You can use the homework calendar template as is or you can edit it to suit your needs. Add your list of assignments below. Add each assignment to the calendar on the due date. Assignment tracker

What is a homework planner?

This is a planner to track your homework and assignments to ensure that you prepare and submit everything on time. An assignment planner can keep track of all your assignments and is a great tool for priority management. However, if you have other obligations such as tests, social and family gatherings, etc, it might be better to prepare a planner that takes all your obligations into account. If you have a family gathering the day before a test, then you will know you will need to start studying one day earlier than you would have. If you don’t keep track of deadlines and everything you need to do, you might find yourself stressed or too late to get everything done. Planning will take the stress out of school and help you be more productive and organized.

How to use an assignment tracker?

Learning how to manage your time is an essential skill that will be needed later on in life as well. Time management is something that sets efficient people apart from those who do not manage their time well and get little done or even fall apart when stressed. Our job as parents is to give our children the skills and tools to manage their time well and get things done, even when they have a lot on their plate.

Start helping your kids to get organized when they are young. Help them write their assignments in their planner. Help them organize their time and schedule. The younger they are, the less they have on their plate. This is the time to help them acquire the skills they will need when they are older and obligations start to become more overwhelming. Remind your kids to review their planner regularly until it becomes a habit. By the time they are older, in high school or college, they will be able to manage their time efficiently.

It isn’t enough to write assignments and homework in a planner when you receive them. In order for a planner to be efficient, you will need to review it regularly. Start a daily habit where you check your homework calendar daily to see what needs to be done. This should be part of your child’s daily routine. If it isn’t feasible to check daily, then it should happen at least once or twice a week. If that doesn’t work, then try setting reminders on your phone.

How to make a homework planner?

Choose whether you want a weekly assignment planner or a daily or monthly planner. Whatever works for you. Scan the templates on this page and see which one you think will be the most helpful. If you like it as-is then download the PDF version. If you prefer to edit it to meet your specific needs then select the Microsoft Word version and edit as you please. Make it work for you.

If you feel comfortable using a spreadsheet then try the assignment deadline spreadsheet template above.

If you are a college student, then you might want a comprehensive student planner that includes a homework tracker:

Why Keep a Homework Planner?

You can get many benefits as a student if you choose to keep a planner for your homework and assignments. With it, you will be able to improve your productivity, especially if you have a part-time job . It would be best if you have this planner to ensure that you dedicate enough time to each task and complete them all successfully. This way, you will increase your productivity and, hence, achieve better and higher-quality output.

This planner will help you plan your time properly . With a planner, you can manage your time wisely, which will help you meet your deadlines and avoid any stress. In addition, a planner will help you improve your organisational skills. That means you will be a more organized student with fewer instances of forgetfulness and confusion. You will learn how to keep your commitments and meet your deadlines.

Another important aspect of the planner is that you will be able to track your achievements and goals. Making a list of your assignments, homework, and to-do lists in your planner will help you track what you have completed and what is still pending. This planner will also make you more responsible. This means, with a planner, you are more likely to develop a sense of responsibility that will ensure you remain focused on your school tasks and achieve all your goals as planned.

How to Create a Homework Planner?

You need to know how to create this planner because having one is important and beneficial. You can use any of the ways mentioned below to create your own planner according to your requirements.

Explained below are the five ways you can create your planner:

Method 1: Design your own homework planner

  • Choose all the planning sheets you will need in your planner. This may include a monthly calendar, a weekly planning sheet, and a daily to-do list . You can use sticky notes to add information to your calendar or choose to use sticky notes to add important details to specific dates.
  • The next step is to download free templates for different kinds of sheets that you have chosen for your homework planner and then print them. You can use notebook paper, blank printing paper, or other printed papers for printing, depending on your style and planning design.
  • You should then organize your papers in a way that you want them to appear in your planner. You can start with the monthly sheets, then the weekly ones, and finally the daily papers. Because school schedules are usually divided into weeks rather than months, having separate sheets for weeks and days ensures continuity in planning even if the month changes midweek.
  • The next step is to create sections for your planner by using color-coded sheets, dividers, tape, or post-notes to mark the presence of two sections or mark important sections.
  • After that, you can creatively design your planner cover by drawing and painting it, decorating it with your favorite stickers, or designing and printing out a cover on the computer.
  • Since you already have the sections divided, you need to decide what each section will include. You can categorize your planner sections according to subjects. Monthly, weekly, and daily categories can be created within the sections.
  • The final step in designing your own planner is to bind the papers together and put a cover. You can choose to either glue or staple the papers together. Your planner is now ready for you to add information about your assignments and homework. You can use your planner for assignments from one class or different classes. Make sure to highlight each task using a different color of ink.

Method 2: Use a standard notebook

  • The first step is to choose a planner notebook based on what you need and the number of assignments and homework you might receive for each class, from the various homework planners available.
  • The next step is to decorate your notebook, a journal, or a composition book. Be creative and either draw or glue decorations on your notebook. Decorating your planner will help you stay motivated when using a planner.
  • Then, you should divide your notebook into sections like the ones mentioned earlier: the monthly sections, weekly sections, and daily to-do list. You can count the number of sheets you need for each section and divide them using dividers, folding corners of the papers, and using tape or coloured sheets.
  • Ensure that you label all the sections that you have created in your planner to make it easier to indicate the right information in the right place. You can create the label by writing, drawing, or using stickers.
  • The next step is to draw your calendars so that you can plan your month based on the information in your planner. You should make a calendar by drawing a large box, dividing it into four columns and seven rows, naming the days of the week on top of each column, naming the months, and including the correct dates.
  • Ensure that you create your weekly planning sheets since these are the ones you will use the most. Most of your homework and your assignment will be included in the weekly sections. You will need to divide it into eight columns, seven for the days of the week and one extra column for notes.
  • The final step of using a standard notebook to create your planner includes the required assignments and homework. Ensure you organize your tasks based on deadlines to ensure you meet all your deadlines.

Method 3: Use a binder

  • Choose a binder that will fit all the necessary papers that you need to include in your planner. This includes the assignments sections, the calendars, and the weekly planners. Try to minimize the number of papers in the binder so that you can easily access information about your assignments.
  • The next step is to decide how you want to organize your planner for your homework. You should include the monthly calendar, weekly sections, and daily to-do lists. Using a binder will make it easier to add more sections and papers in the future when needed. That means you do not have to focus much on the number of papers for each section.
  • The next step is to print out your planning sheets, including blank calendars and blank weekly planning sheets. You can edit and download customized homework planning sheet templates and then print them for use. After printing, insert these planning sheets into your binder.
  • The fourth step will be to divide your planning sheets using dividers so that you can separate and access each section easily. You should also label these sections appropriately. Finally, you should open your binder rings and insert the to-do list, the weekly sections, the calendar, and a special index page to help you with arranging the pages.
  • The final step is to include your homework and assignments sections. At this point, the binder is ready to be used as a homework planner, and you can start planning and organizing your schoolwork.

Method 4: Use a digital planner

  • Select a digital planner that can be used on your laptop, iPad, or smartphone. For example, you can use note-taking or other calendar apps as your digital planner for your homework.
  • The next step is to either take notes or design a custom planner meant to organize your school homework and assignments directly into the apps.
  • Finally when including details about your assignment, ensure you focus on these three important times; new semester, new year or new season, Sundays, and classes.
  • For the upcoming semester (year or season), you can include all the set dates for important activities like tests and deadlines. The apps help you update your weekly sections on Sundays, as they mark the start of the new week. Finally, in class, you can use the app to update information in your planner for to-do lists, key dates, lengthy assignments, projects, tests, and final exams.

Method 5: Use a template

You can also choose to use a template to prepare your planner for homework. A template is the easiest method to use since you will be required to download a premade planner and customize it to suit your homework needs.

You can easily edit a template and fill in the required information. Also, you can choose to download and print it, then paste it in your notebook to use as your daily planner. Whatever method you choose, the template for homework planner is not time-consuming and guarantees you less stress during the preparation process.

Free Customizable Homework Calendar Template as Word File

In the case of a to-do list, you do not have to mention every single thing you intend or plan to do during the day. This will be difficult if something unexpected occurs or you decide to do something other than what you planned. As a student, the best way is to organize the tasks you need to complete immediately, the tasks you will complete in a couple of hours, and the tasks you will do on another day. It is about which assignment or homework is the most important.

What to Include in a Homework Planner

The information in this section will help you create a comprehensive planner that will assist you in organizing your homework and assignments.

Here is what you need to include in your planner once you have created it using any of the methods mentioned above:

Regular times for homework

You need to include a regular block of homework time. This is the time that you have dedicated to doing your homework. Setting regular times for homework is important, as it will help you plan for extra study and other school work you may have.

Due dates of homework assignments

The deadlines and due dates for your homework and assignments should also be included in the planner. This will help you remember what you need to do and when to ensure you submit your work on time.

Dates of tests

Your planner should include information about your homework and the test dates. You need to plan and organize your time to study and prepare for your tests. Including this information will help you stay informed about the upcoming tests.

Any special events to attend

In case you need to attend a dance, party, celebration, or any other special event, you should include it in your planner. This is important, as you will not have time for your homework if you have not planned it properly in your schedule.

Deadlines for signing up for standardized tests

Standardized tests like the SATs are important tests for you as a student. If you are interested in taking such exams, you need to note the deadlines for registering for these standardised tests in your homework planner. That way, you can prepare for the tests and stay alert about applying.

Your planner should also have information about your school fee due date. You have to remind your parents or guardians about paying your school fees, and that is why it is important to include this information in your planner.

Dates of school holidays

Since you will be checking your planner for information about your homework, assignments, and tests, the planner is a good place to indicate the dates of any upcoming school holidays. This will help you remember to do all that is required before the school holiday.

Best Practices to Follow

When creating and filling your  planner, there are tips that you should remember. These tips are some of the best practices you need to adapt and follow for effective homework planning.

Some of these best practices include the following:

1. Choose the right planner for you

It is important to choose the right planner for your homework and assignment needs. Your planner is meant to help with your school life by organizing your schoolwork. That means choosing your planner is the first and most important thing you should do. Choose what is most suitable for you, whether it is a notebook or a digital planner.

2. Set weekly goals

You need to include your weekly goals in your planner. Apart from your homework and assignments, you can also include your weekly goals in the planner. An example of a weekly goal can be studying for about 45 minutes to improve your grades.

3. Keep track of upcoming assignments

For the planner to be beneficial, remember that it is not enough to note your homework and assignment details. As a student, you must track those assignments that are due soon. It will not be beneficial to have a homework planner and still forget to complete assignments on time.

4. Practice time management

When creating and filling in your planner, you need to practice time management. As a student, managing school and your personal life requires you to learn how to manage your time. Ensure you allocate appropriate time for each school task, homework, and assignment. That way, you can have more time to indulge in other activities.

5. Keep it positive

Ensure to include positive information in your planner. You can congratulate yourself by adding positive notes in the planner every time you complete your work and school assignments. This will encourage you to stay focused on adhering to the planner.

Final Thoughts

As a student, you need to have a method to organise your school work and your personal time. You might feel overburdened or even forget to complete some of these tasks as you balance your homework, assignments, and other schoolwork. That is why you need a homework planner. You can easily make a planner to ensure you stay organized and responsible, and always remember to complete your homework. Use our customized templates to create your planner today.

What the Download Includes

When you download this free printable homework player, it doesn’t just have one planner included with it. I have created a few different planner options that will hopefully help you organize everything you need to accomplish all in one convenient place. This printable homework planner includes a general to-do list, daily tasks, a weekly calendar, and finally a monthly calendar.

The first one is a general to-do list. Here you can write each of your assignments, as well as the due date that they need to be turned in.

Then there is the daily to-do list from here you can write your specific tasks that need to be accomplished on a given day.

Then there is the weekly planning sheet. On the sheet, you can keep track of your weekly assignment tasks that need to be completed during that week.

The other item included in this download is a blank calendar. On this blank calendar, you can enter the dates for your month, then make sure to add the specific tasks that you need to keep track of during that month. This will give you a general overview of everything that you need to finish for any specific month.

Using a student planner to keep track of your to-do lists and due dates is a wise idea. This way you can have a visual guide of when each task on your list is due, then a way to prioritize tasks so that you never miss a due date.

Goals in Using the Homework Planner

There are several different reasons why using a homework planner is a good idea. Not only can it be difficult to juggle schoolwork with your busy life, but it can also be very stressful. Let’s take a look at a few good reasons why using a homework planner is a great tool to help with your and your child’s sanity!

Track Assignment Deadlines . First, using a homework planner gives you a visual aid of what items need to be accomplished, and how soon they are due. Using a printable homework planner is a great way to keep track of each assignment’s due date.

Less Stress . By staying on top of the assignments that are due, there is much less stress on both you and your child. This of course is an all-around win.

There are many different benefits to using a homework planner. These reasons listed above are just a few, good reasons why this tool is a good idea. My hope is that this homework planner will make the tasks you or your child have to accomplish so much more achievable, and you can still have time together to enjoy life.

Homework Planner Template

The best thing I can say about this homework planner is that my own kids like it enough to want me to print a copy for them each week. The design for this planner came from a mash-up of the techniques that my brother and I used in college to organize our time. I've refined the design based on feedback from my kids (one high-schooler and two home-schoolers).

How It Works : This planner combines two very useful tools for keeping track of your homework assignments, both on a single page. First, on the left is a homework check list for each of your classes. Use it to list the assignments, due dates, and the estimated time to complete each assignment. List upcoming exams and plan times to study. Second, on the right side you can plan your week to figure out how you will get everything done.

Printable Homework Planners

The following PDF files can be printed as needed. The main difference is in the weekly schedule because high-schoolers and home-schoolers tend to do their homework at different times of the day.

Authors: Jon Wittwer and Jim Wittwer

Description

This spreadsheet includes two separate worksheets with slightly different designs. The Homeschool design doesn't include the "time" column because we found it wasn't as critical to predict how much time a particular assignment would take. However, for high school and college, estimating the time to complete each assignment can be extremely helpful.

We designed it so that you can either print blank copies of the planner, or edit it electronically. You may be able to store and edit this planner on your mobile device if you are using Excel for iPad/iPhone or Google Sheets.

Tips for Students:

1. Customize the template: Using Excel or Word, enter your class names on the left and your typical weekly schedule. For example, use the schedule to highlight the times for each of your classes, your extracurricular activities, part-time jobs, etc.

2. Print blank copies: After customizing the template, you can print as many of these planner pages as you need, and you won't need to enter your typical weekly schedule each time.

3. Don't forget incomplete assignments: When switching to a new page each week, don't forget to go through your list of assignments and transfer the incomplete assignments to the new page.

4. Don't lose it: Keep your planner page in a folder that you always have with you. If you are worried about misplacing it, try taking a picture of it with your phone as a backup.

5. Use a mobile app: If you have a phone with the Excel or Word app or Google Docs app, and you are allowed to use a mobile device in school, you could try going paperless and editing the template on your phone. You could also try using one of the many "student planner" or "homework planner" mobile apps. The problem with this approach is that phones can be a huge distraction. If you are obsessed with Instagram or texting, it may be better to avoid using your phone if you want to get anything done.

Note to Teachers:

You are welcome to print copies of this planner to give to your students. The worksheet is pretty intuitive, but don't assume that students will know how to use it. Teach them about managing their time and help them learn how a planner can help.

One important thing that you can do to help your students is to give them a realistic estimate of how much time each assignment will take. If you get a lot of students complaining that an assignment took longer than you said, either cut back the work (if it was excessive), or use the feedback to give a better estimate next time around.

Printable Homework Planners to Help Students Get Organized

free printable homework planner

If you’re a parent, you know how incredibly overwhelming it can be for students to stay on top of studying and all other homework assignments.

Especially when they’re juggling multiple classes.

Due dates can pile up quickly if they aren’t staying organized and managing their time wisely.

However, there is a tool that can be quite helpful – A printable homework planner! You’ll find a few different styles below.

Weekly homework planners

These free printables will help students plan and track all their assignments for each day of the week.

They can write down the class, a description of the homework assignment, and when it’s due. Once it’s completed it, check “done” and move on to the next!

I recommend printing a few copies at a time. Encourage your middle schooler or high schooler to keep one in their binder.

Monthly homework calendars

In addition to weekly planners , older students may benefit from a blank homework calendar as well.

It’s nice to have a bird’s-eye view of each month.

Some of these templates have extra lines below the calendar for writing down reminders and other misc. notes.

Monthly assignment and exam trackers

Some students may prefer a simple running list of what’s due each month.

With these trackers, they can write down the class, jot down a quick description of what’s due (whether it’s a basic assignment, project, or exam), and the due date.

And, of course, once the assignment is finished, they can mark done.

How to Use Your Homework Planner

Time management skills are crucial to any student because they allow you to balance your school work, be well-rested for class, complete your projects on time, and prepare adequately for tests. Here are some tips for using your homework planner to achieve these goals:

  • Select a planner that is large enough to accommodate all your needs but not so large that it cannot fit in your bag properly.
  • Give your planner a creative name that motivates you to follow it.
  • Once you complete your planner, make it part of your daily routine and carry it with you to school. Check it every morning and every evening to make sure you are on schedule.
  • Always note down your assignments as soon as the teacher gives them, including important details like due dates so that you don’t forget anything.
  • Use colored papers, stickers, highlighters, and dividers to bring your planner to life and divide different sections so that you understand the content.
  • Always note down information about holidays or possible events that could prevent you from completing your homework assignments on time.

Tips for Creating a Perfect Homework Planner

Printable Homework Planners require a lot of effort to create because they track all the assignments you must complete as well as their due dates. Here are some tips to keep in mind when creating your own homework planner:

  • Organize your assignments into distinct categories so that you know how to prioritize them. You can do this by subject, due date, difficulty, etc.
  • Choose good quality paper so that, when you print your planner, it is durable.
  • Create different sheets for your planner, then arrange them in order and bind them into a notebook or binder.
  • Use colors or dividers to differentiate the different sections so that you don’t have a hard time looking for one section of your planner.
  • Be creative with the front cover and use paints, stickers, and colors that are uniquely your style and that will encourage you to follow your planner.
  • Name the different sections of your planner according to date or subject.
  • Use a stapler to bind the different sections.

Using a Notebook or a Binder as Your Homework Planner

You don’t have to create a homework planner from scratch as long as you are willing to be a little creative. Instead, you can use a binder or notebook. Here is how:

  • Choose a binder of the appropriate size depending on how much space you need and how important portability is to you. You don’t want to be carrying around a heavy binder all day in school, especially if your classes are far apart.
  • Determine how you would like to plan your assignments, either daily, weekly, or monthly. You don’t have to be rigid about the timelines because you can easily add new sections to a binder.
  • Download a customizable printable homework planner online and add all the information you need to create a personalized planner. Once you are done, print all the sheets on good-quality paper. You can even get creative with the colors.
  • Finally, insert all the printed sheets into the binder and use dividers to create appropriate categories. This will make it easier for you to spot all the different sections with ease.
  • The method you use to bind the sheets will depend on the type of binder you are using.
  • A notebook is different from a binder because you cannot add sheets to it and have to use the already present pages. However, it can also be a lot of fun to create a planner from.
  • Start by choosing a suitable notebook whose size meets all your needs. Include your name and contact information on the cover page in case it gets lost in school.
  • Next, use stickers, paints, ribbons, etc., to decorate the cover page of your notebook. Be creative here and infuse your personal style into the design.
  • Determine the number of sections you need to create and divide the number of pages in the notebook by the number of sections, then use dividers to partition the book.
  • Label each section using printed or handwritten labels.
  • Print out a calendar and attach it to the first page of your notebook.
  • Use the pages to create daily, weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly planning sheets.

By using it, you can at least bring order to one aspect of your student life.

I often get asked what paper I recommend. For regular copy paper this 5 ream case of paper is one of the better deals. For cardstock I really like this card stock paper on amazon . It is much cheaper than I have found in stores and has a good thickness for most projects without being so thick that it jams the printer.

Collage of 7 different study planner pages in different colors with text overlay

A good study planner is a key to academic success. It allows you to be in charge of your schedule and tasks rather than just reacting (and usually in a panic) as things come up or you happen to remember them. This free printable planner is easy to use and makes school and homework organization actually doable.

collage of 2 images, first is stack of open spiral notebooks & 2nd is image of 5 different study planners and homework planners with title text in between reading free 3 Page Study Planner in 5 different color combos

I’m a professional organizer , parent educator and mom of three. I know that using a school planner increases academic success for students of all ages. Studies have shown that the act of writing tasks down helps your brain process the task and remember it much better.

I’m personally a big fan of planners and bullet journals . Writing tasks down helps you process them differently than when you type them or speak them into an app. The physical act of writing aids your brain in processing/understanding the task and in remembering it. If you’re a visual learner, seeing the task written down also help you remember it better.

Think of your phone or computer – what happens when you have too many apps or too many windows open? The function and speed is decreased. It’s the same with your brain as you try to “just remember” all the things you have to do. Don’t be deluded into thinking you can remember all your homework assignments. Trust me (and the research), you need to use a study planner.

Study Planner

A study planner is also known as:

  • Homework Planner
  • School Planner
  • Student Planner
  • (Just a plain ol’) Planner

You will use your study planner to:

  • Keep track of school assignments, quizzes and tests
  • Keep track of due dates
  • Break large projects down into a process of manageable tasks
  • Schedule the component tasks of a project
  • Track the completion of the components of the project
  • Plan your day, classes, appointments and tasks to maximize your efficiency
  • Have one place to find everything you need to know about your schedule and your assignments (no more frantically searching for scraps of paper or a message)

How to Use a Study Planner

  • Use a study planner that allows you to remove pages after you’re done with them and add more pages as you need them. This helps keep your planner at a manageable size. Kids carry more than enough weight in their backpacks, they don’t need to carry extra pages.
  • You can also use a 3-ring binder ( this version is available in in 12 different colors and is under $5) or ring clips ( these come in a range of colors) .
  • You need to use the first month of school to develop the habit of using your study planner . Set reminders on your phone and use sticky notes to remind you to add to your homework planner after each class and to check your student planner multiple times a day.
  • Be committed to using your study planner. Just carrying it around with you is useless. You have to be faithful in writing assignments in the planner and then checking the planner when doing your homework.
  • When you sit down at the start of each class to see if you have any questions to ask or assignments to turn in.
  • When your teacher gives you assignments or just before you leave each class.
  • As soon as you get home, so you can plan your homework load for the day.
  • Refer to the study planner several times while you are doing your homework to make sure you don’t forget any tasks.
  • Just before you finish up with your homework to make notes for the next day.
  • Add note pages to your study planner so that you always have a spot to write down anything you need to remember.
  • Add document pockets to hold loose papers or forms that you need.

This free printable study planner contains:

  • Use it to record assignments each day
  • Use it to record homework, quizzes, tests or forms that need to be turned in on a specific day
  • Use it to keep track of daily and weekly classes, extra-curricular activities, appointments and scheduled quizzes or tests
  • Use it to schedule study time around your activities and appointments
  • Use it to break large projects down into the sequence of required tasks
  • Use it to schedule and track the completion of required tasks
  • It allows you to plan ahead for large projects and complete them over time, rather than wait until the night before

While you can print it on computer paper, I recommend printing your study guide on sturdier paper so that it will hold up better. If you’re interested in the free study planner in one of the other four color combinations,

  • Navy and Lime Green
  • Black and Pink
  • Purple and Light Green
  • Black and Grey

Consider whether you want to print the planner pages front to back and what order you want to print your planner pages.

I recommend printing 2 months’ worth of pages at a minimum. You don’t want to run out of planner pages for your student’s planner .

Be sure to check more simple back-to-school ideas.

For more back-to-school ideas, printables and recipes check out the table below. You can scroll though the table and look for ideas or search for specific ideas with the magnifying glass in the upper right-hand corner (on desktop). Click on the topic and then click through the specific article.

Very nice! I agree that there is something about writing things down by hand that makes it stick with you more. I greatly enjoy using a paper planner. I know a lot of kids today rely on being able to “look up the homework online” when they get home, but you never know what might happen if you rely on technology. A combination of the two is probably the best. Write it down if you can, and then check to make sure you have it right when you get home. I think teachers can help by providing homework assignments in class and encouraging kids to record them before they leave the room.

What Is a Homework Planner?

Homework Planner

A homework planner is a notebook where you keep track of all your assignments, due dates, and other information related to your studies. This includes things like:

  • Lists of material you need to read or study for each class
  • When assignments are due (including which classes)
  • How long it takes to complete each assignment
  • How much time each class requires for preparation or review

What should be included in a homework planner?

The planner should include the following information:

Dates of assignments, tests, and quizzes

You should write down the date that each assignment is due as soon as possible after receiving it from your teacher(s). If you need to make up an assignment later in the semester, then put a star next to it so that you remember not to forget about it!

Homework schedule for every week

Your homework schedule should include the days you have homework or tests during that week. Include all subjects in this schedule (except maybe art or music). This way, if there are any conflicts between subjects, they can be taken care of before they happen!

Schedule time for studying, reading, and reviewing material for classes. Your study time should be scheduled at the same time each day so that it becomes a habit, like brushing your teeth or taking a shower.

Meeting notes

If you have weekly meetings with your teacher or team members, make sure to write them down on your planner so that you remember them.

Social events

If any social events are coming up at school or after-school activities, make sure to add them to your planner so that you remember them!

Tips for creating your own homework planner

The following tips can help you create your own homework planner that works for you:

  • Make it personal. Homework planners don’t have to be bland. Get creative and decorate it with stickers, drawings, or photos.
  • Use different colors to represent different subjects. For example, if you are taking three classes, use different colors for each subject; this will make it easier for you to find the subject that needs attention when checking off completed assignments.
  • Use a calendar format with blocks of time dedicated to each subject. You should also include blocks of time dedicated specifically for studying so that you can get ahead on your work instead of having an overwhelming amount all at once at the end of the semester or school year. You could also include blocks of time when it’s okay to take breaks (like during lunch) and blocks of time dedicated specifically for breaks as well (like after supper).
  • Make sure you include all of your assignments, even if they still need to be timed or have due dates. This way, you can plan ahead and make sure there is time available when they do come up.
  • Break up assignments into smaller chunks. For example, if you have an essay due on Monday night at midnight, break it up into smaller steps so that it doesn’t feel so overwhelming. Start writing on Sunday nights at 9 p.m., proofread it every morning from 7-8 a.m., revise it during lunch from 12-1 p.m., etc. Breaking up your work into small chunks like this will help you stay organized and keep track of everything that needs to be done!
  • Make note of holidays, breaks, and summer vacations so they stay on your fingers! You want to know what’s due when school starts again before coming home from spring break.

Using a notebook or binder for your homework planner

If you’re a student, chances are you have to do lots of writing. Writing is one of the most time-consuming and challenging parts of any subject, whether it’s a book report or an essay.

But if you use a planner as your homework planner, you can save yourself hours of work by planning out your assignments ahead of time.

Planning saves time because it allows you to tackle one assignment at a time in the best way possible.

You don’t have to worry about forgetting an assignment or losing it because if it’s written down in your planner, you won’t forget it.

You also don’t have to worry about running out of time for your assignments because if they’re written down in your planner, then you’ll know precisely when each assignment is due and how much time you have left to complete it!

Using a notebook or binder as your homework planner is a simple solution that will save you time and stress while ensuring that every assignment is completed on time!

How to Use Your Homework Planner

You can use your Homework Planner in many ways.

Here are some ideas:

Select the right type of planner

The first thing to do is decide what kind of planner best suits your needs. Many different options are available on the market today, including digital versions and paper planners. For example, if you need something that’s portable and easy to carry around with you throughout the day, then a digital version would work best. However, if you prefer getting lost in your thoughts while writing by hand, then a traditional paper planner might be more suitable for you.

Name your planner

Naming your planner helps keep your thoughts organized and makes it easier to find things when you need them most. If you’re going to use multiple planners throughout the year, make sure each one has a unique name, so you don’t confuse them!

Incorporate the planner into your daily routine.

The best way to use your planner is to incorporate it into your daily routine. This means that you should write down assignments as soon as they are assigned (or, even better, before!) so that you remember them. It also means that you should use the planner daily, even if there is little to write down. If there’s no homework on a given day, then write in “Homework” or something similar and leave it at that.

Jot down the information ASAP.

As soon as you’re assigned a new assignment, make sure that you write it down immediately in your planner so that you don’t forget about it! It’s also important to keep track of everything else going on in your life — from parties to meetings — so that your schedule stays organized and balanced. Don’t forget about those extracurricular activities either; after all, they can often lead to fantastic opportunities for college admissions!

Learn how to use backward planning

This is an essential part of any homework planner and should be used daily. Backward planning helps you anticipate what’s coming up in the future so that you can prepare accordingly. Let’s say you have an essay due next week. You should start thinking about this essay at least two weeks in advance so that when it gets closer to its due date, you won’t find yourself scrambling for ideas and having to work on it at the last minute.

Color-coding systems work wonders

If you want to keep track of what assignments need attention each day, color code them to stand out from other tasks on your schedule . This way, if any tasks require immediate attention (or need to be completed by a specific time), they will stand out from everything else on your calendar.

Include everything in your homework planner.

Make sure that your homework planner has all of the information you need. Include every subject with homework, and make sure that any assignments are listed by date. You don’t want to forget an assignment because it’s not in your planner. Also, ensure that your planner includes any upcoming tests or quizzes so you can prepare for them accordingly.

Use tabs and flags

If you have multiple classes with different subjects, use tabs in your planner to separate each class from one another. Similarly, if certain types of assignments require special attention (such as long-term projects), use flags so you can spot them quickly and ensure they’re completed on time without fail!

Keep the old pages and sheets in a separate file.

If you have been using your planner for several years , keep all of them together in one file so you can refer back to them later on. This is especially useful if you want to see how much workload has increased over time or if you want to compare different subjects against each other.

Congratulate yourself on creating an organizational system!

It’s easy to get behind on homework due to other commitments like after-school sports or part-time jobs — but with your homework planner, it will be easier!

Whether you’re a high school student or a college student, there will come a point where you’ll have tons of homework and projects piled up that you’ll need to start working on. Printable Homework Planners are the answer to this problem. They give students an overview of their homework and when they’ll have to work on it.

These planners also help students break down their significant assignments into smaller tasks so that they can complete them in short periods and ensure that they get their whole night’s rest and have time for fun activities.

How do you make a homework planner?

Use a calendar, spreadsheet, or written template to track assignments. Record the class, project name, due date, and estimated time to complete each task. Review and update it every day. Planners can be made as simple tables or binders with detailed project breakdowns – customize it to fit your needs. Prioritize bigger items and block off time.

How do you make a homework diary?

Use a notebook or digital doc to create dated journal-style entries for each homework session. Log the date, assignments worked on, time spent, tasks completed, and any issues. Keep all homework documentation in this singular place for easy reference. Hours can be tallied to review effort.

How do you organize an academic planner?

Use monthly and weekly calendar views to plot tests, project due dates, and daily homework. Include a subject index with color coding. Schedule review and study blocks first, then add other activities around them. Mark priority tasks for each day. Create sections for class notes, resource materials, and progress trackers. Review your plan each morning.

What do you write in a homework planner?

A homework planner should include:

  • Class subject, unit or project name
  • Detailed assignment description
  • Estimated time to complete
  • Checkboxes to mark progress
  • Space for notes like resources needed
  • Schedule time blocks for study/prep

Free Printable Homework Planner

Between schoolwork, online work, homework, products, submitting work, and more, you might feel like you don’t have enough time in the day to plan and complete it.  To keep track of these things and make them a little more manageable, we wanted to give you this free homework planning sheet.  It will help you and your child stay on top of their work.

Homework and Organization sheet

I think the hardest part of the homework is learning how to budget time.  This lesson is hard for students to learn (even adults still struggle in this area!).   It’s important to teach our kids to budget & organize their time.  Time management skills are one of the best things we can teach our children. To help our kids tackle the time-management portion of homework, I give them this Homework Planning Sheet  every week.

On top of that, making a “to-do” list helps kids see what has to be done and allows them to check things off once it’s finished.  This gives them a sense of accomplishment.

This homework planner offers students the benefit of writing down all their tasks, reviewing what they must do, and budgeting their time to fit it all in.

Homework planning sheet for kids

It gives them a chance to look at the upcoming week and write down everything that they have to do for the week.  They can see exactly what needs to be done and when they need to do it.    We write in things like practice or appointments on certain days, so they can see where they will have limited time.

This homework planner is an easy way to help our kids with time management and organization.

Why do children fall behind on classwork?

  • Procrastination.   Are they setting aside enough time to complete their work?   Are they doing it before other things each day (before relaxing, sports, etc.)
  • Confusion.  Does your child understand the material and what they are asked to do for their homework?  Sometimes children ignore their homework because it is too confusing, and they are embarrassed to ask for help, admitting failure.

Tips to Remember While Doing School Work at Home:

homework station

  • Have a system for completed work.   When our kids finish their work and it has been submitted, we keep it in case the teacher can’t find it later (emails get lost, and I didn’t want our kids to have to repeat the work).   We kept one bin per child. We would paperclip the work from the week together and a piece of paper with the date on it (paperclipped to the top of the pile).  We’d throw it into the bin.  Simple.
  • Use this time to teach your child time-management skills.  Work before play.   It’s a lesson best learned when your child is young.
  • Use our Homework Organization Tip (which has worked for us for several years.)

When life threw everyone a curveball last spring and schools shut down, we were flustered but I felt an incredible need to organize as much as I could (especially with everything else totally outside of my control.) My daughter is the same way, she loves a good checklist and thrives on following schedules. While the teachers were trying as hard as they could, we knew we needed a way to keep track of what was due, and when.

That’s when I created this printable student weekly planner to organize assignments. It can also be used to write down that week’s schedule, homework, and even habit tracking. It really came in handy to organize everything during a stressful time!

It’s great for all ages– for younger kids, you can draw icons to represent what you’re doing when. Older kids can fill it in themselves. Heck, it’s versatile enough that awesome adults like you can use it to plan meals, write down virtual learning schedules, or plan your homeschooling lessons!

(I even added a chore block to my kids’ schedule… they’re pitching in around the house and writing down one big chore a day was helpful for all of us.)

Get organized in style!

How to Use the Free Printable Student Planner

  • Download it to your computer and print (see instructions above.)
  • Fill out the far left column with time blocks or subject areas, depending on how you’re using the planner. Writing in time blocks creates a ‘block schedule’ that shows what is happening at that time each day, and writing subject areas allows for writing down the assignments or lessons for that subject each day.
  • I recommend clipping to a clipboard or protecting with a clear plastic dry erase pocket . You can then hang it on the wall using Command Strip Hooks . Another idea is to three hole punch it or place in a page protector and add it to a binder.

I hope this helps you and your family adapt to the ever changing school situation! Whether you homeschool, virtual school or go in person my goal is to make it as easy and stress free as possible with simple ideas to add systems and routines into your home life.

Let’s teach our kids how to budget their time with planners. Have them list down the things that need to be accomplished and break down tasks into smaller and manageable units! For our free printables this week, I’ve created two sets of homework planners for our school kids!

Here’s the sample layout of the first set:

Follow this link to download the PDF version:  FREE PRINTABLE HOMEWORK PLANNER 1

And for the second set of our fr ee printable homework planners , I’ve allotted a bigger space for the kids to write on their tasks. There’s also another row where remarks can be written!

I think that with planners like these,  kids can get more organized as they can already write down their assignment and when it is due once received in an already organized space.

Homeschool Schedule Templates

35 editable homeschool schedule templates [free].

You could have decided to join the growing number of parents across the states who have chosen the homeschool education system for their children against the mainstream system. Home school laws and guidelines require that your homeschooling child receive full education fit for their age. Although it is legal in all the states, most parents find it difficult to have a pre-defined lesson schedule for teaching their children and sticking to it. Having a homeschool schedule template will save you the troubles.

Is my child eligible?

Any child who has attained school-going age is allowed by law to attend homeschool and be taught by a parent, tutor, or guardian. If your child is a special case, the law prohibits them from homeschooling. Instead, take them to a special education center or attain formal permission from the center.

Is homeschooling beneficial?

There are many homeschooling benefits especially if you have a daily homeschool schedule because you will be able to teach your child in a friendly, flexible environment. Some of the benefits of homeschooling are:

  • You don’t break any laws: homeschooling is legal and you cannot be sued for not taking your child to a mainstream system.
  • Ample time for outdoors: you get enough time to play, walk, mold, and do experiments.
  • Quality learning: there is no competition for one teacher against thirty learners. Your child gets full attention.
  • Conducive environment: Your child gets to learn within the family set up away from bullies in the mainstream system.
  • Flexible schedules: You get to plan your schedules in favor of your family needs and set up.

How do I create a daily schedule for homeschooling?

Home school schedules help you follow a certain pattern for teaching your child. Sometimes they are difficult to follow because each day is different from the other and each family goes through unique challenges. Here are points that will help you create a workable homeschool schedule.

Draw a template

Start by drawing a template and dividing your template into workable chunks and giving them names. You could draw five chunks for a day and name them something like early morning, mid-morning, midday, after lunch, and checking out. By doing this, you have created a general overview of how the daily activities will be like.

Once you name your chunks, fill in your subjects according to the learning styles of your children. Some children learn math better in the morning and language in the afternoon and so on.

Space your subjects

Your child will get overwhelmed and bored if you try to compact several subjects together. Instead of compacting, space out and cover each subject two-three times a week to avoid burning out.

Type them in an editable home school schedule

Type your schedule in the editable homeschool schedule so that you can make changes and adjustments anytime to fit into the current demands of each day/season. Your editable version is also a printable homeschool schedule which after editing, you can print each time you edit and pin it in your kid’s study room.

Incorporate your weekly daily schedule with the annual syllabus

Homeschooling is not impulsive but follows a set of the curriculum as guided by stakeholders in the department of education, although each state may have its set guidelines for homeschooling. The curriculum is set to fit a given year and each year has the semesters. Your weekly daily schedule should smoothly flow with the overall semester and year in terms of progression.

Daily Homeschool Schedules

Annual schedules

Most states have a curriculum set for a 180-day school calendar, each divided into two semesters and two quarters per semester. This forms the base for home-based curriculum developers and it will work well for most homesteads, especially if the family has some children homeschooling while others attend regular schools.

Your annual schedule should follow the official curriculum and possibly fall within the first quarter that starts from Labor Day to the beginning of June. Considering the challenges of homeschooling, you may customize your annual schedule as long as the total period falls within the 180-day set period.

From the full year schedule, break it into two semesters and let each subject topic fit within its semester, then break it down further into two to fit each quarter and finally arrive at your weekly daily schedule.

Weekly Homeschool Schedules

Free homeschool schedule template 31

With your weekly subject schedule already in place, plan your weekly calendar according to your job demands. You could be employed in a specific workstation; you could be a homemaker or a work from home individual.

Your weekly daily schedule should run in a duty/off work preference such that you attend homeschool lessons when you get back home or after finishing your chores or work from home assignments.

Because of your work-related duty, your weekly daily home school schedule could start from mid-week, weekends, early week, and so on and the hours could be fixed in the afternoon, early morning, evening, and so on as long as you stay in focus. With this in mind, you may divide your weekly daily schedules into two segments to fit your daily life chores and career as follows.

  • Compact schedules Compact schedules focus on allocating more time to a particular activity or subject or giving the activity several days within the week. For example, you may allocate reading two hours instead of one hour or allocate math three lessons within the week. One benefit of compact schedules is that they help the learners recover lost hours in case of a missed lesson so that they stay within the curriculum timelines and allow time for activity-based subjects or practical. Using compact daily schedules will also help you adjust your time for work and house chores, or even attending to an infant.
  • Spiral schedules Spiral schedules are schedules that don’t follow a specific linear pattern but follow a pattern in circles/cycles. That means, you do not allocate your subjects specific time but allow them to fall on schedule once their opportune time arrives. For example, you may write down the subjects you need to be covered throughout the week, but fail to allocate them time because of your nature of work. Let us say you plan to do music, art, and reading during the week. As you progress with your duties, an opportune time for music presents itself while at the table, and you make maximum use of it. The spirals are loops that go round in circles and connect to your subject at specific undefined times.

What is a typical homeschool schedule?

Some states may have an outlined number of hours for daily homeschooling, but most parents find it difficult to stick to the state’s schedules. A typical day in regular schools may run for 5 hours, but your typical homeschool day may run for three hours.

With your attention only directed to your child, you save time than when attending to 20 learners. To help you overcome the challenges of your weekly daily schedules, these points could help.

  • Be flexible Learning should be fun and you might need to adjust whenever necessary to fit into the day’s need and challenges because each day brings its trouble. Your subject flexibility could include things like changing your starting time, interchanging subjects, delaying some subjects, and so on.
  • Be routine minded Following hard rock schedules will bring frustration at some point or the other. If your schedule lists spelling at 11 am, circumstances might change and you find yourself failing. Instead of wearing yourself out with schedules, be routine mined, and follow routine patterns that can always be adjusted to fit into the current circumstance.
  • Have every child in mind You could have more than one child homeschooling and another underage. When planning your schedules, consider every child, and bring them onboard smoothly and systematically. You may give time to your younger children first, followed by the older ones.
  • Have allowances In your weekly homeschool schedule, be flexible and allow time for unforeseen situations. Your child could become moody on a particular day and slow everything, or a tree might fall in your backyard and put the lesson on hold or even a neighbor might decide to make life a mess for you that day. Allow for unforeseen circumstances.
  • Have copies of your schedule Once you have set your schedules and typed them, print a few copies and place them on your study room table so that your children get acquainted with it. In your computer or phone, store some printable homeschool schedules which you can download or print anytime the need arises.

How do I prepare myself for homeschooling?

Homeschooling could be challenging, especially for beginners. It is important to be prepared both in body and mind because you may get disoriented and give up. Here’s how to prepare

  • Family needs: Consider family needs like infants, special needs, chores among others
  • Sleep patterns: Some kids sleep in afternoons while others wake up early
  • Job demands: You could be working 40 hours a week. Adjust yourself for extra learning time
  • Outdoor lessons: Some lessons require more practices in the outdoors than others
  • Academic cycles: It’s better to start after Labor Day.
