Call for Papers

The Hampton University’s School of Business is calling for research papers for “The Journal of Business and Finance Research (JBFR).” The Journal of Business and Finance Research is a refereed academic journal of business disciplines. The Journal targets the broad area of research in the fields of management, finance, accounting and other business related fields. The first issue of the Journal was published in the spring, of 2009. It is registered with the ISSN granting Library of Congress. The Journal is being considered for inclusion in the Cabell’s Directory of Publishing Opportunities, since fall of 2009.

The editorial mission of this journal is to publish empirical and theoretical manuscripts which advance the disciplines related to major business fields including management, accounting, marketing, economics, finance and other related disciplines. Priority is given to papers that will make a contribution to a board based audience, both in academic circles and the corporate, firm or agency arenas. All submitted articles will have to satisfy a double blind refereed review process. The acceptance rate for manuscripts is projected at about 25 to 30 percent of papers submitted at this time. We expect this percentage to decline over time with a goal of reaching approximately 10 percent. All papers will be initially reviewed by the Journal’s Associate Editors for compatibility. If approved for resubmission, authors may officially submit documents for publication. A check for $35.00 made to Editor, The Journal of Business and Finance should accompany each submission. We strive for a quick review process of approximately three months. Once all refereed comments are received and reviewed and revisions (if any) made, you will be informed about our publication decision.

Submissions to the JBFR are made via email at  [email protected] . When submitting paper via email, please indicate in the subject line “IBFR Submission.” A tracking number will be sent to you after initial processing. There is a 25-page limit on Journal articles, and files should not exceed 2 MB in size in Microsoft Word. We ask you to prepare manuscript in single space with one inch borders. Use a Times Romans 11 point font and do not indent new paragraphs. Skip one line with each new paragraph. Abstracts of 250 words or less should begin the document. A cover page with all participating faculty, and the lead faculty member should be attached along with biographical data. No mention of faculty names should be included in the body of the paper. Formulas, tables and figures should be centered and descriptive titles should indicate clearly in the materials presented on a standalone basis. References should not have hanging paragraphs.

Once a paper is accepted for publication, additional formatting may be made by the editorial staff. Once accepted for publication a fee of $100.00 is required. Please review the articles abstracts of this publication.

Title: Student advisement on courses sequencing in teaching-focused business-schools

Authors : Ardavan Asef-Vaziri

Addresses : Department of Systems and Operations Management, College of Business and Economics, California State University, Northridge, 18111 Nordhoff Street, Northridge, CA 91330-8245, USA

Abstract : Students in teaching-focused business-schools need a level of assistance and advisement broader and more profound than what is needed in R1&R2 schools. We investigate the informal interdependencies among marketing, finance, operation, and management core courses in these schools. By conducting hypothesis tests on a large dataset, we identify a flexible network showing the preferred sequencing of these courses to improve students' performance as measured by the course grade. Better performances in this context may also lead to higher retention-rates and lower time-to-degree. We recommend taking Finance or Finance and Management as the first course(s). Marketing should be the next course before or concurrent with Operations Management. Regarding the lower division courses, it is recommended to take Statistics before Economics and Accounting courses and Accounting before or concurrent with Economics. We also consider the significant role of a milestone course that links the lower division and core courses.

Keywords : core courses precedence; student success; time-to-degree; retention rate; lower division courses; state-funded teaching-focused business-schools; SFTFBSs.
