My Most Embarrassing Moment Essay: Don't Be Shy To Tell

Did you know that stories about awkward moments make people more creative? This fact was discovered by researchers from the Kellogg School of Management. As the authors of the study explain, voicing embarrassing situations, a person removes the barrier of self-censorship and is ready for non-standard solutions. That is why high school teachers often give the assignment to write an embarrassing moment essay to their students.

My Most Embarrassing Moment Essay Sample

1. delve into the nature of the essay, 2. opt for the exact story, 3. a strong hook is a good start, 4. draw an outline, 5. describe, don't tell, 6. write an insightful conclusion, pay attention.

Just like the peer-reviewed articles, it was one of my friends' birthdays. My friend wanted to celebrate the day beautifully, so he invited many people. Actually, the date of his birthday was October 21st. What happened in my mind I don't know - I just forgot the date and as you know that these happened long past, and we did not have the facilities of mobile phones, and the only way of communication distantly was a land phone, and unfortunately, I did not have any landline in my house. Another problem happened that the school was also closed on some occasions. Because of that, I had no regular communication with my friends. I remember the date as October 22nd though the date was one day behind. I prepared for the day's celebration and bought an expensive gift for my friend, which I felt would pass for a proper my most memorable moment essay.

While I was buying the gift for my friend, he and our friends were celebrating the birthday because the date was October 21st. As I thought the date was October 22nd, I went to my friend's house with the gift. At first, my reaction was very awkward because I saw neither anybody nor any festive look there. I did not understand what happened there, why there was nothing special - thinking that I just tapped on the calling bell of my friend's house. Hearing the bell, my friend's mom opened the door and became amazed to explore me with a gift. She said, "Hi, how are you? Why didn't you come yesterday?" I became perplexed, and I asked her what happened. She replied that yesterday was my friend's birthday. Suddenly my friend, Jimmie, came out and scolded me for not participating in the birthday celebration. I became dumbfounded and explained everything. He was convinced and served me some slices of his birthday cake and other foods which were prepared on his birthday. I was just embarrassed in front of two people - my friend and his mom. I did not know that the worse thing is waiting for me the next day.

Furthermore, I thought that my embarrassment had ended there, but it did not. I think it was all for the success of my most embarrassing moment essay. The next day I went to school and noticed that some of my friends were laughing at me. I didn't ask why they were behaving like that, but I was beginning to understand. When I entered the classroom, everyone just burst out laughing. Everyone already knew about my mistake with my friend's birthday. It is difficult to describe in words what I felt at that moment. But it really was the most embarrassing moment I have ever experienced.

Embarrassing Moment Essay: What To Pay Attention To and What Not To Miss

Each of us has experienced some embarrassing moments in his or her life. Such moments usually make us laugh or, conversely, sad. At such moments we remember. It's not always pleasant to tell someone, but sometimes it can be your task in high school. How to overcome shame and competently and interestingly tell the reader about your embarrassing incident?

6 Tips On How To Create Your Embarrassing Moments Essay

You will describe the most embarrassing moment in the form of a personal narrative essay. What is a personal essay? There are many good definitions of this type of essay, but what we like most is this:

A personal essay is a short autobiographical story that includes some life situations that characterize you in a certain way. This type of writing involves a creative approach, and therefore it can have a free essay structure. In an experience essay, a person tells something very personal, even intimate. It is full of excitement and emotions. At the end of the embarrassing moment essay, the author analyzes how he or she was affected by a situation, whether it changed him or her or not.

"Embarrassing moments of my life" is your unique story. However, such moments happen in everyone's life - in school years or in adult life. It can be a story about the first day in a new team, an awkward event on holiday, a story about when you did not complete an English task, or how you forgot a new friend's name. Close your eyes and remember the same story that made you go through a storm of emotions. That's what you need to put on paper. Here's what the following stories might look like:

"It was in 2000 when I was 20 years old. Before I didn't have any plane journey, so it was the very expected thing for me. The same day came - the day of my first flight. So I got a little excited and arrived at the airport. I took my seat, and it was just beside a window because I like to look outside.

I really wanted to breathe fresh air outside. So I started looking for a way to open the window. But I failed to do so. I noticed that some of the passengers looked at me in great surprise. But I saw a hostess nearby. I asked her where the window locks so that I can open it. Hearing that, many passengers started smiling. I realized that something went wrong, and I felt shy. The air hostess was polite enough to reply to me by just saying - sir, the windows of a plane can not be opened because of the risk factor. I immediately understood that it was very embarrassing. The journey was around one hour long, and all the way, and I could not look at other passengers as I felt so shy."

"My most embarrassing experience" essay should interest the reader from the first words. Find the same hook that will immediately catch the audience. Here are some good hook essay examples:

"Once, a "grandfather" came to me for an interview for a digital marketer, who had completed all Google and Facebook courses on the recommendation of his daughter, but absolutely did not understand the task, my slang, and why everyone in the office was three times younger."

"Once, the candidate asked his best friend (a good specialist) to go for an interview instead of himself. He went and ... got a job and worked there successfully."

In the introduction, you set the tone and reveal the topic of your essay.

Although an essay on an embarrassing thing does not have a clear organizational structure, you should still organize your thoughts. Just write on a piece of paper what and how you will write about. The introduction should include a hook and a statement. Describe the situation in the body of the paper, and in the end, tell how it affected you.

"I was ashamed."

"This situation made my voice tremble. My knees buckled, there was a lump in my throat. I want to get out of there as soon as possible. It wasn't me, I never felt so embarrassed."

Feel the difference between these two examples? Your task is to write as shown in the second version. You can't just write how you felt, you need to try to describe your condition as vividly as possible. The reader must imagine the full picture and feel what you felt.

A good conclusion gives the reader a sense of completeness. You can return to your lead to complete the circle. Repeat your statement to end the story that changed you.

It happens that you have something to tell, but you can not properly arrange it. In such cases, it is better to seek professional help in the essay writing service. You need to remember that your work must be free of plagiarism and written in an appropriate format (APA, MLA, Chicago). Professional writers will ensure compliance with all these requirements.

my whole elementary school was a never ending embarrassment, jeez i was such an awkward child

Feeling embarrassed is such a funny thing tbh. You cringe so much at first but then it's the best story at the party lol

This has to be one of the most humorous essays of this genre I've come across. I also enjoyed how descriptive it was; it really accentuated the mental picture the writer was trying to paint for the reader. I find stories like this funny and intriguing. Essays that have to do with the embarrassing incident, like this one, can be one hell of a good read. My favorite part has to be the conclusion where the whole class burst out laughing.

I can easily relate to being embarrassed on several occasions. Perhaps, that's what growing up is all about. I didn't know that writing about such moments ever led to creative ideas. As a student, I always feel that college is the best place to enjoy life. Still, the same place is home to many embarrassing experiences. After reading this blog, I understood why teachers emphasize essays about personal episodes. In my life, I have always written a narrative of such moments in a personal diary or as instructed by my English teacher.bIt's great to know these tips. I believe they will help me accept my shortcomings deeply.

Writing is always such a struggle in high school, even on such a creative topic like this one. The information was really helpful. Thank you so much.

If I didn't come around this article, I would spend my whole spring break fruitlessly trying to write even a draft. I've had enough awkward moments in my life, and I will never forget how once I fell through the ice during Christmas vacation. Now I know exactly how to start and finish my story. So perfect, thank you.

One day, I was playing with my toy car, making it zoom across the room. Suddenly, it went under the sofa. I tried to reach it but got stuck! My head was poking out from one side and feet from the other. My parents saw this and started laughing. They took a funny picture before helping me out. Even my little sister giggled. Now, whenever we see that picture, we all laugh together. It was a silly day but it made us all happy. Now, I always check where my car is going so I don’t get stuck again!

Paragraph on A Funny Incident In Your Life in 200 Words

One sunny afternoon, my family decided to go for a picnic in the park. I was really excited and packed a big bag full of my favorite toys. As we reached the park, I saw a big, fluffy squirrel running around. I thought it would be fun to play with it, so I ran after the squirrel. As I was running, I didn’t notice a banana peel lying on the ground. I slipped on it and tumbled down a small hill, my toys flying everywhere. My family rushed to me, worried, but when they saw I was alright, they started laughing. I was covered in leaves and had a toy dinosaur stuck in my hair! Even the squirrel seemed to chuckle from a tree nearby. At first, I was a bit embarrassed, but then I started laughing too. It was the funniest picnic we ever had. Now, every time we go to the park, we always remember to watch out for banana peels and cheeky squirrels! This funny incident taught me to be more careful and made our family picnic a day to remember.

Paragraph on A Funny Incident In Your Life in 250 Words

One sunny afternoon, my best friend and I decided to bake a cake. We were both eager but had no idea about the actual process. We found a recipe on the internet and started gathering the ingredients. Flour, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract – everything was ready. We mixed all the ingredients and poured the batter into the cake pan. With our hearts full of excitement, we put the pan in the oven and set the timer for 30 minutes. As we waited, we imagined the delicious, fluffy cake we would soon enjoy. But our daydreaming was interrupted by a strange smell. Rushing to the oven, we saw smoke billowing out! In our excitement, we had forgotten to preheat the oven. The cake was burnt to a crisp! We quickly turned off the oven and opened all the windows to let the smoke out. Our faces were covered in soot and our kitchen was a mess. The sight of our blackened cake and our sooty faces was so funny that we couldn’t help but laugh. Despite the disaster, we had so much fun that day. We learned a valuable lesson about the importance of following instructions and preheating the oven. This funny incident is one of my favorite memories because it reminds me of the joy of learning through mistakes.

  • March 18, 2021

Funny incidents keep happening in our life. They often happen unexpectedly as surprises.

Some years back, one such funny incident happened in my life. It was a bit dangerous as well as funny.

I had gone to the village in which my grandmother, grandfather and other elders lived. It was located in Kolkata South 24 Parganas. I had gone there for a 7-day vacation. I had made many friends there with whom I liked to play. I loved going there with my family because of the beautiful environment. All around the houses were trees and shrubs-spectacular greenery. Also, there were numerous green fields.

A Funny Incident in my life

One fine day, when I was walking through one of the green fields alone, I could see a green coloured object lying curled at a distance. I walked a bit closer and had a look at it.

I realized that it was a dangerous and poisonous snake. I was really afraid of it and turned slightly pale. I thought that it would bite me.

A Funny Incident in my life

Immediately I ran back home and started screaming! My grandfather calmed me down and went to that spot with some of the elders and my friends. I was really shocked to see that the snake lay in the same position and had not moved at all.

My grandfather then lifted the ‘snake’ and gave it to the horribly scared me. At that very moment, I could hear peals of laughter from my friends.

Once the object was in my hand, I realized that it was a stupid and silly rubber toy resembling a snake.

I cried and laughed at the same time!

Later, I came to know from my friends that this was done to make me an “April Fool” as it was the 1st of April, 2017.

Sample Answer 1

One unforgettable funny incident that happened to me occurred during my first year of college. It was the time of our annual fest, and the atmosphere was charged with excitement. My friends and I had volunteered for the event's organization, and we were bustling around, making sure everything was in place for the evening's performances. In the midst of this chaos, I was assigned the task of arranging the props on stage for the drama competition.

Eager to impress, I decided to speed things up by carrying more props than I could handle. As I strutted across the stage, laden with an assortment of items, I didn't notice a banana peel (a prop for one of the plays) lying in my path. In what seemed like a scene straight out of a slapstick comedy, I stepped on the peel and performed an unintentional acrobatic display, ending with a spectacular fall, props flying everywhere.

The audience, which had started to gather for the next performance, erupted into laughter. For a moment, I lay there, stunned, before joining in the laughter myself. It was a moment of pure, unadulterated humor, reminding everyone that sometimes, it's the unplanned moments that bring the most joy.

Follow-up Questions and Answers:

Q1: How did you feel immediately after the fall?

A1: Initially, I was mortified, fearing I had ruined the props and embarrassed myself in front of a crowd. However, the laughter from the audience and my friends helped me quickly see the humorous side, and I ended up laughing at myself too.

Q2: What was the reaction of your friends?

A2: My friends were initially concerned but soon burst into laughter upon realizing I was unhurt. Their teasing about my 'stage debut' became a running joke throughout college.

Q3: Did this incident change your approach to tasks?

A3: Absolutely, it taught me the importance of not overburdening myself and the value of taking things one step at a time. It was a humorous lesson in balancing enthusiasm with practicality.

Q4: Do you often recall this incident?

A4: Yes, it's become a cherished memory among my college friends and me. It serves as a reminder not to take life too seriously and to find humor in mishaps.

Q5: Would you say this incident helped you grow?

A5: Definitely. It was a humbling experience that taught me the importance of resilience and finding joy in life's unexpected moments.

Sample Answer 2

Another humorous incident that comes to mind happened during a family holiday in the mountains. My family decided to take a hike to a nearby waterfall, renowned for its breathtaking beauty. Armed with snacks, water, and my trusty camera, I was determined to capture every moment of this adventure.

As we reached the waterfall, I spotted the perfect rock to take a photo from. It was slightly away from the path and offered an unobstructed view of the waterfall. In my excitement to get the perfect shot, I failed to notice that the rock was slick with moss. As I triumphantly stepped onto it, my feet slipped out from under me, and I found myself plunging into the shallow water below.

The shock of the cold water took a moment to register before I surfaced, spluttering but unharmed. My family, after ensuring I was okay, couldn't contain their laughter. There I was, soaked to the bone in the middle of our hike, with nothing dry to change into. The rest of the day saw me squelching along in my wet clothes, a constant reminder of my misadventure.

Q1: What was your initial reaction to falling into the water?

A1: I was shocked and a bit embarrassed, especially since I prided myself on being careful. The cold water was a surprise, but I quickly found the humor in my situation.

Q2: How did your family react to this incident?

A2: After ensuring I was safe, my family erupted into laughter. They teased me for my 'dramatic' way of cooling off and ensured the incident was well-documented with photos.

Q3: Did this incident impact your enthusiasm for photography?

A3: Not at all. If anything, it reinforced my passion for capturing life's moments, albeit with a bit more caution towards where I stand.

Q4: Is this a memory you cherish from your trip?

A4: Absolutely. It's a funny story that we often reminisce about when talking about our travels. It reminds us of the fun and unpredictable nature of family trips.

Q5: What lesson did you learn from this experience?

A5: The biggest lesson was to always be aware of my surroundings and maybe to not go to great lengths (or depths) for the perfect photo. It also taught me the value of laughter and not taking myself too seriously.

An Experience That Changed My Life Essay | Life Changing Experiences, Long and Short Essays on Life Changing Experiences

October 1, 2021 by Prasanna

Experience That Changed My Life Essay: It is rightly said that ‘Experience is the best teacher.’ Experience teaches a lot more things. Life gives you many experiences and certain experiences in your life can impact you a lot. In life we all have faced some or the other experience that has changed the way we perceive things. Through these life lessons we can learn a lot about ourselves and how strong we can be in difficult situations and circumstances.

Long Essay on Experience that Changed My Life 500 Words in English

Sometimes things are out of our control and we can’t do anything about it. Experiences can be good and sometimes terrible that results in a positive or negative impact on one’s life. Life is full of many unexpected challenges and unknown turning points that will come along any time. People must learn and grow from every experience that they go through in life rather than losing yourself. Change is a part of life. Life gives many experiences almost every day.

An experience that changed my life was on 21st August 2004. One of my biggest life changing experiences was the time when I lost my father suddenly. Till that very day I was a very immature and jolly person. I don’t know what the worries were. I was the eldest one in my family. But as we lost the head of our family life took a new turning point in my life I had to take charge of all the decisions made which I had never done before. My mother was not in a state to understand anything. I started making big decisions even about finances, about our house and many more.

When my father died, my life had changed completely. I lost him in my own lap. He took his last breath and it was very heartbreaking. Accepting his loss was one of the hardest things that I’ve ever had to do. It was very hard because it was unpredictable. I let all my emotions out, because I had to remember to take care of myself and my family too. Now it was the time for me to be more responsible.

His death made me an introvert, more responsible, think for myself and my family, and see things differently. Now that he is gone, I have to take charge of many things. My father was my counselor, my friend, my guidance, and most of all my motivator. I feel completely lonely without him.

I also experienced how people were falsely claiming that he is a family member of theirs and they will take care of me and my family, but two weeks after the cremation they were the same as before with no sympathy. I finally got a glimpse of the real world who are my real well wishers and who are not. Looking back at all of this I realized how important my father was to me. Now I am a more focused and responsible person. I still feel my father lives through me. Even though my father is gone he still guides me at each and every point of life. His death made me an introvert, think for myself and my family, and live life practically. I wish I could thank him for making me a better person. It was his inspirations which made me handle things in a proper way.

Short Essay on Experience that Changed My Life

According to me, experiences are very important to forge our personality over time. From very childhood I grew up in a nurturing and loving environment where I always felt safe and loved. My parents always made me feel important. I was a stubborn child. I used to throw tantrums if things didn’t go my way. I was a very demanding child as well, though my mother loved me unconditionally. My mother was very patient and compassionate and used to explain things so well to make me understand why things couldn’t always be how I wanted them to be. But as a child I never wanted to understand her preachings. But then once on a school trip to an orphanage totally changed my view towards life.

Orphanage is the place where the orphans (children who are homeless having no parents) are taken care of.

Once when I was in Grade 4 our school planned an educational trip to an orphanage institute. We were asked to bring whatever we wanted to donate. My mother gave me some of my old toys, clothes and some sweets. We collected a good amount of material to distribute.

As we entered the orphanage all the kids gathered in a hall. There were children of all ages. They strayed at us with eyes full of hope. We were asked to distribute the things and spent some time with them. They were so excited to receive these old things. In conversation with them we came to know that they have only two to three dresses to wear. One plate and a bowl for their food. Even the food served to them was always the same and limited. They don’t have many varieties of food to eat. They have toys in common to play with. These children don’t know the meaning of love, care and affection. They cannot demand for anything. The plight of every child was so miserable.I realised all my mistakes. I realised fortunate I am to receive all the luxury.

I never liked it when my parents reprimanded me for not studying properly, when I made blunders, when I didn’t listen to them but there was a concern behind every word that they said. They took care of me at every juncture of my lives no matter what their condition.

But I felt so sorry for these children because they are lacking all those words of care, anger, and love.

Visiting the orphanage is a life changing experience for me. From that day I started appreciating the little things in life. I never demanded for unexpected things. I feel like helping every needy person.

I also started understanding my mother’s preachings and with her help, over time, I learned how to deal with my emotions and situations and these experiences shaped my behavior and personality.

I feel extremely fortunate that I have parents with me and they provide me all the luxury. I am thankful to them.

funny experience in my life essay

Last week, we asked our readers: What is the funniest thing that happened in your childhood?

This week’s question: What is your life motto, and why?

To take part, drop us a line via this form or email us at [email protected] by 11.59pm on December 1. Tell us your name, age and school.

When I was five years old, I, for some odd reason, always mixed up 1 with 7. One day, our teacher asked us to complete “1” book report during the summer holidays. You are right! I did 7 instead! I was really tired after working day and night. I kept blaming the teacher, but it was all my fault.

However, there was a happy ending. The teacher appreciated my hard work and decided to make me the class monitor! Tsang Chung-ming, 14, St Mark’s Secondary School

Our most useless talents

A funny and most embarrassing thing happened when I was around three years old. My father asked me to join a long queue so that I could win HK$100. Out of curiosity, I agreed. But things became a little weird. People kept staring at me like I’m a freak.

When I finally reached the end of the line, I realised that I was inside a female toilet! It was the first time I felt so embarrassed in my life. My father still thinks it’s funny, me not so much. Owen Chan Ho-yeung, 13, Sha Tin Methodist College

It all happened when I was four. One day, I was watching TV while my mum dozed off on the sofa. Suddenly an advertisement caught my eye. It said: “LSL toothpaste, eat it if you want to.” I was fascinated. An edible toothpaste! I thought I must try it.

The next day, my mum took me to the supermarket, and I talked her into buying that toothpaste. Once I got home. I grabbed it and ran straight to the toilet. I ate half the tube. Mum found out and asked, “Do you know what you did, my boy? Does it taste good?” I was speechless. We laugh a lot every time we talk about it. Daris Chan Ka-wing, 12, CCC Heep Woh College

Thinking of a million ways to meet Santa Claus. Every Christmas, I received gifts from Santa and I was really curious about how he came into my house.

I thought of putting sand on the floor to trace his footprints, and tried staying up late and peeking through the door gap to catch Father Christmas. My curiosity about Santa brought out the creative (and stupid) side of me. Audrey Yeung, 14, Christian Alliance International School

Probably trying to hatch eggs. When I was a kid, I wanted to hatch eggs like chickens do. So I slept with an egg in my hands for several days. I didn’t dare move, thinking that the egg will break.

I was very excited and looking forward to seeing it hatch one day. But nothing happened despite my wholehearted effort. I was heartbroken at the time, but when I think about it now, I consider it the funniest thing I ever did. Zeng Man-long, 15, NTHYK Tai Po District Secondary School

What’s something you’re terrible at, but wish you did well?

Back in the days when I was learning to paint, I was obsessed with colours. Every time I used red and yellow paint, I thought I smelled strawberries and lemon gummy bears out of nowhere.

It’s hard to describe how appetising it was. So one day I “ate” the paint. It was the first and last time I did that. I am sure all paint must taste the same! Heidi Wan Yu-yin, 14, CNEC Christian College

When I was in kindergarten, I drew on my face with a marker pen. I remember I cried a lot because my parents couldn’t remove the colours from my face for almost a week. My classmates laughed at me. It was a funny – and scary – experience. Daniel Lam King-fui, 14, Carmel Bunnan Tong Memorial Secondary School

The things teens do better than adults

Our primary school maths teacher asked one of my classmates to tackle a question. She said it was very easy. My classmate gave the correct answer but she said it was wrong.

We persuaded the teacher to make the calculation on her mobile phone and then she found out that she had made a mistake. My classmates and I laughed. It was very funny. Coco Chan Tsz-yan, 14, CNEC Christian College

When I was small, I thought teachers didn’t have mothers.

During an English lesson in Primary One, my teacher was talking about her family and I was shocked that she had a mother. I asked her: “You have a mum?!” Ironically, the class didn’t laugh. They, too, seemed surprised that the teacher had a mum. The teacher laughed and said: “Of course, I have a mum! You think I was born on a rock?”

Thinking back, I really miss the days when I was a pure and innocent child, asking dumb questions, and bringing joy and laughter to my older self. I hope my teacher still remembers this hilarious incident. Yolanda Xiao Yu-ching, 13, St Paul’s Co-Educational College

I mistook someone else for my mum at Disneyland. There was a lady who wore the same shirt and pants as my mum so I ended up following her. It took me a while to realise that it wasn’t my mum. Then I started running around looking for her. Finally, I gave her a call and we were reunited. Ardales Jennica, 13, Ho Yu College and Primary School (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen)

Essay on Funniest Day of My Life

February 19, 2018 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Happiness means a bounty of joy, happiness is to smile and let go off the worries from our mind. Happiness brings in a lot of cheer and joy on our faces.

Having fun is nothing but relaxing and soothing our senses doing something that we love, involving in something that brings immense happiness from within.

Children till the age of 5 are allowed to indulge in a lot of fun activities at school. Core learning comes much later in their lives. The first priority is given to learning with fun.

Why is it so important to have fun at that age? The point is, children at a tender age learn whatever they can only when they are allowed to do so in an atmosphere of fun.

Fun learning provides open minds to let out their creative sides and bring out the best in them.

We all have fun and frolic when we are together with our friends, families and like-minded groups. Being together creates a sense of happiness and sends positive vibrations around the place.

Happy chats and timely sense of humor create a happy environment and people just enjoy cracking funny jokes and also have fun pulling each others’ legs.

This is quite common in our society where people take time out to spend them with near and dear ones or during vacations and picnics.

One such event which later became the funniest day of my life was when I attended a laughter event near my place.

The laughter event was organized by a group of literature enthusiasts and they brought out common examples from everyday lives, dealt with how we make common mistakes in day to day activities, created a light sense of humor about relationships and expressed comic sense of humor.

Table of Contents

Fun Unlimited

The laughter event began on a bright Sunday morning in July, 2003 at the National grounds, Bangalore.

The organizers had turned the whole place into a big paradise by making all the necessary arrangements for good lighting, ambiance, seating for the audience, water supplies, food provisions and stalls, etc.

The stage was decorated with necessary items to match up with the theme and necessary floral decorations and lighting arrangements were done in full zeal.

The inauguration of the program began with the chief guest lighting the lamp and thereby marking the event open.

The audience space was fully occupied and there were hardly any vacant seats at the very beginning of the event. People started pouring in thousands by the time the chief guest finished his inaugural speech.

Poets from various genres of literature and stand up comedians waited for their turn to showcase their talents and make the whole gathering burst in laughter.

We occupied seats somewhere in the middle of the entire ground and visual arrangements were done in the best way to make the stage visible from any corner of the ground.

Arrangements were also made to telecast the show on popular television channels sometime later. The event also marked felicitation of a number of comedians in the television field.

Popular comedians came on stage turn by turn to show their sense of humor and we could see the whole crowd jump in laughter.

We initially thought that the event would be a mild laughter event as it had more of literature connections to it.

But to our surprise, this happened to be one mega laughter event that tickled our bones to such an extent that many people almost fell down from their chairs laughing out.

The comedians tickled our bones so well that we had to tell ourselves to control our laughter, lest we start suffering from stomach aches and back aches.

People who were seated in their chairs began getting up and enjoying the event and clapped in applause to encourage participants and show them how much fun the event had garnered.

Why I Remember That Day

I can never forget this particular down and it is definitely a green day in my memories as it bought with, some unseen surprise things in it.

Participants in the event took real life examples and explained it in such a humorous way that it becomes so difficult for us to imagine anything close to that in reality.

We wondered if these participants ever had any place for anger in their lives. They looked so calm and full of energy that they were a total package of laughter that could make any person laugh on this earth.

They had such amazing talents that their normal way so speaking itself became a reason to laugh for all of us.

The participants were also dressed in appropriate costumes that looked so funny that there was nothing more left to be described about them.

With just their entry, people started bursting out in laughter and encouraged them to do more.

Wearing the right kind of costumes and presenting appropriate comedy actions together with timely delivery of dialogues made the stage look like a big arena of unlimited fun and laughter.

Every big act was carefully enacted on the stage by carrying a message with it.

Themes ranged from preservation of trees, water conservation, garbage recycling, plying of green autos, power consumption issues, saving food for the needy, etc.

Each theme was presented with utmost care by different groups that sent the message across to the people in the funniest manner possible, yet delivering the message in their own unique ways.

The event was planned till evening, so we had food arrangements made for the day. Sumptuous lunch was offered to the entire audience in the form of food packets and everything from water to snacks was organized so well that people were dumb struck with their efforts.

Comedians interacted with the audience from time to time and asked for their feedback between acts to know the feel from their side. Obviously, the audience were gung-ho with their efforts and asked for more.

The Take from the Event

The event concluded in the evening and pamphlets were issued regarding similar events in coming days. Light snacks were provided with coffee/tea arrangements for the audience and the participants.

Towards the end of the day, people were still asking for more entertainment, but owing to the continuous efforts put in by the participants since morning, they were allowed for some break by the organizers.

They say sad faces are the ones who truly hide their sorrow and try to make others happy. Smiling faces everywhere, right from small kids to senior citizens and the crowd knew nothing but to laugh and laugh more.

People had spent a day off by being part of this mega event. They had for a while, kept all their tensions and worries aside and enjoyed in sheer laughter.

Each act sent out a strong message to the audience and they wondered why they all saw it till now, but never actually realized the theme in its entirety.

The audience could thoroughly relate to all the themes as they dealt with common issues and this was obvious from the good remarks the groups received at the end of the event.

People appreciated the organizers and the participants for showcasing their talents and working on exhibiting their skills to people with an intention to bring laughter on all faces.

The costumes and props used were totally re-usable and nothing at all was wasted. Food was served with proper care and made sure that nothing was wasted.

The lighting arrangements were so much in sync with the staged event that people forgot about the place they were actually sitting in.

The message sent out from the event was very clear. Everybody has problems in their life, nobody leads life without problems.

But the way we handle these problems creates all the difference. We can choose either to face problems as part of our life with a smile on our face or become impatient and aggressive while trying to overcome those problems.

Spending time with families and bringing a little smile on each other’s face creates a long way in nurturing relationships and bringing families close together.

Children learn when they are in a happy environment. Such events also talk about the importance of laughter in our lives and how a little moment of joy spent with our family can create long lasting bonding even with a total stranger.

I have a painful condition known as the ‘suicide disease.’ This is how I got my life back

Jackie Galgey at hospital

Jackie Galgey, 45, is a media professional, children's book author and mom of two. After learning she had trigeminal neuralgia and undergoing two brain surgeries, she's also now an advocate for the rare and chronic facial pain disorder. Galgey shared her story with TODAY.com to raise awareness of the painful condition and how she was able to take her own life back after years of chronic pain.

On a weeklong business trip to Japan in fall 2019, I felt a shock of pain in my face, as if someone was stabbing me. The moments were fleeting — as quickly as they started, they stopped. At first, I wondered if a long flight from New York City to Tokyo contributed to the sensation. But as my time in Japan continued, the bouts of pain increased in frequency and I began wondering if I was experiencing seizures or a more serious health issue. Even though I worried about the 13-hour-long return flight, I was hesitant to seek medical care so far from home. Amazingly, my flight was pain-free.

Still, I knew I needed to see a doctor, and the day after returning home, I went to an emergency room. I explained I was having shocking pains on the right side of my face, and they did a CT scan that did not show anything wrong. Doctors thought perhaps I was having trouble with my teeth because a dental issue could cause pain around the eyes, nose and mouth. Even though my teeth weren’t bothering me, I followed up with my dentist anyway.

At that examination, my dentist noticed that my teeth weren’t causing troubles. But she had an idea of what could be amiss. She asked if I had ever heard of trigeminal neuralgia, and recommended I see a neurologist. I had never heard of it, but she explained that it causes sharp pains in the face , usually on one side, that can occur intermittently or constantly.

For a few weeks, I suffered in agony as I waited for my neurologist appointment. While the pain started off infrequently and felt like a sharp jab, much like receiving an allergy shot, over the weeks it progressed and severe pain was almost constant.

The neurologist believed I had trigeminal neuralgia and suggested I have an MRI to confirm the diagnosis. He noted that a CT scan cannot image nerves and blood vessels, which is likely why I wasn’t given a diagnosis at the emergency room. The trigeminal nerve goes from the brain to the face and branches out into three locations (hence the tri in the name). One branch runs along the scalp, providing sensation there. The second branch provides feeling to the cheek, jaw, top lip, upper teeth and gums, while the third branch provides sensitivity to the lower jaw, teeth and gums.

Jackie Galgey at hospital

When a blood vessel compresses the trigeminal nerve, it causes trigeminal neuralgia. My MRI showed that a blood vessel wrapped around the nerves in my brain. While doctors theorized that maybe dental work caused it, we’ll likely never know for certain why I suddenly developed the condition. Doctors first tried treating me with anti-seizure medication. For about six months, I lived a mostly pain-free life. If pain broke through, doctors upped the dose of my medicine to quell the pain. But that came with other problems: the medication had some serious side effects, such as intense brain fog , balance troubles and speech issues. When I was on a low dose, the side effects didn’t impact me too much. But as doctors had to increase the dosage, the side effects worsened and I developed a stutter.

When the pain broke through, it felt like an electric shock — or like someone was actually stabbing me in the face. Sometimes I’d call it a “stab and go,” when the pain was fleeting. Other times, it felt as if someone was thrusting a knife in my face, pulling it out and doing it again and again. If I ate or laughed, that would trigger the pain, making me shy away from social situations that could cause a flare. It felt overwhelming when the medicine became less effective, and the neurologist would have to up the dose or add another medication.

As time passed, the medication alone was no longer enough. The doctor added in another medication that caused serious balance issues. I couldn’t even walk in a straight line, and it dramatically slowed my reflexes. I worried about driving my children, who were 4 and 2 at the time.

After more than a year of pain with little relief, I spoke with a neurosurgeon about surgery. Doctors would open my skull and place a small divider between the blood vessel and the nerve to stop the compression. If successful, I would return to a pain-free life. Even though I knew the recovery would take a long time and be difficult with a career and family, I felt like I needed to try it because I couldn’t really function anymore.

Ahead of the surgery, I felt really isolated. Few people have heard of my condition, and I didn’t know anyone in real life who had it. I found others with the same condition on Reddit and many of them experienced such intense pain they considered suicide. In fact, I learned that people with trigeminal neuralgia have nicknamed the condition “the suicide disease" because of how often they experience suicidal ideation . Luckily, I had a strong support system and never contemplated that myself.

Jackie Galgey at hospital

When I woke from surgery, I still felt shocks of pain in my face, but they subsided after about a week. My doctor decided that I should be weaned off the anti-seizure medications at this point. When I did that, the jolts of pain returned. The surgery hadn’t worked. The surgeon believed I had so much nerve damage and this was how I was always going to be and prescribed me medications again.

I felt hopeless. I began withdrawing from loved ones because my stutter became so pronounced and I never knew when the pain would incapacitate me. When a flare began, tears would run down my cheeks, and I'd hunch over or try to hide my face. If someone tried talking to me at school drop-off or pickup, for example, I’d wave and run in the other direction. I simply did not know how to manage the pain and be myself. Prior to this was I bubbly and outgoing, but trigeminal neuralgia changed me.

In November 2022 I was laid off from work. I had been preparing for a sabbatical so I could rest and recover when the layoffs occurred. But the stress from losing my job increased the number of pain attacks I experienced. I was on the maximum dose of medications, yet I still felt no relief.

I visited another neurosurgeon who conducted another MRI on me and discovered something shocking: There was a second compression on my trigeminal nerve. Somehow it had been missed the first time I had scans and surgery. After much thought, I decided to have surgery again. This time I understood what the procedure and recovery were like.

I grappled with the decision. Was a second brain surgery the best thing to do? Could I live with this pain? Could I be a shell of my former self? I’d cry at night thinking of how I’d never be the joyful, fun person I once was. That’s how I knew I needed to try again.

Still, I grappled with the decision. Was a second brain surgery the best thing to do? Could I live with this pain? Could I be a shell of my former self? I’d cry at night thinking of how I’d never be the joyful, fun person I once was. That’s how I knew I needed to try again.

In January 2023, I had the second surgery. When I woke, I was completely pain-free. I experienced some numbness near my mouth and eyebrow. The latter has gone away but I still feel like I had a shot of Novocain in my bottom lip. I did have a complication where I developed a staph infection from the incision site and needed to be hospitalized to treat it, which was scary. But I've recovered.

Jackie Galgey selfie

When I was weaned off the drugs again, the pain didn’t return — but my personality did. I could think clearly again. I was able to start running again, enjoy mothering my two children, being a wife and engaging in social activities again. This summer, I'm even going to compete on an Olympics-themed episode of the NBC game show, “Password.”

I still have trigeminal neuralgia because symptoms can lay dormant for some time before returning. But I consider myself to be in remission — and I hope I'll stay in it forever.

I was 40 when I received my diagnosis, which is young to develop trigeminal neuralgia. Onset normally occurs at 50, according to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons . It’s a challenging condition for people to have and I hope that my story and recovery provides people with trigeminal neuralgia some comfort, and I also encourage them to advocate for themselves. Recovery is possible.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Jackie Galgey is a media professional, children's book author and advocate for people with trigeminal neuralgia. Meghan Holohan is a health reporter for TODAY.
