Hello! I am an associate professor of political science at the Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs at Syracuse University. I hold a PhD in Politics from Princeton University .

My research deals with refugees in international relations. My first book, Discrimination and Delegation: Explaining State Responses to Refugees (Oxford University Press, 2021), was awarded the Best Book Prize from the Migration and Citizenship section of the American Political Science Association, and the Distinguished Book Prize from the Ethnicity, Nationalism, & Migration Studies section of the International Studies Association. Previously, I received the Migration and Citizenship section’s Best Dissertation Award and was named an Emerging Diversity Scholar by the University of Michigan’s National Center for Institutional Diversity .

My research has been supported by the National Science Foundation , the American Philosophical Society , and the Gerda Henkel Foundation . My articles have appeared in American Political Science Review , Annual Review of Sociology , Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies , and other journals. I have also written for general readers in The Washington Post ’s Monkey Cage and have been quoted by media outlets including The New York Times , NPR , and CNN .

I am an associate editor at the Journal of Refugee Studies and a host of the political science podcast channel of the New Books Network , among other service roles.

The Qualitative Data Repository (QDR) is a dedicated archive for storing and sharing digital data (and accompanying documentation) generated or collected through qualitative and multi-method research in the social sciences. The Philosophy Club aims to take philosophy out of the classroom by hosting informal discussions, guest lectures, movie nights, philosophy cafes (thought experiments and games with coffee and cookies), professional development workshops and more. Degree Requirements

The Juris Doctor/Master of Arts and Juris Doctor/Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science are joint degrees which may be conferred by the College of Law and the Syracuse University Political Science Department. Students enrolled in these programs may obtain their J.D./M.A. or J.D./Ph.D. in Political Science in substantially less time than would be normally required if both programs were separately pursued.
