Vishal’s claim to fame in Telugu was Pandem Kodi. He couldn’t recreate such magic again even with Pandem Kodi 2. But some of his previous films like Detective and Abhimanyudu had done moderately well in Telugu. And many of his recent films turned out to be disappointment. Despite all this track record, Vishal is keen on releasing his films in Telugu regularly. He is now back with a cop drama Laththi. Will Vishal make comeback? Check out.

What is it about?

An ordinary police constable Murali Krishna (Vishal) gets suspended in connection with an issue. Upon rejoining, he beats influential person (son of a don), not knowing his identity and again lands in trouble. The egoistic don and his son don’t want to leave Murali and family. Murali is forced to confront the goons and protect his family from them. However, Murali and his 10-year-old son get trapped inside an under-construction building surrounded by the villains. The two must find a way to escape with their lives.

Performances

Vishal justifies his role as an innocent constable. Vishal’s wife (Sunaina), a nurse and doting wife, is alright but only confined to the first half. She gets sidelined in this hero-centric film. Veteran actor Prabhu is seen in a small role which doesn’t have a strong connection to the story. Ramana as Veera is a proud baddie and son of Don Sura (PN Sunny). The villains are let down in Laththi as they’re not prominent faces in Telugu. Child actor Lirish Raghav is good as Vishal’s son. He is part of the crucial episodes in the film.

Technicalities

Laththi has a very thin point. It is usual cop drama between an honest cop versus dreadful villain. Director Vinoth failed to deliver an interesting story. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s songs are not appealing and they have a lot of Tamil flavour. Background music is good though. Visuals are effective. The film drags due to lack of a compelling story.

It is a cat-and-mouse game between the protagonist and antagonist. However, unlike many such films where usually the protagonist chases the antagonist, whereas Laththi is exactly the opposite. It is the antagonist who is searching for the protagonist Murali unaware of his true identity who had beaten in the station.

Director Vinoth Kumar chose a wafer-thin point and tried to weave a story around it. But it is a very old cop story that’s done to death. Basically, Laththi is around ego of the antagonist who decides to take revenge on the since constable.  The scenes were so predictable. The first half is a filler and the real story begins after the villain identifies the hero. Ironically, the clue comes from the mobile ringtone based on which the antagonist identifies Murali as the cop to take revenge on. 

The second-half is supposed to be a gripping and edge-of-the-seat thriller. Whereas the logics goes for toss when the protagonist and his son gets trapped in a building surrounded by hundreds of enemies. One and only Vishal takes on all the hundreds with some bruises on his body. This is unrealistic and filled with the over the top scenes. Laththi is marred by weak writing and too much cinematic liberties. The audiences lose the interest since they don’t connect much with what’s happening on the big screen. Lack of prominent faces as the villains is also let down in Telugu. 

This is another big fat bore commercial cinema with Tamil flavour. Even the action lovers doesn’t have moments to relish on. It is Vishal’s Laththi charge on the audiences. Better to stay away!

Vishal has aggressively promoted "Laththi" and has expressed confidence in the film's success.

Let's see if his confidence is justified.

Story: Constable Murali Krishna (Vishal) is suspended for beating an innocent person with his baton. He was accepted six months later on the recommendation of a higher-ranking officer (Prabhu).The notorious criminal Veera (Ramana), son of don Sura, harasses the officer's daughter one day.

Officer kidnaps Veera and contacts Murali Krishna and instructs him to beat Veera.

A video of a police officer goes online. However, the video conceals the officer's identity. Sura eventually tracks down Murali Krishna, the constable who beat him, and decides to take his life. How does Murali Krishna protect his family?

Artistes’ Performances: Vishal has acted out the role of Murali Krishna with conviction. He portrays himself as a conscientious police officer and doting family man. He gets to perform the actual action sequences in the latter part of the film.

Ramana is a natural as the villain Veera. As Vishal's wife, Sunaiana has little to do.

Technical Excellence: Cinematography, production values, and action sequences all meet regular standards. The two songs are forgettable, but the background score is fine. 

Highlights: First half Vishal

Drawback: Predictable narration Climax sequences

Analysis Vishal is given room in "Laththi" to showcase his talents. Maybe this is why Vishal put so much effort into this film. The director's approach to the story is what initially keeps us interested, despite the story's lack of originality.

In the initial portions, we learn why Vishal is taken off patrol and the moral quandary he faces after being reinstated. From there, the drama progresses to the essence of the story: the villains trying to track down the hero while the hero, using his cunning, manages to trap them.

Our attention is held throughout this long sequence in which the villain is trying to track down the constable who defeated him, and in which the constable (hero) demonstrates his superior intelligence.

When our hero and antagonist finally meet, however, the paper-thin plot falls flat. The director's skill, which was on full display up until the break, is completely gone.

While it's commendable that the director and hero Vishal keep the focus on the story rather than digress into duets and item songs, the dragging sequences in the film's middle act are wearing. Furthermore, the emotional monologue that Vishal performs during the climax is difficult to swallow.

Despite the fact that the police department is aware that their constable is fighting a don, no one has shown up to back him up. This makes no sense at all.

To sum up, "Laatthi" has a promising beginning but falls short of its potential. It has a decent premise and some interesting parts in the middle, but it falls flat in the end.

Bottom line: Mixed Material

విశాల్ తాజా చిత్రం ‘లాఠీ’. ఎ వినోద్ కుమార్ దర్శకత్వంలో వచ్చిన ఈ సినిమా ఈ రోజే ప్ర‌పంచ‌వ్యాప్తంగా విడుదల అయింది. మరి ప్రేక్షకులను ఈ సినిమా ఏ మేరకు మెప్పించిందో సమీక్షలోకి వెళ్లి తెలుసుకుందాం !

మురళీ కృష్ణ (విశాల్) ఒక సిన్సియర్ పోలీస్ కానిస్టేబుల్. తన ఉద్యోగం పట్ల ఎంతో విధేయత కలిగిన వ్యక్తి. అయితే, ఓ అమ్మాయి మర్డర్ కేసులో సస్పెండ్ అవుతాడు. తన భార్య కవిత (సునైనా)తో, తన కొడుకుతో లైఫ్ ను లీడ్ చేస్తుంటాడు. ఈ క్రమంలో జరిగిన నాటకీయ పరిణామాల నేపథ్యంలో మురళీ కృష్ణ మళ్ళీ డ్యూటీలో జాయిన్ అవుతాడు. ఐతే, భయంకరమైన నేరస్థుడు వీరతో మురళీ కృష్ణ కి వైర్యం పెరుగుతుంది ? అసలు ఈ వీర ఎవరు ?, మురళీ కృష్ణను ఎందుకు టార్గెట్ చేశాడు ?, ఇంతకీ మురళీ కృష్ణ ఏం చేశాడు ?, ఈ మధ్యలో తన కుమారుడు వీర ముఠా చేతులకు ఎలా చిక్కాడు ?, మురళీ కృష్ణ తన కొడుకును ఎలా సేవ్ చేసుకున్నాడు ? అనేది మిగిలిన కథ.

ప్లస్ పాయింట్స్ :

ప్రజలకు సమస్య వస్తే.. పోలీసులు వెళ్తారు, రాజకీయ నాయకులకు సమస్య వస్తే పోలీస్ డిపార్ట్మెంటే వెళ్తుంది. మరీ ఒక పోలీస్ కానిస్టేబుల్ కి సమస్య వస్తే.. ఆ పోలీస్ కానిస్టేబుల్ ఫ్యామిలీ సమస్యలో ఉంటే.. తనను తన ఫ్యామిలీని ఆ కానిస్టేబుల్ ఎలా సేవ్ చేసుకున్నాడు?, ఈ క్రమంలో జరిగిన నాటకీయ పరిణామాలు ఏమిటి? అనే కోణంలో సాగిన ఈ లాఠీ సినిమా కొన్ని సీన్స్ లో ఆకట్టుకుంది. తన పరిపక్వతమైన నటనతో విశాల్ ఈ చిత్రంలోనే ఉత్తమమైన నటనను కనబర్చారు. ముఖ్యంగా క్లిష్టమైన కొన్ని యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశాల్లో ఆయన తన మార్క్ యాక్షన్ తో, నటనతో సినిమాకే హైలెట్ గా నిలిచారు.

అలాగే ప్రధాన పాత్రలో నటించిన ప్రభు కూడా చాలా బాగా నటించాడు. ఇక హీరోయిన్ గా నటించిన సునైనా తన నటనతో ఎమోషనల్ సీన్స్ లో అద్భుతంగా నటించింది. మెయిన్ గా హీరో – విలన్ మధ్య వచ్చే సన్నివేశాలు బాగున్నాయి. మరో కీలక పాత్రలో నటించిన మునిష్కాంత్ కూడా బాగా నటించాడు. అలాగే మిగిలిన నటీనటుల స్క్రీన్ ప్రెజెన్స్, వారి నటన బాగున్నాయి.

మైనస్ పాయింట్స్ :

హై యాక్షన్ అండ్ ఎమోషనల్ ఎంటర్ టైనర్ గా సాగే ఈ సినిమా ఆకట్టుకోలేకపోయింది. ఎ వినోద్ కుమార్ దర్శకత్వ పనితనం బాగున్నా.. తీసుకున్న స్క్రిప్ట్ లో విషయం లేకపోవడం సినిమా ఫలితం దెబ్బతింది. అసలు సినిమాలో చెప్పుకోవడానికి గుడ్ పాయింట్ ఉన్నా గానీ, మెయిన్ గా ఏ సీక్వెన్స్ ఇంట్రస్ట్ గా సాగలేదు. ఈ సినిమా ఫస్ట్ హాఫ్ లో చాలా భాగం మ్యాటర్ లేని సీన్లతో, వర్కౌట్ కాని పోలీస్ డ్రామాతో సాగితే , సెకెండ్ హాఫ్ సాగతీత సన్నివేశాలతో సాగుతుంది.

సినిమా మొదలైన పది నిముషాలకే ఈ సినిమా ఏ స్థాయి సినిమానే అర్థమయిపోతుంది. దీనికి తోడు ఓ సాధారణ పోలీస్ కానిస్టేబుల్ కి ఎన్ని సమస్యలు ఉంటాయో.. వారి జాబ్ లో ఎంత రిస్క్ ఉంటుందో చాలా క్లారిటీగా చూపించారు. సినిమాలో అనవసరమైన సీన్స్ తో సినిమాని డైవర్ట్ చేశారు. కథ అవసరానికి మించిన సన్నివేశాలు కూడా ఎక్కువైపోయాయి.

దీనికితోడు కథ పరంగా వచ్చే కొన్ని సీన్స్ సినిమా స్థాయికి తగ్గట్లు పూర్తి స్థాయిలో ఆకట్టుకోవు. అలాగే సినిమాలో ప్రీ క్లైమాక్స్ లో హై యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ తో మంచి ఎమోషనల్ సీక్వెన్స్ ను రాసుకున్నా.. అవి కూడా పూర్తి సినిమాటిక్ గా సాగాయి. విశాల్ అభిమానులకు ఈ సినిమాతో కొంతవరకు నిరాశ తప్పదు.

సాంకేతిక విభాగం :

ఈ సినిమాకు సంబంధించి సాంకేతిక విభాగం గురించి మాట్లాడుకుంటే.. సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ వర్క్ బాగుంది. సినిమాలోని కీలక సన్నివేశాలతో పాటు మిగిలిన యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశాలను కూడా కథాకథనాలకు అనుగుణంగా అద్భుతంగా చిత్రీకరించారు. ఎడిటింగ్ కూడా చాలా బాగుంది. ఇక సంగీత దర్శకుడు యువన్ శంకర్ రాజా సమకూర్చిన నేపథ్య సంగీతం బాగుంది. నిర్మాతలు రమణ & నందా ఎక్కడా కాంప్రమైజ్ కాకుండా ఈ చిత్రాన్ని నిర్మించారు. నిర్మాణ విలువులు అద్భుతంగా ఉన్నాయి.

లాఠీ అంటూ వచ్చిన ఈ పోలీస్ కానిస్టేబుల్ ఎమోషనల్ యాక్షన్ డ్రామాలో సాధారణ పోలీస్ ల సమస్యలను ప్రస్తావించడం బాగుంది. కొన్ని ఎమోషనల్ యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ పర్వాలేదు. ఐతే, ఓవరాల్ గా ఈ సినిమా ఆసక్తికరంగా సాగలేదు. కథాకథనాల్లో ఆకట్టుకునే కంటెంట్ లేకపోవడం, చాలా చోట్ల ప్లే బోర్ గా సాగడం, సినిమాలో ముఖ్యమైన కొన్ని సీక్వెన్స్ లో లాజిక్ లు కూడా లేకపోవడం వంటి అంశాలు ఈ సినిమాకి మైనస్ గా నిలిచాయి. మొత్తమ్మీద ఈ సినిమా ప్రేక్షకులను ఆకట్టుకోలేకపోయింది.

‘లాఠీ’ కథేంటంటే..  మురళీకృష్ణ(విశాల్‌) ఓ సిన్సియర్‌ కానిస్టేబుల్‌. భార్య కవి(సునైన), కొడుకు రాజునే ప్రపంచంగా బతుకుతాడు. ఓ హత్యాచార కేసు విషయంలో నిర్లక్ష్యంగా వ్యవహరించారని పై అధికారులు అతన్ని సెస్పెండ్‌ చేస్తారు. తిరిగి ఉద్యోగంలో చేరేందుకు మురళీ అధికారుల చుట్టూ తిరుగుతుంటాడు. చివరకు డీఐజీ కమల్‌(ప్రభు) సాయంతో ఉద్యోగంలో చెరతాడు. ఇకపై ఎవరిని లాఠీతో శిక్షించొద్దని భావించిన మురళీ...సిన్సియర్‌గా తన పని తాను చేసుకుంటూ ఫ్యామిలీతో హ్యాపీగా గడుపుతుంటాడు.

ఓ సారి డీఐజీ కమల్‌..తన కస్టడీలో ఉన్న ఓ నేరస్తుడిని లాఠీతో కొట్టమని మురళీని కోరతాడు. తన ఉద్యోగం తిరిగి ఇప్పించాడనే కృతజ్ఞతతో నేరస్తుడు ఎవరనేది చూడకుండా.. అతన్ని లాఠీతో కొడతాడు మురళీ. అయితే ఆ నేరస్తుడు పేరు మోసిన రౌడీ సూరా కొడుకు వీరా అని తర్వాత తెలుస్తుంది. తనను తీవ్రంగా కొట్టిన మురళీపై వీరా పగ పడతాడు. పట్టుకున్న డీఐజీ కమల్‌ని కాకుండా.. లాఠీతో కొట్టిన మురళి కుటుంబాన్ని టార్గెట్‌ చేస్తాడు. అప్పుడు ముర‌ళీ కృష్ణ ఏం చేస్తాడు? సూరా, వీరాల‌నుంచి త‌న కుటుంబాన్ని ఎలా కాపాడుకుంటాడు? అనేదే మిగతా కథ. 

ఎలా ఉందంటే..  ఓ సాధారణ కానిస్టేబుల్ కథే ‘లాఠీ’. పై అధికారుల ఒత్తిడితో ఓ ముఠాతో వైరం పెంచుకొని.. ఆ ముఠా తన కుటుంబాన్ని టార్గెట్‌ చేస్తే.. కానిస్టేబుల్‌ ఒక్కడే తన ఫ్యామిలీని ఎలా కాపాడుకున్నాడు అనేది ఈ స్టోరీ లైన్‌. పాయింట్‌ కొత్తగా ఉన్నా.. కథనం మాత్రం రొటీన్‌గా సాగుతుంది. ఎలాంటి ట్విస్టులు లేకుండా.. యాక్షన్‌ సీన్స్‌, ఫ్యామిలీ సన్నివేశాలతో  చాలా సింపుల్‌గా కథ ముందుకు వెళ్తుంది. ఫస్టాఫ్‌లో ఓ సాధారణ కానిస్టేబుల్‌ జీవితాన్ని చూపించారు.  నిజాయతీగా ఉండే ఓ కానిస్టేబుల్‌ పై అధికారి చెప్పారని ఓ నేరస్తుడిని కొట్టడం..అతను పై అధికారిపై కాకుండా కానిస్టేబుల్‌పై పగపెంచుకోవడం.. సెల్‌ఫోన్‌ రింగ్‌టోన్‌తో అతన్ని గుర్తించడం లాంటి సన్నివేశాల ఫస్టాఫ్‌ కాస్త ఆసక్తికరంగా సాగుతుంది. ఇక సెకండాఫ్‌ మాత్రం చాలా రొటీన్‌గా సాగుతూ ప్రేక్షకుల సహనానికి పరీక్ష పెడుతుంది. పోరాట ఘట్టాలు అయినా కొత్తగా ఉంటాయా అంటే అదీ లేదు. తండ్రి కొడుకుల మధ్య వచ్చే ఎమోషన్‌ సీన్స్‌ కూడా ఆకట్టుకోలేవు. క్లైమాక్స్‌ కూడా రొటీన్‌గా ఉంటుంది. 

ఎవరెలా చేశారంటే..  పోలీసు పాత్రలు విశాల్‌కు కొత్తేమి కాదు. గతంలో చాలా సినిమాల్లో పోలీసు పాత్ర పోషించారు. అందుకే కానిస్టేబుల్‌ మురళీ కృష్ణ పాత్రలో విశాల్‌ ఒదిగిపోయాడు. యాక్షన్‌ సీన్స్‌ అదరగొట్టేశాడు. క్లైమాక్స్‌లో ఎమోషన్స్‌ సీన్స్‌లో కూడా చక్కగా నటించాడు కానీ అది వర్కౌట్‌ కాలేదు. కవిత పాత్రకు సునైనా న్యాయం చేసింది. ఆమె పాత్ర నిడివి తక్కువే అయినా ఉన్నంతలో చక్కగా నటించింది.  ప్రభు, తలైవాసన్ పాత్రలకు పెద్దగా ప్రాధాన్యత లేదు. ఇక విలన్లు సూరా, వీరలుగా సన్నీ పీఎన్, రమణ జస్ట్ తెరపై విలనిజం పండించడంలో విఫలం అయ్యారు. అయితే ఈ తప్పు వారిది కాదు. ఆ పాత్రలు డిజైన్‌ చేసిన విధానంలోనే లోపం ఉంది. మిగిలిన నటీనటులు తమ పాత్రల పరిధిమేర నటించారు. ఇక సాంకేతిక విషయానికొస్తే.. యువన్‌ శంకర్‌ రాజా నేపథ్య సంగీతం బాగుంది. పీటర్‌ హెయిన్స్‌ పోరాట ఘట్టాలు పర్వాలేదు. సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ బాలసుబ్రహ్మణ్యం పనితీరు బాగుంది. నిర్మాణ విలువలు సినిమా స్థాయికి తగ్గట్లుగా ఉన్నాయి.  - అంజి శెట్టి, సాక్షి వెబ్‌డెస్క్‌

Laththi Movie Review: Vishal's action drama is riveting with minor flaws

Director vinoth kumar's laththi, starring vishal, sunaina and ramana, is a compelling action drama with excellent stunt choreography. the film manages to hold your attention, for the most part, says our review..

It’s been quite a while since Vishal gave a superhit venture. After Irumbu Thirai, Vishal has had a few films that received mixed reviews, while the others left without a trace. Now, Vishal is back with Laththi, yet another cop drama, which is aimed at being different from the films of the same ilk. Did he deliver what he promised?

A brutal rape occurs and the police are in search of the criminal. The police nab the accused and police constable Muruganantham (Vishal) is asked to give him a heavy bashing to confess the truth. Later, they come to know that they falsely accused a person of rape. Muruganantham gets suspended for a year following a human rights case. One fine day, Muruganantham accidentally encounters the criminal who committed the heinous crime. It changed the course of his life and career, forever. Does Muruganantham escape from the wrath of the criminal? Will he get justice for the woman who died a tragic death? Laththi has answers to these questions.

Written and directed by Vinoth Kumar, Laththi is a film that surprises the audience to a large extent. At a time when Kollywood is dominated by films about cops in better designations in the police system, this film is about a police constable, a character that is not largely explored in Tamil cinema. Vishal, as a police constable, is convincing. He brings in the vulnerability of the job and showcases how the system does not back employees in the lower category. He is known as the laththi specialist and that’s the reason why he gets suspended. The film also glorifies police brutality to an extent. Once he gets reinstated after six months, he feels scared about touching the laththi. These are some brilliant touches which make you engrossed in the first half.

While Vishal gets a non-heroic entry, the villain gets hyped throughout the film. In the first half, the villain is masked. But, those who follow Kollywood can easily make out who the villain is even before the big reveal. Laththi then becomes a cat-and-mouse game, an interesting one at that. Vinoth Kumar did an exceptional job of keeping the suspense for the most part.

However, Lathth is not a film without flaws. When films talk about rape, the director is solely responsible for making an informed decision about showcasing the brutality on screen. In Laththi, the rapes are too graphic and distastefully done. We get the point that she was raped, but no need to watch that on repeat mode!

Similarly, some of the dialogues are too childish and ridiculous. The climax, too, is stretched beyond a point. That being said, the film relies on terrific stunt choreography and they excelled and how! Kudos to Peter Hein who meticulously designed the stunt sequences.

Laththi also does a good job of showing a balanced relationship between a husband and wife. It also gives you good parenting lessons. When Muruganantham and his wife’s (Sunaina) son, Rasu, get panic attacks, they get the right help for him. This is a welcome change, especially when we are so used to seeing annoying kids in films.

For Vishal, Laththi is a departure from the underwhelming films that he was a part of in the past few years. In the film, Vishal did his best in giving a restrained performance. Sunaina, Ramana, Prabhu, Lirish Raghav and several others aided the lead cast in terms of performance. Balasubramaniem and Balakrishna Thota’s cinematography and composer Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music helped in enhancing the film.

On the whole, Laththi is a different cop film and engaging for the most part.

'Laththi' movie review: Interesting ideas get lathi-charged in this actioner

Debutant Vinoth Kumar’s Laththi has a hero-elevation line said by a bad guy that goes: "Avan namba kita maatala da, namba dhaan avan kita maati irukom!” We have heard this a thousand times already, but here, the dialogue isn't so out of place because the story is of Muruganandham (Vishal), a lone policeman who takes on an army of goons.

While Kaththi’s Kathiresan used the help of a friend and a few coins to face 50 men, Muruganandham takes the game a level higher by increasing the body count to over 100, all alone. What’s his weapon though? The entire building, it seems.

The protagonist hides his weapons in several locations in the building and they range from an iron baseball bat, hand grenade to a water sprinkler-controlled machine gun! Oh, there is a catch. Muruganandham’s sick son is also stuck in the same building and the hero has to ensure the latter's safety. Everything points at a fun, engaging action-thriller on paper, but the end result is quite the opposite. Ads by

The bad men in the film are a problem. While Sunny PN’s Sura is a maniac who stops his traitor from getting electrocuted only to kill him with a less painful gunshot, Ramana’s Vellai, is a whole new level of bizarre He wears a yellow polythene bag on his face for a major part of the film, as a reminder to avenge the hero. Laththi is a treasure trove for such unintentionally funny content.

During one of the initial scenes, Sura asks his allies to list the crimes committed by his son. For some strange reason, the goons start performing a clumsy mime in an attempt to recreate the crimes, without just listing them out. Many such 'innovative' ideas come across as silly humour.

Laththi relies on its lead actort o do much of the heavy-lifting. However, Vishal falls terribly short despite showing effort--especially his Moondram Pirai-esque act in the climax that only ends up highlighting his limitations as a performer. Sunainaa is probably the only actor who doesn’t give in to the over-the-top tone of the film. She delivers a sensible performance as a doting mother and wife.

Right from the title announcement, it was clear that the film would be about a laththi-happy policeman, and the protagonist tries to do justice to the title by charging at way too many people on screen. But the film doesn’t take a clear stand on police brutality. Though there are stretches where Muruganandham dreads executing custodial violence, and mouths preachy dialogues like, “Kandika dhaan na adikanum, dhandika illa!” you also learn that he has always enjoyed beating the criminals to a pulp.

The much-hyped fight sequences of this film feel heavily rushed and the exciting weapon-reveal sequence too is force-fit into a background song. Though Laththi tries hard to be an edge-of-the-seat thriller, it's not a good sign that you're laughing for most of it.

Laatti Movie : Artists Review

Vishal is known for his action entertainers. He once again came up with another action entertainer and this time he donned Khaki colors for a change. Vishal looked good in the role of the police officer. He showed the right kind of expressions and emotions. The way he showed concern for his family, his commitment to duty, and how he longs for his missing son makes an impression on the big screen. He enacted risky stunts with ease and his hard work is seen on the screen. He transformed himself in the role and the dialogue delivery is good. But at times his makeup during the climax didn't suit him. He looked odd but viewers may ignore it. He transformed his physique for the role of the police officer but at times he looked bulky.

Sunaina got a limited role opposite Vishal as his wife. She is good-looking and did well. Lirish Raghav performed well as Vishal's son. Prabhu appeared in the role of a DIG and is ok while Sunny and Ramana who played the criminals did what was required of them. Others performed according to their roles.

Laatti Movie : Technicians Review

Laatti story readied by director Vinoth Kumar highlights how a police officer singlehandedly fights for his survival when confronted with the dreaded criminals. Vinoth followed the regular template of the cop stories seen all these decades on the screen. The first half has little action as Vishal is seen trying to see his suspension off and in the process, Vinoth Kumar pays more attention to the bonding between his wife and son. At the same time, he showed the moves made by the criminal to get his son into politics in his own way. This set the stage for the exciting second half after the first half ends on a decent note with two parallel stories covering at the break.

As claimed by the makers, director Vinoth included high-octane action sequences throughout the second half. The entire second half boils down to how the protagonist fights to save himself and his son. the intense action sequences appeal to the masses though they are shot in a routine way. However one gets a feeling that the pre-climax is dragged with Vishal searching for his son and finally the story ends on a predictable note. Vinoth's story is routine but the screenplay is racy to an extent. His direction is fine to a point.

Dialogues are in accordance with the story and nothing excites. Stunts choreographed by Peter Heins are breathtaking in the second half. Yuvan Shankar Raja's background music is good and it elevated the scenes to another level. The cinematography of Balasubramaniem, and Balakrishna Thota could have been better as the coloring impacted the visuals. The editing of Srikanth is ok but could have been better in the second half. Production values are good.

Laatti Movie : Rating Analysis

Vishal's Laatti directed by Vinoth excited the masses but in the end, it offered nothing new. It is just old wine in an old bottle. Vishal worked hard for the film but with poor writing, a weak story, and direction, his hard work went unnoticed. More than two third's of the film is extremely routine and the next one-third is stuffed with action sequences. With emotions failing to connect chords with the movie lovers, Laatti failed to show its power. Vinoth's inexperience exposed all the loopholes in the script and the screenplay. Altogether, Laatti lacks strength. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 1 Rating for Laatti .

‘Laththi’ movie review: Vishal’s cop thriller fails to push us to the edge of our seat

Despite a promising first half, vinoth kumar’s directorial debut falters post-intermission and becomes a generic action film.

There’s a moment towards the end of Vinoth Kumar’s  Laththi , wherein the bad guys have buried alive the hero’s loved one and ask him to find the burial spot. It reminds us of Gautham Vasudev Menon’s  Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu . Another similarity between the two films is that they both involve a cat-and-mouse game between the hero, who is a cop, and the bad guys. But unlike  Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu  (and most other cop-thrillers), in  Laththi , it’s not the cop who is after the bad guys; the bad guys are after him (or at least that’s what we are led to believe up to a point).

A few refreshing bits like this in the first half make us sit up and take note. The hero, for instance, is not some testosterone-charged high-ranking officer whose punches weigh a ton and a half or who proudly proclaims himself a “porukki” (though his wife, played by Sunaina, affectionately calls him “pokiri”). Muruganantham (Vishal) is a middle-aged, middle-class constable under suspension, who is desperately trying to get back into his job – not only because he loves it but also because he has a family to run. 

He is an honest and upright cop but also fears authority. He clears his superior’s tea glass and cleans leftovers from his table. Upon rejoining, he begs his superior officer not to put him on ‘enquiry duty’ – basically beating the living daylights out of the custodial suspects with a latthi – which got him suspended (“I am even ready to do your domestic chores,” he tells his amused superior).

In other words, the hero, especially for a Tamil cop film, doesn’t seem larger than life. And, this works not only character-wise but also plot-wise. Because, when the antagonists surround him and his school-going son in a half-constructed building towards the end of the first half, it sets up the film beautifully. The audience will root for Muruganantham not just because he is the hero; he is also the underdog here. He has to overcome the overwhelming odds to save himself and his little son.

But all these good bits get undone post-intermission. Just as we prepare ourselves for the cat-and-mouse game to veer into the survival drama zone, the film takes a u-turn and becomes yet-another-Tamil-action film with the usual slo-mo fights and out-of-place melodrama.

As much as the protagonist’s character is fleshed out well, the writing is underwhelming with respect to the antagonists. The villains are just brawny, baritone-voiced men doing bad things. They are a father-son duo trying to harm another father-son duo – apart from this, there is nothing noteworthy. Just to make the audience hate one of the bad guys, the writer and/or the director resort to a vulgarly shot brutal rape scene. The writing misses the point: more than loathing the villains, we are supposed to be scared of them. But they hardly appear terrifying. 

The final act of the film seems stretched out just for Vishal to showcase his acting and action chops. It becomes a bit too long. Though it’s Vishal who single-handedly takes down over a hundred thugs, we are the ones who get tired of it.

తమిళంలో విశాల్ సినిమాలంటేనే యాక్షన్ సినిమాలు. తెలుగులో మార్కెట్ వుండడంతో డబ్బింగ్స్ విడుదలవుతూంటాయి. గత ఫిబ్రవరిలో విడుదలైన 'సామాన్యుడు' కూడా సక్సెస్ కాలేదు. కారణం విశాల్ సినిమాలన్నీ విషయపరంగా ఒకేలా వుంటాయి. ఆ విషయం పాతబడి వుంటుంది. ఇదే ధోరణిని కొనసాగిస్తూ 'లాఠీ' కూడా విడుదలైంది. 30 ఏళ్ళ క్రితం ప్రసిద్ధ నిర్మాత ఎంఎస్ రాజు, దర్శకుడు గుణశేఖర్ కి తొలి అవకాశమిచ్చి తమిళ హీరో ప్రశాంత్, తమిళ విలన్ రఘువరన్ లతో తెలుగులో 'లాఠీ' అని తీస్తే మంచి హిట్టయ్యింది. ఉత్తమ తొలి సినిమా దర్శకుడుగా గుణశేఖర్ కి నంది అవార్డు కూడా లభించింది. మరో రెండు అవార్డులు ఎడిటర్ కి, కెమెరా మాన్ కీ లభించాయి. పోలీస్ లాఠీ అంటే ఏంటో పవర్ఫుల్ గా చూపించిన ఈ సినిమా ముందు విశాల్ 'లాఠీ' ఏ స్థానంలో నిలబడుతుందనేది ప్రశ్న. దీనికి సమాధానం ఏం చెబుతుందో, ఈ కొత్త దర్శకుడు ఏం కొత్త పోలీసు కథ చెప్పాడో వివరాల్లోకి వెళ్ళి చూద్దాం...

మురళీ కృష్ణ (విశాల్) ఒక కానిస్టేబుల్. అతడికి భార్య కవిత (సునైనా), కొడుకూ వుంటారు. ఆనందమయ జీవితం గడుపుతూంటాడు. ఓ రోజు డ్యూటీలో భాగంగా ఒకడ్ని లాఠీ పెట్టి విపరీతంగా కొట్టి సస్పెండ్ అయిపోతాడు. కొన్నాళ్ళ తర్వాత డిఐజి కమల్ (ప్రభు) మంచి తనం వల్ల ఉద్యోగంలో చేరతాడు. ఇంకో రోజు డాన్ సూరా (సన్నీ పిఎన్) కొడుకు వీర (రమణ) డిఐజి కమల్ కూతుర్ని వేధిస్తాడు. దీంతో డిఐజి కమల్ వాడ్ని కిడ్నాప్ చేసి లాకప్ లో వేసి, మురళీ కృష్ణని పిలిచి లాఠీ పెట్టి బాగా విరగదీయమని ఆదేశిస్తాడు. వీర ఎవరో తెలియని మురళీ కృష్ణ వీరని లాఠీ పెట్టి బాగా విరగదీస్తాడు. కొడుకు వీరని రాజకీయ ప్రవేశం చేయించాలని ప్రయత్నాల్లో వుంటాడు సూరా. లాకప్ లో వొళ్ళు హూనమయ్యేసరికి మురళీ కృష్ణ మీద పగబడతాడు. ఈ క్రమంలో మురళీ కృష్ణ ఒంటరిగా తననీ, తన కుటుంబాన్నీ ఎలా కాపాడుకున్నాడన్నది మిగతా కథ.

ఎలా వుంది కథ

ఇంకో విశాల్ బ్రాండ్ పాత మోడల్ కథే. పోలీసు కానిస్టేబుల్, డిఐజి కూతురు, డాన్, డాన్ కొడుకు వంటి మూస ఫార్ములా పాత్రలతో; డిఐజి కూతుర్ని డాన్ కొడుకు వేధిస్తే, కానిస్టేబుల్ కొట్టడం, కానిస్టేబుల్ మీద డాన్ పగబట్టడం వంటి పాత మూస కథనం తోడై సినిమా ప్రాణం తీసింది. నేటి కాలానికి సరిపడే ఓ మార్కెట్ య్యాస్పెక్ట్ గానీ, దానికి అనుగుణమైన క్రియేటివ్ యాస్పెక్ట్ గానీ కొత్త దర్శకుడికి తెలీక తను చూసిన పాత సినిమాలే సినిమా అనుకుని చుట్టేసినట్టుంది. ఫలితంగా ఈ కథకి కనీస బాక్సాఫీసు అప్పీల్ గానీ, యూత్ అప్పీల్ గానీ కానరాకుండా పోయాయి. ఇందులో ఫ్యామిలీ సెంటిమెంటు జోడించి ఎమోషన్లు పెంచాలనుకున్నాడు. ఆ పాత ఫ్యామిలీ కథ కూడా ఎమోషన్లు పెరిగేంతగా లేకపోవడంతో పూర్తిగా విశాల్ చేజారిపోయి- బి గ్రేడ్ మాస్ ప్రేక్షకుల సినిమాగా మిగిలింది.

ఫస్టాఫ్ విశాల్ ఉద్యోగం పోగొట్టుకున్న జీవితం, భార్యతో కొడుకుతో కుటుంబ కష్టాలు, డాన్ కొడుకుని కొట్టడంతో ఆ కష్టాలు మరింత పెరిగి సెకండాఫ్ కి రంగం సిద్ధం కావడం జరిగి, సెకండాఫ్ లో పగబట్టిన డాన్ తో పోరాటం సాగి సాగి- కొడుకు కిడ్నాప్ తో ఓ భవనంలో బందీ అయిపోతుంది కథ. అక్కడ 45 నిమిషాలూ ఇంకా సాగదీసిన కథతో యాక్షన్ క్లయిమాక్స్, ముగింపూ.

చివరి 45 నిమిషాలు యాక్షన్ నిలబడిందా అంటే, భవనంలో అక్కడక్కడే కొట్టుకుంటూ సహనాన్ని పరీక్షిస్తుంది. ఎంతకీ ముగియని క్లయిమాక్స్ ప్రేక్షకుల మీద లాఠీ చార్జి లా వుంటుంది. గాయాలతో బయటపడేసరికి రెండున్నర గంటలు గడిచిపోతాయి. కథకి లాజిక్ కూడా వుండదు. తన అవసరానికి కానిస్టేబుల్ ని ఉపయోగించుకున్న డిజిపి, అదే విలన్ తో ప్రమాదంలో పడితే కనిపించకుండా పోతాడు డిజిపి. ఇది కానిస్టేబుల్ ఒంటరి పోరాటం చేసే కథ కాబట్టి డిపార్ట్ మెంట్ అతడ్ని అతడి ఖర్మానికి వదిలేయా

లన్నట్టు మాయమైపోతారు. ఇలా విశాల్ ఆఖరికి ఇలాటి సినిమాతో లాఠీ చార్జి కూడా చేశాక, ఇలాటి సినిమా ఇదే చివరిదవుతుందా, లేక ఉరికంబం ఎక్కించే ఇంకో సినిమా వస్తుందా చూడాలి.

నటనలు- సాంకేతికాలు

విశాల్ నిజాయితీగా కష్టపడ్డాడు. సామాన్య కానిస్టేబుల్ పాత్రలో సహజత్వంతో ఇమిడిపోయేందుకు ప్రయత్నించాడు. ఉద్యోగం పట్ల నిబద్ధత వరకూ ఓకే, కానీ ఫ్యామిలీ సీన్లు సరిగ్గా లేక పాత్రతో బాటు నటన కుదర్లేదు. యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ లో మాత్రం విజృంభించాడు. రిస్కు తీసుకుని కొన్ని యాక్షన్ బిట్స్ నటించాడు. యాక్షన్ డైరెక్టర్ పీటర్ హెయిన్స్ చాలా కాలం తర్వాత తన స్కిల్స్ చూపించాడు. 45 నిమిషాల యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ కరువుదీరా కంపోజ్ చేశాడు.

కవితా పాత్రలో సునైనా ఫర్వాలేదు. ఎక్కువ కనపడని పాత్ర. క్లయిమాక్స్ కొడుకు పాత్రలో చైల్డ్ ఆర్టిస్టు చుట్టూ వుంటుంది. భయం, ఏడుపు వగైరా బాగా నటించాడు. ఇక నాటు విలన్ గా సన్నీ, అతడి నాటు కొడుకుగా రమణ క్రూడ్ గా నటించారు.

సాంకేతికంగా బాగా ఖర్చుపెట్టారు. కానీ కొత్త దర్శకుడు వినోద్ కుమార్ అరిగిపోయిన పాత కథని దాదాపు రెండు గంటలు బలహీన దర్శకత్వంతో ఎలాగో క్లయిమాక్స్ కి చేర్చి, సినిమాని విశాల్ - పీటర్ హెయిన్స్ చేతుల్లో పెట్టేశాడు. వీళ్ళిద్దరూ ప్రేక్షకుల మీద లాఠీ చార్జి చేశారు!

Performances Vishal is struck in Pandemkodi that released seventeen years back. He chose same template films and continues the same acting he always does. He may have even lost the count of the roles he did in same pattern with only cosmetic changes.

The Emotional act of Vishal during the climax is an indication of how he did not improve a bit as an actor beyond that loud performances. The expressions he maintains in the scene evoke laughter and irritates the audience.

Sunaina plays the wife character. She looks good and is okay with the performance. Prabhu is seen in a cameo kind of role and is okay. Munishkanth appears in a little role and is alright in whatever he is given. The artists who played villains are totally ineffective. Particularly the one who played Sura is even silly. Bad writing of their characters make them look even bad. The other characters are mostly trivial.

Analysis A Vinoth Kumar has selected a cop story with family emotions for his Laati with Vishal. Pon Parthiban has written the story.

In a cop story, we expect heroism in the character but that is only confined to the first and last blocks of the film. The family story needs proper establishment of the characters and the bonding between them. Even though there is a premise for that to happen nothing really works due to bad writing.

There are lots of inconsistencies in the character of Murali Krishna. He is introduced as a stubborn, upright cop and later his character turns meek for the most part of the film. And suddenly towards the end, there is a bland drama in the name of twists that rather appear silly.

There are multiple threads in the story – a Rape case, father-son track, Police drama, Politics, Revenge, etc. Even though the director tries to embed multiple threads into one story. It is like all of them are routine and beaten to death. Even if they are neatly handled, the movie will still be routine and boring.

Finally, Laati is forgettable attempt by Vishal. Beaten to death story, hollow characterizations, Bland writing, and inspid narration makes the movie a bad experience for the audience. High time Vishal reinvents himself and come out with something interesting and sensible.

Music and Other Departments? A Vinoth Kumar and Pon Parthiban have cooked a bland and boring story. The dialogues also barely worked. In terms of the other Technical Departments, Sam CS’s background score is only a bit noticeable. It has worked at places and in some places, the background score is good but did not work with the scenes. There are a couple of songs that are just for namesake. The cinematography is very average. The film feels lengthy even at a usual runtime.

Drawbacks? Poor Writing Boring & Predictable Scenes Lack of Logic Climax

జయాపజయాలతో సంబంధం లేకుండా వరుసగా సినిమాలు చేసే హీరో విశాల్ (Vishal). యాక్షన్ జానర్‌లో వైవిధ్యమైన కథలతో సినిమాలు చేస్తుంటారు. ఆయన నటించిన తాజా సినిమా 'లాఠీ'. సాధారణంగా పోలీస్ కథలు అంటే హీరోలను ఐఏఎస్, మరీ తక్కువ అంటే ఎస్ఐగా చూపిస్తారు. కానీ, ఈ సినిమాలో హీరో ఓ కానిస్టేబుల్. ఈ కథ ఎలా ఉంది? సినిమాను ఎలా తీశారు (Laththi Telugu Review)? అనేది చూస్తే..   

కథ (Laththi Movie Story) :  కథ : జి. మురళీ కృష్ణ (విశాల్) కానిస్టేబుల్. ఓ కేసు విషయంలో సస్పెండ్ అవుతాడు. మళ్లీ ఉద్యోగంలో జాయిన్ కావడం కోసం ఉన్నతాధికారుల చుట్టూ తిరుగుతాడు. గతంలో నిజాయతీగా పని చేసినందుకు ప్రతిఫలంగా ఓ అధికారి సాయం చేస్తాడు. మళ్ళీ ఉద్యోగంలో చేరతాడు. భార్య కవి (సునైన), కుమారుడు రాజు (మాస్టర్ లిరిష్ రాఘవ్)తో హ్యాపీగా జీవిస్తున్న మురళీ కృష్ణ ముందు ప్రాణాలు పోగొట్టుకోవాల్సిన పరిస్థితి వస్తుంది. చీకటి ప్రపంచానికి దాదా శూర (సన్నీ పీఎన్), అతని కొడుకు వీర (నటుడు రమణ) అటాక్ చేస్తారు. ఓ సాధారణ కానిస్టేబుల్ కోసం సిటీలో రౌడీలు, పోకిరీలు అందరూ ఎందుకు వచ్చారు? ఎందుకు చంపాలని కంకణం కట్టుకున్నారు? ఆ తర్వాత ఏమైంది? కరుడుగట్టిన కూనీకొరులతో పోరాడి ప్రాణాలతో బయటపడ్డాడా? లేదా? అనేది సినిమా చూసి తెలుసుకోవాలి.

విశ్లేషణ (Laatti Review In Telugu ) : 'లాఠీ' టైటిల్ వింటే, ట్రైలర్ చూస్తే... అవుట్ & అవుట్ యాక్షన్ ఎంటర్‌టైనర్ సినిమా అనుకుంటారు. అలాగని, థియేటర్లలో అడుగు పెడితే పప్పులో కాలు వేసినట్టే. సినిమా ఫస్టాఫ్ అంతా యాక్షన్ కంటే రెగ్యులర్ సీన్స్ ఎక్కువ ఉన్నాయి. 

'లాఠీ'లో జస్ట్ యాక్షన్ మాత్రమే కాదు... తండ్రీ కొడుకుల అనుబంధం ఉంది. కన్న కొడుకు కోసం తండ్రి పడే తపన ఉంది. భార్యాభర్తల మధ్య అనుబంధం ఉంది. ఓ నిజాయతీపరుడు కానిస్టేబుల్ అయితే ఎలా ఉంటుందో చూపించారు. వీటన్నిటి కంటే ముఖ్యంగా సమాజంలో మహిళలపై నిత్యం జరిగే అఘాయిత్యాన్ని, సభ్య సమాజంలో ఆ తప్పు చేసి దర్జాగా తిరిగే మానవ మృగాలకు ఎటువంటి శిక్ష పడాలని జనాలు కోరుకుంటారో... అటువంటి శిక్ష ఉంటుంది. అయితే... ఎక్కడా ఎప్పుడూ ఆ ఎమోషన్స్ ప్రేక్షకులను టచ్ చేసేలా లేవు. ఏదో రెగ్యులర్, రొటీన్ సినిమా చూసినట్టు ఉంటుంది. 

'లాఠీ'లో చివరి అరగంట యాక్షన్ బావుంది. ఒక దశలో ఆ యాక్షన్ కూడా సాగదీసిన ఫీలింగ్ ఉంటుంది. సుదీర్ఘంగా సాగుతుంది. పాత సినిమాలు చూసినట్టే ఉంటుంది. ఆ యాక్షన్ ఎఫెక్టివ్‌గా ఉండటానికి కారణం అంతకు ముందు సన్నివేశాలు. క్లుప్తంగా చెప్పాల్సిన సన్నివేశాలను చాలా సాగదీశారు. అందువల్ల, ఏదో చూస్తున్న ఫీలింగ్ ఉంటుంది తప్ప మనం ఎంజాయ్ చేయలేము. లాజిక్స్‌కు సుదూరంగా కథ, కథనాలు ఉంటాయి. పోలీస్ ఇన్వెస్టిగేషన్ ఎక్కడా ఉండదు. మంచి పాయింట్ తీసుకుని కథ స్టార్ట్ చేసినప్పటికీ... దానిని ఒక రివేంజ్ ఫార్ములా కథగా మార్చేశారు. టెక్నికల్ పరంగా సినిమాలో చెప్పుకోదగ్గ అంశాలు లేవు. యువన్ శంకర్ రాజా సంగీతం అందించారంటే నమ్మేలా లేదు. ట్విస్టులు ఊహించడం పెద్ద కష్టం ఏమీ కాదు. 

నటీనటులు ఎలా చేశారంటే? : విశాల్‌కు యాక్షన్ హీరో ఇమేజ్ ఉంది. ఫైట్స్ బాగా చేస్తారు. ఆయన సినిమాల్లో ఎక్కువ యాక్షన్ డామినేట్ చేస్తూ ఉంటుంది. అయితే, 'లాఠీ'లో ఎమోషనల్ సన్నివేశాల్లో నటనకు విశాల్‌కు పేరు వస్తుంది. సినిమా చివరి అరగంటలో యాక్షన్ అండ్ ఎమోషన్‌తో నటించిన తీరు బావుంటుంది. సునైనకు స్క్రీన్ మీద తక్కువ స్పేస్ లభించింది. పాత్ర వరకు ఆమె బాగా చేశారు. హీరో కుమారుడిగా మాస్టర్ లిరిష్ రాఘవ్ బావున్నాడు. ప్రభు, తలైవాసన్ విజయ్ రెండు మూడు సన్నివేశాల్లో కనిపించారు. శూర, వీరలుగా సన్నీ పీఎన్, రమణ జస్ట్ ఓకే. వాళ్ళిద్దరి బదులు పేరున్న నటులను తీసుకుని ఉంటే ఇంపాక్ట్ బావుండేది.

ఫైనల్‌గా చెప్పేది ఏంటంటే? : సినిమాలో చివరి అరగంట యాక్షన్  సన్నివేశాలను డిజైన్ చేసిన విధానం బావుంది. ఆ ఎపిసోడ్ కోసం అంతకు ముందు సుమారు రెండు గంటలు థియేటర్లలో కూర్చుకోవడం చాలా కష్టం. ఆ ఎపిసోడ్‌లో సాగదీతను భరించడం కూడా ఒక దశ దాటిన తర్వాత కష్టమే. 'లాఠీ'లో అటు ఉత్కంఠ లేదు, ఇటు హార్ట్ టచ్ చేసే ఎమోషన్ లేదు. ఉన్నదంతా జస్ట్ యాక్షన్. సినిమా స్టార్టింగ్‌లో కొన్ని సీన్లు బావున్నాయి. 'అభిమన్యుడు' చేసిన విశాల్... మధ్యలో ఇటువంటి యాక్షన్ రొటీన్ సినిమాలు చేయడం ఆశ్చర్యం అనిపిస్తోంది. 'లాఠీ' క్లైమాక్స్ ఫైట్ సాగుతూ ఉంటే ప్రేక్షకులపై లాఠీ ఛార్జ్ చేసినట్లు ఉంటుంది. రౌడీలతో పాటు ప్రేక్షకులను కుమ్మేసినట్టు ఉంటుంది.

Vishal’s last few films have been a disaster and the actor pinned all his hopes on his upcoming mass entertainer Lathi. The film has hit the theaters today, and let’s see how the film is.

The plot revolves around Muruganandam (Vishal) who is a very loyal and sincere constable. He is married to Kavitha (Sunaina) and lives a happy life with his 10-year-old son. Twist in the tale takes place when he finds his son trapped in the hands of a terrifying gang. The rest of the story is what Muruga did to save his son.

What’s Entertaining & What’s Boring:

Laathi is a purely commercial and out and out action film. Throughout the film, the director aimed at the mass audience. Also Vishal’s performance was perfect in every frame. Conflict point in the second half is good.

However, there is nothing new in the movie plot and most of the scenes are very routine. Apart from this lengthy action sequence, the film looks pretty regular.

Performance of Cast & Crew

Vishal did complete justice to his character. He shines effortlessly in all the action sequences and his efforts as mentioned before was seen in every action scene. Sunaina is good in her role.Prabhu, Munishkanth, Thalaivasal Vijay and Misha Ghoshal have played their parts well.

The movie has decent technical values. Editing could be a little better in the first half as there are few unnecessary scenes. Production values are best. Cinematography by Balasubramaniam & Balakrishna Thota is good. Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is just average. Coming to the director, he has just done an average job. He fails in delivering new and entertaining content, but he succeeds in offering some effective action sequences that keeps the audience engaged.

First Half & Second Half:

First half has nothing new to offer. It is only in the second half, where a conflict point engages us and makes us glued to the screens with the best designed action sequences.

Overall, Lathi is not a story that has never been seen before. Just the fight sequence composed by Peter Hein and conflict points in the second half are the only highlights of the movie. Rest of the film stays utterly routine.

Tamil actor Vishal has managed to gain a good following for himself among the Telugu audience, thanks to the many successful mass films that he has been a part of, which have been released in Telugu. Vishal comes up with several films in a year, and now he has come up with Lathi, directed by A Vinoth. Let’s see how the film has turned out to be.

Lathi is about a constable, Murali Krishna, who gets suspended after he Lathi charges on a rape convict. Murali Krishna manages to get back his job, and that too, with the help of a prominent police officer. However, it is then that his life changes completely. The police officer asks Murali Krishna to Lathi charge against a criminal. This puts Murali and his family at major risk. What happens ultimately forms the rest of the story.

On-Screen Performances:

Vishal is the same, just like with any of his other films. There’s no change in his looks or body language either. In fact, Vishal has already been seen as a police officer in his previous movies, so there’s absolutely nothing new that the actor offers his audience here. His performance is also one note, with the actor’s expressions looking too fake and dramatic in certain sequences, While there’s a lot of scope for Vishal as an actor, he seems to have made up his mind to do just a certain kind of roles in his career, and thus, has been churning out one bad movie and performance after the other. In fact, in some areas, it looks as though Vishal is not even interested in playing his character.

Sunaina is seen as Vishal’s wife in the film, and she’s just about okay. Prabhu is seen in a cameo role in the film, and he’s good in his part. Apart from that, no one else really makes an impression in the movie.

Off-Screen Talents:

The film has been directed by A Vinoth, while the story has been penned by Pon Parthiban. Neither of them seem to have been able to come up with an entertaining story, and ended up making a very routine and dull film. The screenplay is entirely predictable and the narration is too dull and boring. There’s not even a single saving factor for the film. From start to finish, Vinoth and Pon have made a film that appeals to no one.

The background score by Sam CS is the only vaguely good thing about the film, but the songs are entirely forgettable. The cinematography is just average, and so is the production design. The editing could have been so much better.

Verdict: If and only if you’re a die hard fan of Vishal will you be able to even tolerate the film. Otherwise, Lathi is one movie you can safely skip and have a better time elsewhere.

Recently the trailer of this film was released and it became a trend. Vishal is playing the role of a police officer in the film. In this, Vishal, who lives happily with a wife and child, loses his police post due to some reasons.

After that he rejoins the police department on his son's request. And in the film, he beats up the baddies with the lathi in his hand. Vishal shouts out the lines that if the higher officials ask the police to beat them with a lathi, it is not an order, but an offer. In this trailer, Yuvan Shankar Raja's BGM has worked out on another level. The film is releasing in five languages namely Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

He is very good actor who proved his mettle with brilliant performances in many films like Chellamey, Sandakozhi, Thimiru, Thamirabarani and Avan Ivan. But later he started concentrating more on commercial success rather than working on performance oriented films. Laththi looks promising like a good combination of both commercial elements and Vishal's performance. Hope he comes back to the track after 6 consecutive flops with this film.
