Introduction

What came first, a nation or a state? Let’s begin by defining two words. Nations are groups of people with similar customs, traditions, and cultures. The borders and territories of a country, or a state, are defined by its government.

J.K. Bluntschli, a German political scientist who wrote “The Theory of the State,” Bluntschli, that according to Bluntschli, every nation has eight idiosyncrasies. Four items I agree with are sharing a language, sharing a belief, sharing a culture, and sharing a custom.

By gradually uniting neighboring tribes through invasion, a much bigger nation emerged in history. Similar cultures and customs were gathered together through this process. As a result, languages became more similar, and habits and customs were assimilated as family with improvements.

15 August 1947 was the date on which India became independent from British rule. The culmination of our freedom struggle is being celebrated this year on the 76th anniversary. This year, we are commemorating the anniversary of this date, so let’s take a moment to reflect on its history and significance.

Almost two centuries have passed since the British ruled India, starting in 1757. During the years when poorna swaraj or complete independence from colonial rule was being demanded in the streets, the Indian independence movement had grown stronger and stronger.

A powerful freedom struggle could only have been possible with the rise of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. In the end, the British reclaimed power in India when they left.

A deadline of June 1948 was given to Lord Mountbatten, the Viceroy of India. The British, however, were forced to leave early by Mountbatten.

There were two weeks between the 4 July 1947 introduction of the Indian Independence Bill in the British House of Commons and its passage. A bill in the Indian Parliament declared the end of British rule on 15 August 1947. India and Pakistan were also established as independent nations as a result of it.

In 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru addressed the nation as India became an independent nation. The Indian tricolor is lowered at the Red Fort. The tradition has continued since then.

Conclusion,

On 14 August 1947, during his historic speech to the Constituent Assembly close to midnight, Nehru declared, “We have made a tryst with destiny. Now comes the time when we shall redeem that trust, not wholly nor entirely, but substantially. India will emerge from sleep and into life and independence.”

Around the country, cultural programs, flag-raising ceremonies, and other competitions are held every year to commemorate the day.

Under British rule, the lives of Indians were pitiful as they were treated in an inhumane manner. The Indian rulers were given no powers to take action and some rulers were also banished. Indian soldiers’ army was devastated and Indian farmers were charged heavy taxes on lands. Several farmers died out of hunger and poverty which was very pathetic. We must move forward with 'Nation First, Always First' mantra: PM Modi

The need of the nation is to unite and work towards national progress, Modi said

PTI

Stressing on 'Nation First, Always First' mantra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that as the country enters its 75th year of Independence, every citizen should lead a "Bharat Jodo Andolan" in the same manner as Mahatma Gandhi had led the "Bharat Chhoro Andolan".

In his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast, he noted that on the coming August 15 India will enter its 75th year of Independence and highlighted that Amrit Mahotsav is being celebrated throughout the country to mark that year.

The need of the nation is to unite and work towards national progress, Modi said.

"Just like Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) led the 'Bharat Chhoro Andolan' (Quit India movement), every Indian must lead the 'Bharat Jodo Andolan (Unite India Movement)'. It is our responsibility that we do our work in such a manner that it helps in uniting our country which is full of diversities ," Modi said.

"We have to move forward with Nation First, Always First," he asserted.

Many programmes in connection with Amrit Mahotsav are being run, the prime minister said, adding that the Ministry of Culture has started an initiative to have maximum number of Indians sing the national anthem together. For this, a website, rashtragan.in, too has been created .

"With the help of this website, you can render the national anthem and record it, thereby getting connected with the campaign. I hope you connect yourselves with this novel initiative. In the days to come, you will get to see many such campaigns and efforts," he said.

The prime minister urged people to keep encouraging and supporting Indian athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics.

He called on the people to support the Indian Olympics team on social media by joining the 'Victory Punch Campaign' which has already begun.

"You also share your victory punch along with your team and cheer for India," Modi said.

Noting that on July 26 the nation will mark Kargil Vijay Diwas, the prime minister asked people of the country to pay tributes to those who made our nation proud in 1999.

Talking about his Mann Ki Baat programme, he said it celebrates positivity and collectivity.

"I am unable to take up all the inputs I receive for Mann Ki Baat but I do forward many of them to government departments concerned, he said.

In the broadcast, he also cited a study done MyGov to highlight that out of those sending messages and suggestions for Mann Ki Baat close to 75 per cent are below the age of 35 years.

"I view this as a very good indicator. Mann Ki Baat is a medium which has positivity, sensitivity. In Mann Ki Baat, we talk about positive things; its character is collective," he said.

Independence Day is celebrated with pomp across the nation and Indians around the globe. It is a reminder of the struggles that won us our liberation from the British Raj after nearly two centuries, the sacrifices made by the leaders, the freedom fighters who laid their lives to win Independence, and more. As we near the date, here's all you need to know about this year's theme, history, significance, and celebrations

Independence day 2023 theme:.

This year, the theme for Independence Day is "Nation First, Always First". All Independence Day programmes and events will be based on this theme.

Independence Day 2023 History and Significance:

Led by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Independence movement began with World War I. On July 4, 1947, the Indian Independence Bill was introduced in the British House of Commons and was passed within a fortnight. On August 15, 1947, India marked its Independence as the 200-year-old British rule came to an end. Many leaders played a prominent role in the Indian freedom struggle, including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Subhas Chandra Bose, and many more.

Independence Day is a reminder of the many sacrifices and struggles made by the Indian freedom fighters to help the country achieve its freedom from the British Raj and why we should honour this Independence. The day also invokes feelings of patriotism for the nation and the willingness to serve the country and lead it to prosperity. It also creates a sense of unity and duty among citizens.

Independence Day 2023 Celebrations:

Independence Day is marked as a national holiday in India. Every year, the Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at Delhi's Red Fort and addresses the nation, followed by a military parade. On August 15, 1947, the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, raised the Indian national flag above the Lahori Gate of Red Fort in Delhi. Every Prime Minister has followed that tradition ever since.

People celebrate Independence Day by organising cultural activities in school, colleges and their workplaces, adorning these places in tricolour-ornaments and decorations, wearing tricolour-themed clothes , watching patriotic movies, listening to songs related to India's history and freedom struggle, and more.

Essay on Nation First, Always First

India’s independence, which came in 1947, was an important day in the history of the country. Since then, the country has accomplished a lot. People from all over the world are in awe of the progress that the country has made in the last 74 years. However, the journey has not been easy. It has been filled with a lot of struggle, hard work, and sacrifice. We have been through a lot, and the country has been through a lot. The theme of India’s 75th Independence Day celebrations will be ‘Nation First, Always First’. The country will celebrate its 75th year of Independence at Red Fort from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on August 15, 2021.

The theme of India’s 75th Independence Day celebration is apt for two reasons. One, we live in times that are filled with political and social discord. Two, we have seen how politicians have focussed more on their interests rather than that of the nation. This theme is apt because it is a reminder to us to always put the interest of the nation before our own.

Nation First, Always First means that we should be patriotic and not get swayed away by external forces who always try and disintegrate our nation. India is a diverse nation. It is made up of a variety of people with different languages, different cultures, different religions, and shows diversity in many ways. But we are all Indians at the end of the day. We are all part of the same whole. All Indians have the same set of values irrespective of the color of their skin, they all have the same respect for the country and its culture and they all want to see India progress and prosper.

Although India is one of the oldest civilizations in the world, it is a very young nation – a fact that we are reminded of every August 15. We are the world’s largest democracy and most diverse country. The diversity of our country is not just in numbers, but also in every aspect of our lives – from the architecture of our homes, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, our music, our literature, the movies we watch, the sports we play, the games we play and the languages we speak.

On August 15, 1947, India became an independent nation. The importance of the day is that it was on this day India became an independent nation. It was on this day that we, as a country, became free from the clutches of the British Raj. The day is a day to remember the sacrifices of those who fought for our freedom and sacrificed their lives for our independence. It is a day to remember those who put the nation always first.

We all know that India is a diverse country with many communities and languages. However, the fact that we were able to work together to fight for freedom and gain independence is something that binds us. We celebrate that unity every year on Independence Day. However, this year it is important to remember that following the current political climate, we should be aware of the threats that may try to pull us apart. It is very important that we remain united and not get swayed away by external forces who always try and talk us into believing that we are not one nation.

India is an ancient nation but it is also a new nation. We have to be more disciplined in what we do. We have to show those who are trying to break us into pieces that we are one and we will never give up that which we are. This is not an easy task but one that we have to fight for always and forever. When in dilemma, remember, "Nation First, Always First!".

The nation should always be first for us. We should never let individualism come in the way of the greater good of the nation at large. We should never let our personal interests come at the cost of the nation. This is the call of the hour and we should all pitch in and work towards the betterment of the nation. We should never let divisive forces come in the way of India’s progress. We should all be responsible citizens and ensure that we do not make decisions that would negatively impact the nation as a whole. No one is greater than the nation, and we should always strive to unite the nation.

We hope you enjoyed this article covering the importance of putting the nation first. There are so many issues that can divide us, but at the end of the day, the nation is what can bring us together. We are so grateful to live in a country where we can have the freedom to express our opinions. We hope that everyone continues to unite as one nation.
