Several factors are considered for job selection like experience, benefits, learnings, workplace environment, and salary. Personally, I feel salary is an important factor, but not the most important one.

Salary and benefits are undoubtedly important. For instance, an individual will dedicate greater efforts to his work if he feels fairly compensated. But there is more to a job than salary. Some people prefer a lower-paying job because of the exposure and prestige it gives. Furthermore, such jobs offer the possibility of meeting certain people of high society and dealing with different and relevant matters that require solutions. For instance, working as an intern in a top-rated law firm may earn you less compared to establishing your own law firm but will reward you in terms of learnings, exposure and contacts.

A company rewards its employees in ways other than money, like a good workplace environment and employee benefits. For instance, an employee would be thrilled to work in a setting where he is not working till he feels burned out, and the hierarchy actively takes inputs of the subordinates as to how daily functioning can be improved.

On the contrary, salary also bears certain importance. If an employee is given a posh remuneration, he will be able to solidify his future, improve his lifestyle and facilitate those dependent on him in a better way. But, what is the benefit of a job which gives you a lot of money but zero satisfaction? That person might even quit the company if he feels undervalued and overworked.

Hence, salary may be a significant component of a job, but it is not an all-important consideration when choosing a job.

Salary is one of the most significant elements to consider when deciding between jobs because it is the ultimate reward for the work done and plays a vital part in job selection. However, I do not believe that salary is the most significant factor to consider when choosing a job because job satisfaction and career progression are equally important aspects to consider. The following essay will elucidate my opinions.

To begin with, salary cannot be the sole consideration when selecting a job because job satisfaction is also critical. As a result, most people place a high value on job fulfillment overpay. Work-life balance, quality of work, working hours, perks and benefits, work environment, and vacation are some significant factors. Job satisfaction has been scientifically proven to boost people’s happiness and well-being. For example, a person who earns less money will be happier than someone who earns a lot of money but is under a lot of stress and pressure at work. As a result, job satisfaction should be taken into account when choosing a job.

Furthermore, when it comes to choosing a job, people place a great value on career advancement. Other components of career growth that impact a person’s future career path include promotions, new skills, and increasing job responsibilities. For example, some people want to advance in their careers, so they choose jobs that provide prospects for advancement, even if they are only paid a few dollars. In another instance, if a job pays an astronomical salary, but the working condition and environment are pathetic, then it isn’t very smart of the individual to take such jobs. Thus, a job that pays a little less but offers better working circumstances is a far better option.

Salary is indeed the most critical aspect because no other factor has a more significant impact on a person’s life or lifestyle than money. A good salary also improves a person’s self-esteem and social position. However, I believe that salary alone cannot provide contentment because what good is a well-paying job if it does not provide career advancement or satisfaction? Thus, essential facts such as working hours, working environment, and job happiness should be taken into account when selecting a decent job.

To sum up, I believe that remuneration shouldn’t be the only factor. Individuals should consider other parameters like working conditions and hours, career growth, and satisfaction while choosing between jobs. Thus, it is prudent to be mindful of the employment choices by weighing all facets of the job equally.

Job Satisfaction

by Vince Tseng (Ballarat)

job satisfaction or salary essay

Your grammar and sentence structure needs a lot of improvement. The essay lacks cohesion, it's confusing and not progressive. Ideas are under developed or generalised, supporting statements are insufficient and confusing. Vocabulary is fine, but you need to improve your word selection.

Overall, this would be a band 6 essay at best, if not 5 or lower.

Which is more essential: Having a high salary or job satisfaction?

Isabella Sobejano , Staff Writer | October 2, 2018

There is not one person who doesn’t need or want more money. Whether it’s for a vacation or a new car, everyone appreciates a few extra dollars. However, is having a job that pays well but doesn’t offer anything else really the key to happiness?

job satisfaction or salary essay

While the term “happiness” differs from person to p

erson, I would say job satisfaction has more meaning. Yes, good wages can lead to job satisfaction and earning enough to make a living is important, but they aren’t the only reason employees find satisfaction in their jobs. It’s important to pursue a field that gives you personal happiness because if you can obtain a good pay, but you are not happy, then there’s no point.

While money is a satisfaction factor in a job, it shouldn’t be the only factor driving a person to pursue a specific career. Nonetheless, it’s not to say that a good salary isn’t important because for some people it’s essential since they have a family to take care of or several bills to pay.

However, according to Alisa Wolfson, writing from the New York Post, “Getting a raise won’t make you hate your job any less.”

Essentially, if salary is the only motivation behind performing a job, then it is not a good match for you or your skills, which can eventually lead to poor performance. This domino effect can continue, which may lead to career termination, which would result in little to no salary and no job satisfaction.

Additionally, job satisfaction is ultimately more imp

ortant than a high salary because if employees are happy at work, they will put their best foot forward, which is less likely to happen if one pursues a career that does not satisfy them.

During the college application process, I often heard peers sayin they were planning on majoring in a specific subject in order to obtain a career with a hefty salary in the future.

While it’s understandable that a high salary is enticing, I couldn’t imagine driving to work every single morning to a job that I didn’t enjoy performing.

In fact, Wolfson said, “Making more money doesn’t always mean you’ll be happier at work.”

Pursuing a job that makes you content is crucial because it’s a part of your life forever.

Job satisfaction doesn’t only pertain to the work environment, but it helps you to be both personally and professionally content as well. At the end of the day we are working to lead our life peacefully. It’s possible to argue that one can travel overseas or buy several luxurious goods with a high salary job in order to be satisfied.

However, if you pursue a field or job that you enjoy, then you don’t need money to satisfy your wants because you are already happy.

Additionally, according to a study done by two economists from the University of Basel and published in the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization revealed that wage increases do not have a persistent effect on job satisfaction.

It was found that job satisfaction was positively influenced by wage increases, but it was only temporary, typically lasting four years. This was due to the fact that people adapt to their new wage level over time and end up desiring more money.

Another side to this is that sometimes rewarding jobs may not always pay well at the beginning. Although, over time, the worker’s enthusiasm and dedication may lead to potential promotions, which can ultimately make the job a lucrative career.

Overall, job satisfaction has more weight and meaning than pursuing a job that offers a high salary. When thinking about the long run it’s important to be happy in your personal life, and that should never be based off a quantity or sum of money. After all, salary typically comes once a month, but job satisfaction stays with you every minute of the day.

Sample Essay 1

Asserting that salary is the foremost criterion in job selection is overly simplistic and narrow. This essay argues that factors such as job satisfaction, work-life balance, and personal growth are considerably more influential than financial benefits. These elements will be thoroughly examined in this essay to illustrate their superior influence on career decisions.

Job satisfaction is a critical determinant of career choice, often overshadowing salary in its importance. It encompasses not only the enjoyment derived from daily tasks but also the profound sense of achievement felt when one's work resonates with their personal values. This is particularly evident in the non-profit sector, where employees frequently accept lower wages for the profound fulfillment gained from making a tangible societal impact. Research from the University of Michigan corroborates this, revealing that workers in this sector report higher job satisfaction levels compared to their corporate peers, despite lower financial compensation. This underscores the significant value of intrinsic rewards in a job, which can far outweigh the financial benefits, enhancing employee loyalty and job retention.

Furthermore, work-life balance and personal growth are indispensable factors in a satisfying career, often surpassing salary in employee surveys. Modern workers, especially millennials, value flexible working conditions that allow them to manage personal and professional commitments seamlessly, alongside opportunities for personal and professional development. For example, companies like Google not only offer competitive salaries but also foster a culture that promotes personal growth and work-life harmony. This is achieved through various perks such as comprehensive wellness programs and opportunities for ongoing education. These benefits attract and retain employees who prioritize personal development and well-being over mere monetary rewards, contributing to a more dynamic and innovative workforce.

In conclusion, while salary is an important aspect of job selection, it is far from being the most crucial factor. Job satisfaction, work-life balance, and opportunities for personal growth play more decisive roles in shaping career choices. By prioritizing these factors over salary, individuals are more likely to experience fulfillment and long-term success in their professional lives, affirming that the best career decisions are made beyond the paycheck.

Sample Essay 2

When selecting a job, many factors come into play, such as salary, job satisfaction, and career growth. The assertion of stating salary is the most important factor is an oversimplification. While salary plays a significant role, I believe other factors, including job satisfaction and career advancement opportunities are equally crucial.

Firstly, job satisfaction is a vital element that can outweigh the appeal of a high salary. Individuals spend a substantial portion of their lives at work, if the nature of work is unfulfilling and stressful, it can lead to burnout and poor mental health. For instance, if a software engineer works in a top tech firm with a high salary but finds the work tedious and corporate culture toxic, the level of happiness and productivity might suffer. A career path that provides personal fulfillment and aligns with one’s passion can lead to a more balanced and content life.

Secondly, career growth and opportunities for professional development are crucial considerations. A job that provides training, mentoring and a clear path for advancement is more beneficial than staying in a high-pay position with limited promotion opportunities in the long run. For example, a junior marketing professional may prefer to work in a smaller firm that offers plenty of hands-on experience and chances to climb the corporate ladder over a higher salary job with fewer opportunities for advancement. This strategic choice of career will lead to greater job satisfaction and higher salary in the future.

However, it is essential to acknowledge why some people consider salary the most important factor. In many cases, individuals have substantial financial responsibilities, such as supporting family, paying off student loans and saving for the future. Having a high-paying job can offer financial security, improve living standard, and reduce stress related to economic uncertainty. For example, a single parent may prioritize salary when choosing a job, so he or she can afford better education and a more comfortable lifestyle for the children. In the case when people need immediate and tangible benefits, salary is the most significant factor over others.

In conclusion, while salary is an essential consideration when selecting a job, it should not be viewed as the most important one. Job satisfaction and career growth hold equal importance, which will lead to a more balanced and sustainable professional life.

Sample Essay 3

While salary is often considered a pivotal factor when choosing a job, it should not be seen as the sole criterion. This essay contends that while remuneration plays a significant role, other factors such as job satisfaction and career progression are equally crucial. The ensuing discussion will delve into the balance between financial incentives and personal fulfillment in the workplace.

Salary undeniably holds substantial allure, offering immediate and quantifiable benefits. High earnings not only provide financial security but also furnish opportunities for a better quality of life, including access to superior healthcare and educational advantages for one’s family. For instance, a survey by Forbes highlighted that employees with higher wages report feeling significantly less stress about daily expenses, which directly impacts their mental well-being and overall life satisfaction. However, this monetary focus can sometimes overshadow other crucial job attributes such as work culture and personal fulfillment, leading to dissatisfaction if these aspects are not met. Such a singular focus on salary might fulfill short-term financial needs but neglects the broader aspects of career satisfaction that contribute to long-term happiness and engagement.

Conversely, factors such as job satisfaction and opportunities for professional growth often yield long-term contentment that salary alone cannot guarantee. Job satisfaction originates not only from engagement and passion for one’s duties but also from a positive work environment and alignment with personal values and career goals. For example, a study by Harvard Business Review noted that individuals in careers aligned with their interests and values are more likely to exhibit higher job performance and lower turnover rates. This alignment enhances their sense of accomplishment and belonging—a fulfillment that high salaries cannot always replicate. Additionally, such satisfaction fosters a deeper commitment to one's role, reducing the likelihood of job-hopping and building a more stable and productive career trajectory.

In conclusion, while salary is undoubtedly important and provides fundamental financial support, it is not the sole factor to consider when choosing a job. Job satisfaction and career growth also hold substantial weight and can lead to more sustainable long-term happiness and productivity. Therefore, it is essential to strike a balance between financial benefits and personal fulfillment to achieve a truly rewarding career.

Band 6+: Job satisfaction is more important than job salary. Do you agree or disagree?

It is often argued that it is more advantageous to choose a job with high wage even if it doesn’t appea to you at all. I completely disagree with this opinion and think that job satisfaction is much more important than salary.

First of all, I believe that job satisfaction gives people a sesnse of fulfilment no money can guarantee. Even if someone is earning a high salary, but feel tensed and compromises with his conscience, this person won’t enjoy his life. While pursuing one’s intersts will always bring pleasure and feeling of satisfaction. For example, a lot of famous researchers made their career not because of appealing wages, but because they were passionate about science l. That’s why it is more important to choose the kind of work that makes you happy than to look only at high salary.

Secondly, doing what you like keeps you motivated and therefore leads to a career growth. In other words, there is a strong relation between job satisfaction and productivity. People who love their jobs can easily excel in their fields of work and achieve better results than those, who put salary on the first place. For instance, Henry Miller decided to leave his everyday job despite a good wage and ventured to become a writer. And after enduring years of ups and downs he became one of the most famous and well-paid authors of the tweentieth century. Thus advantages of jobs that keep you satisfied outwiegh the drawback of a low salary in a long term perspective.

To conclude, I strongly believe that job satisfaction is more beneficial than high salary because it makes people happy and motivated.

Model Answer:

job satisfaction or salary essay

There is no doubt that most adults spend the majority of their day at work. Thus, it is extremely important that their job is both rewarding and fulfilling. In this essay, I will examine factors related to job satisfaction and how realistic these factors are.

First of all, the most important reason that people work is for the money. A recent survey by a leading HR firm revealed that people working in a high paying job are 80%  happier than those who are not. However, job satisfaction is not only limited to financial reward. The office environment and the long term prospect of the career path are equally important. For example, people whose efforts  are not being appreciated by their company will not be enjoying what they are doing.  On the other hand, many people may be enjoying their job but the limited money that they earn might make  them unhappy with their profession. For example, many artists find it difficult to make a living even though they may feel lucky to be doing what they love.

So, in order to have a highly satisfied career, a person needs to be doing a job that they enjoy, working for a company with great environment, and getting paid for what they deserve. All these components are essential to achieving job satisfaction. Realistically, it is not easy for someone to have all that under the  same roof.

In conclusion, it is very difficult to get an ideal job that satisfies all the requirements of job satisfaction. However, everyone can still be happy with reporting to work everyday if  they are willing to make some sacrifices.

Essay 308 – Salary is more important than job satisfaction

Gt writing task 2 / essay sample # 308.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Some people believe that salary is more important than job satisfaction for employees.

How far do you agree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer:

Some people believe that commanding a high salary is more vital than job contentment. This essay entirely agrees with that statement because the writer believes that a higher wage improves the quality of life and brings social status – both of which are important for having a stress-free happy life.

A well-paid job helps a person lead an exultant life. In simple words, when an individual earns a high salary, it guarantees a higher standard of life. Such employees can meet their growing demand both for basic human necessities and opulent things such as lavish homes, expensive accessories, foreign holidays – to name but a few. This affluent lifestyle, in turn, brings happiness or at least remove many sources of unhappiness. For instance, a study by the University of Sydney in 2021 shed the light on the fact that a hefty remuneration translated to increased happiness. A large income, thus, guarantees the pursuit of happiness.

Another reason why a generous pay scale is considered more crucial than other ingredients of job contentment is that it is regarded as a key indicator for status in most societies. Having a high-paying salary means accumulation of wealth and possessions of wealth is a major characteristic differentiating elite from other class groups in society. Karl Marx’s analysis of class divisions is a case in point. He argued that social class is entirely based on wealth. A fat salary is, therefore, the reason people can shift to a higher class and achieve more success. This is why salary is more critical than contentment at the workplace.

In conclusion, a high pay scale helps employees live happy life and raise their status in society. I, therefore, believe that salary exceeds other job satisfactions in its importance in a worker’s life.
