Best known for Top Gear and The Grand Tour, Jeremy Clarkson took a step out of his comfort zone for his new series on Amazon Prime.

Clarkson's Farm, which started last week, sees the motoring menace aim to run his Cotswolds farm, which he bought in 2008, for a year, ably assisted by his Irish girlfriend Lisa Hogan.

Hogan herself is a former artist and model and has had a number of acting roles over her career.

Born in Dublin , Hogan studied at Alexandra College before getting a break in the acting industry after being spotted by former Monty Python star John Cleese.

She and Clarkson seem to be quite happy, with the pair regularly posting pictures on social media, and being caught in a PDA last week.

When did they start a relationship?

Clarkson and Hogan starting dating in 2017. The pair live in a cottage.

Earlier this year, Clarkson opened up on his grand plans for romance on Valentine's Day being scuppered by Covid-19.

He wrote in his column with The Sun: “I’ve always been a bit useless when it comes to Valentine’s Day but I did promise the other half last year that 2021 would be different.

“We’d go to London to do some shopping and then, I’d put on a suit and take her out for a romantic champagne dinner in a snazzy restaurant.

“Sadly, the pandemic has put paid to all that so, instead, I guess we’ll have to stay at home and watch the football.”

Family ties

Lisa is the step-daughter of Raymond Keaveney, former director of the National Gallery in Dublin, who is married to her mother, Arlene Hogan.

She shares three children with her former husband Baron Steven Bentinck, who is the nephew of Baron Heini von Thyssen - a Madrid-based billionaire.

Dicing with death in plane crash

Back in 1996, Hogan, then aged 25, was involved in a near-death experience when a plane she was on tore through an airfield fence and crashed into a van on a busy dual carriageway near London.

Hogan, the only passenger at the time, was flying into the capital city in order to rehearse for her role in Fierce Creatures .

Life on the farm

Speaking to BT ahead of the launch of Clarkson's Farm, Hogan said: “I have ended up learning a lot, largely as Jeremy didn’t have a clue and I’m quite practical."

Clarkson added: “She does work her socks off, she’s there in the shop now. I think she’s really enjoying doing that, because she’s even less of a country girl than I am – though she’ll probably say different.

“She was born in Dublin and has lived in Switzerland, Majorca, and London... and yet there she is with her filthy Doc Martens on, stomping around, running that farm shop and loving it.”

Once the wife of a multi-millionaire baron and a successful actress after being taken under the wing of Monty Python legend John Cleese, Lisa Hogan has lived and travelled all over the world.

But these days the Dublin-born former model and artist, 51, spends most of her time gallivanting around fields in muddy boots and running the shop on boyfriend Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds.

It was Lisa who, due to the pandemic, ended up filming much of Clarkson's Farm, the new Amazon Prime series which documents the ex-Top Gear presenter's frequently failed attempts to run his 1,000-acre farm, much to the bemusement and exasperation of the locals. 

Mother-of-three Lisa is 10 years younger than twice-divorced Clarkson, 61, whom she has been dating since 2017, but almost matches him in height at a statuesque 6ft 2in beside his 6ft 5in frame. And if you thought Clarkson had led a colourful life, his girlfriend's is equally as eventful. 

Educated at the prestigious Alexandra College in Ireland, she got her big break in acting in the early 1990s, when John Cleese employed her as a researcher. She was later cast as a sea lion keeper in the 1997 comedy flick Fierce Creatures, starring alongside Cleese, Michael Palin and Jamie Lee Curtis.

She was once referred to as Cleese's muse, but denied any suggestion they were romantically involved, telling Irish Independent journalist Barry Egan: 'We certainly didn't have an affair. We were seen quite a lot but we used to work together. We got on well.' 

In August 1997, Lisa - then aged 25 - had a near-death experience when her partner's £1million private Lear jet crash-landed on the A40 dual-carriageway after it overshot the runway at RAF Northolt in London.

Lisa was the only passenger on board, travelling from Palma to rehearse for Fierce Creatures in the UK, and told how she was 'almost a goner' after the captain had tried to make her sit in a certain part of the plane.

'I insisted on sitting where I was, which was just as well because that was the area where the van came through when we crashed and I would have been killed instantly,' she told Egan. 'When the plane crashed I phoned the production office [of the film] and told them I was stuck in a traffic jam. They were like, "Everybody's late because a bloody plane landed on the motorway". I was embarrassed.'

Her partner at the time was Baron Steven Bentinck, a Madrid based billionaire and private art collector, and nephew of the late steel tycoon Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza de Kaszon Heini, who once boasted he had £50m of annual disposable income. 

The couple married in the late 1990s and had three children - Wolfe, Alice and Lizzy - with Lisa dividing her time between London, New York, a mansion in Klosters - the exclusive Swiss ski resort - Norris Castle on the Isle of Wight, and Moyns Park - a Grade I listed Elizabethan country house on Lord Ivar Mountbatten's 444 acre stately pile in Essex. They'd also holiday on Bentinck's £5million Zaca A Te Moana yacht - a 150ft replica of Errol Flynn’s famous yacht Zaca.

Lisa and Bentinck split in 2005 and Lisa allegedly employed Prince Charles's divorce lawyer, Fiona Shackleton. They officially separated in 2011. By this point Lisa was a fully fledged member of high society, counting the likes of AA Gill and Bryan Ferry as friends. 

Lisa, who lost her father Maurice Hogan, an architect, when she was 14 after he dropped dead of a heart attack, is the step-daughter of Raymond Keaveney, former director of the National Gallery in Dublin.

Her mother is ex-model Arlene Underwood, whose 'grit' Lisa has inherited; at 41 she was widowed with four young daughters and enrolled at Trinity College for four years studying for a doctorate before setting up Friends of the National Gallery.

'I saw her pushing through and going into a lot of zones that she'd never been in before. I'd come home with my sisters after school and mum would just be writing these essays. She'd say, "I haven't used my brain for so long, and I can't ever remember writing anything like this", and she'd just be sobbing,' Lisa recalled. 'I'm so proud of her.' 

She's also inherited her parents' artistic skills; Lisa runs a studio in London where she crafts figurative and animal sculptures which are much admired on Instagram.

'He knows roads, but he doesn't know land that much,' she said. 'There was a big learning curve, but he's such a prolific character, once he puts his head to something it's just full-on.'

She added that she keeps trying to move to London but 'must be a country girl at heart' because she 'always seems to end up there'.

'And that's where I seem to be happiest,' she admitted. 'I have a studio in London that I try to go to once a week, and Jeremy calls it "pavement-itis" where I just need the pavement under my feet.'

The woman behind the man on Clarkson’s Farm, former model and actress Lisa Hogan, has been a regular on the show alongside her partner Jeremy Clarkson since the launch of the Amazon Prime show in 2021.

The Irish woman has been involved with the farming operation since the show first launched three years ago and has a more prominent role on the latest season in particular, which features her and Clarkson taking on a new challenge as pig farmers and meeting a great deal of struggle and tragedy along the way.

Her most significant role on the farm is operating the Diddly Squat shop, selling local produce, from rum brewed with honey from Cotswold bees to sheep’s wool jumpers and branded merchandise.

A growing online lifestyle brand unto itself as well as a shop that punters queue for hours to get into, Hogan told The Sunday Times the shop “makes a fair bit” of money, though she would not be drawn on an exact figure.

Away from the confines of the farm shop, Clarkson’s Farm has shown a side of Hogan that is a far cry from her previous life as a model and actress. She does not shy from getting down in the muck, does plenty of the dirty work and shows a deep love for the animals under her and Clarkson’s care.

She gave up her previous work as an artist and sculptor to focus solely on the farm and managing the shop. ​

Hogan (50) was born in Dublin, the daughter of architect Maurice Hogan and former model Arlene Underwood, and has two sisters.

A student at Alexandra College in Milltown, Hogan was just 14 when her father died suddenly of a heart attack. Speaking to the Irish Independent in 2017, she remembered him as “a wonderful, loving man” and fondly recalled his great sense of humour.

Her mother later married Raymond Keaveney, the director of the National Gallery and a brother of Peter and Mark, founders of the Peter Mark hairdressing chain.

In May 1996, Hogan met aristocrat Baron Steven Bentinck, a nephew of the Madrid-based billionaire and art collector Baron Heinrich von Thyssen. They married in 1998 and have three children – Wolfe, Alice and Lizzy.

She had previously dated English jockey and stockbroker Roger Weatherby and had been linked for a time to Gavin O’Reilly, the son of businessman and former Ireland rugby player Tony O’Reilly.

Bentinck and Hogan split time between several homes: from London, New York and Essex to a mansion in a Swiss ski resort, a castle on the Isle of Wight and a 147ft yacht, the Zaca A Te Mona, or Peace of the Sea.

They separated in 2005 and Hogan employed the services of Fiona Shackleton, the lawyer who represented Prince Charles in his divorce from Princess Diana. A highly publicised divorce was finalised in 2011.

During her time as an actor, she was cast in the 1997 comedy Fierce Creatures, written and produced by Monty Python star John Cleese.

She had a near-death experience during her time working on the film when she was 25. The plane she was travelling to London on had an emergency crash landing on the A40 dual carriageway in England, crashing into a van after going through an airfield fence.

“We took off from Palma and I thought everything was fine for a while,” she told the Irish Independent.

“The captain had tried to make me sit in a certain part of the plane. I insisted on sitting where I was, which was just as well because that was the area where the van came through when we crashed and I would have been killed instantly.”

Hogan and former Top Gear co-host Clarkson (64) have been together for seven years and first met at a party in 2017.

Writing in The Sunday Times during the early days of the pandemic in May 2020, Hogan said she had started filming for the first season of Clarkson’s Farm herself as the camera crew had been forced to leave due to restrictions.

Worn down by “the Groundhog Day routine” of lockdown, she said she “hit a slump” around four weeks in.

“The next evening, at dusk, he takes me deep into a wood. We climb up onto a wobbly plank high in a tree opposite a badger hide. Our badger-watching plan doesn’t get far because we chat too much,” she said.

“Jeremy loves nothing more than to tell an interesting story he’s read or heard, then I tell him something that he doesn’t find interesting at all, but we natter on our perch until it’s too dark to see anything.”

The third season has only just been released but a fourth has already been commissioned, with filming set to get under way this year.

Over the past three years Jeremy Clarkson has been followed by cameras after he turned his focus to running a farm .

The former Top Gear star, 63, is the star of Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm – after he purchased land in the Cotswolds and established the Diddly Squat Farm.

Along the way he’s been helped by those including newly minted farm manager Kaleb Cooper , land agent Charlie Ireland, ‘head of security’ Gerald Cooper and his partner Lisa Hogan , who works on the farm and also runs its shop.

All appear in the newly released third season of the show, which presents plenty of challenges again.

In a sneak peek of one episode, Lisa was shown breaking down in tears after the deaths of piglets.

Although viewers have come to know those working at Diddly Squat quite well, Lisa is relatively private – so here’s everything we know about the TV star so far.

How long have Lisa Hogan and Jeremy Clarkson been together?

Lisa, an Irish former model and actress, met Jeremy at a party through mutual friends.

They then went on to become a couple in 2017.

They haven’t spoken much about their relationship, however Lisa said they didn’t rush their romance.

‘It was quite a long courtship as I didn’t know where he was in his life. And I wasn’t ready to start dating again; didn’t want to go out with anyone,’ she once told The Times.

‘He had to court me for three months.’

How old is Lisa Hogan?

Born in May 1972 in Dublin, Lisa is currently 50 years old and is set to turn 51 next month.

Her father Maurice was an architect, and her mother, Arlene Underwood, was a former model.

She attended Alexandra College in Milltown and later pursued careers as a model, artist, and actress.

‘It was a way of getting me down here…I think Jeremy wanted me to move down here full-time, but if he’d said that to me I might have just said no. I said I would do it, but I want to be able to do what I want to do in it,’ she said.

Lisa recently explained that since agreeing to be filmed for Clarkson’s Farm, cameras follow them for about 12 months, two to three days a week.

They only had a two-week break between the end of filming season two and the beginning of the next.

The couple can be seen together on Jeremy’s popular Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm, which sees the 63-year-old working hard on his Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds.

Jeremy opened the Diddly Squat Farm Shop in Chipping Norton in 2020, selling local produce, food and drinks to locals and visitors.

Despite having lived a life of glamour at the height of her career as a model, Lisa is more than happy to get stuck in with the animals and tractors on the farm.

The Dublin native attended the prestigious private school Alexandra College as a youngster before bursting into the world of acting in the 1990s.

Following her employment as a researcher by Faulty Towers and Monty Python star John Cleese, Lisa appeared as a sea lion keeper in the 1997 comedy film Fierce Creatures, which featured Cleese, his Monty Python colleague Michael Palin and Jamie Lee Curtis.

When she was 25, Lisa was involved in a terrifying incident as her then partner’s private Learjet was forced to crash land on the A40 dual carriageway outside London.

Before finding love with Jeremy, Lisa married the Madrid-based millionaire Baron Steven Bentinck in the late 1990s, whom she shares three children with – Wolf, Alice and Lizzie.

During her marriage with Steven, whom she broke up with in 2005 before their divorce was finalised in 2011, Lisa split her time between London, New York and a luxurious Swiss ski resort.

Meet Lisa Hogan, the Dubliner who has captured Jeremy Clarkson's heart

It seems that it's true what they say there really is someone out there for everyone, it just took Jeremy Clarkson a few attempts to find 'the one.'

The former Top Gear was married twice, to Alexandra James and Frances Caine, before he came to meet his statuesque 6ft 2" other half Lisa Hogan. He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but he was the one for Lisa and the duo has gone from strength to strength over recent years even giving fans an insight into their lives on the hit TV show Clarkson's Farm.

Now that Jeremy has revealed his health scare which he finally addressed after going to a wellness retreat with Lisa, just how did the motoring journalist manage to bag the Dublin beauty? Here's what we know...

When did they meet?

According to a novel written by Jeremy's ex-girlfriend Phillipa Sage, The Wonderful World Of Jeremy Clarkson: My Life On The Road With Jeremy, it was when he was already supposed to be in a committed relationship.

Clarkson was married to his second wife when they met and in the book, she describes herself as ‘the other woman’. Then, in 2017, she found out he was also seeing Lisa.

‘He’d actually told me: “I was born for you” and asked me to stay the night a few days before he was out with Lisa,’ Philippa said in a recent interview. ‘Then one of my friends pointed out the photograph of him with another woman.

‘I thought: “Oh yes, she’s definitely his type. She’s tall and blonde. He’s gone for the perfect upgrade: taller, skinnier, younger.” So I was like: “F**k off, what are you doing when we are supposed to be working things out?”’

Jeremy told her to ‘calm down’, assuring Phillipa that Lisa was ‘just a friend’, but a few weeks later admitted he wanted to be with Lisa.

Though we don't know when they did finally get together the two made their official debut as a couple at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards in 2017. Now, it is Lisa Hogan who has become chatelaine of Clarkson's Diddley Squat Farm , and who regularly features on the Prime Video series that follows their fortunes.

‘I think she’s really enjoying doing that, because she’s even less of a country girl than I am — though she’ll probably say different. She was born in Dublin and has lived in Switzerland, Majorca and London, and yet there she is with her filthy Doc Martens on, stomping around, running that farm shop and loving it,' said Clarkson.

Who is Lisa Hogan?

Lisa had a middle-class upbringing in Dublin. Her father Maurice was an architect who died when she was 14. Her mother, former model Arlene Underwood, remarried to Raymond Keaveney, director of the National Gallery and whose brothers Peter and Mark founded the nationwide hairdressing chain that bears their names.

She was educated at Alexandra College in Milltown, and later became a model, artist and actress. But her list of achievements doesn't start there, John Cleese saw her as a muse and cast her in 1997’s Fierce Creatures.

Lisa had dated jockey and stockbroker Roger Weatherby, and was linked to Tony O’Reilly’s son Gavin for a while, before she met and married Steven Bentinck, with whom she had three children, Wolfe, Alice and Lizzy.

Theirs was an enviable lifestyle, split between London, New York, a mansion in Switzerland, a castle on the Isle of Wight, an Elizabethan home in Essex, and the yacht, the Zaca A Te Mona, which was permanently on standby in Majorca.

Yet like her other half, finding true love was a struggle and she herself went through a divorce from Steven in 2005, when Lisa allegedly employed Prince Charles’s divorce lawyer, Fiona Shackleton, to act for her. The divorce was finalised in 2011.

Addressing their own split rumours

With all the drama that came following Jeremy's words about Meghan Markle , rumours of a split plagued the pair. But Jeremy came out to shush the swirling gossip, stating recently that the two were very much still together and going strong.

'So many kind messages about today’s reports. But relax. Lisa and I have not split up and I have not been sacked as host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,' he wrote.

Jeremy's health scare

The presenter revealed in January 2024 that he'd had a 5cm cyst removed and had lost a stone in weight.

He told The Sun: 'Lisa took me to a health farm and, well, it was so miserable there that I thought, "I've got to have this cyst taken out at some point, I may as well go now". So I checked out of the whole place and checked into hospital, because it was more fun having an operation than eating juniper berries all day long.'

What does the future hold for the couple?

Despite how close they have become, marriage appears not to be on the cards, as she explained to Fabulous magazine. ‘Mrs Clarkson? No, thank you, I like Lisa Hogan,’ she said.

‘We’re at a stage where we are not going to have kids. I think because of our age, it’s much easier. You go: “God, is it you I end up with? OK, that’s it.” But it’s relaxing knowing you are not going to be with anybody else. It gives you a certain amount of liberation.’

She also explained how their relationship developed. ‘He courted me for quite a long time,’ she said. ‘He took me out for dinner. He would pick me up, drop me off. I wanted to know that he wasn’t messing around.'

‘We’d both come out of quite long-term relationships and I was really happy being single. So I was like: “If I’m not going to be single any more, I don’t want to be with a messer”.

‘I had given myself three months, but it was way before that, where I thought: “OK, I really like this person”. He has a laser brain and will take you down — and that’s where the fun and the challenge is with him, trying to take him down.’

As Lisa says, they have been together for five years, but ‘it feels like 50 because we are together 24/7.’

As the third series of Clarkson's Farm hits Amazon Prime Video , fans are once again getting a glimpse into the rural life of Jeremy Clarkson and his girlfriend Lisa Hogan at Diddly Squat. But how old are this farming duo?

Lisa, an Irish ex-model and actress hailing from Dublin, is now 50 years old. Her varied past includes studying at Alexandra College in Milltown, working as a model, artist, and actress, and even being chosen by actor John Cleese as a muse in 1997's Fierce Creatures.

On the other hand, famed presenter and journalist Jeremy was born in April 1960, making him 64 years old. Born in Doncaster, Jeremy's rise from selling Paddington Bear toys for his parents' business to becoming a prominent figure in journalism and television is well-known. His iconic role as a presenter on Top Gear solidified his status as a household name.

With a significant 14-year age gap between them, Lisa and Jeremy's relationship flourished after being introduced at a party by friends in 2017. Despite their differing backgrounds and experiences, the couple has found common ground at the farm, where they navigate the trials and triumphs of rural life side by side.

In the upcoming series of Clarkson's Farm, Lisa faces a fresh set of challenges as she takes the helm of the farm shop. She's hit with a stark warning from Charlie Ireland, the land agent, about the potential for a criminal record if she doesn't cease selling products sourced from beyond a 16-mile radius of the farm.

Ahead of the third series of Clarkson's Farm, Lisa admitted she was ready to risk jail time for the team. "I was going to take one for the team literally," she confessed. "You pay so much in business rates, taxes, then you give it to them and they use it to fight to close you down."

Lisa also commented on the situation, saying, "It seems strange, the behaviour," She expressed gratitude towards the council despite the challenges: "They've done me a favour actually because I wouldn't have found half of my suppliers unless I really had to search for them within 16 miles. So I'm really grateful to them for that. But I just think [the council] overreacts a little bit sometimes."

Discussing her experience working alongside Jeremy, Lisa shared that being with him around the clock is "pretty easy". "We're probably so totally co-dependent at this stage because we spend so much time together but he's so interesting," she remarked. "He's so fascinating and I just love watching the way his brain works, and I always get surprised." She continued to praise Jeremy's expertise, saying, "I think it's going one way and it's not. He's been in the business for a long time. He is really good at it. I love it."

Speaking about the new series of Clarkson's Farm himself last month, Jeremy admitted "the state of farming is so parlous" at the moment. He told PA: "We have a 1,000-acre farm, but since I bought it in 2008, we’ve only ever farmed 500 acres of it. The other 500 acres is wildflower meadows, streams, woods, and rough ground. There are no crops growing, no animals, just countryside, because the state of farming is so parlous at the moment.

"I bet Kaleb that I could earn more money from doing little projects on unfarmed land than he could from farming 500 acres. So, while he was stuck with the traditional wheat, barley, and arable farming, I started harvesting blackberries, planting mustard, and using tiny little pockets of unfarmed land around the place."

Jeremy Clarkson and Lisa Hogan are making a life for themselves in the Cotswolds. The couple, who started dating in 2017, moved to the English countryside and opened up their beloved Diddly Squat farm three years later. 

Nowadays, their home serves as the backdrop for the hit reality series, Clarkson's Farm , which is set to return with a third series in May. Ahead of the show's return, we're taking a look at Jeremy and Lisa's relationship...

According to House & Country , Lisa and Jeremy hit it off at a party in 2017. Little is known about their first meeting. "It was quite a long courtship as I didn't know where he was in his life. And I wasn't ready to start dating again; didn't want to go out with anyone," Lisa told The Times . "He had to court me for three months."

Lisa – a former artist and model – has also spoken about their dynamic as a couple. "I'm a huge, huge support. And I like being a support. But he has to appreciate it in return. He's learned - it's like puppy training," she explained to Fabulous magazine. 

"We do have a really good relationship. Jeremy definitely wears the trousers but I'd like to think it's fairly even, to be honest."

"I do enjoy being a strong woman," she continued. "He'll say he wants something done and I'll try to talk him around to a more sensible way. And then I'll agree to do exactly what he wants…And then I'll go ahead and do exactly what I want!"

Lisa, who shares three children with her ex-husband, Baron Steven Bentinck, has introduced them to Jeremy, and she's also met Jeremy's kids – Emily, Finlo and Katya. 

Lisa had never set her sights on moving to Diddly Squat farm, but in a joint interview with The Sunday Times , she revealed how Jeremy enticed her away from London. 

Recalling how he'd asked her to run the farm shop, Lisa said: "It was a way of getting me down here [...] I think Jeremy wanted me to move down here full-time, but if he'd said that to me I might have just said no. I said I would do it, but I want to be able to do what I want to do in it." The rest, as they say, is history!

"I am so proud of Lisa. How she has gone from – how can I put this politely – a sedentary and rather luxurious life to find herself living on a farm where she didn't know anyone…" raved Jeremy. "The ordering and keeping the place stocked – I don't know how she does it. It's a great little business." 

On the topic of marriage, Lisa was recently quizzed over a scene from Clarkson's Farm which hinted at the possibility of a proposal. After Jeremy told his girlfriend he had a "big surprise" for her, Lisa asked if he was proposing. But, in a hilarious moment, the 64-year-old ignored her question altogether and pointed to a fallen willow tree instead. 

'I'll think about the proposal, ok? I'm not ready yet," he replied with prompting. Asked about the exchange, Lisa told The Sunday Times: "I just thought I might surprise him." Who knows, maybe we'll hear wedding bells one day!
