were the lead UX designer behind a company’s app launch, you may consider attaching wireframe images or screenshots of the final product.

Filling out this section completely and infusing it with relevant keywords can help improve your profile’s searchability.

Be sure to keep this section as up-to-date as possible. Learn more about announcing your new job on LinkedIn .

List your formal education under the education section. For each entry, you can include your school, degree, field of study, dates attended, GPA , and activities. You can also add a description—where you can detail relevant coursework, for example—and attach media.

Similar to listing education on your resume , the more work experience you have, the less detail you’ll need to include in your education section. For example, if you are a recent graduate, you’ll probably want to leverage the skills you honed and your many achievements from your college years as you network with recruiters and hiring managers. However, if you have a decade of work experience, by this point, your degree likely only appears as a starting point for 10 years of growth.

As you fill out this section, consider the role your education plays at this point in your career story, and add detail accordingly.

Add your professional credentials to your profile under the Licenses & Certifications section. Here, you can detail the name of your credential, issuing organization, issue date, expiration date (if applicable), and credential ID and URL.

There’s no space to describe your credential in this section, so if you want to highlight this achievement, consider incorporating the achievement into your headline or summary. If you’ve completed courses on Coursera, you’ll be able to add your certificates to this section.

Learn more about adding Coursera accomplishments to your LinkedIn profile .

Additional sections

There are several additional sections you may add to your LinkedIn profile if they are relevant to your growth journey. LinkedIn doesn’t limit the length of your profile, so you can add as many or as few sections as you need to tell your story.

Some sections you may want to consider include:

Volunteer experience

Honors & awards

Publications

Organizations

You can also add portfolio entries to your profile, and even upload your resume to LinkedIn . Choose the sections and upload options that work together to demonstrate your professional expertise and achievements.

Does LinkedIn show who viewed your profile?

LinkedIn shares some profile analytics when you’re logged into your account, including the number of people who have viewed your profile and how often you appear in search results. You can locate this data by navigating to the section titled ‘Analytics’ on your logged-in profile.

A few factors influence whether you can see who viewed your profile. If you have a free LinkedIn account, you can see who viewed your profile only if your Profile Viewing Options are set to show your name and headline or private profile characteristics and if the person viewing your profile has also selected one of those settings. If you subscribe to LinkedIn Premium, you can see those members who have viewed your profile regardless of your privacy settings, as long as those members choose to share that information.

To adjust your privacy settings, navigate to your profile settings .

Getting the most out of LinkedIn

Once you’ve finished filling out your profile, you're ready to use it to build your professional network and participate in industry discussions. Here are some tips for using LinkedIn :

Expand your network: Start building your network by requesting to connect with people you know. From there, you’ll be able to identify second-degree connections or people who your contacts know and may be willing to introduce you to.

Follow people and topics of interest: Stay up-to-date with industry trends and leaders by following organizations and people relevant to your professional interests to see updates and posts on your home feed.

Participate in conversations: Join conversations by reacting to and commenting on posts from people you follow. You may find an interesting conversation or a new contact through the comment section.

Support your colleagues: Endorse the connections you enjoyed working with and build goodwill within your network by writing LinkedIn recommendations . Plus, when you write a recommendation, your note of support will show up on your connection's LinkedIn profile, which can expose potential new connections to your profile.

Share content: You can demonstrate your expertise and insight by sharing original posts, and potentially spark conversations and learning opportunities with others in your field.

What career levels and functions do you provide outplacement services for?

While most of our outplacement clients have been mid-career professionals, we have helped employees at all levels, from C-suite executives to hourly workers (including unions and nonprofits). During onboarding, we classify each employee type and match them with a Klaxos team member who knows their function, industry, and level.

If clients want to change industries or job vocations, we can help! We are well-informed of current business best practices and can translate your skills from your current situation into a new career. As certified writers of 6,000 resumes or LinkedIn profiles powered by 100+ years of combined business experience, we are highly qualified to write for any industry or occupation.

What is outplacement?

Outplacement is an employer-paid benefit in a severance package to enable terminated or laid-off employees to find a new job. Klaxos has transitioned employee mindset from anxiety about job cuts, layoffs, furloughs, dismissals, or reductions-in-force (RIF) to optimism about future opportunities.

We provide comprehensive services for re-employment, such as resume, LinkedIn, and cover letter writing. We give 1:1 job search training, interview coaching, resume emailed to ~40,000 job recruiters, LinkedIn connection building, and an extensive repository of on-demand career-building resources.

Do small and medium companies provide outplacement?

Yes, outplacement services are not just for large companies. Paid employment transition reduces risk and builds trust. We have provided career transition services to organizations of every size, from 10 to 10,000 employees. We support all-sized organizations to assist their displaced employees in finding a new profession.

What is your resume and LinkedIn writing process?

Below is the procedure for our resume and LinkedIn profile writing services:

  • Purchase the appropriate resume or LinkedIn package and add-on services.
  • You will instantly receive an email with the subject line: Receipt & Next Steps: Klaxos.
  • Send us your current resume (if no resume, it's not a problem) and any other information (e.g., job descriptions, jobs of interest, web pages) you want us to review.
  • We will review your submission and match you with a Klaxos team member who knows your function, industry, and level.
  • You will schedule a phone or video interview with us to review your submitted information.
  • We will send you any requested revisions/edits within 1 business day. You can schedule another consultation to discuss edits.
  • After receiving your approval via email, we will install the profile we wrote into your LinkedIn account. Upon request, we can email it to you in Microsoft Word so you can self-install it. We are the ONLY service that installs your new profile into your LinkedIn account.
  • If you bought other documents (e.g., cover letter, bio), you will receive them within 2 business days of your approval of your final resume.

Which industries and skill functions do your writers have experience?

The Klaxos writing team are former Fortune 100 executives who have managed P&L, large teams, hired senior professionals, and recruiters in MANY industries and functions. As certified writers of 6,000 resumes or LinkedIn profiles powered by 100+ years of combined business experience, we are highly qualified to write for any industry or occupation.

We are top-rated for our expertise in working with executive, professional, C-suite, early-career, student, military-to-civilian, and scientist-to-business transition. However, we are experts in all career levels in over 100+ industries and professions.

If you want to change industries or job vocations, we can help! We are well-informed of current business best practices and can translate your skills from your current situation into a new career.

Which countries have you written resumes and LinkedIn profiles for?

Do you outsource your writing to freelancers.

NO. Our work is done by a small (on purpose), internal, certified team that has been writing and learning together since 2012 within the U.S. We leverage our shared experiences into career success for our clients. This continuity, combined with our industry experience, enables us to write high-quality work customized to your experience, skills, accomplishments, and goals.

Despite claims to the contrary, 90% of other resume writing services will outsource your work to a network of freelance writers overseas and hope you do not complain.

What services do you provide beyond resume and LinkedIn writing?

All our resume, LinkedIn, and cover letter writing services include an extensive repository of on-demand career-building resources. The repository comprises comprehensive guides for job search planning and implementation, executive recruiter lists, job boards by function, interviewing, and timely impactful career-building articles.

Many clients have found our Recruiter Connect service an enlightening guide to landing their targeted job. It contains 1:1 job search training and interview coaching (not a webinar), resume emailed to ~40,000 job recruiters, and LinkedIn connection building.

Why does your ATS resume deliver more interviews than those with fancy styling?

80% of resumes never get viewed by a human. An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is the software that is the judge, jury, and executioner of the online job application you submitted. The ATS algorithm scans, parses (organizes), ranks based on skills keyword matching and rejects 80% of resumes. The algorithm job recruiters use to search for talent on LinkedIn uses similar methods.

ATS software cannot parse (organize) resumes that contain two columns, tables, logos, images, symbols, odd fonts, headers, footers, and other fancy styling. Resumes or any document with this fancy styling will likely rank at the bottom (the dreaded job search black hole) as they cannot be scanned. Also, 70% of job recruiters read resumes on their mobile phones; elaborate formatting makes the resume distorted and impossible to read.

Our resumes are compatible with ATSs and mobile devices, boosting your chances of getting an interview with the hiring manager. Our resume layout is what they expect to see as it follows the guidelines of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Professional Association of Resume Writers, and the Association of Executive Recruiting.

What do job recruiters think of your resume writing and layout?

  • Our resume layout is what job recruiters are expecting to see.
  • Our proprietary design follows the guidelines of the Society for Human Resource Management, the Professional Association of Resume Writers, and the Association of Executive Recruiting.
  • Korn Ferry executive search and LinkedIn have included us in their advisory panels.
  • Executive recruiters hire us to write their resumes and LinkedIn.
  • Our resumes are optimized for the human 7-second resume review and F pattern, where recruiters first read horizontally across the top of the content, then move down the page and read horizontally across the first job title and then the left side of the resume.
  • Klaxos combines your job scope, accomplishments, and hard and soft skills with action verbs to help create a higher-grade level of readability.
  • Pro Tip: Use Calibri font, a narrow sans-serif typeface, like Arial/Helvetica, thereby allowing more text characters per line.

What is the success rate of clients using your services?

You should be suspicious of other services promising to quickly deliver your desired job and compensation. Their websites are full of outrageous metrics. Each job search is unique and influenced by demand (or lack thereof) for a candidate's skills, customizing each application to the job description, geography, seasonality, compensation needs, interviewing, and other factors beyond resume and LinkedIn writing. At least 50% of jobs on job boards are already filled or will not be funded.

Although we cannot promise you will obtain a job within a specific timeframe, many clients usually find a new role within 2-4 months. Recently, a director-level technology client accepted their dream job with a Fortune 100 company without the organization reviewing any applicants who had applied by uploading their resumes to the company's online career portal. This Klaxos client jumped to the front of the line, and you can do so by using our Recruiter Connect service.

Since 2012, 500+ global clients from every function, industry, and 60+ countries have rated us 5 stars. Read their stories to learn what you can expect. A job search is time-consuming and frustrating. It requires significant patience, a positive attitude, and persistence. The smarter, harder, and more efficient work you put into your search, the better your results will be. We are dedicated to giving you the best writing and job search advisory coaching to enable you to accomplish your career goals.

Do you write Academic CVs or federal government resumes?

In May 2010, the government started converting federal hiring to be more like the private sector. Part of the change was to agree to take business-private sector style resumes if they included the requirements of the federal job posting. It also eliminated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities KSAs from the initial application. For the previously described federal USAJOBS situations, our business-style resume writing, with a maximum of two pages, focusing on accomplishments, skills, and bullets for easy scanning by humans and ATS technology is a great fit.

However, a few offices still require the old federal government-style resume, which is usually 4 to 8 pages long, written in paragraph (not bullet) format, and listing comprehensive details of every employment position, focusing on responsibilities and duties and less on outcomes and achievements. We do NOT write those types of federal resumes. We do not write Academic CVs.

What is the timeline and turnaround time?

The resume and LinkedIn writing process will take approximately two weeks from beginning to end. Below is the procedure for our resume and LinkedIn profile writing services:

How do I get started?

Why haven't i heard from you after my purchase, what is your refund policy, can past clients have a discount.

Yes! It would be great to collaborate with you again. Changes have occurred in your life and career. You know recruiters will not wait 1-2 weeks for you to update your resume – they need it today. Ensure your resume has your latest experience, skills, certifications, and accomplishments. Send us your new information , and we will provide a discounted, custom price.

6 Important LinkedIn Profile and Resume-Writing Tips

7 min read · Updated on June 13, 2022

M.A. Smith

People make common resume and LinkedIn mistakes all the time — here's how to avoid them.

Job searching is much like buying a house. You convey your preferences, comfort zone, price range, and location.

You also learn the real-estate lingo and how to avoid items described with filler. You know “cozy” is another word for “small” and “needs a little work” means to run for the hills. It's these keywords that describe something — or someone — we cannot see for ourselves.

Much like prospective homeowners, hiring managers and recruiters learn to sift through cover letters, resumes and LinkedIn profiles. They know the filler language, and they search for candidates who meet their criteria without sounding ridiculous. They cringe at the sight of terms that are vague or too “buzzword-y.” This is a sign that the candidate doesn't know what they're doing, but wants to look like they do. You, as a job seeker, need to learn what to put on a resume and LinkedIn profile — and what not to.

Padding your resume and LinkedIn profile is dangerous, lazy, and unprofessional. Just because you've run out of things to say doesn't give you permission to jam your profile with unnecessary descriptions and adjectives. Rather than fill the pages with disconnected filler, show what you're capable of achieving for the company. Try replacing these common mistakes with quantifiable results by implementing these important LinkedIn profile tips, plus other resume writing examples.

1. Show them you're an achiever, not just a doer

Yes, most companies look for candidates who follow instructions, abide by industry standards, and use effective, proven methods. However, job seekers and candidates shouldn't stop there; this simply isn't enough. Show the company you can achieve higher results and take their brand to the next level.

With this in mind, statements like “responsible for…” and “job duties include…” don't cut it anymore and aren't things to include on a resume. Hiring managers don't want to see regurgitated job descriptions from the human resources department. Instead, they want to see what you really did to improve the company of your last job, so use strong descriptive verbs, not adjectives or adverbs, to describe your achievements. Here is an example:

Wrong: Responsible for maintaining strict inventory compliance.

Right: Reduced inventory waste by proactively monitoring all inventory requisitions and determining correct usage.

2. If you're a problem solver, prove it!

Saying you have problem-solving skills doesn't tell the recruiter anything — this could mean you played solitaire or crossword puzzles all day! Hiring managers and recruiters want real examples to understand how you solved problems. For instance, did you rectify aged accounts receivable or reduce downtime by 50 percent? Consider your past five positions. Ask yourself: “What achievements did I accomplish?” “Did I leave my mark on the company? How?” Look for quantifiable information — numbers, facts, figures, and data.

Next, go through your last five positions and make a list. Come up with 10 notable contributions and problems solved. Once you determine your top contributions to your previous companies, reduce each list to the three most important contributions. Place numbers and results before strategies. Here is an example:

Wrong: Built new accounts management system that reduced aged account receivables by 30 percent.

Right: Reduced aged receivables 30 percent by designing a new accountability system.

3. Be sure to eliminate mistakes

We all claim to be detailed-oriented; it's our perverse nature seeking to be recognized for accomplishments and contributions. There's nothing wrong with this — as long as it actually reflects your overall personality. Never claim to be detailed-oriented if you aren't. That's also not what to put on a resume. Instead, there are ways to convey this knowledge without actually saying it, like listing the achievements and problems solved from your past jobs.

The best method by far is eliminating mistakes from your resume and LinkedIn profile. There are few mistakes that are sure to lose a job during the job search faster than spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. One typo and all your claims of being detailed-oriented fly straight out the window. Use Microsoft Word to type all LinkedIn information, or at the very least, install the “freemium” Grammarly extension on your browser to help catch stray typos.

4. Remove the fluff from your words

Many professional resume writers and recruiters usually see these two common mistakes on resumes and LinkedIn profiles: not promoting yourself enough and over-promoting yourself. Either scenario is dangerous to a candidate, but the most dangerous is stuffing your content with fluff. Save the stuffing for the politicians. Here are two of the most common stuffers:

Self-starter: All candidates should be willing to do their job without the need for others to push them. Saying you are a self-starter sends the message you have no meaningful information to back it up or are underqualified for the job. The same sentiment goes for “highly motivated” and “results-driven.” Show real examples on your resume that prove you'll go the extra mile.

Team player: Hiring managers cringe when they read these lines. As with self-starter, they expect all candidates to play well with others. It seems to them as though you couldn't come up with anything better to say. If you want to convey that you work well in groups, give specific examples from your past work experience.

5. Did you say you're obsessive? We'll get back to you

No matter how much you love your work and want to give it your best, obsessive is never positive — and definitely not what to put on a perfect resume or LinkedIn profile. This is like saying “I'm creepy” or “Please like me.” It's weird, uncomfortable, and will probably get you escorted to the elevator.

On the other hand, passionate is never a bad thing to say. Use the career summary section to talk about your passion for the industry and give examples of the sector you love most and why. Show examples of past projects you were excited about, keeping the language professional and in the third person. Here are some examples:

Always Wrong: Journalism is such a great field. I'm obsessed with learning new things and writing about them for others to read.

Wrong: I love journalism. It gives me the opportunity to explore my passions.

Right: Professional journalist with experience delivering local news through diligent research and systematic interviews with a focus on truth and objectivity.

6. Never talk money until it's time

Salary negotiation is always is a tedious part of the employment process, but it has no place on a resume or LinkedIn profile. Never post your salary expectations online or say you expect a certain amount. Not only does this put you below candidates asking for less money, it gives the future employer or hiring manager the upper hand at the negotiation table. Plus, it's no one's business what you make or want to make. Let the recruiter or hiring manager approach you regarding this matter either during or after the interview.

Saying your salary is negotiable is another big mistake. Consider this the same as above — it's no one's business what you want to earn until they interview you. Plus, it makes you come across as a little desperate. Instead of focusing on salary at this point, focus on your qualifications. Show the recruiters you are worth what they are willing to pay. A little research doesn't hurt either; brush up on salary, benefits, and other perks of the role you're seeking using a site like Glassdoor .

Avoiding these mistakes is important because they can either make or break your chances for opportunities. Keeping your LinkedIn account active and your resume updated is also important. Spend at least one hour each week posting news, updating your information, connecting with colleagues, and researching your industry on LinkedIn. For your resume, spend at least one to two hours hour each month looking at areas on your resume in need of improvement. For example, you may receive a reward or promotion, or your department may pay for a seminar at the local university. Just remember these Linkedin profile and resume tips when you update as well.

How to download your resume from LinkedIn then? Is it just a single click and that’s it?

Yes! And no. But mostly yes! The thing is, there’s both a technical side and a content side to it.

While the technical side is pretty straightforward and quick, the content side of converting your LinkedIn profile to a resume can be a bit tricky. But that, of course, all depends on your profile.

How to download your resume from LinkedIn then?

  • Go to the top of our LinkedIn profile to resume converter web page (you can also simply scroll up, it’s this very web page)
  • Enter your LinkedIn profile’s address, and press the “Convert to Resume” button.
  • Review your newly imported LinkedIn resume, pick an ATS-friendly template, use our AI Writer to rewrite it, analyze it with our resume checker — Kickresume gives you plenty of tools to make your LinkedIn resume stand out.

However, you probably wouldn’t want to stop there. Your LinkedIn profile — and, by extension, your newly imported resume — probably isn’t yet tailored to a specific job opening. Leaving it as such would be a missed opportunity.

How to create a resume from LinkedIn?

You can easily import your LinkedIn profile to Kickresume and let the LinkedIn-to-resume converter do the rest. It only takes a few seconds.

This is how to create a resume from your LinkedIn profile:

  • Open your LinkedIn profile.
  • Select your profile’s public url (e.g. https://www.linkedin.com/in/your_name/) and press Ctrl+C (on Windows), or Command+C (on MacOS).
  • Now go to Kickresume’s LinkedIn import website: Convert Your LinkedIn Profile to a Resume .
  • Paste the link inside the designated field near the top of the page by pressing Ctrl+V (Windows) or Command+V (on MacOS).
  • Press “Convert to Resume”. This will take you to the website’s sign up screen.
  • Sign up using your preferred method (e.g. with your Google or Facebook account).
  • Kickresume will now import your LinkedIn profile and convert it into a resume.
  • Et voilà! You now have a complete resume in a random resume template from Kickresume.

How can I improve the resume I exported from LinkedIn?

Don’t forget to make at least some changes to your newly imported LinkedIn resume.

For instance, your resume can usually benefit from minor formatting changes , as some of the original LinkedIn formatting can get lost during the importing process.

You should also remove any LinkedIn-specific phrases from your new resume. You might not want phrase like “Let’s connect” or “Open to opportunities” appear on your resume.

Add resume-specific sections , such as hobbies or skills, and finally, tailor your new resume to each specific job opening you’re applying for.

Customize your resume’s visuals. You can choose from 40+ templates, explore more than one million design combinations, and make your resume more you.

Finally, you can even let AI rewrite your entire resume  using our AI Resume Rewriter . It’s easy to use and it will rewrite your resume in a language that sounds more professional.

I’ve created a resume from my LinkedIn profile. Can I download it for free?

Yes, you can. While it’s true that not all resume templates and customization options are free (we need to make money somehow), there are still several high-quality resume templates available.

At the end of the day, yes, you can download a full-fledged professional resume for free . Just make sure to avoid any features that are clearly marked with the “Premium” badge inside the app.

On the other hand, if you decide that you like the premium templates better — and would like to land your dream job faster with the help of Kickresume — you can always upgrade to Premium . We offer well-priced plans for every type of customer.

Can I customize the appearance of my new LinkedIn resume?

Yes! You can choose from more than 40 professionally-designed resume templates  and customize each template to your liking.

You can change nearly every part of your new resume. Each template comes with its own set of alternative color schemes and typefaces that were chosen by our expert typographers to complement the overall design.

What’s more, you can also create a cover letter with a design that matches your resume. We always create new templates in resume / cover letter pairs.

Ultimately, there are more than one million possible design combinations for you to explore. The sheer number of customization options gives you the ability to create a resume that stands out from the rest. All within reason, though — no matter how you customize your resume, our designers made sure it will always look good.

I’m having problems converting my LinkedIn to a resume. What should I do?

If you’re having problems converting your LinkedIn profile to a resume, there are two things you can do:

  • Make sure your LinkedIn is filled with enough content.  Remember that an empty profile makes for an equally empty resume. Fill your LinkedIn profile with at least 200 words. For best results, you should have at least the About, Experience, and Education sections of your profile filled with content. The more the merrier.
  • Make sure your profile is not set to private.  Our tool needs to have the ability to access your LinkedIn profile. If your profile is set to private, only your connections can view it. Set your profile to public and try importing your LinkedIn profile again.
  • Make sure that your profile is more than 30 days old.  Sometimes it takes a few days for Kickresume to access your profile. While this usually takes less than the aforementioned 30 days, this time period gives us a bit of an overhead when diagnosing problems related to LinkedIn import.

If you’ve done all of the above and you’re still unable to turn your LinkedIn profile into a resume, please contact our customer support (click the speech bubble icon in the bottom-right corner). Our customer support team is always more than happy to help.

How-To Geek

How to quickly generate a resume from your linkedin profile.

It's so easy that it almost feels like cheating.

Quick Links

How to generate a resume from your linkedin profile, generate a customized resume from your linkedin profile, bonus tip: download other linkedin members' resumes.

If you already have your work experience listed on your LinkedIn profile, it's easy to get the site to automatically generate a resume for you. Here's how to do it.

All LinkedIn profiles include a button to download the profile as a PDF . This PDF is basically your resume, containing all the experiences you've listed on LinkedIn. This includes your academics, work experiences, and everything else that you have on your profile.

Related: What Is a PDF File (and How Do I Open One)?

To download this quick resume, first, open LinkedIn in a web browser on your computer. When LinkedIn opens, click your profile icon at the top of the site and select "View Profile."

On the profile page, right beneath your profile picture, click the "More" option, and select "Save to PDF."

In a few moments, your browser will start downloading your resume PDF from LinkedIn.

That's all there is to generating a quick automatic resume from LinkedIn, but you might not want to send it exactly as it is to potential employers. In that case, check out the section below.

The resume that you downloaded above includes all the information that you have on your LinkedIn profile. If you want to add, edit, or delete certain sections of the resume, use LinkedIn's resume creation tool. It lets you choose what sections you want to include in or exclude from your resume. When you're happy with the result, you can download it as a PDF to your computer.

To start building your custom resume, open LinkedIn in your web browser. On LinkedIn, click your profile icon at the top-right corner and select "View Profile."

On the profile page, in the section at the top, select "More," and then click "Build a resume." This launches LinkedIn's resume creation tool in your browser.

In the "Select a Resume" pop-up that appears, click the "Create From Profile" button at the bottom.

In the following box that says "Choose your desired job title," click the "Job Title" box, and then enter your current job title. Then, select a title from the suggested options and click "Apply" at the bottom.

You're now on LinkedIn's resume creation tool screen. Here, you can add and exclude whatever information you want in your resume. To add or remove a section in your resume, click the pencil icon next to a section on the page.

The site will open a box with your selected section in it. Here, you can modify the contents of your section and click "Save" at the bottom of the box to save your changes. Or, you can click "Delete" to remove this section from your resume altogether.

When you've finished editing your resume, click "Preview" at the top of the LinkedIn site to preview your resume.

If you're happy with the result, click "More" at the top of the LinkedIn site, and then select "Download as PDF." This will download your resume as a PDF to your computer.

You're all set.

In addition to the ability to download your own resume, you can also download other LinkedIn members' resumes. You don't need to be connected with a member to be able to download their resume, but there's a limit of 200 downloads for others' resumes. (You can download your own resume an unlimited number of times, though.)

To download someone's profile, first, open their profile on LinkedIn . On the profile page, right beneath the cover image (the large image at the top of the page), click the "More" option, and then select "Save to PDF."

Your browser will start downloading a PDF resume of your selected LinkedIn member.

Professional LinkedIn Profile Writers

Are you looking to find a new job or impress others within the online working community? Owning an optimized LinkedIn profile is a great start. This is how I and many others have found great-paying jobs.

We narrowed down and provided a review of the nine best LinkedIn profile writing services (experts) to help maximize your profile.

Questions Answered

  • What is a LinkedIn profile writing service?
  • What to look for in a professional writer?
  • The top LinkedIn profile writing services
  • What are the advantages of using a profile writer?
  • How much does a makeover cost?

Empty. Outdated. Incomplete. Words that often describe …. our LinkedIn profiles? Luckily for those who aren’t amazing writers, there’s hope!

So, can I pay someone to write my LinkedIn profile?

Of course! If you’re unsure how to upgrade your profile, you should consider hiring a professional LinkedIn profile writer. A good LinkedIn writer will create a profile that uses relevant keywords to make you visible to potential employers.

The process is less stressful than doing it alone, especially when you don’t have the time or skills to write one properly.

“According to a 2019 study by ResumeGo, a comprehensive LinkedIn profile can increase your chances of landing a job interview by 71%.”

What is a LinkedIn Profile Writing Service?

Since LinkedIn started back in 2002, it has become the go-to professional network for businesses and workers alike. With over 700 million users and employers utilizing the channel to find quality job seekers, more and more people are reaching out for help.

A LinkedIn profile writing service is an upgrade/revamp of your current profile to make yourself more marketable to recruiters and hiring managers within the platform.

They will help paint a picture of your skills and accomplishments throughout the different sections of a LinkedIn profile.

What to Look for in your profile writer

  • Reviews – While reviews don’t always determine how great a service will be, it’s a solid start. Aim for quality reviews over quantity.
  • Overall Cost – Most of the services below will have a web page listing the cost of each of their writing packages. The lowest price isn’t always the best!
  • Package Deal – While your LinkedIn profile needs to be professionally written, so does your resume. Many services will offer package deals with both included.
  • Guarantee – Does the service provide a guarantee of some sort? Maybe unlimited edits until satisfied or a 100% money-back guarantee if it’s not what you expected.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are the advantages of using a linkedin profile writer.

A LinkedIn expert can help you through the entire process of upgrading your profile. Even if you have the proper skills and experiences, you can still struggle to capture a hiring manager’s attention when your LinkedIn profile is not done correctly.

Hiring someone with the right skills and knowledge to update your profile can go a long way in boosting your chances of being found and hired in the following ways:

  • When deciding to write your profile on your own, it can often end up weak and un-optimized, which potential employers may notice. An experienced LinkedIn profile writer already knows what should be included in your profile to ensure it highlights your skills. The writer will create a profile that connects with both recruiters and hiring managers.
  • An empty or outdated LinkedIn profile can be time-consuming to edit and update. When you use a LinkedIn profile writing service, you’re assured of getting your profile ready ASAP.
  • Updating a LinkedIn profile also involves incorporating the correct keywords. You may not know the best keywords to include in your profile for optimization and boosting your visibility. A LinkedIn expert knows many industry-related keywords that are proven to deliver results.
  • One thing that can prevent potential employers from contacting you is when your profile has spelling and syntax mistakes. A professional LinkedIn profile writer will proofread your profile to ensure there are no errors that can cost you the job.

How much does a LinkedIn profile makeover cost?

A LinkedIn Profile makeover can cost anywhere from $150 to over $500. Many writing services also bundle resume and cover letter writing into their packages, which can increase the overall price.

In our experience, these bundle/package deals are often worth the price saving you a ton of time if you’re looking to ramp up your job search.

Does LinkedIn provide resume writing services?

LinkedIn holds several different resume-writing service offerings. From individual freelancers to resume writing services like TopResume, you can find what you need through LinkedIn’s platform.

Wrapping Up | Professional LinkedIn Profile Writers

LinkedIn profile writing services exist for those who don’t have the time or aren’t able to tell the story of their experiences and accomplishments properly. To recap our favorite LinkedIn writing services:

  • Find My Profession
  • Resume Writing Lab
  • Let’s Eat Grandma
  • LinkedIn Profinder
  • LinkedIn Maker
  • Resume Footprint

If you want to boost your chances of getting noticed by employers and recruiting firms, consider consulting one of the above. We hope this helps, and best of luck with your profile!

I was amazed at how you can be so quick and yet so thorough. It would have taken me months to get the profile updated instead of a week – and it wouldn’t have been so well done.”

Pateel Papazian

It was definitely a worthwhile investment. My true credentials came out to be much more impressive in the new format.

Michael Jenkins

I worked with Jan Stone. She was great, professional, knowledgeable and very responsive. The real make-a-difference aspect was her ability to ask me good questions, listen to my reply, then give me feedback without making me feel silly because I have not been in a personal search for a long time, and then only once. I enjoyed speaking with her.

Scott Kilinski

Efficient and accurate. Good experience and saved me a lot of time!

Margaret Prestipino

Service was great. I needed to get my LinkedIn profile up to date, and received the assistance I needed

Marc Upchurch

Your service was excellent, it was everything that I was hoping for. The quality, format and content was nearly perfect.

Duane Kotsen

Thanks so much for your assistance on my LinkedIn profile – I am very proud of my professional accomplishments and am now proud of how these are conveyed via LinkedIn. You and Kathi were a pleasure to work with! – Duane

Daniel Bednar

My Branding Specialist was great. On top of simply writing up a good LinkedIn profile, she was very great to work with and had numerous very good ideas to enhance the impact of my profile.

Scott Benton

I thought the profile not only really captured my background and accomplishments but did it in a very engaging way.

Pete Lamont

I worked with Jill J and she was wonderful. The data collection form is comprehensive and gives the writer lots of material to work with. Also the two phone sessions were invaluable in capturing and clarifying information. My profile looks fantastic and markets my capabilities in a way I could never have done by myself. Thank you.

Jeremy Lieberman

Professional service in a timely manner and a thorough and high-quality final product. Completely satisfied and glad I outsourced it to the pros!

Hi Donna, My LinkedIn Makeover that your firm created is outstanding! Wendy Blessing did an amazing job on the profile and Alison Lorraine did an amazing job on my resume and cover letter! A million thanks, you guys rock!

Prince Nnah

Pam was amazing. She took her time to get to know me and write with her best judgment what represented me the most.

Bruce Dreblow

I thought the process was extremely well done. The person who worked on my profile listened to me, and then communicated my values and experiences in a very succinct but compelling final form. Very thorough and professional.

Ivan Shulman

Great job, exactly as promised! One issue addressed within a few hours and over my objection, they insisted on starting over! “Extremely Outrageous Customer Service”

Alicia Speight

“It was quick, easy and thorough. Very professional.”

Mary Brownell

Because I’m a writer, I was initially hesitant about having help with the revisions of my profile and whether or not someone else would attempt to shape my thoughts of myself in ways that might lead to a professional profile, but might not reflect who I am. My concern was needless. The LinkedIn Associate who took the lead in reviewing and ultimately revising my profile was not only a consummate professional but also completely personal and understanding of my hesitations. She worked diligently with me to find both the professional tone that my profile needed, but also to be true to myself in the ways that mattered to me. She listened to me carefully, figuring out what I was struggling to identify how I truly wanted to be viewed on LinkedIn. Subsequently, she created a profile draft that we reviewed together with very few changes, for she had captured all that I had hoped for in the language of LinkedIn, which is exactly what I needed. If need be, I know that I can reach out to her again and she would respond with professional knowledge and personal attention to detail. Thank you, Heather, many times over.

It was so exciting to have an expert consultant as my guide to helped me tell my unique story on LinkedIn! The business results were excellent!

Cathy Murphy

I have referred over 15 people to Donna and her company. She is hands down the best LinkedIn Makeover company out there. After using her service, I received 2 of my last job offers. They found me thanks to my stellar LinkedIn profile. I can’t recommend her more highly. It is worth every penny. Invest in yourself and work with Donna and her team to put your best foot forward!

John W. Robertson

I am very pleased with the high-level writing skills applied to my LinkedIn profile.

Fred Durand

I contacted LinkedIn-Makeover.com on a Thursday afternoon with an immediate need of an updated resume. I had received an unexpected opportunity, but I needed to have a great resume by the following Monday. LinkedIn-Makeover.com assigned a great resume writer that worked over the weekend with me, writing and revising my resume, until it met my satisfaction. The result was a great resume and… a new job!

Shelly Lowerison

I worked with Marissa and she was extremely professional and did an amazing job of capturing my work history much better than I could have myself. She was genuinely interested in “my story” and portraying that accurately on my profile. I have recommended LinkedIn-Makeover.com to several friends already and will continue to do so!

David Victor

I thought Richard did a great job, and the results are just what I was looking for. Not sure if I’ve shaken up the LinkedIn world yet, but at least my life and work are merged into “Me.” 🙂

Foster Taliaferro

Laurel Dowswell did a great job of tweaking my existing LinkedIn profile to make it more of a “branding document.” She was very receptive to my desires and offered very constructive feedback. I would recommend these services to anyone wanting a fresh approach to successful branding.

How To Write LinkedIn Work Experience Section (Examples & Tips)

resume writing and linkedin profile

Nikita Gupta

"Success is when who you are is lined up with what you do. A very effective way to bring your unique success story to life is through your LinkedIn Profile.”  ~LinkedIn

Whether you are a new graduate looking for your first job in the industry, professional thinking of a career switch, or a mother restarting a career after a break, an optimized LinkedIn Profile can take you places. This guide covers everything you need to know to update your LinkedIn Profile's experience section 👇

What is the experience section on LinkedIn?

Why do you need to craft the experience section carefully.

  • Few things you should take care of while crafting your profile's experience section.
  • Take inspiration from others' LinkedIn Profiles.

What are the different parts of the experience section?

  • How to curate an experience section that will help you stand out?

How to add new positions and edit or delete old jobs in the experience section?

  • Expert-led examples.

Here we go!

Before you start learning how to prepare the most effective experience section for your LinkedIn Profile, let me tell you that Careerflow’s LinkedIn Optimization tool can make job hunting easier. Also, check out Careerflow's free hiring search tool if you're having trouble finding hiring managers and recruiters at top tech companies and startups.

Let’s get started.

resume writing and linkedin profile

The “Experience” section of your LinkedIn Profile allows you to share your previous and current roles, positions of responsibilities, and details of your past work experience with your professional network. You can list your internships, contract positions, freelancing experience, and part-time jobs in this section. In short, it is part of your profile that gives a glimpse of your professional journey to your LinkedIn community.

Wondering then what's the difference between a resume and a LinkedIn Profile?

LinkedIn says: "While a resume is traditionally a straightforward listing of your experiences, a LinkedIn Profile gives you room to elaborate."

Nikita Gupta , a technical recruiter at Uber, hires talent for her company on LinkedIn.

She said: "While searching candidates on LinkedIn, the parts of LinkedIn Profiles that I pay most attention to are the Headline, the About section, and, of course, the Experience section. "

It's not just Nikita who looks at your experience section when checking your LinkedIn Profile-- there are many others as well.

Here are some reasons why you should have a well-crafted LinkedIn section on your profile.

  • A well-crafted experience section will increase the probability of hiring managers and recruiters reaching out to you. And secondly, if you reach out to someone in your network, this will greatly increase the possibility of you hearing back.
  • Adding work experience to the profile leads to 8 times more profile views, 5 times more connection requests, and 10 times more messages.
  • Members who include at least one position receive up to 3.5 times as many profile views.

Few things you should take care of while crafting your profile's experience section

1. always write descriptions in the first-person narrative.

“Your career story is more authentic when it’s told by you." - LinkedIn

Always write in the first person and follow a conversational writing style . While writing about your current role, use the present tense, and for all previous roles use the past tense.

2. Experiment. Analyze. Adapt

You can’t expect to get everything right in one go. LinkedIn is a professional platform that keeps evolving as per the demands of its users. It is likely that after reading this guide, you will want to try something that wasn't mentioned here. So, if you have enough time, you should definitely try it. We encourage experimentation. See what works and what doesn't for you.

3. Add relevant keywords and make your experience section search friendly

Many hiring managers and recruiters use “LinkedIn Recruiter” , the hiring platform of LinkedIn to find candidates thus they have access to many filters and targeted search options. They often narrow down their search results by skills, positions, titles, and locations.

So, read the job descriptions of the roles you are listing, pick some keywords from the description and add these to your experience section. In your LinkedIn Profile, for example, if you are listing the Software Engineer position, list keywords used by recruiters in job descriptions for the Software Engineer role in your experience section.

Bonus Tip 🔉: Use job search websites like Indeed, Glassdoor, AngelList, and LinkedIn jobs to find what keywords hiring managers and recruiters are using.

4. take inspiration from others' linkedin profiles.

Crafting an experience section all on your own can be a bit overwhelming. But remember you are not alone in this. Your professional network is the ultimate amplifier, so ask them for help. However, keep in mind that you may reach out to 10 people and only 3 will respond and ultimately, only 1 will agree to help you. But it's fine because you only need one to guide you.

But if you are looking for an easier way to update your LinkedIn Profile, Careerflow has got you covered. This tool gives you the best practices for each section of your LinkedIn Profile based on industry experts’ LinkedIn Profiles. Install a completely FREE LinkedIn Optimization Chrome Extension to boost your search visibility by 2.5x.

The key to crafting an impressive experience section is sound research. Follow these steps:

  • Check out the profiles of key leaders, experts, and influencers in your industry.
  • Take a peek at the profiles of your colleagues, classmates, and friends.
  • Ask your professional community the right questions.

According to LinkedIn's "Rock Your LinkedIn Profile" course, you should ask your network the following questions:

  • What words describe my work?
  • After you have had a conversation with me, what are the top three words you would use to describe the experience I created for you?
  • What can you count on me for?

While adding any new job role to your LinkedIn experience section, you need to fill in the following details:

Title- This is your official title or position at work.

For example, Software Engineer, Content Writer, Frontend Developer, Freelancer, Gym Trainer, Financial Manager, etc.

*This is a mandatory field.

Employment type- Though it is an optional field, adding an employment type is highly recommended because it represents your professional experience more accurately. LinkedIn provides country-specific employment types. However, some common types are contract, self-employed, part-time, full-time, internship, apprenticeship, and freelance. To learn more about each of these employment types check LinkedIn’s official guide .

Company name - This is the name of the organization you worked with or are currently working for. For example, Uber, Google, Apple, etc. While adding a company name, LinkedIn gives the option to tag the LinkedIn page of that company. If you do so, LinkedIn will tag your work experience to the company and the company's logo will appear alongside that job. Also, you will show up as an employee on the company's official page.

Location - This is your work location for that particular position. We have already discussed that recruiters filter candidates by location. Thus, if an employer sees that you have previous work experience in a certain geographical area, you may get preference over other candidates.

Description - In a nutshell, it is an overview of your work. You can use this section to describe your role and responsibilities, achievements, and the tech stack of your job.

Skills - LinkedIn recommends listing your top 5 skills for every position. Skills that you add to each experience also appear under the Skills section of your profile. Add skills to every job position because they appear just below the job description.

Media- LinkedIn gives you the option to add external documents, photos, sites, videos, and presentations to the experience section.

So many people ask-- how do you curate an experience section that will help me stand out?

The secret is that there is no secret.

But a few small things can have a big impact. Adding photos, videos, presentations, and documents related to your work in the experience section can help you stand out in a crowd of 875 million LinkedIn users .

The media plays a huge role. Use photos, videos, website links, and presentations. One of the easiest ways to differentiate yourself from the crowd is by using rich media.

How to write a description of the experience section on your LinkedIn Profile?

This is a field where you can describe your work in 2000 characters. A powerful job description can make all the difference. Here are a few tips 👇that will help you write a compelling experience section

1. Spend your words wisely

Every sentence you write costs the reader a few seconds. So make sure you use words wisely and don’t add any information that is not worth the reader’s time.

Remember - the shorter the better.

You can follow these tips to make the description more scannable for readers:

  • To maintain consistency, use a structured format and follow the same layout while listing every experience.
  • Add subheadings “Responsibilities”, “Achievements”, “Tech-stack”, “Tools” etc in your description.
  • Use bullet points, don’t write lengthy paragraphs.
  • Don’t use fancy vocabulary. The purpose is to communicate your work to the masses. The simpler it is, the more people will understand it.
  • Keep it clear and concise. Don’t overuse bullets while listing responsibilities and achievements.

Bonus Tip 🔉: You can also try using Google’s X by Y by Z formula – "Accomplished [X] as measured by [Y], by doing [Z]."

2. Use some action verbs

You can use action verbs like implemented, managed, directed, conducted, organized, reduced, saved, added, delegated, produced, launched, enhanced, refined, upgraded, trained, and built while describing your work.

3. Talk about your employer

You can begin your description by describing the company you work for and providing an overview of your job in 1-2 lines. This hack is especially useful if your company is lesser-known.  You can also talk about the team or the organizational unit you were part of.

4. Describe your responsibilities

Discuss the product or service you worked on. 3-4 bullet points will do justice to this part. For example:

  • If you are an engineer, which product did you work on, and which feature you updated or launched?
  • If you are a manager, which team do you manage?
  • If you are a tester, what tool do you use?

5. Highlight your key accomplishments

Do you know what is one of the most famous marketing tactics?

Capitalizing on the highest-quality results.

Yes, you got it! That's exactly what you need to do while marketing yourself to potential employers.

Forefront your key accomplishments!

Ask yourself questions like 👇:

  • What features did I contribute to the launch?
  • How fast did I achieve your targets?
  • If I increased sales, traffic, conversions, safety, customer satisfaction, and retention?
  • If I reduced website loading time and reduced costs?
  • Did I receive any awards and titles during my work tenure with the company?

6. Talk in numbers

When listing roles and responsibilities or achievements, use numbers and percentages. Quantify your job experiences with data (For example– Reduced website loading time by x percentage and improved user engagement time from X to Y).

Bonus Tip 🔉: While listing responsibilities and achievements use Google’s X by Y by Z formula– "Accomplished [X] as measured by [Y], by doing [Z]."

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to frequently asked questions 👇.

1. Should I add a career break to the experience section?

If you have taken a career break, don't be afraid to mention it. It helps recruiters understand breaks you've taken outside of regular employment. In fact, LinkedIn says “Experiences outside a linear career path can make people better colleagues, thought partners, and leaders.”

2. If I work somewhere for only 2-3 months, do I have to include it in my job experience?

You might have explored many different roles throughout your career, but you don’t need to add each of them to your profile. Be selective. In fact, we would encourage you to only add roles and jobs that are related to your target job role. This will help your potential employer assess what value you will bring to their organization.

If you are still unsure what to add or what to leave. Ask yourself one self-question– “What do I want to achieve with my profile?”

And most likely you will find your answer.

3. I do have access to all information, yet I am unable to revamp my LinkedIn Profile. What should I do?

Download Careerflow 's FREE LinkedIn Optimization Chrome extension ! In this tool, under each section of your LinkedIn Profile, you will find expert-backed suggestions, a tried-and-true checklist, and an easy-to-follow guide on how to optimize your LinkedIn Profile. If you need any further assistance, check out our LinkedIn Makeover service.

4. How do I list my freelancing experience on my LinkedIn Profile?

Add it as you would any other experience section to your LinkedIn Profile keeping the following points in mind.

  • In the "Title" field add the role you are freelancing in. For example, if you are providing web development services add "Web developer" to this field.
  • Choose "freelance" as the employment type.
  • If you are freelancing for a particular company, mention its name in the "Company name" field. If you will be working with multiple clients skip this field.

It's obvious that your online presence matters to recruiters and hiring managers. And in order to find suitable candidates for their companies, they review hundreds of profiles every day. This is why you need to optimize every section of your profile in order to unlock the true potential of your LinkedIn Profile.

And hence this guide equips you with a thorough understanding of the experience section of your LinkedIn Profile. Listing a position in the experience section isn't limited to adding a job title, company name, and employment dates. There are many more aspects involved in the process.

So here are some key points of this guide 👇

  • Check out others' profiles to get inspiration from a variety of sources.
  • Write 1-2 lines about your company followed by 3-4 bullet points under “Responsibilities” and "key achievements".
  • Include bite-sized yet insightful points in the description.
  • If needed use additional subheadings such as Tech-stack, tools, achievements, roles, responsibilities, etc.
  • Focus on experiences relevant to your target job roles.

All the best 👍!

Avoid these 10 clichéd business phrases on your linkedin profile.

Why did you say that?

A new survey of over 3,000 workers has identified the most-hated phrases in the professional world - a toxic collection of business buzzwords designed to derail even the most promising career. This list of loathed jargon , from Careerminds.com, will help you to avoid falling into a trap of clichés on your LinkedIn profile.

After all, if you are using catch phrases and platitudes to explain your background, or share your story on LinkedIn , you are potentially creating eye rolls instead of opportunities. These 10 buzzwords are the ones that employees dislike their managers using - and everyone finds exhausting.

At the end of the day, phrases like “at the end of the day” are filler words - empty phrases that need to retire, STAT, because they don’t communicate any value. Buzzwords, jargon and TLAs will rob you of real leadership communication.

Wondering what “TLAs” are? Here you go: “three-letter acronyms.”

Trying to talk like an “insider” can often leave your audience (both online and in-person) wondering what you are really trying to say - and why you are resorting to letters and tired catch phrases in order to say it. That’s no way to write your résumé , or carry on a conversation, if you want to be heard, listened to and understood.

Do you want to be cryptic, on your LinkedIn profile, or interview like a tech bro for your next role? Choose your answer - and your words - carefully.

Here are the 10 most detested corporate buzzwords in business. Interviewing tip: don’t go here.

Google Chrome Deadline—72 Hours To Update Or Delete Your Browser

Apple loop iphone 16 pro details ios 18 s ai plans iphone 14 pro special offer, zendaya tennis movie challengers gets streaming release date.

  • Act Your Wage - a reminder to stick to tasks designed for your pay grade, this snappy catchphrase is designed to keep you inside the box, with your mouth shut, and your head down. Has anyone ever said this to you, and you felt great about it? Skip the acting advice, and focus on what matters most.
  • Balls in the Air - a reference to juggling, as a metaphor for multitasking, this zippy piece of repartée lends itself to multiple meanings. This phrase underplays the real value you bring to a variety of tasks. Reframe in favor of something that literally (not metaphorically) points at your skills and abilities, with greater clarity.
  • Push the envelope - meaning you are willing to do more and exceed boundaries, this snippet of jargon begs the question, what’s inside the envelope? If it’s not clear what the “envelope” is, the fact that you pushed it is a big fat, “So what?” Clear communication isn’t just about your content. Context is what matters!
  • Effective accelerationism - say that 10 times fast. Perhaps this phrase points at speed to market? Missing the mark, the overall impact just sounds pretentious. Because wordism is not a thing. See what I did there?
  • Change Agent - driving innovation is something that always matters. However, real and lasting change doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Does this mean someone single-handedly transformed a culture, team or organization? Seems like you left out a detail, Gunga Din - namely, the other people that helped you on your Agent quest. Consider using the word catalyst instead, and try giving credit where credit is due. Because no agent survives in a vacuum.
  • Deliverables - my writing coach always told me, “Show, don’t tell.” Generic and general terms - like this one - rob you of the chance to share size, scope and other details. Do you want to write and speak in broad generalities, leaving out details and hoping that someone will guess what you mean, and somehow infer what you have to offer? If you are a leader, be explicit. Otherwise, your “deliverables” don’t deliver.
  • Bleeding Edge - where is this edge, exactly? Metaphors about edges can be exhausting. Why? Because this cryptic phrase feels like hype. Not every business or project needs to be amped up to infinity and beyond.
  • Mission Critical - is it? Better to say what the mission is, and be plain spoken about what you did. When managers use this phrase, team members hear a kind of “do-or-die” obligation inside of it. Do threats and high pressure make anyone perform better?
  • Idea Harvesting - right up there with “ideating,” this phrase is another word for brainstorming. According to the survey, this phrase can make employees feel that ideas are undervalued (being harvested like grain, perhaps? You know that grain is a commodity. Good ideas, not so much). But what really matters from your idea sesh is the outcome. What you discover is more important than the process - the “harvest” - so why not focus on what matters most?
  • Spidey Sense - We know that the ability to sense danger is something that Spider Man possesses. And we all know that Spider Man isn’t real. Talking about real issues and fears is an important aspect of transparency and vulnerability. Expressing real human emotion through a fictional character with powers bestowed from a radioactive spider (also not a real thing) is not effective communication.

Which of these words and phrases show up for you, in your daily conversations? If you’re using any of these buzzwords on your LinkedIn profile , it’s time for a refresh.

“By opting for clear and meaningful jargon, leaders can foster a more inclusive, engaging and productive environment,” according to Raymond Lee from Careerminds.com. Don’t let catch phrases and clichés speak for you - choose the words that will help you most, on your LinkedIn profile. And according to research, those words aren’t on this list.
