Summer is in full swing and with fall just around the corner, schools are busy planning back to school professional development events. Every year, school administrators need to find new ways to motivate and inspire teachers . It's important to start the year with excitement and energy, so below are some thoughts pulled together in a motivational speech that can be borrowed to motivate educators. I am a keynote speaker for over 10 education events per year and I find educators and support staff need inspiration more than ever.

As we kick off the new year, many of you come here will new enthusiasm, excitement, and energy.

Every new year you stand in front of your classroom, and you ask, how am I going to take this group from where they are to where they need to be?

Because every student deserves a great education. However, building people up takes energy, Building people up takes passion and grit. Building people up takes determination.

We've heard all of this before, and if you say it long enough, and if you say it with passion- people start to believe it.

Many days you come to work when you don't feel like it -but you fake the enthusiasm and muster the energy anyways. Because you won't let your students down.

Teaching requires passion and joy . We know passion is contagious; Energy is contagious, Ambition is contagious.

We are grateful for the positive motivation you bring to each school year.

The most valuable thing we have is time and attention. If time is the most valuable and precious thing we have, it's also the most precious thing we can give. Every day you give that to a student, a student that may not get much of anyone's time or attention.

Today students spend too much time on technology, instead of connecting and building real relationships.

However, when you talk about a world of instant gratification, there’s a problem with it.

If you grow up in a world where you are instantly gratified to do what you want to do, a lot of things that build success don’t require that.

Now we need to teach students delayed gratification, because If you don’t sacrifice for something you don’t value it.

One of the most important things we bring to the classroom is the work ethic. Are we working harder? Are we getting better?

Let’s teach students to solve problems , instead of looking for opportunities.

This year, let's bring the energy, passion, and determination back to our school. Students deserve the best education they can get, and we are prepared to give it to them.

However, if I asked you who was the second person, I barely hope that I will get any answers.

Because, traditionally, we do not value the second or third positions as much as we should. After all, it is not only the first person who deserves fame, a name, and a notable status. Whether you believe it or not, each and everyone deserves it because we all work hard and give our best.

However, at the end of the day, what matters most is where do you stand relative to your yesterday, not your school fellow who probably performed better than you. Additionally, those who have invested their best but they were not able to manage a victory, keep working hard because hard work pays off.

After all “Patience and Perseverance” are a couple of secrets to success. With that being said, I would like to thank you all for your patience and time. And once again, welcome back to (insert name of the school here).

Dear Students and Colleagues,

It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to the new academic year. While some of you are returning to familiar surroundings, others, like me, are newcomers to UM-Dearborn. Together we are embarking on an exciting new year!

The opportunity to spend time on a major university campus, studying what interests you, creating new knowledge to address challenges and opportunities that face the region, the nation, and the planet, and, most importantly, engaging in the great debates that define our times, is both an immense privilege and a major responsibility.

By virtue of these efforts, we collectively define the future. Our students, who will transition to our graduates, will become leaders in corporate, governmental, professional, community service, and non-governmental organizations where their UM-Dearborn preparation will serve them well in devising holistic solutions to complex issues. Similarly, our distinguished faculty and staff are working toward addressing some of the most perplexing and vexing challenges facing our community and our nation while educating and supporting our students in their academic aspirations.

To be sure, for us to maximize our impact we must dare mightily -

Dare to ask questions so we can truly understand

Dare to follow our passion and break new ground

Dare to stand up for justice and equity and vanquish threats to both

Dare to create new technologies and policies in the interest of humanity and the planet

Dare to climb the ladder of success and not pull it up behind us but rather extend it down even further

As is well known, UM-Dearborn was founded as an experimental campus - Daring is in our DNA. But daring is not for the faint of heart. President Theodore Roosevelt inspiringly remarked that “far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat." Do not fear failure...like a caring family, your campus community is here to support you and pick you up should you fail. This is your time to dare.

Indeed, when I speak to Princeton alumni about their education, the word they use most often is “transformative.” I would say that about my own undergraduate career at Princeton, and Anthony Romero said that about his time here. I want it to be true of yours.

Transformation is a wonderful thing. It’s also very demanding. It brings worry along with joy, frustration along with happiness. That’s okay; indeed, that is part of what it means to get a great education.

Professor Toni Morrison, one of the world’s greatest novelists, wrote that at Princeton “Every doorway, every tree and turn is haunted by peals of laughter, murmurs of loyalty and love, tears of pleasure and sorrow and triumph.” [1]

I like this passage very much, partly because it recognizes that learning and growth are not easy, not for anyone. There will inevitably be not just triumphs but also sorrows, not just laughter but also tears, when we challenge ourselves, when we develop and change, and when we care deeply—as we should, as we must—about our academic and co-curricular endeavors and our community.

As you think about your own Princeton careers, you have an extraordinary example in Maria Ressa—a member of the Great Class of 1986, not to mention the winner of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize—who, in this year’s Princeton Pre-read, writes candidly about the transformations that she experienced at Princeton and after her graduation.

For example, she recounts first-year conversations with her classmate Leslie Tucker, whose blunt, direct criticism taught Maria that “to have a clear view of the world, you have to ask yourself the toughest questions.” [2] Maria describes how her relationship with Leslie began with an uncomfortable classroom conversation that became the foundation for a lifelong friendship and “transformed [Maria’s] way of being in the world.” [3]

Maria writes that for two weeks during her junior year, she could not control her anger, “which kept erupting in strange flashes” after her acting teacher encouraged her to express emotions she had previously suppressed. [4]

And she tells us that her senior thesis involved writing a play that was her “own private exorcism,” leading up to an opening night performance that left both Maria and her parents in tears. [5]

These experiences were life-changing for Maria. They were transformative. But they were not easy.

Your Princeton experience, of course, will differ from Maria Ressa’s. It will be uniquely yours. I expect, though, that your path through Princeton, like Maria’s, will include inspiration but also anger, discoveries that may elicit both enlightenment and tears, and lasting friendships along with vexing challenges.

All of that is necessary to an undergraduate education that, in Maria’s words, inspires students to “think for [themselves],” “nurtur[es] [their] tendency to inquiry,” and encourages them to “prob[e] why we [are] on this planet and what [each of us is] here to do.” [6]

Maria offers advice about how she navigated the challenges she confronted at Princeton and beyond. She says that she had to “lear[n] to trust: to drop [her] shields and be vulnerable.” [7]

Admitting that we need help is hard, and doing so can be especially difficult for students who attend Princeton—you are all extraordinarily talented and you are accustomed to succeeding.

I experienced this personally. When I came to Princeton as a student (long, long, long ago!), I took a physics class that was too advanced for me, and I struggled throughout my first year. I was too proud, though, to ask anyone for help. I wanted to prove that I could get through it myself. That was a mistake, and it made that year much tougher than it needed to be.

I hope you’ll follow Maria’s example, not mine! If Maria Ressa, a courageous journalist whom Amal Clooney describes as a “superhero,” [8] can admit her vulnerability and trust in the goodness of others, then so should the rest of us.

You will find yourself surrounded by supportive people at Princeton—classmates, professors, deans, chaplains, counselors, and coaches, to name just a few. But you need to be strong enough to ask for help when you need it, which, at some point, you will, because that is part of what it means to get a really good education.

If you do, I suspect that you’ll not only find people ready to assist, but that you might also form relationships that last long beyond your time on this campus. As Maria says, “when you’re vulnerable, you create the strongest bonds and the most inspiring possibilities.” [9]

I hope, too, that you will look for opportunities to support those around you and to help them thrive on this campus. We are fortunate to be together on a campus and in a community with strong commitments to diversity and inclusivity, but we live in a time of intense social conflict, when hateful speech is too common and when some people prefer to stoke division rather than build a shared common good.

I thought about those schisms while reading another part of Maria Ressa’s story, when she recounts her recognition, some years after graduating from Princeton, that she is gay.

Maria writes about how it felt to “throw away gender signals ingrained since birth,” and about the rejection she experienced from friends and relatives. She also describes what it was like to be “working in several countries where it was illegal to be gay.” [10]

Until recently, many of us dared to hope that such experiences would become a thing of the past. We believed that this country was on a path toward full inclusion and respect for LGBTQ and non-binary identities. I hope that it still is.

In the last few years, however, we have seen increasing numbers of vitriolic and unjust attacks directed at gay and trans people in the United States. [11] These attacks are cruel, they are heart-breaking, and they are wrong.

Always, and especially now, this campus must stand firmly for equality, inclusion, and respect. Our community must be a place where students, faculty, and staff of all identities feel fully welcome, free to express themselves, and able to participate fully in the transformational educational experiences that Princeton offers.

Of course, that does not mean that we will all agree with one another. On the contrary, I expect that you will disagree with one another, with your professors, and, for that matter, with me. You are free to do that; indeed, you are encouraged to do that.

Engaged discussion and passionate argument are essential to a college education. So too are mutual respect and collegial support that allow us to learn and grow together.

We can, and should, aspire both to think critically and to embrace generously. I hope that is the path you choose while you are here at Princeton and throughout your lives.

Please let me close by saying that I am so looking forward to getting to know the Great Class of 2027 in the days, months, and years ahead. I am so glad that you are here, full and welcome members of this community.

Rather than indulging excessively in television, I’ll explore a sport or work on my hobby I enjoy and engage in it to stay happy, physically fit and sharp. I’ll prioritize respect toward my parents, teachers, and elders, as it’s an integral part of ones life.

Good manners shape our personality. These adjustments will contribute to enhancing my character. My New Year’s resolutions won’t just help in shedding bad habits and adopting good ones, but they’ll also pave the way for a brighter future and success at every walk of life.

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community:

We open this new academic year filled with hope for the work we will accomplish together over these next few months. Already, new and returning students have begun to fill our residence halls, our libraries and laboratories, our classrooms and social spaces. Members of our community are beginning to experience our growing Capitol Campus , just steps from the U.S. Capitol. Our Hilltop is seeing new upgrades to infrastructure and sustainability . There is much to look forward to in the weeks and months ahead.

On behalf of President DeGioia, we take this opportunity to welcome all of you: new and returning students, faculty, and staff to our new academic year at Georgetown.

Over these past few weeks, we have been working with the senior leadership of the University to ensure continuity and continued success for our community this semester as President DeGioia continues his recovery from the stroke he experienced this summer.

He is making progress in his rehabilitation, bolstered by the terrific support of his family, an outstanding medical team, and many messages of encouragement from our community. He has asked us to convey his deep appreciation to all of you.

As we gather together in the opening days of the academic year, let us acknowledge our responsibilities to one another and as members of this community as we are guided by the University’s mission statement:

NEW YORK (AP) — A mass deportation operation. A new Muslim ban. Tariffs on all imported goods and “freedom cities” built on federal land.

Much of the 2024 presidential campaign has been dominated by the myriad investigations into former President Donald Trump and the subsequent charges against him. But with less than a year until Election Day, Trump is dominating the race for the Republican nomination and has already laid out a sweeping set of policy goals should he win a second term.

His ideas, and even the issues he focuses on most, are wildly different from President Joe Biden’s proposals . If implemented, Trump’s plans would represent a dramatic government overhaul arguably more consequential than that of his first term. His presidency, especially the early days, was marked by chaos, infighting and a wave of hastily written executive orders that were quickly overturned by the courts.

Some of his current ideas would probably end up in court or impeded by Congress. But Trump’s campaign and allied groups are assembling policy books with detailed plans.

A look at his agenda:

DISMANTLING THE ‘DEEP STATE’

Trump would try to strip tens of thousands of career employees of their civil service protections. That way, they could be fired as he seeks to “totally obliterate the deep state.”

He would try to accomplish that by reissuing a 2020 executive order known as “Schedule F.” That would allow him to reclassify masses of employees, with a particular focus, he has said, on “corrupt bureaucrats who have weaponized our justice system” and “corrupt actors in our national security and intelligence apparatus.” Given his anger at the FBI and federal prosecutors pursuing criminal cases against him, Trump probably would target people linked to those prosecutions for retribution.

Beyond the firings, he wants to crack down on government officials who leak to reporters. He also wants to require that federal employees pass a new civil service test.

THE U.S.-MEXICO BORDER

Trump has pledged to “immediately stop the invasion of our southern border” and end illegal immigration.

As part of that plan, he says he would immediately direct U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to undertake the largest domestic deportation operation in American history. He would target people who are legally living in the United States but harbor “jihadist sympathies” and revoke the student visas of those who espouse anti-American and antisemitic views.

In a bid to secure the U.S.-Mexico border, Trump says he will move thousands of troops currently stationed overseas and shift federal agents, including those at the Drug Enforcement Administration and FBI, to immigration enforcement. He also wants to build more of the border wall.

Trump wants to reimpose his travel ban that originally targeted seven Muslim-majority countries and expand it to “keep radical Islamic terrorists out of the country.” In the wake of the Hamas attack on Israel, he has pledged to put in place “ideological screening” for immigrants. His aim: bar “dangerous lunatics, haters, bigots, and maniacs,” as well as those who “empathize with radical Islamic terrorists and extremists.”

To deter migrants, he has said he would end birthright citizenship, using an an executive order that would introduce a legally untested interpretation of the 14th Amendment. The order would prevent federal agencies from granting automatic citizenship to the children of people who are in the U.S. illegally. It would require that at least one parent be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident for their children to be eligible for passports, Social Security numbers and other benefits.

Trump says he will institute a system of tariffs of perhaps 10% on most foreign goods. Penalties would increase if trade partners manipulate their currencies or engage in other unfair trading practices.

He will urge that Congress pass a “Trump Reciprocal Trade Act,” giving the president authority to impose a reciprocal tariff on any country that imposes one on the U.S.

Much of the agenda focuses on China. Trump has proposed a four-year plan to phase out Chinese imports of essential goods, including electronics, steel and pharmaceuticals. He wants to ban Chinese companies from owning vital U.S. infrastructure in sectors such as energy, technology and agriculture, and says he will force Chinese owners to sell any holdings “that jeopardize America’s national security.”

FOREIGN POLICY

Trump claims that even before he is inaugurated, he will have settled the war between Russia and Ukraine. That includes, he says, ending the “endless flow of American treasure to Ukraine” and asking European allies to reimburse the U.S. for the cost of rebuilding stockpiles.

It is unclear whether he would insist that Russia withdraw from territory in Ukraine it seized in the war that it launched in February 2022.

Trump has said he will stand with Israel in its war with Hamas and support Israel’s efforts to “destroy” the militant group. He says he will continue to “fundamentally reevaluate” NATO’s purpose and mission.

TRANSGENDER RIGHTS

Trump says he will ask Congress to pass a bill establishing that “only two genders,” as determined at birth, are recognized by the United States.

As part of his crackdown on gender-affirming care, he will declare that hospitals and health care providers that offer transitional hormones or surgery no longer meet federal health and safety standards and will be blocked from receiving federal funds, including Medicaid and Medicare dollars.

He would push Congress to prohibit hormonal or surgical intervention for transgender minors in all 50 states.

Doctors typically guide kids toward therapy before medical intervention. At that point, hormone treatments such as puberty blockers are far more common than surgery. They have been available in the U.S. for more than a decade and are standard treatments backed by major doctors’ organizations, including the American Medical Association.

Trump’s goal, he says, is for the U.S. to have the lowest-cost energy and electricity of any nation in the world, including China.

Under the mantra “DRILL, BABY, DRILL,” he says he would ramp up oil drilling on public lands and offer tax breaks to oil, gas, and coal producers. He would roll back Biden administration efforts to encourage the adoption of electric cars and reverse proposed new pollution limits that would require at least 54% of new vehicles sold in the U.S. to be electric by 2030.

And again, he says, he will exit the Paris Climate Accords, end wind subsidies and eliminate regulations imposed and proposed by the Biden admiration targeting incandescent lightbulbs, gas stoves, dishwashers and shower heads.

Trump has pledged to terminate the Department of Education, but he also wants to exert enormous influence over local school districts and colleges.

He would push the federal government to give funding preference to states and school districts that abolish teacher tenure, adopt merit pay to reward good teachers and allow the direct election of school principals by parents.

He has said he would cut funding for any school that has a vaccine or mask mandate and will promote prayer in public schools.

Trump also wants a say in school curricula, vowing to fight for “patriotic education.” He says that under his administration, schools will “teach students to love their country, not to hate their country like they’re taught right now” and will promote “the nuclear family” including “the roles of mothers and fathers” and the “things that make men and women different and unique.”

To protect students, he says he will support school districts that allow trained teachers to carry concealed weapons. He would provide federal funding so schools can hire veterans, retired police officers, and other trained gun owners as armed school guards.

HOMELESSNESS

Trump wants to force the homeless off city streets by building tent cities on large open parcels of inexpensive land. At the same time, he says he will work with states to ban urban camping, giving violators the choice between being arrested or receiving treatment.

He also wants to bring back large mental institutions to reinstitutionalize those who are “severely mentally ill” or “dangerously deranged.”

PUBLIC SAFETY

Trump would again push to send the National Guard to cities such as Chicago that are struggling with violence. He would use the federal government’s funding and prosecution authorities to strong-arm local governments.

He says he will require local law enforcement agencies that receive Justice Department grants to use controversial policing measures such as stop-and-frisk. As a deterrent, he says local police should be empowered to shoot suspected shoplifters in the act. “Very simply, if you rob a store, you can fully expect to be shot as you are leaving that store,” he said in one recent speech.

Trump has called for the death penalty for drug smugglers and those who traffic women and children. He has also pledged a federal takeover of the nation’s capital, calling Washington a “dirty, crime-ridden death trap” unbefitting of the country.

When the Victorian government announced its plans last year to raise the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 14, it was a signature Daniel Andrews move — bold, progressive, and tackling a politically dangerous issue.

In the year since state cabinet approved the decision, three innocent people have allegedly been killed in incidents involving young people in Victoria.

The most recent was on Sunday — when 19-year-old Davide Pollina was killed in a collision with an allegedly stolen car in Melbourne's north .

Police said the two occupants of the car fled. A 16-year-old boy was arrested a short time later. It's alleged he was a passenger in the car.

In July, a 28-year-old man was tragically killed after allegedly being hit by a stolen vehicle driven by a teenager — who breached bail within 48 hours of being arrested.

In January, 33-year-old doctor Ash Gordon was fatally stabbed following a confrontation with two teenagers who allegedly broke into his house in Doncaster.

In all three cases, the alleged offenders are youths, but not young — aged 16 and 17.

But with the state in the grip of a spike in violent youth crime, that hardly seems to matter.

This week, Victoria's upper house will debate the government's youth justice bill, which would cement the first step of Daniel Andrews's plan by raising the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 12.

But the next stage — raising the age from 12 to 14 in 2027 — has now been abandoned by the government , drawing condemnation from a broad range of legal groups.

'We're getting smashed on it': Labor MPs voice concerns over policy

Labor MPs have been openly voicing deep concern over community perceptions of crime for months.

In July, Police Minister Anthony Carbines conceded to The Age: "At 14, there are more serious offenders causing more serious crimes, and that's why there's a far longer lead time the government has put on that.

"The jury's out on whether we'll be able to demonstrate that, but it remains our commitment at this time."

But as one senior Labor figure told the ABC: "There's no way we're doing it. We're getting smashed on it."

And so it was that on Sunday — the day of the most recent death, and in the week Victoria's upper house is due to debate the bill that would raise the age to 12 — Andrews's successor Jacinta Allan was refusing to commit.

"I am not going to be drawn on what further changes the government may be considering," she said.

"There is a pattern of behaviour here that is causing harm and it's also causing me, and so many in the community, concern. We know we need to do more."

On Monday, she was evasive once again.

"We're having discussions … with Victoria Police, the courts, and the youth justice sector about what more we need to do," Allan said.

"I'm not going to pre-empt any discussions we're having as a cabinet or with colleagues. We are open to considering all options that are available to us."

Finally, on Tuesday, the premier fronted journalists to announce she would break the promise made by her predecessor.

"Twelve is where it [the criminal age of responsibility] will stay," she said.

"This decision has been made at a different time, by a different government, with a different premier."

Victoria pledges to go it alone on raising the age

In hindsight, it's not hard to see why Andrews went big on the age of responsibility. He first flagged the idea in February 2023, just three months after a landslide election win (and seven months before his surprise retirement).

At the time, there was a push for a national consensus between the states and the Commonwealth on raising the age to 14, but it was faltering.

As the nation's most senior premier, in its most progressive state, Andrews characteristically decided Victoria would go it alone.

Youth justice advocates from the Law Institute to the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) strongly backed the move.

The dumping of phase two of the plan is not the first time Victorian Labor's progressive ambitions on youth justice reform have been mugged by political reality.

In October last year — one month after a 14-year-old boy was abducted and attacked walking home from school — the government pulled the youth elements out of its bail reform legislation.

At the time, Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes acknowledged "public perceptions of a youth crime crisis" influenced the decision.

Instead of the planned change to a presumption of bail for all but the most serious youth offenders, it instead announced trials of ankle bracelets in March this year.

Government faces criticism from both sides of youth justice debate

The response from some legal groups to the government's decision on Tuesday to walk away from its promise to raise the age of criminal responsibility to 14 has been thunderous.

The VALS said the demonstration of "weak leadership and regressive decision making" demonstrated that the Victorian government wrote its promises "in the sand".

Its CEO, Yorta Yorta and Narrandjeri woman Nerita Waight, said it was "devastating" to see "hundreds of hours" of work on the reforms abandoned in the face of media scare campaigns over youth crime.

"We trusted the Victorian government and we have been betrayed by their treacherous decision to abandon our children," Ms Waight said.

"It will be very hard for Aboriginal communities to trust this government now that we know she [Premier Jacinta Allan] will ditch their commitments."

Victoria Police, on the other hand, has always opposed raising the age to 14.

"Because of the seriousness of offending — the levels of offending that we see with 12 and 13-year-olds involved in some really, really significant crimes — [raising the age to 14 is] not something I would support," Commissioner Shane Patton told Channel Seven in March.

Law and order is tough for governments, particularly Labor governments. Youth justice especially so.

In Queensland, a select cross-party committee fell apart amid bickering over how to manage the issue.

Victoria has a statistically lower rate of youth crime than all other jurisdictions except SA and the ACT, and a youth crime rate that was actually falling in the years before the pandemic.

But since then, not only have crime rates spiked, there's been a change in the type of crime being committed by young offenders — towards more crimes against the person — the kind of crime that goes the heart of community safety.

Former President Donald J. Trump held an hourlong news conference with reporters on Thursday at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, during which he attacked Vice President Kamala Harris, his general election opponent, criticized the Biden administration’s policies and boasted of the crowd size at his rallies. We took a closer look at many of his claims.

Trump claims his Jan. 6 rally crowd rivaled the 1963 March on Washington. Estimates say otherwise.

This lacks evidence.

Mr. Trump was talking about the crowds gathered for his speech on Jan. 6, 2021, and for the “I Have a Dream” speech the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered during the March on Washington in 1963. While it is difficult to gauge exact crowd sizes, estimates counter Mr. Trump’s claim that the numbers gathered were comparable. Dr. King’s speech drew an estimated 250,000 people . The House Select Committee responsible for investigating the events of Jan. 6 estimated that Mr. Trump’s speech drew 53,000 people.

Ms. Harris, in 2019, said she supports a gun buyback program for assault weapons, not all guns. Her campaign told The New York Times recently that she no longer supports a buyback program.

This is exaggerated..

President Biden has indeed tapped the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to try to mitigate gasoline price increases , drawing it down by about 40 percent from when he took office, and it is currently at the lowest level since the 1980s. But it still has 375 million barrels in it now , which is not “virtually empty” nor is it at the lowest level ever.

“The vast majority of the country does support me.”

Mr. Trump never won a majority of the popular vote in either of the elections he ran in and never had the approval of a majority of Americans in a single day of Gallup polling during his presidency. An average of polls by FiveThirtyEight.com shows that he is viewed favorably by just 43 percent of Americans today and has the same level of support in a matchup against Vice President Kamala Harris.

“They’re going to destroy Social Security.”

President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have pledged not to make any cuts to America’s social safety net programs. Mr. Trump suggested this year that he was open to scaling back the programs when he said there was “a lot you can do in terms of entitlements in terms of cutting.” He later walked back those comments and pledged to protect the programs. But if changes to the programs are not made, the programs’ benefits will automatically be reduced eventually. Government reports released earlier this year projected that the Social Security and disability insurance programs, if combined, would not have enough money to pay all of their obligations in 2035. Medicare will be unable to pay all its hospital bills starting in 2036.

“Everybody is going to be forced to buy an electric car.”

While the Biden administration has enacted regulations designed to ensure that the majority of new passenger cars and light trucks sold in the United States are all-electric or hybrids by 2032, the rules do not require consumers to buy electric vehicles.

The $1.5 trillion tax cut, enacted in December 2017, ranks below at least half a dozen others by several metrics. The 1981 tax cut enacted under President Ronald Reagan is the largest as a percentage of the economy and by its reduction to federal revenue. The 2012 cut enacted under President Barack Obama amounted to the largest cut in inflation-adjusted dollars: $321 billion a year.

The price of gasoline reached a low of $1.98 per gallon in April 2020, when Mr. Trump was president, chiefly as a result of the drop in driving in the first months of the Covid pandemic. It rose to a peak of $5 per gallon in June 2022, but has since steadily dropped to $3.60 per gallon in July 2024. The United States has steadily increased its oil production over the last decade, becoming the world’s largest producer of oil in 2018, a status it still holds today .

Mr. Trump spoke with a leader of the Taliban in March 2020. In the 18 months that followed, from April 2020 to October 2021, 13 soldiers died in hostile action in Afghanistan.

No state has passed a law allowing for the execution of a baby after it is born, which is infanticide. Moreover, abortions later in pregnancy are very rare: In 2021, less than 1 percent of abortions happened after 21 weeks’ gestation, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report based on data from state and other health agencies. More than 90 percent of abortions happened within 13 weeks of gestation.
