In our competitive and fast-changing world motivation is a crucial factor. For you as a leader or a trainer, it’s not enough only to understand it, but also to inspire your team. Hence having an engaging presentation helps to communicate clearly your motivation message .

Additionally, if you will use an unconventional hand-drawn style instead of default shapes, your presentation will look more authentic and personal.
That was our motivation for designing this motivation training toolbox. We wanted to create something easy to use and yet original looking. The result is this graphic set of editable handwritten scribble diagrams for PowerPoint. It contains some motivation theories and a template for sharing practical hints on team motivation.

Pyramide of Maslow Needs Hierarchy
The classics of motivation theory. In the collection, you will find 3 variants of the pyramid: as a sketched drawing of the whole shape, divided by 5 levels pyramid and versions with every level highlighted. All elements are vector shapes so you can change the color using standard PowerPoint color tools.
We also created 5 different slides with each Maslow level (physiological, safety, love and belongingness, esteem, and self-actualization needs). Each level is illustrated by a specific icon (also editable so you can change the orange filling e.g. by the blue one if that fits your presentation style better):
Maturity Levels Illustration
The right leadership style will depend on the person or group being led. The Hersey-Blanchard Situational Leadership Theory identified four levels of maturity :
- M1 – They lack the specific skills required for the job at hand and are unable and unwilling to take responsibility for this job or task.
- M2 – They are unable to take on responsibility for the task being done; however, they are willing to work on the task. They are novices but enthusiastic.
- M3 – They are experienced and able to do the task but lack the confidence or the willingness to take on responsibility.
- M4 – They are experienced at the task, and comfortable with their own ability to do it well. They are able and willing to not only do the task but to take responsibility for the task.
We illustrated them as a matrix, where you can highlight a level or several levels you need, like in the picture:
Motivation Tools and Motivating Team Hints
Building a culture of motivation is a great way to keep your employees happy at work. The list of employee motivation techniques and tools can be endless.
In this motivation training presentation, we added a simple layout for 2 groups: motivation and hygienic factors.
When you want to show motivational actions and practical advice, illustrating them with hand drawn icons will make the slides appealing:
Transition slides
If you have a longer presentation, a good practice is to use dividers – section slides separating particular training topics.
Here are some transition slides from the collection you can reuse to indicate it’s coffee break time and how far are you from the training end: They will bring logical pauses to your speech.

DEFINITION: Motivational interviewing is a client-centered, evidence- based, goal-oriented method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence with the individual. FIVE GENERAL PRINCIPLES • Express Empathy • Develop Discrepancy • Avoid Arguments, “Right” positions • Support Self-efficacy • Roll with the Resistance MI Basic Training
OARS • O: open-ended questions • A: affirm, notice the strengths of the person, see the motivation in what they do…hear their values • R: reflection, use empathy, simple and complex, 2 to 1 statements to questions • S: summarize (5-15 minutes in time together) MI Basic Training
Closed Questions • Have a short answer (like Yes/No) • Did you drink this week? • Ask for specific information • What is your address? • Might be multiple choice • What do you plan to do: Quit, cut down, or keep on smoking? • They limit the client’s answer options MI Basic Training
Open Questions: • Open the door, encourage the client to talk • Do not invite a short answer • Leave broad latitude for how to respond MI Basic Training
Open-ended Questions • “How can I help you?” • “Would you tell me about ___?” • “How would you like things to be different?” • “What are the positive things and what are the less good things about ___?” • “What will you lose if you give up ___?” • “What have you tried before?” • “What do you want to do next?” MI Basic Training
Closed Versus Open-Ended Questions • What problems has your alcohol use caused you? • How important is it for you to complete this program successfully? • What else? • Do you feel you have a problem with alcohol? • Is it important to you to complete this program successfully? • Anything else? Some Guidelines with Questions • Ask fewer questions! • Don’t ask three questions in a row • Ask more open than closed questions • Offer two reflections for each question asked MI Basic Training
Affirmations • Emphasize a strength • Notice and appreciate a positive action • Should be genuine • Express positive regard and caring • Strengthen therapeutic relationship MI Basic Training
Affirmations Include: • Commenting positively on an attribute • You’re a strong person, a real survivor. • A statement of appreciation • I appreciate your openness and honesty today. • Catch the person doing something right • Thanks for coming in today! • A compliment • I like the way you said that. • An expression of hope, caring, or support • I hope this weekend goes well for you! Reflective Listening “Reflective Listening” is the key to this work. The best motivational advice we can give you is to listen carefully to your clients. They will tell you what has worked and what hasn’t. What moved them forward and shifted them backward. Whenever you are in doubt about what to do, listen”(Miller & Rollnick, 1991) MI Basic Training
Types of Empathic Reflections • Simple/Repeating - Reflect what is said • Simple/Rephrasing – Slightly alter • Amplified - Add intensity to idea/values • Double Sided - Reflect ambivalence • Metaphor - Create a picture • Shifting Focus - Change the focus • Reframing - Offer new meaning • Emphasize personal choice • Siding with the negative (paradoxical) MI Basic Training
Repeating:This is the simplest form of reflection, often used to diffuse resistance • Patient: I don't want to quit smoking. • HCP: You don't want to quit smoking. MI Basic Training
Rephrasing: Slightly alter what the client says in order to provide the client with a different point of view. This can help move the client forward. • Client: I really want to quit smoking. • HCP: Quitting smoking is very important to you. MI Basic Training
Amplified reflection: Reflect what the client has said in an exaggerated way. This encourages the client to argue less, and can elicit the other side of the client's ambivalence. • Client: My smoking isn't that bad. • HCP: There's no reason at all for you to be concerned about your smoking. (Note: it is important to have a genuine, not sarcastic, tone of voice). MI Basic Training
Double-sided reflection: Acknowledge both sides of the client's ambivalence. • Client: Smoking helps me reduce stress. • HCP: On the one hand, smoking helps you to reduce stress. On the other hand, you said previously that it also causes you stress because you have a hacking cough, have to smoke outside, and spend money on cigarettes. MI Basic Training
Metaphor: Painting a picture that can clarify the client’s position • Client: Everyone keeps telling me I have a drinking problem, and I don’t feel it’s that bad. • HCP: It’s kind of like everyone is pecking on you about your drinking, like a flock of crows pecking away at you. MI Basic Training
Shifting focus: Provide understanding for the client's situation and diffuse resistance Client: What do you know about quitting? You probably never smoked. HCP: It's hard to imagine how I could possibly understand. MI Basic Training
Reframing: Much as a painting can look completely different depending upon the frame put around it, reframing helps clients think about their situation differently • Client: I've tried to quit and failed so many times. • HCP: You are persistent, even in the face of discouragement. This change must be really important to you. MI Basic Training
Emphasizing Personal Choice: Reflect the client’s autonomy • Client: I've been considering quitting for some time now because I know it is bad for my health. • HCP: You're worried about your health and want to make different choices. MI Basic Training
Summarizing • Special form of reflective listening • Ensures clear communication • Use at transitions in conversation • Be concise • Reflect ambivalence • Accentuate “change talk” MI Basic Training
How Motivational Interviewing is Directive • Selective eliciting questions • Selective reflection • Selective elaboration • Selective summarizing • Selective affirming MI Basic Training
Using OARS Micro-skills Eliciting Change Talk • The idea in MI is to have the client present arguments for both sides in making changes. It is the interviewer’s task to facilitate the client’s expression of such change talk. This is a process of shared decision-making, not an attempt to manipulate or sculpt the client’s will. CrossFit legend Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr knows all eyes are on her as she returns to the sport's flagship games this summer.
The six-time Fittest Woman on Earth skipped the 2023 CrossFit Games after she gave birth to her daughter Willow last May. Now she's working hard to reclaim her place on the podium, she told Business Insider.
The stakes are high: the 30-year-old Australian is the only CrossFit athlete, male or female, to have won the Games six times.
Toomey-Orr is juggling training alongside being the face of various brands associated with the sport, including the new apparel partner of the Games, Goruck . She also runs her own CrossFit gym in her home of Nashville, Prvn Fitness, and has previously written two books.
Toomey-Orr knows some people doubt her focus now she's juggling motherhood and training — but that just drives her to prove them wrong.
"There is this perception that, 'Well, Tia's main focus is not necessarily going to be training anymore, she's got a new baby girl. Does that mean that she can still win?' And I'm trying to change that," she said.
Returning to work after giving birth is hard for most women, but it can be especially challenging as a leading athlete, both physically and mentally, with the added pressure and criticism from the public. Toomey-Orr wants to show that parents can still achieve their goals if they are determined.

Toomey-Orr sets small training goals for herself
Watching the 2023 CrossFit Games from the sidelines in August was tough for Toomey-Orr, she previously told BI.
Toomey-Orr went on to shock fans when she competed at the Rogue Invitational, a major CrossFit competition, in October and finished in a close second place.
After finishing first in the 2024 quarterfinals, Toomey-Orr is firmly focused on winning the Games.
"No one remembers who wins the quarterfinals, of course, but it is also very good for me to understand where everyone is right now," she said. "For me, it's just reassurance."
Toomey-Orr trains five days a week, with one full rest day and one day for active recovery, such as swimming. She has been setting small personal training goals for herself to track her progress.
"If I hit this number or if I do this in the workout, then I know I'm fitter than I've always been," she said. "Knowing where my fitness level is helps with confidence and understanding if I am right where I need to be or maybe I still have a little bit of work to do."
Toomey-Orr said she's tracking in the right direction for strength, fitness, and skill. It's just a case of getting all her training in as she plays catch-up after the year off.
Winding down breastfeeding helped Toomey-Orr rebuild strength
Rebuilding her strength was challenging when Toomey-Orr was exclusively breastfeeding Willow, but the almost one-year-old is now consuming solid food as well as an Australian formula.
"That helps in terms of my energy levels, but also the amount of calories I have to consume because I'm obviously burning so much through training," Toomey-Orr said. "Breastfeeding is just, it's a lot on the body."
While Willow regularly watches her mother training, Toomey-Orr isn't going to push her daughter into CrossFit as a career.
"Hopefully, she chooses something a little bit more straightforward," Toomey-Orr joked, "But honestly, I just want her to see that anything beyond her wildest dreams is possible."
Like winning the CrossFit Games six times, taking a year off to have a baby, and getting straight back to it.
