Your chance of acceptance, your chancing factors, extracurriculars, children of military - college scholarships.
Hey everyone, I'm a junior and my parent is in the military. I've heard something about children of military personnel being eligible for certain college scholarships. Can anyone clarify if this is true, and if so, how I might apply for these scholarships?
Absolutely, as a child of a military service member, you have access to an array of scholarships designed specifically for military dependents, covering partial to even substantial amounts of college cost. Here's a brief rundown of some you may find applicable.
The Armed Forces Crossroads Scholarships for Military Children Program offers scholarships to eligible children of active-duty, reserve/guard, or retired military commissary customers. Grades, community service, leadership, and extracurricular activities are all considered in this process.
Another notable scholarship is the American Legion Legacy Scholarship. It is available for children of veterans who died on active duty post 9/11 or have a combined disability rating of 50% or greater from the Veterans Affairs office.
Additionally, the Blue Star Families Scholarship offers programs for military dependents aiming to ease financial stress. The Fisher House Foundation's Scholarships for Military Children program is another option, as well as the Heroes' Legacy Scholarships for deserving youth of those who have fallen or become disabled through their active military service since September 11, 2001.
In terms of applying, each scholarship has its own process and timeline. Generally, they require filling out an application form, including information about your military parent, providing your academic records, and often writing an essay. Always make sure to closely read the eligibility requirements and application instructions.
Lastly, remember to also explore scholarships beyond those tied to your parent's military service. Many colleges, organizations, and companies offer scholarships based on academic merit, community service, extracurricular activities, or other specific criteria.
And of course, remember to fill out your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to qualify for need-based financial aid. The student aid index (SAI) derived from this document will help colleges determine your eligibility for financial aid.

Living a sustainable lifestyle requires dedication and passion. Anyone who makes sustainability a priority has their own particular reasons for doing so-some live sustainably to help protect the environment and limit our reliance on precious natural resources, and others do so to help build a better future for generations to come. Here at Good360, we work hard to help companies reduce their waste outputs and total carbon footprints by donating excess stock or products to nonprofits in need. For the Good360 team, living sustainably means that we do everything we can to limit waste production, protect valuable natural resources and improve the lives of those in need. A better, more sustainable future, to us, is one where we do more with less, and where we all work together to build stronger, and more efficient, communities. Sustainability scholarship list, important information to remember when applying for scholarships.
As environmental issues grow increasingly urgent due to our changing climate , increasingly frequent disasters and a threatening scarcity of resources , more organizations are supporting the need for action from young scholars and new innovators.
Unfortunately, resources and educational opportunities are not equitable, and so not everyone is afforded the same opportunity to attend university, to travel in order to develop their skills or to work and collaborate with other, equally passionate students. This is untenable, as these global issues require study and action from all regions in order to bring about effective change.
Environmental scholarships and sustainability scholarships can help to provide underprivileged students with financial aid to travel and attend programs in sustainability, global health and social justice. These environmental studies scholarships are especially helpful for international students who wish to attend specific programs, who, in turn, can bring different perspectives and new approaches.
Beyond helping with tuition and travel costs, scholarships can:

Please note that despite the length and details of this list, it is not comprehensive – there are many more scholarship opportunities available, some specific for working in certain fields or attending specific institutions.
For additional resources of financial assistance, consider searching nonprofit and organizations dedicated toward science and technology related to the environment and sustainability. The American Geophysical Union , National Science Foundation , and the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education are a few to review.
Of course, you should always contact the financial aid department of the university you plan on attending.
While grants are awarded based on need, scholarships are awarded more on the basis of merit. When applying for scholarships, be sure to check if you meet the listed criteria and that you are able to provide all required information.
You will have to apply for financial aid at the time you submit your application for admission to a program. Any and all students requesting any form of financial aid (like scholarships, fellowships or student employment) within the U.S. must submit applications for financial aid:
If you’re a first-generation college student then you may also be eligible to receive assistance from support networks like College Greenlight .

The college application process has been a stressful one, but CollegeXpress has eased some of that stress with its readily available college resources. At the beginning of the process, I frequently used the college search feature, and now that I’m almost done applying, I’ve started using the scholarship search. Both of these resources have made it easier to find relevant information.

CollegeXpress helped me gain interest in many colleges/universities and many scholarships. I would say the most helpful thing CollegeXpress has done for me is sending me emails that tell me certain types of colleges are interested in me as well as emails about scholarships that I can look at and possibly apply for.

This whole website has helped me overcome the attitude I had before. I was scared to even approach the thought of college because it was so much. I knew it wasn’t just a few easy steps, and I panicked mostly, instead of actually trying. Without realizing it, CollegeXpress did exactly what I usually do when I panic, which is take it one step at a time. With college I forget that because it’s more than just a small to-do list, but this website was really helpful and overall amazing. So thank you!

I discovered CollegeXpress while embarking on my college search journey as an excited—but scared and way confused—high schooler without a counselor or college-bound sibling to give me advice. Let me tell you, I’m so glad that I stumbled on this community! CollegeXpress helped me find potential colleges and keep application deadlines straight. It gave me a great list of scholarships, and the blogs and emails made me feel like I wasn’t going it alone. Almost three years later and with freshman year of college down, I still love the CollegeXpress vibe so much that I’m writing for them. I’d recommend this site to anyone!
