Applications for admission to master’s and doctoral qualifications for the 2025 academic year (some exceptions apply) open from September 2024 to November 2024.

Registrations will be open by the following dates: January 2025- March 2025 (approved applicants & re-registering students)

Unisa Application Fee For LLM 2025/2026

Pay the online application fee of R135,00 once you have received your Unisa student number.

Please note:

The application fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa or do not qualify for admission to Unisa.
Use the student number you receive from Unisa AND the application fee reference number (eg STUDENT NUMBER 5370810030).
Send your proof of payment to [email protected]
Visit www.unisa.ac.za/paymentinfo for Unisa’s payment methods and banking details.

An application for a student number does not constitute an application for admission. After you receive your student number, you must still complete the online application for the admission process and upload the compulsory supporting documents.

Unisa Application Requirements For LLM 2025/2026

If you are applying for admission into LLM programmes, you should be providing the following documents:

A South African LLB degree
A foreign LLB degree of minimum 4 years duration
A Postgraduate Diploma in Law on NQF level 8
A foreign LLB degree of a minimum 3 years duration and 4 LLB modules selected from the NQF level 8 modules in the LLB degree of which one must be the compulsory research module
A foreign LLM. All students with foreign qualifications, including those with qualifications from African countries, must have their qualifications evaluated at SAQA. (www.saqa.org.za)
In addition to the above requirements, applicants must submit a transcript or an academic record. Candidates may also apply for admission via RPL.
Admission to the Master’s programme is also based on the availability of adequate supervisory capacity and research expertise in the discipline or department.

How Long Is Unisa LLM Courses 2025/2026

A student registered for a 180-credit structured coursework master’s degree must complete the study programme within three years. A student may make an application to the Registrar for one additional year of study. The Registrar will consult with the Executive Dean of the College in which the student is registered.

Prescribed student fees per year: master's degrees

Minimum amount payable at registration, coursework examination modules, research proposal module and mini-dissertation.

A minimum fee amount is payable by the closing date for registration for each module for which you register, as well as the outstanding balance by the relevant due dates.

Research master's degrees

From 2023, the research proposal is no longer a stand-alone module. The research proposal is now incorporated into the dissertation. Students register directly for the dissertation. From 2024, research master's students may now pay their fees in three instalments. Registration will be activated on receipt of the initial minimum payment. The outstanding balances must be paid by the relevant due dates in order to avoid financial cancellation. All fees must be paid into the Unisa official bank account with the correct reference number or else the university will not be able to process your registration before the relevant closing date. In the case where a letter from an employer / sponsor confirming that they assume responsibility for payment is supplied, the university can provide the employer / sponsor with a quotation.

Registration will only be activated upon receipt of the minimum payment by the relevant closing date. Compulsory miscellaneous fees , where applicable, are also payable on registration. These include the levy for students in foreign countries. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that the sponsor pays the fees on time. No late payments will be accepted. It is advisable for a student to pay his / her own fees and claim it back from the sponsor.
