Who Is Emma Watson?

Emma Watson was born on April 15, 1990, in Paris, France, but raised in England. The actress got her big break as a child with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone , growing up on screen as she reprised her role of Hermione Granger through the franchise's eight films. Watson went on to enjoy success in the fashion and modeling industries, and continued to prove her abilities as an actress with roles in films like My Week with Marilyn , The Perks of Being a Wallflower , Beauty and the Beast and Little Women .

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born on April 15, 1990, in Paris. Her parents, both British lawyers, are Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson. Her brother, Alex, was born three years later. Her parents divorced when Watson was 5, and she moved back to Oxfordshire in England with her mother and brother.

Watson attended the Stagecoach Theatre Arts school at Oxford. She studied singing, acting and dancing, and performed in school plays. Her natural instinct for acting first came out when she won a poetry competition for reciting James Reeves' "The Sea" at age 7.

Playing Hermione Granger in 'Harry Potter'

Watson sufficiently impressed casting agents and the film's producers, and won the role of Hermione Granger, Harry Potter's smart, bossy best friend and voice of reason. Harry Potter was portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe , and Rupert Grint was cast as Ron Weasley, Harry's other best friend. The trio of British child actors would become known around the globe for their roles as young wizards fighting a battle between good and evil, beginning with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in November 2001.

Watson's film debut was an enormous success: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone earned a record-breaking $33.3 million on its opening day in the United States, en route to grossing $975 million worldwide. It was nominated for three Academy Awards and seven BAFTA Awards, with Watson receiving critical praise to cement her status as an up-and-coming star.

For the next decade Watson stayed busy filming the Potter series. She reprised the role of Hermione for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in 2002 and for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in 2004, and continued to star in the eight-part series through the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 , in 2011.

Although they spent their adolescence on film sets, Watson and costars Radcliffe and Grint kept up with their lessons, with five hours of tutoring each day. Watson took high school equivalency exams, and made high scores in every subject. She took a year off from school to film the final two Harry Potter movies, but maintained that she was committed to furthering her education.

Watson tried hard to shed her child star image, one so closely tied to the Potter franchise. “I have lived in a complete bubble. They found me and picked me for the part. And now I’m desperately trying to find my way through it,” she said in an interview with Vogue in 2011.

Fashion and Education

As a teenager coming of age as an established movie star, Watson also emerged as a fashionista, her style catching the eye of many major figures in the fashion industry. "I love fashion. I think it's so important, because it's how you show yourself to the world," she once told Teen Vogue .

In September 2009 Watson announced that she was working with People Tree, a fashion label that promotes fair trade. Watson catapulted into the world of high fashion and modeling when she was chosen as the face of Burberry's Autumn/Winter 2009 collection, and again for the 2010 Spring/Summer collection.

Watson took fans by surprise when she chopped off her long locks, and debuted a pixie haircut in August 2010. The new 'do helped her shed the child star image of her Potter days, and in July 2011, Watson graced the cover of Vogue . The next month, she starred in a commercial for Lancôme perfume.

Maintaining her commitment to her education, Watson enrolled as a freshman at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, in the fall of 2009. Watson claimed she chose an American university over a British education because the American system allows students to study many subjects at once. Brown was also a place, Watson said, where she could more easily blend in. “I want to be normal,” she said. "I really want anonymity."

In March 2011 Watson revealed that she was deferring her schooling to work on the Potter finale. In July she announced plans to return to Brown for a year to complete her degree after studying at Oxford University in the fall. She graduated from Brown in 2014 with an English degree. That same year, she was appointed a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador.

'Ballet Shoes,' 'The Tale of Despereaux'

Although Watson became closely identified with the character of Hermione Granger, as an adolescent the young actress wanted to be seen as more. In 2007 she starred in another film based on a children's novel, Ballet Shoes, by Noel Streatfeild. The film aired on BBC One, garnering decent reviews with Watson in the lead role. In 2008 she branched out into animated work, voicing the character of Princess Pea in The Tale of Despereaux .

'Beauty and the Beast'

After the conclusion of Harry Potter , Watson was cast in My Week with Marilyn (2011), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), The Bling Ring (2013), This Is The End (2013) and Noah (2014). In 2017 she played the lead role of Belle in the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast , which became the highest-grossing live action musical of all time.

That year Watson won the MTV Movie & TV Awards' inaugural gender-neutral award for Best Actor in Movie. “MTV’s move to create a genderless award for acting will mean something different to everyone,” said Watson. “But to me, it indicates that acting is about the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. And that doesn’t need to be separated into two different categories.”

'The Circle,' 'Little Women'

Also in 2017 Watson joined Tom Hanks and John Boyega for the thriller The Circle , which earned middling reviews despite its strong cast. Next up for the actress was the prominent role of Meg March in Greta Gerwig 's 2019 adaptation of Little Women .

Emma Watson was born in Paris to English parents. From the age of five, she was brought up in Oxfordshire and London. Watson attended the Stagecoach Theatre Arts. She also was a student at the Dragon School, Oxford and later Headington School. She appeared in several amateur school productions.

In addition, she spent much time practising drama and learning the skills of an actress.

Harry Potter film series

The first instalment of the series was released in 2001, to popular and critical acclaim. Watson’s performance of Hermione was praised by critics, and the film went on to become the highest-grossing film of 2001.

In 2002, Watson again starred in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Hermione_Granger

During the run of Harry Potter films, Watson received many awards for her acting, such as the National Movie Award (2007), several Otto awards and by 2010 she was named as Hollywood’s highest-paid female stars. (earning £19 million in 2009)

The final two books Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows were filmed from 2008 to 2010, with the final film in the series Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 released in July 2011.

It was the cumulation of one of the most successful film series in history and cemented Watson’s role as a leading female, young actor.

Post Harry Potter

Watson was gifted academically, achieving eight A* and two A at GCSE. These results were achieved despite long hours in working on the Harry Potter films. As the Harry Potter franchise came to an end, Watson became keen to break out from her role as Hermione and branch into new endeavours.

Watson continued her film career with new roles in films such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) and the Bling Ring (2013). She also featured in an apocalyptic comedy This is the End (2013)

In 2005, Watson began a modelling career, appearing on the front of Teen Vogue. She has also worked as a model for Burberry and Lancome. She also acted as an advisor for People Tree, a fair trade fashion brand. She has committed to promoting vegan and sustainable fashion – that does not damage the environment.

In July 2014, Watson was appointed a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and later in the year gave an address at the United Nations in New York. Her speech was part of the UN Women Campaign HeForShe which sought to try and involve more men in the campaign for equal rights between men and women. Watson sought to refresh the concept of feminism – to get away from the idea of ‘man-hating’, but include men in the process of greater equality.

“ We want to end gender inequality — and to do this we need everyone to be involved. This is the first campaign of its kind at the UN: we want to try and galvanize as many men and boys as possible to be advocates for change.”

– Emma Watson, Speech at UN

She defined feminism as:

“The belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes.”

– Emma Watson

“Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong,”

– Emma Watson Speech at UN

The speech garnered widespread international coverage and received widespread praise. However, it also led to anonymous death threats and hate mail, which caused Watson to be afraid, but also more determined to continue her work.

Watson’s beliefs stemmed from her own experiences of growing up. In particular, her disapproval of the media’s attempt to sexualise her life, at aged only 14.

Since this moment, she has participated in many events which have sought to promote women’s rights and women’s political participation. Nobel Laureate, Malala Yousafzai said Watson’s speech was helpful for her to see ‘Feminism’ as something she could identify with, without negative connotations.

In 2016, Watson started a feminist book club. Other recent roles include. Recent film roles include Noah (2014 – where she played Noah’s adopted daughter. She also starred in Regression (2015), Colonia (2015) and The Circle (2017).

Spiritual beliefs

Emma Watson has described herself as a spiritual universalist – preferring a spiritual approach which sees the unity of all main religions and spiritual paths. She does not belong to a particular religion.

I already, before I did [ Noah ], had a sense that I was someone that was more spiritual, than specifically religious. I had a sense that I believed in a higher power, but that I was more of a Universalist, I see that there are these unifying tenets between so many religions.  ( 1 )

Over the past  fifteen  years, Emma Watson has proved that she's so much more than Hermione Granger.

The star of the "Harry Potter" franchise hasn't let herself be defined by the iconic and beloved character. Over  the years, she's proved that she has acting chops, became a style icon, and is fighting for women's rights worldwide at the same time — and she's only 26 years-old.

Watson's acting career got started with "Harry Potter," but she really started to come into her own as an actress and as a public figure once the series ended and she had more time to explore other projects.

Watson with co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint in promotional shot for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

  • Watson shares a birthday (April 15) and her own name with Harry Potter co-star Emma Thompson (who portrays Sybill Trelawney - her much-disliked Divination Professor).
  • Watson was asked in an interview promoting Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone how she would feel kissing her co-stars Rupert or Dan . She jokingly replied 'no chance, not written in my contract'. Ironically, she eventually kissed both of them. [22] [23]
  • Watson was diagnosed with combined/hyperactive type ADHD as a young child. While Watson hasn’t spoken openly about the condition, the ADHD Foundation said in a statement that she had been diagnosed and medicated since childhood while filming Harry Potter. [24] [25]
  • Unlike Watson, Jones had prior acting experience by playing the titular character of the 1998 live-action adaptation of the children's book series Madeline. The film served as her acting debut and made her rise to stardom.
  • Watson broke her wrist while filming Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets .
  • Watson also used to have a pet hamster named Millie who Watson enjoyed taking to the Harry Potter set often, she recalled that Millie would squirm around in her lap while getting her make up done. Shortly after production began for Chamber of Secrets, Millie, sadly passed away. Watson was left devastated and word of Millie's passing quickly ran through the studio. Then the set department made a special hamster-sized coffin for Millie and Watson said 'I don't think a hamster has ever had a better send-off'.
  • On the United States show 'David Letterman's Late Show', Watson revealed that she would be going to college in the United States and that she will work on Liberal Arts degree focusing on Humanities.

  • Controversy arose shortly before the release of the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix film when it was discovered that Watson's breast size had been digitally enhanced on a poster advertising the film's IMAX release. This image gave Melissa Anelli , webmistress of fansite The Leaky Cauldron , 'the full heebie jeebies ,' since Watson was playing a fifteen-year-old, [26] and was herself under eighteen.
  • At the age of thirteen, Watson was placed tenth in 'The Hottest Female Stars', in February 2004. [2]
  • She became the youngest person ever to appear on the front cover of Teen Vogue magazine, at the age of fifteen.
  • She achieved eight A*and two A passes in her GCSEs (English exams pupils sit in their last compulsory year of education). She jokingly compared this to her portrayal of Hermione Granger, a self-conscious know-it-all.
  • Watson passed her driving test on her first attempt on 28 January 2008. [ citation needed ]

  • In an interview, Watson said that she hates it so much when people call her 'Emily' instead of 'Emma' and is frequently confused with Oscar-nominated British actress Emily Watson .
  • Rumours claimed that Watson nearly did not return for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince , Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 , and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 filming, but ultimately decided to because she 'couldn't bear seeing anyone else playing Hermione '. However, she has on her official website denied this and explained that she was only trying to make it clear to Warner Bros. that she needed them to cooperate with her education for filming. She later attended Brown University in Rhode Island.
  • Even though Hermione doesn't have freckles in the books, Watson has freckles around her nose which are usually hidden by makeup in the films.
  • At least one actor from the Harry Potter films has appeared alongside Watson in almost every non- Harry Potter film she has appeared in. As for who has the worst crush on her - me or Radcliffe - I'd rather not say. ' [28]
  • Though Watson's natural hair colour is brown, she dyed her hair blonde for Ballet Shoes and to avoid being typecast as 'the girl from Harry Potter'.

emma ilove u i want to meet u i hope my message will reach to her my life is boring with out emma name i wnat to meet u and and tell u how much i love u:….:…….:….:

Grandfather? Don’t you mean grandmother??

Yup, you are right. Corrected.

I LOVE YOU ”EMMA” Will You Marry Me???? ??? ?? ?

me 5’5″ /165cm ! oh height 5’5″ / 165cm

I love Emma. Interesting info. Though I find it hard to believe that her waist is 23″ at 5’5″ and 110 lbs. I am 5’1″, have a petite frame (smaller than Emma’s) and am naturally underweight at 86 lbs. My waist is 24″ with a flat stomach. I looked at the tape measure to see 23″. Even with Emma’s toned flat stomach there is no way she’s that small given her frame and weight. Logically, it doesn’t make sense that I would have a 24″ waist at 86 lbs and she 23″ at 110 lbs. I’d have to see the measuring done in person to believe it.

Actually it is. Given that she has a longer frame and hips that flare as so wide(there is more distance from her rib cage to her hips), her body has the ability to create the deeper dip of a 23″ waist. Also, judging by her toned body, her body fat % is low as well as her muscle mass. So, she is altogether as lithe as a model. (One with hips anyway)

That makes sense. Height and length of torso makes a difference. Given my thin frame, very low body fat % and muscle mass (I’m trying to tone what little I have)if I were taller I would look sickly. Everything is in perspective. In any case Emma looks great!

it doesn’t matter about height when it comes to waist sizes, there are people who are “5’7 with a 24 inch waist, i’m “5’3 and i have a 22 inch waist, megan fox is “5’4 and she also has a 22 inch waist (said it herself in an interview.) you can do waist exercises to reduce your waist size its no biggy (:

I LIKE YOU VERY MUCH “EMMA CHARLOTTE DUERRE WATSON” I want to meet you! Will you meet me ??? ??? ?? ?

Emma is a very private person. All I can find are rumours about her boyfriend’s. Today I found 2. Please feel free to discuss her measurements. Nothing more than that and her career will show up. Don’t Love her. Respect her. Damn it. She’s a Beautiful Woman, but that’s all I know. Guys in love with her, grow up.

My sister is 104 pounds at 5’7 and her waist is like 27 or 26 inches so weight has nothing to do with waist size. It’s possible to have an 23 in waist at her height

Emma is so beautiful and pretty!!! She is one of my favorite actress

Emma Watson was born in Paris, France, the daughter of English lawyers Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson.Watson lived in Paris until the age of five. Her parents separated when she was young; following their divorce, she moved with her mother and younger brother to Oxfordshire, spending weekends at her father’s house in London.

You are so sweet

i like the actress emma Watson she is my favorite. speakin of measurements, I am also a 32b. I have a tiny waist but I have fairly muscular legs and a little bit of muscle in my arms. I like emma Watson cuz she seems like a nice person I watched her on ellen and I bet the people that talked to her and didn’t know who she was and then she told ellen what happened I bet those people feel really stupid for not recognizing emma sooner.

hey cherryblosson, we’d all be that pretty if we had professionals to do our makeup and make us look flawless.

U cannot be pretty anyway.

I love u emma i can die 4 u. I am 13 years old but still i can do anything 4 u. U r my life emma

Same here dude

Emma has never said that she smokes, nor has she ever been photographed smoking, nor has anyone ever seen her smoking

Just a small comment to correct her measurements…32-23-34 in… if she wears a 32B bra, then her bust measurement isn’t 32 as that is the measurement of her ribcage below the breasts. For each letter (A, B, C, etc) you add an inch. Therefore, her measurements would be 34-23-34… a ‘perfect’ figure as the goal is to have the same measurement for bust and hips with the waist 10 inches smaller. It would be nice to see these written correctly. Thanks.

32B is obviously the wrong size. The band should be roughly the same as the underbust measurement and the underbust measurement isn’t usually more than a couple inches larger than the waist measurement. Her bra size is more likely somewhere around 26E (26DDD US) if her waist and bust measurements were correctly reported, maybe around 28D if her waist was reported as smaller than it actually is or her ribcage expands much more quickly from the waist than most women around her build.

It is actually “The REMAINS of the Day” by Kazuo Ishiguro and not the remainders.

I love emma watson 🙂 Though I don’t think she has the french citizenship, she’s definitely british even though she was born in France. France does not give the citizenship if you’re just born there.

Hi I like emma emma watson is ao beautiful

she is pretty

She isn’t French. Her parents were British.

What the hell Emma doesn’t have dark brown eyes, her eyes are are light brown/hazel.

Emma doesn’t follow a religion. While doing press for Noah she stated that she doesn’t follow a specific religious doctrine but that she does believe in a ‘higher power’.

I always read different things about this height weight issue- here that she weighs 53kg at 165cm which sounds healthy to me on others 50kg…so what is more right? I always saw her as someone within a healthy weight range which is rare in Hollywood but now I am not so sure anymore…of course she is stunning in character/ Intelligence but because of that I was hoping for her to become a new role model in Hollywood..I really admire her not for her figure but for her as a person and actress of course. Hope you get what I mean.

She says in an interview that her biceps size is nearly 14 inches flexed and a bit over 10 inches unflexed

I was so happy to see Emma Watson finally posted on Twitter after her long absense. Although, I was sad to see the engagement rumors weren’t true… I guess her and Leo Robinton are not engaged. The last movie I saw with Emma was Beauty And The Beast. It was better than Harry Potter I thought.

“He didn’t have much patience”: Emma Watson’s Favorite Harry Potter Director Was the One Who Forced Her to ‘Step Up’ in Franchise’s Best Movie

T he golden trio of the Harry Potter franchise Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint carried the popular film franchise for 8 films from 2001 to 2011. From Philosopher’s Stone to The Deathly Hallows Part 2 , the franchise interestingly changed hands with four directors, ensuring a sense of freshness and distinct style within the films.

Chris Columbus, Mike Newell, David Yates and Alfonso Cuarón directed various films within the franchise. The latter directed the third film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban , which is considered by some as the best entry in the franchise. Watson and his friends had to up their game for Cuarón as he expected the best and was not going to spoon-feed them throughout filming.

Alfonso Cuarón’s ‘No Bullsh*t’ Directing Style Forced Emma Watson And Friends to Step Up

The Harry Potter franchise has seen unique styles and treatments based on who is behind the director’s chair. This is one of the franchise’s greatest strengths as it prevented them from becoming stale and repetitive, with various directors coming in and putting their own stamp on the franchise. Chris Columbus kicked off the first two films with a coming-of-age treatment which worked well.

“You should be afraid of the past”: Watching Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson Together Once Again in This Fan-Made Trailer Makes Us Wish There Was Another Harry Potter Movie

However, with the third film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban , the franchise took a more mature and edgy route with Alfonso Cuarón helming the film. The much-needed change forced actors Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint to come out of their comfort zones as Cuarón was not going to treat them as kids and spoon-feed them throughout filming.

“Is this a money spinner?”: Emma Watson Confronted Harry Potter Producers For a Surprising Call on the Ending of the Franchise

In an interview with Joblo , Watson revealed that Cuarón was not interested in superficial filmmaking and wanted everyone to be very much present in their respective roles. He pushed the actors to get deep into their characters and step up in their acting game, to bring more intensity and emotional pathos to the narrative. Watson said,

I think working with different directors have signaled different [things]… Alfonso [Cuarón] wasn’t going to do any of the ‘kiddie directing’ stuff. He was like, ‘Get up there and do it.’ He didn’t have much patience for ‘Yes wide, look terrified!’ He wasn’t going to do any of that, so he made us step up.

The film proved to be a significant turning point for the franchise where audiences realized the franchise was not only trying to appeal to kids. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban received rave reviews and was a huge hit, grossing $807 million against a $130 million budget (via Box Office Mojo ). Watson has since told Interview Magazine that Cuarón was the director she enjoyed working the most in the franchise.

Alfonso Cuarón Gave The Harry Potter Trio Homework To Reflect on Their Respective Roles

Alfonso Cuarón was the director who changed the gears of the Harry Potter franchise. His unique ambition and visual style transformed the franchise from a coming-of-age story involving magic realism to a mature story about kids learning to amass their skills and also delving deep into Harry’s past.

Harry Potter Fans Would Have Hated Emma Watson’s Hermione Had the Movie Showed Her Evil Nature From J.K. Rowling’s Books

Cuarón is known for being a meticulous director and for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban , he gave assignments to the three leads including Emma Watson to write essays on their thoughts about their characters and their motivations. Watson talked about this on the DVD interview for the film saying (via Cheatsheet) ,

Basically, Alfonso asked us to write an essay about who we thought our characters were, why they did the things they do. Their backgrounds, their feelings, their thoughts, how they’ve changed in the first year of Hogwarts, and the second year of Hogwarts. And now they’re into the third year, how they feel.

Cuarón’s unique method must have certainly helped the actors understand their characters more deeply and personally. This may have also pushed them to go to more intense and dark places with their characters that the franchise had not gone before, as seen in the film. In the end, this experiment proved to be beneficial to the young actors.

Fans can watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on Max.

Emma Watson Biography: Success Story of Actress, Model, and Activist

Emma Watson Biography

Emma Watson

In this success story, we will share Emma Watson’s biography, born Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, a young British actress, rising model, and activist.

Emma Watson gained popularity when she was only nine years old, thanks to the leading role of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, where she starred with Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. Her appearance in all eight film series brought her various awards, worldwide fame, and over £69 million fortune (US$85 million).

Despite her young age, Emma Watson has become very popular, and her career in the movie industry has developed rapidly. During her short career, she won 25 awards and was nominated 35 times.

Table of Contents

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born on April 15, 1990, in Maisons-Laffitte, a respectable suburb of Paris. She was born to a family of English lawyers Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson. Emma was named after the paternal grandmother. The first five years of her life in France (her mother, Jacqueline Luesby, is French), but later, in 1995, the family moved to Oxfordshire, England (the birthplace of her father, Chris Watson). Chris and Jacqueline’s marriage didn’t last long and soon fell apart. Emma stayed with her mother and younger brother, Alex, who is three years younger than her.

Emma’s acting career began at the Dragon School in Oxford, remaining there until 2003. She was actively participating in school plays. By the age of ten, she already performed in roles of an evil witch in Arthur: The Young Years, the part of a swallow in The Swallow and The Prince, the angry cook in Alice in Wonderland, and also the leading female role in The Happy Prince . When she was six, she started attending a part-time theater school, Stagecoach Theatre Arts, where she studied acting, dancing, and singing. When Emma Watson was seven years old, she won the school competition of reciters, and by that time, she already had a strong belief that she would become an actress.

Emma studied diligently at the school. She was fond of literature and sports. The girl has played hockey since she was four, so she joined the hockey team at the school. Besides that, she has always been involved in various athletics and rowing competitions. According to her teachers, she was very active and cheerful.

Since she was a child, Emma loved singing and dancing; that’s why she dreamt about playing roles in musicals. Her childhood idols were famous actresses such as Goldie Hawn, Julia Roberts, and Sandra Bullock. Another passion of the young star was reading, although she never had such a passionate love for books as her heroine, Hermione.

In 1999, thanks to the head of the theater group, Emma Watson came to the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone casting. At that time, she was only nine years old, and she couldn’t even imagine that she could get one of the leading roles. Film producers were surprised by her confidence. Finally, after eight auditions, Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint were informed that they had been approved for the roles of Hermione Granger, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley. J.K. Rowling , the author of the Harry Potter book series, personally approved the selected candidates.

Nine-year-old Emma did not know that this audition would tie her to the Harry Potter film series from 2001 to 2011 and bring her worldwide fame.

Actress Career

The first movie featuring young Emma Watson was  Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which appeared on the screens in 2001. This film broke records for opening-day sales and instantly earned immense popularity. It became the highest-grossing film in commercial distribution in 2001. Emma Watson was nominated for five awards for her excellent acting performance and won the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress.

Only on November 15, 2002, an army of fans, eagerly waiting to continue the story about the young wizards, had a chance to watch a new movie, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. This project did not cause the unanimous admiration of critics. Critics’ reviews differed: the Los Angeles Times  magazine stated that the actors had matured within a year . In contrast,  The Times magazine criticized the film director Chris Columbus for “under-employing” Emma Watson’s prevalent character. However, the film was considered relatively successful. In the second part of the Harry Potter film series, Emma Watson was awarded the Otto Award from the German edition of Bravo magazine for the role of Hermione.

In 2004, Emma Watson appeared in the third part of the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban movie series. This time, critics greatly admired Emma Watson’s acting talent. They noted that the young actress gained more professionalism and seemed more confident. Although Prisoner of Azkaban was the lowest-grossing film of the entire series with a box office of $796.7 million, Emma Watson received two awards: the Otto Award and the Child Performance of the Year from the UK-based film magazine Total Film .

The Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire , the fourth Harry Potter film series installment, was released in 2005. This motion picture reached new milestones compared to the previous movie series. The film set new records at the box office on its opening weekend in May, a non-May opening weekend in the US, and an opening weekend in the UK. For the role in The Goblet of Fire , Watson was nominated for three awards, and once again, she won the Otto Award. In the same year, Watson became the youngest actress whose photo appeared on the cover of the famous Teen Vogue magazine.

The film set a new worldwide opening weekend gross record of $332.7 million. Emma Watson won the National Movie Award for Best Female Performance. Hermione’s, Harry Potter’s, and Ron Weasley’s characters became incredibly popular. On July 09, 2007, the famous trio left imprints of their hands, feet, and magic wands in front of the TCL Chinese Theatre on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

By July 2007, Emma Watson earned more than £10 million ($13 million) for the Harry Potter film series work, and she stated that she was rich enough to retire and never work for money again. Despite the success of  Harry Potter   a nd Order of the Phoenix , all the lead actors doubted whether to sign the contracts to continue their roles for the final two episodes. Nevertheless, they all signed the arrangements, and Emma Watson eventually signed for the position on March 23, 2007.

Apart from the role in the Harry Potter film series, Emma Watson also received the leading role of Pauline Fossil in the 2007 BBC film Ballet Shoes , a novel adaptation of Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild written in 1936. The film director, Sandra Goldbacher, commented that Watson was perfect for that role as Watson had all the qualities that perfectly described the aspiring character Pauline Fossil. It was broadcast in the UK to a 5.7 million TV audience. However, the film did not become very popular and received mixed reviews.

Emma Watson took part in the creation of an animated children’s film, The Tale of Despereaux . Emma lent her voice to the character of Princess Pea. This animated comedy was released in December 2008 and grossed $87 million globally.

In real life, Emma Watson is as curious and demanding as her character, Hermione Granger. The actress successfully combines her studies with a busy shooting schedule. In 2009, Watson enrolled at Brown University, and in the same year, the sixth part of the movie series Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released , where Emma was brilliant, as always. For this role, Emma was nominated for three film awards, Best Female Performance, Favorite On-Screen Team, and Choice Movie Actress: Fantasy, but did not win. In 2009, Watson appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records pages as the highest-grossing actress of the decade.

Watson’s filming for the final part, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, began on February 18, 2009, and finished on June 12, 2010. Due to the scripting part, the book’s film adaptation was divided into two parts. Therefore, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 was released in November 2010, and the second movie was released in July 2011. Thanks to the final parts of the film, Emma Watson won four awards: Favorite Ensemble Movie Cast, Choice Movie Liplock, Choice Summer Movie Star: Female, and Choice Movie Actress: Sci-Fi/Fantasy.

In 2010, Emma Watson starred in the music video for the song Say You Don’t Want It by One Night Only after meeting lead singer George Craig at the Winter/Summer Burberry advertising campaign in 2010.

In 2011, Emma Watson starred as Lucy in My Week with Marilyn ; it was her first post- Harry Potter film. Her character, Lucy, is a wardrobe assistant who is flirted with by Colin Clark, the movie’s main character, and has several dates with him.

The actress won the People’s Choice Award in the Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress nomination for her role in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) film, a 1999 epistolary novel adaptation of the same name written by Stephen Chbosky. Filming started in the summer of 2011, and the film was released in September 2012. In 2012, at ELLE’s 19th annual Women in Hollywood Awards, Emma Watson was honored with the Calvin Klein Emerging Star Spotlight Award for iconic performance in moving pictures.

In March 2013, Watson had negotiations regarding playing the role of Cinderella in Disney’s screenplay adaptation of Cinderella . She was offered the chance to play the part of the main character. However, she later declined this proposal.

In April 2013, Watson received a special Trailblazer Award at the MTV Movie Awards ceremony; this prize is presented to individuals who inspire the young generation and have made their mark in the entertainment industry. In October 2013, Emma Watson became a Woman of the Year according to the famous men’s magazine British   GQ . In 2013, Emma Watson appeared in the role of Nicki Moore in the film The Bling Ring (2013). The film was based on actual events of Bling Ring robberies. While the movie’s picture received mixed reviews, Emma Watson was praised for portraying Nicky. Watson was supported in the apocalyptic comedy This is the End (2013), where she starred with famous actors such as Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Channing Tatum.

In March 2014, Emma Watson appeared in the movie Noah (2014), directed by Darren Aronofsky. She played the role of Ila, Noah’s daughter-in-law, and worked with such actors as Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, and others.

Even though almost all of her childhood was spent on various film sets, the actress was rarely offered the leading roles. Nevertheless, the career of a famous British actress continued to evolve quite rapidly.

Watson starred as Lena in a true-story movie called Colonia (2015). In the center of the plot of Colonia is a young couple from Germany – Lena and Daniel. Young people appeared at the heart of the Chilean military coup of 1973, the result of which was the rise to power of General Augusto Pinochet. The workforces of the secret police kidnap Daniel, and Lena starts searching for her lover to rescue him. As a result of her search, she comes to the charitable and educational society called “Colonia Dignidad.”

According to Emma’s words, the work on Colonia excited her the most. It allowed her to try herself in a European historical drama.

Emma Watson will star as Belle in the new adaptation of the famous Disney fairy tale Beauty and the Beast , which is planned to be released in 2017. Emma Watson even took several singing lessons for the role of Belle. The director of the new film adaptation of the Oscar-winning tale is Bill Condon, the film director of The Fifth Estate (2013), Tilda (2011), and the last two parts of The Twilight Saga .

Emma Watson also starred in such movies as My Week with Marilyn (2011), Regression (2015), and The Circle (2016).

Modeling Career

Unlike Radcliffe and Grint, who mainly concentrate on their acting careers, Watson tries herself in other areas. In 2009, she demonstrated a collection of clothes from Burberry. In 2010, Emma Watson became the face of Burberry’s spring collection, along with her brother Alex, model Max Hurd, and musicians George Craig and Matt Gilmour.

Later, Emma signed a contract with People Tree, a brand that specializes in ethnic clothes.

In March 2011, Emma Watson became a face and a representative of the famous French house Lancôme. In September 2011, she appeared in the new Lancôme Trésor Midnight Rose perfume advertisement.

Emma was growing up and becoming more and more attractive. In May 2013, Watson was featured on the cover of British GQ in the image of Julia Roberts in the movie Pretty Woman (1 990 ).

Later, Watson posed naked for the project Natural Beauty by photographer and activist James Houston to call attention to the protection of nature.

Emma Watson appeared nine times on the covers of ELLE magazine in different countries. In April 2014, she graced two covers simultaneously on ELLE : in the United States and Australia.

Many people even predicted her brilliant future as a model. Although Emma often attends photo shoots for various glossy magazines, she does not plan to get seriously engaged in this business and considers it just a fad.

Despite quite a successful actress career, Emma Watson pays much attention to her education. She has gone through several educational stages in her life.

From September 1995 to June 1998, Emma Watson attended Lynam’s kindergarten, a part of Dragon School. Lynams is one of the most prestigious kindergartens in England, considered a pre-stage of schooling. Emma showed her talent at the age of 7 years; she read a poem by James Reeves Sea and took first place in the recitation competition.

In 1998, Emma started her studies at the Dragon School in Oxford. This school is considered one of the best private schools in England. Many graduates who attended the Dragon School became famous in different areas and succeeded incredibly. She played field hockey club in Oxford.

From 2003 to 2007, after studying at the Dragon School, Watson enrolled at Headington School, Oxford private girls’ school.

This place may seem unusual for the modern generation because all students here are females. Also, each student had to participate in every school event, which was tricky for young Emma Watson due to her intensive schedule. The girl met her best friends: top models Sophie Sumner and Amy Vaver.

Because of the constant shooting and participation in various public events, Emma Watson was always exhausted, and she simply did not have enough energy or time to study correctly and attend school. After the work on the fifth part of the Harry Potter film series was over, Emma was determined to go back to school. However, when she received an offer to play one of the significant roles in the Ballet Shoes, she couldn’t refuse. Of course, because of her popularity, teachers forgave the girl for her absences in classes and delays with her homework, so Emma graduated from school without any difficulties.

In 2008, Emma Watson finished summer acting courses at The Royal Academy of Dramatic (RADA) in London. RADA is one of the most prestigious and influential theater schools in the whole world. After graduation, Emma took a sabbatical year from her studies to continue filming in the Harry Potter film series.

In 2009, Emma Watson decided to pursue her education and applied to Brown University, one of the oldest universities in the USA. This institution is a part of the system of the best educational establishments in the United States, the Ivy League. Emma’s primary focus was studying history, philosophy, and English literature. However, due to her participation in creating the last part of the Harry Potter movie series, Emma Watson had to pause her education in 2010.

From 2011 to 2012, the actress continued to gather knowledge and self-improve at Worcester College. This institution is an excellent mix of old traditions and modern views. The primary difference of this college from other establishments is that it has no limitations regarding the age of its students; it is open to everyone who has passed the exams. Emma Watson chose Worcester College because of the student exchange programs that allowed scholars to transfer to Brown University. She was there for only one year, studying English literature, but she never regretted her staying there.

In 2012, Watson enrolled in Brown University for the second time after taking a 2-year break. Despite all the difficulties and hurdles, she finished her education in May 2014 and earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. As she admitted, the university study was accompanied by inevitable hassles, but the students and teachers always treated her with understanding and were ready to help her.

Family and Personal Life

As for the family, Emma Watson, apart from her brother Alex, has twin stepsisters, Nina Watson and Lucy Watson, and brother Toby Watson. On the mother’s side, she also has brothers David and Andy. Even though the actress does not see them often, the family is always in the first place for her.

Emma’s father, Chris Watson, was born in 1958 in Britain. He graduated from Oxford University and obtained a law degree. During his studies, Chris Watson met Emma’s mother-to-be, Jacqueline Luesby, who also studies at the University of Oxford. In the late 80s, they moved to France. For some reason, the relationship between Chris and Jacqueline looked more like a friendship than love, and the couple decided to divorce in 1995.

Today, Chris Watson is a partner and one of the executives at the CMS Cameron McKenna company. He speaks English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian. He has a vast professional experience. Chris was an intern in Iran and France, and his articles are often published in law magazines.

Chris Watson played a massive role in Emma’s life. After the divorce, Emma returned to Britain with her brother Alex and mother. The family’s financial situation is shaky because Jacqueline and Chris do not earn much money. However, Mr. Watson was determined to give his daughter an excellent education and insisted on her attendance at one of the most prestigious schools in England. Emma always says she is very grateful to her father for it; she tries to study as perfectly as possible to demonstrate her gratitude to her dad. Now, Emma and Chris often spend time together. They go for walks and attend various exhibitions. Chris Watson almost always accompanies Emma at different events and premieres.

Emma’s mother, Jacqueline Luesby, was born in 1959 in France. Just like Chris Watson, she graduated from Oxford University with a law degree. Jacqueline prefers to avoid the cameras, so she is rarely seen with Emma. But, according to Emma’s words, her mother is the one who influenced her style by her French elegance and charm. In every interview, Emma Watson speaks about her mother with incredible tenderness, warmth, and love.

Alexander Chris Watson was born in Paris, France, on December 15, 1992. Now, he is building his modeling career. He took part in photo shoots with Emma for Burberry and People Tree advertising campaigns. Alex Watson starred in the music video of a famous English singer, Pixie Lott. Also, on his account are a few bit parts in several movies and several photo shoots for British magazines. Emma and Alex have excellent and friendly relationships. Alex considers Emma a great support for him: she gives valuable tips that help his career development. She is not just his sister but also his best friend.

Nina Watson and Lucy Watson are the daughters of Chris Watson and his new wife, Julie. Twins were born on September 17, 2004. They also appeared in the movie The Ballet Shoes in episodic roles and played little Pauline Fossil. Toby Watson was born in 2003. He is also Chris and Julie’s child. He was seen several times in London together with Emma. In 2010, Emma Watson took him to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando. At the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, all guests were touched when they saw Emma hugging Toby, Nina, and Lucy. Emma likes to be an older sister to her numerous brothers and sisters.

Emma also has stepbrothers David and Andy Taylor, from her mother’s side. They are the sons of Emma’s stepfather.

Love Affairs

Emma Watson prefers not to discuss her private life, so she rarely mentions her love affairs. The actress prefers to reply to such questions with general phrases about what qualities she likes in men and what kind of family she wants. However, apart from long relationships, Emma Watson also had numerous admirers, and she rarely lacked men’s attention.

During filming the first movie, she liked Tom Felton, who played the role of Draco Malfoy. Later, Emma Watson confessed that when she was ten-twelve years old, she had a terrible crush on Tom Felton, who ignored her. Tom saw Emma as his little sister, and it broke her heart. The first love is not always mutual.

The first profound love of Emma Watson was a rugby player, Tom Ducker. The couple started dating when Emma was 17, but, as often happens at their age, the relationship didn’t last too long.

In the summer of 2009, Emma Watson met a 27-year-old bank clerk, Jay Barrymore, with whom Emma developed her first lasting relationship: the couple had been together for over two years.

There is little information on Will Adamowicz, except that he was born between 1989 and 1991 and likes rowing. Once the couple’s first pictures appeared in the press, Will Adamowicz deleted all his social profiles from the Internet. In 2012, Will visited Emma at the film set of The Bling Ring, after which the couple attended the Coachella festival, where they celebrated Emma’s birthday and had a lot of fun. In January 2014, fans and the press found out about the end of their relationship right after journalists raised a fuss because of Will’s photo with the package of white powder. Later, it became known that Will and Emma had parted in the summer of 2013. According to their friends, the actress’s busy schedule was the reason for this.

At the beginning of 2014, there were only rumors about a new relationship with an Oxford rugby player, Matthew Janney. However, sometime later, the couple was caught together on the island of Antigua in the Caribbean, and this was the first time they were seen together. Twenty-two years old then, Matt played in the Oxford rugby team and was the best team player. Therefore, it explains why Emma Watson started to attend rugby matches more often at the end of 2013. In November 2014, the couple ended their year-long relationship . The official reason for the breakup was the busy schedules of both Emma and Matt. After the break up with ex Matt Janney, Emma Watson commented in an interview for the September 2015 issue of  Vogue UK : “I went on a silent retreat because I really wanted to figure out how to be at home with myself.”

The press and numerous fans always discuss Emma’s relationships with handsome guys. This is unsurprising because the actress is guarding her private life so carefully that it only stirs curiosity. As the Western media reports, Emma Watson is now in love. Her choice did not stop at some famous actors, models, or singers. The name of Emma’s protégé is William ‘Mack’ Knight, and he describes himself as a US tech and business entrepreneur. Mack has been working for four years as a senior manager at Medallia company, which sells software to improve the customer experience. A source in The Sun magazine told them: “Mack is just a normal, down-to-earth guy.” It remains unknown how William Knight got acquainted with Emma Watson. However, Mack visited Emma in her hometown of Oxford for New Year 2016.

Social Activity

Emma Watson can boast of stylish photo shoots, memorable roles in modern films, and social activities.

Emma Watson actively fights for women’s rights. Watson visited Bangladesh and Zambia to promote girls’ education in these countries.

In June 2014, Watson became a Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women. This entity started its work in January 2011. It was created to combat discrimination against women in twelve significant areas of modern life: education, health, employment, human rights, and others.

In September 2014, Emma Watson gave a speech at the UN headquarters in New York to support the launch of the HeForShe campaign that encourages men to stand for gender equality.

Also, in September, Watson visited Uruguay for the first time as the Goodwill Ambassador of UN Women. There, she gave a speech emphasizing the need for women’s participation in politics.

The HeForShe campaign had a massive success on the Internet. Thanks to this campaign, the #HeForShe hashtag was mentioned more than 1.3 billion times on social networks, raising the question of inequality between men and women. In 2015, Emma Watson was named The Campaigner of the Year and received the Observer Ethical Award of 2015 .

Emma Watson wants to devote herself to social activities in 2016 as the Goodwill Ambassador for the UN. In January 2016, she started the feminist Goodreads book club Our Shared Shelf , which aimed to raise the topic of gender inequality by discussing scientific articles and books on this subject.

Emma Watson’s life story is vivid and bright but simultaneously challenging. Despite her young age, she is already involved in social activity and joined the women’s rights movement.
