Three professionals in a meeting, discussing over a digital tablet with positive expressions, using Biteable video maker.

  • 30 Mar 2023

So you want to be the next Steve Jobs. Or Martin Luther King. Or any other dazzling orator you look up to. But you need a little something to add to your presentation ideas – you don’t want to bore people to death with Powerpoint.

Whether you’re creating a sales presentation, an event presentation, or just showing your travel video to Uncle Ron, we’ve compiled some of the best ways to get your audience seriously hyped up about your message.

Biteable offers online video presentation software, so we know a thing or two about making engaging presentation videos. In this guide, we share some of our favorite video presentation inspiration and show you some of the different types of presentations you might consider.

When you’re ready to make your own video presentation, head over to  Biteable  for hundreds of brandable templates, video scenes, and workplace-ready animations. With Biteable, making a video presentation is as easy as making a PowerPoint – only a whole lot more fun.

Types of video presentations

If you’re looking to win over your audience with a presentation, videos are the best way to do it. According to Insivia, viewers retain  95% of a message  when they see it in a video, but only 10% if they have to read on-screen text.

When you’re making your presentation, you could either make your video the whole presentation, or just a part of the whole. Did you know, for example, that you can  embed a video in a Powerpoint document?  Either is possible with our video templates and it can be interesting to mix things up once in a while.

There are four main types of presentations:

  • Informative
  • Demonstrative
  • Inspirational

Picking the right one will ensure you’re onto a winner with your video presentation. For example, if you’re onboarding some new employees, you might choose a video template that’s an informative presentation like this one:

Or, if you want to show off how something works, a demonstration presentation might be what you want to create:

A persuasive presentation would involve creating a video more like this charity infographic example:

And if you want something a little more inspirational, try something like this positive quote video template.

But that’s not all, folks! If you’d like to check out more awesome Biteable video templates, visit our  templates page here .

Creative (and fun!) video presentation ideas

You’ve now picked the type of presentation you need. But how do you get creative with your video?

First of all, it’s important your video is top-notch. Without high-quality graphics and production value, your message may fall by the wayside. Choose online  video presentation software  that’s easy to use and makes great-looking videos. That’s where Biteable comes in.

Whatever the topic of your presentation, your video format and design need to match the overall tone and message.

Delivering a corporate presentation on climate change? A fast-paced, wildly colorful template with upbeat music is going to feel a little off-message.

To identify how to design your presentation, think about the feelings you want to evoke in your audience. Want them to be crying with laughter? Moved to tears? Motivated into taking action? Pinpointing the emotions behind your presentation will help you choose the right template and make the best video possible.

17 great video presentation ideas

Now you’ve nailed down the type of video presentation you want to make, it’s time to master the finer details. Here’s just some of the ways you can make your message sing.

1. Start with a bold statement

A bold statement can capture your audience’s attention right from the get-go. Your statement should offer something slightly unusual and maybe even a little controversial. Something to make people sit up and take notice.

2. Tell a story

One of the best ways to get your audience’s attention is to tell a story – it’ll hit them right in the feels.

A personal, human story works because it the audience can relate to it on a personal level. Think about some stand-out examples of human stories that relate to your business or idea, and tell that story so people will connect with the central character. The bigger the emotion the better: love, longing, overcoming obstacles, things we’ve all had to deal with at some point in our lives.

Think about the  ‘story arc’  – how will you frame your message so the audience immediately empathizes?

If you’re selling trainers, perhaps you’ll talk about someone who’s training for a marathon. If you’re lobbying for women’s rights, perhaps you’ll tell a story of when a passing comment affected you deeply. Maybe you should think back to the decision that started your business, and start your presentation with that.

Here’s a great example of storytelling from one of the world’s top brands:

3. Use music

Music has great power to support and enhance the emotion in a video presentation, and has been proven to sustain an audience’s attention and aid in information retention. Music is used in movies to suggest an emotional state to the viewer, so why not in a video presentation?

Modern, up-tempo music will snap people to attention at the right moment, while slow, minor-key sounds relax the brain, which is useful for reviewing content so it can slip more easily into long-term memory.

It can be a struggle to find good quality  royalty free music , but here at Biteable we have a selection of great royalty free tracks (or you can upload your own if you’re that way inclined).

Music is one of the most critical (and often overlooked) aspects of any presentation. Here’s a good example of a Biteable template where the music does a great job of supporting the message.

4. Visual metaphor

Research has shown that combining pictures and text is one of the best ways to help people engage with and retain information. There’s something about how our brain works that makes text by itself far less memorable, so if you can combine something visual with your message, you’ll keep people’s attention longer and they’ll remember more of your presentation.

Talking to a group of people about taking action on something that scares them? A picture of someone diving or bungee jumping could work. Telling your boss how important that company retreat is next year? Show them an image of happy, relaxed people with their toes in the sand.

It doesn’t have to be obvious and clichéd, either. Closed doors, wide open roads, and lighting a candle all have subconscious messages that you don’t really need to explain. (Whatever you do, just don’t use the ultimate cliche: the overused  ‘water ripple’ .)

5. Use questions

Questions can be a great way to open a presentation, because they encourage the audience to think for themselves. It opens them up to a realm of critical thinking, which is perfect when you’re gonna sock it to them with your impactful message.

‘Did you know 15 billion trees are cut down each year?’

‘Have you ever considered what life would be like if you didn’t have to save money?’

The art of asking questions in a presentation means you can incorporate them into your video as a great lead-in. Combined with some appropriate music, it can really get your audience thinking about the issue, and then you’ll go on to explain exactly what your solution is.

Having a laugh can really do a lot to win over an audience. There’s no need to be too serious, and even if you’re dealing with a heavy topic, lightening the mood can work wonders.

Whether you’re looking to create a funny sales video, an event presentation, or a presentation for an interview — one thing’s for sure, you can’t go wrong by including humor.

7. Repetition

Simple. Effective. Powerful.

Repetition can be used in several ways: by offering several one-word sentences in a row (the repetition is in the rhythm), or by repeating a word or a key phrase several time throughout your presentation.

In his famous Stanford speech in 2005, for example, Steve Jobs concluded by saying  “Stay hungry. Stay foolish.”

Repetition is powerful. It drives home your key message and strengthens your position.

8. Motion Graphics

Motion graphics  are basically animation with text as a major component, and is a staple of what we do at Biteable.

When you use moving graphics in a presentation, it instantly captures attention. If your audience is just taking their seats, or are halfway through hearing your story, there’s no doubt they’ll sit up and take notice if you introduce some cool motion graphics, like this Meeting Tips example.

Although they can sometimes feel clichéd, quotes are a great way to impart a message in a presentation. Want your audience to understand something complex? A quote from Einstein should do it. Or would you like to say something meaningful and poetic? A couple of lines of Shakespeare should convey some wisdom.

10. Audio narration

Narration can give a different mood to your presentation, especially if the voice is powerful and the words are heartfelt. Use it to change the tone or pace of your presentation and it will certainly keep your audience hooked if there’s a danger of them losing interest.

11. Go bright with color

Color can have a huge effect on how your video comes across. Don’t be afraid to experiment. The contrasts of black and white can be extremely effective, but you can also grab people’s attention with some carefully-chosen primary and secondary colors, like in our Motion Graphics template.

12. Use illustrations

Illustrations are a great way to communicate information, especially if you’ve got lots to say. Whether you want to create a crowd of people or a cool depiction of some new fancy gadget, illustrations can draw the eye and make your presentation more interesting.

13. Infographics

When you utilize infographics, you can pack in a huge amount of data and information without confusing your audience. Think pie charts, digital numbers, and ascending animated graphs. These can show your audience boring data in an exciting way.

14. Create interesting transitions

The one advantage of video over a standard presentation is that you can do all types of funky things with transitions, like a whip pan transition, when the camera quickly pans between scenes. It’s a bit like a wipe, but much faster. Check out our full article on transitions  here .

15. Make it look cinematic

Adding a cinematic touch can help your audience feel receptive to your message because subconsciously, they will associate these elements with being at the cinema, eating popcorn, and generally having a good time.

16. Go retro

A cool, retro look for your presentation will make it hard to ignore. By going retro, you add a little bit of cheeky style to your message. You don’t need to go  quite as retro as the template below, but taking a step back in time is a sure way to add a little bit of zing to things.

17. End on a meaningful note

Your presentation will only give your audience a lasting impression if you end it right.

It’s important to let the audience know what you want them to do next: to visit a website for more information, to ponder an idea or new direction, or to take action toward a particular goal.

An attention-grabbing visual will work really well here, along with a meaningful end to the music – a change of pace, volume, or pitch.

What’s the takeaway message? A strong CTA (call to action) will ensure your presentation is memorable and much more likely to be talked about.

Video brings your presentation alive

Of course, we’re a little biased here at Biteable, but we’ve also sat through enough mind-numbingly dull presentations to know that video offers a delightful treat for your audience. It brings your message to life in a way no other medium can.

Now that we’ve answered a few basic questions, let’s dig deeper into why videos are so powerful.

What Makes Video Presentations so Effective?

Why do they increase the impact of your message?

Well, it’s simple, really – people are visual creatures. This means we take in more information by watching than by reading. Remember the saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words”? Besides that, here are 4 other reasons video is so effective:

1. Conveys emotions better

No other communication channel conveys emotions better than video. That’s because video caters to the brain’s visual and auditory systems, helping the viewer pick up on cues like body language, facial expressions, imagery, and music.

2. Cements information better

According to research , people remember 10% of what they hear and 20% of what they read. However, they remember a staggering 80% of what they experienced. In short, visuals are easier to remember than text or audio because they help your audience “experience” your message. It makes video an essential part of creating presentations your audience will remember for a long time.

3. Makes it easier to digest information

Especially when explaining complicated concepts, video is a great way to present information in an easy-to-understand way. Not only is the format easy to take in, but it also makes breaking down concepts easier.

4. Builds relationships fast

I’m sure you know the marketing mantra: people buy from people they know, like, and trust. Nothing beats video in making prospects or your audience know, like, and trust you…   fast. Video is an instant relationship builder. It’s the next best thing to live face-to-face communication.

A video is a great tool that has made it easier to communicate thoughts and ideas with people – not just in a room, but even across the globe.

Video presentations are great for conducting employee training and onboarding. One of the main reasons for this is that video helps reduce the resources spent on these 2 important aspects of employee relationship management.

How to create killer Video Presentations – 4 Tips

Now you know why video presentations are important and which scenarios to use them in. Now to the fun part – tips on creating killer video presentations. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Tip #1 - Know your Audience

how to create a killer video presentations - know your audience

The most important aspect of creating a stellar presentation is to know and understand your audience. Even if you use the best video presentation maker , if you don’t target a specific, clearly defined audience, your presentation will flop. Understanding your audience will help you:

A. Communicate effectively

Effective communication involves knowing the language and examples that resonate with your audience.

B. Choose the right visuals

Certain visuals are more impactful when used on a particular audience. Study those that your audience will easily understand and relate to.

C. Connect on an emotional level

No matter the type of presentation, it’s crucial to connect with your audience on an emotional level. And to do that, you need to understand the emotional triggers to push in your video presentation.

Invest in adequate audience research. While it may be time-consuming (and a bit costly), it will pay off in the end.

Idea #2 - Brainstorm video content ideas

Create Killer Video Presentations - Brainstorm Video Content Ideas

Now that you have gathered enough audience data, it’s time to brainstorm some content ideas. Whether you’re creating your talk solo or as a team, 3 crucial questions will lay the foundation of your brainstorming session:

1. What do you want the video to achieve? 2. Which emotions do you want the video to evoke? 3. What will visual elements help your video achieve its goal?

The answers to these questions will help guide your ideas. They are key to creating a killer video that your audience will love.

Tip #3 - Craft engaging scripts

Craft Engaging Scripts

Audience research? Check.

Great idea? Check.

Now we get to another interesting stage of creating great video presentations  – crafting an engaging script. Whether it’s a live presentation, a webinar, or even a product review, you’ll need a great script to ensure you keep your audience engaged.

Even if you love creating impromptu videos, having a script for your video presentations is important. And no, you need not be Quentin Tarantino to produce a great video script (although it won’t hurt to learn how to become a good copywriter). Here are 3 reasons a good video script is a must:

1) Helps structure your video

To ensure your video has a smooth and progressive flow, you’ll need a good script.

2) Eliminates “dead spots”

Dead spots, or moments of inactivity, are a great turn-off in a video. They reek of unprofessionalism and can lead to your audience disengaging. The best way to eliminate dead spots is to craft a solid video script .

3) Keeps you on track

It’s very easy to get sidetracked when creating a video . However, with a script, you minimize the instances of going off-topic.

Creating scripts for your videos is a best practice that shouldn’t be overlooked. If anything, invest more in your script than the visuals as a good script can save a video with poor visuals.

Pro-tip: Once you’re confident about your script, it is time to make things even more clear. A  storyboard will allow you to break down your video visually, scene by scene, describing what is happening in it.

Tip #4 - Invest in the Right Tools

video presentations right tools - InVideo

With video, one thing you should never skimp on is the tools you use, particularly your video editing software. While there is a gazillion free video editing software on the market, it’s highly recommended that you use a professional video editor . And that means going the paid route.

Why should you spend on a video editor when there are countless free options available? Here’s why:

A. Get more (professional) features

Creating professional-looking videos requires a lot of resources and features. Most free video editors lack the features that will enable you to create professional videos.

B. Avoid branding and ads

With video editing software, free is never free. That’s because you pay through being forced to include the video editors brand in your work. In other words, you pay by advertising for them. Besides branding, some free video editors may subject you to irritating in-app ads.

If there’s one thing that’s inevitable when it comes to software, it’s that one time or another you’ll encounter glitches. This is where paid video editors have a great advantage over their free counterparts – you’ll have access to customer support.

From hardware (like cameras) to software (like video editing software), the tools you use will determine the quality of your videos. Invest in professional tools, and your presentations will sweep your audience off their feet because they’ll be more polished.

Pro tip: If you don't have the time or bandwidth to find your way around an editing tool, simply sign up to InVideo for business and get presentations created using tailor-made templates and on-demand editing services. Sign up for a free demo here .

Tip #5 - Adopt Video Presentation Best Practices

There’s no need to reinvent the wheel when creating presentations . Most winning video presentations are based on common fundamental principles that work. Here are some you need to know:

1) Create impactful intros (and outros)

Your intro is the most important part of your presentation as it sets the tone for the rest of the talk. If you can’t engage your audience with your intro, you probably won’t get another chance to engage them.

2) Keep it short, sharp, and sweet

No matter how engaging your video is, always remember it’s not a movie. The point is to keep your audience engaged enough to pass on your information, no more no less.

3) Be professional

Don’t throw out your professional etiquette just because you’re on (or using) video. Maintain professionalism in your video presentations by, for example, using clean language and maintaining a good posture.

4) Use quality sound

Sound plays an integral part in presentations. Whether it’s music or speech, make sure it’s crisp, clear, and audible.

By following these (and other) video presentation best practices, success is inevitable. Remember, the presentation is not about you; it’s about your audience. So, ensure that your presentations provide a good user experience for your audience.

video presentation templates in InVideo

Templates are lifesavers. They help you create a decent presentation in a snap, even if you are a newbie.

Here are 3 simple questions to help you determine if a template is good:

1) Is it editable? – Are you able to change things like playback speed, effects, or text, so you produce something you like? Stay away from rigid templates that don’t give you the freedom to create with ease.

2) Is it customizable? – Can you design brand-specific clips using your company’s colors, fonts, and styling? Good templates give you wiggle room to include your brand’s specific needs.

3) Is it campaign-specific? – Different videos fit different scenarios. Ideally, you want templates tailored to your current campaign.  That way, you have less tweaking to do because the templates are close to what you want.

5 Awesome Video Presentation ideas to bring The House Down

Presentation is both an art and science. Get the balance right, and you have the audience eating out of the palm of your hand. Here are some ideas to help you do just that.

Idea #1 - Tickle them with humor

Humor is a powerful learning tool.

According to studies by Physiology Org humor leads to learning because of it:

- Attracts and sustains attention. - Relieves tension and produces a relaxed atmosphere. - Enhances participation. - Increases retention and motivation. - Bonds the student and the teacher.

However, to reap all these benefits, the humor must be appropriate and on-topic. So spice up your presentation with a joke or two. The result? Your audience will laugh and learn.

Idea #2 - Use Relevant Examples

Effective presenters use timely, powerful illustrations.

The word illustration comes from the Latin term ‘illustration,’ which means illumination. So practical examples are like windows of your presentation. They let light in. They help people see or understand the material better.

Here are 5 questions to ask about your illustrations:

1. Are they relevant to the topic? 2. Are they suited to the audience? 3. Are they suited to the time limit? 4. Are they enlightening? 5. Are they well told?

Grab compelling examples from books, movies, TV shows, history, children, current events, and captivating real-life incidents. Use good illustrations ram your points home.

Idea #3 - Wield Questions like a Ninja

Questions are an integral part of learning.

Sharp questions aid learning. Plus, they keep listeners highly engaged.

Ask questions:

- At the beginning of your presentation to draw your audience in. - In the middle of the presentation to revive waning audience interest. - At the end of the talk, so the audience reflects on the material.

Also, allow the audience to ask questions. When your audience asks questions, they switch from passive spectators to active participants.

Idea #4 - Be Minimal

Have you ever sat through a presentation and felt:

- Dazed? - Confused? - Strained?

More than likely, the reason is the presenter drowned you in a blaze of inessential stuff. There was too much going on you couldn’t cope with.

Minimalism is removing all unnecessary material, leaving only the bare minimum needed to put your points across. It means using just enough text, visuals, scenes, or slides to make the point and no more. A minimal presentation is clean and uncluttered.

Simple yet intriguing. Plain but profound. Basic but punchy.

Most importantly, it makes learning easy and enjoyable.

Idea #5 - Connect emotionally with a story

Stories are speakers’ most powerful weapons. That’s because stories play a dual purpose –

- Engage intellectually - Connect Emotionally

And an emotional connection is key to bringing the house down with your presentation. Why?

An emotional connection:

- Endears you to your audience - Makes your presentation memorable - Inspires your audience to take action

By using a relevant story in your video presentation, you’ll ensure that your audience walks the entire journey with you from intro to outro.

6 PowerPoint Presentation tips to wow your audience

powerpoint presentation tips

No business video guide is complete without PowerPoint, the staple software for business presentations.

Here are 6 golden rules to help you nail your next PowerPoint presentation and leave your audience crying for more:

1. Keep Things Simple

Legendary artist Leonardo da Vinci once said something profound:

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication".

With the plethora of apps and templates at your disposal, you will be tempted to complicate things. Don’t. Keep things simple.

Simple design. Simple colors. Simple story.

People get swamped and confused by complicated stuff but easily absorb and appreciate straightforward material.

2. Good visual contrast

What use is your blockbuster presentation if the audience can’t see it?

You want people to enjoy your presentation, not endure it. If you use dark fonts on dark backgrounds or light fonts on light backgrounds, you’ll strain your audience’s eyes. They’ll struggle to see your lovely slides.

Classic black-on-white color contrast does just fine. You can use colors like red, blue, or yellow for headings and images. If you don’t like black and white, you can use other colors you prefer as long as the contrast of your combination is bold and strong.

3. Use a few words and animations

It’s easy to go overboard with fancy animations and a gushing stream of words. Only use as many words as it takes to get your point across and no more.

Too many words cause the audience to read rather than listen. Remember, your slides are there to compliment your talk, not substitute it. Also, a lot of words will fill up many slides that wear your audience down.

Ruthlessly cut out senseless animations that don’t add value to your talk.

4. Use excellent images

Images are to a presentation, what water is to fish. Without them, your presentation becomes bland. It lacks the needed fizz to keep your audience hooked. But only include relevant images.

Not only that. Above all, make sure all pictures are of high quality. Amateur-looking clip art causes the audience not to take you seriously.

Pro-tip: Get access to millions of stock assets and tailor-made templates with InVideo for business . Sign up for a free demo here .

5. Smooth and fast transitions

While PowerPoint transitions can make your presentation engaging, don’t overdo them, especially the advanced ones. Not only do they quickly drain power on weaker machines, but they also distract the audience. Stick to simpler and faster transitions like wipe or slide.

6. Avoid overloading your slides

In presentations, less is more.

Having a lot going on your screen confuses and overwhelms listeners.

Cramming too much info into your slides is a big no-no. Clutter is your enemy. Strip your slides down to essential words and images. Your audience will love you for it and leave you with many takeaways.

Pro looking Video Presentations – No longer an option

With Industry 4.0 fast coming into its own, going digital is no longer an option for businesses and speakers.

And one of the most important communication mediums in the digital age is video. That’s why you can’t afford to ignore video any more. Whether you’re speaking before a live audience or seeking to disseminate information to a global audience, video presentations are the way to go.

It is crucial that you take into consideration all these types and incorporate event videos in one way or another in your marketing strategy.

Let’s talk about each promo video type separately and look closer at examples of these that stand out.

1. Event Awareness Videos

You may not be ready to post a full promotional video for your event yet, and that’s understandable. If you plan on doing something different, it can be best to create a few awareness videos to educate your audience about the topic of your event before you start promoting it.

Virtual Recruitment Awareness Video

Why it Works: The above video only creates hype about virtual recruitment events and that’s it. The presenter is someone that belongs to the same industry and can offer the right insights giving strength to the claims in the video. This type of video can work well in the very early stages of inception where you are testing the waters and educating your audience. It will subconsciously prepare them and lay the groundwork for when you start promoting the actual recruitment event!

2. Event Video Promo

The most common and obvious type of event video is a promotional video. These are meant to be pre-event videos that will create hype around your event right through the earlier days of planning. Using a video as another piece of marketing collateral for your event can also increase audience attention and engagement with your event.

Video promo can be the single most versatile piece of collateral you have. You can post it on your website’s landing page, send it to your audience in an email, or share it through your social media accounts. The more people that watch the video, the more chances there are of them signing up for your event.

Now, let’s take a look at an example that you can use as an inspiration for yours.

vFairs Eventeer Awards Promo

vFairs hosts the Eventeer Awards annually to highlight the most creative and innovative events that customers have hosted with us. For the second Eventeer Awards in 2023, we created a promotional video that created excitement and set the tone.

Why it Works: The video covered so much in under a minute. The promo video had highlights from the past event and a testimonial from one of the winners from the previous awards as well. This not only made viewers more excited for what was to come but also convinced them to attend through social proof.

3. Event Training Videos

These can be great tools to help event attendees, exhibitors, or speakers easily navigate through and make the most of your event. While training videos may be ideal for virtual or hybrid events with an online platform, they can be a great value add for physical events too.

You can use them to guide physical attendees to the venue, tell them about important sessions at your event, or set them up with a walkthrough of the venue floor plan. For virtual attendees, training videos can include instructions for logging in to the event, navigation guidelines, and general know-how of what to expect when they’re in the virtual environment.

vFairs Platform Training Videos

vFairs created training videos for attendees, speakers, and exhibitors to help them navigate through the virtual event platform. Any event organizer that powers their events through the vFairs platform can use these videos as basic walkthrough training for event participants.

The exhibitor training video helps event planners train organization reps exhibiting at their events with ease. It is a detailed walkthrough for setting up and customizing their virtual booths, adding necessary resources, accessing the e-commerce and reporting features, and much more!

The attendee training video helps attendees visualize how the event may look like. They can see where each item of interest might be, how to attend sessions and book meetings, etc. It can be a great tool to empower your attendees so they can make the most of their event experience.

Speaker training videos can be a fantastic addition to virtual or hybrid conferences or summits with various scheduled webinars. Guest speakers use these videos to understand how their live sessions will look to the audience. Speakers also get the awareness of the types of streaming options the platform has through the video.

Why it works: Training videos are a great value add for any event. They can be used to train event attendees, speakers, exhibitors, and other participants at scale. You can create such videos to train all participants well before the event.

4. Post-Event Recap

Another great event video you can make is a post-event recap. It can be a great way to make sure your event stays memorable. Moreover, it is also a great excuse to reuse the content at your event. Recap videos are ideal for in-person, virtual, and hybrid events. They can jog the memory and set the tone for any upcoming events as well.

Post-event recap videos can be a collection of all the exciting things that happened at your event in the form of a highlight video, a keynote session recording, or a sizzle reel from one of the main sessions. The choice is yours!

Epic Events Webcast Sizzle Reel

Epic Events is a weekly webcast from vFairs where we invite event professionals and experts from the industry to share insights. The webcast is often promoted by sharing sizzle reels or teasers from past episodes. Here’s an example of one of the post-event teasers from the webcast:

Why it works : The video gets straight to the point and shares a key moment from the webcast. It intrigues the audience just enough for them to watch the entire episode. And even if they don’t they still get some value out of the sizzle reel itself!

Discover Next 2022 Full Recap

Discover Next is an annual thought leadership event hosted by vFairs. Event professionals come together to hear about the latest news and trends in the industry. This keynote session from vFairs CEO Muhammad Younas offered curated insights and an inside scoop into the future of events. The recap video is his entire keynote session for anyone who missed out on it in real time.

Why it works: These kinds of videos add value for people who may have missed the actual event. If they like what they see, they will make it a point to keep an eye out for upcoming events. Moreover, they also serve as an evergreen resource for attendees as they can refer to it later on.

9 Best Practices for Creating an Event Video that Stands Out

If you plan to place event videos at the center of your event marketing and promotional plans then they need to stand out. The challenge is to create videos that will add value to the viewer’s experience while keeping them fresh and engaging. Here are some best practices to get you started:

1. Define a Clear Objective

With so many different types of event videos, you need to have a clear understanding of what you want to achieve from each video you make. Decide whether you want to create awareness, recap past events, or promote your upcoming event. Then, based on your goals, you can choose what event video type will be most suitable for you.

2. Distribute Your Videos Widely

After you have a video created and ready to go, the next step is to distribute it across various mediums. Knowing where and when to post your event videos can be crucial in getting more engagement with your content. Some of the ways that you can use an event video are by posting it on your event landing page, creating an email campaign out of it, sharing it on social media , or within the actual event platform. However, it is ideal to use channels that are popular amongst your target audience to get your promos to the right people.

3. Know Your Audience

It is pertinent to deeply understand who your target audience is, where they’re coming from, and what they want to see in a video promo. If you don’t understand the key demographics or interests of your audience you will likely miss the mark on messaging. Research customer personas and their pain points and then address them in your promotional videos. Make sure you align your goals with that of your target audience and speak in a tone that resonates with them the most.

4. Create a List of Must-Have Shots

If you plan to shoot an event highlight video for an in-person event, you will need to plan ahead. It is always great to create a storyboard before the event starts and make a list of all important events happening throughout the day. Clear your schedule so you don’t miss filming any important event like a keynote session, opening or closing remarks, etc.

5. Add Captions and Subtitles

During the post-processing stages of your footage, it is important to optimize it for online viewing and a global reach. You need to add accessibility elements to each of your videos to make them more inclusive for all your audiences. This can mean anything from translations, closed captions, transcriptions, or subtitles.

6. Capture B-Roll

A B-roll is any extra footage that you will shoot during the event. This can include shots of audience members, speaker session candids, recordings of activities, or more. It doesn’t have to make sense at the time, but you will thank yourself later by recording everything that you can. The more footage you have, the more content you can later create from it. Moreover, it will be much easier for a video editor to create an impressive highlight reel from the extended footage.

7. Leverage the Power of AI

AI-powered event marketing tools like ChatGPT can reduce the time and effort it takes to create video scripts and storyboards. By reducing time-to-market for each video, you can create more promotional materials as well. If you are hosting on vFairs, you can benefit from our AI assistant to create promotional content within the event platform and push out more videos faster.

8. Use SEO Best Practices for Titles & Descriptions

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can play a key role in getting your videos more views when you post them on social media channels like YouTube. Keyword research through tools like SEMrush, Ahrefs, or Google Trends can help you get started. Using the right search terms in the script, video title, and description will help you rank higher, thus, giving you more organic traffic for your video. You can read our complete SEO guide to get more tips on ranking your videos.

9. Keep an Eye on Analytics

Posting a video doesn’t mean that it is the end of the road for you. You need to keep an eye on how it’s doing in the short and long term as well. If there is no engagement with the video, you may need to rethink your strategy and make some enhancements.

Key Takeaways

Video content is the most popular type of content posted online and your event marketing and planning strategy is incomplete without adding videos. Each type of event video can serve a completely different purpose for you during the planning or execution phases of your event. Your first video probably won’t be perfect but the increased engagement as a result of your efforts is worth it. In today’s digital age , video presentations have become an essential tool for businesses and individuals alike. Whether you’re delivering a sales pitch, presenting a project, or teaching a class, a well-designed video presentation can make all the difference in engaging your audience and delivering your message effectively. However, coming up with innovative and captivating video presentation ideas can be a challenge. That’s why we’ve compiled this list of 15 video presentation ideas to inspire and help you create a memorable video presentation.

What is a Video Presentation?

Information, ideas, or messages can be visually represented in a video presentation. It’s a great tool for communicating difficult concepts in a way that’s interesting and accessible to the audience. There are plenty of uses for video presentations.

  • Marketing and sales
  • Education and training
  • Corporate communication
  • Entertainment

7 Steps H ow to Create a Video Presentation

Creating a video presentation can seem like a daunting task, but it is easier than you think. Here are the steps you need to follow to create a successful video presentation:

1. Identify Your Target Audience

Who is your target audience? What are their interests, needs, and preferences? Understanding your audience will help you create a presentation that is relevant and engaging.

2. Define Your Message

What is the message you want to convey? What do you want your audience to learn or take away from your presentation? Defining your message will help you stay focused and ensure that your presentation is clear and concise.

3. Create an Outline

Once you have identified your audience and defined your message, it’s time to create an outline. Your outline should include the main points you want to cover in your presentation, as well as any supporting information or visuals you plan to use.

4. Write Your Script

With your outline in hand, it’s time to write your script. Your script should be conversational and easy to understand. It should also be engaging and persuasive, with a clear call to action. You can use ChatGPT for this to make it quicker but more effective.

5. Choose Your Visuals

Visuals are an essential part of any video presentation. They help to illustrate your message and keep your audience engaged. Choose visuals that are relevant to your message and that support your key points. Custom visuals are ideal but you can also look for stock footage and images.

6. Record Your Presentation

With your script and visuals in hand, it’s time to record your presentation. Make sure to rehearse your script and practice your delivery before recording.

7. Edit and Finalize

Once you have recorded your presentation, it’s time to edit and finalize it. This is where you can add any additional visuals or effects, adjust the timing and pacing, and make any final tweaks. You can get an idea of what is missing by using computer mockups to visualize your creation.

Benefits of Video Presentations

Video presentations offer several benefits over traditional presentations, including:

Increased Engagement

Unlike traditional presentations, video presentations incorporate visuals, audio, and text to deliver a message in a more dynamic and interactive way. By engaging multiple senses, video presentations are able to captivate and maintain the attention of viewers for longer periods of time, which can help to increase information retention.

Improved Retention

Visual aids like photos, graphs, and charts can help to illustrate crucial points and make them easier to learn and recall. Meanwhile, audio can serve to reinforce knowledge and provide additional context, both of which can help with information retention. With a multitude of sensory cues, video presentations can provide viewers with a more immersive and memorable experience.

Greater Reach

Because video presentations can be quickly shared and distributed online, they can reach a considerably bigger audience than traditional presentations. This is especially beneficial for firms trying to reach out to new clients or market their products or services to a larger audience. Businesses can access new audiences and expand their reach beyond their local area by making video presentations available online. Additionally, video presentations can be included in an online catalogue , making them easily accessible to a broader audience and allowing viewers to browse through a variety of presentations at their convenience, further enhancing the reach and impact of your message

Increased Conversions

Video presentations are more effective than traditional presentations at persuading viewers to take action. This is because videos may make an emotional connection with viewers and convey a message more effectively. Video presentations can drive viewers to take action and make a purchase , join up for a service, or take any other desired action by using storytelling techniques and establishing a sense of urgency. Moreover, you can leverage videos by converting them  into shoppable videos . With the effective use of Call-To-Actions (CTAs), you can thereby increase your chances of making your customers convert even more. A study shows that with the utilization of shoppable videos, you can increase your chances of conversion by  30% .

8 Common Mistakes to Avoid in Video Presentations

When creating a video presentation, there are a number of common mistakes that you should be aware of and take steps to avoid. Some of the most important mistakes to avoid include:

1. Using too much text on slides

When creating slides for your video presentation, avoid using too much text. This can overwhelm viewers and make it difficult for them to engage with your message. Instead, use images, graphics, and other visual elements to illustrate key points and break up the text.

2. Speaking too quickly or too slowly

Speaking too quickly can make it difficult for viewers to follow along while speaking too slowly can be boring. Practice your delivery ahead of time to find the right pace that allows your audience to easily understand your message.

3. Not practicing enough

Failing to practice your presentation ahead of time can lead to mistakes or stumbles during the actual recording. Take the time to practice your delivery and become familiar with your content, so you feel confident and prepared during the presentation.

4. Not considering the audience’s perspective

When creating your presentation, it’s important to consider your audience’s interests and knowledge level. This allows you to tailor your content to their needs and make it more engaging for them.

5. Using low-quality visuals or audio

Poor audio or video quality can distract from your message and make it difficult for viewers to engage with your presentation. Make sure your visuals and audio are of high quality to keep your audience’s attention.

6. Not ending the presentation on a strong note

A strong ending is key to leaving a lasting impression on your audience. You can end a video presentation on a strong note by summarizing key points, ending with a call to action, or leaving the audience with a memorable quote or visual.

7. Failing to tailor your presentation to your audience

To make your presentation more engaging, you should consider your audience’s interests, needs, and knowledge level. This allows you to create content that is relevant to them and keeps them engaged throughout.

8. Not having a clear structure or message

Your presentation should have a clear structure and message that is easy for viewers to follow and understand. Make sure your content is organized and flows logically, so your audience can easily follow your message.

By being aware of these common mistakes and taking steps to avoid them, you can create a more effective and engaging video presentation that effectively communicates your message and resonates with your audience.

Here’s How to Give the Best Video Presentation of Your Life

Your video presentation doesn’t need to bore your attendees to tears. Here are seven strategies to keep participants engaged and awake.

You’ve been asked to give a video presentation at a virtual conference. You’re excited about the opportunity to share your expertise, but you’re also worried about how you’ll manage to hold interest.

Let’s face it: It’s notoriously tough to keep people focused during virtual presentations.

In fact, 67% of workers say they find it easier to be distracted during virtual meetings compared to in-person ones. Even worse? 55% of respondents admit that they’ve checked their emails during those virtual sessions.

7 tips for video presentations that don’t make eyes glaze over

So, are you doomed to spend an hour talking to a bunch of people who’d rather be elsewhere? Will all of your time spent preparing be wasted as you watch attendees turn off their cameras and do who knows what as you ramble on?

Not quite. Rest assured, there are some tips you can put into play to deliver a compelling video presentation that keeps your virtual event participants on the hook.

1. Curate the right environment

If you want other people to be totally tuned into the topic you’re presenting, you need to start by creating a non-distracting environment – both for your benefit and your participants’.

There are a number of different ways to ensure you have the right setting for your virtual presentation, including:

Finding a quiet space where you’ll be free from interruptions (like barking dogs or kids who choose the most inopportune time to come in and ask for fruit snacks).

Cleaning up your background so that you’re the main focus. Taking a few minutes to tidy up is better than turning on a virtual background, as the majority of people prefer to see the actual room behind the speaker.

Ensuring you have appropriate lighting so that attendees can see your face without shadows and glares.

Think about it this way: Would you want to deliver an in-person presentation in a dimly-lit room with laundry baskets in the background? We didn’t think so.

While getting your space ready for a virtual or hybrid event will take a little more work than simply showing up to a well-prepped conference center, it’s well worth the effort to curate an environment that shows you’re ready to get down to business.

2. Check your technology

Can you see my screen? Hold on a second, I just need to click over to my slides. Is my audio echoing for anybody else?

Nothing derails your presentation faster than frustrating technology glitches. They’re annoying for both you and your participants, and unfortunately those delays can mean that you lose the attention and trust of your attendees before you even get to the content of your presentation.

Plus, they immediately slow you down and shake your confidence. They’re tough to bounce back from, especially when you feel frazzled and like you need to rush through certain aspects of your talk in order to make up for that lost time.

For that reason, it’s crucial that you triple-check all of your technology during your presentation rehearsals. And, it’s smart to use a video meeting platform that’s simple and intuitive. Whereby Embedded makes it easy to embed your video meeting directly within the website or app for your virtual conference, so everybody can navigate right to your session without annoying passcodes, waiting rooms, or technology hiccups.

3. Switch up your format

While there’s a lot of debate over what our actual attention span is (you’ll hear the range of five to 10 minutes cited a lot), there’s no denying that whatever it is, it’s short.

You could present a surefire method to win the lottery, and people are probably still going to start to zone out after a few minutes of you droning on and on. And we don’t blame them – it’s tough to stay focused, particularly in a virtual environment.

That’s why it’s so helpful to keep switching up the format of your presentation by mixing in various elements like:

Breakout sessions (more on these a little later)

Exercises and games

Questions and open discussions

Videos or demonstrations

This array of formats keeps your content fresh and your attendees on their toes. And it’s far preferable to spending an hour reading from your slides.

4. Leverage storytelling

Imagine that you’re attending a presentation about the importance of accurate record keeping.

Do you want to hear a bunch of statistics about why it matters? Or do you want to hear about the time a single spreadsheet error led to a synchronized swimming event being oversold by 10,000 tickets at the 2012 London Olympics?

The latter is far more compelling, isn’t it? And it speaks to the power of incorporating storytelling into your presentations. In fact, researchers have found that stories can cause oxytocin synthesis in our brains. That not only gets us more engaged, but also inspires us to take action.

So, look for places where you can incorporate anecdotes or real-world examples. Those will hit home with your attendees far more than endless facts and figures.

5. Remember that your visual aids should be visual

We’ve all sat through presentations where the presenter’s slides were filled with walls of text or bullet points of what they wanted to cover.

Of course, you can (and should) have your own notes to guide you through all of the important points of your presentation – but that doesn’t mean your audience needs to read along with you. Not only is it boring, but one study found that showing audiences the exact same words that were being spoken reduces audience comprehension.

Your visual aids should be, well, visual . Rather than filling your PowerPoint, Keynote, Prezi, or Google Slides with meaningless text, keep your slide deck interesting with:

Bite-sized statistics or facts

Graphs and charts

Relevant images

Even the occasional funny GIF or meme can keep your audience more engaged with your presentation (not to mention lighten the mood and inspire a little chuckle).

6. Use breakout sessions to boost engagement

If you have a particularly large group of attendees or a longer time slot for your virtual presentation, you’ll likely notice more participation and engagement if you break people into small groups – at least for a portion of your session.

There are a number of reasons for that, but much of it is owed to the fact that tighter groups reduce the potential for social loafing – a psychological concept that states that people put in less effort when they’re in groups than they do when they’re on their own, because they assume that other group members will help shoulder the burden.

Whereby makes it easy to start breakout sessions and groups , so you can give people the chance to connect more personally without interrupting the flow of your presentation.

7. Invite active participation

Breakout groups certainly help people feel like they’re part of the discussion – rather than being preached to for an hour or so. But, there are a few other things you can do to fuel the feeling that virtual attendees are active participants:

Encourage emoji reactions: Even if your attendees don’t have their own cameras on, emoji reactions give them the opportunity to share how they feel. Believe it or not, the same part of our brain that processes facial expressions also processes emojis. Whereby has live emoji reactions, by the way.

Periodically stop for questions: While you don’t want tangents to throw your presentation off track, skipping any questions until the end of your talk can make attendees feel unheard and disconnected. Plus, stopping regularly to give people a chance to ask questions as they come up almost always leads to more productive, engaging, and insightful conversations.

Involve attendees in examples and demonstrations: This is tougher to do during a virtual event than an in-person one, but find ways to involve your audience members whenever you can. Have them act out an example scenario or ask them to share something with the group. The more you can work them into your presentation, the more alert they’ll be.

Is everybody still awake out there?

When one in three people admit they’ve felt drowsy or even dozed off during a work meeting, the last thing you want is for the presentation you worked so hard on to quite literally lull people to sleep.

While virtual conferences have their benefits, it can admittedly feel more challenging to keep the energy up.

Fortunately, you can do more than accept the fact that some people will catch a much-needed snooze during your session. Use these strategies, and you’ll create a video presentation that keeps your participants engaged (and, you know, awake).

Learn how to make a show-stopping video presentation to engage your audience, using Dropbox Capture to record your screen, voice, and camera simultaneously.

Whether you’re a teacher, student, business professional, or even a YouTube content creator—for many of us, delivering presentations quickly becomes a standard part of everyday life.

But what happens if you can’t be there to deliver your presentation in person, need a key point to land perfectly, or you need your audience to watch it asynchronously in their own time? Have no fear, video presentations can be a great solution to all these challenges.

In this guide, we’ll cover everything there is to know about creating your own high quality video presentations, so your audience can benefit from your content whenever they need it.

What makes a good presentation video?

What tools do you need to make a video presentation, how to make a video presentation.

  • Making a video presentation in PowerPoint
  • Making a video presentation in Keynote

Starting from the top: What is a video presentation?

A video presentation is a method of communication through which information is delivered partially or entirely through video. In other words, it’s the process of using video to deliver a message or presentation.

Common formats for video presentations might include pre-recorded slide presentations, instructional videos, sales material, inspirational talks, entertainment, or anything you can think of.

While the reaction to a video presentation will be subjective, there are a few general qualities that can be beneficial to keep in mind:

  • Make your video valuable —have a clear intended outcome for the viewer and be sure to reach it
  • Make sure your audio and video are clear —you want your audience to focus on your message, not your video quality
  • Bring your key points to life —use stories, questions, and examples to illustrate key concepts and engage viewers
  • Establish expectations —use your introduction to set clear expectations, either with an agenda or teasing where the session is heading
  • Don’t rely on slides —if the slides added all the value, you could just send your audience a PDF. Ask yourself: what are you adding to the content by presenting it?
  • Keep an eye on time —don’t make your video presentation longer than it needs to be.
  • Mix it up —break the monotony and change pace at appropriate intervals
  • Don’t start over for the sake of perfection —if you make a mistake during recording, you can always edit it out later

Before you can start creating your own video presentations, you’ll first need a few basic tools.

Hardware for a video presentation

Let’s start with the basics, your tech. In most cases, you’ll have everything you need if you have a standard laptop or desktop computer.

Here’s what you’ll need to start making video presentations:

  • A laptop or PC —you’ll need something to make the presentation recording on
  • A microphone —to record your voice-over, either built-in or USB
  • A camera —if you want to include video of yourself, either as a built-in webcam or a USB camera

Video recording software

With your tech set up, you’ll need software to record your presentation. Depending on your needs, this might be something to record your screen, record your voice, or record yourself with your camera.

With Dropbox Capture , you can do all three at the same time .

Dropbox Capture is video and screen recording technology, designed to make it easy to quickly capture whatever you need. All without needing advanced editing skills or specialist equipment.

With Capture, it’s easy to:

  • Record your screen, webcam, and microphone simultaneously
  • Create GIFs
  • Draw on or annotate recordings
  • Automatically generate closed captions
  • Share in just a few clicks

While presentation applications like PowerPoint and Keynote have some built-in screen and presentation recording capabilities, they only allow you to record the presentation.

Whereas with Dropbox Capture, you’re free to jump between windows and applications throughout your presentation recording—giving you greater freedom on what you present.

File storage and sharing tools

Ultimately, you’re going to want to make your video presentation available for viewers somewhere.

With Dropbox cloud storage , this is as easy as copying a link , with full control over access and permissions for your files.

We’ll now cover all the steps to create an impactful video presentation, starting from the very beginning—your plan.

1. Plan your topic, examples, and intended audience

You likely already have an idea of what you’ll want to cover in your video presentation, but it can help to formally get this down on paper:

  • Presentation aim —what do you want your audience to understand by the end of the video?
  • Approach —broadly, what will you cover to help them understand this concept?
  • Resources —what examples will you be able to share to illustrate the key concepts?

To help with the planning process, Dropbox Paper has a number of pre-built templates to get your creative juices flowing, like the brainstorming template .

2. Create your presentation slides and your video presentation storyboard

If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to create your slides.

While doing this, you should also think about the overall storyboard of your video presentation—what are the key beats, how will you present them, and what slides do you need?

A storyboard is a visual tool, used by video producers to map out the narrative flow of a video and the visuals that will accompany it. In many cases, your presentation will almost act as a storyboard, but it might help to get this down on paper first.

You can learn more about the storyboarding process in our in-depth guide to storyboards .

3. Record your video presentation

With your storyboard and presentation ready, it’s time to go about creating your recording.

You can record your screen first, then later record a voice-over or video narration and edit the two together. Or with Dropbox Capture , you can record your screen, webcam, and microphone simultaneously. Using Dropbox Capture makes it easy to create your pre-recorded video lesson in one take. Perfect, if you don’t have access to advanced video editing software.

To record with Dropbox Capture , it’s a simple as the following steps:

  • Open Dropbox Capture
  • Click Screen recording & camera
  • Choose which part of your screen you’d like to capture
  • Click the Record icon to start recording, click it again to stop recording
  • Click the Pause icon in the side panel while recording to pause or resume recording
  • Click the Draw icon in the side panel while recording to draw on your recording

4. Edit your video presentation

If you’re already happy with your recording, there is no further editing required.

In any other cases, you can use video editing software to apply finishing touches to your video as you see fit. These edits might include:

  • Editing your screen recording and voice-over together (if you have separate files)—with Dropbox Capture you can record your microphone and camera simultaneously, without the need to use editing software
  • Cut and delete unwanted sections of video—like an awkward pause or a dog barking, with Dropbox Capture you can do this directly within the app, no editing software required!
  • Remove awkward filler words—clean up those pesky “ums” and “ahs”, with Dropbox Capture you can do this automatically, directly in the app
  • Adding text overlays to emphasize key points of video sections
  • Additional flair and visual elements
  • Adding background music to create an atmosphere

5. Share your video presentation

With your video presentation finished, you’ll need a way for your viewers to access it.

If you're using Dropbox Capture, sharing your presentation couldn’t be easier, simply click the Share button and the sharing link will automatically copy to your clipboard.

If you’re not using Capture, Dropbox cloud storage makes it easy to share your video files with anyone and see who’s viewed your video presentation. All you need to do is copy a link to the file.

If you want to send a copy of the full video, complete with its cumbersome file size, Dropbox Transfer makes it easy to send large files securely.

How to record a video presentation in PowerPoint

It’s worth keeping in mind that, when recording directly within PowerPoint, you can only record your slides and your editing options will be limited. The best way to give yourself complete control over what you record—and how you edit it afterwards—is with a purpose-built screen recording app like Dropbox Capture .

If you’d still prefer to record directly in PowerPoint, you can do this by following these steps:

  • Open PowerPoint and open your presentation file
  • Navigate to the slide you’d like to start recording from
  • Select Record in the top-right corner of the PowerPoint window
  • Click the red Record button, wait for the countdown, then start your presentation

With your presentation recorded, you can then save it to your Dropbox cloud storage , making it easy to share your video files with anyone and see who’s viewed your video presentation.

How to record a video presentation in Keynote

If you’re a Mac user and would prefer to record directly in Keynote, here’s how to do it:

  • Open Keynote and open your presentation file
  • Select Record Slideshow from the Play menu at the top of the screen

With your Keynote presentation recorded, you can then save it to your Dropbox cloud storage and share it simply by copying the link.

Again, your control over what you record and how the final edit turns out will be limited when recording directly within the Keynote app. To give yourself complete control over how your video presentation turns out, a purpose-built screen recording app like Dropbox Capture will be more suitable.

Elevate your video presentations with Dropbox Capture

It’s never been so simple to create an engaging and memorable video presentation, with Dropbox.

With Dropbox Capture , it’s never been easier to get your message across with video recordings of your presentations. So you can clearly say what you mean and nail the delivery, every single time.

Capture your audience’s attention.

9 Video Presentation Ideas to Keep Your Audience Awake

9 Video Presentation Ideas to Keep Your Audience Awake

Let’s be honest: we’re all bored to death of dull, static PowerPoint presentations.

In fact, most people switch off just 10 minutes into a traditional presentation . Despite this, Microsoft PowerPoint is still the first port of call for 89% of people when they need to make a slideshow.

Next time you need to put together a presentation for your team, consider doing things differently. Video presentations are dynamic, engaging, and better at keeping your audience’s attention than a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation .

Create a stunning video in minutes

Why should you use video presentations?

The numbers are clear: people like video . In fact, 78% of people report watching online video content every week, with 55% watching videos every day — so it’s a format we’re all used to. And according to Social Media Week, viewers retain 95% of a message when they learn it through a video, which makes it a great tool for business presentations.

Here are four more benefits of using video presentations over traditional ones .

They’re easy to digest

The length of a traditional professional presentation depends on the presenter’s delivery and how long it takes an audience to read your PowerPoint slides. But since you’ll always know exactly how long a video presentation is, you can easily slot them into meetings without fear of running over. And your audience is much less likely to switch off if they’re told how long the video is before it starts .

Video lends itself very well to short-form content — and video presentations are no different. A short video can easily be sent out in an email to deliver a quick message. Learn more on video email marketing in this blog post.

💡 What about industry-specific content?

You're right, industry-specific content is often complex for outsiders or too boring for insiders. Why not capture your audience with video? Just make sure that your content is relevant to your target group by educating, informing or entertaining them! You're working in healthcare industry? Perfect, find everything related to healthcare video marketing in this blog article.

They’re dynamic

A video presentation can (and should) include music, images, GIFs and dynamic transitions which help keep your audience engaged far more than a static PowerPoint. These visuals and moving graphics reinforce your message and drive home your audience’s understanding .

They’re persuasive

Visual information is processed faster than text . So it makes sense to reinforce your message with visual cues such as arrows, icons, and fonts of different colors and sizes. With a video presentation, you can also use music to complement your message and help persuade your audience to take action.

They’re accessible (any time and anywhere)

In this new world, we’re all getting used to WFH and WFA (work-from-anywhere) policies. So it’s more important than ever to find new ways to transmit information to your staff, customers, and stakeholders . A video presentation is easier to share online than a traditional one, and can be watched multiple times — so there’s no need to worry if your team doesn't pick up everything the first time around. Discover how to make a presentation with our best steps and tips in this article.

9 video presentation ideas to keep your audience from snoozing

Video presentations are versatile and can be used for a whole variety of purposes. While a PowerPoint presentation risks putting your audience to sleep before you get through the first three slides, a stand-out video will wake them up and drive your message home.

And, as an added bonus, if public speaking’s not your strong point, no worries. You can just hit the play button and let the video do the hard work.

Here are 9 video presentation ideas you could try for your business .

#1. Product launches

If you have a new product to show off to your customers, don’t put them off before they’ve even seen it with a slide deck that puts them to sleep.

Instead, bring your product to life and impress your viewers with an engaging video presentation that showcases its features and benefits and drums up the excitement it deserves. Discover all the tips on how to make engaging videos .

Take a look at this example from financial services company Acorns, announcing their new debit card. They do a great job of using interesting graphics to keep viewers engaged, and on-screen text to complement the audio narration and reinforce the message.

#2. Sales presentations

Sales teams want to get your prospective clients excited about your products. But let’s be honest: your run-of-the-mill business presentation full of dry data doesn’t make that easy. Even for the most rehearsed and confident presenters.

With a video presentation, however, you can incorporate infographics, music, and even humor — all while transmitting that all-important message . Since video presentations are easy to send online (or host on a dedicated landing page), you can even use them as part of your sales outreach efforts.

Account-based marketing with Terminus (in 3 minutes!) This really original sales presentation by SaaS marketing tool Terminus uses a combination of visual aids, animations, graphics, and plenty of humor to highlight their product’s features and real-life benefits for their target customer — in a way they’ll likely remember.

#3. Onboarding for new recruits

Onboarding presentations are an important tool for familiarizing new hires with the people and processes that make up your company . However, first days can be overwhelming and your new recruits may not necessarily retain everything the first time. You can make things easier on them by sending a link to an online presentation that they can easily refer back to when needed.

Welcome to the Future - Discover STATION F's New Onboarding Video

Video onboarding presentations also allow you to inject a little humor and give new recruits a taste of your company’s personality — like in this excellent example from Station F .

#4. Q&A sessions

Another great video presentation idea is to record Q&A sessions and edit them into a quick presentation . By displaying the questions as text, interspersed with short recorded answers, you can create a compelling video that’s naturally divided into digestible chunks.

Student Officer Q&A Highlights - Queen's Campus - Durham Student's Union In this video presentation by the Students’ Union at Durham University, the questions make for natural breaks in the video, and the addition of music helps to tie things together for the viewer.

#5. Explainers or tutorials

Honestly, how many times have you sat through a presentation on how to use a new tool or piece of software , and remembered practically none of it once you got back to your desk? With an explainer video presentation, you don’t need to worry, as you and your team will be able to look back over it as many times as you need to.

Trello | Take A Tour Of Trello Trello uses video storytelling to demonstrate how their tool could be used by a real business. Not only is this technique far more engaging than simply walking through the features, demonstrating it with a real use case gives viewers a much better idea of how they could apply it to their own workflow.

#6. Internal announcements

You can use video presentations to keep employees up-to-date on new hires, projects, acquisitions, or anything else they need to know about. Their format means they’re easy to distribute company-wide even in large organisations, without needing to gather everyone together.

NEAT Method Acquisition Announcement!

This presentation announcing NEAT’s acquisition by Whitmore could work as an internal or external announcement, and the combination of useful information and humor makes for a compelling video that keeps people engaged.

#7. Project highlights or upcoming projects

If you need to share the progress of a project with internal or external stakeholders , a video presentation is one of the most engaging ways to do it. You can share key statistics, facts and information without being too dry. Video presentations are also a great way to communicate visually about upcoming projects.

Coca-Cola Content 2020 Initiative Strategy Video - Parts I & II

For example, take a look at the internal video marketing strategy of Coca-Cola. The cute, animated presentation design and the use of text to reinforce the voice-over narration work to keep the audience focused and engaged.

#8. Quarterly or annual business results

Just the words “quarterly business review” are enough to make all but the most seasoned business analysts start yawning. And long, number-heavy presentations are an easy way to guarantee a sleepy crowd during a keynote. With video, you can create a dynamic presentation that highlights those key statistics, interviews and quotes through animation, images and videos to keep your audience engaged (and awake).

Shell's first quarter 2021 results presentation | Investor Relations In this video, Shell shares their first quarter 2021 results with a combination of live narration, visual displays of data such as diagrams and charts, and brand-consistent graphics.

#9. Event promotions

Got an upcoming event and want to get the word out ? An event video presentation is easy to send out online, and lets you share key details about the event in a digestible format.

The World's Largest Online Advertising Event | Ad World 2020

This promotional video for Ad World’s 2020 conference uses music and fast, eye-catching graphics to grab its audience’s attention, and presents key details about the event in a way that drums up anticipation. Video Presentations: A Guide for Engaging Content

In a time when the Millennials’ attention span can be measured as little as 12 seconds, how can we create genuinely engaging presentations? Is continuously changing slides the answer these days?

A skilled presenter has to master different techniques; therefore, we will examine the potential for video presentations. Join us to discover what video presentations are, the reasons why you should use them amongst your presentation tools, and exciting tips on how to drive engagement from them.

What video presentations are

Video presentation stats to consider, different types of video presentations, why should you use video presentations, what are the components of a winning video presentation, the role of accessibility: advanced research on video presentations, 5 tips on how to make your video presentations engaging.

  • How to create a video presentation

Do you need special software to create video presentations?

Closing thoughts.

Presentations are a crucial part of business and academic environments. Thousands of presentations are delivered each day in different environments; still, many are doomed to fail. Although we can blame this on a lack of proper presentation skills , reality tells us there’s a change in how people prefer to see the content.

As a general rule, consider 10 minutes the Goldilocks Zone for traditional presentations in what comes to audience engagement . Inspirational presentations like the ones we see on TEDx don’t follow this rule, as the objective here is to share a compelling story as detailed as possible so the audience can relate. In some cases, academic presentations of the thesis defense style remain loyal to a specific format. Still, trends are also changing, and video presentations have much to offer in terms of exposing complex concepts more plainly.

A video presentation can be represented in multiple formats: as a compendium of animated slides in video format, video files and audio sources packed on a single video file, a video recording made in interview format, a video documentary, etc. Although this definition may sound redundant, the concept behind a video presentation is that they don’t require a presenter to change between slides or windows to browse different assets . Hence, the importance to create a story behind the video presentation, so the various elements don’t feel segregated without logic.

We can say people use the video format to convey information in courses, job training, edutainment, conferences, and any kind of message-sharing purpose that requires connecting with the audience for engagement.

Before dwelling on the specifics of building a video presentation, here we share some video presentation stats that speak about the importance of video presentations these days from a marketing perspective.

  • Online search continues to be the most common way (45%) for users to find instructional and informational video content. ( source )
  • The most commonly-created types of videos are explainer videos (72%) , presentation videos (49%), testimonial videos (48%), sales videos (42%), and video ads (42%). ( source )
  • 57% of consumers said that product videos make them more confident in a purchase and less likely to return an item ( source )
  • Millennials’ attention span can be measured as little as 12 seconds ( source )
  • A minute of video is worth 1.8 million words in terms of information retention ( source )

As you can see, the effort of building a video presentation is well-paid in terms of consumption and content information retention from the audience.

Depending on the requirements of the presentation itself, we can classify video presentations as follows:

In-Company Video Presentations

These video presentations belong to the business and corporate world, but their purpose is to distribute information among coworkers or to coach the personnel for a specific requirement. In-company video presentations are used in workspace training, as part of internal recruitment processes, or other kinds of internal presentations.

In-company video presentations usually carry the company branding; they have restricted access for people outside the organization, so their distribution methods happen in meeting rooms dedicated to these purposes.

Business Video Presentations

Business video presentations are used for a variety of business purposes: business pitches, workspace training, advertisement, product releases, recruitment, and more. Business video presentations also include the ones dedicated to  B2B or B2C relationships.

Like In-Company Video Presentations, they carry branding to identify the video presentation’s author quickly. They are shared through official mediums for the company (like a brand’s social media channels and website), during corporate meetings with investors or potential business partners, and through 3rd. party channels.

Example of Product Launch Video Presentation by Xiaomi

Examples of these kinds of videos are product launch sessions, much like what tech giants like Xiaomi do.

Another kind of business video presentation is the explainer video. Explainer videos can be defined as short online marketing videos that are used to explain the company’s product or service. Explainer videos are commonly used for sales, marketing, and training purposes. Here is a real example of a 1-minute video presentation introducing SlideModel.com.

Another application of business video presentations is when sponsorship deals are involved, as brands can present their value to influencers through short reels.

Resume Video Presentations

This is a relatively recent but incredible turn of resume presentations. In resume video presentations , the candidate offers a detailed introduction of their capabilities, skills, interests, and potential value to the employer in a visually engaging format.

Unlike traditional CV presentations, the video format gives little room for anxiety, answering most of the interviewer’s questions or even driving admiration for the effort and dedication to this job-hunting adventure.

We recommend the usage of resume presentation templates for this purpose, as they save tons of time in crafting a high-quality resume video presentation.

Educational Video Presentations

This category can be divided into three different sub-categories:

Academic Video Presentations

Intended for University-level presentations or post-Doctorate work, these presentations follow strict format guidelines. They are mainly designed to distribute data comprehensively, with proper documentation backup. Animations usually don’t take part in these video presentations.

Despite being commonly associated with business events, conferences also belong to the academic video presentations category, as the live sessions are recorded to spread the message about important research discoveries.

Teaching & Training Video Presentations

Teachers introduce the presentations to their students on various topics to understand abstract issues better. Chemistry, Physics, and Geography are typical examples of subjects that use video presentations. However, subjects like History and Philosophy can save countless hours of whiteboard sessions by using educational video presentations.

Webinars fall under this category, either being released to the public or in-company webinars, as they share common aspects in their structure. Do keep in mind that educational content recorded as video presentations is not the same as a webinar, as the latter requires the presence of a live audience, a moderator, and usually a Q&A session at the end of it. If we talk about educational content being recorded and released as a course platform, then we can say it is a workshop.

According to recent studies, visualizations through video presentations and video-based learning can enhance understanding. It is demonstrated that students who watched learning videos on Statistics, influenced engagement and motivation positively .

Student Video Presentations

Finally, students also make video presentations as requested by their teachers to present a lesson or project exhibition. These presentations vary as the students grow older, becoming less dependent on animated effects, setting the bases for future work or academic presentation formats.

Informal Video Presentations

If you remember seeing videos in situations like 50th birthday parties, baptisms, wedding anniversaries, etc., then you have already experienced informal video presentations.

These informal presentations are free from any format restriction. As the term implies, they are used for any kind of meetup, making it simpler to share a story rather than to tell a lengthy story.

Inspirational & Motivational Video Presentations

The final category belongs to the video presentations with a strong emotional component. They are built to connect, to empathize with the audience in specific situations or problems. Examples of this are TEDx , Evan Carmichael, or similar influencing platforms.

In general lines, motivational video presentations are recordings of live events shared with the purpose of getting the message to the biggest audience possible (internet consumers). Another possible format for these presentations is recorded interviews or testimonials intended to speak about a person’s contributions to society. An example of this, from an organization’s point of view, are the videos produced by the UK’s NHS to highlight and thank their medical personnel for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Inspirational video presentations share common aspects with motivational speeches. A list of requirements for these video presentations would be:

  • Have a clear purpose
  • Make it personal
  • Get the message tailored for the target audience
  • A strong conclusion

Compared with traditional presentation methods, such as presentation slides or speaking in front of an audience, video presentations can offer a series of advantages.

For starters, as you write the “ story ,” you are also rehearsing the points to be covered. In that way, anxiety or shyness won’t trigger you to forget about essential points or lose track of time. The length of the presentation can be predetermined, depending on the external requirements of the organization party, or how comprehensive or concise you need it to be.

In the case of people struggling with camera shyness , an animated video presentation with voiceover is the answer to deliver quality work. Since psychologists and doctors agree the common point on fear of public speaking is the delivery of the presentation itself, video presentations shall reduce work-induced anxiety to a great degree. Since psychologists and doctors agree the common point on fear of public speaking is the delivery of the presentation itself, video presentations shall reduce work-induced anxiety to a great degree. You can also convert images to video online using video editor platforms to easily create video from images and voiceover on video.

Video presentations can be persuasive thanks to the usage of graphics and audio. It is far easier to convey emotions through video presentations than to put them in the presentation design. Also, research by Dr. James McQuivey proved that a minute of video is worth 1.8 million words in terms of information retention.

Regarding engagement, the popularity that both TikTok and YouTube gained among the younger generations reflects the behavioral changes in content consumption . It has come to the point that even professionals use TikTok to demystify health hoaxes and help users worldwide. Therefore, using video format for presentations can help to boost your presentation performance, making it attractive for your audience and less effort-demanding.

The most significant factor in delivering a successful video presentation is keeping the audience engaged. To ensure this, make sure the presentation doesn’t feel robotic-like but that it conveys a personal message. Don’t get this point wrong if we talk strictly about business or academic scenarios; making video presentations to deliver your personal touch can become as simple as selecting the proper color combination to enforce your message . Other solutions come from watching your voice tone not to make it too monotonous.

Structure your presentation accordingly. In business or academic video presentations is a good idea to introduce a slide in the fashion of a table of contents . It is an extra touch that brings the audience closer to the topics due to be discussed.

Consider the audience’s perspective as a vital element in video presentations. Check relevant examples of the topic discussed on platforms such as YouTube or DailyMotion. Compare their approach to yours and assert if you would watch your presentation as a spectator or not. This simple test gives insights into which aspects you should work on.

Winning video presentations never miss the usage of CTAs. It’s a good method to direct the audience’s interest to a specific goal.

Video presentations can become an incredible tool for driving engagement, yet there is a problem that not so many presenters address: accessibility. Think about how many times a presenter ends a phrase like “over here,” assuming the audience is watching the item being shown. But what if members of the target audience have visual impairments?

Much like we consider the importance of adding Closed Captioning (CC) to our videos, accessibility in terms of the narrative is a must. On this behalf, we want to introduce an interesting research that led to the production of a tool named Slidecho . Using state-of-the-art technology like video scene detection, AI, and OCR, Slideshow follows these very steps:

  • Step 1: Extract slide frames
  • Step 2: Selecting slide elements
  • Step 3: Detecting described elements from the slide elements
  • Step 4: Aligning slides with the speech

Therefore, Slidecho uses an algorithmic methodology to extract the visual elements from the slides, converting them to an audio reading format whilst aligning it with the original speaker’s narration. Moreover, its interface instantiates new interactions that augment the plain video interface with synchronized slide information and audio notifications to alert users to undescribed elements.

This technological advance helps the audience better understand what is being presented, regardless of the context of the presentation. Imagine an award ceremony where many references apply to visual cues. People with visual impairments get half of the message, with luck, when presenters fall into colloquial language usage, not understanding the context or having to ask for clarification. If instead, the synced narration is available, we then talk about making presentations available for everyone. This is an accurate definition of enriching an event experience.

If we talk about attending to the needs of people with hearing impairments, we have to consider the social factor as a motivator in presentations. It is a common mistake to leave slides filled with text and voiceover narration in the background providing detailed information. A study made by Stanford University speaks about the value of having the presenter’s face available through these slides, as it delivers both social cues plus helps users through lip reading. The human factor also reduces distractions since the audience must check the presenter’s input on written slides.

Example of video instruction with lecture slides in the back - Effects on information retention, visual attention and affect.

Tip #1 – Be mindful of the presentation topic

It’s not the same to create a presentation for a business audience as an inspirational presentation. The category of the presentation shall determine items like

  • Background music
  • Color theme
  • Visual hierarchy
  • Videos to include

Tip #2 – Limit the number of words to include

The whole idea behind the video presentation is to make a dynamic presentation, not having to pause every 5 seconds to allow the spectator to read.

Instead, use words to transmit powerful messages, such as quotes relevant to the presented topic, key information, or CTAs. Use the 7×7 rule: no slide should have more than 7 lines of text, and no sentence should have more than 7 words.

Tip #3 – Voiceovers can become your best friends

The whole point behind a video presentation is not to create a boring one-person video speaking in front of the camera. Use voiceovers effectively to introduce charts, data feedback, etc., with your voice connecting the points of the entire presentation.

Be mindful of the tone. A monotonous or flat tone can divert attention and induce people to ignore your work. Your voice skills should articulate the importance of the point being discussed as well as your interest in it.

Tip #4 – The power of transitions

Adding suitable transitions and animations makes the presentation more engaging . However, this isn’t equal to adding countless effects. Less is more.

Ask a professional for guidance if you don’t have experience with animation effects. The transition can be part of the conversation, being subtle if the presentation is flowing between data sets or similar topics, or contrasting and powerful to deliver a persuasive message. You may also want to insert a transition when you’ve used a video cutter to remove an unwanted part to smooth out the video flow. Don’t abuse any of the two extremes, or the audience may find it uncomfortable.

Tip #5 – Make video presentations accessible

As we mentioned before, quite often presenters assume the audience can understand every part of a video presentation. Reality tells us to attend to the needs of people with visual and auditory impairments by making audio and video media accessible .

Subtitles or translator screen-over using sign language is a perfect opportunity to help people with auditory impairments feel part of the presentation, making the message available to them as well.

For people with visual impairments, be mindful about how you create the narrative for your presentation, in particular, avoiding visual cues like: “over here,” “this,” and “there” and gesticulating over an object or person, assuming everyone can get the same reference information. Instead, opt to be descriptive in your speech; software solutions can help a great deal, but you can also use native PowerPoint or Google Slides tools such as voiceovers .

Compatible with all versions of PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Keynote.

You also need to consider the output format of your video presentations. For maximum compatibility, you can use  MP4 or MOV. Other alternatives include:

  • MKV : The native format of most 4K videos due to being able to store multiple audio tracks. Ideal for presentations with different voiceover languages that presenters can pick from.
  • WMV : It’s a quality format for rendering videos to be shared via e-mail, although not compatible with some devices. Installing codecs is advised.
  • WebM : This format is one of the preferred choices for online video libraries or live streaming services, but it can present compatibility issues.

The answer to this question entirely depends on your aim for creating video presentations. For most presenters, PowerPoint and Google Slides will do a good job, allowing them to use features such as voiceovers, transitions, animations, and high-quality graphics.

If instead, you desire to make advanced effects, screen recordings, or toon-like animations with voiceovers, then you should check the following list of solutions:

  • Camtasia (Techsmith) : It is a professional video editing software, much lighter and easier to use than Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas. You can create professional transition or animation effects, work with layers to add multiple sounds or video sources and create screen recordings.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro : The industry-leading software in video editing. This often intimidating software by Adobe has all the requirements for professional video editing, plus full integration with third-party plugins or other software from the Adobe suite to enhance the video result.
  • Sony Vegas Pro : It is considered a direct competitor to Adobe Premiere Pro, less demanding in hardware requirements, and somewhat more user-friendly.
  • Final Cut Pro : For Mac users, this is the option to consider if we talk about video editing. Powerful and tailored for the hardware the Mac device has.

As we have seen in this article, video presentations are far from obsolete. It is a truly engaging method to divulge our ideas, especially if we target a younger audience.

Take your time to write a compelling story to tell rather than spilling animations and transitions along the way. Professional-made video presentations always care about details and the takeaway message for the spectator.

1. The 20-Minute Rule

If you don’t feel like you have your presentation squared away as much as you wish at the 20-minute mark before it’s time to speak, you’re not going to accomplish anything by cramming through it in your head at that point. It is too late for that. Actually, you’re just going to make things worse for yourself.

At T-20 minutes before launch, put your materials away. By now you should know that you have something of value to share with the audience. Embrace that. Put away any doubts. You’re committed to this and you need to get your brain right.

Put away any self-defeating doubts. You’re committed, so get your brain right. Click To Tweet

2. Walk Up on Stage

It’s a big shock the first few times you get up in front of a large audience. All of those faces look a lot different from a podium than they do when you’re comfortably sitting among them.

Definitely, do this. Go up on stage, or wherever you’re going to be speaking, 20 minutes before the live presentation. That will help lessen the initial shock when you walk up there for real. Get comfortable with the room when it’s empty. Make it your room. Just stand there for a few minutes and practice your first three opening sentences.

Also get comfortable with the remote and microphone. Is there a laptop on the lectern that you need to use? Do you have both a lectern mike and a remote mike? Do you know how to use them? If you’re going to be roaming around the room, do you know what speakers not to walk in front of to avoid annoying audio feedback?

3. Just Breathe

I started doing this before my third presentation and it’s made a ton of difference to help avoid the jitters. Around 10-15 minutes before speaking, walk outside the room where you can be alone for a few minutes. Focus on your breathing. Forget about the presentation content completely. If you’ve prepared well, it’s going to be there in your brain when you need it.

The goal here is to get out of your head and relax your body. It’s a physiological shift. A live presentation is a live presentation, and you now need to start engaging with people, not just yourself. A great way to do that is by simply loosening up your body and slowing down your breathing. You’re human. Be human. Don’t be a walking, talking PowerPoint slide deck.

4. Walk Among the Audience

I spend the last 10 minutes before any presentation engaging with people who are already in the room. Say hi, get to know someone, shake some hands, or just hang out with people you already know. Smile. If you don’t feel like smiling, then change how you feel.

At the same time, think about how you want to walk among the audience during the presentation if that’s part of your plan. I prefer to move when I’m presenting so I walk around a bit before the live engagement.

5. Own the Beginning For Successful Event Presentations

You’ll read a lot of content on public speaking about how you should open with a bang, or say something funny to put your audience and yourself at ease. If you can, great. But if you try and force a joke and it goes flat, you’re digging yourself a hole right off the bat. Know your strengths, and leverage those. If you’re the chirpy type, go with that. If you’re content-driven, like I am, deliver an interesting anecdote.

Most people prefer that you skip generic platitudes like, It’s really great to be here, or How is everybody today? But you have to say something, right? You can’t just stand there silently or people are going to think you’re weird.

You have to be yourself and accept that 100 percent. I usually play it a little conservative at the beginning. The best opening lines I’ve found usually include thanking whoever asked me to present or helped me with the preparation process. You can never go wrong with that.

6. Connect With Your Audience

It’s normal when you’re just starting out at public speaking to not think about the audience. You’ve spent a lot of time working with the content alone, but you’re not alone anymore. The best advice someone ever told me about public speaking is: It’s not about what you communicate. It’s about what your audience understands.

It’s not about what you communicate. It’s about what your audience understands. Click To Tweet

So right from the start, remember to look at your audience right, left and center. Make a conscious effort to do that throughout your presentation. If you’re using an audience polling platform like Sli.do , the log-in details should be on the first slide. It also gives you something to say at the beginning, and it’s a great, interactive way to engage audiences in a collective group experience.

7. Conversation Versus Presentation

Unless it’s not appropriate for your presentation, for any number of reasons, think of this experience as a conversation. Write a note somewhere you can see that says conversation in it. A good presentation is a dialogue. You’re co-creating the takeaways.

Adrian Segar, from Conferences That Work , has built his career around this concept. He says that the collective wisdom in the crowd is usually exponentially greater than the person speaking up front. You want to tap into that throughout your presentation.

If you’re using a tech platform for audience engagement, make sure you give yourself enough time to use it. You need to schedule time to explain the process, show the polling questions, wait for the answers, facilitate conversation around the answers, and be present in the moment enough to offer your own insight on the spot.

8. Avoid: “Does Anyone Have Any Questions?”

I’ve experienced more than a few times total silence after asking, Does anyone have any questions? Instead, I’ve noticed experienced speakers ask specific questions, especially ones that have answers that you think will make someone look interesting when they answer. I first learned that when Corbin Ball was giving a presentation at an MPI event, and he asked if anyone had used Airbnb during a convention.

Another example, I was giving a presentation about the future of meetings, which included a section about the growth of interdisciplinary programming at popular events like South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin. So I asked if anyone had been to SXSW. One woman was happy to answer. She had insight that most of the rest of the audience didn’t. That was awesome, and you want as much of that as you can get.

9. Have a Little Fun With It

The best presenters look like they enjoy the process of public speaking. During your presentation, go off schedule. Stop. Change your body posture and connect with someone who’s really engaged with your presentation. Do or say something spontaneous to change up the rhythm and shift the overall tone. Just like you would in any conversation.

Digital futurist, keynote speaker, and virtual event host @CMWorld 2020

Here are just a few speakers we’ve worked with to create beautiful Prezi videos

Virtual conferences.

Keynote Speaker + Message Strategist @CMWorld 2020

I've always believed that it's the combination of presenter and visuals that has the most impact. When it comes to virtual speaking, though, so often the audience has to choose which one they want to see. Prezi Video has solved that problem for me, and in the most audience and speaker-friendly way. I get the benefit of brand-reinforcing visuals that support what I say, and the audience gets the best of both worlds.

CMO, Uberflip @CMWorld 2020

Standing out when presenting is hard enough normally - but when right now every day feels like a webinar as we live on Zoom - we need to break out. Using Prezi Video allows me to stand out so my audience leans in on my ideas. I love that I can combine my passion and expression with my content on the same video screen vs needing to choose whether my content or my face is the main focus. I always say experience wins and Prezi creates a great experience.

Marketing & Innovation Strategist + Global Keynote Speaker @B2B Ignite USA 2020

When I wanted my presentations to stand out, I turned to Prezi. When the world went virtual, Prezi Video became my go-to presentation platform. I wanted a way to capture the attention of my audiences and give them the same “wow” factor that my Prezi presentation did. As a speaker who focuses on innovation and creativity, the industry standards couldn’t deliver the experience I wanted. Prezi makes creating captivating presentations intuitive, and stories flow naturally. One of the first questions I’m asked is, ‘What did you use to create your presentation, it’s amazing!'

CEO, 97th Floor @CMWorld 2020

Prezi was a great format for my presentation, especially in a remote environment. Prezi Video helped my content stand out without significantly increasing production costs and, more importantly, allowed me to better connect with the audience and hold their attention. I'm looking forward to building my next presentation using the Prezi platform.

Inbound Marketing Manager, Lucid

Creating pre-recorded speaking sessions that are actually engaging has been such a challenge. Prezi made this so much easier with full-view video and engaging presentations.

Owner, Smart CRO @CMWorld 2020

Prezi Video gave my conference presentation a unique flair. Being able to have the content of the presentation on the screen with my face made the entire presentation more cohesive, and made the slides less distracting and MUCH more engaging. Such a cool platform.

Global Growth Evangelist, Salesforce

“When it came time to present the latest update to my annual Future of Sales presentation, I knew I wanted to do something different - to help bring life to the presentation and stand out in the virtual world we now live in. Prezi Video allowed me to seamlessly integrate beautiful visuals on the same screen as my face, creating a unique and engaging experience for my audience. I’ve already gotten feedback from multiple people asking how they can use Prezi Video to do something similar with their content.”

In a sea of presentation sameness, Prezi Video stands OUT. It's by far the easiest way to add spice to whatever you're presenting. With Prezi Video, you don't need to be an AV warlock to make your presentations amazing. Highly recommended! -- Jay Baer , a Hall of Fame keynote speaker and certified virtual presenter

Customized a Prezi Next presentation and then converted it to Prezi Video as the video becomes the background. This can be used to create the desired emotional connection needed to maintain audience attention and drive interactivity within virtual events. -- Brian Fanzo , a virtual keynote speaker and digital futurist

The 7 Best Show-Stopping End of Year Event Video Ideas

Picture of Ed Heil

Year end can be a stressful time for leaders as they tackle end of the year planning. Many companies today are starting to brainstorm how to approach year-end get-togethers for both in-person and virtual teams so they can celebrate the holidays even if they can’t be together. Additionally, many nonprofit organizations host galas at the end of the year which brings a completely different level of pressure, stress and opportunity!

That said, planning your organization's end of year event is really a year-round responsibility. Once one event ends, the next one begins — at least in the organizer's mind. What went well this time? What successes and initiatives should be included in the next one? How can you top what you just did? The planning is nonstop. Even more, if you include a video in your big event .

download the video checklist

Talk about pressure! Fortunately, though, we're here to help with some inspiration and six show-stopping video ideas to make your gala, holiday party, or end-of-year celebration extra special.

1. Creative recap of the year

This is the most obvious angle for a gala video, and it's all about the   storytelling . People love to relive moments from the past year, especially highlights and success stories (and you'll feel good telling them). Above all, make it entertaining. Don't just have somebody read a script and cover the words with appropriate pictures. That's like going over to your neighbor's house to watch a slideshow from their last trip — there's a reason nobody does that anymore.

Instead, you might interview some of the key players from your big success stories (not just the organization's leaders) or speak directly to the experiences of your customers. Highlight their accomplishments, challenges overcome, and their proudest moments. Bring the story to life with supporting video that "takes us there" — then add music, graphics, and anything else that might increase the interest and entertainment of your audience.

Take a look at Google's Year in Search 2020 video and how they use looking back on this significant year to tell a story.

2. Illustrate Your Organization's Impact

click here to schedule a time to talk about your video and get started with your video production

As a long-time partner, Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis came to us to develop a 30-minute video program that highlighted the impact the organization made across its four main service areas. Throughout 2020 and COVID-19, they worked hard to provide hope and support to individuals in need across the community. The final video was also repurposed into a wider campaign of emails, social media posts, and video clips that could be shared both internally and externally throughout the organization and community. The coordinated campaign resulted in the strongest December giving Catholic Charities has ever had.

3. Feature stories illustratinG success

There's a reason many organizations go with a great feature story illustrating one key success. It works. For charities   and   companies. If you have a compelling character who is willing to share how the organization helped them, and maybe even how they want to thank the people at the event, you've already got an interesting message. As one of my colleagues at WCCO-TV used to say, "That story just tells itself."

Don't get me wrong, it takes some work to identify the good story, and then some sharp storytelling to make sure it comes across correctly, but there's a reason some people refer   to   these interesting, engaging human interest stories as "make 'em cry" videos. If you pick the right one, there really will be tears in the audience.

Here's one of my favorites. The video below features a resident from Catholic Charities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul that opened a new building to transition people from homelessness. Instead of showing the building process or the CEO, this video features the real story of someone who's life completely changed by having a place to live.

4. Honor a key player or important leader

Want to honor a key member of your team or a key donor to the charity? Nothing calls them out more than a nice video. If the focal point of the event will be an introduction and big speech by someone important, consider adding video to the mix. A   well-produced video   about the person will set the stage much better than a lengthy introduction (a.k.a. somebody stumbling over their bio), and the video will even make their speech better because the audience can better understand and visualize some of the things they are likely to talk about.

5. CELEBRATE THE MANY PARTS OF YOUR organization

Even when you’re in a single office, it can be difficult to know how the many parts of your company work together to achieve collective success. This becomes even more difficult when you’re part of a multi-office company, with teams spread out across the country.

MCG Civil , a large-scale manufacturer and overseer of complex infrastructure projects, was like most companies at the end of 2020 who needed to get creative finding alternatives to hosting in-person events due to social distancing. As a virtual event, they needed to be mindful of holding the attention of their audiences spread across the country. They leaned into using our thirty years of television news production experience to produce a thirty-minute branded company video.

Much like a television newscast, the video had two hosts (company leaders) and included six 3-4 minute segments uniquely packaging stories from across the organization, recognizing their offices in Castle Rock, CO, Austin, TX, and Charlotte, NC.

6. Organization leaders read a "thank you" message

Read that sentence again for a moment. It says leaders (plural), not just one leader. In other words, I'm not talking about one person reading a one-minute script. No matter how compelling the copy, that won't get anybody's attention. I'm talking about a group of people, reading small parts of the script into the camera individually — edited into one message.

It's an interesting, compelling way to show off your team, highlight some of the things that they do (by paying careful attention to backgrounds), and gives the feeling that the collective group is thankful for the support.

7. Employees sing a song (or read a poem) line-by-line

If you're looking for a big reaction, get people to sing or read an old song. Whether they sing a Christmas carol line-by-line or read a poem like The Night Before Christmas , their character will come out. Your biggest hams will play to the camera and get big laughs. Your shyest staffers will also play well — as long as you can convince them to go on camera. This is our favorite, fun, inclusive kind of video for an end-of-year event, and it really is a guaranteed show-stopper.

Whether you are creating your video internally or working with a   video production company   to help you, it's important to take some time to brainstorm different ideas that could work best for your event. Your video might be funny, it could be a tear-filled   story,   or a celebration of big milestones, but no matter what, it needs to be well-planned. Here are some more   video examples   to help inspire you.

OpenAI GPT-4o — breakthrough voice assistant, new vision features and everything you need to know

Chatgpt gets a new model, upgraded voice assistant and more love for the free users.

Sam Altman CEO of OpenAI

OpenAI hosted its Spring Update event live today and it lived up to the "magic" prediction, launching a new GPT-4o model for both the free and paid version of ChatGPT, a natural and emotional sounding voice assistant and vision capabilities.

There are still many updates OpenAI hasn't revealed including the next generation GPT-5 model, which could power the paid version when it launches. We also haven't had an update on the release of the AI video model Sora or Voice Engine.

However, there was more than enough to get the AI-hungry audience excited during the live event including the fully multimodal GPT-4o that can take in and understand speech, images and video content, responding in speech or text.

ChatGPT-4o Cheat Sheet: What You Need to Know

  • Big upgrade for free ChatGPT users: OpenAI is opening up many of the features previously reserved for paying customers. This includes access to image and document analysis, data analytics and custom GPT chatbots.
  • ChatGPT GPT-4o — why it's a big deal : Multimodal by design, GPT-4o was rebuilt and retrained from scratch by OpenAI to understand speech-to-speech as well as other forms of input and output without first converting them to text.
  • How to get access to GPT-4o : You can already get access to GPT-4o if you are a Plus subscriber, with access gradually rolling out to all ChatGPT users on mobile, desktop and the web over the coming weeks.
  • ChatGPT-4o vs Google Gemini Live: At its I/O event Google announced Project Astra and Gemini Live, a voice and video assistant designed to directly compete with the new ChatGPT Voice feature powered by GPT-4o, but how do they stack up?
  • GPT-4 vs GPT-4o: While it might be a completely new type of AI model GPT-4o didn't actually outperform GPT-4 on standard text-based tasks. However, its victory will be found in live speech and video analysis. It is also more conversational.
  • 5 top new features in GPT-4o: GPT-4o comes with some impressive new features and functionality not previously possible. This includes conversational speech and live translation across multiple languages — but those features aren't live yet.
  • Putting Siri on notice: OpenAI's GPT-4o and specifically ChatGPT4 makes "Siri look downright primitive," declares Tom's Guide global editor in chief Mark Spoonauer.

Google Gemini vs GPT 4o

Google isn't taking the introduction of GPT-4o standing still. It just unveiled its own Gemini Live AI assistant that's multi-modal with impressive voice and video capabilities. Check out our GPT-4o vs Gemini Live preview to see how these supercharged AI helpers are stacking up.

GPT-4o as a live translation device?

OpenAI demonstrated a feature of GPT-4o that could be a game changer for the global travel industry — live voice translation.

Working in a similar way to human translators at global summits, ChatGPT acts like the middle man between two people speaking completely different languages.

During the demo OpenAI CTO Mira Murati spoke in Italian, ChatGPT repeated what she said in English and relayed it to her colleague Mark. He then spoke in English and ChatGPT translated that into Italian and spoke the words — with questionable accent — back to Murati.

It isn't perfect, and likely won't be available for several weeks and even then on a limited rollout, but its ability to allow interruptions and live voice-to-voice communication is a major step-up in this space. I just wish it was ready for my trip to Paris next week.

Hands on with GPT-4o

GPT-4 vs GPT-4o

Some users already have access to the text features of GPT-4o in ChatGPT including our AI Editor Ryan Morrison who found it significantly faster than GPT-4, but not necessarily a significant improvement in reasoning.

He created five prompts that are designed to challenge an AI's reasoning abilities and used them on both GPT-4 and GPT-4o, comparing the results.

One of the tests asked each model to write a Haiku comparing the fleeting nature of human life to the longevity of nature itself.

GPT-4: Autumn leaves whisper, Mountains outlive fleeting breath— Silent stone endures.

Omni: Ephemeral bloom, Whispers fade in timeless breeze— Dust upon the dawn.

A new way to interact with data

ChatGPT with GPT-4o voice and video leaves other voice assistants like Siri, Alex and even Google's Gemini  on Android looking like out of date antiques.

Its launch felt like a definitive moment in technology equal to Steve Jobs revealing the iPhone, the rise and rule of Google in search or even as far back as Johannes Gutenberg printing press. It will change how engage with data.

Our AI Editor Ryan Morrison described it as the "most excited he's been for a new product ever." Declaring it a paradigm shift in human computer interface.

"The small black dot you talk to and that talks back is as big of a paradigm shift in accessing information as the first printing press, the typewriter, the personal computer, the internet or even the smartphone," he wrote.

GPT-4o as an accessibility device?

OpenAI has been releasing a series of product demo videos showing off the vision and voice capabilities of its impressive new GPT-4o model.

Among them are videos of the AI singing, playing games and helping someone "see" what is happening and describe what they are seeing.

A video filmed in London shows a man using ChatGPT 4o to get information on Buckingham Palace, ducks in a lake and someone going into a taxi. These are all impressive accessibility features that could prove invaluable to someone with poor sight or even sight loss.

It also highlights something I've previously said — the best form factor for AI is smart glasses, with cameras at eye level and sound into your ears.

One more day until #GoogleIO! We’re feeling 🤩. See you tomorrow for the latest news about AI, Search and more. pic.twitter.com/QiS1G8GBf9 May 13, 2024

It looks like Google is nervous. During OpenAI's event Google previewed a Gemini feature that leverages the camera to describe what's going on in the frame and to offer spoken feedback in real time, just like what OpenAI showed off today. We'll find out tomorrow at Google I/O 2024 how advanced this feature is.

OpenAI doing live demo of ChatGPT-4o

Our global editor in chief, Mark Spoonauer, has weighed in on OpenAI's announcements and demos and he says that the new GPT-4o voice assistant puts Siri on notice . And he has a point.

This assistant is fast, is more conversational than anything Apple has done (yet), and has Google Lens-like vision. It can even do real-time translations. In other words, the new Siri had better be good. Because this just raised the bar.

GTP 4o Ender

That's all folks. A short and sweet presentation that genuinely felt like a ChatGPT-moment. The voice interface sounds natural, emotional and genuinely useful.

It is only a rumor, but if this is what is going to replace Siri on the iPhone thanks to a deal with OpenAI — I'm all for it.

Bringing the power of GPT-4 to the free version of ChatGPT, along with voice, GPTs and other core functionality is also a bold move on the eve of the Google I/O announcement and will likely cement OpenAI's dominance in this space.

Not launching today

Detecting emotions from selfies

OpenAI's ChatGPT is now capable of detecting emotion by looking at a face through the camera. During the demo they showed a smiling face and the AI asked "want to share the reason for your good vibes."

I completely understand why Sam Altman described this as magical! The voice assistant is incredible and if it is even close to as good as the demo this will be a new way to interact with AI, replacing text.

It will be rolling out over the coming few weeks.

A real-time translation tool

Real time translation with ChatGPT

During a demo the OpenAI team demonstrated ChatGPT Voice's ability to act as a live translation tool. It took words in Italian from Mira Murati and converted it to English, then took replies in English and translated to Italian.

This is going to be a big deal for travellers.

OpenAI created the perfect tutor

Plot analysis

Using an incredibly natural voice, running on a Mac, ChatGPT was able to view code being written and analyze the code. It was also able to describe what it is seeing, including spotting any potential issues.

The vision capabilities of the ChatGPT Desktop app seem to include the ability to view the desktop. During the demo it was able to look at a graph and provide real feedback and information.

Will ChatGPT do homework for you?

I love ChatGPT

One of the features of the new ChatGPT is native vision capabilities. This is essentially the ability for it to "see" through the camera on your phone.

In a demo the team showed ChatGPT an equation they'd just written on a piece of paper and asked the AI to help solve the problem. It didn't give the answer, rather offered advice and talked them through it step-by-step.

The AI is able to see the changes you make. In another example they opened the camera to show the letters "I heart ChatGPT" on a piece of paper. The AI sounded very emotional at the idea of being told "I love you".

There was a weird moment at the end where the camera was still active and ChatGPT saw the outfit the presenter was wearing and said "wow, I love the outfit you have on."

AI gets emotional

Bedtime story from ChatGPT

In another demo of the ChatGPT Voice upgrade they demonstrated the ability to make OpenAI voice sound not just natural but dramatic and emotional.

They started by asking it to create a story and had it attempt different voices including a robotic sound, a singing voice and with intense drama.

The singing voice was impressive and could be used to provide vocals for songs as part of an AI music model in the future.

Talking to AI just got real!

ChatGPT voice assistant alternative

One of the biggest upgrades with GPT-4o is live speech. The model is capable of working end-to-end with speech-to-speech. It listens to the audio rather than transcribing the speech first.

In the demo of this feature the OpenAI staffer did heavy breathing into the voice assistant and it was able to offer advice on improving breathing techniques.

It even warned him "you're not a vacuum cleaner". You don't have to wait for it to finish talking either, you can just interrupt in real time. It even picks up on emotion.

Fewer benefits to paying for ChatGPT

GPT-4o API

With the free version of ChatGPT getting a major upgrade and all the big features previously exclusive to ChatGPT Plus, it raises questions over whether it is worth the $20 per month.

Mira Murati, OpenAI CTO says the biggest benefit for paid users will be five times more requests per day to GPT-4o than the free plan.

Free users are getting a big upgrade

GPT-40 closeup

GPT-4o is shifting the collaboration paradigm of interaction between the human and the machine. "When we interact with one another there is a lot we take for granted," said CTO Mira Murati.

She said GPT-4o is able to reason across voice, text and vision. "This allows us to bring the GPT-4-class intelligence to our free users." Which they've been working on for months.

More than 100 million people use ChatGPT regularly and 4o is significantly more efficient than previous versions of GPT-4. This means they can bring GPTs (custom chatbots) to the free version of ChatGPT.

You'll also be able to use data, code and vision tools — allowing you to analyze images without paying for a count.

Mission

"An important part of our mission is being able to make our advanced AI tools available to everyone for free," including removing the need to sign up for ChatGPT.

During a demo they showed off a Mac desktop app that includes the Voice mode currently only available on mobile. This isn't a voice assistant as rumored.

Mira

OpenAI CTO Mira Murati opens the event with a discussion of making a product that is more easy to use "wherever you are". This includes a desktop app with refreshed UI. Also launching a new model called GPT-4o that brings GPT-4-level intelligence to all users including those on the free version of ChatGPT. These are rolling out over the next few weeks.

See you soon: https://t.co/yM7TCDoQpF pic.twitter.com/jWDQSXJwQe May 13, 2024

It's show time! This is the first mainstream live event from OpenAI about new product updates. The question is — which products. Dubbed a "spring update", the company says it will just be a demo of some ChatGPT and GPT-4 updates but company insiders have been hyping it up on X, with co-founder Greg Brockman describing it as a "launch".

The hype is real and there are nearly 40,000 people watching the live stream on YouTube — so hopefully we get something interesting.

Will there be a 'one more thing'?

Steve Jobs introduces the original iPhone.

One question I’m pondering as we’re minutes away from OpenAI’s first mainstream live event is whether we’ll see hints of future products alongside the new updates or even a Steve Jobs style "one more thing" at the end. Something unexpected.

Sora has probably been the most high-profile product announcement since ChatGPT itself but it remains restricted to a handful of selected users outside of OpenAI.

The company also has an ElevenLabs competitor in Voice Engine that is also buried behind safety research and capable of cloning a voice in seconds.

Rumors also point to a 3D and improved image model, so the question is whether, in addition to the updates to GPT-4 and ChatGPT, we’ll get a look at Sora, Voice Engine and more.

My bet would be on us seeing a new Sora video, potentially the Shy Kids balloon head video posted on Friday to the OpenAI YouTube channel. We may even see Figure, the AI robotics company OpenAI has invested in, bring out one of the GPT-4-powered robots to talk to Altman.

Will ChatGPT be able to make music?

OpenAI has started its live stream an hour early and in the background we can hear bird chirping, leaves rustling and a musical composition that bears the hallmarks of an AI generated tune.

At its "Spring Update" the company is expected to announce something "magic" but very little is known about what we might actually see. Speculation suggestions a voice assistant, which would require a new AI voice model from the ChatGPT maker.

Current leading AI voice platform ElevenLabs recently revealed a new music model, complete with backing tracks and vocals — could OpenAI be heading in a similar direction? Could you ask ChatGPT to "make me a love song" and it'll go away and produce it? Probably not yet, but its fun to speculate.

ChatGPT phone home

OpenAI seems to be working on having phone calls inside of chatGPT. This is probably going to be a small part of the event announced on Monday.(1/n) pic.twitter.com/KT8Hb54DwA May 11, 2024

One of the weirder rumors is that OpenAI might soon allow you to make calls within ChatGPT, or at least offer some degree of real-time communication from more than just text.

This comes from leaked code files revealing various call notification strings. The company has also set up webRTC servers linked to ChatGPT. This is an open-source project for providing real-time communication inside an application — such as voice and video conferencing.

This could be part of the agent behavior also rumored for ChatGPT. With this, you'd be able to give the AI an instruction and have it go off and perform the action on your behalf — giving it call access could allow it to phone for an appointment or handle incoming calls without you getting involved.

However, as OpenAI looks to further enhance the productivity potential of ChatGPT they could have Slack and Microsoft Teams in their sights — offering meeting and conferencing capabilities inside the chat interface, allowing greater collaboration on a shared chat thread.

not gpt-5, not a search engine, but we’ve been hard at work on some new stuff we think people will love! feels like magic to me.monday 10am PT. https://t.co/nqftf6lRL1 May 10, 2024

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman made it clear there will not be a search engine launched this week. This was re-iterated by the company PR team after I pushed them on the topic. However, just because they’re not launching a Google competitor doesn’t mean search won’t appear.

One suggestion I've seen floating around X and other platforms is the theory that this could be the end of the knowledge cutoff problem. This is where AI models only have information up to the end of their training— usually 3-6 months before launch.

OpenAI recently published a model rule book and spec, among the suggested prompts are those offering up real information including phone numbers and email for politicians. This would benefit from live access taken through web scraping — similar to the way Google works.

So while we might not see a search engine, OpenAI may integrate search-like technology into ChatGPT to offer live data and even sourcing for information shared by the chatbot.

New model codenames: gpt-4l, gpt-4l-auto, gpt-4-auto pic.twitter.com/NBUtBDVQXf May 9, 2024

What are gpt-4l, and gpt-4-auto? Could these be what we will see at the event today? Time will tell, but we've got some educated guesses as to what these could mean — based on what features are already present and looking at the direction OpenAI has taken.

  • GPT4l = ChatGPT-4 Lite . We wouldn't be surprised if we saw GPT-3.5 get retired — replaced by a slimmer version of GPT-4.
  • GPT-4-auto is an interesting one. We already know the name based on the codename (no initials here). However, it could mean one of two things. Either, it's a reference to the agent AI — being able to complete tasks on your behalf by visiting websites. Or, it could be a faster, smarter version of the current dynamic model switching — intelligently flipping between models based on the nature of your query.

ChatGPT and Google Search

OpenAI is not going after Google search just yet. But leaks are pointing to an AI-fuelled search engine coming from the company soon .

Little is known, but we do know it's in the later stages of testing, with the possible plan being to pair ChatGPT with a web crawler based search. Ryan Morrison provides some great insight into what OpenAI will need to do to beat Google at its own game — including making it available as part of the free plan.

OpenAI logo on phone sitting on top of laptop keyboard

Don't expect ChatGPT-5 to be announced at this event. CEO Sam Altman has said so himself, but that doesn't mean there hasn't already been a ton of speculation around this new version — reportedly set to debut by the end of the year.

While concrete facts are very thin on the ground, we understand that GPT-5 has been in training since late than last year. It's looking likely that the new model will be multimodal too — allowing it to take input from more than just text.

Alongside this, rumors are pointing towards GPT-5 shifting from a chatbot to an agent. This would make it an actual assistant to you, as it will be able to connect to different services and perform real-world actions.

Oh, and let's not forget how important generative AI has been for giving humanoid robots a brain. GPT-5 could include spatial awareness data as part of its training, to be even more cognizant of its location, and understand how humans interact with the world.

Siri

One key question that is being asked in anticipation of this event is a simple one: what does this mean for Apple?

It's being reported that the Cupertino crew is close to a deal with OpenAI , which will allow for "ChatGPT features in Apple's iOS 18." In terms of how this is executed, we're not sure. It could be anything from keeping ChatGPT as a separate third-party app and giving it more access to the iOS backend, to actually replacing Siri with it.

Based on rumors and leaks, we're expecting AI to be a huge part of WWDC — including the use of on-device and cloud-powered large language models (LLMs) to seriously improve the intelligence of your on-board assistant. On top of that, iOS 18 could see new AI-driven capabilities like being able to transcribe and summarize voice recordings .

Will we see a sneak preview of how OpenAI and Apple plan to work together? We're not sure it'll be that blatant, but we'll be reading between the lines for sure.

So what can we expect from today’s special event? On the eve of Google I/O , the confirmed details are very thin on the ground, but we have some leaks and rumors that point to two big things.

To go into more detail, check out Ryan Morrison’s write up on what is being heavily speculated right now. But to summarize the key points:

  • A new kind of voice assistant: We’re predicting a chunky upgrade to OpenAI’s Whispering transcription model for a true end-to-end conversational AI that you can talk to.
  • AI agent behavior: Expanding beyond conversation and image recognition-based AI, OpenAI could announce agent-like behavior that means it can perform actions across the web for you.

And just to clarify, OpenAI is not going to bring its search engine or GPT-5 to the party, as Altman himself confirmed in a post on X.

OpenAI’s GPT-4o Model Gives ChatGPT a Snappy, Flirty Upgrade

Photo of presenters at the OpenAI's event

Since it launched in late 2022, OpenAI’s ChatGPT has generally fended off suggestions that it has emotions or desires by responding that it’s just an artificial intelligence model. Upgrades announced by OpenAI Monday showed the company apparently trying to make the chatbot act more like a human.

In demos, the new version of ChatGPT was capable of rapid-fire, natural voice conversations, picked up on emotional cues, and displayed simulated emotional reactions of its own.

During a livestream from the company’s headquarters in San Francisco on Monday, Mira Murati, OpenAI’s chief technology officer, announced that ChatGPT will be powered by a new, more powerful AI model called GPT-4o. The model will be available to both free and paid users of ChatGPT via a new desktop app as well as the existing mobile app and web version.

Murati said the GPT-4o model allows ChatGPT to respond more rapidly to voice, image, and video input than OpenAI’s previous technology. In demos, she and other OpenAI employees had fast-flowing conversations with ChatGPT, which answered using a liveley and expressive female-sounding voice and nimbly kept up when interrupted.

ChatGPT adopted different emotional tones during the conversation and at times responded as if it were experiencing feelings of its own. When an OpenAI employee said he had been talking about how “useful and amazing” the chatbot is, it responded flirtatiously, gushing “Oh stop it, you’re making me blush.”

“This just feels so magical, and that’s wonderful,” Murati said, adding, “over the next few weeks we’ll be rolling out these capabilities to everyone.”

At another point in the demo, ChatGPT responded to OpenAI researcher Barret Zoph’s greeting by asking, “How can I brighten your day today?” When Zoph asked the chatbot to look at a selfie of him and say what emotions he was showing, ChatGPT responded, “I’ll put my emotional detective hat on” and warmly said, “It looks like you’re feeling pretty happy and cheerful … whatever’s going on, it looks like you’re in a great mood.”

In a blog post Monday, OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, highlighted the significance of the new interface. “It feels like AI from the movies; and it’s still a bit surprising to me that it’s real,” Altman wrote. “Getting to human-level response times and expressiveness turns out to be a big change.”

OpenAI’s tweaks may make ChatGPT more engaging and popular, but they may also change the way users think about the program.

ChatGPT became a sensation last year thanks to its remarkable ability to answer questions and generate text with what often resembles humanlike understanding. But OpenAI and leading competitors such as Google have so far generally sought to limit the anthropomorphism of their chatbots, by refusing to answer certain types of questions and having models remind users that they are mere computer programs.

Despite that caution, the sometimes lifelike repartee of the latest chatbots can tap into users’ emotions. Some companies have adapted the technology to maximize this phenomenon, offering AI companions that role-play different human emotions or are offered as AI girlfriends and boyfriends . Some AI researchers have warned that the long-term implications of deploying programs that mimic and respond to emotions could be unwelcome.

Photo of interface of GPT Chat 4

A team at Google DeepMind last month released a research paper exploring the ethical risks that may arise as AI assistants become more capable. Among other things, the researchers warn that such assistants could become highly persuasive and addictive. Last year, a British man pleaded guilty to breaching security at Windsor Castle , saying that a chatbot he had exchanged more than 5,000 messages with had encouraged him to do so.

In addition to snappier conversational skills, OpenAI says its GPT-4o model makes ChatGPT better able to make sense of images, including photos and charts, and can store more information about a user in its “memory” to provide a more personalized experience.

OpenAI says it will make GPT-4o available to users of the free version of ChatGPT, essentially upgrading all users to its most capable AI model.

Google is expected to unveil new AI technologies of its own at the search company’s I/O developer conference starting Tuesday. Competition between companies working on AI seems unlikely to cool down. At the end of today’s OpenAI event, Murati promised that the company would soon be offering more announcements, “on our progress towards the next big thing.”

Anna Delvey is using her next court appearance as a ‘fashion presentation’ for her brand

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Sketch by SHAO New York

Budding fashion publicist Anna Delvey is putting on the first-ever “court-appearance-as-fashion-presentation” later this week, Page Six has learned.

As we first reported, the beloved scam artiste launched a fashion PR consultancy, the OutLaw Agency, with biz legend Kelly Cutrone last year.

Its first event was a buzzed-about Fashion Week show for suiting atelier SHAO New York that the agency staged on the roof of “Fake Heiress” Delvey’s East Village apartment (where she was under house arrest at the time).

Kelly Cutrone and Anna Delvey

Now we’re told that OutLaw’s second event will be an upcoming immigration hearing at a New York courtroom, which will double (whether it likes it or not) as a press preview for new pieces from SHAO New York.

Outlaw announced to Page Six on Wednesday that Delvey — who will be appearing at a hearing about her $10,000 bail bond, whether or not a court-ordered ban on her social media will be lifted, and the terms of her house arrest — will be “wearing a custom SHAO New York black oversized twill suit with a high-waisted pencil skirt and a high slit paired with a white cotton button-down shirt with built-in shoulder pads and a silk velvet pussy bow tie” for the court date. Sketches for the look even include her now-trademark ankle monitor.

Anna Delvey

With designers facing ever-more difficulty getting attention for their wares, it seems that the OutLaw team figured they may as well harness the attention from her court appearance to get press for their client (which is, after all, the job of a fashion PR consultant).

During her 2019 trial for screwing hotels, banks, other businesses and individuals out of tens of thousands of dollars by posing as a German artistocrat, Delvey’s courtroom fashion made almost as many headlines as her crimes. Delvey — whose real name is Anna Sorokin — used a stylist for her court appearances and even refused to attend her own hearing on one occasion after designer duds failed to arrive at her cell in time for her to appear in appropriately chic attire.

We’re told Delvey and designer Shao Yang put together this week’s bold look as a comment on the expectation that defendants should wear demure outfits in front of judges.

Anna Delvey

“Why are we as women being asked to dress a certain way when we enter a courtroom, or a boardroom, or a dinner party? Why are others trying to control our level of innocence based on what we wear?,” OutLaw Agency co-founder Cutrone told us, “This is discrimination in its most subtle and intriguing form and we’re here to change it up. We have respect for the legal system and they should have respect for the fashion system.”

Delvey was convicted on attempted grand larceny, larceny in the second degree, and theft of services, and was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison .

She served two years and was remanded into the custody of ICE in 2022. She’s since been fighting to stay in the US rather than face deportation to Germany.

What to expect from OpenAI’s Spring Updates event

While reports and rumors had swirled for weeks — including one from Reuters on May 10 suggesting OpenAI would release a search engine or product to rival Google, which is hosting its own I/O conference this week, and upstart AI unicorn Perplexity — Altman put the kibosh on those on Friday, stating on X, “not gpt-5, not a search engine, but we’ve been hard at work on some new stuff we think people will love! feels like magic to me.”

The sentiment was echoed by OpenAI co-founder and president Greg Brockman in his own post on X, stating vaguely OpenAI would produce a “live demo of some new work.”

If not a search engine product, what could OpenAI launch instead?

Activity by OpenAI employees on X has hinted at a conversational audio/voice assistant reminiscent of the character Samantha in the 2006 sci-fi movie “Her,” portrayed by the voice of Scarlett Johansson.

Altman “Liked” a post on X from self-described “College student, anarcho-capitalist, techno-optimist” Spencer Schiff that said: “Currently watching Her to prepare for Monday.”

Altman also answered questions from the public using his verified account on Reddit on Friday related to OpenAI’s “Model Spec,” a new document published last week showing how it wants its AI products to behave.

In the course of that discussion, Altman answered a question from user “ankle_biter50” asking: “Will you making this new model mean that we will have chatGPT 4 and the current DALL-E free?” with a side eye/looking emoji, indicating there may be some truth to this idea.

Adding to speculation that OpenAI will be releasing a voice assistant of some kind is an observation from user “@ananayarora” on X pointing out that, looking at the source code on its website, OpenAI has “webRTC servers in place” to allow “phone calls inside of chatGPT” (thanks to Eluna.AI for spotting it ).

OpenAI seems to be working on having phone calls inside of chatGPT. This is probably going to be a small part of the event announced on Monday. (1/n) pic.twitter.com/KT8Hb54DwA — Ananay (@ananayarora) May 11, 2024

In addition, X user “@testingcatalog” posted that the ChatGPT iOS update appears to have been updated recently as well with a new conversational user interface.

OpenAI has offered a ChatGPT with Voice interface on its iOS and Android apps since December 2023 , allowing for the chatbot to speak to users back and forth and take their voice queries through their smartphones, automatically attempting to detect when the user pauses or finishes speaking. It’s accessible in the mobile apps by clicking the headphones icon beside the input text bar.

OpenAI also gave ChatGPT the ability to “speak” responses to user prompts through AI generated audio voices back in March 2024, adding a new feature called “Read Aloud” to its iOS, Android, and web apps that can be accessed by clicking the small “speaker” icon below a response.

event video presentation

The company further showcased a demo of its voice cloning technology later that month, which can reproduce a human speaker’s voice convincingly on new typed text using only a 15-second recording of the original speaker. However, like its realistic AI video generator Sora, the OpenAI “Voice Engine” remains not publicly released for now, and only accessible to selected third-party groups and testers per OpenAI’s desire to avoid or limit misuse.

Presumably, a new audio conversational assistant from OpenAI would build upon these earlier demos, releases, and technologies, and would perhaps allow a human user to “talk” to ChatGPT in a more naturalistic and humanlike open-ended conversation, without waiting for the assistant to detect a pause or finished query.

Perhaps relatedly, X user “@alwaysaq00” found code on OpenAI’s website indicating the presence of a new GPT-4 Omni model, aka GPT-4o.

I just discovered GPT-4 Omni today. Has it been around for a while? I'm wondering if OpenAI had this under wraps. Also, is 'Omni' the codename for GPT-4.5? It seems I've stumbled upon something exciting! Ive known about omni for a while though. ? https://t.co/x0gj2hYleU pic.twitter.com/CipsvvgAZ5 — alwaysaq00 (@alwaysaq00) May 13, 2024

Whatever OpenAI announces today, it will be sure to turn heads and leave the AI and broader tech industry discussing the ramifications for hours and likely days and weeks to come. Will it live up to the already surging hype — despite not being GPT-5?

Stay tuned and watch the event along with us at 10 am ET/1 pm ET and we’ll be reporting on it here live.

Before its debut presentation to ad buyers during the mid-May week of top-tier media and tech pitches, Amazon Ads is rolling out three new streaming video ad formats.

The interactive formats are hitting the market just before Amazon’s upfront presentation on May 14 at Pier 36 in New York. In previous years, Amazon positioned itself at the tech-focused NewFronts, but Prime Video ‘s addition of NFL football and other broad-audience programming prompted the company to enter the main arena this year.

2024 Premiere Dates For New & Returning Series On Broadcast, Cable & Streaming

Prime Video earlier this year began running ads on films and series for all subscribers, with Amazon execs emphasizing a strategic emphasis on ads across the company. Live sports, Twitch and Freevee had already been significant ad venues for the tech giant. Prime Video has an average monthly ad-supported reach of more than 200 million global customers, according to Amazon.

“Amazon Ads continues to re-imagine the streaming TV experience with interactive ad formats that are seamlessly shoppable and help advertisers meaningfully connect with customers,” said Alan Moss, VP, Global Ads Sales for Amazon Ads. “We are developing innovative experiences to help brands better engage with customers, as we work to transform streaming advertising through our differentiated combination of reach, first-party signals, and ad tech. Ads in Prime Video provide an unparalleled experience for advertisers to deliver on any full-funnel marketing objective – whether it’s awareness, consideration, or conversion.”

The carousel ads let viewers browse and shop multiple related products on Amazon during ad breaks on Prime Video. Brands can present a sliding lineup of their products that customers can explore on Amazon and add to their carts using most living-room remotes. The ad automatically pauses while viewers browse, automatically resuming play when ad interaction has stopped.

The trivia ads help advertisers deliver factoids about their brand as viewers shop on Amazon. Using their remote, customers can add a product to their cart, request information via email, and claim rewards like Amazon shopping credits with the purchase of eligible items.

“Amazon’s engagement with consumers throughout the funnel is unique,” says Geoffrey Calabrese, Chief Investment Officer for Omnicom Media Group North America. “With the ad innovations we are seeing from inside of their streaming offering, our clients are now able to test and learn at scale the true power of streaming TV.”

Event Video Examples: 12 Ideas & Expert Promo Tips

event video presentation

This is a guest post originally written by Megan O’Neill, former Senior Content Marketing Manager at Animoto, in 2018. This post was updated in 2023 to contain updated, relevant information.

Searching for event video examples to improve attendance at your events? Look no further. According to Hubspot , in 2022, 87% of video marketers reported that video generates a positive ROI, a massive jump from the 33% who reported the same back in 2015 . Video offers a world of opportunity when it comes to marketing everything, including events, but getting started may feel daunting. What type of videos should you make? How can you create them? Do you need to hire a professional?

Successful video examples are one of the best ways to inspire ideas and jumpstart video creation. Here’s a collection of event video examples (including several customisable templates that you can easily make your own) to inspire you with ideas for promoting your events with video.

Table of Contents

What are event videos and why should you use them.

What are different types of event videos?

Excite your guests with these event video ideas

Event teaser video ideas

Event video ideas for during your event, promo video ideas for after your event, how three creators use video in their event marketing, 7 event promo video examples to inspire your next campaign, start your event video marketing campaign today.

Event videos are a great way to generate engagement from potential event attendees online, which can massively improve ticket sales. Many of these typically take the form of teasers and promos that provide an audiovisual taster for what your event entails and leave invitees wanting more. Others capture the magic of past events as part of a broader event marketing campaign for the creator.

What are the different types of event videos?

Event videos are as varied as the events themselves. Three timing options play different roles in an event life cycle, so it’s worth exploring the different options for your video strategy. An even recap video documents a previous event, often in hopes of tantalising guests into attending another. Preview-style videos promote an upcoming event, while real-time videos capture what’s happening at an event during its actual occurrence.

Excite your guests with these ideas

These event promo video examples will leave your guests counting down the days to the big day. Check out some of the options below, and choose a model that best suits the needs of your event type.

Your use of video can begin as soon as you begin promoting your event. Video is a great way to really show people what they can expect from your event. Including photos and video clips from previous events to illustrate what’s to come inspires excitement and FOMO, leading to more registrations.

Ticket launch video

Here’s an example of a ticket launch video that you can actually customise to make your own . It was crafted to build awareness and excitement that will improve ticket sales for your event.

PRO TIP: You’ll notice that this example not only includes video footage of performers but also pictures of attendees and their families having a good time. This mix is effective because it gives potential registrants an idea of the lineup they can expect, while also showcasing the fun atmosphere that the event offers.

Pre-event announcement video

Following your ticket launch, new details about your event are likely to emerge. Perhaps a new speaker or performer has joined your lineup. Perhaps new vendors have come on board. Video is a nice way to share these updates, as illustrated in this example which is also a template you can use for your event.

PRO TIP: You know your audience better than anyone. Before creating this type of video, ask yourself what updates your attendees would be the most excited about. Put those at the beginning of your video to capture viewers’ attention.

Event reminder video with FAQ

You’ve probably got an FAQ about your event on your website. But for attendees that don’t want to search for answers, a video can be a fun way to share answers to the most common questions about your event: When does registration begin? Where should they go and when? Are there any special hashtags or themes they should be aware of? Here’s another example you can make your own .

PRO TIP: Most attendees want to know the who, what, when, and where of an event. Make sure you answer questions about key details like venue, timing, and ticket pricing as promptly as possible.

If you’ve caught the video bug following your pre-event marketing, sharing a few videos during your event can be a fun way to keep the momentum going. Short videos for social media showcasing what’s going on during your event can serve a few purposes:

  • Help attendees share their experiences with their friends in real-time, which spreads the word about your event
  • Create organic marketing material that encourages shining testimonials from your guests
  • Inspire fear of missing out (FOMO) in those who couldn’t make the event, so they’ll prioritise the next one!

If it sounds like a lot of work to create videos during your event, remember that your attendees may be doing the legwork for you. Keep an eye on social media and look for videos posted on your event hashtag (if you’ve got one), tagging your event, or posted at the location of your event. Simply share these videos on your event social profiles (giving credit to the creator, of course).

PRO TIP: Hold on to the videos you share during your event. The footage you shoot could come in handy for event recaps or marketing for your next event.

Video can help your event live on, even after the attendees have gone home. Use video footage and photos you shot during the event or, as we mentioned above, bolster it with footage and photos shot by event attendees and shared to social media, to create a recap of what went down. It’ll give attendees the chance to relive the excitement and non-attendees the chance to peek at what they’re missing out on – and hopefully buy a ticket for the next event!

You can also repackage content from your event in video form. If you have performers, isolate individual performances and upload them to YouTube or share them on your social profiles. If you have speakers, edit their content to create educational videos.

Event recap video

Here’s an example of an event recap video created by Eventbrite organiser,  Like A Local Tours .

PRO TIP: When creating videos to share on social media, remember that timing is key. Make sure you post your content at the optimal time of day to improve engagement.

Still hunting down some event-teaser video ideas and other promo-video ideas to help level up your event? Check out the innovative ways that these three creators got the job done.

“ VHR is an international technical recruitment company. We use video to promote all the events we host, as well as vacancies and opportunities within the business. We find it to be a more engaging medium than others and allows us to communicate quickly and effectively, in places that we know our audience will be.

“We also filmed the event, live-streaming it to our audience via Facebook Live , which achieved 3,460 impressions and 111 engagements. We’ve also been able to utilise these videos as collateral post-event to engage with new and existing audiences.”

“The three main ways [ BlueSky PR ] uses video are: to promote events, as an enhancement to traditional blog content and as a social media teaser. However, our use of video is constantly expanding (such as documenting client case studies and testimonials) in line with the increasing popularity of video.

“We find that videos on social drive the most engagement in terms of event sign-ups – on Twitter, in particular, we have had a lot of success in achieving webinar signups from our teaser style videos . These are really quick and easy to create – I’m talking a matter of minutes – using a tool called Lumen5 .”

The Blues Kitchen

“[ The Blues Kitchen finds] video is generally the most effective way of selling tickets; a video can explain to people what the event is about without them having to read anything. Given how difficult it is to grab people’s attention on social media, if we can do this by posting a video it makes the job of selling tickets a lot easier.”

“When promoting well-known artists, a short clip of them performing always does well with audiences who know them. When we’re promoting, say, a Fleetwood Mac Special, we tend to convert old Fleetwood Mac footage into a promo video for the night.”

Take a look at some of the following ideas before you get started on the marketing plan for your next event.

1. The high-energy dance party video

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bollywood Party in Portland (@jaiho.portland)

The Jai Ho! video here conveys all the fun and sparkle of a Bollywood dance party . Recreate its success with similar snapshots of music and dancing, and make sure you know your best practices for increasing Instagram engagement .

2. The enticing food festival promo

One of the best event highlight video examples out there is this promo for the Tampa Bay Wine and Food Festival , which captures its audience’s attention with short, sweet, enticing clips of what its guests can expect of the event – and you can do the same by capturing the incredibly good eats from your foodie event on tape.

3. The atmospheric explainer video

The URUBU School of Transformational Arts explains ecstatic dance in this explainer video, which provides both helpful information on what it entails, and well-selected images of people enjoying a past event. Emulate its style by crafting a short elevator pitch on your event that pairs well with elements that translate well to video.

4. The panel talk trailer video

This Gold Beams video highlights some of the talking points on a panel it’s promoting and draws guests in with hints of key discussion topics that will be expanded upon at the event. Do the same for a similar event by listing your main discussion points and recording them in video format, so your guests know what to expect.

5. The invite from an influencer video

View this post on Instagram A post shared by SEED Plant-Based Food Festival (@seedfw)

SEED Food and Wine Festival does a great job of creating a video-style invitation with an enticing influencer collaboration. See if this approach is right for you by tracking metrics on working with influencers .

6. The class promo that makes you feel like you’re there

This Sound Off video artfully captures the vibe of the experiences with immersive videography effects. Replicate the same event video style by shooting clips from the perspective of an attendee, using sound mixing and camera angles to help viewers imagine themselves present in the same moment.

7. The emotive charity video

The two-day Festival of Urgent Reinventions uses a short, snappy video to capture some of the major issues facing the world today, which provokes a visceral response in the viewer with its heartfelt call to action. Show why your cause deserves attention by creating a promo along similar lines that tugs at people’s heartstrings and piques their interest in what you’re doing.

Now that you’ve got all the inspiration you need to build an amazing event video, it’s time to get your feet wet! Check out the full suite of Eventbrite’s marketing tools for creators to ensure that your next event is a hit.

OpenAI's big event: CTO Mira Murati announces GPT-4o, which gives ChatGPT a better voice and eyes

  • OpenAI's "Spring Update" revealed new updates to ChatGPT.
  • OpenAI CTO Mira Murati kicked off the event.
  • She announced GPT-4o, its next flagship AI model, with improved voice and vision capabilities.

Insider Today

OpenAI just took the wraps off a big new update to ChatGPT.

Cofounder and CEO Sam Altman had teased "new stuff" coming to ChatGPT and GPT-4 , the AI model that powers its chatbot, and told his followers to tune in Monday at 1 p.m. ET for its "Spring Update" to learn more.

Also ahead of time, Altman ruled that the event would reveal GPT-5 or a new OpenAI search engine, which is reportedly in the works. OpenAI is reportedly planning to eventually take on internet search giant Google with its own AI-powered search product.

But the big news on Monday was OpenAI's new flagship AI model, GPT-4o, which will be free to all users and "can reason across audio, vision, and text in real time." It was CTO Mira Murati who delivered the updates with no appearance on the livestream from Altman.

There were a ton of demos intended to demonstrate the real-time smarts of GPT-4o.

OpenAI researchers showed how the new ChatGPT can quickly translate speech and help with basic linear algebra using its visual capabilities. The use of the tech on school assignments has been a polarizing topic in education since it first launched.

OpenAI posted another example to X of how one can interact with the new ChatGPT bot. It resembled a video call, and it got pretty meta.

In the video, ChatGPT takes in the room around it, discerns it's a recording setup, figures it might have something to do with OpenAI since the user is wearing a hoodie, and then gets told that the announcement has to do with the AI — it is the AI. It reacts with a voice that sounds more emotive.

OpenAI also announced the desktop version of ChatGPT, and a new and improved user interface.

In addition to GPT-4o and ChatGPT, OpenAI's other products include its AI-powered image generator DALL-E , its unreleased text-to-video generator Sora , and its GPT app store.

You can catch up on our liveblog of the event below.

That’s a wrap! OpenAI concludes the event without an appearance from Altman.

OpenAI says text and image input for GPT-4o-powered ChatGPT is launching today. Meanwhile, voice and video options will drop in the coming weeks, the company said.

Although Altman didn't step in front of the camera, the CEO posted videos from the audience on X.

He also teases "more stuff to share soon."

GPT-4o can also break down charts

The new AI model can interact with code bases, the OpenAI execs say. The next demo shows it analyzing a chart from some data.

It's a plot of global temperatures. GPT-4o gives some takeaways from what it sees, and CTO Mira Murati asks about the Y axis, which the AI explains.

ChatGPT reads human emotions — with a stumble

event video presentation

For the last live demo of the day, Zoph holds his phone up to his face and asks ChatGPT to tell him how he looks. Initially, it identifies him as a "wooden surface" — a reference to an earlier photo he had shared.

But after a second try, the model gives a better answer.

"It looks like you're feeling pretty happy and cheerful," ChatGPT says, noting the small smile on Zoph's face.

In one of the final tests, ChatGPT becomes a translator

event video presentation

In response to a request from an X user, Murati speaks to ChatGPT in Italian.

In turn, the bot translates her query into English for Zoph and Chen.

"Mike, she wonders if whales could talk, what would they tell us?" she said in English after hearing Murati's Italian.

It's pretty impressive.

The video demo shows how it could help with math homework, including basic linear algebra

event video presentation

OpenAI Research Lead Barret Zoph walks through an equation on a whiteboard (3x+1=4), and ChatGPT gives him hints as he finds the value of x — making it basically a real-time math tutor.

At the beginning, the bot jumped the gun.

"Whoops, I got too excited," it said after it tried to solve the math problem hadn't been uploaded yet.

But it then walked him through each step, recognizing his written work as he tried to solve the equation.

It was able to recognize math symbols, and even a heart.

OpenAI's first demo: Talking to GPT-4o

It's demo time!

The new bot has a voice that sounds like an American female, but no word yet if you can change it.

OpenAI Research Lead Mark Chen pulled out ChatGPT on his phone and asks for advice on giving a live presentation using Voice Mode.

"Mark, you're not a vacuum cleaner," it responds when he hyperventilates, appearing to perceive his nervousness. It then tells him to moderate his breathing.

Some big changes, you can interrupt the AI now, and there shouldn't be the usual 2 or 3-second delay with GPT-4o.

It can also detect emotion, according to OpenAI.

GPT-4o will have improved voice capabilities

event video presentation

Murati emphasizes the necessity of safety with the real-time voice and audio capabilities of the new GPT-4o model.

She says OpenAI is "continuing our iterative deployment to bring all the capabilities to you."

Murati says the big news is a "new flagship model" called GPT-4o.

The new model is called GPT-4o, and Murati says that OpenAI is making a "huge step forward" with ease of use with the new model.

It's free for users, and "allows us to bring GPT-4 class intelligence to our free users," Murati says.

And we're off!

event video presentation

The livestream began with CTO Mira Murati at OpenAI's offices.

OpenAI is going to be announcing 3 things today, she says. "That's it."

For those who want to watch live, you can view the whole event here.

OpenAI will be livestreaming its spring update, which kicks off in less than an hour.

Axel Springer, Business Insider's parent company, has a global deal to allow OpenAI to train its models on its media brands' reporting.

Amazon Upfronts

Amazon Prime Video made its first upfront presentation to advertisers on Tuesday in New York, with the streamer bringing out some of its biggest stars to break some news while touting its original series, film and sports offerings.

Amazon took over Pier 36 in Manhattan, which included a large installation dedicated to Amazon shows like “Fallout” and “The Summer I Turned Pretty” as well as movies like “Road House” and their various sports offerings like “Thursday Night Football.”

Popular on Variety

Alicia Keys (making sure to promote her new skincare brand Keys Soulcare, available on Amazon Premium Beauty, naturally) opened the show with a medley of popular tunes, including “No One” and and “Empire State of Mind (Part II).”

Then Prime Video/Amazon MGM Studios senior VP Mike Hopkins welcomed the audience and gave his pitch. Amazon MGM Studios head Salke took the stage next and revealed several announcements while bringing a parade of stars to the stage.

Leading into the presentation, Amazon had already made a number of major news announcements, including: Nicolas Cage starring in their Spider-Man Noir live-action series ; “Mr. And Mrs. Smith” getting renewed for Season 2; “The Boys” getting renewed for Season 5; and the first teaser for the Alex Cross series .

SIGN UP for Variety’s free daily Upfronts newsletter

Also revealed: The stars and creator of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” made an appearance, announcing the third season of the YA series would not debut until 2025, but also that it would consist of 11 episodes instead of the seven for its first season and eight for its second.

That was all before Amazon got to their sports programming, including the upcoming debut of NASCAR on Prime Video on top of the streamer’s NFL presence. Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the stage to discuss the NASCAR coverage, which will include a docuseries about his father, racing legend Dale Earnhardt. Then tennis legend Roger Federer came out in support of his feature documentary “Roger Federer: 12 Final Days.”

The list goes on.

Amazon also continued the trend threading its way through this year’s upfronts — the prominent placement of movies. On top of Ferrell and Witherspoon’s presence for “You’re Cordially Invited” and Gyllenhaal for “Road House,” Ritchson talked up his upcoming holiday movie “The Man With the Bag” in which he co-stars with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Salke also mentioned upcoming Amazon originals like “Play Dirty” with Mark Wahlberg and the action comedy “Heads of State” starring Idris Elba, Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, and John Cena.

In the end, Salke saved one last surprise : Witherspoon came out again to reveal that a “ Legally Blonde ” prequel about the high school years of Elle Woods has been ordered to series at Prime Video. Currently titled “Elle,” the logline for the series states that it “follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first ‘Legally Blonde’ film.”

All in all, not a bad way to make your first upfront appearance.
