The assignment task
The assignment task is used to assign a value to user-defined variables in Workflow Manager.
Before you can define a variable in the assignment task, you need to add the variable in Workflow Manager. To add a variable to the Workflow, perform the following steps:
A new variable is created, as shown in the preceding screenshot. The new variable that is created is $$NEWVARIABLE1 . You can ...

User-Defined Workflow Variables
- 1. Create a workflow variable with an initial value.
- 2. Configure the workflow to assign a run-time value to the variable.
- 3. Use the variable in a conditional sequence flow or in a task field so that the Data Integration Service uses the variable value at run time.
Creating a User-Defined Variable
- - In the workflow Properties view, click the Variables tab. In the User view, click Add .
- - In a task Properties view, select the Input tab or Output tab. Select New Variable in the Value or Variable column.

You can assign a value to a user-defined workflow variable with the Assignment task. To use an Assignment task in the workflow, first create and add the Assignment task to the workflow. Then configure the Assignment task to assign values or expressions to user-defined variables.
Solution. For a better understanding and as a good start, see IDD Implementation Guide > "Custom Task Assignment" and proceed. After installing MDM Hub Server, assignment of tasks is performed using the default method, which is as follows: MDM Hub Server at Runtime.
Before you can use an Assignment task to assign a value to a user-defined workflow variable, you must create the workflow variable with an initial value. Add an Assignment task to the workflow. Select the Assignment task in the editor.
ASSIGNMENT TASK&EVENT TASK IN INFORMATICA
HOW TO: Make the task assignment work using create task API in MDM. 1) For Solution, enter CR with a Workaround if a direct Solution is not available. 2) For HOW TO, enter the procedure in steps. 3) For FAQ, keep your answer crisp with examples. 4) For Whitepaper, keep the content conceptual.
In the advanced task flow, the IO parameter from the second Mapping Task can be set to the value passed by the first Tasks' IO parameter using an assignment step or by setting the Input fields in the Data Step which triggers the second task.
The assignment task is used to assign a value to user-defined variables in Workflow Manager. Before you can define a variable in the assignment task, you need to add the variable in Workflow Manager.
Assignment step. When you add an Assignment step, you can configure the following properties: Name. The name of the Assignment step. The name can contain only alphanumeric characters, underscores (_), spaces, and Unicode characters. The name can't contain curly brackets {}.
Decision task not picking up the eventtype value from file watcher. Even tried using assignment task with a temporary variable as described in the below article. Still it didnt work, the flow keeps going to else flow.
You can add an Assignment task to the workflow to assign another value to the variable. The Data Integration Service uses the assigned value for the variable during the remainder of the workflow. For example, you create a counter variable and set the initial value to 0.
