IGNOU PhD in Nursing Admission 2024 | Eligibility & Fee Details

IGNOU PhD in Nursing Admission 2024-25: 31 December 2023 was the last date for IGNOU PhD Nursing admission in the January session. Applicants can apply for the PhD in Nursing program at the official website @ignouphdjuly23.samarth.edu.in . IGNOU Ph.D. in Nursing admission has been closed for the 2024 January academic session. Eligibility for a PhD in Nursing is a master’s degree admission depends on the entrance exam and also the results of the entrance.

The application fee for the PhD in Nursing entrance exam is Rs. 1000/- , and it is non-refundable. The entrance exam for admission to the PhD in Nursing program is scheduled for 7 January 2024 , and it will be administered by IGNOU University. Importantly, there will be no negative marking in the entrance exam.

The syllabus of the entrance test is Research Methodology and Statistics (50 Marks), Nursing Education (20 Marks), Nursing Management (20 Marks), and Specialization area of Nursing (10 Marks).

Duration: The duration of this course is about 3 to 6 years.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University admission portal has closed for PhD Nursing programs in the January 2024 academic session. IGNOU Ph.D. Nursing admission’s last date was 31 December 2023 for the January session, students application forms fill out on the official website by visiting the official portal @ignouphdjuly23.samarth.edu.in. IGNOU PhD registration fee is INR 300. The Nursing admission personal interview is closed now.

The IGNOU PhD in Nursing has a minimum duration of three years and a maximum duration of six years. Women candidates and Persons with Disabilities (more than 40% disability) may be allowed an additional two-year relaxation for completing their Ph.D.

IGNOU PhD in Nursing Admission Eligibility Criteria

Students who want to pursue a Ph.D. in Nursing course, have to clear these entrance tests: NET, SLET, GATE, JEST, etc. They are selected after a presentation of research work decided through Interviews.

Students will be eligible to apply for the IGNOU PhD program if he/she carries 55% Master’s degree/M.Phil.
Students are required to complete coursework in the form of assignments and presentations, which will be evaluated internally by the PhD Coordinators of the Nursing Discipline.
Qualifies for the national entrance examination administered by IGNOU.
Those who have graduated with an M. Sc. in Nursing and also have five years’ experience in Teaching, Industry, Administration, Professional, and Clinical fields are eligible for IGNOU PhD in Nursing admission.

IGNOU PhD in Nursing Admission Fees

Doctor of Philosophy in the nursing programme completed within three years at IGNOU. The course fee for this course is INR 16,800 . This course develops within 6 semesters, and the fee charges are paid for each semester separately. Registration for the PhD in Nursing course costs Rs. 1000/ .

Visit the official website of the IGNOU and select the online admission option.
Now register on it using a username and password.
Received mail and saved all its data for later use.
Carefully add all details in the form.
When the form filling is complete, recheck all details.
When you are satisfied that all the information, fill in the form is correct, then submit it.

IGNOU PhD in Nursing Entrance Exam for academic admission 2024 has been conducted. The date for the entrance exam is 8 January 2024 (Tentative) for IGNOU PhD in Nursing. Students must prepare for the entrance exam through the previous question papers and nursing research studies.

In the PhD (Nursing) entrance exam, 50% of the questions are based on methodology, and 50% are based on nursing subject studies. NTA is the organization that conducts the entrance examination.

Click on the button NEW REGISTRTION that appears in the applicant login area and fill the required registration details.
Fill in the UserName and password in the appropriate columns correctly.
Remember, while choosing your UserName it must be in between 8 to 16 characters.
While choosing your password it must be alphanumeric and between 8 to 16 characters long.
After filling the mandatory information click the "SUBMIT" button.
Your username will be instantly sent to you via e-mail and SMS.
Remember your Username and Password for subsequent login.
If you have already registered i.e you are an existing user click the "LOGIN" button.

After the final submission of online application form, download the filled in application form, take the printout and enclose the hardcopies/photocopies of all the documents and certificates as mentioned in the student handbook and prospectus to be submitted during counseling for final admission.

Instructions pertaining to Reservation of Seats, Fees and Exam pattern for PhD Entrance Test – 2022

The number of seats to be advertised in different categories (GEN/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) is as per the Reservation Policy for Research Degree Programmes and DOPT,Govt of India .norms amended from time to time. Appendix II of the Information Brochure may be referred in this regard.
Five percent (5%) seats shall be reserved for Persons with Disabilities (with not less than 40% disability). However such candidates shall be adjusted against the appropriate category (Gen/SC/ST/OBC/EWS) to which they belong (Ref.Annexure II of Information Brochure 2022).
Submission of application forms will be online only. Entrance Examination is compulsory for all candidates including MPhil / NET / JRF etc., for admission to Research Degree Programmes. No exemption from appearing for the Entrance Test is permissible.
Application Fee for submission of online application is Rs 1000.
Application fee is non-refundable.
No request for change in category, shall be entertained once the application has been successfully submitted.
Applicants are advised to submit onle application only, as the Entrance Test shall be conducted for all the Programmes on the same day.
Eligibility for appearing in the Entrance Test is subject to the candidate fulfilling the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed in the IGNOU Regulations for conduct of Research Programmes which is as under:

A candidate will be eligible for admission and registration for the PhD programme, provided he/she:

8. In case, a candidate does not meet these minimum eligibility criteria and appears in the written examination, it is at the candidate’s own risk and cost, and if at any stage, it is found that the minimum eligibility requirements are not fulfilled, the admission, if granted, shall be cancelled ipso facto.

9. Weightage of Entrance Test is 70% and 30% weightage is for the Interview.

10. 50% is the qualifying marks in the Entrance Test for Open Category. For SC/ST/OBC, EWS /PWD, the qualifying mark is 45% .

11. Admission to the Ph.D Degree Programmes is strictly on merit, based on the performance in the Entrance Test and Interview taken together.

Syllabus and Question paper

a) The syllabus of the Entrance Test is as per the ‘University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of MPhil / PhD Degrees) Regulations, 2022 comprising 50% on Research methodology and 50% on specific subject.
b) The question paper shall have questions consisting of 50% on research methodology and 50% on specific subject .

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has opened the application form for BEd, PhD and BSc Nursing entrance tests. The entrance test for admission to programmes including BEd, PhD and BSc Nursing will be held in January, 2023. Candidates can fill the IGNOU application form for BEd, PhD and BSc Nursing entrance tests till December 20, 2022. While announcing the start of application for the entrance tests, IGNOU in a statement said that no hard copies will be accepted and candidates can check the eligibility, syllabus and paper pattern for the entrance test on the IGNOU official website -- ignou.ac.in.

While the application link for BEd entrance test for admission at IGNOU is eportal.ignou.ac.in/entrancebed, it is ignouphd.samarth.edu.in for PhD entrance test and ignounursing.samarth.edu.in for BSc Nursing entrance examination.

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will close the online registration process for the PhD, BEd and BSc Nursing entrance exam today, January 3. Interested candidates can register for IGNOU admissions 2024 through the official website, ignou.ac.in. The IGNOU registration window 2024 will close at 5 pm.

The IGNOU PhD entrance test for the July session and the IGNOU BSc Nursing and BEd entrance test for the January 2024 session will be held on January 7, 2024.

The examination will be conducted for a duration of 2 hours 30 minutes. Earlier, the application deadline was December 31.

However, the application deadline was extended and during this period candidates have to pay a late fee of Rs 200. Entrance test will have 70% weightage and 30% weightage will be given to the interview round for PhD admission.

“The last date for submission of Online Application Form for Ph.D. (For July 2023 Session), B.Sc. Nursing & B. Ed. (For January, 2024 Session) has been extended till 3rd January, 2024 up to 05:00 P.M with a late fee of Rs.200,” IGNOU official notification said.

As per the official notification, the entrance test for admission to Bachelor of Education (BEd), Post Basic BSc Nursing [BScN(PB)], and PhD programs will be conducted on January 7, 2024. The exam will be conducted for two hours for B.Ed, 2.5 hours for BSc Nursing, and three hours for PhD candidates.

Is there an option to submit application forms offline?

There is only one option available for applying, and it must be done on the university website, ignou.ac.in. A fee of Rs. 1,000 is required for application, and it must be paid through Credit Card, Debit Card, Online Banking or other accepted online methods.

What is the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible for a B.Ed program, candidates must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks either in their bachelor's degree or in their master's degree in Sciences, Social Sciences, Commerce or Humanities. Alternatively, candidates who have completed a Bachelor's in Engineering or Technology with a specialization in Science and Mathematics, with at least 55% marks or any other equivalent qualification, are also eligible. There is no age limit for admission. The BSc Nursing program will be taught in English and has a minimum duration of 3 years, with a maximum of 6 years.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is inviting online applications for admission to three programmes through an entrance test. The three programmes are Bachelor of Education (BEd), Post Basic BSc Nursing [BScN(PB)] and PhD.

Interested candidates have time till December 31, 2023 to apply for these programmes. Admissions will be conducted through an entrance test, which is scheduled to be conducted on January 7, 2024. The exam will be conducted for two hours for BEd, 2.5 hours for BSc Nursing and three hours for PhD candidates.

Candidates should remember that no application forms in hard copy will be accepted. All registrations must be completed online through the University website — ignou.ac.in. The application fee is Rs 1000.

To be eligible for BEd, candidates should have at least 50 per cent marks either in the bachelor’s degree and /or in the master’s degree in Sciences/Social Sciences/ Commerce/ Humanities. Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialisation in Science and Mathematics with 55 per cent marks or any other qualifications equivalent. There is no age bar for admission.

The BSc Nursing programme will be taught in English, and the minimum duration of the course is three years, and six years maximum.

University of Wisconsin nursing deans lobbied for money to graduate more nurses. Then DEI questions arose

Nursing school deans across the state were hopeful around this time last year. They were working with a Republican state senator on a plan to increase student enrollment and graduate more nurses.

But concerns about diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI, became a sticking point in the process and played a role in the plan stalling out, according to recently released emails obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The records offer another example of how DEI is influencing the legislative process and reshaping how higher education leaders respond.

Leading the failed effort were state Sen. Rachael Cabral-Guevara, R-Appleton, and Kim Litwack, dean of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Nursing. Litwack told the other UW nursing school deans last June that Cabral-Guevara had the votes in the Senate to give the six UW nursing schools $1 million each, as well as $3 million to private institutions with nursing schools.

There was a caveat.

"IF … we can somehow separate UW nursing from the UW DEI issue that Robin Vos is hot about," Litwack wrote to the other nursing deans, referring to the Republican Assembly speaker who last year launched a campaign against DEI programming on UW campuses. "He is willing to support the nursing initiative IF we can find a way, truthfully, to talk about our way of doing things."

The Legislature never took up Cabral-Guevara's proposal to get nursing schools more money. The records don't show why the plan didn't pan out. Vos did not return requests for comment, nor did Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu, R-Oostburg.

Cabral-Guevara's office declined an interview request. Her chief of staff, Ryan Retza, said DEI "was not the sole reason the proposal did not come to fruition." Other nursing-related budget priorities "were given emphasis," such as a nurse educators program that Republicans continued funding at $5 million per year but declined to increase to $10 million annually as Democratic Gov. Tony Evers requested.

“This is one budget project that just simply was not able to pan out successfully,” Cabral-Guevara said in a statement to the Journal Sentinel about her plan. “The proposal would have supported our nursing students and schools, boosting retention and improving access to programs.”

UW nursing deans discuss DEI policies within their schools

Emails show Cabral-Guevara reached out to Litwack in March 2023 about nursing education legislation she was crafting. The state senator is a nurse practitioner who previously taught at the UW-Oshkosh College of Nursing.

Modeling by the state Department of Workforce Development shows Wisconsin is expected to be short by about 20,000 nurses by 2040.

Litwack asked the other deans at UW-Madison, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Green Bay, UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point for feedback on Cabral-Guevara's proposal. The records, which were part of a broader Journal Sentinel request that took the UW System nine months to turn over, show the deans agreed on a plan to increase enrollment by 10% over two years.

In mid-June, Litwack told the other deans Cabral-Guevara told her she had enough votes in her chamber but DEI remained a concern for Vos. Litwack said she explained to the senator how nursing colleges' accrediting bodies encourage a holistic admissions process that considers factors beyond GPA, how hospitals prioritize diversifying their workforce and how health outcomes improve when patients identify with their caregivers.

"I explained and Rachel being a nurse gets it," Litwack wrote, but she asked the deans for help explaining their position. She also asked them to confirm whether their schools gave extra points for diversity in the admissions process or employed their own diversity officer.

UW-Green Bay nursing dean Christine Vandenhouten thanked Litwack for "taking on this behemoth of an issue" and answered Litwack's questions.

"Good luck," Vandenhouten signed at the end of the email.

Litwack then asked about schools' pronoun policies and mandatory diversity statements. She said UWM didn't require students to designate their pronouns but respected students who made their own requests.

Seon Yoon Chung of UW-Oshkosh confirmed the nursing college has no personal-pronoun requirement, no diversity statement mandate and no diversity officer.

Vandenhouten weighed in again, saying UW-Green Bay also didn't require students to declare personal pronouns or sign a diversity statement. "Good grief," she wrote.

"This is all coming from RV, not Rachel," Litwack emailed back, referring to Vos.

Litwack did not respond to an interview request. UWM referred the request to the UW System. UW System spokesperson Mark Pitsch in a statement offered appreciation to Evers and the Legislature for past nursing program funding and said additional money would "help us increase our capacity to train the next generation of nurses our state desperately needs."

DEI dispute entangled University of Wisconsin for months

Three days after the email exchange among the deans appeared to end, the GOP-controlled budget committee cut the UW System's budget by $32 million , the estimated amount spent on salaries of DEI employees. Republican lawmakers said campuses shouldn't force students to view the world through a racial lens.

The temporary cut launched a six-month budget standoff that ended when Vos reached a deal with UW System President Jay Rothman and UW-Madison Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin last December. The agreement required campuses to restructure 43 DEI positions, among other provisions.

The deal also reversed the $32 million cut but redirected the money toward workforce development initiatives. Under this plan, nursing schools received $4.5 million more, but the UW System's overall budget held flat.

Patricia D’Antonio, PhD, Transitions from Standing Faculty

Patricia D’Antonio, PhD, RN, FAAN , the Carol E. Ware Professor in Mental Health Nursing, Professor of Nursing, and an internationally recognized historian of nursing and leader in nursing education, will transition from her faculty role on June 30th, 2024.

D’Antonio’s research demonstrates nurses’ strong influence on health, social mobility, diversity, and the development of cultural and health care norms. She has a record of accomplishment of consistent funding, including fellowships from the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and the American Academy of Nursing. She is a Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics and has co-authored seven books. Her most recent work, Nursing with a Message: Public Health Demonstration Projects in New York City, 1920-1940 , was featured by the Rockefeller Archive Center and awarded the Choice Outstanding Academic title. Her work argues that nurses were central in promoting the current norms of primary care within a health care system that reflected and refracted political, gendered, racialized norms, and it highlights how nurses supported economically and racially marginalized families’ equitable access to services available to white, middle-class families. In her earlier book, American Nursing: A History of Knowledge, Power, and the Meaning of Work , D’Antonio drew on firsthand accounts by White and African American men and women nurses to discover how strong gender and racial hierarchies reinforced how these groups historically viewed themselves and each other and underscored the importance of forging a strong nursing identity to bridge some of the historical divides within systems of care and education.

From 2015-2023, D’Antonio served as Director of Penn Nursing’s Barbara Bates Center for the Study of the History of Nursing . From 2010-2020, she served as Chair of the Department of Family and Community Health. She championed and supported the development of faculty in their academic, research, and service roles. D’Antonio has impacted faculty, staff, and students with her deep knowledge of nursing and commitment to excellence. In her teaching, she helps students focus on using history to analyze contemporary issues in health care practice, health policy, and public health.

D’Antonio has received many awards including the President’s Award from the American Association for the History of Nursing; the Nursing Outlook Excellence in Policy Award; the 2015 Dean’s Award for Exemplary Citizenship; the M. Adelaide Nutting Award from the American Association for the History of Nursing; four American Journal of Nursing ‘Book of the Year’ awards; and was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau’s International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame in 2018. She received her BS degree Boston College School of Nursing; her MSN from Catholic University of America; and her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.
