How to Make a PowerPoint on Mac

In this article, we will use Keynote on Mac to make a presentation and then export it to PowerPoint.

Step 1. Launch Keynote

Click on the “Keynote icon in the Launchpad to open it. A window displaying various theme templates “Theme chooser” will appear. In the case it does not appear, click the option key and on the “File” menu select “new” to open a new presentation template.

Step 2. Choose the Theme of the Presentation

Scroll to navigate in the theme chooser and choose the type of presentation you want to make then double click on it to open.

Step 3. Change the Layout

To change to a different layout, you can click on the “Layout” button, and then select your desired layout.

Step 4. Add Content

There are a number of activities you might need to perfume on the presentation which involves adding your content.

To add a slide, click on "Add Slide" in the toolbar and then select a layout.
To add text, there is a placeholder text on the slide which you should double click and type to replace it with your own.
To add an image, drag and drop or copy and paste an image to the slide from your computer or webpage.

Step 5. Save the File

After you are done with adding your content to the slide and your presentation is ready, you can click on "Save" and enter the file name. Meanwhile, you need to choose the location to save your file, and finally click “Save”.

Step 6. Export to PowerPoint

It is always important to try playing your presentation by yourself before you present it to other people to familiarize with it and make any necessary changes.

Step 1. To export the file, you can click on “Share” on the menu, and then select “export”.

Great app; has all the right features + nice touches

This app is simple and effective. Forward/backward clicker plus clock. Nice use of haptics lets you know that it registered your button-press. Loved that it sent the server app to my Mac via Airdrop easily and requires no additional downloading or pairing. It can also prevent the phone from going to sleep. Just used this flawlessly with a group of eight presenters (handing my phone around) and it worked flawlessly without ever requiring me to unlock my phone.

Wow! If I would give 6 stars I would. The best thing about the app is you don’t even need to connect to the same network like most of the other remote apps. Thank you so much for creating this app.

‘Microsoft’s MacBook Air’ is more like a MacBook Pro

Two new laptops announced yesterday are being touted as “ Microsoft’s MacBook Air,” with the company claiming that they offer similar performance to the M3 MacBook Air , with even greater battery life.

But commentators have been quick to point out that this isn’t a like-for-like comparison. A key feature of the MacBook Air is it achieves its impressive performance without the need for cooling fans, so a fairer comparison would be with the MacBook Pro …

We noted yesterday that Microsoft’s presentation for its latest Copilot+ PC laptops specifically claimed to beat the M3 MacBook Air .

Microsoft was especially eager to show how its new ARM-based PCs could outperform Apple’s M3 MacBook Airs, both in sheer performance as well as battery life. The Mac vs. PC fires were very much being stoked in this presentation.

Executive VP Yusuf Mehdi said:

It’s going to outperform any device out there, including a MacBook Air with an M3 processor, by over 50 percent on sustained performance.

In an attempt to back this up, The Verge ‘s Tom Warren was treated to a full hour of demos and benchmarks at Microsoft’s campus.

Benchmark tests usually aren’t that exciting to watch. But a lot was at stake here: for years, the MacBook Air has been able to smoke Arm-powered PC chips — and Intel-based ones, too. Except, this time around, the Surface pulled ahead on the first test. Then it won another test and another after that. The results of these tests are why Microsoft believes it’s now in position to conquer the laptop market.

But Arstechnica noted one key thing Apple hadn’t mentioned: the Copilot+ PCs have fans, making them more like a MacBook Pro than a MacBook Air.

One caveat that I hadn’t seen mentioned in Microsoft’s presentation or in other coverage of the announcement, though—Microsoft says that both of these devices have fans. Apple still uses fans for the MacBook Pro lineup, but the MacBook Air is totally fanless. Bear that in mind when reading Microsoft’s claims about performance.

John Gruber checked out a bunch of these new breed of Windows machines, and didn’t find any of them claiming to be fanless, noting that he’d expect them to highlight this if it were the case.

The fan isn’t a problem until it kicks in, and you notice it. That rarely happens with the MacBook Pro, but maybe you have to throttle it enough to notice. The comparison isn’t honest, but Microsoft have done this before, as have other companies. They will find the most favourable numbers and present them within their own marketing narrative. It’s not strictly honest, but marketing isn’t known for its honesty. Anyone using a Mac does so for the entire user experience. They like the hardware, software, App Store and services and overall user experience. I’m sure many Windows users are the same, but they are two companies that have a very different ethos to one another, and they have very different businesses as well. They cater to their own markets and occasionally cross over into each other’s territory. I don’t think anyone using a Mac will be tempted in the slightest.

So yeah, take the comparison with a large dose of salt.

9to5Mac’s Take

Microsoft does appear to be taking some liberties here.

On the plus side, it’s great to see Windows laptops at least attempting to compete – that incentivizes Apple to keep up the pace of development on both performance and battery life. Better Windows machines means even better Macs.

Create slideshows in Photos on Mac

In Photos, there are two ways to create slideshows:

Quickly play an instant slideshow of the photos from a day, complete with a theme and music.

Create and save a slideshow project. You select a group of photos, then add text, choose a theme, add music, and set how long each slide appears. You can export a slideshow project to play it on a Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV.

Play an instant slideshow

When you play an instant slideshow, you can select a theme and music for the slideshow, but you can’t customize the slideshow further.

Select some photos in a day, then choose File > Play Slideshow.

Click Themes, then select a theme.

A preview of the theme appears in the pane.

Click Music and select the song you want.

To turn off or select different music, click the song again to deselect it, then select a different song.

Click Play Slideshow.

To stop playing the slideshow, press the Escape key. Press the arrow keys to skip forward or back through the slides, and press the Space bar to pause the slideshow.

Create a slideshow project

Choose File > Create > Slideshow > Photos.

Click the Slideshow pop-up menu and choose New Slideshow.

Type a slideshow name in the Slideshow Name field, then click OK.

To reorder photos, drag photos into the order you want them in the bottom of the window.

You can change the theme at any time. The theme you choose determines text position, fonts, and the transitions that appear between slides.

Choose Theme Songs from the pop-up menu to see music included with Photos, or choose Music to see music from your Music library. Drag the songs you selected to change the order they play in. To delete a song, select it and press Delete.

Set the slideshow to match the length of the selected music: Select Fit to Music.

Set a specific display time for the slideshow: Select Custom, then drag the slider to specify how long the slideshow should play.

Set a transition for the entire slideshow: Select the Transition checkbox, then choose a transition type from the pop-up menu.

Set slides to fit the screen: Select the “Scale photos to fit screen” checkbox.

To see a preview of the slideshow, click the Preview button.

To stop playing a slideshow, press the Escape key. Press the arrow keys to skip forward or back through the slides, and press the Space bar to pause the slideshow.

Note: Slideshows appear in the My Projects folder in the sidebar. If you use iCloud Shared Photo Library , you must choose Both Libraries from the Library pop-up menu in the toolbar to see projects you’ve created.

Add or remove photos and text in a slideshow project

Note: If you use iCloud Shared Photo Library , you must choose Both Libraries from the Library pop-up menu in the toolbar to see projects you’ve created.

Do any of the following:

Delete text from a photo: Select the text in the photo or select the T frame before the photo in the row of thumbnails, then press Delete.

Delete a photo from the slideshow: Select the photo you want to delete, then press Delete.

Microsoft’s CEO Says New AI PCs Will Revive PC-Mac Rivalry

(Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp. Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella is betting a new generation of computers with specialized artificial intelligence chips and faster performance will revive the long-running rivalry between Windows PCs and Apple Inc.’s Mac.

“Apple’s done a fantastic job,” Nadella said in an interview with Bloomberg Television on Monday. “We now want to bring real competition back to the Windows versus Mac.”

Microsoft unveiled a new category of AI-focused PCs called Copilot+PC. Thanks in part to a chip dedicated to AI processing, the company said, the machines from Microsoft’s Surface line and other manufacturers will be more powerful and 58% faster than Apple’s top-of-the-line MacBook Air M3. The new hardware will start at $1,000 and ship on June 18.

Apple is playing catch-up with Big Tech rivals in AI but is poised to lay out an ambitious strategy at its Worldwide Developers Conference next month. The company is placing high-end chips — similar to ones it designed for the Mac — in cloud-computing servers created to process the most advanced AI tasks coming to Apple devices, Bloomberg reported previously. Simpler AI-related features will be processed directly on iPhones, iPads and Macs.

Apple will focus on features that make life easier for users as they go about their day — say, by making suggestions and offering a customized experience.

Microsoft is leveraging its relationship with leading AI startup OpenAI to forge an early lead in the burgeoning field of generative AI services. But the partnership has come under regulatory scrutiny. Officials in the US, Europe and the UK are examining Microsoft’s AI investments, as well as those of its rivals, to determine whether they impinge on competition or should be regulated more similarly to mergers.

Nadella said his company’s partnerships are increasing competition in the nascent field rather than constraining it.

“Today there is formidable amount of competition, right?” he said. “Whether it is between the big players or the small players. So I don’t think that this is about any one company acquiring or not acquiring, but it’s about competition.”

Recall instantly

We set out to solve one of the most frustrating problems we encounter daily – finding something we know we have seen before on our PC. Today, we must remember what file folder it was stored in, what website it was on, or scroll through hundreds of emails trying to find it.

Now with Recall, you can access virtually what you have seen or done on your PC in a way that feels like having photographic memory. Copilot+ PCs organize information like we do – based on relationships and associations unique to each of our individual experiences. This helps you remember things you may have forgotten so you can find what you’re looking for quickly and intuitively by simply using the cues you remember. [7]

You can scroll across time to find the content you need in your timeline across any application, website, document, or more. Interact intuitively using snapshots with screenray to help you take the next step using suggested actions based on object recognition. And get back to where you were, whether to a specific email in Outlook or the right chat in Teams.

Recall leverages your personal semantic index, built and stored entirely on your device. Your snapshots are yours; they stay locally on your PC. You can delete individual snapshots, adjust and delete ranges of time in Settings, or pause at any point right from the icon in the System Tray on your Taskbar. You can also filter apps and websites from ever being saved. You are always in control with privacy you can trust.

Cocreate with AI-powered image creation and editing, built into Windows

Since the launch of Image Creator, almost 10 billion images have been generated, helping more people bring their ideas to life easily by using natural language to describe what they want to create. Yet, today’s cloud offerings may limit the number of images you can create, keep you waiting while the artwork processes or even present privacy concerns. By using the Neural Processing Units (NPUs) and powerful local small language models, we are bringing innovative new experiences to your favorite creative applications like Paint and Photos.

Combine your ink strokes with text prompts to generate new images in nearly real time with Cocreator. As you iterate, so does the artwork, helping you more easily refine, edit and evolve your ideas. iPad Air M2 vs iPad Pro M4: Power vs price

Apple has finally updated its higher-end iPad lineup, with new Air and Pro models. The upgrades include new processors, display sizes, and colors, as well as an ultra-thin chassis design for the premium models. But which one should you choose to get the best value for money?

Here’s our comparison guide to the iPad Air (M2) and iPad Pro (M4) models that launched in 2024.

Design & build quality

Apple ipad air 11-inch (m2, 2024).

The Air was given a design overhaul one generation ago in the iPad Air (2022) , so it’s not surprising that much of the construction looks familiar on the latest model. Obviously, the most noticeable difference is that the Air now comes in a choice of 11-inch and 13-inch variants.

Specifications are pretty much identical for both, with the larger model making use of the extra real estate to include a 2x bass response in the stereo speakers, but that’s about it.

Dimensions work out as follows:

11-inch iPad Air (M2) : 9.74 x 7.02 x 0.24 inches (247.6 x 178.5 x 6.1mm); 1.02 pounds (462g)
13-inch iPad Air (M2) : 11.04 x 8.46 x 0.24 inches (280.6 x 214.9 x 6.1mm); 1.36 pounds (617g)

There are new color schemes, with the Air available in Space Gray, Starlight, Purple, or Blue. But perhaps the most useful upgrade (at least in terms of design) is that the FaceTime camera has been repositioned on the longer edge of the iPad, creating a landscape orientation that makes far more sense than the previous portrait one. The Air still doesn’t get Face ID, however, so the Touch ID sensor in the power button will be how you unlock the device and make payments.

The baseline storage has finally been upgraded to something sensible, plus Apple has added higher capacity options too. Here are the different amounts available:

Apple iPad Pro 11-inch (M4, 2024)

On the iPad Pro (M4), meanwhile, the design advances are more profound. Yes, it’s still an aluminum rectangle, but Apple’s engineers have worked hard to make this not only the thinnest iPad they’ve ever created, but the thinnest Apple product ever made! Yes, even slimmer than the iPod nano. Crazy.

Here are the dimensions for the two new iPad Pro models:

11-inch iPad Pro (M4) : 9.83 x 6.99 x 0.21 inches (249.7 x 177.5 x 5.3 mm); 0.98 pounds (444g)
13-inch iPad Pro (M4) : 11.09 x 8.48 x 0.20 inches (281.6 x 215.5 x 5.1 mm); 1.28 pounds (579g)

So, for the first time, the iPad Pros are now lighter than the iPad Airs. Maybe Apple needs to rethink the names of its iPads going forward?

Whereas the iPad Air (M2) has twin stereo speakers, the Pro models double this with a four-speaker array. They also employ a landscape FaceTime camera, but Apple bestows Face ID on its Pro models, making it even easier to log in.

Color schemes are simpler on the Pros, with only Space Black or Silver to choose from, while storage options come in the following flavors:

All Pro and Air models, in compliance with EU law, come with USB-C charging ports, although the Pro versions have upgraded Thunderbolt / USB 4 capabilities. Apple also announced a new Apple Pencil Pro , which works with both the Air and Pro models; the new Air and Pro are also both compatible with the Apple Pencil (USB-C). There’s a new Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro (M4), while the existing Magic Keyboard works with the iPad Air (M2) devices.

Display

Apple has been hard at work on the new Ultra Retina XDR displays for the Pro models. They feature a revolutionary new design that combines two OLED panels layered up to create something the company is calling a Tandem OLED display. This allows them to be brighter, with a full screen brightness for SDR and HDR of 1,000 nits, and a maximum of 1,600 nits for HDR, while delivering the depths of color and contrast for which OLED panels are famed.

You can also opt for a nano-texture glass if you buy the 1TB or 2TB storage variants. This has microscopic etches in the panel that diffuse light, massively reducing the glare from surrounding light sources. Standard glass appears on all the other models.

There is of course ProMotion (or 120Hz refresh rate in human-speak), which remains a Pro-only feature.

While the Pros take the headlines for their impressive new displays, the Liquid Retina panels on the iPad Air (M2) models are no slouches, and for the first time you get to choose between an 11-inch (actually 10.86-inch) or 13-inch (actually 12.9-inch) size. All of the new iPads offer P3 Wide Color (P3), True Tone, and resolutions that deliver 264 ppi (pixels per inch), as you can see below:

The brightness of the Airs does lag behind their more expensive siblings, however, topping out at 500 nits. Good news is that all support the Apple Pencil Hover feature, which was previously only available on the iPad Pro.

Processor

It’s all change on the processor front, with both platforms getting solid upgrades. The Airs go from the M1 to the M2 chipset, while the Pros jump further, swapping the previous M2 for the brand-new M4.

The M1 was already powerful enough for most things, so moving to the M2 on the Air is great news for anyone that wants a fast iPad for gaming and some creative work, and one that will stay speedy for years to come. It’s packed with an 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine to handle AI and machine learning features. It’s so powerful that it was the driving force of the previous-gen iPad Pro models.

This year’s Pros, though, are fitted with some frankly crackers processing power. Apple claims the new M4 is one of the main reasons why the new iPad Pros can be made so thin and utilize the Tandem OLED display.

Built on a 3-nanometer architecture, it features improved speed and energy management, all powered by a CPU with four performance cores, six efficiency cores, and next-generation machine learning accelerators. Apple says that the new M4 delivers 1.5x faster CPU performance than the M2.

The GPU has also been levelled up, with 10 cores and various performance enhancements that can render apps up to 4x faster than the M2. All while delivering the same performance as that chip, but using only a quarter of the power draw.

In all honesty, the M2 in the Air is more than enough for people using the iPad as an everyday device, while the M4 is truly Pro-level hardware that should satisfy even the most demanding iPad creative.

We have to admit, we’re not fans of people using iPads to take pictures, but it happens and we just have to deal with it. There are not that many distinct differences between the optics available on the Air and Pro models, with the latter benefitting from some small additional capabilities.

All come with a 12Mp Wide camera (f/1.8) offering a 5x digital zoom and Smart HDR 4. The Pros get Adaptive True Tone flash as a bonus. Across the board you can capture video up to 4K @ 60fps, slo-mo at 240fps, and time-lapse with stabilisation. The Pros again have some advantage, with ProRes video, audio zoom and stereo recording. Again, for most people this won’t be an issue at all, as it’s mainly for filmmakers.

The front-facing camera is again standard across the platforms, with a 12Mp landscape Ultra Wide (f/2.4) that supports 2x zoom out, Centre Stage, Retina flash, Smart HDR 4 for photos, Cinematic video stabilisation, and top out at 1080p @ 60fps. Where the Pros cameras differ is the inclusion of TrueDepth for Face ID, Portrait mode and Portrait Lighting, plus you can use Animoji and Memoji.

Connectivity

There’s little to separate the Airs and Pros in terms of connectivity. They all support Wi-Fi 6e, 5G (assuming you pay extra for cellular connectivity), MIMO, Bluetooth 5.3, Gigabit LTE and GPS. Physical connections are through the USB-C port on the Airs or the Thunderbolt / USB 4 on the Pros, while all have Smart Connectors for the Apple Magic Keyboards.

Price and Availability

There are several price points available, depending on storage allocation, cellular connectivity or the size of the display. Here are all the variations, with the devices receiving 15 May release dates. Below each list you’ll find a price-comparison widget showing the best deals in your area.

Should I buy the iPad Air M2 or iPad Pro M4?

Apple keeps thing pretty simple with the new Airs and Pros. There are next to no differences specs-wise between the 11-inch and 13-inch models on either platform, so once you’ve decided on whether it’s an Air or Pro model you want, the only other factor is a preference of size.

If you want an everyday iPad that’s really fast, can take anything you throw at it, plus making you safe in the knowledge that you won’t have to upgrade any time soon, then the Air is a great choice.

Those who want the very best in terms of speed and display will find the Pro models hard to resist. They are great, but you’ll need to ask yourself if you really need that much power? If so, then the Pros deliver it in abundance.
