People can also enjoy their time by sitting outside their homes. And castles make for a perfect summer day at the beach. When going to the pool, one will most likely find a suntan lotion dispenser. From late afternoon thunderstorms to s'mores by the campfire with friends and family, summers are a wonderful time of year filled with many different stereotypical memories that pop into mind as the word is spoken.

There are different seasons in a year, summer, monsoon, autumn, winter, and spring. With each season, we witness certain changes not only in our lives but also on our Earth. Seasons are reminders to us that change is inevitable. India is one of the few countries that experiences all six seasons in a year. They are summer, monsoon, autumn, pre-winter, winter, and spring. However, these seasons vary from region to region due to factors like latitude, longitude, topography, and environmental factors. As per the Hindu calendar, each season is divided into two months throughout the year.

The summer season is one of the main seasons in a tropical country like India. Summer sets in April and continues up to the end of July. Summer is usually associated with hot, dry weather. The days are longer, and the nights are shorter during this season. From late morning to midnight, heat persists during the summer months.

In the Hindu calendar, these months are called Jyeshta and Aashaadha. In India, since the tropic of cancer passes through the northern hemisphere, the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh experience the summer season. The temperature in some places increases up to 50o Celsius.

Disadvantages

The days become so hot and long that people suffer from terrible heat right from the morning till midnight. It becomes difficult for people to commute. Most people are spotted in light dresses, sunglasses, and sandals. On some days, a hot and dusty wind blows at noon and makes life more miserable. People prefer staying indoors. In the northern part of India, this wind is called 'Loo', and it is not safe to get exposed to this. In the daytime, the scorching heat of the sun affects normal life. The difficulties in this season are innumerable. Ponds and pools dry up. The water level in wells also goes down. A water crisis is felt almost everywhere. The absence of enough trees and persistent pollution aggravates the problems in summer. The weak and the old sometimes fall victim to sunstrokes in the hot sun. Birds and stray animals face lots of hardship, as they don't get sufficient water to drink. Many health issues like dysentery, dehydration, and diarrhoea are prevalent in this season. The towns and cities look deserted in the afternoons. Everything comes to a standstill during the day because of the simmering rays of the sun. The nights become pleasant, and most activities are done after the sunset during this season.

Besides the innumerable difficulties people face, it is the most awaited season, especially by the students. They get over with their final exams, and it is vacation time for them as well as their parents. They plan to visit their grandparents or places like hill stations to escape the heat. Some also go to the beaches, as they are very pleasant at night. Children take up many indoor activities. Swimming and other water sports are some favorite outdoor activities in this season, making it somewhat pleasant. Summer break for the students is a good time for learning various new activities. Most students go for summer camps at cooler places.

Various kinds of vegetation thrive around us. Many kinds of fruits and flowers are available in this season. Mango is the most dominant fruit of the summer season. Other fruits like jackfruits, guava, litchis, watermelons, and pineapples are available in plenty in the summer season.

We can see many beautiful animals and creatures thriving in our surroundings since they wake up from their hibernation.

Cold drinks, ice-creams, and watery fruit juices like grapes, cucumber, watermelon, are in high demand in this season. People prefer cold foods like kulfis, chilled juices, etc.

It is an important season for the farmers. They sow seeds for new crops because this climate is favorable for the cultivation of the crops. They sow Zaid crops like pumpkin, cucumber, and bitter gourd, etc.

Important festivals like Buddha Purnima, Rath yatra are celebrated during this season. Some more important festivals like Baisakhi, Ram Navami, Raja Parva, and Hanuman Jayanti are also celebrated.

The summer season, which is full of heat and dust, is a blessing in disguise. The scorching rays of the sun evaporate the water from all water bodies at this time, and this phenomenon gives way to the advent of the rainy season. The low pressure created over the landmass of India during this season is responsible for months-long monsoon rain.

Like all other seasons, summer has its own uniqueness. There are both advantages and disadvantages in this season but this season can be enjoyed to the fullest.

Benefits of eating seasonally

Good food and healthy eating both start with an essential element: quality ingredients—which typically include in-season foods. In this article, Rebekah Fedrowitz shares the benefits of eating seasonally in summer including what peak-season fruit and vegetables to look out for and some delicious summer recipes to get you started and tempt those taste buds.

The Benefits of Eating Seasonally Series: A Guide to Winter Nutrition (Part 4 of 4)

When I cook for people, whether as a guest in my home or as an attendee at a cooking class, I often hear comments like: “This is incredible—I don’t usually like this food.” Or “I wish I could cook like you. I would actually enjoy eating healthy.” While I appreciate the kind words, let me assure you I’m no James Beard. I don’t deserve awards or accolades for my innovative talents in the kitchen. My cooking is simple. Yet that’s exactly what makes it so appealing to people.

Good food and healthy eating both start with an essential element: quality ingredients. Mixing bad ingredients with a few herbs and spices or simply smothering them in a sauce will not lead to a satisfying and flavorful dish, not to mention one of any real nutritional quality. When we think of eating healthy, we often boil it down to mere science. We count grams of fat or carbs, food timing, fiber and sugar levels, or specific vitamins and minerals. Often we deconstruct food in such a way and focus solely on the science of nutrition . Yet by doing so we lose one of the most important elements of eating for health: flavor.

The Art of Eating Well

There’s an art to eating well, and it starts with using the best tasting, highest quality ingredients. This typically includes ‘in-season’ foods.

What does in-season really mean? Seasonal foods are those that are in their peak growing and harvest time during the present season. This will be dependent on your particular geographical area. I shared about the many benefits of eating in-season food in a previous article: “The Benefits of Eating Seasonally: A Guide to Spring Nutrition.” This focused on how eating seasonally includes superior taste, increased nutritional benefits, and lighter environmental load. Now, as we enter the summer months, let’s take a look at some of the common, and maybe a few not-so-common, foods of the season to tempt those taste buds.

SUMMER’S SEASONAL PRODUCE

Summer is truly the mecca of flavor and variety. It boasts the greatest volume of peak-season fruits and vegetables. Here are some key fruits, vegetables, and herbs that are at their best during the summer months.

  • Berries, berries, and more berries: Think blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, huckleberries, and even a few late varieties of strawberries. In the summer months, berries are in surplus. Their juicy sweetness knows no end to the variety of uses. Throw them into smoothies or on a salad. Use them to make a salad dressing, ice cream, or jams. Or just simply enjoy them fresh and raw.
  • Beans: This includes pole beans, like the common green beans, to many varieties of shelling beans like kidney, black, and lima beans. You can easily source beans in the summer months. Shelling beans are great for drying and storing for use year-round. But there’s nothing quite like the crisp flavor of a fresh, in-season green bean. Enjoy them sauteed or grilled, cooked and chilled for a salad. Or freeze them for use in the colder months.
  • Chard : This leafy green tolerates the heat better than most others and is at its peak in the summer months. It is usually labeled as Swiss Chard or Rainbow Chard. Sautee it alone or add to omelets, potatoes, and soups. Or even throw a handful of raw chard into your summer smoothie for extra nutrients.
  • Corn: A little sweet and a little savory, in-season corn definitely screams “summer!” When eaten fresh, this starchy vegetable is enjoyed both on and off the cob. It works well as a stand-alone ingredient as well as mixed in with numerous other foods. Corn kernels can easily be removed from the cob to be frozen whole or dried and used as a grain.
  • Cucumbers: The cooling nature of cucumbers makes them one of the quintessential summer foods. Technically a fruit, the versatile cucumber is great for snacking. It’s also good mixed into salads and other dishes. You can even add it to water for a refreshing treat, or use it as a cooling eye treatment for an at-home spa day.
  • Eggplant: These tend to be a hit or miss vegetable for many people. But eggplants can be a surprise favorite when enjoyed in the summertime. When out-of-season, picked before it’s ripe, and transported farther distances, eggplant can often be pithy and bitter. But in season, picked just at the perfect ripeness, and eaten within a few days makes all the difference. Eggplant can offer a savory flavor that may leave you wanting more. Roasted or grilled eggplant makes a great side or even a main vegetarian dish. Or add it to hummus for a baba ghanoush-inspired snack. And one added tip: Try and buy and store eggplant that’s been kept at room temperature. It’s not generally a fan of the cold, humid refrigerator.
  • Figs: The richness of figs is the perfect bookend to summer and introduction to fall. And it’s one of the fruits I look forward to most. With its somewhat recent revitalization, we no longer only think of this fruit dried inside of a folded cookie. We can also enjoy it raw as an appetizer or on salads. Try it cooked with meats, or in desserts. It pairs well with goat cheese, walnuts, leafy greens, and my personal favorite—in an olive oil ice cream.
  • Herbs: While not typically the star ingredient, herbs are the supporting characters that can make a dish shine. Fresh basil, thyme, rosemary, lavender, oregano, and so much more are available in the summer. So take advantage of these fresh herbs while you can. Chop to season and garnish dishes. Use in pesto or other sauces, freeze with olive oil in ice cube trays. Or infuse in water alone or with fruit.
  • Melons: Would summer be summer without watermelon? I think not! But other types of melons also abound this season. Cantaloupe, honeydew, and many new varieties are becoming more accessible. Of course, melon is amazing when enjoyed raw. But you may want to try grilling it, adding it to salads, or even making it into a cooling gazpacho.
  • Peppers: From sweet bell peppers to fiery habaneros, peppers love the heat. And they show their full color in the summer months. Green, yellow, orange, red, and purple. There’s a pepper for almost every color of the rainbow, which is indicative of their nutritional value. Slice and enjoy raw, sautee with other vegetables, or stuff and bake them, just to name a few uses.
  • Potatoes: Potatoes span the seasons. This starts with new potatoes in the spring and finishes the harvest in fall. Summer provides a mix of tender new potatoes along with some fully mature varieties. This gives us ample options for potato salads as well as grilled or baked potatoes.
  • Okra: While popular in the South , not everyone knows about or has had the pleasure of trying okra. These rocket-shaped pods are great grilled, in soups (especially gumbo), and pickled. Give them a try—they may surprise you.
  • Stone Fruits: From peaches and nectarines to plums and pluots, most stone fruits are at their best from mid-to-late summer. When ripe and ready, these fruits are some of the juiciest foods you will eat all summer. Take a bite into a southern peach or make a rustic tart with a juicy plum. Or slice a nectarine to add to a summer salad .
  • Summer Squash and Zucchini: The thin-skinned varieties of the squash family make their debut in the warm months. They are the perfect addition to many summer meals. Their uses are plentiful, from grilled or sauteed to baked or added to sweet breads. They also make a great addition to smoothies when pre-chopped and frozen. And don’t forget about their blossoms, which are delicious stuffed and served as a beautiful appetizer.
  • Tomatoes: Another versatile summer fruit (yes, a fruit, although typically served as a vegetable) are tomatoes. Small, cherry-sized varieties come early in the season and larger varieties arrive a little later. They are commonly added to mixed green salads or sauteed vegetable blends. They’re great too in dishes like salsa or pasta sauce. But let your imagination run wild with these. Add to a salad with watermelon or slice and serve with a pinch of good quality salt and olive oil. Roast them alongside chicken thighs, or add to savory scones, just to name a few ideas.

This is not an exhaustive list of all the produce you may find in the summer. So keep your eyes open and ask your local farmers or food experts for more ideas. In addition to the surplus of produce in peak season, there are outlying fruits and vegetables lingering from spring and debuting early for fall. This includes foods like beets, cherries, apples, pears, and grapes. There’s so much to choose from so you can enjoy maximum flavor and plenty of variety!

There’s an art to eating well, and it starts with using the best tasting, highest quality ingredients, which typically include ‘in-season’ foods. Rebekah Fedrowitz Tweet

WHERE AND HOW TO BUY

In-season produce is usually easy to find at your grocery stores and supermarkets, farmer’s markets, or through a local community-supported agriculture (CSA). Refer to my Guide to Spring Nutrition where I introduce the best options to buy.

When you’re buying your produce, remember to take the time to both look and smell. Does it look ripe, plump, and firm, or is it wilted, browning, and limp? Does it smell sweet and aromatic? Our eyes and nose are our best guide before we buy, and our taste is our guide thereafter. If we allow our senses to do the work they were created to do, we may just find ourselves eating in a more wholesome and delicious way.

RECIPES TO TRY

Learning about new foods to try can be exciting but also somewhat overwhelming. Most of us are so busy that we typically don’t have the time to research recipes for how to use new or in-season ingredients. I recommend you take it slow and do what feels manageable to you. To help with some inspiration, here are a few recipes you may want to try with some of these aforementioned delicious summer fruits and vegetables:

  • Tomato & Melon Salad
  • Grilled Summer Vegetables
  • Masala Grilled Vegetables
  • Potato Salad with Green Beans
  • Caribbean Style Okra
  • Cucumber & Peach Salad
  • Gluten-Free Berry Galette
  • Roasted Nectarines with Labneh, Herbs & Honey
  • Balsamic & Mustard Glazed Chicken Thighs & Figs
  • Blueberry-Balsamic Popsicles

Out of the four seasons of the year, summer is the warmest. It starts on the Summer Solstice day and finishes on the Autumnal Equinox day. Because the Southern and Northern Hemispheres are in opposite directions, it is winter when it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere. The season of extreme heat, dry weather, and intense monsoons contribute to growing death tolls. The high temperatures during this season allow the weather to warm up, which causes droughts with limited water supplies, scarcity, or complete water shortages in some areas. This season's sweltering weather, which causes issues for people and wildlife, is brought on by heat waves and temperature rises.

According to NASA, human-caused global warming is causing summertime temperatures to rise yearly. As a result, it is wise to drink plenty of water all season long. Advantages of Summer Season

Despite being hot and dusty, the summer is a blessing. All water bodies are evaporating due to the sun's harsh rays at this time, which allows the rainy season to start officially. The monsoon rains, which last for months, are caused by the low pressure that develops over India at this time.

Disadvantages of Summer Season

Most people are seen wearing light dresses, sandals, and sunglasses. A hot, dusty wind blows about noon and worsens things on certain days.

People experience severe heat from dawn till dusk since the days get so hot and long and find it more challenging to travel.

People prefer to stay inside. This wind, known as "Loo" in the northern region of India, is dangerous to be exposed to.

It's summer-that amazing time of year when fresh produce abounds. I love that there's an abundance of fresh, delicious and healthy choices. Better yet: many of summer's fruits and vegetables are brimming with secret health benefits. Here are some of my favorites and why they're a particularly good choice in the summer.

1. Watermelon

Staying hydrated keeps your memory sharp and your mood stable. It also helps keep your body cool (by sweating) during hot summer months. The good news is that you don't just have to drink water. You can eat it, too: in addition to delivering skin-protecting lycopene, watermelon is 92 percent water (hence the name). Another boon? Research shows that eating foods that are full of water helps keep you satisfied on fewer calories. (Interestingly enough, drinking water alongside foods doesn't have the same effect.)

Nothing says summer like fresh sweet corn. And did you know that two antioxidants-lutein and zeaxanthin-in corn may act like natural sunglasses, helping to form macular pigment that filters out some of the sun's damaging rays? It's true. The same antioxidants may also help lower your risk of developing age-related macular degeneration-the leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 60 (though much of the damage occurs decades earlier).

3. Tomatoes

There's no question that sunscreen should be your first line of defense against the blazing summer sun. But eating tomatoes could give you a little extra protection: consuming more lycopene-the carotenoid that makes tomatoes red-may protect your skin from sunburn. In one study, participants who were exposed to UV light had almost 50 percent less skin reddening after they ate 2 1/2 tablespoons of tomato paste (or drank about 1 2/3 cups of carrot juice daily), in addition to their regular diet, for 10 to 12 weeks. Supplements, however, weren't as effective: in the same study, those who received a lycopene supplement or synthetic lycopene weren't significantly protected against sunburn.

4. Blueberries

Fresh blueberries straight from the berry patch are a special treat! Turns out the antioxidants in them may help ward off muscle fatigue by mopping up the additional free radicals that muscles produce during exercise, according to recent research out of New Zealand.

5. Cherries

This summer enjoy both the sweet and tart varieties. Drinking tart cherry juice can help you get a better night's sleep and reduce post-workout pain. But did you know that compounds in tart cherries may also help you slim down and get leaner? The anthocyanins in tart cherries activate a molecule that helps rev up fat burning and decrease fat storage. Not to be outdone, sweet cherries are loaded with potassium, a natural blood-pressure reducer. Plus, sweet cherries are rich in beta carotene, vitamin C, anthocyanins and quercetin, which may work together synergistically to fight cancer.

6. Iced Coffee

An iced pick-me-up is a great way to start your summer mornings. Better yet: drinking a single cup of coffee daily may lower your risk of developing skin cancer. In one study of more than 93,000 women, published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention , those who drank one cup of caffeinated coffee a day reduced their risk of developing nonmelanoma skin cancer by about 10 percent. And the more they drank-up to about 6 cups or so per day-the lower their risk. Decaf didn't seem to offer the same protection.

7. Raspberries

Pictured Recipe: Muesli with Raspberries

Raspberries are a great source of fiber-some of it soluble in the form of pectin, which helps lower cholesterol. One cup of raspberries has 8 grams of fiber-and a study in the Journal of Nutrition suggests that eating more fiber may help prevent weight gain or even promote weight loss. Over the course of a two-year study, researchers found that when study participants boosted their fiber by 8 grams for every 1,000 calories, they lost about 4 1/2 pounds. Try it for yourself. If you're consuming 2,000 calories per day, aim to increase your fiber by 16 grams.

8. Iced Tea

Pictured Recipe: Peach Iced Tea

Sure, a tall glass of iced tea on a hot day is refreshing, but did you know it might also do your body good? Studies show if you drink tea regularly, you may lower your risk of Alzheimer's and diabetes, plus have healthier teeth and gums and stronger bones. How? Tea is rich in a class of antioxidants called flavonoids. Regardless of the variety-black, green, oolong, white or herbal-maximize the power of tea's flavonoids by drinking it freshly brewed. If you want to keep a batch of cold tea in your refrigerator, "add a little lemon juice," recommends Jeffrey Blumberg, Ph.D., director of the Antioxidants Research Laboratory at the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University in Boston. The citric acid and vitamin C in that squeeze of lemon-or lime, or orange-help preserve the flavonoids.

Why You Should Have a Fruit-Filled Summer

By Shivam Joshi, MD ,

If you’re like most Americans, you probably aren’t eating enough fruit: Americans eat a single serving of fruit per day, on average. In fact, only a small minority— 24 percent and 13 percent , respectively, of the population—are meeting the recommended minimum for fruit and vegetable consumption, which is between 5 and 9 servings per day. Low fruit consumption can increase your chances of dying, but eating even one additional serving can mitigate that, which is why we should all be eating more fruits this summer.

Summer picnics usually go hand-in-hand with hot dogs. But were you aware that processed meats can increase your risk of dying? Replacing bacon, hot dogs, and sausages with healthier options like fruits will help you avoid the toxic nitrosamines found in processed meats. And fruits contain antioxidants and phytonutrients—a win, win! Furthermore, the beneficial effects of fruits aren’t just limited to mortality; they have also been shown to help prevent and treat some of our most common diseases.

Whole Fruit Can Help You Avoid Heart Disease and Type 2 Diabetes

Several studies have shown that fruits have a dose-dependent relationship with the incidence of heart disease, meaning that those who eat more fruits have a lower risk of developing the condition. Fruits have been so effective in reducing heart disease that a whole province, North Karelia in Finland, embraced the idea by changing its dairy farms to berry farms to increase fruit consumption—and improve the health—of its citizens. By replacing animal-based foods with berries, along with other healthful changes, the region went from having one of the highest rates of heart disease in the world to one of the lowest within a generation.

Fruits have also helped patients all over the world lose weight and lower cholesterol . Fruits, contrary to popular belief, can also reduce your risk of developing diabetes . I often hear of patients who avoid eating fruits because of the sugar content, but these patients could not be more mistaken. While fruits do contain sugar, they have not been shown to worsen existing diabetes when consumed in their entirety, as opposed to being consumed as a juice, which concentrates the sugar to high levels. Fruit juice can increase body weight and the risk of diabetes . In contrast, the fiber content in whole fruit offers a protective effect by slowing digestion and absorbing the sugar load. In fact, fruits have recently been shown to be beneficial for people with diabetes. Eating fruits is healthy for people both with and without chronic illnesses, but unfortunately, too many people don’t eat enough of them.

Fruit Is Health Food, So Eat Generously

I, too, was once guilty of only eating just a single piece of fruit per day. When I was a child, my favorite fruit was the banana, and I would eat a single banana every day, perhaps like many of you. After eating my daily banana, I thought I had fulfilled my daily need for fruit, and the idea of eating more than one banana per day was almost heretical. But I was wrong. The adage “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” should not be taken literally. Eating multiple servings of the same fruit is both safe and encouraged! Scientific studies have shown that eating 20 servings of fruit daily is safe, and even more fruits could be consumed since there is likely no upper limit to healthy fruit consumption. I now eat several bananas in one sitting.

Another major reason I hear people cite for not eating fruits is their perceived lack of fun when compared to a prepared dessert, for example. In fact, fruits can be extraordinarily fun to prepare, present, and eat. A berry medley, peach cobbler , and a fruit salad are all great options for an outdoor picnic. In terms of fruit variety, there’s no better season than summer, with its bountiful array of choices like plump apricots, decadent cherries, ripe peaches, succulent nectarines, juicy melons, and sweet berries of all sorts.

Eating a single fruit a day leaves a lot of healthful opportunities still on the table, both figuratively and literally. With so many easy options to have fun and be healthy with fruits, there is no reason to hold back from eating more of them this summer. What are you waiting for?

Essay on Summer Season

Essay generator.

The summer season, characterized by its warm weather and longer days, is a period of vibrancy and vitality that affects life on Earth in profound ways. This essay delves into the essence of the summer season, exploring its impact on the natural environment, human activities, and the cultural significance it holds across various communities, especially for students in the United States who are keen on understanding and writing about this luminous time of the year.

Summer is one of the four temperate seasons, marking the transition from spring to autumn. In the Northern Hemisphere, it spans from June to August, while in the Southern Hemisphere, it occurs from December to February. This season is primarily associated with warm to hot weather, extended daylight hours, and a flourishing of flora and fauna. Summer’s onset is heralded by the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, which is a significant astronomical event celebrated in many cultures.

Impact on the Natural Environment

Flourishing of flora and fauna.

Summer brings about a transformation in the natural landscape. Trees and plants, which have been dormant during the cold months, burst into life, displaying lush foliage and vibrant flowers. This season is crucial for the growth cycle of many species, providing optimal conditions for photosynthesis, the process by which plants produce energy. The abundance of plant life, in turn, supports a wider ecosystem, including insects, birds, and mammals, which thrive on the availability of food and favorable living conditions.

Climate and Weather Patterns

The weather during summer can range from pleasantly warm to intensely hot, depending on the geographical location. Regions closer to the equator experience higher temperatures and humidity, while coastal areas might enjoy cooler breezes. This season is also marked by various weather phenomena, such as thunderstorms, hurricanes, and monsoons in certain parts of the world, shaped by the complex interplay of atmospheric conditions.

Human Activities and Lifestyle Changes

Leisure and recreation.

Summer is synonymous with vacation, leisure, and outdoor activities. With schools and universities on break, it is a time for travel, exploration, and relaxation. Families often take holidays, visiting beaches, mountains, and national parks. Activities such as swimming, hiking, and camping become popular, taking advantage of the favorable weather. Summer camps and workshops offer children and adolescents opportunities for learning and personal development outside the traditional classroom setting.

Agricultural Significance

For agricultural communities, summer is a busy season of growth and cultivation. It is a critical time for planting and tending to crops that will be harvested in the fall. The warm weather accelerates the growth of many plants, making it essential for farmers to manage their fields carefully to ensure a bountiful harvest.

Cultural Festivals and Celebrations

Summer is a season rich with cultural significance and festivity. Many communities across the globe celebrate summer solstice festivals, which often have ancient roots and traditions. In the United States, the Fourth of July, or Independence Day, is a major summer holiday characterized by fireworks, parades, and barbecues, commemorating the nation’s history and values.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages of Summer Season:

  • Warm Weather: The most obvious advantage of summer is the warm and pleasant weather. It provides an opportunity for people to enjoy the outdoors, go to the beach, have picnics, and engage in various recreational activities.
  • Sunshine: Summer offers abundant sunshine, which is essential for the body’s production of vitamin D. Sunlight can also improve mood and mental well-being.
  • Outdoor Activities: Summer is the perfect time for outdoor sports and activities like swimming, hiking, camping, biking, and playing sports like baseball, soccer, and tennis.
  • Vacations: Many people take advantage of the summer season to go on vacations, explore new places, and spend quality time with family and friends.
  • Gardening: Gardening enthusiasts thrive in the summer season as it provides ideal conditions for planting and growing a wide variety of flowers, fruits, and vegetables.
  • Festivals and Events: Summer is the season of festivals and events, offering opportunities to celebrate cultural, music, food, and art festivals in many parts of the world.
  • Extended Daylight: Longer daylight hours mean more time for outdoor activities, extended evenings, and an overall boost in productivity.
  • Fresh Produce: Summer is the season for fresh and locally grown fruits and vegetables, making it a great time to enjoy a healthy diet.

Disadvantages of Summer Season:

  • High Temperatures: While warm weather can be enjoyable, excessive heat can be uncomfortable and even dangerous, leading to heat-related illnesses like heatstroke and heat exhaustion.
  • Dehydration: Hot weather can lead to increased water loss through perspiration, which requires people to stay hydrated by drinking more water.
  • Sunburn and Skin Issues: Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause sunburn, premature aging of the skin, and increase the risk of skin cancer. Skin protection is essential during the summer.
  • Insect Pests: Summer is a season when various insects and pests are more active, potentially leading to annoyance and the need for pest control measures.
  • Allergies: Pollen levels tend to be high during the summer, triggering allergies in some individuals, leading to symptoms like sneezing, congestion, and itchy eyes.
  • Increased Energy Costs: Running air conditioning and fans to stay cool in the summer can lead to higher energy bills, especially in regions with extreme heat.
  • Crowds and Traffic: Popular vacation destinations can become crowded during the summer months, leading to traffic congestion and long lines at tourist attractions.
  • Difficulty Sleeping: Hot summer nights can make it challenging to get a good night’s sleep, leading to discomfort and fatigue.

Health and Well-being

Benefits of sunlight.

Summer’s ample sunlight provides essential vitamin D, beneficial for bone health and immune function. The longer days encourage people to spend more time outdoors, promoting physical activity and mental well-being. However, it is crucial to balance sun exposure with proper protection to prevent skin damage and heat-related illnesses.

Challenges and Precautions

The heat of summer also poses health risks, such as dehydration, heatstroke, and sunburn. It is essential to stay hydrated, wear protective clothing, and use sunscreen to mitigate these risks. Especially in regions experiencing extreme heatwaves, taking precautions to stay cool is vital for health and safety.

Educational Opportunities

Learning and exploration.

Summer offers a unique opportunity for educational exploration outside the traditional academic calendar. Many students engage in internships, volunteer work, or research projects, allowing them to apply their knowledge in practical settings and gain valuable experience. Libraries and museums often host summer programs, encouraging continued learning and intellectual engagement.

The Value of Rest and Reflection

Additionally, summer provides a chance for students to rest and reflect on their academic and personal growth. This break from the structured demands of school can be a crucial period for rejuvenation and setting goals for the future.

Environmental Considerations

Sustainability and conservation.

The season’s increased energy consumption, due to air conditioning and travel, highlights the importance of sustainability and conservation. Summer serves as a reminder of the need to protect our natural environment and consider our impact on the planet.

The summer season, with its warm weather and extended daylight, profoundly influences the natural world and human life. It is a time of growth, vitality, and celebration, offering opportunities for leisure, learning, and personal development. However, it also poses challenges that require attention and care. As we embrace the joys and activities of summer, it is essential to do so with a sense of responsibility towards our health and the environment. For students and participants in essay writing competitions, understanding the multifaceted aspects of summer not only enriches their writing but also deepens their appreciation for this vibrant season.

September 23, 2020 by Study Mentor 3 Comments

India is a tropical country that has a variety of seasons. The hottest and most important of them is the Summer Season. Most parts of India face scorching sun and heat waves during this season. Even in most of the parts, the temperature can cross 40 degrees. The South part of India is the hottest region of India.

Apart from the heat, the summer season brings a lot of occasions to celebrate as well. It starts in March and ends in June with the end of summer vacations in most of the schools.

Table of Contents

Summer Season Essay – 1

People prefer wearing light-colored cotton clothes. These clothes help in maintaining the temperature of the body, and they absorb the body sweat as well. In summer the days are longer than the nights.

We need to take care of our health in the summer season. It is advised to drink a lot of water and eat healthy food. We should also limit the use of oil in our diet. Lack of water in the body can result in feeling tired and dizziness.

It is also the season of fruits. Mango, watermelon, papaya, guava are all available in the summer season.

There are various seasons in a year, summer, storm, harvest time, winter, and spring. With each season, we witness certain progressions in our lives as well as on our Earth. Seasons are suggestions to us that change is unavoidable. India is one of only a handful of exceptional nations that encounters each of the six seasons in a year. They are summer, storm, fall, pre winter, and spring. In any case, these seasons differ from one area to another because of components like scope, longitude, geography, and ecological variables. According to the Hindu schedule, each season is partitioned into two months consistently.

Importance Of Summer

  •  It provides us food – summer is an essential season because this season helps the farmers to grow food crops, especially the Rabi crops. They plant these crops in the spring season, but their growth is fast in the summer month.
  • Construction sites – construction and renovation of buildings and roads are more accessible as the cement and paints dry faster due to the heat of the sun.
  • Family and leisure times – This is also the season to enjoy as the schools and colleges announce Summer vacations of two months. The families and children wait for this time the whole year so that they can visit their village or go on tour out of the station. Students also enroll themselves in internships or skill development courses to increase their experiences and knowledge.
  • It is the best time for detoxification. The body precipitates and cleans all the unwanted excretion materials.

According to one survey done in India, the second-deadliest heatwave occurred in April and May of 2015, which resulted in deaths of over 2,000 people.

Effects Of Summer Season – Effects on the human body –

Increased body temperature can cause sweating, dizziness, weak pulse, nausea, cramps and clammy skins, and tanning as well.

  • Several studies show that as the temperature climbs, we perform slowly and inaccurately on cognitive tests. It affects everyone, from students to adults.
  • High temperatures can also cause heat strokes.
  • Air pollution also increases due to heat, and the quality of air gets worse, which makes it hard to breathe sometimes.
  • High temperature causes rashes and allergies, and asthma patients are also advised to take care of them as it can get worse in summer.
  • Many people die due to dehydration, especially those living on the streets.
  • People doing exercise should drink more and more water in summer.

Effects on plants life and animals

  • the hot dry season is rough on plants
  • hot air decreases moisture from the environment
  • Exposure to the direct sunlight can cause leaves to turn yellowish-brown
  • The high temperature in summer can also invite drought in some areas.
  • Many birds and stray animals die due to the excess heat and lack of availability of water and food. They have to search harder for it.

Festivals During Summers

The following festivals are celebrated in the summer –

  • Mahavira Jayanti
  • Chithirai festival

Summer activities for children

Effects On The Indian Poor In Summer-

The temperature in summer is very high, but it only affects the lower class of society like the poor and the homeless. They suffer the most as they don’t have shelters, and they have to work hard in the scorching heat. It is the reason they fall sick so quickly, and in severe conditions, they can die as well.

Life is not easy for them, because they lack water, electricity and health care facilities. More exposure to the sun can cause kidney disease, micronutrient deficiencies, and more cognitive damage.

This season can be enjoyed by taking precautions. It is the season of holidays and festivals as it spreads joy and brings prosperity. We should complain less and enjoy our time with family and friends.

Summer is also suitable for learning good habits and new skills which will benefit you for your whole life. Summer is also an excellent time to explore other cities and countries and make memories for ourselves.

Summer is also considered as the best time to lose some body fat. Many people start dieting in the summer by cutting out oil and sugar entirely from their food and prefer eating raw vegetables and fruits. They not only help to maintain water in the body but provide essential nutrients as well.

As summer is a difficult time for everyone, we should keep food and water for the animals and birds on our terrace and also outside our home. We can also build a small house for them where they can live and protect themselves from the heat of the scorching sun.

Summer Season – Essay 2

Summer season is one of the four seasons that occur on the Earth. It is the hottest of all the season and comes after spring leading to autumn. Usually, it starts from March, and extends till late September. The beginning of Holi usually marks the onset on the Summer season.

The sun rays glisten like powdered gold and the world smells of joy. It ends with the onset of monsoons and heavy rains. Summers brings about different kind of imagery in the mind’s eye. Summer means joy; summer means warmth, summers means blossoms.

Science of Summer Season

Summer season is caused because of the tilt of the earth. These tilt was supposedly caused because of an asteroid hitting the earth and slanting it 23.5 degrees away from its axis. On the course of revolution of the earth, when the tilted side is closer to the Sun, we experience summer, marked by a significant surge in the atmospheric temperature.

During this period of equinox; the Sun positions itself directly over the Equator. The days become longer while shortening the nights. This season also accommodates the longest day on the year (longest duration of daylight from sunrise to sunset).

  • Because of the temperature, Summer season is ideal for flaunting a variety of bright and colourful dresses of our choice. It gives us the freedom of wearing comfortable and loose clothing because of the prevailing temperatures.
  • And finally there is nothing more pleasurable than spending lazy summer afternoons sitting on the ground, eyeing the beautiful sunset while gorging on to our favourite ice creams and cold-drinks.

Inconveniences during summer season

summer season is one of the greatest of all seasons and gives us immense avenues of enjoyment. However, just like everything in the world, it too has a few disadvantages.

  • Summer season being the warmest of all seasons, brings with it various warm and dry local winds like ‘Loo’ which is extremely harmful for children and adults and can induce sickness and tiredness.
  • Because of surging temperatures coupled with the ill effects global warming , surface temperatures often go beyond tolerable crossing over 50 degree centigrade in some parts of India. This causes tremendous inconvenience to people and many even fall victim to sunburn and dehydration. Therefore it is always advisable to smear sunscreen before going out in the sun. Drinking adequate amount of water is also extremely important. We should drink at least 2.5-3 liters of water a day during hot summer.
  • Warm temperatures are extremely favorable to pathogens and pests, thus during this period, incidents of infliction of pathogenic diseases are extremely common.
  • During the Summer season, snakes and frogs and various other hazardous animals come out of hibernation.
  • Because high temperature also favours growth of various bacteria, foods get stale very easily during summer.
  • Due to extreme heat, mirage occurs on road and can cause major accidents.

Summer season is my favourite season of all four seasons. It is related to numerous memories of my childhood and each year during summer; all those memories come back to me in a magically nostalgic experience that cannot be described by words.

No tongue in the world has words with the audacity to be able to enumerate those joyous Summer afternoons of playing with friends; those tiring sweaty days that ended with cold sugary drinks; those lazy warm afternoons that made us sit indoors and drool on storybooks; jumping into the cold water pond with friends for bathing; those long evenings of fishing with father and cursing the fishing for not picking the line; all of these experiences is what that has brought this bright sunny season closest to my heart.

Every summer of my life is clearly etched in my memory and each of these passing summers keep me anticipated for the next year.To end, I would use these marvelous words of Neruda which aptly describes summer:

“ Green was the silence, wet was the light;  the month of June trembled like a butterfly. ”

The Summer Seasonal Fruits & Veggie Guide

write an essay about summer season duration fruits foods benefits

2. It's Cheaper!

Think back to your economic days, when supply goes up, price goes down—and summer produce is no exception. If you are working to a food budget—this is especially helpful for families—eating seasonally can dramatically reduce your grocery bill .

3. Nourishing Nutrients

Fruit and vegetables contain the greatest number of nutrients when they are allowed to ripen naturally. For instance, watermelon sold in winter has often been picked early then frozen or chilled to prevent it ripening too quickly. Nutrients degrade with heat and light—and you can tell, they just don’t taste as good out of season.

We know through studies conducted on supermarket produce that one week after harvest, many fruits and vegetables have lost up to 80% of their nutrient levels .

The benefits of food rich in nutrients and antioxidants

Have you heard of free radicals and oxidative stress? Our favourite example of oxidative stress is when an apple goes brown after being cut in half and exposed to oxygen—oxygen pulls the electrons from the apple, causing damage. It's exactly the same in the body. Free radicals (or oxygen molecules) enter the body and act as scavengers, stealing electrons from your healthy molecules and causing damage at a cellular level and inflammation

The more stress we are under, UV ray exposure we have and chemicals and environmental toxins we are exposed to, the more antioxidants our body needs to offset this damage and the more nutrients it needs to function well.

Given the high demand stress and modern living places on us it is vital we get as many nutrients as possible from our food sources . This is especially important in summer when we have long sunny days and little ozone layer protection.

Eating with the summer season

From plums and peaches, to slices of watermelon, to strawberry picking, it’s often easier (and more enjoyable!) to eat fruits in summer. This aligns with our natural more active movement patterns and longer daylight hours.

When it’s warmer outside, we are often more active, spend time at the beach or going for walks after dinner. Fruit is an easily digestible - and delicious - form of energy to fuel this activity. It is, of course, always best to be mindful as fruit does contain naturally occurring sugars and eating large amounts in a sitting can cause your blood sugar levels.

During these warmer months, it is the ideal time for crunchy, cooling foods, like raw salads and eating fruit straight from the tree—as opposed to winter when our digestion needs a rest . If you find raw food too hard on your gut, lightly steaming or sautéing your veggies as well as using them in fresh salads will keep you energised and nourished.

To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of the fruits and veggies that are in season during summer:

Seasonal Summer Vegetables

  • Courgettes (Zucchini)
  • New season potatoes
  • Asparagus (Late Spring / Early Summer)
  • Broad Beans
  • Iceberg Lettuce
  • Cos Lettuce
  • Spring onion

Seasonal Summer Fruits

  • Blackberries
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Raspberries
  • Sweet Navel Oranges

For an extra dose of antioxidants—at any time of the year—try adding a scoop of BePure Collagen+ .  Don't forget antioxidants are degraded by heat and light, so Collagen+ is best suited to your morning smoothie or iced beverage.

The Weather changes throughout the year bringing different seasons. The summer season is considered the hottest season of the year. Many natural activities take place in the summer season such as the evaporation of water, the melting of snow etc.

In this post, we will write an essay on the summer season for students and children.

Introduction

The summer season is associated with hot weather, dry air and intense sunlight. It becomes so difficult to go out in the afternoon. This season reminds us of the importance of water when we go outside in the daytime. Hence, people usually go out in the evening or at night.

In contrast, it is the most interesting and enjoyable season. Due to summer vacations, kids enjoy this season to the fullest as they get a chance to go on a picnic and visit their relatives. Apart from that, the summer season offers us a variety of fruits and vegetables to relish.

Essay on summer season- Introduction

Features of Summer Season

During this season, Days become warmer and longer while nights become cooler and shorter. The process of evaporation starts from the water bodies, which act as a preparation for the monsoon. Winds turn so hot that can cause you severe illness.

The scorching sun exhausts our energy. The shade of the trees gives relief to the travellers. It is difficult to stay at home in the absence of electricity. Thus, this season makes us aware of the importance of water, trees and energy.

Crops, fruits & Vegetables

The summer season brings various fruits and vegetables. Mangoes. Muskmelons and Watermelons are the fruits that dominate the fruit market. Fruit chaat, Fruit juices, Lemonade, Aam Panna, Jaljeera Pani and Sugarcane juice become my favourite daytime snacks.

If we talk about vegetables; Brinjal, Cucumber, Bottle guard, Pumpkin, Bitter guard, White onions, Tomatoes, Spinach, Beans etc.

It is a crucial season for the farmers. They sow seeds for new crops because this climate is favourable for the cultivation of some specific crops.

How Do people enjoy Summers?

Different people enjoy summers in their own way. Schools get shut down so kids and children get a summer vacation. During summer vacations, children go for picnics and to visit their grandparents’ villages.

Apart from that, Many children pursue their hobbies like playing indoor games, reading comics, learning a new skill etc. Be it a kid or an adult you can find them playing Ludo, Snake and Ladder, Carroms, and Chess in the summer season.

Adults make tour plans in the summer season. They usually prefer to visit cool and hydrating places. At home, they relish many soothing foods and drinks like Lassies, Serbat, Ice pops, Ice creams, cold drinks etc.

Disadvantages & Precautions

Due to too much hotness, people have to face dehydration. The dry environment grabs all the moisture from our bodies so we need to drink water frequently. Another bad thing, too much sweat causes the body to odour badly and it makes people uncomfortable in the public.

Additionally, Body rashes, itching and other skin problems start to occur. We must keep some important points in mind. First, we should bathe daily and keep proper hygiene of our bodies. Second, wear light, washed clothes made from cotton. Third, we must bring a water bottle wherever we go.

To sum it up, the summer season has some advantages and some disadvantages but we can enjoy summer by avoiding its negative aspects. If you keep an optimistic approach, you can take out the highest benefits of summer and can enjoy the same to the fullest.

With the mercury reaching an all-time high, the sweltering heat and dry hot winds require that you make changes in your diet for your body to cope with the high temperatures.

Extreme temperatures and dry conditions cause a number of heat related health problems and staying fit in summer is everybody’s primary concern. Importance of Diet During Summer

Fruits are nature’s gift, packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber. They come in various shapes, sizes, and colors, each having its unique taste and benefits.

Types of Fruits

Fruits are categorized into different types like citrus, berries, melons, and tropical fruits. Citrus fruits include oranges and lemons, known for their vitamin C content.

Health Benefits

Fruits are essential for a healthy lifestyle. They help in digestion, boost immunity, and provide necessary nutrients to our body.

Incorporating a variety of fruits in our diet is crucial. They not only enhance our health but also add a burst of flavor to our meals.

250 Words Essay on Fruit

Fruits, nature’s candy, serve as an essential part of our diet. They are the mature ovaries of flowering plants, packed with nutrients, fibers, and antioxidants. Their vibrant colors, diverse textures, and tantalizing flavors have made them a universal favorite.

Nutritional Value

Fruits provide a wide array of vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamin C from citrus fruits and potassium from bananas. They are rich in dietary fiber that aids in digestion and helps maintain a healthy weight. Additionally, fruits are low in calories and sodium, making them a healthy choice for those monitoring their dietary intake.

The health benefits of fruits are numerous. They aid in preventing vitamin deficiency diseases, improve digestion, boost heart health, and improve skin tone and texture. Some fruits, like blueberries and pomegranates, are packed with antioxidants that help fight off free radicals, reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

Environmental Impact

Fruit cultivation also has a significant environmental impact. It contributes to maintaining biodiversity as many birds and insects feed on fruits. However, the use of pesticides and extensive farming practices can lead to environmental degradation. Hence, sustainable fruit farming is crucial.

In conclusion, fruits are an indispensable part of a balanced diet. Their consumption offers numerous health benefits while their cultivation plays a significant role in the ecosystem. However, it’s essential to promote sustainable farming practices to minimize the environmental impact. Therefore, fruits not only nourish our bodies but also symbolize the intricate relationship between humans and nature.

500 Words Essay on Fruit

They are nature’s candy, packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and a host of other beneficial compounds. Fruits are not just a food group; they represent a fascinating spectrum of botanical diversity and have significant ecological, economic, and cultural implications.

Botanical Importance of Fruit

In botanical terms, a fruit is a mature ovary of a flowering plant, typically containing seeds. It is an essential part of the plant’s reproductive system, facilitating seed dispersal. Some fruits, such as apples and oranges, are fleshy and sweet, attracting animals that eat them and disperse the seeds. Others, like the maple’s samaras or the dandelion’s pappus, are designed to be carried by the wind.

Nutritional Value and Health Benefits

Fruits are a powerhouse of nutrition. They are typically low in calories and high in fiber, which aids in digestion and helps maintain a healthy weight. They are rich in vitamins and minerals essential for the functioning of the human body. For instance, citrus fruits are high in vitamin C, which boosts the immune system, while bananas are a good source of potassium, beneficial for heart health.

Moreover, fruits are packed with antioxidants, substances that protect our bodies from oxidative stress and inflammation. These antioxidants have been linked to a reduced risk of many diseases, including heart disease and certain types of cancer. The diverse array of phytochemicals found in fruits also contributes to their health benefits, with research suggesting potential anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and neuroprotective effects.

Economic Significance

Fruits also have considerable economic significance. They are a critical component of the global food industry, with fruit farming and the production of fruit-based products providing employment for millions of people worldwide. Some countries, such as Spain and the United States, are significant fruit exporters, contributing to their economies.

Cultural Significance

Fruits have long held cultural significance in societies around the world. They feature in myths, folklore, and religious traditions, symbolizing everything from fertility and abundance to wisdom and temptation. In modern times, they continue to be a part of celebrations and rituals, and they even inspire art, literature, and design.

In conclusion, fruits are much more than just a tasty and healthy food choice. They are an integral part of the botanical world, playing a key role in plant reproduction. They are a vital component of our diet, offering a wealth of nutritional benefits. Economically, they provide livelihoods for millions, and culturally, they hold deep symbolic meanings.
