The 10 best PowerPoint Games to play in Workshops, Classrooms & Presentations

In our last blog post, we talked about tools and tips on how to boost the audience engagement in your presentation. One of our recommended ways to do so was to play games, as they release tension and function as a fun element that lightens the mood. That’s why today we are going to list the Top 10 best games to play in your presentation.

1. Would you rather

Is it a game that everyone knows already? Probably. But did we have to include it on the list because it is just perfect for playing with your audience? Definitely. The game is pretty much self-explanatory – You give your attendees two (or more) scenarios and they have to choose which one they’d rather experience. Combining the Would you rather – question with your presentation topic is usually very easy, but we also thought of some questions you could use for any topic (e.g. as an icebreaker, to get to know your audience a little better, to ask about their opinion or just as a fun element in between). You can let your audience vote by letting them raise their hands or by using an interactive poll tool such as SlideLizard .

Prepare a few cards that have words related to your presentation’s topic on them, let some volunteers in your audience draw and act them out. The rest of the audience has to guess the word. You can be sure that these terms and the associated performances will never be forgotten!

Small Trivia quizzes are perfect for checking and manifesting the audience’s knowledge at the end of your presentation. Instead of repeating and summing up what you have already said, you can let your participants test their knowledge right away. However, you can also use a quiz in the beginning to test your audience’s existing knowledge about a topic. But there are not only trivia quizzes: Questions about personality can also be interesting and work well as an ice breaker in the beginning. Again, we recommend a tool for poll creation, as that is the easiest way to conduct quizzes. PowerPoint can be used for way more than most people know. Even we were amazed by people on the internet who created extensive games by animating content using PP. 5. Two Truths and a Lie

Here is another game that is just perfect when you play it with interactive poll tools. It is great for getting the audience to know you as a presenter better. Think of a fun, interesting or astonishing fact about yourself, and then invent two fake ones. Your attendees have to vote which statement they think is true. Be prepared to see some very surprised faces in your audience!

6. PowerPoint Karaoke

PowerPoint-Karaoke is the perfect improvisation game. Players are confronted with a set of slides they have never seen before and try to give a presentation as convincingly as possible. 7. Where do you stand?

For the game “Where do you stand?”, your attendees will actually have to stand up. Therefore, it is only convenient if you have enough space. If you want to get your participant’s opinion about something and get them to move a little, look no further! Create an imaginary line across the room. One end stands for one opinion, the other end for the exact opposite opinion. Your attendees can now place themselves on this line wherever they like (right in the middle, on either end or somewhere in between). You can then even interview people on the line (it is always interesting to choose two from opposite sites) and learn about their views. If you’re a little overwhelmed now, here are some examples you could use for this game:

Attention – you can of course ask about political or more controversial topics, but that may escalate and turn into a fight, which is not the purpose of the game or your presentation.

8. Describe That

Let your audience draw from cards with words on them and then describe it for the other attendees. It is basically like charades, but with words instead of acting. Some may find that too easy. In that case, you can either choose terms that are extremely hard to describe or add some “Taboo-words” to the card that can’t be used for describing.

9. True and False

Have you ever heard a crazy, bizarre fact where you didn’t think that it could be true? Perfect. You can use it in the well-known “True and False”-Game. You pick out a fact (ideally something related to your presentation topic) and then let your audience vote (you know – via an interactive poll tool like SlideLizard ) if they think it’s true or not. A tip for making statements false: Change little things about the them, like numbers, dates or names or use common misconceptions and see how many of your attendees buy into them, e.g. “Bulls are enraged by the color red” (which is false, bulls are simply enraged by movement, not specific colors).

10. The never-ending sentence

The never-ending sentence is a great game that incorporates many of your attendees and awakens their brain cells. It is perfect for keeping up their engagement and interest, especially for long presentations or workshops when you feel like some people are getting a little tired. Simply start by saying a word – it can be related to the presentation’s topic if you want – and ask a person in your audience to repeat that word and add another one – the next person to repeat those two words and add another one as well , and so on, until a sentence forms. As it gets longer the game gets a lot more difficult, because there is a lot more to remember and to repeat. The sentence can’t be ended, it has to be continued until someone makes a mistake (or until the last person in the room has added a new word). We promise that you will be left with a lot of fun, creative, and straight-up weird sentences that will make your audience laugh a lot.

Definition of Computer Games • A game is structured playing, usually undertaken for enjoyment and sometimes used as an educational tool. • Key components of games are goals, rules, challenge, and interaction. • Games generally involve mental or physical stimulation, and often both.

Adventure Games • solving logical puzzles to progress though a virtual world • Like dora the explorer, go diego go, etc

Puzzle Games • such as Tetris, Sudoku, etc

Simulation games • Online Simulation games are games focusing on realism. These games force players to understand and remember complex principles and relations. • Like coffee shops, shopping city, etc

Sports games • Table tennis, football, cricket, etc

role-playing games • in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting, or through a process of structured decision-making or character development.

Action and Fighting Games

Bad Effects of Action and Fighting games on Children The child is in control of the violence and experiences the violence in his own eyes (killings, kicking, stabbing and shooting).  • Games are blamed on the violence they contain. • Children who play more violent games are more likely to have increased aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors • In many games, kids are rewarded for being more violent.

Bad Effects of games Too much video game playing makes kids socially isolated.  Also, they may spend less time in other activities such as doing homework, reading, sports, and interacting with the family and friends.   Games can confuse reality and fantasy. Some games teach kids the wrong values.  Violent behavior, vengeance and aggression are rewarded. Academic achievement may be negatively related to over-all time spent playing games. When playing online, kids can pick up bad language and behavior from other people, and may make kid vulnerable to online dangers.

Studies shows……. • Studies have shown that the more time a kid spends playing video games, the poorer is his performance in school.  (Anderson & Dill, 2000; Gentile, Lynch & Walsh, 2004) • A study by the Minneapolis-based National Institute for Media and the Family suggests that video games can be addictive for kids, and that the kids' addiction to video games increases their depression and anxiety levels. Addicted kids also exhibit social phobias. Not surprisingly, kids addicted to video games see their school performance suffer.

Some Good things about Games Video games give child’s brain a real workout.  In many video games, the skills required to win involve abstract and high level thinking.  These skills are not even taught at school.  Some of the mental skills trained by video games include:   • Problemsolving and logic  • Reasoned judgments • Hand-eye coordination • Following instructions

Multitasking, simultaneous tracking of many shifting variables and managing multiple objectives. • Resource management and logistics. • Developing reading • Quick thinking, making fast analysis and decisions. • Again and again trying • Pattern recognition • Estimating skills • Memory

Recommendation for Games Monitor video game play the same way you need to monitor television and other media. Limit the amount of time they could play and also used the video game ratings to limit the content of the games have children who do better in school and also get into fewer fights. Monitor the effect of video games on the child.  Observe his behavior.  If it appears that he is becoming more aggressive playing violent games, stop him from playing the games.  If he becomes interested in playing historical games, then the game is beneficial to him.

What to look for in choosing a game • Decide what is acceptable in your home and if you think violent games are not acceptable, explain to your kid the reason why it might be bad for him. • Check the Ratings of the game before you buy it or allow your kid to play it.  Check its rating which is indicated in the box.  Note the title and cover picture.  If they have themes of sex and/or violence, then these themes are in the game.  If possible, be familiar with the game or read its reviews in the internet.  Sometimes, the “bad” part of the game is hidden in the higher levels.  Do not neglect supervising your kid as a parent. • Consider your child’s maturity level to determine which games are suitable for him.  Chronological age is not necessarily a measure of maturity.

Tips on managing child's media consumption Because of the popularity of video games, completely eliminating them from child's life might be difficult. But you can decrease the negative impact. Here are a few tips: • Know the rating of the video games that a child plays . • Do not install video game equipment in child's bedroom. • Set limits on how often and how long child is allowed to play video games. • Take the time to discuss with your children the games they are playing. Ask your children how they feel about what they observe in these games.

Which games conferences are occurring in June 2024?

Summer Game Fest 2024 is now the major gaming presentation of June after the announcement of E3's death last year.

It's not the only gaming showcase running this June though. Nintendo, Ubisoft and Xbox all have presentations planned for the weeks following Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest . You'll also be able to get a look at upcoming indie titles thanks to the Access-Ability Summer Showcase and Wholesome Direct among others, and that's before we get to the other staples of the gaming conference season such as IGN Live and the PC Gaming Show.

Below you'll find a complete Summer Game Fest 2024 conference schedule as we know it so far, running in chronological order and including all of the shows which have been announced at time of writing. We'll also be regularly updating it with confirmed dates, times and additional events if they're announced.

With E3 confined to the eternal crypts , the Summer Game Fest Opening Showcase is now the main gaming presentation for, well, the summer. (Well done Geoff... You won...) Alongside it, there's a host of other presentations, such as an Xbox Games Showcase and Wholesome Direct, running throughout June. All of which will give you a good idea of what games are on the horizon!

At the time of writing, it's important to note we're still waiting on date and time confirmations for a number of showcases. This includes the upcoming June Nintendo Direct. We have included these presentations on the schedule below to ensure you have a good idea of what's coming and we'll update this page once these dates are announced.

Announced just one day before its broadcast , the summer 2024 PlayStation State of play will last at least half an hour, and cover "PS5 and PS VR2 titles, plus a look at PlayStation Studios games arriving later this year". A total of 14 titles will be shown off during the stream that will be broadcast on YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok.

Let the Sony speculation commence! We wouldn't be surprised if God of War: Ragnarök's PC port was dated, seeing as leaker billbil_kun on X recently hinted it "will be announced very soon". Billbil-kun also recently claimed a new Astro bot game was set to be revealed soon.

Marvelous will be broadcasting their own 30-minute showcase about their upcoming PC, mobile and arcade games. You can watch it on YouTube , with EN, DE, FR, and ES subs. While the publisher did not specify any particular games it would be announcing or providing updates on, there's speculation that we might get a look at a new Daemon x Machina game, and the latest entry in their Rune Factory series.

If you're excited about the upcoming Silent Hill games, then you'll want to tune into Konami's dedicated Silent Hill Transmission broadcast on YouTube this Thursday. While we were perhaps expecting news about the Silent Hill 2 Remake to appear in, say, Sony's currently unannounced State of Play showcase, it looks like Konami are getting their foot in the door early with their own stream.

It won't just be Silent Hill 2 news that will be in the Transmission either, as it also promises a look at the upcoming film, merch and updates on the other announced Silent Hill games too.

The Guerrilla Collective Online Showcase can be watched on both YouTube and Twitch .

This showcase promises to bring a selection of new game reveals, trailers, interesting announcements and reveals, including taking a look at the gameplay for upcoming titles. While we don't know what games will be shown in the presentation at the time of writing, The MIX, who are in partnership with Guerrilla Collective, website lists titles like Until Then, Squirrel with a Gun and Undead West. Many of these titles were also shown during the Spring Games Showcase back in March 2024, so hopefully this is our chance to learn more about them.

IGN Live - Friday 7th June until Sunday 9th June

IGN are holding a three-day live event in LA to coincide with Summer Game Fest this year. The in-person fan event will unveil a wide array of pop culture news across games, film, TV and more, including a sitdown with Xbox boss Phil Spencer, the head of Team Sonic, and former Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor director Stig Asmussen. There will also be over 100 playable games and demos at the event, and you can check out the full schedule on their website.

The Access-Ability Summer Showcase 2024 spotlights games, both recently released and upcoming, created by disabled developers. It will also take a look at accessibility settings and design choices crafted to help more disabled players enjoy games. Eurogamer found last year's Access-Ability to be a vital addition to the Summer Game Fest season , so it's definitely worth tuning in.

This showcase will be available on Twitch and YouTube , with American Sign Language, British Sign Language and Audio Described versions premiering at the same time.

Hosted by Laura Kate Dale, accessibility consultant and host of the weekly Access-Ability show on YouTube , the show will include exclusive trailers, release date and discussion about new gameplay features. It's already been confirmed that titles from Whitethorn Games, PlayTonic and Fiction Factory Games will be making an appearance, but there's sure to be other surprises! This includes a selection of special guests, with Arevya and SightlessKombat already confirmed.

The show will, once again, be two hours long. (Snacks are a must.) During this time, there will be a selection of world premieres and special guests who'll hopefully be able to say their piece without being drowned out by music.

There will be more than 55 partners appearing in this year's Summer Game Fest and, similar to 2023, Geoff Keighley recently posted the first list of partners on his X account . This list includes Annapurna Interactive, Bandai Namco, Capcom, Devolver Digital, PlayStation, Sega, Ubisoft and Xbox among many others. Just like 2023, the Day of The Devs 2024: Summer Game Fest Edition will immediately follow the Summer Game Fest 2024 Opening Showcase. It will be broadcasted over the same YouTube and Twitch channels, so there's no need to cross streams!

It's important to note that the start times listed above are based upon the estimated end-time of the Summer Game Fest 2024 Opening Showcase. Since that showcase is roughly two hours long, you can expect Day of the Devs to begin two hours after Summer Game Fest 2024. Technically difficulties do happen though, so there's always a chance it might start a little later.

The Day of The Devs showcases focus on indie titles and is run by a now fully independent non-profit organisation going under the same name. We don't know which games will be showcased at the time of writing, but we do know there will be some very interesting titles. If you'd like an idea of what kind of titles might make an appearance, take a look at our roundup for the Day of the Devs The Game Awards showcase . The official Day of the Devs website also lists all the games they showcase at various events , such as GDC. This year's GDC includes Simpler Times, Cataclismo and Hyper Light Breaker among others.

This year's Devolver Direct is also the 15th birthday party for Volvy - everyone's favourite mascot known for his big hand. For gaming. The 20 minute long party is sure to bring Devolver's traditional brand of fun as we all give Volvy a massive cheer, alongside game reveals, release dates and updates.

V-tuber Melios the Andriod will be hosting the show, which promises to bring an array of launch annoucements from developers like Trinket Studios, Texel Raptor, Mighty Yell and Studio Pixel Punk. The Wholesome Direct shines a light on games with intricate storytelling, beautiful art design and unique gameplay. Last year's Wholesome Direct took a look at Venba, Kamaeru and Toasterball among many others. According to the official Wholesome Games X account, nearly 800 games were submitted for this year's showcase so there's certainly going to be some hidden gems on display!

The Latin American Games Showcase spotlights games developed in the LATAM Region and by Latin Americans around the globe. You can watch it on YouTube and Twitch .

The showcase will take a look at over 70 games, including a selection of world premiers and exclusive announcements. The previous showcase back in October 2023 included Mariachi Legends, Bem Feito and A Tiny Sticker Tale among others.

Thanks to PCGamer , we know that this year's showcase will take a look at over 40 upcoming games across both PC and consoles.

The Xbox Games Showcase returns for Summer Games Fest once again and, like last year, it's divided into two halves. It will be broadcasted on YouTube and Twitch , with an American Sign Language version on the Xbox ASL Twitch channel .

Thanks to Xbox Wire , we know the first part of the showcase will focus on games from Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda, Xbox Game Studios and third-party partners. When it comes to exactly which games will be shown, there's a chance we'll see Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the Shattered Space expansion for Starfield and a look at Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. (Whether the Fable reboot will make an appearance is yet to be seen.) According to The Verge's Tom Warren , who cites 'sources familiar with [Microsoft's] plan', we will also get a look at the next instalment in the Gears of War series, which Gears studio, The Coalition, have been working on .

On Thursday 23rd May, Xbox Wire also confirmed that the second part of the showcase, formally titled [REDACTED], was all about Black Ops 6 in an update to the showcase's annoucement. Thanks to an announcement from Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo president, posted on the official Nintendo Corporate X account, we know there will be a Nintendo Direct sometime in June. At the time of writing, the exact date and time for this Direct are yet to be revealed, but we'll update this page once they are.

As usual, you'll be able to watch this Nintendo Direct on YouTube and Twitch .

It's important to note that while Furukawa's statement included a mention of the Switch 2 , it will not be discussed during June's Direct. Though it is nice to know that the Switch's successor isn't just a product of our collective imagination with this post being the first time Nintendo has officially discussed it . (Let's be honest, dropping the news this way is a very Nintendo move.) Earlier this year, Eurogamer sources did confirm that the Switch 2 is on track for a 2025 launch so hopefully we'll finally get a look at the console before this year is out.

Meet Project G-Assist, Nvidia’s AI vision for the ultimate gaming sidekick

Y es, it’s true: That old AI gaming assistant April Fools’ joke that Nvidia made all the way back in 2017 is now reality. Well, kinda. And if Nvidia’s plans come to fruition, it could make your favorite PC gaming forums and wikis obsolete.

During its Computex keynote, Nvidia revealed “Project G-Assist” for the creation of customizable AI assistants for PC gamers, running on GeForce graphics cards . These AI assistants can be tuned to help you in specific games, providing detailed information about your personal adventures while reacting to on-screen events. They can also analyze and tune your entire gaming PC on the fly.

Ever wondered “What the hell is that??!!” when confronted by a snarling new alien menace in a game? G-Assist can tell you—and not just that, but also the optimal build for your character path if you’d like. It can then overclock your GPU to speed up performance, all without ever needing to leave your game.

Nvidia’s Project G-Assist is the ultimate gaming sidekick

Project G-Assist is the codename for a series of AI technologies and frameworks provided by Nvidia, with several new tools revealed for developers at the show. These capabilities monitor your gaming inputs (including on-screen information), process those inputs through a large language model (AI) with specifically trained data sets helped by other tools, then feed you the information you’re looking for in real time.

Anyone can use these tools however they see fit to create their own gaming assistants. The sky is the limit here. Nvidia provided two AI assistant concepts to show off G-Assist’s potential in eye-opening ways.

First, Nvidia created an Ark: Survival Ascended demo that shows how powerful these tools can be when they’re integrated by game developers and trained on a deep data set for that specific game.

It’s actually remarkable. Via a floating text field, you can ask the AI assistant what the best early weapons are, skill recommendations for your particular character build, help with problems, and more. It’s like having the world’s most knowledgeable wiki author riding shotgun with you, and you never have to alt-tab out to find the crucial info you need.

It’s a compelling vision—and it’s aided by computer vision, remember. In the demo, the protagonist asked “What is that thing?” while looking at a dinosaur and was promptly told that it’s most likely a titansaur, “[which] can be identified by its massive size and long neck.”

It’s easy to imagine enthusiast communities training their own AI assistants to provide tailored experiences for their favorite games, or developers providing help bots for new players, or an all-encompassing assistant trained on the top wikis to help in any game.

We’ll have to see if that dream winds up being reality, though. This all looks fantastic in theory, but Nvidia releases a lot of impressive tech demos and not all of them wind up being embraced by the community.

HAL, overclock my PC

But G-Assist’s potential isn’t limited to the act of playing games alone. Nvidia also showed off another G-Assist bot designed to help PC players tune their settings on the fly while tooling around in Cyberpunk 2077 .

It was able to change options when asked to optimize the settings for image quality. It also suggested enabling Nvidia Reflex to reduce latency due to the system’s measurements at the time.

And when asked to provide a latency graph for the last 60 seconds, it popped one up immediately. That’s potentially a very helpful capability when you’re troubleshooting problems or trying to improve your responsiveness in-game.

Heck, it even initiated Nvidia’s one-click overclocking feature on command, complete with information about the GPU’s old and new clock speed measurements.

There’s a lot of promise here, and G-Assist showcases what’s possible with AI when you have a full-fat graphics card by your side. You won’t see GPU-less Copilot+ laptops pulling off capabilities like this, this fast, while actively gaming , on an NPU anytime soon. AMD Zen 5: Everything we know about AMD’s next-gen CPUs

AMD Zen 5 is the next-generation Ryzen CPU architecture for Team Red. And after a major showing at Computex 2024 , it’s ready for a July launch. AMD promises major performance advantages for the new architecture that will give it a big leap in performance in gaming and productivity tasks, and the company also claims it will have major leads over Intel’s top 14th-generation alternatives.

We’ll need to wait for the release to know for sure how these chips perform, but here’s what we know about Zen 5 so far.

AMD confirmed in January 2024 that it was on track to launch Zen 5 sometime in the “second half of the year,” and backed that up at its Computex 2024 showing, where it promised the first four chips from the Ryzen 9000 generation will launch in July. That will be the Ryzen 9 9950X, the Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X. Additional non-X and X3D variants are expected in the months that follow.

This was a surprise early release and seems likely to be an effort to get ahead of Intel, which is slated to debut its Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake CPUs much later in the year. It also gives AMD a chance to get its CPUs into the new breed of “AI” laptops that many major manufacturers are pushing.

AMD detailed the specifications of the four new Ryzen 9000 processors at Computex 2024, showcasing comparable core counts and clock speeds to the previous generation, while claiming inter-process communication (IPC) uplifts from the new architectural design.

These specs are very comparable to their Ryzen 7000 equivalents, with the same cache quantities, thread counts, and clock speeds. What is different this time around, is power draw. While the top-tier 9950X still has the same 170-watt thermal design power (TDP) of its 7950X predecessor, the other CPUs require far less.

The 7900X was a 170W TDP component, but the new 9900X pulls a mere 120W, and both the 9700X and 9600X are just 65W chips. While the power draw figures may be a little higher in real-world use, this is a notable improvement over their last-generation counterparts, and shows a big uplift in efficiency for the new Zen 5 design.

Unlike Intel’s upcoming Arrow Lake CPUs, AMD has maintained simultaneous multithreading with Zen 5, and has made major improvements in branch prediction accuracy and latency to help improve overall multi-threading performance.

AMD has confirmed that its Zen 5 processors feature the RDNA 3.5 graphics architecture, which should mean even more capable onboard graphics than we saw with Ryzen 7000 CPUs. It’s not likely to be a huge upgrade, but considering we had perfectly passable performance for casual gaming on Zen 4, any upgrade is welcome. Ryzen 8000 APUs are already trying to hammer in the last nails of the entry-level graphics coffin. RDNA 3.5 on Zen 5 will only continue that trend.

One of the greatest strengths of AMD’s Ryzen processors since their first generation has been in their upgradability. While Intel has typically offered fans two and occasionally three generations of support for any socket design, AMD’s Ryzen platform has been far more expansive. Anyone who bought a high-end motherboard from the Ryzen 1000 generation was able to simply plug in an AMD Ryzen 3000 or even 5000 CPU with a few BIOS updates and continue with the same memory, power, and everything else.

AMD is looking to replicate this with its AM5 socket, which debuted with Ryzen 7000 CPUs in the fall of 2022. Zen 5 uses the same AM5 socket as Zen 4, meaning not only will coolers be compatible, but CPUs will be too. Anyone with an existing X670E, X670, or B650 motherboard should be able to drop in a Zen 5 CPU and receive most of the benefits of the new generation as soon as they are available — though a BIOS update may be necessary.

AMD announced the first two new motherboard chipsets for Ryzen 9000 at Computex 2024, detailing the new x870 and x870E chipsets. Both bring USB4 support as standard, as well as PCI Express 5.0 for both graphics and storage slots. Higher memory frequencies are supported, too, potentially unlocking even greater performance for the next-gen CPUs.

AMD has announced some first-party performance numbers for Zen 5, and they are impressive. These numbers are only from its top-tier Ryzen 9 9950X CPU, and are mostly compared to Intel’s best, but they are impressive so far.

AMD’s Zen 5 CPUs will reportedly enjoy an average instructions per clock increase of 16%, though that can be as much as 35% in certain applications. That ultimately leads to some big increases in productivity performance, with AMD citing numbers as high as a 56% lead against the 14900K in Blender.

That goes for gaming, too, where the 9950X reportedly beats the 14900K (which is roughly comparable to the 7800X3D and 7950X3D ), by between 4% and 23%. Local-run AI like the Mistral large language model (LLM) are shown running faster on the new Ryzen CPUs, too.

While we’ll need to wait to test these chips ourselves to know how good they really are, the early numbers look very good indeed.

AMD’s Zen 5 is shaping up to be a major launch for Team Red, and it’s gotten out ahead of the competition by a number of months. With Intel not slated to launch its Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake processors until much later this year, we may have several months of AMD absolutely dominating before Intel can swing back. It no doubt will, but can it do so hard enough?

AMD has shown with Zen 5 that it has the potential to be the performance and efficiency leader in productivity and gaming. That’s if it turns out to be true, but AMD’s first-party numbers have been historically relatively accurate compared to the real deal. We already knew that AMD would launch its Zen 5 CPUs this year, but recent motherboard updates hint that a release is imminent. Both MSI and Asus have released updates for their 600-series motherboards that explicitly add support for "next-generation AMD Ryzen processors," setting the stage for AMD's next-gen CPUs.

This saga started a few days ago when hardware leaker 9550pro spotted an MSI BIOS update, which they shared on X (formerly Twitter). Since then, Asus has followed suit with BIOS updates of its own featuring a new AMD Generic Encapsulated Software Architecture (AGESA) -- the firmware responsible for starting the CPU -- that brings support for next-gen CPUs (spotted by VideoCardz).

AMD's got plenty of top-notch processors in the Ryzen 7000 lineup, but it still hasn't given up on last-gen chips, as evidenced by its latest announcement. The company unveiled several new CPUs during an event in China, and while we'd largely expect AM5 chips at this point, we're also seeing the previously unannounced Ryzen 5000XT series. This is good news for those who are still using AM4 motherboards and want to upgrade, but the details are scarce right now.

A leaked slide, which comes from frequent hardware leaker HXL on X andwas showcased by AMD at the event, shows us a couple of new Ryzen 8000 CPUs alongside the Ryzen 5000XT. There are also mentions of CPUs that are already out on the market, such as the recently launched Ryzen 5 5600GT and Ryzen 5 5500GT, as well as older chips from the Ryzen 3000-series and the Athlon 3000G.

Intel's freshly released Core i9-14900KS processor is advertised as the fastest CPU in the world, but does that mean AMD can never hope to compete, even with its flagship Ryzen 9 7950X3D? Not at all. Each CPU has its merits, and both are insanely powerful in their own right. At this price point and at this performance level, making the right choice is tricky.

A new “ Astro Bot ” game will be launching on PlayStation 5 on Sept. 6, Sony’s PlayStation revealed Thursday during its virtual “State of Play” presentation featuring upcoming titles.

Per PlayStation’s description, “In this brand-new game, you will explore six galaxies and over 80 levels in search of Astro’s scattered crew. Hold on tight to your Dual Speeder and dive down to each unique planet, from lush forests, sandy beaches, hot volcanoes to more surprising locations such as a gigantic hourglass or the canopy of a singing tree!”
