  1. Orphan movie review & film summary (2009)

The Demon Seed was a bumper crop. Rosemary would have been happy to have this baby. Here is a shamelessly effective horror film based on the most diabolical of movie malefactors, a child. Pity. Esther is such a bright child. So well-behaved. Her paintings are so masterful. She sits down at the piano and rips off a little Tchaikovsky.

  4. Orphan Movie Review

What you will—and won't—find in this movie. Extreme violence, much of it involving children. Parents need to know that Orphan is a gory horror movie centers on extremely violent, sexual acts carried out by a 9-year-old girl. While the film's ultimate twist negates some of the queasy, sleazy feeling that comes from watching this kind of ...

  10. An 'Orphan' With Issues (And A Big, Bad Secret)

Movie Review - 'Orphan' - An Adoptee With Issues (And A Big, Bad Secret) Jaume Collet-Serra's shameless little shocker isn't good, exactly, but it's enjoyably trashy and genuinely campy — not ...

  11. Orphan

July 24, 2009. A movie review by James Berardinelli. Putting aside a needlessly grotesque dream sequence that opens the movie, Orphan looks for a few fleeting moments like it might be a clever psychological thriller - the kind in which the audience is never quite sure whether the events on screen are happening as they're shown or whether they ...

  12. A Review of the Horror Movie 'Orphan'

The End Result . Cinematically, Orphan offers nothing new; it follows the standard "killer kid movie" format (playing much like Omen IV), from the child's outward cordiality to the ramp-up of sinister incidents that follow her to the Omen-style motherly suspicions that are discounted by the doting dad.Unoriginality aside, though, this is a perfect summer film — brainless, shallow ...

  13. Movie Review: Orphan (2009)

Into this genre now steps 2009's Orphan. Instead of being an overly effective suspense piece, however, this is a predominantly boring, meandering film which suffers from repetition and poor scripting. If the creepy kid horror genre is in need of resuscitation, this subpar affair will not provide it. The plot, in a nutshell, concerns Kate ...

  14. The Independent Critic

Rated R. RUNNING TIME. 123 Mins. DISTRIBUTED BY. Warner Brothers. "Orphan" Review. Should "Orphan," the latest film from Jaume Collet-Serra, become a box-office success, young actress Isabelle Fuhrman may have a problem. Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jimmy Bennett. Rated. R. Runtime. 123 min. Release Date. 07/24/2009. For some moviegoers, Orphan might seem silly at first glance. 18. 'Orphan' (2009) Review: The Not-So-Small Wonder

It's deep sea horror, Lovecraftian creatures, Kristen Stewart, and Vincent Cassel. The final product is an arduous 95-minute more-people-should-have-died-fest. Even Stewart and Cassel couldn't save this sinking ship. Literally. A group of researchers are aboard the Kepler 822 when disaster strikes.

  21. The Orphanage movie review & film summary (2007)

The film, a Spanish production directed by Juan Antonio Bayona and produced by Guillermo Del Toro (" The Devil's Backbone ," "Pan's Labyrinth"), is deliberately aimed at viewers with developed attention spans. It lingers to create atmosphere, a sense of place, a sympathy with the characters, instead of rushing into cheap thrills.
