How to Loop a Slideshow in Keynote on iPhone and Mac

Apple Keynote is one of the well-known apps for creating presentations for almost every occasion. You can create an interactive slideshow or storybook using Keynote. The app comes pre-installed on iPhone and iPad so that you can access and manage your presentations on the go.

Besides making a slideshow, if you want to let it play automatically and continuously, Keynote enables you to play your presentation in a loop. This post will show you how to loop a slideshow in Keynote on iPhone and Mac.

Loop a Slideshow in Keynote on iPhone

First, let us show you how to loop a slideshow with the Keynote app on your iPhone. This feature is helpful for occasions when you want to play a slideshow continuously at an event. It might be a new product showcase or a new fashion line launch. The looping feature will take care of your stunning presentations.

Before we begin, please ensure that you have updated the Keynote app to its latest version.

Step 1: Open the Keynote app.

Step 5: Tap on Presentation Type from the Settings menu.

Step 6: Tap the toggle alongside Loop Slideshow.

Step 7: Select Self Playing.

After you select Self Playing, the app will offer an option to set Transition Delay and Build Delay.

You can choose the duration for both these aspects of your slideshow.

Step 8: Tap on Done to save changes.

When you share the slideshow with your iPhone for playback, it will start looping itself. If you use a Mac for the slideshow playback using the same Microsoft account, the changes will get synced automatically.

Loop a Slideshow in Keynote on Mac

Let us move to the Mac and show you how to loop a slideshow in Keynote. This feature can be used by teachers using a keynote presentation to teach their students. They can easily repeat what they have taught to the class using the loop feature to revise the concepts. If you are conducting an online lecture, this feature is useful for that scenario.

Follow these steps.

Step 1: Press Command + Spacebar to open Spotlight Search, type Keynote, and press Return.

Step 2: Open your presentation.

Step 3: Click on the Document tab in the top-right corner.

Step 4: Under Slideshow Settings, select Loop Slideshow.

Step 5: Select Self-Playing as the Presentation Type.

Step 6: Select the Transition and Build delay as per your choice.

Step 7: Press Command + S to save your preferences.

Bonus Tip: How to Loop a Specific Portion of the Slideshow in Keynote

When you want to emphasize on select slides or want to repeat information when new attendees join the meet, you can loop select slides. Meanwhile, you can continue to present and the new attendees can catchup with the slideshow. Follow these steps.

Step 1: Open your presentation in the Keynote app and select the first slide of your presentation on Mac.

Step 2: Press and hold Shift + Down Arrow key to select a couple of your initial slides that do not reveal your presentation’s major data points.

Step 3: Once selected, click on File.

Step 4: Select Export To.

Step 5: Click on Movie.

Step 6: Select the resolution of the video file and click on Next.

Step 7: Rename the file, choose the file location and click Export.

You now have a video clip of your initial slides. Let us integrate this in our presentation.

Step 8: Right-click the first slide and select New Slide.

Step 9: Click on the new slide to select it and drag it to the top.

Step 10: Select the new slide and click Insert.

Step 11: Click on Choose.

Step 12: Select the newly created file and click Insert button in the bottom-right corner.

Step 13: After Keynote inserts the video, click on Format at the top-right corner.

Step 14: Select the Movie tab.

Step 15: Under Repeat, select Loop from the drop-down menu.

Step 16: Press Command + S to save your preferences.

The video will play in a loop until you click on it to stop playback and begin your presentation.

How to loop slides within a keynote presentation

This is a feature that is sorely missing in Apple keynote. The ability to create a loop within Keynote. For example you may want have a loop of 4-5 slides at the start of a presentation while people are waiting, and then start the presentation without having to exit and open a new presentation. Or you may want to have a loop in the middle of a presentation, for example some photos that rotate while someone is singing, and then continue on with the presentation when you are ready. There is no way of doing this within Keynote itself but here is a workaround that will get you out of trouble.

The way to do this is to make 2 keynote presentations. One has the slides that you want to rotate. The other is your main one. You need to export the rotating presentation as a QuickTime movie and then import it into your main Keynote file and tell it to loop. Here’s how to do it step by step.

Create the looping part of the presentation and export it.

Make a keynote with all the slides that you want in the repeating section. Export it as a quicktime movie.

This will save the keynote presentation as a movie. Strictly speaking, it is not a movie, it is a collection of still images that automatically advance when you want to. It is kind of like a self playing keynote presentation wrapped inside a QuickTime movie file. You can import this keynote movie into another keynote presentation.

2. Import this looping part back into your main keynote presentation.

Open a new keynote presentation that is your main keynote presentation and insert the QuickTime movie into the new keynote presentation. (You can simply drag the movie into your keynote presentation, or you can select ‘Insert’, ‘Choose’ and then choose the movie file.)

3. Tell Keynote to loop the looping part.

Click on the movie in Keynote, then in the Inspector, in the Movie panel under repeat select ‘Loop’.

That’s it!

Your main Keynote presentation will play like a normal keynote presentation, but when you come to the movie those slides within the movie will repeat endlessly in a loop until you click. When you click it will move on to the next slide. This is the way to make a loop of slides within a keynote presentation.

The main downside of this method is that if you want to edit one of the slides in the looped part of the presentation, you need to open the original looped Keynote file, make the changes re-export the file to a movie, and reimport it into the new presentation.

Thanks for this – first thing that came up in my search. It is dismaying that I cannot set Keynote to loop back to a prior slide at a certain point.

This solution will not work in the instance where we are creating a deck that needs to be cued live because it is for a background stage element that only changes when a speaker finishes presenting. The entire thing then needs to seamlessly loop back to the start.

I take it there is no way to set up Keynote to do this, but if you learn of any would appreciate tips, thanks!

Wait, I take that back (so go ahead and kill my comment) … I looked this up online before discovering there is a global “loop slideshow” setting under Document tab that will return it to the first slide. I feel dumb for not having checked first.

I’m using dissolves, and for some reason my final slide fades to black, and I’d prefer it faded to white. Any tips for how to solve this?

Just put a completely white slide at the end and fade to it, does that work? Make sure the ‘Master Slide’ is white not black.

I tried this, but for some reason my video will play in edit mode but when I hit play it jumps to the next slide without playing the video loop. It is set to play automatically.

How to use Apple Keynote

If you just picked up a new Mac or want to try the slideshow app that comes with macOS, it’s time to learn how to use Apple Keynote. Like using Google Slides or Microsoft PowerPoint, you can create a slideshow in Keynote and present it to an audience.

Use slideshow views, add and format slides, insert and format objects, adjust the slideshow settings, present a keynote slideshow.

Here, we’ll walk you through the basics you need to know as an Apple Keynote beginner.

What You Need

You can make a basic slideshow in Keynote or choose a colorful template for a jumpstart on your presentation’s appearance.

Step 1: Open Keynote from the Applications folder. Make sure Finder is active, and select Go > Applications from the menu bar.

Step 2: In the window that appears, select New document on the bottom left.

Step 3: You’ll then see the templates you can choose from with categories along the left. You can pick something super basic or go big with a bold or dynamic template. Each template gives you a background and formatting.

Choose the template and select Create on the bottom right. For this how-to, we’ll use the simple white option.

Step 4: Before you start creating your slideshow, it’s a good idea to name it. You can then save it as you progress through the creation process.

Name your slideshow one of these ways:

Select the Title drop-down box at the top of the Keynote window. Enter the name, pick a location, and optionally add a tag.
Choose File > Save from the menu bar. Then, enter the name, pick the location, and optionally add tags.

Now that you have your new slideshow open and named, you’re ready to get started.

As you set up your slides and objects, you can use the view the works best for you. Select the View button on the top left of Keynote or View in the menu bar to pick an option.

Navigator : This displays thumbnails of the slides on the left you can pick from with the currently selected slide in the workspace to the right.

Slide only : This gives you a complete view of the slide without distractions.

Light table : This puts your slides in a grid format. While you can’t work on a particular slide in this view, it’s a good way to see all of the slides at once.

Outline : This lets you work on your slideshow using a text outline. Type your outline in the sidebar on the left using your Tab key to indent for sublevels.

You can add slides that follow the format of the template you pick or choose a particular layout for the new slide.

Step 1: To insert a slide based on the type that comes next with the template, either right-click a slide in the navigator on the left or pick Slide in the menu bar. Then, choose New slide .

Step 2: To insert a slide with a certain layout, select Add slide in the toolbar at the top. Then, pick the layout you want to use.

Step 3: You’ll then see the new slide pop into view. If you’d like to include a title, add a slide number, or change the background, select Format on the right side of the toolbar.

This opens a sidebar on the right for you to adjust these options. You can also change the layout using the drop-down box at the top of the sidebar.

Because slideshows are visual presentations, you can insert things like pictures, shapes, tables, charts, and various types of media in addition to text.

Step 1: To add text, simply type it into the box on the slide for the layout you choose. You can also insert a text box using the Text button in the toolbar.

To change the font style, size, format, color, or other text attribute, select the box containing the text. Then, use the Format button in the toolbar to open the sidebar and make your changes on the Text tab.

Step 2: If you choose a slide layout that includes a photo, you can easily swap it out for your own. Select the icon in the bottom-right corner of the sample image. Browse for and choose your image, and then select Insert to place it on the slide.

Step 3: To insert things like a table, chart, or shape, you can use the same-named toolbar buttons to see previews of the items. This makes it a little easier to pick and format the item from the start.

Step 4: If you want to add a photo, movie, video, audio, or similar type of media, select the Media button in the toolbar or Insert from the menu bar and choose the item.

Step 5: Once you insert the item, you can format its size, border, volume, playback, and other features. Select the object and use the Format button in the toolbar to open the sidebar.

You’ll then see the features available for you to adjust on the right. Use the tabs at the top of the sidebar to pick from style options, item features, and arrangement.

Depending on how you want to play your slideshow, you can adjust its settings next.

Step 1: On any slide in the presentation, select the Document button on the right side of the toolbar.

Step 2: Then, pick the Document tab at the top of the sidebar.

Step 3: Below Slideshow settings , use the check boxes to automatically play the slideshow when the file opens, loop the slideshow, or restart the show when idle for a designated time.

Step 4: For links only or a self-playing presentation, use the drop-down menu and subsequent boxes in the Presentation type section of the sidebar.

Step 5: To change the slide size from widescreen to standard or set a custom size, select the drop-down menu in the Slide size area.

Step 6: Finally, if you want to password-protect the file, check the box at the bottom of the sidebar. Then, create and verify the password, include a hint, and optionally check the box to allow opening with Touch ID .

When you’re ready to present your Keynote slideshow, you can do so using multiple monitors or in the same window.

Step 1: If you use more than one monitor, you can display the presentation on one screen and control it on the other. Start by selecting Play in the toolbar.

Step 2: In the controller view you see on one screen, you can open the navigator on the left, use the icons on the top right to adjust the tools, and select the X to end the show.

Step 3: If you’re only using one monitor, you can display the presentation and the controls on the same screen. Start by selecting Play in Window in the toolbar.

Step 4: You’ll then see the presentation in one window with your controls in another. Use the icon on the top left of the control window to open the Slide navigator and the Display options icon on the top right to adjust the settings.

How to play a video or audio across slides in Keynote on Mac, iPhone, and iPad

Learn how to insert a video or audio file in your Keynote presentation and set it to play across various adjacent slides.

You can get really creative when you’re building a slideshow in Keynote . And depending on whether your presentation is for business or pleasure, you can add a movie or audio file that plays across your slides.

What’s nice about this feature is that you can set the volume differently on each slide and continue to use your object animations and slide transitions . If you’re ready to spruce up your slideshow with a movie or audio, here’s how to play those files across your slides in Keynote on both macOS and iOS.

Before you begin, make sure that the movie or audio file you plan to use is in a supported format for QuickTime on Mac. This includes M4A (MPEG-4) files for audio and MOV files for movies. If the file you have is not in a supported format, you can use iMovie, QuickTime Player, Compressor, or another tool to convert the file . Then, follow these steps to add the file to your slides.

1) Select the first slide where you want the file and add it. You can do this easily with the Media button in the toolbar. For a file in your library, pick Movies or Music and drag the file from the window where you want it on the slide. For a file in a different location, like a Finder folder, select Choose , locate the file, and click Insert .

2) Follow the same instructions in Step 1 to add the file to each slide. Keep in mind that although you don’t have to add the file to every slide in your presentation, the slides you do add it to must be consecutive.

3) Click the Format button to open the right-hand sidebar and make sure the Movie or Audio tab is selected at the top

4) Go through each slide, select the file on the slide, and check the box for Play movie/audio across slides in the sidebar.

5) On the last slide where you want the file to play, uncheck Play movie/audio across slides. This will play the file on that slide but not the upcoming slides .

Adjust the volume on each slide

If you would like to set the volume differently on each slide playing the movie or audio file, this is easy to do.

1) Select the file on the slide where you want to change the volume.

2) Click the Format button to open the right-hand sidebar and select the Movie or Audio tab.

3) Use the slider to adjust the Volume .

Follow these same steps if you would like to change the volume for the movie or audio file on the other slides. This allows you to have the volume set to your preferred level on each slide that plays the movie or audio file.

On iPhone or iPad

To add a movie or audio file to play across your Keynote slides on iPhone or iPad, you’ll follow the same basic process.

1) Select the first slide where you want the file and add it. You can do this by tapping the plus sign and then the Media icon at the top. For a file in your library, pick Photo or Video , select the file, and tap Choose . For a file in a different location, like the Files app, select Insert from , locate the file, and tap it.

2) Follow the same instructions in Step 1 to add the file to each slide. Like in Keynote on Mac, the slides you add the file to must be consecutive.

3) Go through each slide, tap the file on the slide, and tap the Format button (brush icon) at the top.

4) Make sure the Movie or Audio tab is selected and enable the toggle for Play Across Slides .

5) On the last slide where you want the file to play, disable the toggle for Play across slides. Again, this will play the file on that slide but not the upcoming slides .

You can set the volume differently on each slide playing an audio file in Keynote on iOS. But note that you may not find this option in the most recent versions of Keynote on your iPhone or iPad.

2) Tap the Format button at the top and select the Audio tab.

How to Create a Photo Slideshow in Keynote for Mac

Last week, The Rocket Yard showed you how to use Apple’s Numbers spreadsheet app for iOS and iPadOS to capture info with forms . This week, we’ll show you how to use the free Keynote app for Mac to create a fancy photo slideshow.

Why Not Just Use the Photos App?

You’re probably asking yourself, “Wait, why not just use the Photos app to create a slideshow?” There are some good reasons to use Keynote for your slideshows instead of Photos:

You can quickly import a lot of photos to make individual slides
Each photo slide can be edited for scale and adjusted for color
More text annotations, slide transitions, and effects are available in Keynote than in Photos
You have a choice of music and voice narrations that can be added to the slideshow
You can export your slideshow as a video for sharing

Let’s get started by creating a quick slideshow.

Create A New Document

First, we need to create a new Keynote document. On the Mac, launch Keynote and select a template from the choices available. You’ll also have a choice of aspect ratio — the ratio of image width to height. Back in the days of photo film, just about every photo had either a 1:1 (square) or 4:3 aspect ratio. Digital cameras have changed that, and our Keynote slide templates come in either 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios.

If you plan on using AirPlay to show your slides on a standard flat-screen TV, then the 16:9 aspect ratio is probably your best bet. You can also select any one of the templates, but I found the Photo Essay template to be one of the best for slideshows.

Before we start playing with our images, let’s import them into Keynote.

Import Images

In order to get the best possible resolution for your photos, it’s a good idea to export them from the Photos app into a folder on your Mac.

In the Finder, create a New Folder by either right-clicking and selecting New Folder, or by using File > New Folder in the menu bar. As an example, I made a new folder on my Mac desktop named “Slideshow”.

Next, I launched the Photos app. Since I like taking pictures of flowers, I decided to search for flowers, then find my best photos to export to the folder. Going through the pictures, I just used a Command (⌘) – click to select multiple images.

Once I picked the photos, I selected File > Export > Export Unmodified Original to move the images to my folder. Once the export was completed, I quit Photos so I could better focus on my Keynote slideshow.

Your Keynote “deck” currently has just one slide — a title slide. Make sure that you can see both the contents of your slide folder and Keynote, then select the photos and drag them to the left sidebar where the app usually displays thumbnails of the slides. Drop the photos, and they are imported into Keynote with one photo per slide.

Once the photos have been dragged and dropped to the sidebar on the left side of the Keynote window, they appear on separate slides.

You’ll probably notice that if you chose a template with text on it, the text is behind your photos. We’ll take care of that in the next step. The first slide, as seen in the screenshot above, is a placeholder title slide.

Add Text Annotations

I give a lot of photo slideshows, and I know how boring it can be to talk to multiple audiences about each slide. What we’ll do is add text annotations on some slides, then add narration later. Now you don’t have to be physically at a location to share a slideshow; instead, you can just send someone the movie version of it and they can view at their leisure.

Let’s start with the text. Our first slide is just a title slide, so I’ll add my name and the title “The Flowers of Spring”. Moving on to the second slide, I notice that the default slide “master” is a text title with bulleted items beneath it. That’s really much more than I want, so under Slide Layout on the right side of the Keynote window, I click Change Master and switch to Photo – Horizontal.

Now my image is a 4:3 photo on a 16:9 slide, so I can drag the corners of the picture out to make the photo fit the slide. If you normally take photos in a 16:9 aspect ratio, they’ll fit the slide format perfectly.

To edit the title of the slide, click the word “Title” under Appearance in the Slide Layout. That brings the Title text to the top of the image. Double-click the text to highlight it, then type your text over the placeholder. My second slide now looks something like this:

The second slide now fills the 16:9 slide background and has a subtle title on it.

In this image, notice that the photo “spills over” the size of the slide. The “greyed out” areas won’t be visible during your slideshow.

You can now go to the rest of your slides, adding text where you wish. It’s possible to add more text — like a slide number or body text — but I always find that it’s best to minimize the words to the bare minimum to describe the photo.

Add Transitions

To give your slideshow a truly professional look, add transitions between the slides.

For the first slide, I decided to use the “Fade Through Color” transition. To add a transition, click the slide to select it, then click the Animate button in the upper right corner of the Keynote window. Click “Add an Effect” and a pop-up menu with all of the available transitions appears. Once you’ve selected one, you can change various things like the duration of the transition, when the transition begins, whether or not the transition starts with a click or automatically, and so on.

Here’s an example of what the transition looks like for our first and second slides:

It’s a good idea to click the Preview button for each transition you set up so you can make sure that it fits with the theme of your slideshow. You can always click the “Change” button and try another transition if you don’t like how it looks.

Add a Narration or Soundtrack

To make a slideshow that can be viewed without your physical presence, you’ll want to add a narration. Perhaps the annotations you made on your slides tell the story and just some nice background music will suffice.

Adding a narration is simple: you just use Keynote’s built-in recording feature to record your voice, edit the recording (if necessary), and then add it to your slide.

Click the Media button on the Keynote toolbar (it looks like a small picture), then select Record Audio from the pop-up menu. Record the narration by clicking the red Record button, and speak. When you’re done, click the button again. You now have the option to listen to the recording and edit it by trimming the beginning or end.

If you’d rather add a music soundtrack, click the Media button and select Music. This opens your Music library, at which time you can select a song or songs to accompany your slideshow. For slideshows that are going to be for you or your family, it’s fine to use any song in the library. However, if your slideshow is for public viewing, you’ll need to be cognizant of music copyrights.

There are a number of websites that provide royalty-free music that can be used in videos and slideshows(with proper attribution), such as SoundImage and BenSound . Download the MP3 files you want to use, and remember where you have stored them.

Chances are good that you’ll want the music to play in the background during the entire slideshow rather than just on one slide. To do this, click the Document button at the far right of the toolbar, then click Audio. To add your soundtrack, drag the file to the Soundtrack box in the right sidebar (where it says “Add Audio Files”), and drop it.

From this dialog, you can add a soundtrack by dropping sound files, and also record a narration for the complete slideshow instead of just one slide.

See “Record Slideshow” and the “Record…” button in the screenshot above? If you’d like to record a narration for the complete slideshow, here’s where you do it. The narration is layered with the soundtrack so it and the music are heard at the same time.

Make a Self-Playing Slideshow

Remember, if you send the slideshow to another person they may not necessarily know how to get it running. That’s why it’s a good idea to make the slideshow self-playing.

To do this, click the Document tab under the Document toolbar button. Here you can set an automatic delay in transitions and builds, although it’s a much better idea to do this before recording your slideshow narration so everything is synchronized.

There are checkmarks for “Automatically Play Upon Open”, “Loop Slideshow” (which is good if your slideshow will be shown repeatedly on a kiosk), and “Restart show if idle for xx minutes”. These settings are useful if you wish to send a Keynote file to someone with the app and have it play automatically, but for even easier sharing, exporting the slideshow as a movie is preferable.

Export the Slideshow as a Movie

The ultimate in sharing your slideshow comes when you send a movie file that can just be opened and viewed. Let’s export the slideshow.

Select File > Export to > Movie from the menu bar. If you’ve already set up the slideshow as self-playing and have created a recording, then all you need to do is select a video resolution (1080p/HD or 720p/SD), select “Slideshow Recording”, and export the movie.

Haven’t created a recording? Select “Self Playing” instead, choose how long you want to see each slide, and then export the movie. Note that if your soundtrack is longer than the play time for your movie, it will end abruptly! It’s always a good idea to extend the time each slide is viewed so that the visual feast and soundtrack end simultaneously.

Here’s the sample video I’ve been creating for this article. Regardless of how the weather is where you live, or how you’re feeling cooped up in your home, be sure to take time to smell the roses!

The movie can be emailed, sent to another device through AirDrop, viewed on your Apple TV, or even uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo for sharing. Don’t forget, you can share a file or a full folder of videos using iCloud .

Not only is Keynote a great way for you to create presentations for work, but it’s also the best way to create photo slideshows — for free! If you have some spare time on your hands or want to keep the kids busy between online classes, making a Keynote photo slideshow of a treasured family get-together or vacation is fun and easy.

Stage Manager enables users to work with multiple overlapping windows in a single view, resize windows, tap to switch between apps, and more. With full external display support of up to 6K, iPad Pro users can also extend their workflow, as well as use the built-in camera on an external display for enhanced video conferencing. ChatGPT arriving on the Mac in new desktop app from OpenAI ahead of WWDC

Today at OpenAI’s spring update keynote , the company announced that ChatGPT would soon become more easily accessible thanks to a brand new desktop app launching on the Mac.

New Mac app makes ChatGPT more accessible for users

Apple and OpenAI were recently rumored to be striking a partnership ahead of WWDC. This partnership would bring ChatGPT to iOS 18 as a built-in, system-integrated chatbot option.

Ahead of that partnership, OpenAI has announced its own first-party ChatGPT app coming to the Mac. The app is designed to make ChatGPT more easily accessible and perpetually available for users. A very brief preview of the app was shown during the presentation, but more details were shared in a press release .

For both free and paid users, we’re also launching a new ChatGPT desktop app for macOS that is designed to integrate seamlessly into anything you’re doing on your computer. With a simple keyboard shortcut (Option + Space), you can instantly ask ChatGPT a question. You can also take and discuss screenshots directly in the app. You can now have voice conversations with ChatGPT directly from your computer, starting with Voice Mode that has been available in ChatGPT at launch, with GPT-4o’s new audio and video capabilities coming in the future. Whether you want to brainstorm a new idea for your company, prepare for an interview or have a topic you’d like to discuss, tap the headphone icon in the bottom right corner of the desktop app to start a voice conversation.

ChatGPT for Mac is rolling out today to Plus users, and will come to all free GPT users in the weeks ahead. A Windows app is also planned for later this year.

It’s always great to have a new first-party Mac app debut. I always prefer a native app experience over using a web app, and that will be no different with ChatGPT.

Previously, Mac users were limited to using ChatGPT via the web client or a third-party app. For almost a year OpenAI has offered an iPhone app for ChatGPT , but it was unknown whether the AI-powered service would ever receive a dedicated app for the Mac. It’s great to see that change today ahead of hopefully more OpenAI-related Apple news in the weeks ahead.

Apple’s Pen and Paper Launch

This week, we saw a virtual presentation from Apple, which featured the launch of new iPads and Apple Pencil. The headline belongs to the iPad Pro, bringing a new screen, improved chipset, and a thinner design:

"Available in silver and space black finishes, the new iPad Pro comes in two sizes: an expansive 13-inch model and a super-portable 11-inch model. Both sizes feature the world’s most advanced display — a new breakthrough Ultra Retina XDR display with state-of-the-art tandem OLED technology — providing a remarkable visual experience. "

The Smaller iPads Are Renewed

Apple also refreshed the iPad Air and the classic iPad during the event. The latter sees a price cut down to $349, while the former comes with a processor upgrade that offers it more power to challenge the Mac range with an M2 variant now available:

"In contrast, the new iPad Air comes with a slightly bigger screen than before, 11 inches, and adds a second screen size, 13 inches, which has never been seen before. The previous Air had the Apple M1 chip on board, and that’s been bumped up to M2—the same processor that powers the latest iMac."

Welcome To The M4

Sitting at the heart of the iPad Pro is Apple’s new M4 chipset. This is the first M4 device to be launched, and it’s notable that it is not debuting with the Mac range, even though the specifications feel more like a desk-bound than an in-hand device:

"The M4 uses second-gen 3nm technology, and its 10-core CPU is configured with four performance cores and six efficiency cores, making it 50 percent more powerful than the M2 inside the prior iPad Pro, according to Apple. The M4’s 10-core GPU also supports dynamic caching, mesh shading, and ray tracing, plus a new display engine with four times the rendering speed compared to the M2."

Is The New iPhone A Handful?

Meanwhile, one of the big iPhone 16 Pro Max changes has been discussed this week. With recent leaks suggesting the Pro Max is getting bigger, is the largest iPhone screen going to be difficult to hold?

"How big are your hands? Same size as yesterday, right? Some of the most recent leaks about the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro series have revealed that there could be noticeable size increases coming. According to the reliable Sonny Dickson on X a few days ago, it’s the iPhone 16 Pro Max which is going to be the grip-stretcher, thanks to its biggest-ever screen size, 6.9 inches, a noticeable increase from the current iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 6.7 inches."

The Foldable MacBook

How would you comfortably carry a 20-inch MacBook? According to analyst Jeff Pu, Apple’s supply chain is gearing up to ship such a device with a foldable screen that takes it closer to a 13-inch laptop… although we might have to wait a year:

"Apple is ramping up its work on foldable devices, according to a new investor note seen by 9to5Mac. The report, from Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, says that Apple will begin mass production of a 20.3-inch foldable device in late 2025, followed by a foldable iPhone in late 2026.

"If today’s report from Pu is to be believed, Apple has “accelerated” its work on foldable devices. The report says that there is “increasing visibility” of Apple’s foldable devices based on supply chain checks.

Investigating Backdoored iPhones

Dan Goodin is reporting the discovery of an iPhone Zero-Day Exploit for Ars Technica. This is notable both for the length of time it has been available and the process that is being used.

"Researchers on Wednesday presented intriguing new findings surrounding an attack that over four years backdoored dozens if not thousands of iPhones, many of which belonged to employees of Moscow-based security firm Kaspersky. Chief among the discoveries: the unknown attackers were able to achieve an unprecedented level of access by exploiting a vulnerability in an undocumented hardware feature that few if anyone outside of Apple and chip suppliers such as ARM Holdings knew of."

There’s a new utility in Final Cut Pro for the iPad that allows multiple cameras to be brought into the tablet Apple doesn’t call a tablet for live mixing… Say hello to Final Cut Camera, available for every camera that is called iPhone:

"Users can get a director's view of each camera in real time, and the settings can be adjusted from the Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 app. There are options for tweaking exposure, focus, white balance, ISO, shutter speed, and zoom to get the perfect shots. Preview clips are passed through to Final Cut Pro and then replaced with full-resolution files so users can quickly move from production to editing."

Edit video and audio in Keynote on iPad

After you add video or audio to a slide , you can set it to repeat in a loop, play continuously through multiple slides, or change its start timing in your presentation. You can also adjust the playback volume for audio.

Set video or audio looping and start timing

Tap the video or audio on the slide to select it.

To set when the video or audio starts playing on the slide, choose one of the following:

When you tap the slide: Turn on Start on Tap.

Automatically when the slide appears: Turn off Start on Tap.

Continuously through multiple slide transitions: Turn on Play Across Slides. Video and audio now play continuously even if you change their size and position between consecutive slides. For additional information and templates related to playing video and audio through slide transitions, see this Apple Support article .

Restart the video or audio file when a new slide appears: Turn off Play Across Slides.

To set media to repeat until you advance the slide, choose how you want it to play:

Play in a continuous loop: Tap Loop.

Play forward and then backward: Tap Loop Back and Forth.

Note: Recorded audio can’t loop back and forth.

Adjust audio playback volume

Tap to select the audio on the slide.

Drag the Volume slider.

To work with multiple audio objects at the same time, touch and hold one object, then tap the other objects with another finger.
